OK, Here's What I Used It For

Thanks for having such a stinking blast with us over that ridiculous celebrity look-alike thing. You guys made me laugh until I nearly choked and threw up in my mouth. Here's what it was about: I was teaching what I consider to be a pretty profound truth out of Proverbs 14:10. It says "Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy." Scripture doesn't contradict Scripture so, needless to say, it doesn't mean we can't sympathize and even empathize with one another and bear each other's burden. In fact, we are commanded to do exactly that. We're told to laugh with those who laugh and weep with those who weep. (Romans 12:15)

In Proverbs 14:10, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Solomon was giving us insight into something we've all experienced but perhaps never quite understood. Two women of exactly the same spiritual maturity, marital status and age can get the same diagnosis and their hearts process it in completely different ways. Two believing women with nearly identical circumstances could have miscarriages at exactly the same point in a pregnancy and yet respond to it as polar opposites. Two women can make exactly the same salary and be exactly the same age and go to exactly the same church and have exactly the same friends yet respond to their singleness at 38 years of age profoundly differently. The point of the look-alike illustration is that we could Google every single bit of our physiological and psychological data, life traumas and challenges and perhaps come up a dozen other Americans that should match us then meet for lunch, hash it all out, and walk to our cars thinking, "I don't even think SHE gets me." And you'd probably be right. You see, somebody may have all your same circumstances but nobody has your heart. It is completely singled out before the One who formed it in His hands and said, "Let there be life." And there was.

If we're blessed indeed, we can find people who can relate but the more we come to know them, the more we'd see our differences and only be left with a deeper sense of isolation. There is ONE who totally gets you. Just one. Yes, we need human support. And, yes, hearts were created to be shared horizontally as well as vertically but no one can see into the grand canyon of your emotional being but God. That's why we'll never be okay if, in our deepest, most riveting hurts, we do not turn to Him and let Him completely and intimately tend to us. I am a firm believer in Godly counseling but the best of counselors should point you to the only One who is still there at 3:00 AM when you toss and turn and think you may not live till morning. St. Augustine described God as "interior intimo meo." Deeper in me than I am in myself. God gets you when YOU don't even get you. He doesn't just love you. He loves your heart. Your broken, misshapen, road-weary heart. And mine. Let Him in. Let Him tend. There is SomeOne who really does understand. He is the Lord who heals us.

Truth! Truth!
Thank God for the insights He gives you, Beth. Jesus is truly the freedom-giver--if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed. I'm so glad He knows us and cares enough to change us. Keep on talking, Sister.

This truth and many others that you taught on the weekend resonated deeply with many of us. Sometimes we think we're going crazy inside when we try to work things out on our own strength....what a timely reminder that only He gets it. The best part is that despite ourselves, He is still crazy about us. I had such a blast at the conference with three of my best buddies...we loved all of it. The worship was amazing and "Annie's Song" will never be the same again...brings tears every time. So looking foreward to seeing you again in Vancouver...this time we'll bring a few hundred friends along. Bless you, bless you our dear sister.

Dear Beth,

Thank you for this past weekend in Seattle and this most recent post. The isolated heart was what I have been dealing with for the past month. Praise God that your words spoke directly to me related to my situation. I know that they were right from my Father.

My sister and I traveled from Great Falls, Montana to see you and we were blessed. You are our Spiritual Mother and we love you deeply. The anxious heart is what she deals with on a continual basis. She was even afraid to fly from Montana to Washington. But when you said that God takes us out of our comfort zones it pierced her in a good way. Thank you for bringing Keith. What he said about "taking his authority as the spiritual leader, not because he deserves it, but because it is his God given right" was awesome! That spoke to every woman that was with us.

I pray that through all of your ministry you will hear the heart of God and continue in your obedience to Him.

