Is Cake a Love Language?
I had such a fun birthday weekend. Friday night while Mom and Dad were at the taping, Curtis, Jackson and I went to a pumpkin patch. Jackson ran wild and wore us out beyond imagination.

Jackson did A LOT of running.

Like I said, A LOT of running.

He liked the scarecrow.

These were my pumpkin selections. Jackson was beginning to have a meltdown and the small pumpkin was about to be thrown.

Thank God for the wagons.

Must...escape...quickly!

On Saturday we headed over to the Life Today studios so that we could watch Mom from the greenroom, let her introduce Jackson to the audience, and meet some of our blog siestas who were there. It did not go as planned. We were running late and as soon as we walked in the door I took Jackson out to "meet" the audience. He is normally very outgoing and Mr. Smiley, but he got overwhelmed and started crying. He didn't speak to me for a few hours after that. By the time we left, the greenroom had been completely toddler-proofed. He was really in no state to hang around and visit, so we slipped out after the session. I did, however, get to meet Anita from Kansas on the way out!
Mom on the TV in the greenroom.

Jackson, mad at his mother, was very enthusiastic about his daddy and his pappaw.

Mom is talking to Jackson through the TV.

That evening my parents babysat Jackson while Curt took me on a date. We went to one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas - Ziziki's. It's a Greek restaurant down in the Knox-Henderson area and I highly recommend it. We had Ziziki bread, chicken and mushroom fettuccine (not very Greek, but very good), and the crowning glory - baklava ice cream cake. It was so yummy!

When we walked in the front door at home, I immediately discerned that baking had occurred. It smelled so amazing! I could not believe that my mom taught all day long, then went grocery shopping, and baked me a cake. Have I mentioned before that my favorite food is cake? That was an unfortunate byproduct of my wedding planning days. I did not hesitate to have cake twice in one night. I was told that Jackson got to lick one of the beaters and that it was the highlight of his life so far. I don't doubt it.
Let me tell you about my birthday cake. Mom bought icing and those little sugar decorations as well as color coordinating plates, cups, and napkins. She had grand visions of how it would look. Sadly, the icing did not cooperate. What was supposed to be "Happy Birthday Amanda" turned out to be "H B A." See for yourself. You really should enlarge it for the full effect. It got us all really tickled. The cake may have lacked a tiny bit in visual impact, but it had a flavor anointing. Oh my word, it was good! I think the memory of my birthday cake will stick with me forever.

Go ahead. You can laugh with us.

One last thing. Jackson did not quite get his granny's name down, but he did say Pappaw! He also tried, for the first time, to say/repeat "I love you." He was practicing the sound of my mom's name last night after she had gone, so I think we are close!

