Aerobic Praise

I am not one to love Mondays, but I am fully embracing this one. (Monday - Attitude! Right Wising Up girls?) Last week was possibly the longest week of my life and I am happy to say hello to a new one. Curtis, Jackson and I all came down with the stomach bug. Not a blessing. On top of that, for the first time in my life I baked a loaf of bread. A loaf of bread that my dog grabbed off the counter and ate like it was a common Meaty Bone. This is a dog who eats athletic socks. He doesn't exactly have fine taste and my hot loaf of homemade bread was wasted on him in every way. At least I had two pieces before he got to it. Curtis didn't even get to see my loaf of bread, much less taste it. And believe me, I wanted him to tell me how great it was!

I just got an email from Jessica B. from North Carolina. Take a look at what she had to say:

After almost completing the Daniel Study I was led by the Spirit to "clean-up" my iPod playlists and remove the songs that were pure Babylon. Now I have an empty iPod and need suggestions of songs to add from my fellow siestas. I live where there is not a Christian radio station and I need help. I am trying to lose the last of my baby weight and need suggestions to help keep me moving.

Can you help a siesta out? What is one song you could suggest to Jessica? If your favorite has already been said, go with your next favorite!

Beth's suggestion is "Hallelujah Praise" (Hallelujah is the Highest Praise) by CeCe Winans. Mine is "Let God Arise" by Chris Tomlin. I might have to make an "Anything But A Siesta" playlist on my iPod!

He ATE your BREAD?! That is tragic. What a dog.

I did the same thing as you Jessica when I finished Daniel. I got rid of about 1GB of music!!!

I suggest Phil Joel's "Jealous" off of his dilberatePeople album. Actually, the whole CD is good.

I just finished making a CD of Aerobic Praise for our exercise class at church!! There are TONS of good ones. Anything by Hillsong Australia (One Day). My teenager has me liking Relient K (little rocky at first for this 40 something, but some profound words if you listen hard). Try running with your arms up in praise. Others will just think you have a side split! You go girl.

Jessica,
That's great! I think all of our iPods could use a spring cleaning from time to time. Here are some of my favorite songs on my "Workout and Worship" playlist:

* Talk About It (Nicole C. Mullen)
* Sweetly Broken (The Vineyard)
* In the Sanctuary (Kirk Franklin)
* You Don't Have to Hide (Joy Williams)
* Shackles (Mary Mary or Mandisa)
* The Blessing (John Waller)
* Deeper Still (Scott Krippayne)

Ok...I could go on and on, but that's a start. Can't wait to get new recommendations from everyone else.

Oh Amanda...I'm so sorry to hear about the bread! Hope you have some time to make another loaf. I'm sure it will be just as good as the first one. Just remember to keep it hidden from the dog!!

As far as songs for the ipod, I think I could give you a list a mile long. Anything from Mandisa's new CD True Beauty is great...especially "Only the World" and "Shackles"!

Our group is ready to start Session 7 of Daniel and it has been an incredible study so far. We can hardly wait for what is to come. I just have to thank Beth for challenging us to be deliberate about keeping ourselves from being endoctrinated by our Bablyon culture.

Blessings to you both today.

Anything by Nicole C. Mullen Rocks - beautiful voice, lyrics, and upbeat tempo keeps me moving - (and when I drive - my hands can't stop keeping beat on the steering wheel!) You go girl - I am so proud of you for leaving the other tunes to be forgotten - (Garbage in equals Garbage out) - I hope you find many songs to keep you on track! God Bless you for taking a stand!

One of my faves to listen to while running is Yahweh by U2. Some may not consider that to fall under this category and I want to be sensitive to that, but it's just a suggestion. Another one I like is "Meant to Live" by Switchfoot. I'll definitely be looking back at this post to see what others suggest so I may add to my playlist.

