The Random and the Sublime

Hey, Darling Things!

It's late afternoon on Friday and we'll close up the ministry in just a little while for a three-day weekend. I thought I'd say hi before I pulled out of the driveway because I've come to love you so much and, like many times during the course of a ministry week, you are on my mind. One way you can tell when people are truly getting close is an unexplainable interest in the utterly trivial and otherwise unbearably mundane. (An interest in the trivial alone doesn't cut it. Celebrity gossip would qualify for that. To legitimately become intimate friends you must also care, for instance, that it looks as though she might be using a different hair product or could that be a new pair of shoes she's got on today?) Hence this post. But it may be one-sided, of course. Maybe I'm just perceiving that we're close. But in hopes that it's a two-way relationship, below are a few random things from the average life of your own Siesta Mama. In response I'd love to know one completely random thing from your life right now.

1. Keith and I went grocery shopping together a couple of nights ago. He was pushing the basket. He asked me to please walk down the paper aisle and grab a 12-pack of toilet tissue then, as I walked back toward him, proceeded to take off almost running so I'd have to chase him through the store with it. Can you spell M-A-T-U-R-E? And don't think I'm just referring to him because I was laughing so hard I almost needed to use some of it. The person at check-out asked us how long we'd been married because we were still so amused by one another when we got there and because I was hitting him in the arm with my fist (a well-known flirting technique). Imagine her surprise when we answered 30 and a half years. By the way, we're really in love right now. I'm so glad I let him live through last year.

2. If perhaps you heard that Geli, our birddog, has been so sick that she nearly died, it is the absolute truth but she's finally getting better. She was in the fanciest animal hospital in Houston for a solid week, much to Keith's dismay on multiple levels. The diagnosis? Somewhere along the way she ate something dead and got food poisoning from it. It caused a bacterial infection that went through her digestive system and into her lungs. Of course, Keith and I thought that carnivores like most humans and canines were supposed to eat stuff that was already dead instead of eating it while it's still alive and kicking but we are now better educated. Geli has a penchant for eating inappropriate things. A month ago we had to take her to the vet for eating a live frog. We informed them what had happened to which they replied, "That can't be it. She must have a stomach ailment of some kind." They took x-rays and, lo and behold, her stomach ailment had four legs and four feet. Perhaps that is why she then turned to carrion from which she indeed derived a very expensive stomach ailment.

3. I will list this one among the random though it is neither trivial nor mundane. I am leaving early in the morning for the wedding of our LPL praise-team drummer, Kevin and his beautiful bride-to-be, Ashley. He is the one who proposed on stage at an LPL in June. (Pittsburg) Our whole team will be there and we are super excited! Perhaps this seems to have come awfully fast in your estimation but, I assure you, it could not come fast enough for the two of them. From the moment I saw them lock eyes, I suggested we move ahead with the date. They are terribly smitten.

Oh, mercy! It's already time for me to be downstairs saying goodbye to my dear coworkers for a long weekend and locking this sweet place up! I know you must feel so cheated that I can't keep going! Before I sign off, how about a little news from the sublime category?

1. To the great glory of my faithful God, I finished the book on women's insecurity and have even been through the editing process and, except for a few finishing touches, it is ready to be type-set and sent off for print. THANK YOU, LORD!!! I will tell you more about it later but the release date is February 2nd. I have never had anything besides Breaking Free and When Godly People Do Ungodly Things get to me like this one. God turned me every way but loose on this project.

2. Our Houston Tuesday night Bible study starts the day after Labor Day! We can hardly wait to be reunited with our home girls! We miss them like crazy all summer long. Picture them from every age, background and denomination. In fact, they are a cross section of this community in so many ways. They are so incredibly dear to me. We are going to share a lecture series on the Book of Revelation. We just thought we'd do something light for a change.

OK, I'm late! I better go! Have a fabulous weekend, Girls! I pray that God does something really wonderful to bring you Sabbath rest this Labor Day. I love you!

I can only list ONE random thing? Well let's see if I can't tie this up nicely - I just renamed my blog "Beauty in the Storm" after the storm of a summer I've had - an emotional missions trip to Panama, my grandpa passing, a brand new kitten, and being told (at age 38) that I'm going to be a grandma. (I have a stepson. Some storms shake us, and some refresh us. But there's beauty in the storm.

I have discovered the joy of Aveeno shampoo and conditioner. (A must for thick, curly hair).

Okay - this is two, but my best-friend and husband of 24 years and I are on vacation from work this week and we will both be heading in different physical directions for some deep spiritual renewal for several days this week. Oh glory - when we get back together.

Love ya Miss Beth - just love ya.

Ok, my totally trivial item is hair related. I am so proud of my hair. I have had straight, fine hair since as far back as I can remember. I got my first perm/body wave when I was 13 and got one every 4-6 months until I was 30 years old. I am now 42. My hair has begun to have waves and body on its own. I have it layered and it is shoulder length. I try really hard to get it to be big. I have always liked volume. I usually blow dry it out and use root lifter. Well,,, this week I just kind of used gel and scrunched it. It is soooo cute, if I do say so myself. How's that for trivial?

Well, random...hmmm... I am learning to be a stay at home mom and I have found myself running my home like I run a classroom... I have a schedule and routine for everyday of the week. Kinda quirky. :)

we are close. you're not imagining it. so here are two things, one random, one sublime:

1) i made a zucchini, yellow squash, and tomato casserole for dinner tonight and loved it. normally, i hate cooked veggies.

2) i do not have to wake before the sun for the next two days. (i work the opening shift at starbucks, so i'm usually up at 3:45a.) this truly qualifies as SUBLIME!

My completely random thing for you to know my dear Beth is that I just spent the last few minutes with my kiddos (well-step-kiddos) but mine none-the-less in complete and utter laughter...over nothing and everything and with the week we have had it was completely sublime. They are headed to spend the weekend with their mom and I wish every send-off could be so sweet!

In Him,

I love that you and Keith still act that way. I can totally picture you (not really him cuz I have never seen him) being so silly like that.

Looking forward to your new book. Breaking Free and Believing God were so life giving to me.

Here is something trivial...but it seems it rules my life. I am a mom of twin four year old boys and a 2.5yr old girl...and the wifey of one HOT daddy!!! Our washing machine and dryer are so tiny that I end up doing over 16 loads of wash/wk!!! When we move, having a LARGE capacity clothes washer will be such a DAILY blessing!! Is it silly that something so simple could make me so happy?

Mama Siesta- and the rest of the team - blessings to you this wonderful weekend!
Anyway, as this moment I am tempted away from billable work to reading the blog and responding... and updating my memory verse spiral pack!
Got some challenges going on, where I am SO very tempted to give up hope that God will choose to step in (I NEVER doubt that He can!). I am therefore starting a series on Hope- and the first one is Rom 4:17-22 where it says God calls those things that aren't as though they ARE, and that Abraham believed against all hope (and may have felt crazy at times too!).
Blessings to y'all - never doubt that you are so dear to us out here and that we do treasure the insights of those God uses; that He uses "regular" folks so powerfully! So keep sharing the funny and lighthearted with the deep and meaningful.
Bridget in Phoenix

PS - our little Westie had some very expensive intestinal issues caused by too much fish oil; us trying to improve his skin & coat, so we indirectly caused his problems :( We are so grateful God chose to let us keep him here, after several days at expensive hospital, so I feel your pain on all those levels!! Glad she's doing better :)

99 days from first date to wedding day (my husband's an engineer, why else would I know exactly how many days it was!?!) Happily married for 8 years now. Two beautiful boys! (Plus two feisty mutt dogs)
Weekend:
We're having a Progressive dinner. Appetizers at my sister's. Dinner here. Dessert at my bro-in-law's. Pan-Asian theme. Yum!

My thought is from the absolutley sublime catagory...Long story short, in the hopes of being encouraging to an otherwise upset woman about not be taken care of by her church in terms of corespondance (call back please!?!) I ran my mouth off and feared that perhaps I had stepped out in telling her and her husband to be bold in the faith and realized today that God did not tell me to tell them that and "WHO WAS I TO SAY what they could do and be in Jesus." BAD!
But the sublime comes from today, because, well, I was under an attack of condemnation that I had treaded ground not meant to be treaded and that I was in trouble. I tried to re-assure myself that "He will never leave me nor forsake me," and HE WON'T, but sometimes it feels foggy still and you can't see clearly. So much of waht I love of study is the questions, the wonders, putting the puzzle pieces together. But I feared that I was becoming more interested in the ability to piece together some pattern of God than really knowing God.
But I hung close to the hem of my PAPA'S Robe and towards the end of the day, he got me to my realization.

LORD, do not let me get lost in the investigative part of study, but let me get lost in the love of you!

God is not a pattern, a formula, and as joyous as we are to be called to Bible Study, it is in a holy reverence for God we even breathe the next breath to accept.

AND DON'T TALK LIKE I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKIN ABOUT UNLESS I KNOW I HAVE DIVINE PERMISSION.

I did pray that this couple would be a couple that above all would seek God's face in this and ignore me - but the lesson that is so beautiful to me is that at the end of this day before my weekend I feel more intimately aquainted with my Father, My God, My Lord than ever, because I feel like I have weathered a test and it's not so much that I passed, but that I feel closer to Him.

And that is BREATHTAKING!

I loved this! Especially #1 of your random facts! I have only been married 9 1/2 months, but i hope me & mine are still acting like that after 30 years of marriage! & actually, i have no doubt about that! :)

1. I am extremely lucky (blessed) in the love category. And i thought it wouldn't happen for me. I didn't date at all except for one guy when i was 19. We broke up & never dated anyone again... until he called me in December of 2007. We'd been broken up for 11 years- had not dated or kissed anyone since then! That is a LONG time- especially when all your friends are getting married & starting families! As it turned out, he was the one for me after all! We've almost made a year & i still have no idea what people were talking about when they kept saying while i was engaged, "the first year is SOOOOO HARD". REALLY? It's been the best year of my life!!!

(2) Hubby & i are going to San Antonio, TX for our 1 year anniversary. We've never been there! So excited!