AJ - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! It looked like so much fun and that cake made me look hungry! I hope the Lord will just bless this year as you continue to pursue being a godly wife and mom. I'm in the trenches there with you! love, rachel
Happy birthday! What a great way to spend the day!
YES, cake is for sure a love language! At least its mine anyway! I'm pretty sure it holds the key to my heart!
I'm glad you had a great birthday weekend! I loved all the pictures...especially the pumpkin patch. I'm a big fan of those myself! Nothing says fall like a nice big pumpkin!
Happy Birthday! The pumpkin patch is one of our favorite things to do in the fall, last year when my son was 2 he ran me ragged there as well!
Happy Birthday Amanda. You celebrated in style. The 13th was my son John Hunter's first birthday. We celebrated with... a pumpkin party will be so fun, all for a boy who is turning 1! Congrats
That cake is so funny! God bless your Mom for trying! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
:)
Jen
Amanda, these pictures make me so homesick for my own children and grands who all live quite a distance away in other states. It surely makes the visit precious when we have opportunity to be together. I love how your pictures capture the love you all have for each other. Thanks for sharing these tender moments with us.
oh, your family makes me smile :)
i'm pretty sure your mom could take wonder woman any day...all that teaching and loving on that audience, and i know she was even more excited about baking that BEAUTIFUL (*grin*) cake.
amanda...that boy...those eyes...how in the world do you stand it????
OH...and i just read somewhere (or i made it up..but i'll let you choose) that calories don't count on your birthday, nor the days succeeding it until the last belated birthday wish or present has been spoken..so you just eat away...and let us know if you need anything sent in the mail with balloons or ribbon next week....
Cute cute pictures! I think the cake is darling! One of my favorite "surprises" on my b-day is when my mom sneaks in and bakes a cake for me. :) I definatly think birthday cake could very well be a love language!!
Yes, we can allow cake to be a love language especially since double doozie cookies speak at our home! Your cake was precious, as I looked at the picture, I thought HBA could stand for "His Blessed Amanda". Thanks for sharing all the pictures, it brought back memories of taking our girls to the pumpkins patch when they were Jackson's age. And I loved your pointy toed shoes!
For His Name
Happy birthday, Amanda!! What a blessing that you shared your celebration with all of us. Special thanks for sharing your photos from the pumpkin farm and all the fun that Jackson had that day! This blog is so much fun! May the Lord bless your sweet family and ministry.
HBA!! That is just hilarious. So glad you had a good birthday. And, Jackson's little outfit looks just precious!!
Happy Birthday Amanda!
I'm glad you had a great weekend and cake twice....YUMMY!!!
Happy Birthday, Amanda! I am new to blogging but have been reading along with the other siestas for months. Maybe I can get the hang of this! I so enjoy reading the entries and the other comments. It is wonderful to be able to communicate with ladies all over the country. Have a great day and God bless!
The cake is precious! You tell Betty Crocker that she did a mighty fine job. I will admit that it looked alot more yummy than the piece I sent you on facebook, although note that my cake had no calories and zero grams of fat.
Love the pics of Jackson! What a QT! Hope you had a great B-day, you young thing, you.
I am smiling ear to ear!! What a wonderful day for you Amanda. Happy B-day! You look beautiful and what a table of gifts!! Bless you today and I am blessed because of you everyday I visit the blogs!
Yes, cake is a love language. However, this summer when my husband volunteered to paint the living room--I decided that he was talking my love language!!
Thanks for the pictures.
To answer your question, yes. Cake is one of the sweetest love languages of them all.
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday Dear Amanda,
Happy Birthday to you!!!
This was the SWEETEST (yum, yum cake!! I love it too!!) post EVER in sooooo many ways!!!
It just had me SMILIING AND SMILING :) :)!!!!
This one really did my heart good!!
Great pictures and Happy Birthday Amanda! My husband's birthday's tomorrow. I don't think we're going to do anything. We're too broke.
How sweet!!! It looks like you had such a wonderful birthday.
Amanda may understand this, or I may come across as the biggest dork in the world -- lol! But when I was looking at the pictures and saw Beth in the monitor of the green room, I stared at it for moments and then started to bawl. Wait! Explanation! My mom and I are currently living 600 miles apart for the first time EVER (we've never been more than 10 minutes away from each other), and she was able to attend the taping this weekend. Something hit me, knowing that Beth was in the same room as my mom...okay, maybe I AM a bit of a dork! =)
So glad you got a good visit with your mama, AJ! And happy birthday!!!
Love the pics! Jackson is so cute! Ya'll are such a sweet family!
Happy Birthday Amanda!
Oh, and Mrs. Beth, I've tried to use that kind of icing too. It's not very easy to write with:)
God Bless,
Chelsea
I just wanted to say thanks! I don't exactly know why this post hit me so hard. I mean I laughed like crazy when I saw the "HBA" cake!! I guess it just seemed like getting an email from a friend who wanted to share birthday pictures! Thanks for letting us into your lives! Thanks for encouraging us and sharing your beautiful "everyday" moments with us....
Happy Birthday! Praying God's richest blessing on you!
This is all I have to say.... You look GREAT!!!!
Happy, Happy Birthday, Amanda! You look just beautiful, and I'm so glad you had the opportunity to enjoy your own family, your parents, AND a date with your man! Isn't that such a treat?
Cake is my favorite food, too! The more frosting, the better I always say! And what Mama Beth lacks in cake decorating skills she certainly makes up with in lovin', lovin', lovin'. Her words to you in the previous blog made me cry. How blessed you are to have a Mama that dotes on you so unabashedly!
Love you,
Kristen
I ADORE that cake! Mainly because it looks like many of our family birthday cakes.
