Memphis!

I was in college when the Living Proof Live events began. I was kind of in a bubble during those years and didn't quite grasp how the ministry was growing. One of the first events I attended was in Memphis in June of 2001. At that time I was newly engaged to Curtis and had just finished my junior year at Texas A&M. The event was in the Pyramid Arena and Kathy Troccoli was the special musical guest. Mom still remembers what she spoke about that weekend. The theme was "What if we let Him get to our hearts?" I could hardly wrap my mind around how many people came to hear my sweet little mama and I'm sure I was bug-eyed through the whole thing.

Melissa and I were both supposed to be there that weekend, but she never made it. For some reason she was going to have to leave later than us and she ended up getting stuck at the airport when Tropical Storm Allison stalled over our city. Seventy-thousand homes were flooded, 2,744 were destroyed, and 23 people died in the Greater Houston Area. It was a miracle that Melissa even got home from the airport that night. Mom and I were then stranded in Tennessee. We hitched a ride back to Nashville with the praise team and stayed with Travis and Angela for a couple of nights until we could get back home.

As you can see, it was a very memorable weekend!

Beth and the Living Proof Live team are thrilled to be heading back to Memphis on October 9-10, 2009. The event will be held at the FedEx Forum. You can get all the details here if you're interested in coming and having a memorable weekend of your own.

I've heard that lots of Siestas are attending, so I want to give y'all a chance to connect with each other beforehand (if you haven't already). LPM isn't planning an official Siesta meetup, but that doesn't need to stop you from meeting each other. So future Memphis Siestas, leave a comment on this post and let everyone know you'll be there!

funny how "what if we let Him get to our hearts?" right up through last night's class STILL has the power to bring us to our knees/make us fall down as dead/- your "sweetlittlemama" can twist us "everywhichwaybutloose" with that question! she is a living proof live event!

I am a member at First Southern Baptist of Yuma, CO. We are HUGE followers of Beth and love her deerly!! We were one of the sites that hosted Beth's simulcast. We are putting together a church cookbook as a fundraiser for our Africa mission's trip we are taking in 2010 and was wondering if it would be ok if we put Beth's Texan sheet cake recipe in our book? Please email me at mmms@ecsdd.org. Thank you so much! We love you, Beth!

i am jackie from platte city missouri, but i will be driving the 8 and a half hours to memphis! I have a brother who is a pastor in memphis and i will be staying with him and my sister in law laura. I would love to meet other Siesta's! i was at the 2001 event with laura. she is a very conservative pastor's wife and wears only dresses, ever. we somehow got parked in the wrong place at the pyramid and there was a fence between us and the building. she did not hesitate one bit to climb that tall chain link fence. what a hoot! nothing would have kept us from it! we still laugh about it! can't wait for Oct 9!!!

I will be there, driving 8 hours from Cincinnati Ohio Friday morning and leaving after Saturday's session to get back home in time for church on Sunday! I am so excited to see Beth live and in person! My 1st time hearing Beth was a from a video at our woman's conference at church in 2008, then I was at the simulcast last month, watching from a church in my area- closer to seeing her in person, but not close enough! NOW I am coming to Memphis with 2 other ladies from my church, we are so excited to be coming down to Tennessee! I can hardly wait!

I was at the event, too. Beth taught from 2 Corinthians 3:18. I recall a nurse in the audience made the connection between the fact that we were meeting in a pyramid and Beth was talking about our metamorphosis/change, the symbol of which is a triangle. Very cool moment. I also remember that Beth was very troubled by the fact that the audience was so white, considering the African American population of Memphis. She said she would not return unless there was a promise for more African Americans in the audience. I hope she sees that this time! Funny the things we remember...

Amanda, I too remember the weekend your Mom came to Memphis. She challenged us to make a difference in our city. My name is Wendy and I am the City Coordinator for the Memphis event next month.

