Sunday Visitation
Okay, I have to chime in about the Sabbath. Sabbath naps have always been of utmost importance in the Moore home. Mom was known to put a note on her door during her naptime reminding us of this fact. I'm sure I will take up this practice when I have children old enough to read. I don't know about y'all, but I do not always wake up refreshed from my nap! More often than not, I need to have another quiet time to shake me out of the grumpies! But I usually eat a bowl of cereal in front of the TV until I snap out of it.
Yesterday I had a particularly inactive Sabbath since Jackson was sick during the night and he couldn't go to church. After getting up about five times in the wee hours, He and I slept until 10:30! I felt like I was in college again.
By the time evening rolled around, I needed to get outside and see daylight. Perhaps I should have taken my mom's words about enjoying a peaceful day to heart because our outing was a little more adventurous than we had planned.
Curtis, Jackson and I went for a leisurely stroll around the block - toddler in wagon, dog on leash, little plastic poop bag in back pocket because we're responsible like that. We saw our two-doors-down neighbors greeting a visitor at their front door. I thought this might be a good time to make eye contact, smile, and wave since we've never properly met them. Suddenly their little black dog came running out of the house and jumped all over Beckham. Beckham went crazy because he is all about having fun and making new BFF's. Curt stopped in his tracks so the owner's son could catch their little dog and take him or her inside. And then our 80 pound golden retriever, a.k.a. the abominable snowman, a.k.a. jug head, squirmed out of his collar and RAN INTO THEIR HOUSE. AND CHASED THE LITTLE DOG THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVING ROOM. AND PEOPLE FLED THE HOUSE BECAUSE THEY WERE SO AFRAID. Nice to meet you, neighbors! Don't mind us, we're just training our dog to do some Sunday afternoon visitation!

oh my gosh Amanda how funny! I would have been mortified!
Our neighbors in Alabama used to have a german shepard who had to come over and play with Roxy (our dog) she would roll under the fence and come to our back door and wait for Roxy to come out and play. If we went away and took Roxy, Tasha (g.shep) would have to come in our house to make sure we brought Roxy home! Dogs are so funny and make our life more fun! Next Sunday will be better!
I literally am lol! I'm sure you were mortified "being responsible like that" but Oh man...that is too funny! Sorry Jackson is not feeling good. I have a two year old that has never been a great sleeper. One of the toughest parts of mommyhood for me is how the rest of the world doesn't slow down and let you catch up when you have been up all night. Sabbath memories for sure!

haha! i laugh b/c we have a 96 lb golden retriever who has never met a stranger-and by met i mean jumped upon and covered with slobber and fur!! and he would totally have done the same thing--he has NO clue how big he is at ALL! if he were not absolutely adorable.... it's just that way with dogs and kiddos, ya know?? God knew to make 'em cute or they wouldn't last :)!
This is so funny Amanda ! You and your mom are so much alike.i love how you turn anything into glory for God and your enthusiasm for life.
i'll never think of sunday visitation the same again :)
HAHAHA!!! I have not laughed that hard all day!! Thanks for a "pick-me-up"!!! I would suggest leaving Beckham home when you take the neighbors an "I"m so sorry" basket!! Or MOVE! :)
glad i am not the only grumpy girl after a nap! :)
Amanda,
Isn't it funny just how often the "perfect moment" to talk to someone turns into a diaster! All you can do is laugh - gettin' upset won't help (and isn't any fun anyway). I'm sure your neighbors won't hold it against you, after all they have a dog too so they know what it's like!
And I so know what you mean about waking up in a fog. Sometimes that happens to me to. But a cold Coke and a show on HGTV usually pick me up!
Oh my goodness, that is funny! I remember a similar incident when I was dogsitting my future husband's dog. Gideon (a large 70 lb. boxer) saw the mailman at my front door. He burst out the screen door, managed to rip the latch hook off, and had the mailman cornered in my yard before I even had time to turn around! Of course, all Gideon wanted was a new playmate, but the mailman didn't quite see it that way. :)
Amen for Sabbath naps, by the way! Even if the kids don't all nap we still have Sabbath rest time. It's a must after a busy week. God sure knew what he was doing when he said to rest on the Sabbath. I need to be better about remembering that and not try to pack in too many things in my "free" afternoon.