Oh! I LOVE IT! Happy Birthday Amanda! I am so thankful you were born! Thanks for sharing your day with us! Sorry Beanie (sp?) wasn't there to enjoy your presents with you! I always think about that story everytime I see a birthday bag with tissue paper in it!
God Bless! Emmy : )
Well, beings a girl that works at Wallyworld...HBA(Which is my favorite dept because of all the colors lol)stands for Health and Beauty, so if thats what your cake says, then it stands for " Healthy and Beautiful":)
Thought ya appreciate that girlie:)
Be Blessed:)
Angie
AJ! Happy birthday girl! we love you so much! Your cake looked wonderful! Aj, i hope you had a wonderful birthday and that you continue to grow in christ daily! as i sit here and read your blog and i hear your mom talk about you i cant help but think how happy you make are heavanly father! your wonderful!
Amanda, if you ever come to Small Town, Indiana, I'll treat you to my favorite dessert here... Choclava Baklava with Baklava ice cream on the side. UN.BE.LIEV.A.BLE. I do believe I might need to get some as take-out tonight.
What were some of your favorite goodies in the gift bags?? :)
Happy Birthday!!! I love the "H B A" cake... Over the weekend we celebrated my daughter's eleventh birthday. She asked me to make her birthday cake and we were laughing ourselves silly during my attempt at writing on the cake with the icing. It's harder to do than it looks! Well, amen sista, cake is a love language with or without the writing!
Love, Jody
Thank you for sharing these last two blogs..........it allows us some fun escape to look in on such a wonderful family. Photos are always so much fun to take in and I just drool over that Jackson! Birthday greetings late and if you age as gracefully as your beautiful mother, the world will continue to smile and feel greatly blessed by knowing you! Hugs,Annette
sounds like a wonderful b-day weekend...and waht does it matter what the cake looks like when it TASTES delicious?? Sweet of her to bake it for you!! Dessert twice in one night- now THAT is a real b-day!! Glad you were lavished with the love of your family, what more could you ask for!!
oh my gosh! Pumpkin patches and two birthday cakes!! What fun. Our three boys have finally outgrown the yearly visit to the pumpkin patch/apple orchard where we took our family Christmas photo for ever so many years in a row... do I hear anyone sighing with me out there?
Brings back a lot of glorious memories. Happy Birthday!
OH my Word!!!
Happy Birthdy Amanda!
You guys are the cutest!!!! Well, Jackson is the cutest but you and your mom are a close second!
What a blessing - thanks for sharing it with us!
What a weekend! Happy Birthday Amanda! I am a daily reader first time poster. HaHaHa
God is so faithful. He delivered a powerful word this weekend. It was a blessing to attend the taping. I got to bring two women with me who are attending my Bible study. We had a blast! God is so much fun!! Have a great week!
Happy Birthday, Amanda! What a fun weekend and alot of memories for sure! From the pumpkin patch to the beautiful cake it was a special day. Thanks for sharing all the great pictures and especially those of you and Curt together. Give your Mom & Dad our best.
Birthday blessings!
Alright, I am from the north, and to put it lightly, we aren't always known for our genteel/passive nature...so what I want to know is WHAT WAS IN ALL OF THOSE BAGS??? Come on Siestas, you KNOW you all want to know...so you are welcome, my rude-self just asked for you!(WINK WINK!) But seriously.
1. Cake is MOST DEFINITELY a love language (at least one of mine!). AMEN.
2. The icing cracked me up. That is exactly something I'd do.
Oh yeah, and Bakalava ICE CREAM CAKE...I am a little jealous!
Also, the pictures are fun...LOVE HBA...totally something I would have done!
Happy Birthday! I think so too! My dh brought me a chocolate Cold Stone Creamery cake for my bday in July. So yes, I think cake is a good way to say "I love you", maybe not the healthiest way! LOL
AJ Happy Happy Birthday. It is so precious to be able to watch your little one growing up in this blog. Thanks for sharing, it brings back really good memories.
Grandma's and Pappaw's are the best, and your Birthday was sweeter having them around. Your mom is a trooper and very creative in the baking department. God bless and keep you,
In HIS Powerful Love,
Celeste
Dear Beth - let me bless you a little bit - my nine year old daughter was reading Amanda's post and saw the picture of you, Amanda and Jackson. I introduced her to each of you and she was amazed at how young you look. She couldn't get over the fact that you are Amanda's mom. She said you look like you are 27 and No wrinkles!! Now, if I had a tendancy towards jealousy she might be grounded right now because I've gotten no such comments like that from her about myself!!! You do look fabulous as well as Amanda - what a gorgeous birthday girl!!! Happy Birthday, Amanda!!
Praise God for giving you the strength for your taping - He is good and faithful!!
I'm glad we are adding cake to the love language list - I think my husband can speak that one!! Just kidding - he knows mine and speaks them very well.
God Bless You, Amanda and Beth!!
The Journey Continues~
Precious Amanda, happy going into your 29th year birthday! :)
It gets better and better especially with JESUS walking with us!
Your mother can sure share the WORD, LOVE HER FAMILY and write but cake decorating Ummmm...
JUST KIDDING!
I love you Siesta Beth!!!!!
Jackson is adorable and I look forward to hearing him say GRANNY I WANT MOORE CAKE BEATERS!!
What does he call Melissa?
Speaking of Melissa ~ When are we going to have her blog with us?
With "Heaven Bound" blessings,
Kim Safina ~ Cayucos
Happy Birthday Again Amanda!!! Thanks Thanks Thanks for the pictures! Beth's cake looks like the reason I tend to buy cakes. Although once, when my oldest daughter was into The Lord of the Rings, I tried to write something in Elvish on her cake. I'm thinkin' that maybe Beth could use that excuse for your cake. But WHAT A HEART! It's good to be loved!!
That is the most beautiful birthday cake I have ever seen!!!!
Your momma loves her Amanda so much! Seriously though, is she prayin for some high dose energy every day or what?! I would have been straight to the bed after all that she had done. She sets such a good example for us all.
We love ya'll. Keep on celebrating as long as you can!
Blessings Amanda!