We know that this is ordained from teh Lord hat your Mom will be with us this year in the city of Memphis. Earlier this year the Lord laid it on Priscilla Shirer's heart to come to Memphis though an event entitled Redemption 2009. Again we heard the message to come together as sister's in Christ. A great amount of time and effort went into the event with women of all races and cultures coming together for the week-end. Since that time prayer meetings have been being held all over the city of Memphis.

Now, it is time for your Mom to come. God is up to big things in Memphis. While you may hear of the many shootings and murders and crime, I am here to tell you churches are reaching out their hands to each other as never before. We are taking hold of each other regardless of race, church location or culture. Be assured we have work to do but much is being done.

We have been praying for this event for the last year as we have prepared for this weekend with your Mom, but all volunteers have been praying for this for the last 30 days through a prayer guide.

I invite you sista's, to come to Memphis and join us as we ask God to change us and touch us through our time with the Lord.

We are over 13,000 strong so far. Praise God for the things he is doing. If I can help any of you with questions about the Memphis event, or our area, please email me at:

gogirlwdg@aol.com

We are going to celebrate God on the week-end. "We have our eye on the goal where God is beckoning us onward to Jesus. We're off and running and not turning back." Phil 3:12-14 The Message

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

As previously mentioned on the
"Random and Sublime" post,
my husband and I will be there. And we are so excited to hear your "sweet little mama" and to be led into worship by some of our favorite peeps on the planet. We are also WAY excited to see old friends TOGETHER and go to a spiritually uplifting event TOGETHER (that doesn't specifically pertain to youth ministry). That sort of combination is few and far between for us, and we can't wait! I think it will be one of my favorite birthday gifts of all time.

Believe it or not I am a little bit sad that we are leaving our 3 and a half year old daughter with grandparents for the sake of convenience... not because we have problems "leaving" her by any means, just because a part of me wishes that she could be in on the family joy of this occasion. But I think that Friday night will be a little past her bedtime:-) Although I'm sure she would have no problem rockin' out to TC and the team :) haha.

I remember Beth telling a story in another bible study about that. I think it was John the Beloved Disciple,my first Beth Moore Bible study.I remember her talking about the flood and having to go back to Angela's and you were with her. Is that when Angela made pancakes for you all and your mom thought they were going to be like cardboard but they were delicious. There was a little guy in the story at the time I can't remember his name but he called your mom Beth Moore like that was her first name. JACK she called him Jack I just remembered. She told how she was teasing him something about how pancakes were gonna change his life...and he said how are pancakes gonna my life and she just kept telling him that. Then finally he said something like "now a banana will change your life" and after she had eaten and left the room he said Beth Moore makes me hungry. I can still hear her tell that story it made me laugh out loud then and it's makin me laugh now.

Amanda,
Like a couple of siestas mentioned, I too was there at that event. My first to ever hear your mom. There are soooo many wonders/questions from that event that still remain with me. The greatest being the burden placed on your mother before she came and the intensity of Friday night. Your memory of the tropical storm over Houston and Melissa not being able to attend may explain some.

But I always wondered when your mother "saw Memphis as a heart with veins and arteries...beating"...I wondered if God had placed that vision there because of what was going to happen on September 11th of 2001. Our country and the world did have a heart change.
Yes, Memphis was a memorable event and I can say I have "let go of many branches through these past 8 years and moved with God from 'glory to glory'".
Changed because He was, He is, and He is to come!
Much love to you all.

I wanted so much to be with you in Memphis .... but God had other plans for me. He has directed my path toward a Medical Mission Trip to El Salvador November 5th-13th and I don't have enough vacation time to do both. I had never planned or ever intended to plan a mission trip of any kind... but God has been doing a radical work in my life over the past 7 months... and when I surrendered it was 100%...which as we know can put us in places and situations we never would have expected to be.

I was part of the simulcast a couple of weeks ago... and that was such a annointed and powerful message for me. Thank you again to the LPL teams that worked so hard to make this happen.
I know that the Lord has something special planned for me and I am excited to find out what it is. To all those reading this...please say a prayer that our trip is safe and prosperous for His kingdom.