(3) We have a dog named Fievel, a shih tzu who is such a mess!!

(4) I just decided i want to be a teacher. Didn't get married till 30, didn't decide what i want to be when i grow up till 31! HA! Oh-well.

(5) I'm very involved in the local theatre. I've met so many different kinds of people, all very different from this church-raised girl. But i am so thankful to know them all. & i desperately hope that God will use me in their lives.

Thanks for your blog! This is my first post but i'm totally encouraged by it!

OK my randomness for this week is that after a year of our church being in transition and a year of searching for a new pastor we found one but that's not it. I found out Wednesday his temporary housing for the next year is next door to me! And that was the day he moved in. WOW! So many emotions right now :) Of all the places in the world...LOL
Well, Enjoy your weekend Siesta Mama!

Siesta Mama Beth,

Thank you for sharing. There can be something so sweet about the mundane. I took the afternoon off to run some errands before the long weekend. It ended up being just my teenage son, Dan, and me. We went grocery shopping among other things. The sweetness of it was we spent the afternoon together. You see it was 13 years ago today that my precious baby boy flew halfway around the world from Korea to MSP. I shared with him my memories as we drove home from Trader Joe's. What a special blessing from the LORD this afternoon.

I am not sure if y'all have heard this new song,"Take Me Home," by Lisbeth Scott, but please check out this link from YouTube. Absolutley beautiful, prayful... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agWUBRFsMPM

Here are some of the lyrics:

“I shall lay down all of my troubles and I’ll lift up this heart of mine ….
Take me home LORD

Oh Take me home

O’er the hillside and O’re the sea

To the soft grass of the valley

Where your grace shall set me free”

Blessings this holiday weekend!

My randomness is also related to grocery shopping. I thought this pregnant Mama could handle the big grocery trip this morning, but I wanted to throw up in the frozen food aisle with my 21 month old screaming at me, and now I don't know how I will eat anything that I actually bought. Ugh.

One complete random thing in my life right now...I REALLY need a haircut. You don't want to know how long it's been. I will mention that I have a one year old and a two year old! Anyway, I think it's crazy you're teaching Revelation. I have really sensed the Spirit of God prompting me to study this book lately. I've started to study and was wondering if I'll be able to listen to the teachings from Tuesday night. I live in New York...kind of a far drive :o)

I have been on a weight-reduction plan for almost a month, and it has been surprisingly easy. Then I started the Daniel study and do you think Satan was happy about that? No he was not, and I woke up completely unmotivated with my eating plan. In two weeks I have gained back almost two pounds, but I also have ramped up my prayer efforts and am back on board. May God develop integrity in me, even in my eating!

I love these posts. It's how you know it's a group of women who have never met who have the most important thing in common - we love the most AWESOME God!
Random: My son was late for school because we had to wait for the Roto-Rooter man to fix the dishwasher. It was either that or hand-wash dishes until Tuesday. The dishwasher was more important than school.
Sublime: I've been having trouble staying asleep (grief related). Today I hurt my back and the MD prescribed a muscle relaxer w/ extended release that will make me sleep all night. I was so excited I could have jumped for joy. But that would have hurt my back again. God answered my prayer through my hurt back!
Have a peaceful Labor Day,

The Trivial:
1. I have been letting my 3 and a half year old daughter play her computer for the past hour... so I can play on my computer because I am too tired to get anything else done (although there is plenty to BE done), and I don't want to play Candy Land for the 100th time today, neither do I want to "conduct" and "perform" with her while she sings to her toys and then gives them trophy prizes. Granted that is big fun, but I am over it for the day. I am convincing myself not to feel guilty about it because PBSkids and Starfall are educational web sites :-)

2. It is really bothering me that the #1 item has major run-on sentence issues, but per the aforementioned tiredness, I will not fix it. Just comment on it.

3. What better way to share not-so sublime parts of my life than to share a few of my most recent facebook statuses?:

-Juliana: "Mommy, I made a snowman, come look!" Unfortunately when I came to look, I discovered that she was referring to the shape of what came out of her hind end and landed in the toilet. J loves to "make a snowman" out of anything... balls, play-doh, grapes, etc. But I could have done without this particular visual reference :-)

-I love it when my girl randomly bursts out in praise songs while she is playing. "Halle-loo-luh, halle-loo-luh, God is here, God is here" . Too sweet. I am one blessed mommy.

- I'm kind of excited that Juliana's soccer team is the "Aflac Ducks" :) How fun is that?

The Sublime:
-My husband and I just purchased tickets to the October LPL event in Memphis! Yes, I said MY HUSBAND and I. He will be one of the few brave men :-) This is sublime for a few reasons: #1- although I have been blessed to worship with our dear friends on TC's praise team this year at the minister's wives' conference and via simulcast, my husband hasn't gotten to see our favorite bald bass player play since before we moved 6 years ago. Their schedules just have a hard time meeting up and they miss each other greatly, so we are really excited about this. (Whenever anyone in said bass player's work world meets my husband, we always get, OH, YOU'RE his geek friend! Yes. They enjoy comics and other things in the realm of geek-dom together. That is my man.) Also worshiping with, who TCs team refers to as "squalls", is one of my favorite things in the world. You know her, so I'm sure you know why. It just makes my heart full. #2- My husband and I RARELY get to visit old friends or go to adult spiritual-growth events together. Because of his busy youth pastor schedule, we almost always have to do visiting of friends and spiritual growth things in "shifts", separately from each other. Getting to do this together is a HUGE blessing for us. We need it. And we are praying that we all STAY WELL so that it works out! #3- The event is the day after my birthday. I wasn't expecting anything really special for 27, but this worked out. So I am just a little extra excited that I get to call it my birthday present, lol.

Well, my daughter has just come to me and told me she is done with the computer and she shut it down herself, so I guess that is my cue to go as well.

My Tuesday Morning Bible Study group starts up the day after Labor Day too. We have had the whole summer off and have really missed each other. We will be doing a Beth Moore study again of course!!
Hope everyone's weekend is relaxing and blessed.

Oh dear Beth, I love you too!

I am THRILLED that you have written something about women's insecurity. Do I EVER need to read it the moment it is released!

A Random thing about me? I am absolutely, 100%, terribly scared to death of birds. That's right. I am TERRIFIED of them. Even the ones that people think are cute. Like a hummingbird. Or the fun ones, like a parrot. Not cute, not fun. I have to remind myself moment by moment that our Lord God created them and loves them.

And don't even try to imagine how happy I am when we sing "His Eye is On the Sparrow."!! I praise the Good Lord that His eye IS on that terrifying beast because perhaps He will keep it from causing me bodily harm.

..."and I know He watches me."

How is that for random? :-)

Have a great weekend, my friend.

Random? OK! I am getting ready for routine(which I don't enjoy) to start on Tuesday. It is the beginning of school starting at the Gerathy house. My husband is a principal at a high school that our daughter is beginning her freshman year at. We are praying this is a good thing although our daughter is thinking of changing her last name. Gerathy is not like Smith where you can say "oh it is a coincidence that we have the same last name". So dad and daughter go off to school together(literally) this year. Pray we have a cohesive school year! Any other siestas out there in the same boat?

Aw... Thanks for sharing the random and the sublime. It really makes us "buddies." My random is that tomorrow is my son's 28th birthday, and we're going to have a pizza supper with his friends. It's random, but it's the heart of my living life. The sublime, besides the birthday, is that after my weekend at your conference, I have been closer to God than I have ever been in my life and so ravenous for a word through HIS word that I cannot stand it... I'm a long time Christian that has tried to live my life GOOD from MY resources. Aw.... it doesn't stick, but this... this relying on God??? I think you're on to something, sweetie! Thanks.. Hugs and Happy Labor Day.... Stay out of trouble in the supermarket!

My 3 1/2 year old son is "potty training," although it's really "poop training" because he uses the potty for pee every time but for some reason still prefers to poop in his pants. Recently, he's decided to start taking off his poopy underwear, dumping the poop in the potty, and, occasionally, rinsing the underpants himself. Needless to say, he doesn't always have good aim, making me the poop-cleaning-queen these days. I'd like to assume another title...SOON! :)

A random snippet of life in Raleigh North Carolina:

our life has been turned upside down by two new little kittens! they are cute and adorable and into everything and anything. everything is a toy, especially anything shiny or dangl-y. they tumble down the stairs and over each other and love to play. they are a bright spot in an otherwise difficult year - so thankful that God made kittens!

Beth, I was in Green Bay at your simulcast and must admit that I am one of those "don't write in your Bible people." -But I'm getting better.
Growing up in a Catholic school, religion was something you got a grade for. Unfortunately, just like my Social Studies class, once I learned it well enough to pass the test, I never retained it nor applied it to my life in any meaningful way.
I attended mass every week and assumed I was safe because I said all the right things, knew all the words to the prayers and went to church faithfully. But I never truly believed because I never really completely understood my relationship with God.
Your studies, passion and teachings have changed my desire to want to learn and do good. "Thank you!"
One completely random thing about me is that, up until today, I thought I was pretty good at math. We are doing a garage sale and someone called me on the fact that I posted a sign... "DVD's $4.00 each or 2 for $10.00." With a red face, I corrected it to read "$4.00 each or 3 for $10.00." It was worth a shot!
Blessings to you and your family this Labor Day weekend and always.

I loved the grocery store story, those tickled giggles are the best. I had a similar experience yesterday with my husband, We had a long drive home from Indiana after dropping our last child off at school. We have been married 32 years, early 50's, so despite the empty nest feeling, I was happy to just be a couple again. We were on a lonely stretch of road in North Dakota, stopped at the only rest stop for miles. My husband walked into the men's side, only to find the men's room was occupied by a truck driver, I mean OCCUPIED. So I convinced him to use the ladies, after all there was no one insight for miles. So as he headed through the ladies door, I raced back to the car to grab my camera! I caught the greatest shot of him coming out of that door, he looked like he swallowed a frog!!, I was so ammused with myself that we giggled all the way home.