Wow...where to begin! So much great music out there. First, you should be able to access klove.com, a christian station that broadcasts online too. I also keep an eye on twenty the countdown, to see what the top christian hits of the week are. You can also check what are the most popular downloads in christian music too...maybe something you haven't heard.

Specifically though...

Switchfoot - This is your Life
multiple others too
Shane and Shane have a lot of great ones...
Mercy Reigned
We are Hungry

My fav now though has been Bethany Dillon. Amazing talent for such a young lady. She has two albums out. So many favorites...
The Way I See You
Great Big Mystery
Exodus
When You Love Someone
Hero
She has a lot of great slower pieces too...great for those more peaceful moments too.
Enjoy...you will be blessed as you feed your soul so deeply with the truth of words grounded in Him!

Any of the WOW dvds are great too...a lot of different artists...top hits of the year. :)

For an upbeat tempo suggestion, I have to tell you one of my favorites:

"You Are Good" by Israel Houghton and New Breed.

We've sang it at Living Proof Live events I've been too. (BTW Beth, you're praise team at the LPL events I've been too is absolutely fabulous! Travis and the team do an excellent job!) I have it on a CD a friend of mine let me borrow. I find it very difficult to not break out into a dance with this one! Whenever I hear this song, there's usually at least some part of my body moving even if it's just my feet (usually more than my feet though!) :)

Oh no, hope you are feeling better soon from the attack of the stomach bug. Sorry to hear about the bread too. I bet your house smelled wonderful though. My two goldens ate my dinner the other night too I saw it all in slow-mo and yelled no and stop with no luck.
Maybe our Siesta friend Jessica would like to listen to KLOVE.com's music online to get a feel for what she likes? I just checked there and they also have a list of top songs, lyrics, and artists and samples! I love After Your Heart by Phil Wickham and God With Us by Mercy Me and the iWorship CDs.

Way to remind us all that we need to live differently than the rest of the world in this Babylon!

I love these suggestions! One artist I haven't seen mentioned is Ayiesha Woods. I just saw her at a Revolve conference. Let me tell you, SHE is the reason God brought me there! This is a woman totally sold out to our LORD! If you can hear her song "Beauty" without dancing, I don't know what to say to you. Oh, and "Happy" will definitely put a pep in your step. Seriously, check out her music. http://www.myspace.com/ayieshawoods

Check out "Starfield" too. They are awesome!

There really are some great CDs like WOW and Absolute Worship,Christian Rock/Pop that are compilations of different artists.

For Christmas, I love "Not A Silent Night" by T.R.U.T.H.!

If you likea good beat, hip hop, I would suggest anything by The Cross Movement Hip Hop artists, like The Ambassador, etc. They are awesome and can really get you moving.

I have a hard time finding Christian music I like, actually, as I cam from a secular background and was a bit of a music snob as it was. But I really enjoy Keith Green, Oldie but truly Goodie, and a Canadian christian artist, Steve Bell, is amazing.

Also, if classic rock is your thing, Bob Dylan became a believer in the 70s and put out two amazing, truly rocking Christian albums, Saved and Slow Train Coming. Unfortunately, since then Bob seems to have walked away from the faith, although he has never denounced Christ so let's keep praying!

One thing you can do is go to Yahoo's Launchcast and under the radio station guide there is a christian section, with contemporary and christian rock lists. If you click on one of those and bring up the player you can fast forward through all the songs and actually listen quickly to ones that you can get your God groove on, make a list then download from whereever you download from, such as ITunes. I find more music that way from artists I dont really know, than I ever would anywhere else.

I am so glad you posted this question. I love christian music and I am always looking for new songs to listen to. Some of the ones I like that I don't see mentioned yet are Shane and Shane and the Glory Revealed cd, I like them because they take scripture verses and put them into song.

One of my new faves that I have never heard before is FFH's "Voice from Heaven" cd. The whole cd is sung from God's perspective, so I like to listen to it and think of God singing it straight to me, I also like the different sound they have.