Love and prayers,

Jenni Leach

That is so true! At the end of the day the only thing that matters is that God gets us and loves us! I had a day yesterday when I was at the end of my rope. I was crying out to God for help. I talked it out with a friend but all she could do was say, I know. I understand her comment, sometimes we can't say anything other than to support each other and believe God together that He will work all things out and bring the deliverance we need. I needed to hear that Beth because I am facing 4 different battles at the same time and I am worn out. I am being honest, worn out! (from groaning and crying) My comfort is that God hears when his children cry out to him and he has the perfect entrance planned to enter into my problems and needs and bring calm to his child!
Love,
Patty

This truth that you spoke last Tuesday night at bible study has hit me probably more than anything that God has given you before. Ever since, and including this morning, God has incorporated issues with the heart into our time together. He won't let it go until I completely take hold of it. God is so good!

Such truth! I went through a miscarriage in December 2005. I was surprised at how many people have been through the same. I was also shocked at how many acted as if it was no big deal, and I felt like the thing was going to kill me! It was a HUGE deal for me! God and I are still working through it, and I'm still believing Him for a child even though it's been over a year.

Thanks Beth! I'll see you in Shreveport in March!

How cool Beth, I am always taken back with how God goes to great lenghts for us to get Him. I have been feeling alittle insecure lately intellectually and He said very firmly to me this morning, its your heart I'm using don't worry about it. He totally rocks!

Just had another thought about something that hit me this weekend that I think we can all hear. We loved meeting and hearing from Keith....that was a nice treat. The only caution in my heart though was that I hoped we didn't leave with comparison or discontent with the mate that God has blessed us with. Everybody is on their own journey with God and will have a relationship with God that is uniquely theirs. Our relationship will never look like somebody else's nor should it. I should not hope that my husband will one day act like Keith. We should never hope or wish that our spouses did this or that or would one day become a certain way. Comparison shopping in this instance is a deadly venture. Let's love our mates to death for who they are and celebrate who God has created them to be...of course praying always that they would come to know and love God deeper, and become more like HIM, just as we desire this for ourselves. God bless.

Speaking of God tending to our hearts. I think one of my biggest struggles at times has been to accept God's forgiveness and believe it! I have carried around my "Praying God's Word" book and cards around for a while on that topic. Anyway, yesterday I was reading Isa 55 about God's pardon and something I read just went straight to my heart: Isa. 55:7 "7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon." The word for pardon in the verse is salah and here is what it said in the key word study Bible about the word pardon: "to forgive, pardon, spare...salah is never used on a human level, with people forgiving one another." In other words there is a type of tending to our hearts that only God can do! He is the one who can forgive us completely...He is not like man! With Him is abundant pardon. Oh if we would only believe Him and accept His forgiveness and move on!
No matter what we have done we can come to Him, repent and He will have great mercy and pardon on us. I need to know that! Thanks for the word on the need to bring our hearts to the only one who can bind up the broken pieces!

Beth, I purchased "Get Out of That Pit" and it is already the answer to much prayer. I remember in Oklahoma City when you told the story about waking Melissa and how she had you join her instead. That weekend was all about trust and oh, what a profound impact that made on my walk with God. I had finally found so much of what was lacking in my relationship with Him. When I was a child, my father exited our family and left my mom with 3 children to raise by herself. I was 9 months old. For all these years I've constantly been in and out of the pit in one way or another and finally, through this book, I realize that being out permanently is a reality. You have no idea (yes, you probably do, I know) how many resources I've used to attempt to find resolve in this area. I knew I was in and out of the cycles but could not pinpoint the reasons why. I wanted to be out so badly, but the "how to" was missing. I knew that God was truly the only resource to resolution, but didn’t know how to practice that truth. Then, I began chapter 5. Oh, praise His name that He has guided you to write this book to bring so many souls into complete wholeness. This book reminds me of those 2 songs, “You Never Let Go” by Matt Redman and "I Am Free" by the Newsboys. Yes, we can all be free indeed.