Beth, I can't think of a better way to start this long weekend than hearing from you. I am delighted that you let Keith live through the last year, and I hope that when I reach thirty and a half years of marriage with my husband we will be flirting with each other in the grocery store too!

Something random from my life: My 18 month old son has learned the extremely important life skill of the zerbert. He chooses to practice it at very inappropriate times by lifting up my shirt and slobbering all over my stomach. I suspect that the jillions of zerberts received by him from his older sister has played a role in this latest accomplishment of his.

Something sublime: God has demonstrated His perfect love for me by completely rearranging my college class schedule so that I could attend my women's Bible study without feeling guilty about having my son in child care an additional day. We were both suffering from separation anxiety, but I knew I needed to be in corporate study of the Word, and God has honored that commitment.

Praise Him! Have a wonderful weekend!

Beth,
I've sort of thought of you as one of my best friends for a long time now. Glad to know that you feel the same way! It kills me though that I can't just tell you when stuff (good or bad) is going on in my life like I can my other girl friends. There have been so many times I've thought "I just wish I could tell Beth". I have often wondered what you would have to say about the latest issue that comes my way.

Thanks for being sharing the random as well as the not-random! And thanks for being my friend!

O.K. I'm sooo excited to be the first one to leave a message. First of MANY I know.
Well, I think the most random thing is my husband proposed marriage to me last year after 38 years of marriage, he even got down on his knees. We had an outside our Church wedding renewal in front of the rose garden and fountain. I had a beautiful dress and he and my son walked me down the aisle with bright pink and reg. pink roses everywhere. Then after the sun setting wedding we had a wonderful reception at our house and I "not a singer" sang him the song by Kenny Rogers "Through the Years". A week later we went on our first honeymoon, a cruise to Mexico. We had A GREAT time and it was GREAT to recommit our love and life together with Christ. We never had a Church wedding and never had a honeymoon 38 years ago. I was a Junior in High School. Through our life there has been MANY ups and downs BUT we have ALWAYS had such strong LOVE XOXO for each other. That's what keeps a marriage together and of course living your lives with our LORD JESUS CHRIST in it. I will ALWAYS love this man in my life FOREVER, til death do us part. AMEN

Mine is so trivial it may make you fall asleep. The modem connector on my computer went and I was with out phone or computer all day...bad enough you say. It gets worse! My darling child somehow racked up 1,700 text messages in one month. Well I out right refused to pay the bill...of course she is only 14 and has no job so could not pay for it...um, when you don't pay your cell phone bill they do cancel your service.
I had to go real quick and pay that bill. She still lost phone privileges, and is now my modern day version of an indentured servant, but at least I have my cell back. I fixed the computer too. I am back in the loop! Praise God!

The only thing on my mind right now is my kids leaving for the Middle East in 6 days. I have my moments when it just overwhelms me and moments when I am excited for them. I just know they will be missed by a bunch of folks. So my random stuff is packing for them as they are visiting other family for a few days. It is eaiser to pack without the kids here to "help" me!! And yes, Beth it is a two way street. We all just love you and the ladies that serve with you. You make us laugh and cry and all in between! Have a great weekend, Vicki

Beth, Thanks for asking. I've always hoped and felt it was a two way relationship, so here goes...For the random: my four year old grandson is going to a little K-4 class and they are learning some Spanish. This week's words are el muchacho and la muchacha to which he has taken a liking to saying frequently and might I add, applying it correctly. So the other night I walked by his door and he called out, "Hey, muchacha." It was so hilarious coming from a four year old little boy who is just barely getting a grasp of English much less Spanish. So cute!

For the sublime: I just enrolled in Morningstar University's Online bible and ministry school. I'm so excited that I can barely wait for Tuesday to get here so I can get started on some homework. I've wanted to do something like this for a year or so and when I found out about it, I knew it was the way to go. My husband is very supportive and excited for me too!

Glad Geli is better!

I love these kind of posts. It really does make it feel like we are friends - I'm not even going to try and justify or understand how women from different backgrounds, different ages, different countries and who have never met can consider themselves friends - but my rational brain can't help but like it despite myself!

Random thing about me lately - well at the moment I am planning my daughters joint 4th and 2nd birthday parties and might be getting a tad carried away (as much as I giggled at Amanda's post this week I might have to quickly learn a lesson)- It is just that disney princess stuff is SO darlin' and I know they'll just love it!

Also just so you know - I recently finished the Daniel study and I CAN NOT remove from my brain the challenge to 'take up my ponsa' - before the study I felt the Lord repeatedly saying to me 'This is your patch, this is your shift' as if I were in a dodgey cop show -but the ponsa thing just sealed it -and floored me. Thanks for being so challenging bethmoore.

Have a lovely labor day weekend - wish it were bank holiday here!

Dearest Beth,
The feelings you have for us Siestas are cetainly NOT one sided. I just finished a hard week at work. Because of illness/vacation of co workers, I was the only RN for nine clinics and my normal 40 hour work week turned out to be 52 hours long! I came home EXHAUSTED today to find my ticket for the August 2010 LPL in Lexington in my mailbox!! WooHoo...instant energy. When I got tired at work I kept reminding myself that this OVERTIME pay will help with my Houston trip in January. I can't wait. Hope you have a GREAT Labor Day weekend.

We are close Siesta Mama!!!...I've always felt close to you via the bible studies but this has been a true blessing. I do believe that God has ordained the use of this blog for his glory and for your benefit too. I know that you desire more intimate contact with us but in large arenas that is not possible so this blog does provide that for you (how was that for a massive run on sentence!!!). I am so glad that God has led me here and that I am a part of this :)

So, the one random thing about me for right now....

I am reading too many books at once! Here is the list:
1. Crazy Love-Francis Chan
2. Feeding Your Appetites-Stephen Arterburn
3. Alaska Twilight-Colleen Coble
4. Bible (this should be on the top of the list).

One random thing: I'm thrilled to announce that my baby girl no longer throws the worst temper tantrums known to mankind (well, at least to us) when her milk is presented in *gasp* a sippy cup. Somehow, this child didn't get the memo that #3 is supposed to be mellow.

Yay!! Congratulations to Kevin and Ashley! May God bless you as you begin your life together!!

One random thing...we turned our home into a real-life Rubix Cube last Sunday. There are still ongoing ripples that are shaking the boat. We moved our 16yr old daughter into our room, moved the downstairs office into her old room, moved the downstairs guestroom furniture into her new room, and moved our master bedroom furniture downstairs into the old office/guestroom. Whew!! Shouldn't need to work out at all this week! We are still sorting through boxes in the hallway and trying to find extension cords to reach the randomly placed outlets in this century-old farmhouse. Today I painted the new office space so we can get my very patient husband back into his business in there!
sublime: I am starting the Esther study next Friday! Can't wait, can't wait!!

Wanted to float in the pool, but it's raining.

Resting....absoltuley napping!!!!! It's been a very very stressful two months.

Oh, and mourning the loss of a thumbnail.. I smashed it in a file drawer about a month ago, just ugly colors....well yesterday it started lifting....A woman loosing a thumbnail!!!!

speaking of dead animals.....the day of the simulcast we had a TERRIBLE SMELL in our "fellowship hall". Panic did not discribe the frenzy we were in trying to figure out what it was and where it was coming from. We prayed, HE ANSWERED, and it was GONE on Sat!! (Praise You Lord). It did however return Sunday morning and we then discovered it was a dead opossum under the church. Not kidding!

Simulcast was awesome! Glory to GOD!!

To top it off my 14 year old was trying to cut us off and send us into the ditch!

I love random...

I went to a new hair stylist; a young woman going through hair school and when she dyed it blonde; we are not sure what my natural color is; it took on some red tones. Those who know me know I'm blonde through and through so the red is NOT working for me...went to my old, previous stylist and he's in the process of getting it back to blonder than I need to be. Fall is almost here and my hair needs to be ready!

My sweet daughter-in-law and I have been walking the track at the Jr. High and several weeks ago I was attacked by a huge water sprinkler; I'm not talking the kind you have in your yard...this thing was ginormous and it SOAKED my back, shorts, even my socks ended up wet by the time we got home! Anywho, every time we walk now, I'm a bit jumpy when the sprinklers come on and she thinks it's funny...I'll show her; next time she can walk the inside of the track and get attacked by the killer sprinkler.

So ready to start our fall study...our group of young women are going to study "believing God"...I did it 4 years ago and it impacted my life in so many ways; can't wait to see what He has to teach me this time...you can teach an "old blonde" new tricks! :o)

Love you and the LPM gals...have a wonderful time at the wedding.

Oh, sweet Beth. Thanks for your kind note. Always love to hear what is going on.

Remember when my hubby left his stable job to study for his CFP for a year? (I understand if you don't recall :-)

Well, I had to go back to work. I called it a blessing with bruises.

Thought I was going to loose my job this month (contract ending 9/30). Was so excited to get back to quiet time mornings.

Found out today...they are looking to hire me full-time. I won't be able to say no. Benefits. Steady pay. Not sure how to balance ministry and work with two little ones.

Sorry to go on. That's what I'm wrestling with today.

Love you,
Susan

You want random and mundane? My life has been nothing but, here of late. I'm a school teacher who started on the 26th and, to the praise of His glorious grace, had the day off today. Oh, what bliss! I slept in, cleaned the house from top to bottom (in my jammies!), did all my laundry, ironing, and paperwork, and even sat down to watch an episode of CSI: New York. Soon time to tuck the kiddos in bed and then enjoy some snuggling and an ice cold Cherry Coke with the husband. It doesn't get any better than this! Thanks for caring enough about us to share your "random and mundane." I think that's why we all feel like we know you. You are going to be very popular in Heaven because so many of us will be lined up to meet you!

Beth, recently I wrote an article for WMU, myMISSIONfulfilled.com, about Ron Hall and Denver Moore ... amazing story how a successful art dealer befriended a homeless man. They are coming to our church in Fort Worth to speak, and I was asked to write another article for our church newsletter. I was so honored and can barely wait to hear them and hopefully meet them in person! If you haven't read their book ... read it ... so good! Same Kind of Different As Me.