HILARIOUS! Our cockapoo, Biggio likes to go roll in the neighbor's dog's POOP....he's had to be bathed every time he gets out....UGH....there's for some crazy dog postings!
I think God was just encouraging this introduction with a little help from Beckham!! lol!! I'm sure that was quite the site for everyone, especially Jackson. I hope he's feeling better by now-it's so hard to have a sick little man!
We'll pray for next Sunday to be a peaceful one, with health and jammies in the picture!!!
Good Grief, you are just like your mother! How funny! Thanks for the laugh!
Amanda,
Believe it or not the greatest friendships are often born out of wild first meetings. Hope your neighbors have a sense of humor!
Janis
This is so funny! I love it. I will be re-telling your story when my kids come home!!!
We have a HUGE golden retriever and I remember when we first moved into our neighborhood... Before we had our fence installed I watched in horror from our front windows as Preston tore out of the back yard and ran, FULL SPEED, right up to a woman who was walking down the sidewalk. I didn't know what he was trying to do, but before I could make a move she took off running!!! I have never seen a woman move that fast and I haven't seen her since! Oh boy, good thing she ran...she mignt have been licked to death!
Jody
That is so hillarious, Amanda. We have 3 cairne terriors and I can so see them doing that.
Beth,
So glad you had a leisurely Sun afternoon. Just had to tell you that I have been facilitating the Believing God study for 3 weeks now and after the first week my 4 year old son insisted on having a blue bracelet for himself. Well, we just now gave him one this morning and I asked him if he remembered what it meant and he said, "Believe Jesus"! Isn't that great!!! I am constantly amazed at how easily he accepts Jesus. How I pray he will always believe like he does now. Love you bunches.
Rachel in Columbus, MS
We even put a little note on our door for folks to let them know that we are not available to answer the door :)
Hee hee--still laughing about your silly dog, Beckham!
hee hee hee Great story!
I hope Jackson is ok now hes in my prays.I would have loved your dog.I have a 3 month old Lab(black)Zoey whom would love to play. to bad I am not close.I all so think soem times you can meet in ways & make best freinds. I myself cant take naps for I feel wrose. But I do rest or try to own Sun.Any of you are welcome in my home dogs & all.God bless love sister in Christ Vicky ps give Jackson a hug to to feel better from Miss Vicky.
Gotta love those goldens! The world is just a big playground for them. Don't feel too upset about what happened. I came home one day to find my neighbor's huskies in my house playing with our two dogs. They also jumped on our Christmas tree and knocked it over. I guess they were lonely so jumped over our back wall and came in through our doggie door.
I hope your little man is feeling better and you too.
What a hysterical way to meet your neighbors! Too, too funny! I don't imagine either of your families will ever forget THAT introduction!
OK, that's hilarious!! Dogs and kids. They're good for meeting the neighbors. But I don't know if that's exactly the best way to go about it. Too Funny.
oh my! I just laughed cherry pepsi out my nose! You must have been mortified... but you're laughing about it now, I hope?
Dear Amanda,
I loved your story, and I love ordinary, funny, real people. Thanks to your dog, you and your neighbors skipped the awkward, who are you, this is who we are staged and went right to crazy friends! Shalom,
I was laughing as I pictured this scene. Kids and pets-they teach us to love and how to humbled!!! Thanks for smile and laugh. In Jesus' Love Kathy Knoblock
Oh MY Amanda! Well, what are you going to do?! I guess it's nice to be "real" with our neighbors, right off, even if it *is* with the dog. I hope they don't hold it against you =) Hope the week has started off with Jackson feeling better and ya'll getting a lot more rest! love, rachel
Okay, so these two posts by you and your mama are my absolute favorite kinds of posts! I love the "normalness" of them and how they make me feel like ya'll are real people! Not that I thought you were aliens or anything, but you know what I mean...eating cereal in front of the tv to wake up is EXACTLY what I do because I do NOT wake up well either!
Thanks for sharing from your lives. It's often more inspiring than a sermon!