Lori in Florida
MAN, I love your family!!!! In our circle it is called fRamily - family you would choose for friends and friends as close as family! Well, I never met y'all but I am sure you are fRamily!!
Becky Jo
I love that Beth didn't get all fancy and pretend she is any sort of pastry chef and just "did what she could..." Ha. It was great. I absolutely loved the H.B.A. Classic.
That is precious! I love the cake. Somehow, after I had my babies, I appreciate my Mommy so much more, especially when she bakes my birthday cake!!
Looks like a great weekend!
blessings,
stephanie
Happy B'day Amamda! Thanks for sharing your week-end with us! I pray much love and blessing to you and your family in the year ahead.
Love to all.
Happy Birthday, Amanda. My oldest daughter has her 24th birthday on 10/23. She has a 5-month old daughter to help her celebrate with this birthday. My husband and I both loved the pumpkin patch pictures, and the ones of the state fair a few weeks ago. I'm married to a farmer, and when he saw those pictures of Jackson at the petting Zoo,and the John Deere Tractor,he thought that was great. Your Mom and I will need to dish about how much fun being a Grandmother is. Take care, Love Kim
How fun to read your b-day story... I recently moved about 8 hours away for my first job after college working for General Mills (the inventors of Betty Crocker cake mixes). The funny part of the story is that just yesterday I was teasing my mother about her cake making ability (she always made them for us kids but was pretty bad at it.. oh well the love she had made the cake eatable). Your story warms my heart being so far from home and seeing your love for each other. May the Lord continue to bless YA'LL!
if that cake was anything like Beth's Texas Sheet Cake.... (that was SO yummy)
happy birthday!!!
p.s. I love your pictures - so vivid!
I especially like the one of Jackson under the "hay rides" sign. which camera do you use?
pumpkin orange is so blissful!!!!!!
Happy birthday, AJ
It sounds like a wonderful day filled with love and joy. Loved the pictures.
Happy, happy birthday! I love the "flavor anointing"--which, after all, is what's important. A beautiful cake that doesn't taste good doesn't do anyone a lick of good, now does it?
Glad you got to have a birthday date!
Joanne
I needed a good laugh, I smiled all the way through the pumkin patch pics, but when I got to the cake I laughed out loud. No offense intended,of course. If your cake had been a perfect bakery cake it sure wouldn't have shouted love the way that one did. What a precious picture of you all at the end. Happy Birthday!
I love the cake!!!
I just got back from Monday night Bible Study (session 5, I think of A Woman's Heart, new version). It is the one where you mom lays down on the floor overwhelmed because Jackson has just come into the world a few days before. The funny thing is that we all rejoice and celebrate when your family celebrates!! How neat that I now see you and your mom and Jackson a little over a year later.
Blessings again! You and your mom (with that cute little Jackson in the middle) are beautiful!!! Inside and out!!!
Now girl, according to the Sunday post you were 28, but according to that there cake - 10!!!!! LOL!!!
What a wonderful story you have shared with us . . . and most colorful! So glad your special weekend was just that - special!
Tomorrow is Tuesday - Yahoo-Jah!
I love that it says "HBA"-it makes me feel so much beeter about the cake I made for my sister that said "Happy B T" or the one she then made for my daughter (NOT out of revenge mind you, just out of uncooperative icing again!) that said "HB 6"! don't you love family???
Happy Birthday!
mine was on 10/1 and my friends mailed me chips-ahoy cookies.
now, chocolate chip cookies are DEFINITELY my love language, so i think cake can be yours!
All I can say is PRECIOUS!!!!! Happy Birthday!! Love, Shannon
Amanda, your photo makes me think of the song..."She's got her Father's eyes..."
What a fun Mom! What a fun cake! It made me smile for the sweetness of it.
I loved every minute spent on the set. Thanks for sharing behind the scenes shots!
Next time in San Antonio we shall meet, ok?
Praying for y'all's week!
Love,
Holly
How fun! ..."Had a flavor anointing" that is hysterical!
A good friend of mine will take a bite of something yummy and say
"now this is ministering to me... thank you Jesus!"
yeah!! I loved seeing this. You are so pretty Amanda and I am so glad you got to spend time with your parents. I do think cake would be a love language! I think the cake is so cute!!
Oh goodness, what a delightful weekend! Loved the pics, and I just love the way you write. :) I was tickled at the cake; looks like one of my own creations. And wow, you and your mom look a lot alike in that pic!
Happy birthday, Amanda! And yes, cake is ABSOLUTELY a love language! In fact, I'm pretty certain it was meant to be included in the book as the 6th love language but that it accidentally was edited out. Hee-hee. Glad you had such a great day!
Love in any language is CAKE! :) So glad your birthday was a happy one!
Oh! Thanks for sharing the photos. I feel like a family member.
Happy Birthday Amanda,
I loved the pictures of the family looks like God truly Blessed you this year with a wonderful birthday weekend. And Yes any cake is a Love Language. I am looking for to the 29th which is my Birthday (want say how many this will make) and the 6th in one of my best girlfriends, Melanie. Her husband Duke and my friend Troy are planning something special for us. I really hope they get the cake they promised. A Double Chocolate Layer cake. NOW THAT IS TRULY THE LOVE LANGUAGE. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND MANY MORE. Becky
omigoodness!! Amanda! such an awesome commentary & wonderful piccies!!! HAPPY , HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! oh and your hair looks ***FANTASTIC***!
maria cristina
Amanda! Just a quick note -- in the last picture (right below the awesome HBA cake!) I noticed the posters hanging on the wall and, me being italian, got tickled at seeing all the "adverts" written in my native language! :))
mc
Happy birthday AJ! Hope it was a great one! Sounds like a busy but fun day. I just loved those pics of the lil' man! They were just too precious for words!!
And that cake was classic!! Loved it! And Mama B, I have felt your pain with decorative icing! I have yet to decorate a cake with that stuff as easily as it says it should be! I think its a evil plot to make us all feel like goofballs...but I haven't figured out by whom yet! I will keep you posted! lol!
Thanks for letting us spend the day with you through your pictures!
Amanda,
I forgot to ask you...where did you get those jeans you wore on your date? They are adorable!
Love,
Kristen
Happy Birthday Amanda. My son Behr (yes, pronounced bear, and yes, we call him that..lol) is the same age almost to the day as Jackson. My baby was born on February 16, 2006. Ain't life grand with a little man running around everywhere. My son also loves to say his pa-pa's name, but is just stubborn enough not to make too much fuss about ta-ta (grandma). I wish your family an awesome and FUN holiday season.
Your sis in Christ,
Stephanie
It looks like so much stinkin' fun. :-) And man alive...looks like you got some good presents! Jackson looks equally as excited to be up so late and getting to eat cake. LOL. Happy Birthday, again! :-)
H.B.A., I love it!! You know I think cake is a love language! The highlight of my birthday is the cake, I took a picture of my b'day cake and put in on my blog. My eyes lit up to see all the pretty presents. I hate to wrap but I love to put things in bags with pretty tissue paper. Your mom did good!
I loved the picture of you and Curt. You looked beautiful.
Oh it's Bible study night, I will be praying for you Beth and all the sweet women attending. Have a wonderful Tuesday.
Love,
Patty