My husband and I and our two young girls are getting ready for a trip to Disney World at the end of this month ... so pumped ... our favorite place!

Thank you for taking a picture with me at the taping of Life Today! I love you! My girls love you, too ... only 9 and 11 and are already Beth Moore fans! Because you make us God-fans!!

Beth, What a dear picture you paint of a sweet relationship of more then 30 years! A few random funny notes from our family: Our 5 year old Anna fell in love with the Chronicles of Narnia this week, but she calls them the Miracles of Narnia. This week I was able to tell the story of Lot to some Hindu ladies, they knew some of the bible stories but were astounded with this one. Within a year these ladies have become my dear friends and continuously ask questions about Christianity. How cool when we can be missionaries in our own back yards!

My 4 kids are away on a camp out this weekend (YES!!), so I'm working like crazy. Took time out to eat dinner at the park. Asked God to let me talk to someone there. 'Talked to a woman in her 80's from the neighborhood, who has her nephew's family living off of her. She told me all about how the young grand-nieces who live with her had recently been abandoned by their mother, who's now headed to prison again. 'Said the 4 year old's crying for Mommy all the time. God's given me a heart for orphans and a 4-year old daughter for yet another reason, I think...! Thank you, Lord! How utterly humbling and amazing that God could use the likes of me for His work.

Have a great holiday weekend, Beth!

calling all prayer warriors...Please pray for my husband tomorow morning between 8:00- 10:00. He is a pastor in a church in DESPERATE need of the truth and satan is attacking full force. Please pray that the elder's would be wise and BOLD and that satan's attacks would be thwarted. "wisdom is sweet and honeycomb, when you find it you find it there is a future hope for you and your hope will not be cut off" Prov. 24:14. Pray that the Elders would find wisdom and that our hope would not be cut off. Pray the Holy Spirit would reign down Holy Fire like Pentecost. Thank you all you prayer warriors.

Beth,

My favorite sandals really need replacing. You know how you can wear them for far longer than they should be worn when you are just slipping them on your feet day after day, but when you are going out of town and go to put them in your suitcase, you realize they really just need to be thrown away? Happened to me the other day. And I was sad, because I get attached to my shoes.

On a more serious note: I am a 32 year old siesta who responded to your simulcast post asking us what is currently the biggest issue in our lives. Mine was a fear of my cancer returning. Just 3 days after the simulcast, I got a call from my doctor that it had, indeed, returned. Can you even believe that? I want you to know that God IS giving me the grace in my very time of need, just like you have told us he would. And my last memory verse from August 15 was Psalm 18:28-29 - My God turns my darkness into light. Praise Him.

Something random: hmmm...In southern Calif. we've had a really big fire raging for the last week. It's some miles from me but the huge cloud of smoke looks like an atomic bomb has gone off. Today I heard that its burned at least 240 sq miles.and still burning. It's been determined to be started by arson.

Random about me: I had a circulation test on my legs today and everything looks/sounds fine. Thank you Lord.

As a tired homemaker with a toddler, I decided to treat myself to a trip to ULTA for a flat iron. [The backstory is that my husband thinks he threw my other one away in the move. And also that last weekend on a girls retreat, I felt impressed to start making more of an effort to fix myself up, mainly for me but also for my husband.] So, as I'm waiting in line, my hair isn't really fixed and I have day-old make up on, I hear the clerk tell the lady in front of me who has on full make up and a chic little hair cut, that she loves her hair. So when I get to my turn to check out, I said to the clerk, aren't you gonna tell me you like my hair? The lady in front of me was the exact opposite of me; she was in a sleek pant suit and looked like she was headed out for the evening. I was in white shorts with food stains and a polo shirt pushing my son in his consignment store stroller.

We laughed. Thank goodness!

Thank you, Beth. It is such a delight being your pen pal blog friend. Never mind that you are the best bible teacher and encourager for Christ ever- to thousands of women all over the world!!! I'm so glad you let Keith live, so that we are not having to write you "behind bars". My 29 year old son called today and asked to fly to Spain for a bike race for his upcoming 30th birthday- not a great financial time- but, OF COURSE, is the answer- he is a fire man and training to be a paramedic- my younger son called not long after asking about my available airline miles for a Jan. ski trip- he just completed law school- and, of course, the answer was YES- there is great Thanksgiving for both requests- One son has survived a depression that most do not survive and the other a severe learning disability that prevents most from surviving our education systems- so with great pleasure, the answer was YES-even though my pocket book screamed "OUCH"- I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be asked for "normal" healthy extravagant requests- I sometimes forget to give God thanksgiving that we are on this side of such a journey- Not finished yet, but OH- so grateful and the post traumatic syndrome is beginning to fade a bit- Thanks again for the grocery store "recap" and congrats on the latest book, I know it will bless each of us- You and Keith deserve to be very HAPPY and very much in Love- Have a good weekend- One of your Siestas

It's so good to hear from you! You've been on the go for quite awhile and we've missed you! You've touched some wonderful hearts in the last several months. (really in the last 10+ years, I'm sure)! It's great to read all the comments of those who attend an LPL Event sharing how God spoke to them or is working in their lives. Thanks Beth, opening your heart so big!

I love these Random and Sublime posts!! They're always fun and full of laughter. I would love to have seen you chasing Keith through the store with a 12 pk of toilet tissue! OMG!! I'm glad to hear Geli is getting better, it sounds like she likes the fancy hospital! They must have tasty food!

I know y'all love Blue Bell Ice Cream as much as we do, so you'll understand the atmosphere in our house when Wayne came home from the store one night as upset as Keith was about NO Moon Pies! They had NO Bluebell, not even a half-gallon!!! We had one 'mini cup' of BB Homemade Vanilla in the freezer!! He looked at me with his baby blues and said, "We can split it"! I just couldn't do that to him, that man and his Bluebell are inseparable and he weighs 22 lbs less than when we returned to Texas! It's truly not fair. Ya gotta love our men.

Travel safe! And Blessings and Best Wishes to Kevin and Ashley!

It's really hard to pick just one completely random thing. My life is full of randomness. I think I know which one I'll go with, though. I'm a part-time nanny for my aunt and uncle and for my aunt's coworker, whose 3-year-old son I was watching when this happened a few days ago. He wanted to play instead of eat breakfast, but I told him that I wouldn't play with him until he ate. Normally, we have a lot of fun together playing and he'll look up aat me and say, "You're a good girl, Beth." Well, when I told him he had to eat first, he told me, "I thought you were a good girl, Beth!" and then decided he wasn't talking to me anymore because he was mad at me. It was then that I realized why God made children to be difficult sometimes. He's one of those parents that says, "I hope you have a child just like you someday that treats you the way you treat me!" and He has the power to make it happen. I realized that we do the same thing to Him. When He doesn't give us what we want, even though it's for our own good, we tell Him, "I thought You were good!" and decide we're not talking to Him for a little while.

BTW, I just have to mention how fitting your last comment is for my life today, Beth. It's my second week as a part-time nanny and I'm still getting used to being so busy. I crie out to God several times yesterday morning to tell Him I NEEDED rest. I was supposed to wrk this morning, but God answered my prayers and gave me the day off! I am gladly accepting His gift and spending the day resting! GOD IS SO GOOD! God bless! Love ya!

We laugh, tease and enjoy each other's company when only a year ago we hit rock bottom after a hard 15 years. God's been so faithful to us to turn our marriage totally around. We're just in awe that it can be this good. We're head over heals for one another.

Beth,
As a homeschooling Mom of two very different children, my life is all about random! Thursday my 10-year- old daughter left her books at piano lessons, so today, we made a trip back to get them. Both kids started soccer today. Well, my 8-year-old son left his brand new ball at the soccer field! We made another trip back to get it! After speaking (sternly) to both of them about being responsible for their things, I'm now laughing at myself because as my grandmother used to tell me all the time: "I'd forget my panties if they weren't elastic!" :) Have a great Labor Day Weekend and thank you for all you and the team at LPM do!!

I am WAY down south so we went to the back of a truck stop tonight with my in-laws and ate fried catfish. Mush to their chagrin I always order the grilled fish... The owner gives the kids M&M's from the gas station part after dinner for desert!

SO not a one-sided relationship, Mama Beth! You are dearly loved.. <3

I can absolutely attest to the fact that dogs sometimes have a penchant for frogs. My crazy chihuahua goes after them ALL the time. Glad sweet Geli is going to be alright!

And my random thing is that I am, as we speak, hosting my son's 13th birthday party. It's a sleepover, which is probably an inaccurate term, because given the amazing amount of Mt. Dew these boys consume there will be NO shut-eye tonight. So your prayer for a sweet Sabbath may very well come true considering that I may be comatose by then.

Have a beautiful weekend!

randomly sublime...

So, I teach fourth grade but after school I get to be a human jungle gym in aftercare for a couple of hours. Can I just say, the 3-year olds my absolute favorites?

Case in point: This week I was helping a little tyke put together a dinosaur, and apparently failing miserably at the task. He looked up at me and said in the sweetest voice ever, "Do you need your daddy to help you with that?"

The innocence and sweetness of that just made my day. And yes, I called my daddy to share the grin. He totally would have helped me out.

Thanks for the chance to share. Have a super Labor Day!

One completely random thing from my life: I'm an occupational therapist and work for a school board, so I travel around between several different schools. On Wednesday afternoon, I was walking down the hall with one of my special education teachers..low and behold we got in trouble by another teacher for walking on the wrong side of the hallway. We were walking down the left side of the hallway and apparently we were supposed to be on the right side:)

I can't wait to get together with women from all walks of life...not just church life..to see what God will do as He speaks to us right where we are through His timely and timeless Word!

I'm glad to hear that we're not the only ones that are random and sublime!! Here's a little of ours... Our 7 month old golden-doodle has an obsession for toilet paper. He's constantly stealing it from the cabinet or bag, then shredding it in another room. My husband just makes me laugh all the time. I just sat down with some ice cream and noticed I really need to clean my house instead of watch tv on how to decorate my house! Final random note is that I'm doing your 90 days with Jesus with my 12 year old daughter Zoe, and it's just awesome what God is teaching us. Love you, too!!!