I just LOVE it how God gets us all! Most of the time, I know that my husbands "gets" me, but those times that he doesn't, it is so reassuring that God does. (believe me, I'm pretty hard to get). Since you mentioned a verse from Proverbs today, I just had to share with you my husband's "new favorite verse." It comes from one of those times when you're reading along in the Bible and a verse appears as if from nowhere...you know, you probably read it hundreds of times, but never "seen" it. Well, he is schedule to return to Iraq later this year (after spending a year there already and coming home this past Sept). The verse is Proverbs 21:19 (NIV). *Tis better to live in the desert, than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.* I love that God has pointed us to this as a way of giggling together when I am less than pleasant and making this second deployment in as many years a little more tolerable.

Keep up with what you're doing, Beth. You have a wonderful gift.

"Do you love me?" "Do you understand me?" Thank you for reminding me to stop looking around and start looking up. I just want to be known. Truly. And loved still. Don't we all? I am so glad sister Beth for the things we have in common AND for the things that make us different. How boring would cookie cutter women be. That goes for all my sisters. Have a great day. beth-truth. i love it! interesting when you don't recognize your own self portait. see, it was my senior year back in 1989 and our art assignment was simple. a poster size piece of white paper, a tray of oil chalks and a mirror. i completed the project and added it to my portfolio. the Lord showed me my self portrait years later. i never saw before what i was shown that day. prov.14:10 was put on paper my senior year. i thought i had it well covered but it came out on paper. what blew me away was when i saw your book on the pit. ps 40 is covered in yellow highlighter in my bible. i look forwarding to reading it. internally i lived in that pit for eight years. today i have the portrait framed. it is titled "he lifted me" it's pretty amazing what He shows you when you have a relationship with Him. i guess what is so amazing about the picture is the details of the pit. maybe i'll drop you a (tiny) copy in the snail mail someday. one thing i love about it is i never signed it. the Lord told me He already knows whose in the pit-i didn't need to name her. the Lord has used it a few times-i know He's not done with the picture yet and thats ok. it's not my work it's His anyway.
bless you beth and your family! stopped and prayed for you monday eve col 1 vs 6,9-14

Mrs. Moore,

Thank you so much for sharing God with us in such a profound way! God is THE ONE that does get me! And He has continued to prove Himself faithful over and over to me. My father was abusive and had been out of my life from the time I was 7 years old.....he died when I was 22 (the day after I had forgiven him for the abuse) and I hadn't seen him or talked to him in 15 years. My mother abandoned me because of my faith in Christ 6 years ago (when I was 32 years old and had just given birth to my 4th child/her 4th grandchild). The one constant "parent" that I've had is my Abba Father....my heavenly Daddy! I disappoint Him just like my earthly parents, but He still loves me and "gets me".....even my own husband who has been my best friend and the love of my life for over 17 years now (we just celebrated our 17th anniversary last weekend) doesn't always "get me".....my daughter that is just like me "doesn't get me"....but my Abba Father surely "gets me!".

Thank you, once again, Mrs. Moore for this reminder! And thank you for being ever-faithful to the Lord's leading in your life!

Your studies and books have really taught me a lot in my journey as a Child of God.

Priase His Name, He gets us when so much of the time we feel as if everyone else around us has checked out!! Thank you, Beth for this teaching. I needed it especially today. Not so long ago my 16 (then 15) year old niece told my sister, "See mom, Aunt Cindy is the only one who gets me!" Just between us I really don't, but I love that she thinks I do.HA! I love her. Beth, during times when I don't even know my own self, I like you, have to fall face down before Him with praise and thanksgiving and then get up and walk away dizzy at the wonder of it all. You have taught me and touched me so. My 3 month old granddaughter went to her first Beth Moore study last week, Believing God. I pray she always will. Thank you for giving of your self to so many that we may come to know freedom and truth in Christ in a way that we may not have known otherwise. You add such honesty, fun, silliness, joy and happiness. I know God is smiling on it all. We all need that!! Can't wait to see you in Tyler.