Oh, how funny!!! When we lived in NC, I'd turn the sprinkler on for my children and one of our neighbors dogs would jump the fence to come play in the water to! We celebrated our Lilly Belle's (Maltese) first birthday with a party for all her doggie friends - it was so much fun playing Pin-the-Tail on the Dog and Doggie, Doggie Where's Your Bone? We served canned dog food on a silver platter and gave out dog bones as favors! One little dog wore a dress to the party and had pig-tails! What fun! I can hardly wait to hear the rest of your story with your newly met(thank you Beckham) neighbors!
Amanda,
That is so funny, girl. I have 3 cairne terriors and I can so see them running in someone else's house. Note to self: tighten collars before walks!
Mrs. Beth
So glad you had a leisurely Sunday afternoon, those are the BEST.
I have to tell you about my 4 year old, Trevor. I started leading the Believing God class 3 weeks ago and made blue bracelets for the ladies. Well, he just had to have one, so daddy finally tied on one this morning. I asked Trevor what it meant and he said "believe Jesus"! (And I'm sure he meant present-active-participle believe!) Isn't that great?! So now I will ask him several times a day just to remind him. I am constantly amazed at how easily he believes in Jesus. I pray he will always have child-like faith. Thanks so much for sharing your faith stretching through believing God. Mine is sure stretching and so far it's a blast.
Rachel in Columbus, MS
Amanda,
This is so funny mostly because it didn't happen to me. Hope that baby boy is feeling better and mama and daddy don't catch whatever it was.
Kathy
oh Amanda!! I would have been so stinkin embarassed. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. And, the nap thing.. I can totally relate. I have to shake off my grumpies too.
Speaking of our precious canine babies. Could you all pray that we find a good home for our jack russell terrior. With our move to Texas coming up we can't take her with us because the seminaries housing doesn't allow pets. My husband and I got Belle after we had been married 6 months and have had her for the past 7 years. Our 2 year old little boy really loves her and this is so difficult for us. None of our family can take her and I really don't want to have to leave her at a shelter.
Me and my husband were watching her and our son play tonight and we both sat and cried our eyes out. This is going to be so hard.
THAT IS HILARIOUS!!
oh Amanda, seriously, that is so funny...
(so do you think you will be invited over for a BBQ with your neighbors??) :~)
I hope that cute little baby boy is feeling better!!
Too funny!! I love the fact that God gave us a sense of humor - hope your two-door-down neighbors have one!!!
I hope Jackson is feeling all better!!
Thanks for all you do with the blog site, Amanda. This is such a fun place to visit for encouragement and a good dose of laughin!!
God Bless You!
Kids and pets, they keep us humble!
kellie
PS: I didn't use to believe in naps. But after having children I converted. Nowadays, Sundays are the only day The Mister and I don't make our bed in the morning (meaning I only pull up the covers and don't bother to put the decorative pillows and stuff back on). This is an intentional move in anticipation of "the Sabbath nap". It doesn't happen every Sunday, but the bed is ready just in case!
Amanda,
That is just too funny! Well, now you've met your neighbors. And they won't forget who you are.
We have two golden retrievers and when I walk them and meet someone on the path, I can wave but I dare not say hello because our one dog thinks my voice is code for "Mom said I can jump all over you!"
Have a good week.
LOL That would have embarrassed me!
Beth,
your apples did't fall far from your tree. I love it!
Dedra@dfw
I cannot find the explanation of "siesta" on the blog. Help please!
I would have died! That is hilarious! I wish I could've been there to see your face; and the neighbor's face. Ha-ha! My little one is sick too. It's just that time of year. That is the only thing I dislike about this time of year...illnesses. Have a wonderful week!
Not that it matters much over a computer screen- I am truly roaring on the inside but I'm just too tired to give the belly laughs out loud. He gets an A+ for enthusiasm!
And then what happened?! I would have DIED! Oh, well! As my mama always says "THIS is what memories are made of!" Would you have remembered the nice Sunday walk if everything had gone perfectly? Dogs managing to get out of their collars seems to run in your family. I seem to remember a certain "Sunny" dog finding-her-way-out-of-her-collar-story before.
yes indeed funny!!!