I'm a regular reader but rare poster - mostly for 'time' reasons but i just couldn't resist this one...Maybe I'm feeling a little less time-deprived due to knowing it's a 3 day weekend. YaY!
I love that you & Keith go to the grocery store together! My honey and I also make the trip together and it is fun flirting up and down the aisles!! We've been on our journey together 28.5 years.
Oh dear...we had a dog once that ate everything he could find and then promptly 'deposited' it on our floor...never had the expense of a serious stomach issue with him though. So thankful that Geli is better.
Our son is getting married in November - he's in TN with his darlin' fiance - she is everything (and WAY more) that I ever prayed for in a wife for him - to the glory of God!! We are SO very thankful. We are in FL so it's been a little sad not to be able to be in on every second of the wedding planning and fun but we are just so excited for the two of them!
It is so strange to feel like someone is family and yet never have met them! I love you and pray for you often.
Praying you have a safe & fun holiday weekend!

One Random Thang - I am starting "Stepping Up" this Sunday at a sister church in my town. Can't wait! I KNOW God planned this just for me. Life is stinkin' hard right now with some ISSUES in my marriage. Pray for us. I'm standing by faith for Victory...in our marriage. But it is so hard on my tiny brain. It really is about the size of a mustard seed right now. But my faith is HUGE!

Beth, it is mutual. I feel so close to you - and I know because I do care about you and your life - even the mundane.
One little fact about me is that I am a mom of 3 and a college student for the first time (at age 37). I feel like studying and homework take up my whole life right now.
Also, our group of ladies begin Esther on Sept 17th in my home, and I CAN NOT wait!!! (I will HAVE to find the time to do this work!!)
Love you Beth!

We are close! I always refer to you as my friend, Beth...seriously! My husband finds it odd but the girls in my Bible study understand because they feel it, too!
Trivial fact: My youngest son, Ian, gave a demonstration during our family time tonight of how he can make his armpit sound like...well, a bodily function. It is a very new trick, and he is incredibly skilled using different angles and speeds to make different sounds. His older brother is jealous...and I suspect, will begin practicing for his own demonstration.

One completely random thing from my life right now...

I'm obsessed with my boys (husband of 7 years, almost 3 year old, and 9 month old). Seriously. I think I kissed my baby's sweet peach fuzz covered head approximately 9,842 times today, laughed out loud at my big boy at least 99 times, and laughed with and kissed my hubby every time we were in the same room today.

I'm smitten, smitten, smitten, and it's so much fun!

Since toilet paper was the spring board for the trivia request I'll add mine. My boyfriend and I have been married 37 years this Nov. He prefers that HIS roll of TP roll forward so if he is in need of a small reaction to teasing or just extra attention, his roll may be changed to roll under, be taped or glued closed, be pulled apart to single sheets, be wet on the back and therefore unusable,or simply be missing altogether (along with backup rolls!) Our life is a hoot to our 4 grown kids and 6 grands! Thank you for sharing in our love for Jesus!!!

Random thing about me: hmmm...how about really honest? My son's little hamster died this week and he was devastated...I was not(he doesn't know that of course). I was ready to be rid of rodents and our neighbors (truly lovely and well intentioned people) bought him a newer (and bigger) one 'cause they felt sorry for his loss....ugh. I was irritated (inside, of course) and then my middle son said, "Isn't God awesome, mama? He put it on their heart to get us a new hamster so we wouldn't be sad about Tilly". Now I am in love with the new rodent!

And, just so you know, it (this blogger/bloggee relationship) is not one sided. I (for one) consider you my Bible teacher and sister (really more mother 'cause I'm your daughter's age LOL) in Christ. Thank you for all you give!

Hey Beth!

During our courting days my husband always sat beside me in a restaurant rather than across from me. He said it felt cozier that way and has continued to this in our married life whenever we go out to eat. A few days ago we drove to Williamsburg for the afternoon to do a little shopping and have dinner in Yorktown at a darling restaurant overlooking the York River. Upon approaching our table our waiter immediately took note of our sitting beside each other and said how very nice it was with a huge ole grin all over his face. He's the first person who's ever noticed and took the time to say something. Awwww! It made us feel great. When he left the table with our order my husband immediately turned to me and in anticipation of what I always say to him said "You don't have to tell me to leave him a really good tip cause he's so nice. I'm already planning on it." LOL!

Can't wait to read your new book. Bible study with the Houston Home Girls sounds like a blast! Y'all have a great time in the Word!

I love you,

*Your new book on women's insecurity sounds inspiring...I can't wait! "Breaking Free" has changed my life... PRAISE GOD!
*Prayers for a great weekend to all the Siestas and to you and your homies starting Tuesday Bible study... may God's holy presence knock your ya'alls socks off.

Now some randomness from me...you commented "I'd love to know one completely random thing from your life right now." ... my husband and I just sold our house; we didn't even get it officially on the market and it's in contract through word of mouth! This is "so GO" (God Ordained). We followed his lead to sell so we would not feel so "house poor" and be better stewards of His finances. Now we're waiting for our Lord to show us where He'll have us move (within Corpus Christi) as He provides our next home! What an adventure!

Blessing to you Mama Siesta, Beth!

Okay, random: My husband and I just moved to the Hampton Roads, VA area for his job (he's an Army Bandsman - pretty awesome job, for sure!)and tonight, despite the need to continue painting and unpacking, we treated ourselves to loading up our almost 1 year old into the baby backpack for a long walk on the beach. We've been really stressed with all the work involved in the move and it was so nice just to hold hands and walk and talk. Sweet time.

Sublime: God has been orchestrating things in the lives of my extended family to bring people from all stages of our lives together to help us with a current family crisis. Without getting into the details, God is amazing, His timing is perfect, and we are simply blown away by His grace.

CAN'T WAIT FOR FEBRUARY, Beth!!

OK, here's my random thing: Why it is that the ONE magazine I find dozens of wonderful things in is the one that is in the hospital waiting room? Then I have to go through the torment of either a) trying to write down every thing of note in that magazine; b) asking myself if it's wrong to take a donated magazine, if I bring in another one to take its place; and c) something tells me that it's just because I'm bored to tears sitting in the same place for 6 hours straight that I think it's the magazine of the century. Just sayin'. I sure hope y'all are having a lovely holiday weekend!

Tonight I made beef stroganoff for dinner. It is the recipe my grandma always made for me when she was alive - my favorite. When I take a bite I am transported right back to her kitchen stove, shaking the beef strips in flour - all in a brown paper bag (yes, flour was known to fly!). It as a great story to share with my children around the dinner table. It's getting easier. This time I didn't cry when I tasted the sauce.

Beth and family,
Have an awesome weekend of rest & fun yourselves. Congratulations,Beth, on finishing the book! I am among those who can't wait to read it. I am also VERY glad that Geli is going to be okay! I LOVE random posts. My man and I like to go grocery shopping together, too. Although our trips sound very mundane compared to yours. I liked the Walgreen's story that you shared at the Focus on Your Marriage conference, too. My man isn't into being silly, but we do like spending time together. God is still amazing me with little "happy" surprises this week. I think this is the first time that the "high" from a Spiritual weekend has followed me this long. I am ENJOYING it!
My silly moment comes at work. I have a co-worker who is easily riled up. We have gotten closer to eachother recently, and to cope with the craziness at work, we made up an amusement park in our minds. It is called Teri's World. We go there together when we work together. When she starts getting agitated, I tell her it's time to go on a ride. Our other co-workers think we have lost our ever-loving minds, but we have great fun! Sorry for the long post, but I have one more HUGE praise! We have been praying all day for my niece, Jennifer, and newest little great-niece,Rory. The doctors induced Jen at 4:30 this morning because little Rory is missing the wall between the 2 lower chambers of her heart. Rory Morrigan made her appearance at 5:10 tonight! She is just over 5 pounds, so when they release her in a couple days, she will go home with a heart monitor. The doctors are hoping that she can wait a couple months before she needs surgery, so she can gain a little weight. The praise is that she didn't need the surgery immediately after birth. Praise You, God! Okay, I'm done now, wait no I'm not. I just saw that my word verification is prehead, how funny is that? Okay, NOW I'm done.

My really random and mundane wasn't so mundane: Monday - I did the splits in front of Walmart, scraped my knee, my right buttock cramped and not a single person notice me trying to balance my baby carrier and limp into the store, NO ONE!!! I was a hot mess, until the Good Lord used that moment to show me how I'm my best for Him when I'm in my worst state of me. I met a woman who couldn't have children and shared with her how that same problem lead my husband and I to become foster parents and we are B-L-E-S-S-E-D... can you say impromptu, tear inducing, cry fest prayer session with a complete stranger in need of ministry?!

I killed a bug in my house today-all by myself- my screaming made the baby laugh.

I'm going to visit my parents for some sweet rest on the big front porch swing this weekend-AMEN!

Thanks for sharing your life with us Beth, we dearly love y'all!

Happy Weekend from Chicagoland! Today I took my three kids to a local farm where you can purchase a small cup of food pellets to feed the ducks at the duck pond. I took great care to explain to my kids (4, 2 1/2, 15 mo.) that they cannot hold out their hand with food in it or the ducks might bite their fingers. But rather they needed to toss the food into the pond or onto the ground near the ducks. So we get there any my 4 year old son, Jackson, Mr. Perfectionist, gets his cup of food and proceeds to throw the food in one teensy pellet at a time for a good ten minutes. Those poor hungry flocking ducks. My daughter Ellie, on the other hand, took my How to Feed the Ducks lesson quite literally...she had her cup of food all of three seconds before she flung the entire thing, PLASTIC CUP AND ALL, into the duck pond. I looked up to see if anyone noticed, and it was then that I saw a sign that said, "Please return your plastic cups to the counter." Oh, Lord have mercy, I laughed so hard!

Glad to hear you and Keith are still having so much fun...I've been married 7 whole years and hope to be just as happy after 30! Love you, Siesta Mama.

we are spending a quiet weekend together after a very busy week. I do hope you will share with us siestas what yall are learning in bible study.