Beth, you have NO idea what that meant to me this weekend. Let me see if I can sort of get you to understand how God met me there in Seattle. You know when you told the story of when you were hurt over that guy asking you why you limit God the way you do in your ministry and then when he had you go up and sit in a chair and he had you prayed over, and then, a few days later, Kay Arthur looked at you, pointed at you and said "I WILL NOT FAIL YOU!"? THAT was how BLOWN AWAY I was. I came desperate for a word and honestly didn't think that God would come through for me in such a HUGE way. To tell you the truth, I didn't think that He'd come through for me at all. I also came wanting God to do a "now work" and HE DID! I'm serious when I say I've NEVER NEVER NEVER felt like God was speaking DIRECTLY to me and in my estimation, nobody else in the room mattered at the time. What you don't know is that I had been saying out loud to friends and to God. "WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? THIS IS SOOOOOOOO STUPID! THIS SHOULDN'T BE AFFECTING ME SOOOOOO MUCH, BUT IT IS! WHAT IS MY PROBLEM? I CAN REASON THIS WHOLE THING OUT IN MY MIND, BUT MY HEART JUST WON'T FOLLOW MY MIND!" I sat and BAWLED through the entire 2nd session. I have NEVER cried hearing you speak. NEVER! And if I could make that word "never" any bigger, I would. It was almost like you interviewed me before the conference and said, "ok, kristi, what are you going through at this particular time in your life? I want to speak on that." Try to get this with me. My jaw is STILL wide open and my chin is STILL on the floor. I've NEVER had such a personal word from God and I've NEVER felt the presence of His Holy Spirit EVER before like I did this weekend. There's WAY more, like the fact that I've been complaining to God that He's taken me to the book of Proverbs alot lately and it's my LEAST favorite book of the Bible. I told my friends, "watch she's gonna teach out of Proverbs. You just watch." We all laughed when you said "I wonder if you would open your Bibles with me to the book of Proverbs." It's now becoming one of my favorite books. HMMMMMMM! Go figure!

One more thing, I was at a friend's house today and saw a picture on her wall that I'm going to send to you. It's a cartoon of about four guys laughing HYSTERICLY out loud, mouths wide open and heads thrown back. At the bottom of the picture it says
"GOD CAN'T DO WHAT?!" Thanks for sharing that again with us. I need that reminder often.

Hi Beth,

I just wanted to thank you so much for choosing to say out loud at the conference tonight that you had read my letter to you - 'every word'. It touched me more deeply than you can imagine. To know that you had read all the things I wanted you to know, will stay deep inside of me forever. 5,000 women there, and you mentioned my letter. How great is God? He just lavishes me in His love so often in so many ways and this was one of His biggest. I said to my friend, 'Talk about having a stinkin' burning bush right in your back yard! Wow. Thanks for allowing Him to do such a great work for me through you.

Dear Beth,
Thank you for reminding us that there truly is that Special Someone, who gets us, any time and any place our hearts may go. Something you talk about in The Patriarchs at the end of week six that has stuck to me like glue, when I am worn out and road weary in my heart, and feel like I just can't last another day is
Revelations 2:17; He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. TO HIM WHO OVERCOMES, I WILL GIVE SOME OF THE HIDDEN MANNA. I WILL ALSO GIVE HIM A WHITE STONE WITH A NEW NAME WRITTEN ON IT, KNOWN ONLY TO HIM WHO RECIEVES IT. So to me, what that means, is no matter who I connect with, no matter who knows me through and through, wether it be my husband, my girlfriends, or someone else, Jesus is the ONLY ONE who knows every single trial, hurt, pain that has been caused to me, or pain I have caused, the tears I have cried, and also all the joy and blessings I have experienced in my life. And when He hands me that white stone, it is going to have a name on it, just for me, that will only mean something to ME...not anyone else. Thats why Proverbs 14:10 is so meaningful to me, because Jesus has shared every single bit of that with me. And IF I overcome, He will give me hidden manna, and a white rock with my own special name on it...WHEW...Girls, I have goosebumps just waiting for that Rock!!! LOL...I know that this scripture has reminded me that there is someone who GETS me...And He is the One who helps me to overcome daily. Beth, you have taught me so much, and I am always saying, "Beth Moore says..." But really I know that it is the Word of God penetrating deep into my soul and becoming such a part of me that I Believe It..and I LIVE it. I love this blog. I love getting to know all of the ladies who post. And I am blessed to get to have a way to be your friend Beth. I probably won't ever get to move to Texas as your next door neighbor, so this is the next best thing I guess!!! LOL...
Much love,
God Bless all of you,
Gayle Ann