O love dag tales and truely Sunday Visitaion will never be the same again!!!
Thank-you sooo much for sharing.TN/Vicki
That is so funny!
That would be me. Which is why I only walk my new 70 pound lab IN my own yard! I just can't take the stress!
What a lol moment! Hilarious. Beckham is quite the ice-breaker. = ) (Come to think of it...can I borrow him next time we start a new study?? I can't think of a better way to break in a new group of ladies!)
I know exactly what you mean about that nap fog! I've never understood how I could possibly wake up cranky after a perfectly blissful nap, but sounds like I'm not alone! = )
Better walk the opposite direction next Sunday...; )
Your Kentucky Siesta, Tracy
Thanks for the laugh Amanda!
Oh my goodness - that is the funniest dog story I've ever read! ha ha ha ha ha I can so see my dogs doing the same thing. Luckily we live out on 10 acres not in a subdivision, so no worries about our dogs running into the neighbor's house. I am still laughing!!
-laugh- That Sunday nap sounds fabulous! Unfortunately, I always intend to take a 20-minute nap, but it usually turns into an hour or so! Whoops. Y'all have a great week!
What a great story! And I could SO relate! I, too, wake from naps in a crabby fog and despite the best intensions of trying to snap out of it would likely take MY 80 lb. super friendly boisterous retriever for a walk only to find him creating some kind of unexpected chaos down the street!
It's just so great to know you experience "normal" crazy life like the rest of us!
I love it, love it, love it!!! We also have an 80lb golden retriever and I have soooo been in that position before! Those sweet goldens want nothing more than more friends and they just don't care how they have to get them!! I bet you wanted to just die of embarrassment...sounds like you made a grand introduction that your new neighbors will never forget! We finally gave up on a collar and got a harness...they can't wiggle out of that!
OH MY GOSH!! Amanda, I read this and I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants...seriously hahah!!! That is probably the funniest story I have ever heard in a long time!!! Thanks for sharing it and giving us all a good laugh!
Oh, the restful Sundays sound fabulous. I remember that my mom was very insistent when we were young that we were not to do ANYTHING on Sundays that resembled work. I think it is worth revisiting.
And thank you for the hysterically funny story. Our dogs are notorious for greeting our visitors in unorthodox ways, but I don't recall them going into someone else's house. That is falling-down funny!
Thank you for that note of hilarity!!! I needed that! Makes me chuckle to envision it....and I love dogs! YEA BECKHAM!
God bless, you sweet young siesta!
I just love it. Beckham was probably worried that you were not meeting all of the new neighbors. So why not just run them all out of the house for a big hello! I can see a block party in the future.
Amanda, I couldn't help but laugh out loud at this... Golden's really do believe the world is their playground and everybody is supposed to love them..!! I have a Golden also, and we could really tell some tales... In fact at my Bible studies, when your Mom is telling stories about going out with Beanie, everyone in the group turns and looks at me, and we are all laughing... They know how much I love my sweet babies... Hope Jackson is feeling better now.. and your neighbors... well... they will become great friends...!! Vicki
Oh Amanda I love it! I slapped my hand right to my forehead when I got to the end. Haven't we all been there? I hope that just sped along the introduction and now y'all are all BFF's!!! Too funny, thanks for sharing...hope Jackson feels better by now. Lisa
Very, very funny post! We have dog but I'll admit I was out-voted and she is the only other female in the house so I should take some condolence in that!
I have to tell you, God always prepares the way.
I am taking your mom's Bible Study on Daniel. As I listened her teach about what to do when we face a trial and how we can respond. I was determined to learn to NOT panic or be paralyzed and leave those old ways behind.
What I did not realize was how quickly God was going to call me for application!!
Friday, I found out I have a large growth on my ovary. I am a mommy to three little boys and was tempted to revert to my old ways: Panic and freeze!!! But God is bringing his Word to me through Beth's teaching several lessons ago.
I'm still praying for deliverance but I am NOT paralyzed. Praise God!
How funny! One Sunday a visitor came to our aunt's house who lives next door and our large black dog jumped in the car with her and started pulling out her Kleenex's one by one. The lady was scared to death and we were rolling on the ground laughing trying to get our dog out of her car. I don't think she ever visited our aunt's house again! Hang in there with the sick one. I know what it is like and am praying for you and him.