Random fact about me: I absolutely must have some sort of "speaking voice" in the background while I'm going to sleep. As a child, it was fairy tales from records, as a pre-teen and straight thru college and into adulthood, it was audio tapes of "old time radio shows" (I like mysteries the best), and now it's podcasts. I listen to all sorts, including downloaded Bible studies, but my fav currently is podcasts about the hit show "Lost." I just can't get enough, and I most certainly have a hard time sleeping without the chat.

Beth, I know I as well as hundreds more on this blog feel the same way about you! How can someone feel so close to a blog partner I don't know, except the sisterhood of Christ...only explaination.

Random...
1. For at least 3 months, I have spent every extra day staining, lacquering, painting kitchen cabients as we remodel our kitchen. I feel like my life is slipping away or at least my summer did....am I EVER going to get done?

2. I did buy a new hair product that my sweety hair stylest recommended. This young lady is just younger than my daughter and I have know her all her life. We both lived in a small town when she was growing up. I moved to the big city 9 years ago and low and behold she moved here to and does my hair. I have most recently seen a major leap in her growth in the Lord. She has been a Christian for a very long time, but suddenly, she is wanting to know Him better. I see the next generation of sisterhood taking my place and it is so so sweet. (did I just add sublime with random?).

I love the Lord so much....He overwhelmes me....

Have a great weekend Beth and family....I will be painting cabinets...yeah.....

Here's a little randomness from my house: My dog's name is Riley. We jokingly say he's where the phrase "living the life of Riley" comes from, so I googled it and this is what it says:

"The phrase 'Living the life of Riley' suggests an ideal life of prosperity and contentment, possibly living on someone else's money, time or work. Rather than a negative freeloading or gold-digging aspect, it instead implies that someone is kept or advantaged."

Hmmm. Indeed. What's that? Your dogs are "Riley", too??

Here's something random. My 6 year old (who adores pink as much as you do) got a blister on her hand yesterday at school from swinging on the monkey bars. Yesterday evening while I was at Walmart my hubby guy called me to say she had just collided with the sidewalk and tore her knee and her elbow really bad. By the time I got home she was already asleep. This morning I was picking on her and telling her that she's fallin' to pieces. Tonight we were at the high school football game. She started making noise about wanting to go home. I asked her what was wrong. Without even a second to think about it she said, "Don't ya know... I'm fallin' to pieces!'

After 25 years, my BFF and I 'broke up' last year. It has been a devastating event for both our families. There are no winners when two women as close as sisters (who never fought) have a disagreement and end a beautiful friendship. There HAS to be reconciliation. Until then, I'm watching and looking for God in the waiting.

That said, throughout the course of the summer, 10 ladies joined me in the Esther Bible study. It was AMAZING. We call ourselves 'The Esther Girls'. Our lives will forever be changed. We all limped into the study broken and down trodden and emerged sisters in Christ...arms linked...ready to fight a good and Godly fight.

Oh, the beauty of it!

2) I've eaten cereal 2 nights in a row b/c my man has been gone. ..which means this woman has not cooked :)
3) It's been extremely quiet in my household tonight. The kind of quiet where the noise is so seemingly nonexistent that you can hear your own heart beat. I don't remember the last time I've had such stillness and I have treasured it.

So happy about the good news on Geli. I couldn't bear to go through that with you again.

So happy to hear about the book! It's too bad the release won't happen while we are celebrating in Houston in January....which brings me to my random news...

I bought my plane tickets yesterday for that little trip.(Scripture Memory Celebration) Flying first to Nashville to visit Adrienne (fuzzytop) who I just happened to have met through this blog and DEARLY LOVE! Then after a couple days of craziness in TN, we fly onto Houston!

Beth, I haven't been on an airplane in 25 years. Have things changed much? :)

Have a wonderful weekend. Tell Kevin and Ashley that the Siesta say Hi!

Thanks for all the laughs tonight -- I need them to fight back the sadness about my husband and his battle with mental illness. The battle spreads to our marriage, of course, and it's causing a lot of pain right now. I choose to delight in God, as was presented in Green Bay (thank you so much!).

Random -- our 13 year old walking through the house singing a praise song even though he knows his father hates to hear the name of Jesus. Maybe this is sublime -- it's definitely a God-sighting to encourage me!

So funny that you ask for random. We've been trying to sell our house for 6 months. Nobody has even looked at it. Today, a lady from Illinois (I'm in MS) came to look at it, saw my picture in the dining room and said, "Is that Anne?" She and I used to go to church together and I babysat her kids! So strange. I had asked about a million friends to be praying, so it just seems a little bit NOT random that God would bring about a situation like that. Now we're praying that she'll work out everything and buy it! What a day! Praise the Lord who cares about real estate and school districts and meets our every need.

Random? The only thing I can think of is that I went to a surprise birthday party for a friend and my husband didn't wait up for me. Not only that, he didn't take his phone to bed so that I could call him and let him know I was on my way home. Unfortunately tonight, I feel more like a roommate and less like a wife. I know it's not supposed to be that way, and I will work on it with him, I will talk to him about it tomorrow, but it still hurts right now. :(

Lets see.....something totally random....

Well I have to be up at 6AM tomorrow. For many of you it may not seem like a task, but I am a stay at home mom of two who does not get up until 7:30 or 8 and then I walk around in my pjs for a while! Tomorrow I have to be at my parent's church at 6:30 to help do hair and make up for one of the girls at their church. She is turning 15 and in hispanic tradition the parents host a huge ceremony and reception for their daughter....so I have to be there by 6:30, then come home and give the kids a bath, take a bath, get us all ready and hope and pray that my two year old will wear his tuxedo and walk down the isle.....pray for us!!

I have recently come to realize that my hair has much more volume if I wash and dry it the night before and then put a dab of baby powder on the roots first thing in the morning. I still use my straitening iron and rollers but the volume is twice as much this way compared to washing it in the morning. And it takes 15-20 min off my morning routine.

Love you so much!

Nothing trivial here I am working my last weekend as a 'single' houseparent to 4 teenage girls. I walk down the aisle in 7 days and become a wife. Everyone keeps asking if I am nervous. No just anxious to see my man staring back at me as I walk towards him down the aisle. I Love the grocery store story and I hope to have many like it!!!

We were out at my grandma's old farmstead today, checking on our renters and some repairs that need to be done. When we were in one of the buildings on the property my 3 1/2 year old son asked me what we had used it for back when his great-grandma was still alive. I mentioned that one thing we had used the building for was slaughtering chickens.

Well, he has never heard the word "slaughter" before in his little life (Praise God) so he thought I said "slobbering chickens" and he wanted to know why we were slobbering on the chickens. You can just imagine what was going through the mind of that child!

After I composed myself... I explained what slaughtering chickens was all about - that good old farm-fresh organic food and all. I probably won't look at chicken meat the same from now on though... :)

Yesterday was my birthday. I asked for and recieved a detailing on my car...it looks so shiny!!! Also, my husband bought two new toilets to put in our house and joked about them being part of my birthday present.

Last month our beloved year old kitten died. A misterious disease that even the vet could not figure out. But today, we took in a new kitten for his first vet checkup and joy has returned to our home along with the sweet sadness.

And finally, also for my birthday, we bought our son an electric guitar with amp and all the accessories (especially the headphones for almost silent practice, Thank you Jesus). He was so excited he told his friends that he got a guitar for his Mom's birthday. He even wanted to sleep with it. I call him my rock star now.

Beth, Amanda and Melissa, the only shortcomings in the closeness of our "friendship" is that we cannot hear each other's voices. But I do think of you all as dear sweet friends.

Here's something random... Went shopping today at a card store to find a birthday card for my mother-in-law. I love her! We have so much fun together and laugh and she gives me pep talks and advice (she too was a step-mama). She even started doing a coupel of Beth Moore studies and is so learning to enjoy in-depth Bible studies.

Anyway, at the card store, I could not find one birthday card for a m-i-l. Not even a mean one. Not-A-ONE. Are most mothers-in-law that bad? Apparently I am one blessed d-i-l!

Settled for a funny one.

Well, this certainly qualifies as random: I CANNOT WAIT for next Thursday, because one of my professors has invoked a long-dormant clause in his contract as the Hollis Chair of Theology, endowed in 1721, which states that he can graze his cow on Harvard Yard. I guess that was a serious perk in 1721. It lapsed out of use for a century or two but he is bringing it back, complete with a blessing by Peter Gomes, the on-campus minister.

I will be there taking photos. I can only imagine what the undergraduates will think. "No, kids, this is not a prank, this is official Harvard business."

Beth, I just read the responses to the "random" sharing- I loved the opportunity to anonymously share my random events today regarding my grown sons. That opportunity reconfirmed how much Divine intervention and progress have occurred over a long and trying(to say the least) 12 years- it was meaningful to me to share and not sure there would have been another safe format to share- I can't express how refreshing and fun it is to have someone like you who is truly interested in us as blog friends and sisters in Christ. I don't know any other teacher and minister like you.I have had the privilege to work closely with many amazing ministers of God. I can't imagine that you have the time to offer this to us- I have grown to love these Siesta ladies on the blog. Since I am 60, I feel a bit "protective" and Aunt like for the group- The memory verses have been "awesome" and the power of this memory process and listening for our unique words from God is most convicting.
Perserverance and speaking these out loud daily as I walk or before my contemplative time is a new practice for me- can't believe my "old girl" brain is holding these in my heart and mind so well- I live in Austin and plan to attend a few of the Revelation studies at lst Baptist- I have several Houston buddies and a tie to ST. John the Divine, plus always like to get a hair cut at Saks and try to get to Galveston to hear that gulf for a day-I'll send lots of Longhorn love from the audience. My husband is working and I am switching between bridge lesson reviews and your blog tonight- Have a fun trip and celebration- Lots of love and blessings to you and your loved ones, Sweet Dreams, An Aunt Siesta in Christ-

Learning an Italian song called Canto Della Terra in hopes to audition at the Opera in the Heights.