Beth, Amananda, and Melissa... thank you for all you do to lift us up...to lift up the kingdom...
You make us such a part of your family...there are times I feel like I could pick up the phone and give you a call or send you at text about something special that has happened. Thanks you for your openness. Thanks for your willingness to serve our Lord!!!
Luv Ya'll...

PS...I will let you know how my mission trip goes....

Oh, and I also remember Beth making all of us take off one earring so she wouldn't be the only one wearing one earring. Her dangly earrings kept bumping up against the headset mic and causing loud noises. She took off her earring so it would not distract and then insisted (in the way only Beth can) that all 14,000 of us also take off one earring. Hilarious!!!

We've done every one of Beth's Bible Studies and are looking forward to hearing her live. We are waiting to hear from God through His faithful messenger.

Can I interrupt this post to apologize for clumsily interrupting the Scripture memory post to make my blog deput (first time ever contribute on a blog -anywhere). As I read thru the comments like a kid to see if my post actually showed up, about 75 posts into it I saw a pattern...scripture, name, city... and began to sweat and pray that I somehow pushed a wrong button and mine wouldn't show up like a sore thumb slap dab in the middle of this sacred pattern where everyone else was obeying the rule. Unfortunately it was there and immediately Amanda's song started humming in my ears..."one of these things is not like the other..." I'm just glad I didn't know how to attach my face to it all:) So sorry -tho I am known to have a knack for faux pas I'll try to do better. I love this blog -Ya'll have a blast in Memphis.

ON my way! Then to Nashville for vacation.

We are staying at a Marriott Residence Inn downtown. Let's all meet somewhere.....Spaghetti Warehouse on Firday for dinner???

While there if you are not familiar with the area, Graceland, a Rock n Roll Musuem, Cotton Museum, Sun Studio's, Zoo, Pink Palace Museum, Dixon Gallery, endless.....

And yes ladies, Beale St, you can go to Beale ST and be a Christian. It's a party scene but they also have Gospel Music Groups playing as well. Dont' forget A Schwabs, a three story old fashion dry good store.

I was in Memphis in 2001. I belive she also talked about change and we were at the Pyramid and the symbol means change.

Will be there again with one of my sisters (still working on our other sister), my 2 daughters-in-law, and my sister-in-law who is here all the way from Cameroon, West Africa. She and my brother are missionaries there and are home on furlough. It will be a great girl weekend for our family and I'm looking forward to hugging some siestas necks as well. Honey, I'll be there with bells on! I'm so excited! I was there on the event that you were referring to, Amanda, and what an event it was! I, too, have my own memory of that weekend. My birthday is on that Monday (October 6th)... and so a ticket to Memphis for the next coming event is the gift given to me by my sweet husband.

Let me tell you of another time that I was priviledged to have been served the manna of God's word from your mother. I had just spent a year with the 5th and 6th graders on Wednesday nights. We spent that year in the book of Genesis... and before we were finished I fell in love with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph!!! I felt ownership of them! I felt a kinship of the closest kind!!! It was right after we had finished that I found out your mom was filming the session for The Patriarch series. I hate to admit it, but my first reaction was jealousy!!! I was GREEN from head to foot. I wondered how she could talk about them with me being invited???

So...

I begged my darling man and he relented. I drove to Baltimore, Maryland from Alabama. Sat in on each session each day EXCEPT for those filmed on Thursday. For, you see, I do payroll on Thursdays. I've been doing payroll for my daddy since I was 16.... I'm much older than that by now. I actually left my vehicle in Baltimore, caught a flight to Montgomery, Alabama, early Thursday morning. Rented a vehicle to drive (in my own town!!!) Did payroll as fast as I could. Drove back to the airport. And got back in the nick of time to catch a return flight back to Maryland on Thursday night.

Just in guess y'all ever wondered..... I just thought you might need to know what extremes we girls sometimes go to to hear the wonder of God in His Word!