Lord bless, Crissy
Hi Amanda,
This was hilarious! But looking at it on the positive side, your neighbors will never, ever forget who you are and how they met you :o)
Praying Jackson is feeling better!
Adrienne
You all sure do know how to make a BIG first impression! :0 :) Curt may be able to use that as a sermon illustration someday...somehow...
But seriously, how can anyone be afraid of a golden?! We have a 4 yr old golden -- she may lick someone to death, or her wagging tail may knock over a toddler, but nothing serious....:)
I love a good afternoon nap and if I sleep too long I am grumpy when I wake up :)
I love the story of Beckham - We lived next door to a family that had a golden retriever and everytime he got out he ran right over to my son (who was maybe 15 months - 3yrs old during the time we lived there).
The dog would always knock my son down and lick him all over the place. Talk about getting a sticky slobbery bath! LOL!
Kim
I am glad Jackson is feeling better.
Our 4 legged furry children make life so fun. That is one introduction the neighborhood will remember for years.
Annette
Oh My Gosh!! I have a 100 lb lab and would have been mortified if he would've done something like that. He just tends to run out in the road and attack any dog that's walking by!! So needless to say, we've broken up a many of fights. On the good side, he has mellowed out quite a bit in his old age.
Hilarious!!!! Now that story will preach - you described it in such a way that I could SO see it!
Enjoy the cooler weather today Amanda - without the dog in tow!!!
Well, Amanda - THAT IS HILARIOUS!You certainly made an impression on your neighbors. I can just picture the whole scene in my mind.
That happened to us years ago with our "right across the street" neighbors - except it was with our Basset Hound, Beulah. The neighbor was unloading her groceries, and Beulah got in the woman's car and would NOT get out. All 48 pounds of her resisted being pulled out.
Add to that scenario that our 1st grade son (at that time - he is now a Pastor) told their daughter on the school bus just a few weeks before - that if she didn't have Jesus in her heart she was going to hell! That opened the door for some great ministry opportunities. :) For weeks they would not even LOOK up if they were outside and we came out of the house.
Amanda (her name!) did come to Christ in high school, and she and my son became friends. Praise God for the zeal of a little boy!
I pray Jackson feels better. Thank you for the awesome job you do with this blog. You are a great writer - it's in your DNA!
Love and Prayers,
Georgia Jan
That is tooo funny!! I would have died if that had been me!! Well now your neighbors will never forget you guys! You have left a mark in their minds forever.
Who knows? Could be the start of a lovely frienship!!
Hope you have a great week!!
Nikki
PS Hope Jackson feels better!!
Oh my...Amanda I laughed so hard I hard to use my inhaler!!! How hysterical...I had a dog Spunky that would get out from time to time and the more I chased him the bigger he thuoght the game was...so I had to out wit him and get in my car and drive around the neighborhood, he would see my car come running after me, I would open the door, let him jump into the back seat and we would go for a car ride. Oh and by the way sunday naps are the absolute BEST.
Be blessed today...
Oh the mortification ;) Well, it's the season for pumpkin pie - maybe one of those would enhance neighborly relations!
You have made a memory to be sure! Those neighbors will never forget you! How funny!!!!
Just when you think God doesn't have a sense of humor.......
How I can relate to embarrassing dog stories!! On a Wednesday evening walk with my golden retriever, a church was dismissing adjacent to our subdivision. My dog was attracted by the noise of the kids coming out, bolted across to check them out, and continued past the preacher at the door and into the sanctuary. After running after her, I apologized and he proceed to say, "That's okay, she just loves the Lord too!"
Thanks for sharing your funny and heartwarming stories!
I love this story. We had a golden that visited so regualarly with a neighbor that they let her in their house and gave her treats, which only reinforced her treks over there! She was an outside dog and we did not let her in our own house. Anyways I loved your story. So funny. Blessings.
