My man just cleaned out the garage. I'm so inspired. I'm going to clean out my purse.

Wrote in marker on my hand last night trying to memorize part of my bible study. It was Blessed, Chosen, Adopted, Accepted, Redeemed and Forgiven. I woke up with it on my face this morning and I can't clean it OFF. It's really trying to sink into my brain.

LOL! You crack me up!
My man is constantly cleaning out and straigtening up stuff - makes me nuts! (but I love him BIG TIME!) I just have to have my 'organized' messes....my office always looks like the photos of yours....but hey, I know where everything is. :)
Bless Keith and all the men who like a clean gargage- more power to 'em. Just stay out of my office. :)

OH GIRL..good luck to you...I will be praying the Lord's strength for you. This is quite an undertaking...if you need to take the rest of the day off, I give you full permission. :) Have your people call my people..

There's no telling how many teaching stories will come out of there ;)

If your purse is like mine, don't you think you should start with something smaller? I mean, he only cleaned out the garage. It's not like he brought peace to the middle east or anything. It's a garage, Beth. a garage.

Well, that sounds like a good idea, Beth. Do ya think that you could manage to scale down to, maybe, TWO shades of pink lipstick instead of SIX?! (saying it LOUD FOR YOU TO HEAR)

I'm reading "Get Out of that Pit" and all I can do is LOL! I've been a little scared, but NOT AS SCARED AS I WAS READING "WHEN GODLY PEOPLE DO UNGODLY THINGS".
Hey, we have an ihop right around the corner from my house and a starbucks right across the street from that. Wanna go? :)

love you in Oregon,
Kristi
And thanks for sharing with us that you are cleaning out your purse!

My so strong willed daughter that you haven't met, but could give Melissa a run for her money is having a FIT so I gotta go! PLEASE PRAY FOR ME!

I'm cleaning out my car right now. Noooo I don't have a computer in my car, I just came in and walked by the computer and realized I'm addicted to your blog and had to check it:) And you just inspired me to clean out my purse next. How is it that no matter how compact and "perfect" of a purse you have, you know the one with all the right compartments and just enough room so that I can't shove everything under the sun into it, that you manage to completely shove everything and then some into it!?!
Well at least I do...

I got such a chuckle when I read your "Inspired". I could just hear you saying it, dry, but with a smile. My purse is usually organized, but when it gets "full of life"- receipts, notes, lists, etc., I enjoy reliving those special moments. I am blessed through those experiences most of the time. Yet I watch my husband, Keith, clean out his wallet and it is pure misery for him. What a difference! He tosses and throws and crumbles and rips, and I ... don't. I look at a receipt and loving remember a meal with my sisters or mom, or a date night receipt with my husband. Oh the differences... Should I keep something I find in my purse as a souvenir? Oh life, God has certainly blessed us...

You crack me up, Beth! Thanks for being so real. Love how you teach and what you are doing for the Lord! Praying for you and LP to faithfully stay in tune to HIM for who you are, all you do and what you say. Love you!

I am glad to know I am not the only one that struggles with this! I could have a garage sale out of mine. LOL

:) Go Keith!
How long did it take him to clean the garage & did he get rid of stuff? Or did he just re-arrange it?

How long will it take you to clean out your purse...or will you just re-arrange it! LOL!

Have fun and speaking of inspired... I finished reading Get Out of That Pit a couple of weeks ago and I believe I have finally gotten it! I have been praying the scripture prayers in the back of the book and God has made 2Tim 1:7 real to me...He has given me a spirit of self-control. You see, my big problem is with eating and self-image. He has also made 1John 1:9 real to me...He is faithful and just to forgive me. Thank you so much for writing this book and making it so real. It's great to see how very real you are, Beth. Please pray for me. You mean the world to me even though we have never met. GOD IS SO GOOD.

Blogging beasts? Oh my gosh, y'all are hilarious. My job has never been more fun. My hubby amazed me by cleaning out the fridge and pantry, so I got inspired and cleaned out my closet, which is the size of a locker. It was constantly overflowing into our room. I feel so much better now! I am with whoever said she looks at her receipts and thinks of the lovely dinner she had with so and so. Maybe we should start making receipt scrapbooks.

Beth and fellow beloved ladies of the disorganized purse society:
So, I LOVE to clean. I mean - LOVE it. I mean I love the smell of some good ole' Pledge and Windex and there's nothing like a vacuum cleaner. (Thought to self while typing that: Wow - you're really weird - just embrace it poor thing). HOWEVER, I cannot manage to keep a clean purse for the life of me! I keep those kind that are like the size of a small suitcase you know, so when the cell phone rings, I'm just thankful I have voice mail b/c I'm probably not going to find it in the chaos of pens/highlighters, church bulletins, gum, (hmm - there's that piece of candy I was looking for), to-do lists (mind you if they're in my purse, there's not much getting done there!), a water bottle, an orange, my iPod (for all of your jam out to Jesus necessities and indirect cause of invoking strange looks from other students walking on campus wondering why you're nodding, smiling, and trying not to hand raise too bad), small bible (cannot leave home without it), make-up (never being able to find my lip gloss when I need it), gloves, sunglasses, camera (b/c you just never know when a Kodak moment will arrive), my petite bottle of perfume (not really sure why it's there), and unfortunately, more... I'm going to need a divine moment of grace to organize it! I thought that we could just bless one another with those disorganized purses, because you just never know when another sister might need something that you just happen to have! I love you girls!