Happy Birthday! My husband baked his first cake ever at the insistance of our 4 yr old daughter who said her mama NEEDED a party. Mine had a butterfly that was on par with your HBA! It was even presented under the domed glass cake plate and served on my Russian china. It was one of the best parties ever. Blessings on you and your family sweet siesta! T.G.
I'm sorry, but I have to laugh with you on the cake decorating! I can see the vision... beautifully scripted letters... Well, all I can say is that it just would not be fair if Mrs. Beth was gifted at teaching AND cake decorating! Happy Birthday Amanda!
Why do I always smile or laugh when I view your pictures? It's MOORE LOVE!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.....that cake is the best! When I recouperating from surgery a while ago,I attempted to make a cake for my twins. I only had enough energy to write: HA instead of Happy Birthday, on it for decoration...to this day we all laugh about it.
That you for sharing your day with us. Great pictures!
Happy Birthday, Amanda. You are a real blessing!
Happy birthday Amanda! My birthday was last week and I totally agree that cake can be a love language (as well as chocolate and coffee!) You are a blessed woman!
It is so funny you posted this, just yesterday my hubbie made us chocolate chip cookies and that was my comment as I saw him and my son gear up in anticipation for them, "Could cookies be a love language?" In my house they are! My boys never look happier than when they are eating cookies :) I think there needs to be a book written or at least a revision to the 6 Love Languages...quality time, touch, acts of service, gifts, words and C&C (cookies and cake)!
breakingfree
Happy Birthday Siesta. I hope you know how special you are to us. We love and apreciate you, the hard work you do, and the sharing of your precious family.
May God continue to bless you, and may your relationship with Him grow beyond your wildest imaginations. love ya, Tina
May the Lord God Almighty bless you in a big way...happy birthday.
Annette
AJ, Happy Birthday, even though it is a little late. The pictures are fabulous. Keep 'em comin'!!!
Beth, You are just about the cutest grandmother I have ever seen. Aren't grandchildren the absolute icing on the cake!!! I love being a grandmother.
that cake is a crack up. you know sometimes we just got to break it down, get to the point, make it short and sweet so H B A....H I W G...T T Y L (hope it was great)
i'm not quite sure this will take off in bakeries around the world but it sure made me smile. was the flavor chocolate by chance?
~janel
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!! I celebrate for a whole week now that I have kids. It's too hard to not get interupted you know? So, all of my friends do this too now-it's not extravagant. You just spend each day of the birthday week by giving yourself something special-like a coffee you haven't had time for, or an hour at the library with a book, or a rented movie you've been wanting to get, some penny candy, etc..Thanks for reminding me to have a date with my husband too-you both looked so in love! Have a great birthday week-it's not to late! Love, SHELL
Tell us what is in all those packages!!!!
As I read this I am so deeply thankful for God's design of family. None of us had a perfect one, many of us struggle to obtain God's promises for our families as we raise our young 'uns and others have never seen a healthy one yet. God could have done it a thousand ways, but He created us to need each other and to be blessed by that special bond.
I celebrate with you Amanda, for you are blessed among women and you know that full well!
Thank you so much for letting us share in your special day!
Sandy
Amanda: Happy Birthday to you, you are a precious young woman! You have so much knowledge and discernment to be so young. You are a great writer, and I can't wait to see the great things that God has in store for your life and ministry. Thank you for being such a great Blog master.
Jackson is a beautiful little boy. Don't blink, he will be grown. Older ladies use to say that to me, and I would say, "okay, right."
Well, they were right! My baby boy turns 23 on the 22nd. I can remember taking him to the pumpkin patch, and I'm sure it was just last week.
I loved raising my boys - I raised two. And yes, they RUN everywhere they go! Both of them are loving and serving Jesus - one as a Pastor in full-time ministry!
Precious memories -
Love to you,
Georgia Jan
Romans 15:13
ok let me just say, you 2 looked great as you were headed out on your birthday date...but, where do the WHITE SNEAKERS come in on your husband's feet!?! THAT IS HILARIOUS!!! :) i'm from jerzy, we call them "sneakers" not tennis shoes. you both look great though.
and all those colorful birthday bags make my heart all excited.
so fun!
.dina from jerzy
Happy Birthday to you! My mom's business is cake decorating and catering for weddings, birthday, and such...you can so blame the icing difficulties on that wonderful Texas weather. It just doesn't cooperate well in humid states.
The cake is very cute though and even though I'm daughter to a great cake baker I would so have made this cake myself.
Are all those gift bags from your mom and dad? Wow. What an expression of love.
I love hearing about your family. Can we get an update on Miss Melissa.
AJ
Your pictures are precious (and the cake is also). Jackson looks like enjoyed it too. Anyway the visual impact of the presents make up for the cake.
I hope this is your best year yet.
Nancy
Oh My ! Is Jackson not the cutest ever ! My girls are now 26 and 23 and I wish I could step back in time and have them little again (just for a day) !
BTW Amanda....HAPPY BIRTHDAY !
From,
A TX Siesta !
Happy Birthday Amanda.. well it's late now but still! LOL Anyway, your special day turned out pretty special for your 'little man' too! I loved the pictures and I appreciate your sharing them with us. Love ya Siesta!
Donna
Hi Amanda,
I'll try this again because apparently it didn't go through the first time (you can edit this part out if you like). Happy Birthday! It seems we have birthdays close to each other. Mine is today. As part of my celebration, I intend on going to the Esther Bible study tonight. I am looking forward to it. But I'd like to share my own birthday cake celebration. My Mom made me a cake on Sunday and we had cake issues too. It was a beautiful cake adorned with festive candles that spelled out Happy Birthday. However, when we tried to light the candles they didn't want to stay on. Furthermore, they started melting...onto the cake. Sad. So, we decided to sing a quick "Happy Birthday" so that I could at least blow out a few candles. The cake was quite yummy which more than made up for the candles. Anyway, I hope you have a blessed and wonderful year ahead. Thanks for mediating the blog for us. You do a great job!
Blessings,
Jennifer
Awwwww! I'm looking at those gift bags and thinking about one of the stories your mom told in believing God and one of the dog's opening all the gift bags. I can't remember the whole story, but I remember the dog opening presents. Your mom & I bake the same!! Our cakes may not be the prettiest to behold but they are full of love! I'm glad you had such a special weekend and were able to spend sometime with your mom and dad.
WOW what a wonderful way to spend your birthday AJ~ You are one blessed lady! Thanks for the pictures, it was sure fun to see the pumpkin patch~ Jackson is growing like a weed! I also loved the pictures from the green room at Life Today! Thanks for the behind the scene peek! Beth, you didn't look sick at all! PTL! Beth, last night our small group did the Proverbs lesson on parenting, I don't think there was a dry eye in the room when it concluded! Thanks for being such a blessing and an encouragment to us each week, we love you!
Happy Birthday Amanda!
Thanks so much for sharing all the wonderful pictures. It is so fun to read about your little man and your birthday cake.
May Jesus bless you always,