OMG! That's hilarious....I would've died and crawled all the way back to the house. When you have dogs, I think becoming embarrassed comes with the package. I went to a neighbor's yard sale with my dog in tow (she had already done her business) thinking it'd be a stress free outing for the two of us. Wrong! As I was checking out a table of knickknacks, I heard snickering from a group of people behind me. Unbeknownst to me, Cubbie had a left a fresh 'present' for their yard sale. I was mortified!!!
Amanda
Your story was so funny. The things our children and pets can get us into when we least expect it. Sounds to me like a Sunday afternoon walk your family and neighbors will not forget any time soon.
I hope and pray Jackson feels better soon.
Becky
O! amanda! you do make me laugh! you and your mom are so much alike! its neat to see and hear!
That is so absolutely hilarious! Sounds like something our newest dog would do. So, are you visiting your new neighbors again, or is their house for sale again?
LOL..mortifying but hilarious now...right?
my 75 lb. border collie (part husky!) pulled me down the street bouncing on my bottom the other day chasing a cat---people do flee when they see the playful HUGE hunting dog coming...i am rolling over your Bechkham visiting the neighbors INSIDE their house story...hope your boy is better!
Amanda, That is awesome & when your loved dog passes on you will remember that day so vividly. My husband & I had a golden prior to kids who passed on last year. Jason stll laughs about the sunday afternoon he got loose in our subdivision and I had to tackle (on the pavement) as if I was taking out the quarterback going for a TD! I rolled the 100 pound dog to keep him from hitting the busy intersection and gave myself road rash as these knees hadn't seen in years! As the husband was at the other end of the street about to roll in the neighbors grass from laughing so hard.
That will go down as my favorite dog story ever! Thanks for the laugh.
Elizabeth, for an explanation on why we're "siesta's" see the Blog Archive for May 22, of this year.
Oh, that brings back another "bad dog visit" memory...our oldest was terrified of dogs for years because the neighbor's dogs rushed at her. Thank heavens she's over that now...but we had many tears about the "doggies that jumped on me."
Oh my goodness, I can completely relate. I have a close to 70lb. chocolate lab whom is 1 year old. She is quite a handful. I took her for a walk two weeks ago and she barked at a little boy getting off of the school bus. She didn't just bark, she acted like she was in mortal danger from this little youngster. Apparently, she doesn't like males in any shape or size. I was quite embarrassed. We still need to work on our walking skills.
Hilarious!! That cracks me up!
Aaaahahahahahaha!!!! :D :D :D
That is a great story. I just found your blog, i look forward to laughing out loud like I just did. Thanks for the good story. H
Oh my STARS!!!! That is hilarious...ROFLOL!
How did you finally get him wrangled? I am completely cracking up...:D
Oh my that is too funny although it probably wasn't at the time! I hope nothing was destroyed.
Hugs to you!
Amanda,
Sunday afternoon naps, oh yes! Isn't that a law somewhere?!
Beckham is my kind of dog...I have Lucy, a Redbone Hound (hound dog). Her name is Lucy because I am a huge I Love Lucy fan and like I Love Lucy my Lucy is always in trouble...she doesn't go looking for it..it finds her! I Love both Lucy's!!!
Hope Jackson is feeling better!
I just LOVE dogs! That is some funny stuff Amanda! Thanks for sharing....and yes, I wake up from naps with a little bit of the grumpies too. Always wondered why that is, but I keep on taking them most every Sunday cause they feel so good!!
Now that is funny!!! Did you hear about the bear that came into a couples house this week? Didn't mess anything up. It just ate the muffins on the table.
I can't believe how big Jackson is getting. Seems like you just had him and Beth was a gushing Grandma on the show.
By the way, are we ever going to get out of Romans?! ; )
Just kidding.
Yes, it's that Cate!
Amanda,
I think that the next time that you take the dog for a walk I would go the OTHER direction. So fun to hear your stories. I am feeling for you with a sick little one, I always pray that when there is a sickness going around that I get it and not ANY of my kids. Yuck!
Amanda that is hysterical. My husbanad and I have a similar story. We had just moved in to our new house, which we had lived in for two weeks, when I was out on our front porch and glanced over at our neighbors. Our new neighbor lady who I hadn't met yet was literally throwing our cat out their front door. I went over to apologize and she told me that HE HAD COME TO VISIT THEM EVERY NIGHT FOR THE PAST 4 NIGHTS...as in IN THEIR HOUSE!!! I was dying! I praise Jesus he keeps life interesting and move on!!