One night I was out with family friends and we were at an Italian Restaurant. My girlfriend kept telling me, "sing that Italian song you've song before: "O Mio Babbino Caro" (O My Beloved) which I had learned years ago when I took opera singing lessons. So I sang and it was fun. A few of the family members who like to joke around got up and I stood behind them singing while they were mouthing words. That was cute. Then, one of the guest that I know suggested I should audition at Opera in the Heights. Well, I sent a little bio and a picture and why I wanted to sing with the Opera in the Heights. Got the sheet music and will take some lessons. The journey will be fun. Bucket list.

Oh...to get rid of roaches...BORAX ACID.

I woke up the next morning to find them asleep in the dress, each one curled up in a bra cup.

I wish I were making this up.

P.S. - They're male puppies, obvs.

Hi Beth,

Here is my sublime week. Our pastor taught about getting right with our brothers and I asked God to lay those he wants me to reconcile with. He is faithful to do that! I love FaceBook because it allows me to find people and ask them for forgivness for what I did in my sinfullnes, yes even before I was a Christain and some after. Well I found some one who loved me and took care of me for years when I was in such and I mean SUCH darkness and I treated her like plan B. It feel so good to just say I am so sorry for the exact things I did and tell her how much I appreciate all she did for me. The Longer I know Jesus the more I see how much I need forgivness. I will never forget her tender kindness toward me when I needed it so much.

I am so grateful to be free from slavery to myself and one indication that I am free is that I did not have to cross the street to avoid any one today and that has not always been true. Praise God for the simple things He restores like not having to worry if there is a police car behind me or "what will become of me" being the main question I asked more times a day than anything! I know what will happen to me now, I have read Revelation and I want the fruit of repentence like Zacchaus.
Praise God for all His tender mercies and when I only the sun coming up as evidence of His faithfulness, it continued to rise.

Happy Labor Day!

Beth,
Love this. It is so fun to share what is going on with us and to hear your funny stories! Last night I took my 17 year old son shopping with me. He wants to try out a new look. Oh bother!!! (Could he try a different one? I don't think I like this one.) So since I have now lost 63.5 pounds and hasve just gone down my 5th pant size, I needed another opinion (I have been overweight so long that I gravitate to the fat clothes and they don't fit.) So he agreed to come and tell me if they looked good. He almost got kicked out of Wal-Mart not long ago for playing Hide-and-seek there for over an hour,.
Now just fun: I work in an elementary school and do recess duty with 5th graders. I want you to know this 54 year old knocked the socks off the 5th grade boys in Four-square today. They couldn't believe it. Then as I was waiting on a little 3rd graders mom he turned to me and smiles this impish grin and said "Ms. Witt you look really nice today." I just love 3rd graders!
Have a great time with the team this weekend. I am so ready for a break from school. I have to tell you August 31st I went to work and I could see smoke coming out of my mouth. It had dropped to 46 degrees that night. I'm afraid it might be a long winter.
Love you and still am flying high from the simulcast. Can't wait for the down load.

One Random Thing:
I have a tendency to talk back to my cat and both my dogs. I am sure they understand me, the cat is extremely sarcastic and somewhat condescending. This is especially annoying at around 6:00 a.m. when his internal alarm clock has gone off no matter what day it is. The dogs are much kinder, more loving, but as he(the cat) is condescending towards them too, it unfortunately puts me in the same boat as them! From this angle, your new book sounds fantastic- when does it come out? :) Can someone buy me one for Christmas? (other than the cat!) :) LOL!
Have a great weekend Lovely!

I think my trivial comment is that I survived my first two weeks of school in transition from my master of divinity into my master of social work. And the transition into technical full time employment at a residential facility for at risk youth. And somehow still had time to go celebrate one of my best friend's birthday's at Texas Roadhouse!! There's nothin like watchin your best friend saddle up and pitch her napkin across the room to say happy birthday with a group of friends! Thank you Lord for gettin me through all the assignments, loan issues, and complications with life and still showing me the pure joy in it all. Beth, do you ever feel like you've got so much on your plate that your mind just never settles because you've got somethin else on the way? But somehow it's still a blissful programmed moment by moment kind of life with the blessings of the Lord throughout?

My husband & I have been married 25years (together for 30), started dating when I was 15 and he was 17. Your grocery story event is the norm with us. Even at church, it is not uncommon for Keith (my husband's name too) to have his arm around me and then start poking his fingers in my ear! He loves to let me out at the bottom of our driveway for me to get the mail & then when I try to get back in the car, he scoots forward a little so I can't get in. He's a mess! He keeps me from being so serious.

Here's my One Random Thing. A couple hours ago I ended up ALONE on a Friday night - just me, myself, I and my cute-as-a-button Poogle (Beagle/Poodle). My husband is in Western Alaska on a moose hunt (and I just heard he indeed got a moose!!! Yay! Life is so much more fun when a hunter comes back with whatever he/she went out to hunt! Thanks Lord!); my daughter is at the State Fair marveling at a 127 lb. cabbage (it's a new world record); and both my boys are at the high school football game. So I grabbed me my most recent book - Founding Brothers (if you're a Revolutionary Generation history buff like yours truly, do yourself a favor and grab this splendid book), trotted down to a cafe and had me a little Schezuan (did I spell that right?) salad, coffee and read up on John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.

(My goodness. Can you tell I haven't talked out my "17,000 words per day"? Sorry Siestas to ramble so. I know you understand).

Enjoy the weekend,

Warm in Alaska.

Beth, I love your random posts and your deep ones too. No, it is not just you, we are that close, you're so humble, only you would wonder if we felt the same way!

It's a hair thang!

I have dark brown hair and I love the color of my hair with my fair skin and freckly nose. Fun fact: I never felt that way until I met my husband and he really loved that about me. I always wished for my mom's green eyes and thick light hair and my dad's dark completion. I felt so ugly growing-up with the combo, but I love it now. I have never had a desire to highlight, (GASP, I know). I always thought "I'm going to have to color it when it turns that other color, so why not enjoy it now?"

Then came May of '08, right before I moved here. I decided I wanted me some of those caramel streaks b/c my hair is curly and I can't do much with it. Can't go as short as I want sometimes and I'm forever getting layers. I straighten it and then curl it into loose natural looking curls, how random is that? Anyhow, I loved my new look and knew that is was temporary and that I would want to go back to my nat. color. I did not know Texas sun. I've lived in the deep south before, but I did not know Texas sun and I did not know hot until I moved here. The Texas sun would not allow my hair to go back to normal.

So, last week, I had it colored back to it's original state and I'm losing my little tan that I worked very hard to get. Won't do that again b/c it kills my skin, but it's hard to avoid here. Some more random, as soon as I got my nat. shade back, I did not want it. All of the sudden I wanted highlights. I needed a change! I just wanted the toned down sun-kissed, more blended, but a little streaky look. You know, so I could twist my hair up and have some contrast.

End of random stuff. My hair naturally grabs red highlights, but I wanted lighter brown/golden. I go and get my hair done and of course it looked perfect to me and two days later, red. So, I go back yesterday and pay to get it redone and some of it is the perfect color and some of it is brassy. I'm calling first thing in the morning. I'm determined to get that golden look. I bought the purple shampoo and everything.

Footnote: My hubby seriously pouted. He loves my hair so much and he was so happy that it was back to it's regular color. I said "Well, I got it back so I could highlight it again." Then, I thought about a comment Ruth Bell Graham made about "When to submit and when to outwit." I went on to tell him "Honey, what if I asked you not to use Rogaine and that I wanted your hair to be thin, would you listen to me?" He said "You would never want my hair to be thin." I said "Maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't..but that's not the point, women like to color their hair." He started on the other color issue thing too and I assured him that in today's art of hair technology, I would be able to keep my natural shade even when I get that other color. I won't look like Elvis. It did not help, he had a pitiful look, I felt so sorry for him I almost left it alone and then I thought "This is my hair." I need a change sometimes and besides a great new pair of boots, changing my hair is pure delight. I know since you're an expert on hair, you can sympathize with me.

Anyway, I love you and your girls. I have not been able to get on here much lately due to a lot of sickness, school, and HAIR STUFF! But, I can't stay away from my siesta's for too long. Thanks for letting me share, I needed to see a therapist this week about my hair, but I don't have time, jk.

P.S. Excuse my poor grammar in this post, I'm up doing laundry, and right now I have bigger fish to fry, like frying my hair some more..don't feel like proofreading and correcting (happy face).

I've been hanging onto them. Greg and I are the same way, I swear and the baggage brought into the marriage as well. This year has brought many changes, one having a daugther turn teen on us. Our oppostie personalities that used to be kind of fun, way back when, are starting to create challenges. Please pray for us. Just simply ask God to show us the way. That's the little prayer I need right now. I know that everything will be okay. We both know that divorce is harder than working at marriage b/c we almost got divorced 7 years ago. We were reared completely different, I'm a hopeless optimist, he's a pessimist (sp?) and every day perceptions have been totally out of whack. We are both feeling like we have to explain everything we mean. Well, enough of that. You know what I'm talking about. For a while there, I was having some dark thoughts, but God has yanked me up again and given me a new perspective. I'm praying that He will keep on and I know he will. Can't wait for your new book...I really need it. Also, I want to come to your Bible study so bad. I'm going to see if there is a way I can work it out. I live out in Katy, but when I go to school, it seems like it takes no time to pass your church. I'm really going to try b/c if I do it, I'm going to stick with it the whole way through. Okay, I've hogged the blog enough. I'm making up for not posting for so long!!

One random thing: always about my boys!
My 16 year old son has told me it's time He gets his hair cut at a salon. I've been cutting his hair for 16 years (and his 13 y.o. brother, and my husband) What started out as a money saving venture with my little munchkins kept on as a "you're the only one I trust" venture. But now he's growing up and thinks it's time to venture out. I have to say I'm relieved! The GOOD news is that he wants his hair cut!