Happy Birthday Amanda. The cake look yummy. Your mom is always talking about her cooking skills, I just have to tell you one year my mom baked a cake when we went to cut the cake she had baked the spoon in the middle of the cake, it was hilarious. Love the pictures of Jackson he is Soooo cute. You and your mom are such a BLESSING to us, thanks for sharing your life and those special moments with us. Were was Melissa?
Have a Blessed Day.
Cindi
I just love it when you guys have pictures for us to see. I'm glad you had a great birthday. I would say that cake is a love language. There is a store in Kernersville NC called Sweet Dreamery that makes a Wholelotachocalota cake. It is the best and is definately my love language. Thanks for sharing with us.
Sherrie
Happy Birthday Amanda! Thank you SO much for sharing these delightful photos with us! May I say, your hair is absolutely gorgeous.
That Jackson is honestly one of the most beautiful children I have ever laid eyes on! He's so cute I can hardly stand it! Those sweet eyes. What a blessing that punkin' must be...
I am absolutely HOWLING over the HBA cake! Reminds me of a cake I once made for my Dad, on which I wrote in icing: "Happy Birthday Dad! You're The Greatest". But, I ran out of room while writing the word "Greatest". So it looked like this:
Happy Birthday Dad!
You're The Great
est
He loved it anyway! If something is made with love, that is all that matters!
Now do tell: What was in the bags?!
Love,
Kristin in Austin
What kind of question is that? Of course cake is a love language! The five love languages are: Cake, chocolate, chips, dip, and donuts.
Don't you just LOVE how your birthday can continue on and on with this blog! Oh, if only each comment could come complete with another slice of cake! :o) May each day of your year be filled with the love you received on your special day and blessings beyond measure!
Happy Birthday, Amanda! You are a blessing to so many of us.
I was so tickled reading about Jackson in the pumpkin patch. My daughter is nearly the same age born Feb. 6th and we go this weekend to the pumpkin patch. When I saw Jackson about to have the melt down I couldn't help but think of what my husand says when our daughter gets upset. He says "She's pegged the fun meter." I'm glad you had a happy birthday and may the Lord continue to bless you.
Happy belated birthday, Amanda! I just love all the photos. Your Jackson is precious! Thank you for sharing. May God richly bless you all.
Happy Birthday Amanda!
What a precious family you have!
I am thankful that your mom felt so well during the tapings and so thankful you and Curt were able to go out and enjoy your birthday in such a special way.
Beth....the cake is perfect. I admire you making it after your long day and for making it such a special time for Amanda and Jackson. (also, so glad Keith could be there)
Lastly, yes, Amanda you look great...so tall and thin. You are beautiful inside and out.
I can't wait to see you all in San Antonio. I have our (me and my 25 yr. old daughter)flight & hotel reservations now and we are just wishing it was sooner.
I'm glad you had a good birthday.
Love,
Valerie
Happy Birthday, Amanda!! Glad your birthday was a hit.
PS - I love cake too:)
Happy Birthday, Amanda! Don't you just hold tight to the special days when a family's love seems to be spoken with exclamation points?!
Tell your mom not to feel bad about the cake. I tried icing writing on a chocolate cake for my daughter Zoe. I wasn't even going for the whole "Happy Birthday Zoe!" thing. I was just shooting for "Zoe". but all I managed was a great big "Z". (it didn't even start out big. It started out small, got smudged and morphed into a huge Z!)
The Z Cake looked like it could have been used on Sesame Street for the letter of the day episode. Except that it disappeared pretty quickly. Like your mom's cake, yummy!
I LOVE the cake! It made me laugh out loud and reminded me of my favorite cake adventure. One year I decided to bake and decorate a chocolate layer cake for a friend. I had worked on it all afternoon and was just finishing the last touches of icing. I had it balanced precariously close to the edge of the counter, when all of a sudden it tipped over and landed CAKE DOWN on the kitchen floor, splattering everywhere and breaking the plate. I looked at it for a second, and decided to laugh rather than cry. So I got out my camera, took a picture of the cake smushed on the floor, and sent the picture to my friend in a card. We still laugh about it!
Happy Belated Birthday! It looks like you had a blast! I was cracking up at the cake...in a good way! It totally reminded me of me and my mom's many baking attempts. Like the chunks of cake that usually end up in the icing or our "swimming" pecan pie. Yes...we cut into it and it was totally not cooked! It did not have the flavor annointing but we did get a good laugh.:)
Thanks for the tip on the restraunt! We will definitely have to try it out...esp for that cake!
I pray this next year is blessed with His rich presence, peace and continued grace for all of the responsibilities He has given you!
Happy belated birthday AJ! Thank you all so much for sharing with us the way that you do! Jackson is just precious!
Happy Birthday, Amanda!!
That HBA cake is just down right funny on so many levels...This has got to be the best thing ever...
And girl, the loot! I hope you got lots of cute stuff...
I must almost ask, are you amazingly tall or is that just the effects of those killer black boots you showed us not too long ago.?? :)
Sounds like someone messed with the frosting formula in the canned frosting aisle. Maybe something to do with no more trans fats? My mom tried to decorate cupcakes a few weeks ago and it was like working with something like Elmers glue, marshmellow fluff and who knows what else...stuck to the decorating tips and everything else!! Time to make it from scratch I think.
What a privilege for you to have your mom on your birthday! God is so good and I'm sure He takes great pleasure in your special family. May you be blessed!
I just have one, okay, two words:
Sock-monkey pajamas! Jackson is precious in his jammies and on Granny's hip!
p.s. did you get the Razorback outfit I sent to him? Hope it fit.
Happy, happy birthday Siesta!
Jan
Those pics are adorable! You and your mom are beautiful twins! HAPPY Belated BIRTHDAY!!!!! :)
Yes, of course cake is a love language...and chocolate and donuts!! Yummy! Glad you all enjoyed each other. Can't wait for Miss Beth's reaction when little Jackson says her name! God bless you all. Love in Christ, Kim in PA
That cake is hysterical --and has I love you written all over it! What a sweet mama you have.
Most definitely CAKE IS a love language and loudly screams endearments when there is LOTS of frosting!!! It was a joy to meet you. I was afraid I would impose but I just had to tell you how much I appreciate you. Meeting you was one of my priorities for the trip -next to "getting a WORD." You asked was I having fun, in my nervousness I failed to answer "Oh YEA!" One more thing, another blogger said the sweetest thing - from the text your Mom used in Chronicles she told her "we are her (Beth) plunder." Ask your mom about it. What she said was beautiful and the gal, Molly, was so precious.
I hope I get to see you again sometime. I will be in San Antonio next August (already have tics). Because of Him, your blog siesta.
Anita
Amanda,
Happy, happy birthday! Thank you so much for sharing such awesome pics and highlights of your special celebration weekend! (That cake picture was indeed a hoot!) Jackson is really starting to look like a little man! May God bless you in the coming year with much love, joy and happiness! = )
Your Kentucky Siesta, Tracy
Happy Birthday! I really do hope you know how much we all love you! This is one great community and you deserve {{{{{hugs}}}}} from us all for how you keep us all in touch! Thanks for all you do and for sharing the pictures. Loved the one of you, mom and Jackson! May God bless you richly in the coming year...
Amanda and Beth - thank you for treating us like your best friends. I feel so blessed to get to share in your family gatherings and see the precious pictures. It just makes me feel like one of your family, and I like that feeling. God speaks to me through this blog. Imagine that - God speaking through a blog! I think that probably makes Him smile :-)
Your bff,
Carol, Highlands, NC
Happy Birthdy Amanda!
That Jackson is too cute! They have a way of stealing your heart.
Thank you for sharing the pictures and your weekend with us.
Beth, your cake just goes to show you are real. Thank you
May I just ask that everyone pray for a very important meeting I have Thursday afternoon.Pray for an on time meeting, no time conflicts, no negative words, only positive, no destroyed friendship and that the Holy Spirit will be ever present and that there be a very positive outcome.
All of LPM and the people on this site remindes me of the ya ya Sisters or the movie steel magnolia. That is a good thing.