Oh Amanda that is so funny. It reminds me of a story about my golden retreiver Baxter. He also 'helped' us meet our neighbours by running in their backyard and putting his big, wet mouth in their pizza box when he was a puppy! They are the sweetest teddy bears but ruled by their scents of smell. God bless you for sharing. Hugs ML
Oh, that's too funny! So funny I had to read it to my husband and my children were listening and my 5-year-old daughter wanted to know what a golden retriever looks like (she absolutely loves dogs. We're working on getting her one.). My 8-year-old, Jeremiah, said, with a huge grin on his face, knowing he's being funny, "He golden retrieves things." I'm sorry. That probably isn't even funny to you but I have a weird sense of humor which I've obviously passed on.
Amanda, I love your funny stories. I really miss my golden, and the constant tennis balls. Doesn't everyone wake up from naps Grumpy?
Love the pics of Jackson too.
Thanks for the laughs.
I am so sorry that happened to you! That is the craziest story ever. Wow! Well, glad you got to MEET them! :)You know it is good for a good blog story!
Hope everyone is feeling well now.
Much love,
Angela
Amanda, you are so refreshing!! My heart has been so heavy today, and I needed to laugh! I am sure your neighbors are laughing about it now!
That is too funny!
I had to call my sister so she could tell me the details of something that happened at their church a year or so ago. Her husband is a pastor and was doing a funeral service. There had been a dog (a bigger dog) hanging around the church that day so my sister made sure all of the doors were closed throughout the church. The funeral had started and her husband was sitting up on the stage and that dog had gotten in a back door somewhere and walked right in front of the casket. My brother-in-law was trying to quietly get it to come to him so he could guide it out but it didn't want any part of him. The family thought it was funny and they did finally get the dog out.
I'm sure you and your neighbors will be laughing about this story and will never forget how you all "formally" met.
Change of subject, but I was wondering about Melissa and how she's doing? I haven't heard anything from her in a while and have had her on my mind a lot lately.
Have a good rest of the week. Hope Jackson is feeling all better!
Valerie
Ok too funny, after reading that you made my world sound somewhat normal (not sure if that should sound comforting or not) thanks for the chuckle - and of course for being responsible - I love it!
Oh my goodness! What a day! Our golden retriever smiles and scares everyone who doesn't look beyond the grin and teeth to the wagging tail and wagging back half! I hope it all got resolved!
And I hope Jackson is feeling better and you nap when he naps for a while!
mk
Best. Post. Ever.
Hillarious!!!! I can't even IMAGINE what must have gone through their minds. That's the funniest thing I've read all day.
Hysterical! Thank you SO much for posting Amanda!!!
Amen Beckham!
Hey why can't our canine friends help form relationships so we can later share the good news? Of course I have always been told not to run them over with the gospel. LOL.
Great story! Needed a laugh today.
Love to you all
Kristi B.
Too funny! I guess your neighbors won't forget you! I chased my tiny little dog all over the neighborhood yesterday. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm crazy because I'm yellin at the kids to stay in the yard and yellin at the dog to come back!
We have "mandatory naps" on sundays. We spend most of our day at church but take a few hours in the afternoon to nap. I sleep with one 3 yr old twin on the couch and my husband gets the other twin. The 2 "big kids" get put in their rooms for naps or threatened to lay in their beds watching a movie and not come out. I end up only sleeping 30 minutes because moms don't have time to nap that long. But it gets the kids to sleep or stay in their rooms while I fold laundry, etc. Last Sunday I READ a book. Wow. That never happens. I read a book just for me, not Dora or pooh. We pay for the naps when the kids don't want to go to bed sunday night and neither do I ! But its our new family tradition and it gives an excuse to snuggle with my girls. So take the excuse and snuggle with your little one!
I was reading back through some of the old blogs and just wondered how Melissa was doing?
Amanda how funny. You and your mom are such a blessing, you just lift me up. I thought your moms dog was Beckham??? I hope Jackson is feeling much better. Have a Blessed Day...