Like I said, I'm so super excited!!

I live in Southaven, MS which is just across the state line from Memphis. Saying I'm excited just doesn't describe what I am feeling!! A few years back I had the priviledge of hearing Beth in Little Rock. What an exciting weekend!! I have my wristband and CAN'T WAIT to hear what God is going to say through her here.

I was at the Pyramid in Memphis in June 2001. The place was packed. The message was one calling for change in Memphis. God is on the move and lives are changing here in the Mid South.

Redemption 2009 was a huge success. Everyone came with the hope and prayer to let God be the God of "this city".

God has been astouding by the lives that have been redeemed. About a year-and-a-half ago, a woman prayed to recieve Christ at my church. The woman had been born and raised in Afghanistan. Her entire family and all she had ever known were of the Muslim faith. Praise Him nothing is too difficult for our God.

About 50 women from my church will be attending. Can't wait.

I remember your mom telling us that she had never prepared for a weekend like she had prepared to come to Memphis. "Something big is coming." I have often wondered was He trying to prepare us for September of that year?

God is going to change lives. It is going to be a blast! Can't wait to be there.

See you next month!

Blesings,
Mary

I bought 4 tickets a year ago when my 3 closest friends were all experiencing the darkest days of their lives to date. One moved to Nashville, one has gone back to work full-time to help her family financially, and the third (R) has had a bi-lateral mastectomy, 2 rounds of chemo, radiation and now has 4 treatments of herceptin left in her fight against a very aggressive form of breast cancer. She is bringing one of her new friends (B - also fighting breast cancer) with us to the Memphis event. This is the first thing R has been excited about in 2 years! Cannot wait to experience the weekend with friends who have been in desparate places and are hanging on to the Light. I know the Lord will have something profound for us in Memphis!!

I was there in 2001! I grew up in the Memphis area so I left my sweet pastor hubby in south MS with our 4 daughters ages 6-16 and traveled home to my parents to attend the event. My first of many LPL events. It has always been my DREAM to attend an LPL event with all 4 of my daughters and God being so gracious and good, has provided for that to happen in the place where it all began for me. I will be attending the event in Memphis with my beautiful girls ages 15-25. My two oldest now married to pastors, my college girl and my high-school youngest. What a mother-daughter weekend it will be worshiping and sitting at the feet of Jesus. Praise His name!

Unfortunately my Bible Study group won't be able to make it. But, by jove, the next time y'all are in the ATL, I'm gonna organize a trip for us!

Our little group started when Beth facilitated "No other God's last summer. In fact, we won recognition for our "Rapping Scripture Video". And, recognition was just like first place to us, except for without the prizes :)

Since then, we've done Daniel, and Stepping Up, and now we're doing Esther. I've just now created a blog just for us.

I'm sure my little group would be tickled with a comment from one the LPM girls if one of you should find yourself with a spare minute.

We are so thankful for your ministry!

What a wonderful time to see churches all around our community participate with one goal, in unity, learning, praising and loving the Lord from one place. I am so grateful for technology that can do this. It really makes me want to travel and be in every city. I want to work on getting to one and take my two grand daughters for a time away. How fun would that be?

Afterward went to emergency med clinic for pain shot. Soon thereafter: root canal! It was worth it all!!! I also attended the event at Bellevue & can I say that the event maxed out their building, thus the Pyramid event. A large group from our church in Bartlett is attending. We have about 60 women taking the Daniel Bible Study this fall, and many of them will be there! Thank you for coming back to Memphis.

I wanted to share why I’m so excited about this weekend in Memphis. You see, that prior Monday (Oct 5th) will be my very 1st day to go in and begin teaching God’s Word on Monday nights at a Maximum Security Women's.

How do you ready yourself for that (LOTS of prayer!)? How can you even begin to imagine it? How can you fathom the hearts and cries and needs of those that God will put in your path? Where do you start? What do you say? What do you do? How do you ..???