I also highly recommend Ce Ce Winans as well, you can't help but move your feet to the "Halelujah is the highest praise", "Anybody wanna pray with me?", and "I pray, you pray, we pray" songs.

I love to run to Christian music of all types. For praise I like Hillsong, Travis, or sometimes I go "old school" with Petra Praise "I Will Call Upon the Lord."
For Christian Rap, LaCrae is great; I love "Breathe In Breathe Out". "The Slam" by Toby Mac is also motivating.
Christian Rock, Thousand Foot Krutch "Move" will really get ya goin'!
I also like the compilation CDs WOWs and for Christian Rock X2006, X2007.
Hope this helps!
Beth, I also have a variation on praise dancing that my girls (ages 6 and 4) came up with. It is called "Freeze Praise Dancing." It is best to have 3 participants as one can man the pause button on the CD player. The other two dance until the music is paused. Then they have to freeze into position until music has begun again. We have tons of fun praising and dancing together!
This is my first "official" contribution to the blog and I want y'all to know that I am really encouraged through it!
Thanks,
allyson

And, some just plain great songs are Knees to the Earth by Watermark, We are the Reason by Avalon (great remake of an old song and wonderful words), It is well with my Soul by 4Him, When God Ran by Phillips, Craig, and Dean, Held by Natalie Grant, God Bless the Broken Road by Geoff Moore, Dancing with the Angels by Monk and Neagle...okay, I could go on and on and on. Amazing how the Lord works in us. I did something similar as far as cleaning out. Where I work, our christian radio stations do not come in clear, so I use my computer to listen. Tune into www.wordfm.org. Great music. The Calvary Connection with Skip Heitzig comes on at 1pm. Another station www.wjtl.com, (Lancaster) again, great music. they have a play list on their website of the last 500 songs played, and that is how i learned of some of these great christian artist. God Bless,
Jeannie, Mechanicsburg, PA

Oh to list just one...that's hard! :)

Christ for the Nations...I love their music but Revelation Song is my favorite by them.

I also will say my all time favorite song is Nicole C. Mullin's Call on Jesus.

Another get up and go song is Can't Stop Talking by Darlene Zschech.

Good luck filling your iPod...there are some fantastic songs out there!! A suggestion...when you're looking up the songs already mentioned look and see what iTunes gives as "listeners also bought" to the right. You'll find more you can peruse that way too. *smile*

Hugs and Blessings!

Steven Curtis Chapman has some great blood-pumping numbers on his last few CDs.

My favorites:

From "Speechless"
"Dive," "Whatever," and "I Do Believe." (The last one is particularly great after the Believing God study.)

From "Declaration"
"Live Out Loud," "Jesus Is Life," "See the Glory," "Bring It On," and "Declaration of Dependence."

You also can't go wrong with the Newsboys greatest hits CD -- or their latest release. It has tons of techno-sounding rock and roll. Great workout music that does double duty.

Funny - I came here tonight to talk about spittle and aerobics. I teach a Christian aerobics class and as I was calling out songs tonight at class, I couldn't help but wonder if I had spittle on the sides of my mouth! :)

I was also going to suggest klove.com to check out songs. I know they broadcast in NC (I also live in NC north of Raleigh).

The aerobics class I teach is part of a ministry called Body & Soul Fitness. There might even be a class in your area because there are several all over the state of NC. Some of the great songs we are currently using or have used in our class are:

*Just showed Up for My Own Life - Sara Groves

* All for You - Big Daddy Weave

* Blessing - Matt Redman

* Revive Us - Sonic Praise

* Forever - David Crowder

* One Way - PCD

Lincoln Brewster and Paul Baloche also have great songs.

You will be motivated and lifted up with these songs on your iPod.