I was just sitting down to work on my New Testament research paper...thanks for getting me started with a great big laugh! JD
I am literally crying from laughing so hard!!! I firmly believe that if you have a kid or a dog, God has all he needs to keep you humble.
That is too funny for words!!! I can just imagine! A few years ago we had a rottweiler that was always looking for someone to play with. Most dogs and cats went the other way when she came around. She was a BIG girl. The vet had an office cat, he was sleeping by the door. Our girl put her head down to smell kitty, kitty looked up wide eyed, jumped, hissed, slapped and tried to flee for his life. As I got Drea out to the van, and came back in to pay the bill, White fur was still floating in the air. I never laughed so hard!!!! I don't think the kitty thought it so funny!! Karen
oh my amanda! now that's livin!
lol w/u-not @ u...
this reminds me when...the 1st time we (4kids&i) took our dogs 2 our bch house. at just about the end of our 2hr drive abby & lacey aka: hubba & tubba whined. assumed a potty break was in order- i stopped & all craziness broke loose. i had dogs runnin thru the street & yards w/kids chasing thru the rain yellin 4 em.
got the wet, muddy dogs & kids in the yukon. & of course we had the bunny with us too. well, his cage got tipped over in all the excitement. now not only did my yukon smell like a barn it looked like one...
"hello quiet, quaint beach town! we are here!"
the kids had quite the story for dad when we finally pulled in the
driveway.
memories we still laugh about!
thanks for being real!!!
lovin life in Him!

rainy day at the bch
sick kids on Sun too.
Funny story, Amanda! I was on the receiving end of a similar situation when we moved into our house two years ago. Our neighbors across the street were on vacation when we moved in and had another neighbor dogsitting for them. Apparently their dog was the BFF of the dog who used to live in our house and he made himself right at home when the movers came in with our stuff. We know the dog now, but still haven't met the neighbors!
amanda- we sent a card from our dog to our neighbors. we stamped his paw print inside. they laughed and it lightened up the friendship to be a great one.
So hilarious and so devastating!! Don't you hate when that happens. There you are, minding your own business (with hopes of making a good impression) and then..... WHAMMY! Now the 1st impression has been made. Surely they think you and the family are adventurous! :)
Blessings!
I am all about Sunday naps. Seriously. I think God makes us tired on purpose on Sundays just so we'll rest. :-)
I am laughing out loud, too! Sorry though; I can imagine how mortifying that would be! I also am a fan of the Sunday afternoon naps. And for the record, I've read that if your naps are under 30 minutes or over 2 hours, they're usually refreshing; anything in between and you're likely to awake more groggy than before.
Oh Amanda...I can't let this post pass without telling you about my "welcome to the neighborhood" story! We had a 90 lb. chocolate lab that was out being his usual, lovable retriever self with me and my daughter. He caught sight of a squirrel and off he went toward our neighbor's house in hot pursuit! However, the minute he hit their lawn, he turned his attention to their cat that was seated, innocently, INSIDE their bay window. In a beautiful, athletic hurdle, he cleared their front hedge and sailed THROUGH their window, sending their shreeking cat to an undisclosed location somewhere deep inside the house! I had never met these people, and they were apparently both at work, as I alone surveyed the crime-scene-like damage before me...glass and blood from the lacerated nose of my big lug covering the curtains and carpet. I hastily left notes on the back and front doors, pleading with them to please call me BEFORE they entered the living room and called the cops! Fortunately, they did and were very gracious about it, but after we paid for all the repairs, they did wonder aloud why we didn't just bring over a plate of brownies by way of an introduction, like normal people. Indeed! :o)
Like any good and proper Siesta, I just spit my water across the table, competely unprepared for that ending! Thanks for sharing, and helping us connect through our most embarrassing moments. :)
xoxo

Our dogs must be related! I loved this story and Beth's story about the dogs and the phone interview in the Daniel Bible study.
Oh, Amanda, I love it! We had a similar experience, but it was our son (who has Down syndrome and absolutely no inhibitions!) who went running through the neighbor's house. It really is an interesting way to meet the neighbors and share some joy!