I love how the Lord works! He used you at the perfect moment - not that I should be surprised!

I am so bad about running to all of my "advice givers" with my problems before I hit my knees and pray about it. Don't get me wrong, the people I seek counsel from are good, godly people...but they are just that - PEOPLE. I love what you said about God getting us even when we don't get ourselves. I SO needed to be reminded to seek HIM first.

I am so thankful for how God uses you. I've been blessed beyond belief by your teaching of HIS word!

Thank you for these words, "God gets you when YOU don't even get you. He doesn't just love you. He loves your heart. Your broken, misshapen, road-weary heart."
If we could only fully grasp His love for each of us, I think we would walk a little different.
Blessings,
Chris
p.s. I found your blog on the ministry website. Thank you for all you do.

It used to drive me nuts that not everyone could " Get me" like the Zoegirl song says(blast it sistas)
,but I came to realize God made me pretty different in the first place, I'd imagine that you too Beth have the I personality, also called the otter, but I wonder if you share the same weakness that makes me like the 11% of the population...Anyways, I'll leave you with this spoken to me early one morning years ago when I asked God why I was the one who did this or that while others did other things, a simple reply was, " You be you, they be them, and that's it."

I never thought of it that way and it draws me even closer. I Love Those Holy Hands that completely knit me and know me so well and that I don't even have to "get me"...He's already "got me".

I can't even express how much I needed to read these words tonight. God bless you, Beth.

sista salty sister's comment reminded me of something else from last night's class..(God how i Love your word) Job 5:18 .. For he bruises, but he binds up: He wounds, but His hands make whole, ...(nkjv) the word -whole- according to strong's "rapha" also carries the idea of sewing together..the same word is used in Ephesians 4:16 ...from whom the whole body, joined and knit together.....(nkjv)and again i say God how i love your word! and the sistas you gave me!

WOW. This is it. These are the words I have been looking for! I am a new mom and seem to sometimes feel like most of my other "new mom" friends don't get me. I love my son with all that I am and through having him I have come to know and love Jesus. But so many of my friends seem to always say how wonderful everything is. And I've wondered how we can be experiencing the same thing, but can feel different about it. I've found this new role as a mom to be challenging AND wonderful. Now I can see why sometimes it can feel like they don't "get me" as Beth wrote. I love how real your words make my life feel. Thanks Beth!

Beth, this was something I truly needed to hear. Thanks again for listening to the Holy Spirit, and sharing your heart with us. It blesses me more than you will ever know.(On this side of Glory anyway.)

Blessings,
Tina

OK! I did my celebrity look-a-like today at my friend's house. I found out that I look like Marco Pantani (WHO IS THAT?) the picture makes him look like a bobble head! It also said that I look like DREW CAREY! Please! To put it like you, Beth, HELP ME JESUS! But, at least it showed up that I look like Christie Brinkley and Renee Zellweger.

Psalm 139 2:b says "...You understand my thought afar off." And this woman is eternally grateful.

ONLY God knows my heart 100% of the time. It's mind-boggling, really. The Creator of the Universe KNOWS me. He knows ME.

Great post. Thanks, Beth.