My hubby and I took the boys shopping for school. Hubby had a HUGE problem with the boys wanting $80 skate shoes. I had to convince him that we were getting off easy, because they only wanted ONE pair of shoes, a few jeans, a few teeshirts. I KNOW parents of girls do NOT have it that good. I ran into a sweet young girl from church who was shopping at the same time, and she laughed at us. She had already spent $300 and wasn't close to done. I think it gave hubby some new perspective.

Hum, a random thing from my life: Right now this professor has gone back to school--as a student. I fly one weekend a month from St. Louis to MD!! And I thought I was done with being a student. God has a funny sense of humor!

Much love,

We are constantly amazed at the things our grandson says as he handles the intricasies of running a household with a mom, dad and two dogs.

They are headed to our lake house Saturday morning. On Monday we are all traveling to the beautiful North Carolina beach for a few days in a home offered by some dear friends. Hopefully we won't have too many storm type days!

Our precious grandson informed his parents that they needed to pack everything and put it in the car on Friday night so that they can get an early start on Saturday morning!

As I tell my husband of 33 years. It is all about setting expectations. Our grandson has made his clear. Get me to Granddaddy and don't waste any time.

Blessing for your weekend as you travel to the wedding.

I love random things. Today my husband had our carpets cleaned for my birthday! It turned out amazingly well. Dirt Free carpet is awesome!!! It was truly a miracle that all the stains from a 2 year old and 3 year old came out.

here's my random:

for the first time in my life (just turned 39 a couple weeks ago) I'm thinking about getting highlights or lowlights in my hair. (do you like the way I just threw out those terms? I have no CLUE what lowlights are... but I hear people talk about them favorably, so they must be a good thing)

I suddenly have about 30-40 gray hairs and am feeling the need to do something with my ever so plain brown hair.

but I'm scared. :)

Good Morning Beth! And ALL the LPL blog readers out there! This is the day the LORD has made! Something random but sublime...me and my husband and two children are moving to England next FRIDAY! My husband is in the US Navy and we are doing a two year tour over there. This girl here who is used to go-go-go is already preparing for God to meet me in a season where I will change pace a bit and see the world with a whole new pair of eyes. My husband, who left about a month ago to begin work says, "Honey, it's just different here, way more laid back." I'm not so much of a laid back person and have felt God saying for the past 6 months, "You want to be closer with me?, you and I are going to have a lot of time together in England." He has given me His supernatural peace about living there in this tiny little village, called Newton Tony (outside Salisbury). I am excited for what the LORD has in store for us! Beth, I so appreciate your candidness and humor and love for us, your sisters in Christ. You are such a mentor to me. Part of me has this small seed inside to teach/lead women's bible studies. I began my first ladies bible study this very summer and it changed my life. (We did your very own "A Heart Like His", David's study) I LOVED IT more than words can say! I have no idea FULLY what God's plan is for how He'll use this desire of my heart but I pray that I would hear His voice and follow Him. Thank you for being a role model for me.
Have a fabulous weekend! I know we look forward to hearing all about it!

In His most loving and merciful grip,
Cindy

Y'all are some of my best friends! Love you!!!

We have spent the past month focusing intently on preparation for a horse show. Our 8-year-old daughter will be showing next weekend in her 3rd horse show EVER!! This is BIG STUFF in our household---not sure it really qualifies as random. HA!! We're having a blast. We will be spending Labor Day making sure that beautiful palomino (blond) horse mane is coiffured just right, and the tack has to be coordinated just right. And most importantly of all, we will have to make sure the clothing, ribbons, and hair style plan for our beautiful, blond little girl matches the horse--(you got it, Siesta)--JUST RIGHT!! What a glorious weekend. Ain't God an amazing dude? How could life get any better than this? I CAN'T WAIT to get started!! Love you & hope you all have a great weekend!

A random thing... do you know how hard it is for me, the queen of randomness to list one thing?! LOL

Hmmm...I am house sitting for my sister because they left for the beach this morning and I am a tad jealous. ;) I am also babysitting her grandson all week while they are gone and he is precious! Along with that, I am celebrating my 45th b'day which happens to fall on Labor Day and I was also born on Labor Day. Okay, I am done, I promise. :)
Much love,

Beth, I am so glad Geli is ok. I was worried about her and y'all. My sweet Opie, who just passed after 16 years with us, ate half a bag of ant killer when he was a puppy. I just knew he was a gonner, but he kept on kicking. Sometimes those eaters end up being tough ones.

I sooo wish I lived near Houston, because I would study Revelation with you on Tuesday nights. That study is so timely.

Blessings to the newlyweds! Praying for a healthy long marriage for them!

(BTW, I did get my hair razored, but didn't lose any length.)

This post was written on a very special day for me. It would have been my dad's 90th birthday. He has been in heaven for nearly ten years. Though I miss him dearly I know is s celebrating far more than a birthday he is celebrating his salvation and gazing upon the One who made eternal life a reality. What a comforting thought to know that one day when I see my heavenly Father I will be reunited with my beloved earthly father as well. God you are the best!
Have a great weekend Siestas!

It's not your imagination, Beth. This is a close-knit community! And in fact, friendship has been on my mind this week. Melana (Moose Mama) sent me the sweetest email yesterday, reminding me just how precious our friendship is. She has blessed me so much aand I am forever grateful we met through this blog. And yet in the same week, my 12-year old daughter was absolutely crushed when her best friend at school abandoned her to join a team with some other girls for a major school event, leaving my daughter alone without a team. I am so steamed about the whole thing.

OK something totally random....

This is something that perhaps the siestas can help me with! I must have either very sloping or very slick shoulders, because I have the worst time with bra straps always sliding off my shoulders. Drives me crazy! Ages ago I remember seeing a commercial or ad for a bra with straps that stay put, and I cannot remember the "make and model" (ha ha) of said bra. If anyone could let me know, I'd be thrilled. Seriously.

Love,
Adrienne

P.S. A big WaHooJah! on completing the book....

We are currently babysitting our twin niece and nephew (3 years old) and their 110 lb shepherd that is the sister dog to our 90 lb one. Randomly typing while all 4 kids (mine are 12 and 10)and dogs are watching Curious George. Ha. Hubby left at 6:30 this morning to run 20 miles as he is training for the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 11. Have no idea what the plan is for the day; "random" probably wouldn't be a good idea. Curious George is over in about...now! I'd better get a plan!

We buy White Cloud.....15 rolls per pack and more sheets per roll than any other tissue. My daughter figured this out one day. The 15 roll per pack is $5.50at Walmart....:)

We in No MI are finally having some summer weather. High 70's low 80's during the day and cool nights.....40's and sometimes below. Some areas had frost last week. Great for apples!!!!!!!!!

Trivia done....have a blessed weekend and try and get some rest.

I just wrote this story on my blog, because I thought it was kind of funny. My 4-yr-old daughter was singing a song while sitting in my lap, and I started mouthing the words along with her while my mom watched. My mom just stood there looking at me with a strange expression on her face; when the song was over she told me "That was funny. I just watched you sing a song, but it was your 4-yr-old voice singing it!" My daughter sounds so much like I did when I was little that it was not hard for my mom to imagine that it was really me singing it! It must have been kind of a "deja vu" moment for her!

Enjoying coffee while reading through these posts...:)

I tried a new conditioner skinny and shiny or something like that...it makes me think of the Skinny and Sweet sweetener found in the movie 9-5.... when Lily Tomlin's character holds up the package of rat poison and says it looks just like the box of Skinny and Sweet, except for the little skull and crossbones... :) You'd have to have seen the movie to get it...
Anyway my daughters have been telling me that my hair is too frizzy so I tried this and they gave it a thumbs up on the results.

Very light indeed on the bible study topic!!! (I hope it goes to dvd...please!)

This is such a great place!

Love in Christ,

My comment combines random and sublime. This evening, for the first time, I am going to try Swing/ ballroom dancing. I am going to this event with my sister. The same sister with whom I visited the Holy Land earlier this year and attended the simulcast last weekend. So sublime to have a biological sister as my dearest friend.

I am so blessed to see my siestas out there.

My random - my husband and I have been married for 13 years, and we can still get downright silly together. Our "date night" every week is Taco Bell and our movie from Netflix. Last night we watched Animal Crackers (starring the Marx Brothers), and by the end of it, we were sitting together on the floor and laughing our butts off.

My sublime - I was our church's simulcast coordinator. I really wanted this to be an event beyond just OUR church--I prayed that it would be about the women of God coming together across all those man-made boundaries. Friday night, as I welcomed them, I looked around and realized we were WAY outnumbered, which was AWESOME! And then I got to sit down, and God answered my prayer to be able to lay Martha aside and just be Mary at Jesus' feet during the sessions.

Yesterday, after coming home from a very long and tiring week of getting my classroom ready for a new crop of first graders, I was so tired that when my dear friend called to check up on me, I had a 15 minute conversation with her with the cordless phone upside down! I kept thinking, "why is she talking so quietly?" but I never said anything. When we finished talking and I went to put the phone back in the cradle, I realized it had been upside down. I immediately called her back and we had a very good laugh! That's pretty random. But you asked for it. Have a great weekend!

I learned this week that Psalm 37 (which even before the simulcast had sparked a spiritual renewal in my life) was also key to bringing my dad back to the Lord almost 40 years ago, and has also been a key passage for his mother. So it is a heart passage for three generations of my family! Praise God!

Beth,
All the girls in our Thursday night Bible study think of you as our best friend. Thank you for making us feel that way!
We have all ages from 17-79 in our group. what a blessing.
During the Stepping Up study we were talking about Heaven. Some of our older ladies were talking about having lived a good long life and they were ready to go see Jesus and loved ones who are already there. One lady named Gladys paused for a moment and then said,"but I sure would like to live long enough to do one more Beth Moore study!" How exciting to be nearly 80 and still excited about learning more about Jesus and His Word! On th 4th of July Gladys told me that she sure would love to see you in person at an LPL, so imagine her excitement when she found out you will be in Lexington next August. She came to me at church and said "O.K. now you girls pray that I live until next Aug.!" We have our tickets already and can't wait to see you there! Thank you for your obedience to the Lord. Your ministry has been life changing for us all!