Mitzi, I don't think you're showing your age. I miss some of the oldies but goodies of the Christian faith. The Gaither's take me back to my early teens, but oh what a great reminder that God can and WILL make something beautiful of my mixed up, wrong choices, self-destructive life. I needed to be reminded of those words today. Something beautiful, something good. All my confusion, He understood. All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife. But He made something, beautiful of my life. A life surrendered to Christ. What a beautiful thing! Thank you Siesta.

An older but really fun CD is "Pray" by Rebecca St. James. Almost every song on that album is upbeat and the lyrics are great. Also, you can listen to Christian radio on the internet to get a better idea of what songs you might enjoy. I like www.klove.com.

Oh my! PTL for an obedient siesta!! I am continuing to clean up my TV schedule and am finding I am only mostly getting by with some TBN and TV land! Whew....the places the devil will try to creep in! Now on to music....Too many to list but at present I am all about "You are Holy" from Isaiah Chapter 6 ( Fall down on your face and worship song) and Hallelujah anyhow by Brooklyn Tab and I call Him Faithful by Donnie McClurkin. Have a great time finding new music because in it you will find new glimpses of Him!!!!

Oh...to choose, to choose! I love music so much! I feel, at times, as though music ministers to me just as wonderfully as a good sermon does! And, oh how good it is to praise Him, praise Him!
I would recommend the whole CD by Chris Tomlin, See The Morning. How Can I keep From Singing is especially meaningful to me as God used that song to minister to me through two very painful experiences in the last year. Also, I am really loving the whole CD by Rush of Fools, but especially the song titled "Undo". And "Your Name" by Phillips, Craig and Dean. I could go on and on, but I'll stop there. Enjoy praising His name!! Lisa

Here are a few I haven't seen mentioned yet --

O.C. Supertones "Hallelujah" is a must. I CANNOT stop dancing to that one, it gives me a workout even when one is not intended!

Days of Elijah is another that gets me moving.

Dennis Jernigan has some REALLY upbeat ones too -- how about "I Belong to Jesus", "Nobody Fills My Heart Like Jesus" and "Great is the Lord Almighty".

Matt Redman -- "Undignified"

Talley Trio -- "Built on the Rock"

How much fun to have an aerobic mix on your ipod... not being the aerobic sort, such a thing would never have occurred to me. :)

I can't add anything to the music playlist...I love all the suggestions so far.

However, for the bread thief and other "counter-culture" dogs, I suggest that you get a couple of the spring mouse traps, set them, place them gently upside down on your counter in front of a tastey treat. When your dog reaches up to grab the food the trap will snap and scare the dickens out of him/her. They won't be trying to steal food again for awhile. Do it again for a few times until you are sure that the stealing off the counter has ceased. Please be absolutely sure to place the trap upside down so that your precious pup does not get pinched. You can also put a piece of regular paper over it to disguise it and to add an extra measure of safety. And be careful when you set and place the traps to not get pinched yourself. I do not suggest this when tiny human fingers might be around to get pinched!

Love to All the Siestas,
Tammy in Montana

I love Casting Crowns and echo the rave reviews for their new CD. The first song, What This World Needs is pretty rockin'.

Another fave song of mine, though not one to work out to, is Carried to the Table by Leeland - fairly new band but amazing music. That song has me in tears almost every time I hear it.

Kutless is pretty upbeat, love their Strong Tower CD.

I also like Jars of Clay's Redemption Songs.

As for the lack of Christian radio... air1.com. I love their music selection.

Oh wait, you asked for just one... but I'm sorry, that's simply impossible. =)

I didn't see where anyone has suggested Israel Houghton or Martha Munizzi...great music to exercise to. They have some songs that are especially great if you have some "chains" to loose or some "walls" to tear down....
Blessings to you for your obedience to be a woman of integrity.

"Bring the Rain" by Mercy Me.

Also, if you log onto www.fm88.org (local Jacksonville Florida christian station) you can down load from itunes any song played in the last 7 days. Plus you can listen live to see what you might like before you download.