Laughing, bcs. my SISTA Muffin made me. Hoping that she only walks around like that until it sinks into her heart that she IS Blessed, Chosen, Adopted, Accepted, Redeemed and Forgiven; then the marker will fade.

Ms Beth, how about your wood floor? Is is still bearing witness of the Daniel poster?

Cleaning out the purse....it's funny because my purse isn't all that big, but at baby and bridal showers I seem to always win the Purse Scavenger Hunt....my funniest find recently was a pacifier! My "baby" is 6 1/2 years old...the girlfriend I was with said "WHY DO YOU HAVE A PACIFIER in your purse?" "Clean it out for heaven's sake!" Well, it just so happens I had been babysitting, and apparently someone hid the baby's paci in my purse so that she couldn't find it :) But it definiitely made for some interesting conversation.

Oldest receipt found in my purse? From January 2000...my receipt for my Dr.s appt when I found out I was pregnant with our youngest......"oddest" thing in my purse? aforementioned "paci" when my BABY is 6 1/2 years old! :) Funnest thing in my purse? crayons and mini-coloring book and puzzle book.

I think of my purses as scrapbooks. I don't really clean them out. I change purses. Months later when I go back to use the other purse I can look in and see what was up back months ago. I keep all kinds of stuff. I recently found a sample of a decongestant and it sure came in handy.

I'd rather stick my head in the oven than clean a garage or my purse....truth is I don't have a garage and I cleaned my purse out a week or so ago because I could not find 1 tiny little piece of paper with some very important information on it - I had no choice.
And truth is I wouldn't PREFER to clean my oven but it's a necessity since I'm in the midst of moving!
I'm trying to relate this phsyical move with the spiritual move that is also going on. As I move out of this house I'm also moving out of this pit!
I've lived in this town for over 25 years - I've lived in this pit for only a few years more. Before I can leave this house I have to clean out all of the yucky stuff like the oven and under the beds, all the way to the back of the closets, behind the washer and even behind the toilets! In my heart I have to open up and clean out all of those dark places as well. I'll let the "movers" unload the stuff in my house as Jesus unloads the stuff in my heart and then I'm moving on to another state - literally - physically - spiritually!!!

:)

Hi Beth and Amanda!

I'm really enjoying your blog. Let me tell you, once you are on BooMama's blog, you have major blog traffic! I am still getting visits from her blog for being in a Christmas home tour she had!

I am doing my first official Beth Moore Bible study....the book of Daniel. Our group LOVES it! We are doing chapter 8 this week. We are learning so much, loving the deep Bible study and history lessons! Thank you so much for all the work you do to write those and to teach them on the DVDs....it is a powerful ministry God has gifted you with! You inspired us all to dig deeper into God's Word and be women of richer, deeper faith.

Your way of speaking and teaching makes women feel like we know you as a friend, and it is a blessing to be a sista with you in blogittyville now too! It's like having an old friend who suddenly becomes a blogger that you can catch up with each day. Thank you for sharing so much with us!

That reminds me of one of the bible study nights when you were going to bring up your purse to use as an illistration...

But, then you continued to say that that wasn't such a good idea.

You said that the purse resembles your life.(In which then you made a face, like, oh no!) If that is the case, then I am in SERIOUS trouble!! :0)

Have fun!

Salty Sister, that's usually the only time my purse gets cleaned out. I did get ambitious yesterday and actually went through about 10 receipts. :) And no, my husband doesn't understand. He also doesn't understand why I can't keep my vehicle up to his clean, so clean, (as in not even a trash bag to put trash in - you take it when you get out, what is up with that?) and I try to explain to him that any normal mother with a child is going to have the same disorganization. He countered with one name and I countered with "most NORMAL mothers have the same mess" then I felt it best to change the subject. You SISTAS are so cool. You keep me laughing!

At February 8, 2007 at 2:29 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I laughed at the one who said "just change purses" because that is exactly what I was thinking. Why clean? Just go shopping and get another purse. I am truly a "bag lady"!!!!!

Oh my not cleaning out the purse! My purse is a disaster. I clean it out but a few days later, messy again. I think it is from all the Wal Mart receipts. I lost my cell phone (in my purse) and had to dump out the entire purse to find it, found some other things I had been looking for. I have been thinking of doing spring cleaning around the house. My home and garage for that matter has to clean. I guess I will start with my purse and work from there!

amy t,
I love the whole description of the his/her vehicles! My little girl always brags on how clean and neat her daddys truck is. I have to have verbal restraint.

I was so proud of myself for having a walmart sack in my car today. I let Mary use it to throw up in today. Poor thing has the flu.

Things like that never happen in the truck....and in a few days she will tell her daddy how clean his truck is.

I think of my purse as a timeline.

All the stuff in there tells a story of the last several weeks/months.

Right now I have been toting around a handy vera bradley tote for school stuff. Inside deeply tucked away is my gauze I used for my cpr/first aid course. I keep thinking I will use it to let the kids in my class play "emergency first aid".