OH, how sweet! It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday.
Jackson is beautiful...I enjoy the pictures you post. Enjoy the age. It really does go by quickly!
Happy Birthday Amanda!!!!! It looks like quite a celebration!! HBA!! Sounds like a service club in high school! haha
I'll share with you that my daughter didn't speak to me for a week when I brought my son home. She was 18 months when he was born. When we came home, I would ask for a hug and she would hug everyone in the room except for me. It is amazing the grudges that can be held at such a young age! haha
Blessings to you for a fabulous year to come!!
Thank you for sharing your special times with us. Jackson is looking so grown-up!! You are so blessed. I wanna know what was in all those pretty tissue paper filled gift bags? Looks like you racked up, girl.
In christian love,
n
Oh my goodness, what a wonderful time! Sounds like you got eveything and then some for your birthday this year. Happy Birthday, Amanda. May you continue to feel God's hand upon your life!!
In Christ,
~Cheryl
You know what speaks of "love language" to me in that post is that Amanda's mom, who traveled to see them, let Amanda and her man go out for an evening alone. Nothing is needed more for a couple with a young childe than to spend some time alone doing grown-up things. Neither my mother nor my mother-in-law have ever done that for us when they have come to visit even though we've asked. "We've come to see YOU and the children, " they said. Lord, please let me follow Beth's example when I am a grandmother.
Jackson is adorable. What a fun day at pumpkin patch. Happy Birthday Amanda. Aren't birthdays better with little ones to help us celebrate!!
You are doing an amazing job of being a wife and mother and you are a great role model to all young women today. I am so thankful for you and for your example and ministry.
Happy Birthday!
LOVE the pumpkin patch photos! We are trying to go this weekend, but they just aren't the same when your kids are wearing tank tops and shorts! Oh well, Florida will have fall weather by Christmas, hopefully!
Brandi
Happy Birthday!
I love the Jackson's expression in the haybail pic...it's awsome. (It was the expression I had when I saw the cake...hee hee...just kidding).
I giggled when I saw the cake pic. I have fond memories of the best funny looking cakes made for me by my nieces...I knew their whole heart went into baking it. :)
Glad your weekend went well.
1) Of course cake is a love language!
2) The jeans and heels on the date night picture - GIRLFRIEND! Loving it!
3) And you two divas are having a beautimous hair day there on that last picture! :)
Happy (belated) bday. (It's taken me a while to post!)
Happy Birthday!!
I know it probably isn't right to covet your cake and the love your mom has for you but I am so there right now.
I have a very sick husband who is in the hospital - I am trying to work - care for kids and get ready to make a 7 hour trip to my husband's specialist to see what can be done.
My family hasn't even called me. My heart longs for people to love me, care for me, and to help me.
I read this blog often and just love the messages from you and Beth. It is refreshing and real.
Life is just so hard for me right now
Amanda,
Glad you had such a good birthday. It is really fun to see your pictures. I loved your birthday cake. Makes me want to bake one right now!
Happy Belated Birthday. Keep the celebrations going! May God continue to bless your family this coming year. In Jesus' Love Kathy Knoblock
i just found the lpm blog and i am so loving reading about the moore family. my mom, 4 sisters and i have done many of your bible studies and we feel like we "know" beth. it is so neat to read your blog and see your family pictures. amanda, your little boy is too cute! i am a 26 year old stay at home mom of 2 energetic boys and am loving every minute of it. anyway, just wanted to say "hi" and thank you for blogging!
Happy belated birthday, Amanda!
And thanks for sharing all the fun pics, too. I really loved the one of Pappaw & his grandson!
Well, I could still feel the love coming out of that cake your mom made. I just love stuff like that....
Blessings,