I've tried to picture their faces.. to imagine their circumstances and the situations that got them where they are.. to wonder what it would feel like?.. what they are thinking?.. what is their nightmare?.. how they can stand it?.. how hard and horrid and SCARY it must be! But it's something too foreign, I think, for any of us to do unless we've been where they've been. Walked in their shoes. Cried their own tears. How can you tell them that you love them already, even though you've never met them before? Yet, it's what I feel! For years I've wondered about them and prayed! I've wanted to reach out! Wanted to go to them and share the hope and Life that I have now found. I've wanted to tell them that we've all been imprisoned. All been held captive. All sinned. All done shameful things. All messed up royally. It's just that most of us haven't been put behind physical bars until we've completed our sentence. But still so many walking free on the outside, in reality, feel no freedom at all. I've wondered often if sometimes invisible bars are not more crushing and crippling and dehumanizing and devastating than physical ones are?

I'm excited. But scared. We're talking real lives here. I don't want to in any way repulse anyone. I only want to show them my Savior!

I have been praying for my heart and theirs as God prepares us both. That God will lead me as He leads them, wooing us both closer to Him... either sparking a new flame or bursting forth an old one. I've asked that He open both blind eyes and deaf ears, that He'll tender hearts, and break chains of bondage setting people free with a freedom that they never knew existed. That He’ll light fires inside their souls and set their hearts burning for Jesus until it consumes every other earthly thing they've got in it! I've asked that He'll make their enthusiasm and wonder contagious so that others that see them will want what they've got. That He won't only be their Savior, but that they will truly make Him Lord of their lives and that He'll effect every part of their lives left living.. every decision, every action, every reaction, every reason, every step, every thought, every word spoken. I've prayed that He will bless their socks off and blow their minds in Jesus! That He'll send forth His Word and heal all those that hear it! For after all... it's why He came!!!!

I am asking God to take a Maximum Security Women's Prison and supernaturally turn it upside down until right side up and make it into a Maximum Security-in-Christ-Jesus Facility place of His where He shows His Grace! A place where in-mates begin showing His Face all over those grounds while they continue to be transformed to look more and more and more until exactly like Him. So that people will begin seeing Him the brightest in a place that most least expect it!

I told my husband what better timing of the Memphis event... and what better place to go to be alone with God to allow Him to empty me, refuel me, refresh, and renew me and fan His flames within me to blazing in order to jumpstart this new ministry in a prison that I'm about to begin? So Beth, know that I am expecting God to do amazing and miraculous things through you in Memphis! I'm going expecting to hear my Lord and be whoa-ed by my Savior in the mightiest and most powerful of ways! I'm expecting Him to use that time in preparing me for this journey! For as you say, "There ain't no high like the God Most High!" Amen sister! I'm relying on it!! I want to take Him in to some incarcerated sisters and get High on our God MOST High together!

How did I miss your responce to this blog?
I'm in Brentwood, and wanting to go badly as well.
However, I don't want to drive that distance alone.
Let me know how I can contact you and maybe we can ride together.

Me and about 9 other peeps will be blazing a trail to Memphis next Friday afternoon from Fayette, AL!!! We were just talking about it last night before our Esther Bible study (which I L-O-V-E)!!! I am so excited. There are 5 of them that have never been to a LPL event or have been led in praise and worship by Travis!!! I cannot stress to you how giddy I am for THEM!!! If I thought about it long, I probably wouldn't sleep a wink in anticipation for THEM!!! Anywho, thanks for this blog and letting us connect before we CONNECT!!! Love you gals!!!

Planned this weekend with my daughters and daaughters in laws, but not all are able to make it., but 3 of us are and looking for a blessing once again. One has never attended a study or conference with Beth, so I`m really happy! Wish we all 5 could be there, but unless there is someone driving from Katy, TX to Memphis with room for 1 more, 3 of us will be there---waiting for God`s word poured over us. God bless you Beth!