Happy Birthday Girlfriend! Yes, cake is a love language, I have the same one! The pictures are adorable, pumpkin patches are a good thing! I took my daughter to her first one and she walked up and picked up the first little pumpkin she saw and was happy as a clam and ready to go home! I made her pose for a few pictures first.
Beth and Amanda,
I am enjoying reading this blog! Since you both have such a heart for women and mothers I want to ask you to pray for a neighbor of mine. HEr name is Beth and we are in Tuscaloosa Alabama. She is 6 months pregnant and her 32 year old husband died in their front yard on Sunday evening. HE simply collapsed and paramedics were unable to get a pulse or heartbeat as she watched helplessly. They think it was a heart attack or a blood clot. She is in dire need of prayer right now. Please lift her up!
Love, Lindsey Smith
Happy Birthday Amanda!!! It looks like your Birthday was a blast. I can just taste that cake in my mouth now. There is nothing like the $.88 box of cake with that so fab icing you used to eat spoonsfuls of by themselves. The presentation is never all that, but like you said the taste is annointed.
Hope this is a awesome year for you.
Chelsie
U R Fabulouso! Luv those pics. Keep em comin'! Happy Birthday!
Cake is certainly a love language. The only thing that speaks louder to me is a tall Mocha Frapp. w/extra whipped cream! :D
Happy Birthday Amanda!!
~Blessings & Love
Happy Birthday Amanda,
I just love the way you dress Jackson - he is just all boy! And he looked so happy in the last picture between his two favorite women.
Amanda, what beautiful pictures of you, your hubby and handsome son, those look great, thanks for sharing those!!!
God Bless You and Happy B-Day!!!
I Love You Girl!
Happy Birthday. Love the candles on the cake...Love the pumpkin patch photos.
So Sweet! Birthday Blessings Big Time!
Oh and I wanted to tell you. We are studying A Womans Heart...God's Dwelling Place. When your mom put up the photo of Jackson as a newborn the crowd in our fellowship hall swoooooned.
I felt like I was "in the know" I pridefully said...he's about 19 months old now. As if I was privy to his actual birtday. hee hee
Hey Amanda and Beth,
Happy Birthday Amanda! (sorry-a bit late) Bless you, Jackson, and your husband!! Ya'll are just a precious family!
Beth, your description on when Amanda was born I recognized from your description of her birth when you were in Alabama at an LPM event. You were teaching about making a pact for impact with generations to come. I listened to that cd just yesterday:)
I have no children yet, but I can try to imagine what it would be like when you get to see and touch that baby for the first time- Looking forward to that:)
Katie G from Tennessee
AJ and Beth- Aren't families fun? After all, God created the concept!I'm still amazed how when one member lives a passionate walk with the Lord, it overflows into the lives of the whole family! And the rewards of that are like God giving us a daily "unbirthday" gift because He cherishes us sooo much. He celebrates us every day! God Bless, Christine
I am sure many would except cake as their love language!
Happy birthday sweet darlin Amanda! You and your family are just so precious! Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your life through pictures with us. Jackson is too cute! I can't believe that sweetheart ever has much of a meltdown.
And yes cake is definately a love language. I know I love it and it is my favorite word.
Love ya
Kristi B.
Awwww! What an awesome day!
I hope he says it soon! Grandma must be about beside herself waiting!!!
Happy Birthday again!
Sue
Happy Birthday...this is for Beth...I am a proud grandmother of a beautiful 19-month old girl named Hailey...before she was born, her mother asked me what I wanted her to call me...I had a hard time deciding on a name, but finally settled on "Grammy," and my husband wanted to be called "Pappaw." Hailey had no trouble saying Pappaw, but could not wrap her tongue around Grammy, so she started calling me "Gigi". I love it because she came up with it, and because it sounds younger than Grammy...
Your camera takes such great pics. What is it? Do you know how to snap, zoom and crop, etc.? Anyway, your boy and man are adorable. You look terrific, love your height! Does anybody else but me agree that Beth looks a little like Denise Jones of POG in that pic?
Sprinkles cupcakes and petit fours speak to me more than cake - but I know yours was yummy!
You must tell us what was in all of those bags - because I have a feeling I would love all of it!
Happy Birthday, sweet Amanda. I don't usually reply because I hardly get time to check in a read much less type my thoughts! But, I couldn't resist thanking God for the day you were born when your mom so eloquently told us about that special day. I remember that day with my own first-born and treasure it! Also, thought I'd throw in that my older son took forever to say his Grammy's name. He said everything else, it seemed, before he got that one out. My mom was so dissappointed since she lives down the street and is with him LOTS. I hope Jackson blesses your mom soon! And, the pumpkin patch looked like a blast. It is an annual tradition for us as well. So much fun to just let them run!
Hi. I was recently introduced to the blog! I've felt mentored by Beth for a few years now just by participating in her Bible studies. I so appreciate all the time and study that goes into EVERYTHING. I love your ministry, and I'm excited you all have a blog!
Amanda and Beth,
Check out this site.
All mothers can appreciate this video!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anSpBUxsgAU
Enjoy!
I wasn't sure if cake was a love language, but I recently celebrated my birthday, too!! My mom brought a pumpkin cake, and it was divine!!!! I wasn't so sure how it would taste, but the first bite just melted in my mouth. Of course the cream cheese frosting was an added bonus as well. I loved your pictures of your outing at the pumpkin patch. I recently took my girls to a corn maze, and they had a blast. I have highlights on my blog, www.mythreeprincesses.blogspot.com
One last thing, I want to thank you for recommending, "David 90 Days with a Heart Like His." I am thoroughly enjoying it. It helped get me back on track as well. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Happy Birthday and thank you for sharing your memories with us!
That is so sweet! Yes I do think Cake is a love language-for real! :)
Happy belated Birthday!
Much love,
Angela
PS-I had the same frosting malfunctions with my babies, birthday this past Sunday! I feel your pain. Then the other store bought cake I took to Chuck E Cheese had a lid malfunction causing a frosting malfunction. Oh well, it all tastes good anyway! :)
Amanda,
I remember when your Mom announced to all of us at LPL that she was going to be a grandmother, then when she showed us pictures of her new grandson at the LPL when he was born, boy that seems like just yesterday! How fun to see pictures of him growing up! Thank you so much for sharing him with all of us!!
You have much to celebrating for your birthday. What a fun cake your Mom presented to you, love was written all over it!!
Happy birthday!
love bunny
Happy Birthday week AJ! You and your hubby look so cute together, and the pics of Jackson are adorable..as always! :) I felt good when I saw your mom's cake because it looks like something I would have made. The presentation is not always that important as long as it tastes good!! Haha.
Y'all have a great weekend!
Love,
Missy in SC
What an awesome collection of photos. Happy Belated Birthday Amanda. I so enjoy reading about your life...My Mom and I have a precious relationship much like yours with your Mom. It warms my heart to read your entries about the two of you, Jackson, and your family.
Blessings and HUGS
Oh and I'm quite sure you can't get through all of these complies but if you do get a chance to stop by my gf's and my blog...we shared Pumpkin Patch photos from Christian Way Farm (KY). We had a BLAST and so did our little angels!
www.thecreativedivas.blogspot.com
Happy Birthday Amanda. What a precious post. Your little guy is adorable. God is so good. Blessings.
Oooooohhhh, I hope this gets updated today.
For all you Colorado (Denver area) Siesta's, CeCe Winans will be at I-25 and Orchard (Orchard Road Christian Center). It's FREE. WOO HOO
If Cake is NOT a love language, then I'm really bummed, cause I have to believe STARBUCKS coffee is and so are chocolate covered graham crackers! :-)
AJ: This is such a great blog. Thanks for letting us share in the joy of your family. Great pumpkins! I'm in MA and have never seen white pumpkins nor the squished kind.(Like someone sat on them). It is wonderful to be included in the family of siestas. Happy Birthday to you and your Mom (birthing day).
Happy Birthday!
This is off the subject here but does any one know the scripture that says the Lord will lift up our head? Its somewhere in Isaih but I can't find it?
Amanda Glad you had an blessed Birthday and you got to visit with your Parents. Jackson is so sweet and Yes they wear you out . I have four and I'm always tired. God Bless and Thanks for sharing your family with us.
Your Sister in Christ
Susan
Hi Beth,
Earlier this year I finished the Daniel to Doomsday study and I recall how you talked about an unfavorable experience concerning another woman of whom you wanted to help in regards to her lying about her past etc. You said that you made a "cut to the bone" comment about her indirectly in front of a group to which she was the only one who would have known you were speaking of her. You said that later you experienced spirtual & emotional trouble. If I may I would like to know a little more about that. I have been going through some strange spiritual attacks that I find most people can not relate with so I have been keeping this to myself. Please understand I am not into anything demonic and actually I seek God more since this has occured. I do have a gift of prophesy that i recently discovered however once again I am a Christian and only want to do God's will. I am really scared and do not have anyone to go to about this problem. Perhaps your experience can give me some comfort?
Thanks for listening!
Andrea
Amanda, birthday cake IS my favorite vegetable!! Glad you had a good one!
Happy Belated Birthday!
I should not have posted the thank you for the haystacks recipe, because now you'll be sick of me since I've posted twice today. I'll stop now. :-)
Quickly, I noticed in your b-day cake photos that we have the same breakfast room furniture (Bombay wrought-iron).
Since you have a little guy that sounds a lot like my little guys (very joyful and high-energy), you may want a tip that someone passed along to me to keep those white seats clean. I covered them with heavy gauge clear plastic. It comes on a large roll at Joanne's Fabrics. (Just remove bottom seat, cut square, fold over and staple with those staplers on steroids...forgot what those heavy duty staplers are called.) Very easy.
The covers are great to wipe clean spills and every other mess that comes with little boys. I know it's tacky. It took a while to get used to sitting on plastic. It pained me to do it, but I figured it's only for a few years and then we'll take them off. Just a friendly suggestion…
Warmly,
Susan
