East on Interstate 10

Hey, My Darling Siestas! How's your weekend been? You guys that keep up pretty well know that I blogged last on Wednesday while we were on our way six hours northwest to our acreage in the middle of nowhere. We are now heading back to Houston so once again I'm writing you from Keith's truck. My man of 31 years is driving next to me, singing to 60's music and our two dogs are snoozing in the back seat. (He just stopped me and held my hand for a minute because the song was so sweet that he felt romantic.) We got to be away for four nights. The perfect amount of time! I wish I could say it was vacation but I had to take a ton of work with me. That's ok. At least it was from a different venue and that can help a lot.

(I just got a text from Travis with a picture on it of his youngest son who just lost two teeth. Just living a little life here. Had to stop and text back and tell Levi how cool he looks.)

My heart is full where you are concerned and full with the last four days of life out in the country with Keith. And that's why I'm going to share a little of it with you: because I love you and love how we can share so many parts of our lives with one another. This is going to be one of those posts when the girls (Amanda or Melissa) might say, "Are you sure you want to share that? You might get hit by somebody for that." We, the girls and I, provide checks and balances for one another. If we've written anything at all besides your garden variety kind of post, we usually run it by one another. Sometimes we talk each other out of an entire post because we're afraid someone will get offended or out of sorts or just take the opportunity to be ugly or critical. It happens in the blog world which many of you know from your own blogs.

Other times we just talk each other out of a few sentences or a paragraph or two. Most of you should wish you'd seen Melissa's original Song of Songs Valentine post before I talked her out of a whole chunk. (Yes, we did have a few little words over it. Not a fuss. Just a good, healthy discussion. All four of us are strong willed and opinionated. We just speak our minds back and forth, work through our differences, and, a whole lot of the time, end up making a private family joke out of it.) Those who wouldn't have wished to see Melissa's original post are the reason none of you did. (Laughing and with much love.) There was nothing wrong with it. It was just extra colorful - kind of PG13 - because the Scripts happen to be extra colorful - kind of PG14 - in that particular book.

I'm not complaining one iota. To tell you the truth, we get so little ugliness from our commenters. You guys really are so loving and encouraging and patient and understanding and leave ample room for several generations to express themselves here in very different ways. We think we have the most amazing community in bloggerville but we're not immune, of course. Sometimes we just flat out ask for it and don't even realize it. Other times we expect somebody may take exception but we just decide it's worth the risk.

This is one of those times. I'm about to show you guys some pictures - poor quality ones just off my i-phone - to give you a small taste of Moore life out at the acreage our family has. I know in advance that I'm setting myself up for someone to say sarcastically "Must be nice" but I'll just sigh when I get it and, if it doesn't get too ugly from there, post the comment anyway and wish she hadn't misunderstood. The thing is, I love biographies. Glimpses of people's real lives. Parts of their stories. For instance, every time I talk to Georgia Jan, I wish I could see her surroundings so I could picture her better. Know her in her own world. Every time Mom of Eleven (actually has 12 now, we learned at the SSMT celebration) comments I wish I could see a picture of all of them. It's one way we, scattered all over the place, take a virtual stroll through a mile or two of one another's worlds.

Actually, the world I'm about to share with you really isn't my world. It's my man's. But once a couple has been married over 25 years, you really can't know the one without knowing the other. You can no longer tell for sure where one stops and the other starts. This isn't land I would have chosen in a thousand years but it's what my man chose and I chose him. SO, when I talk about us heading to what I call our cactus land, this is the kind of place I'm talking about. I'll describe it a tad first then I'll stroll with you through some shots.

It's a place where your cell phone won't work and your land line is likely not to.

It's the kind of place where Keith and I use (or misuse) English in a way we'd never do it at home. We don't do it to make fun. We, for those few days, say it like we mean it. Like that's who we are. Like, for instance, just this morning on an early ride with Keith in the old jeep, I heard myself say, "We ain't seen deer one."

It's a place where men are not limited to inside facilities...but I'll not elaborate on that.

It's a place where our favorite show is "The Duck Commander." We laugh our heads off...and, perhaps most worrisome to some of you, totally get it.

It's the kind of place with a VERY small town nearby that I have fallen head over heels in love with. It has one real grocery story, a "Super S," and just yesterday while I was picking up a few items, as I live and breathe and without one hint of exaggeration, the woman at check-out got on the microphone for the store and said over the loud speaker, "Mr. Brown, your wife called and wants you to pick up a bag of potatoes." Ain't no doubt in my mind he got some. I was so happy I nearly got some, too.

It's a place with a LOT of these, hence the name:

It's a place where a woman (even a non-hunter like yours truly) sometimes dresses like this on an early morning ice-cold jeep ride (with no windows in it) with no make-up on:

It's a place where, if the temperature's right, a woman would be wise to wear snake boots like mine:

It's a place where your man's taller than usual and where manliness can sometimes be gaged by how old and beat up your vehicle is: (For those of you who can't fathom it, that's a corn feeder on the front of the jeep for feeding wild life. You guys just have no idea what my life is like at times. Or his, because of mine.)

It's a place where your man's favorite hot rod looks like this:

It's a place where the gate might latch with a horse shoe:

It's a place where that tiny one hundred year-old German farm house that I told you about in So Long Insecurity resides. My man went to great pains to restore this thing back to its original look. Every window and door in it is a century old.

It's a place where the sunrise this morning from my little porch looked like this and this one's not even an especially good one:

It's a place with, I reckon, my favorite place of all tucked right in it. I swing here and think about all sorts of things and sing hymns and pet Star:

It's a place where a woman can take her spirals and practice them loud without a single soul hearing or caring:

It's a place I wish all of you who wish you had one, did. Maybe one day, when you're older like Keith and me, you will. It's a place others of you might be bored out of your mind. Maybe your wish list would be a tiny little bay house instead. It's just all a matter of taste. Sometimes not your own.

It's a place where my man seems to love me a lot.

So it's a place I love to go.

What an awesome place! I'm a SUCKER for old homes, so I'm pretty sure I would study every knot in the wood at that precious house.

Our little piece of heaven down here in Alabama is the beach - specifically the Gulf of Mexico - even more specifically Gulf Shores. I grew up going there every summer and it hasn't changed much since then. In the hectic world of 3 small children, I can't imagine any place more peaceful than sitting on the beach as the sun rises while the hubs and kids sleep inside. I'm pretty sure my heavenly mansion will have a beach view from the front porch (as well as a Starbucks and all of my best Siesta friends living in the same cul-de-sac - right?) :)

Love you to pieces. Come back to Birmingham soon!

And that's all that really matters! I think my place would be on the bay somewhere and luckily I think my man would agree. In the meantime we stay knee deep in Fisher Price and dirty diapers :-) Oh, but maybe one day...Thank you so much for sharing! Have a blessed week!

Hmmm, sounds like it's a place my man would love.

I have snake chaps, but no boots. I'm envious. Those look like mighty fine boots to me. Only thing you did not show us is the gun you tote to fend off the rattlers. Gotta show us the gun, Beth!

and that swing....oooohhhh, I love it. I'd love to swing and swing in it, all the while reading a good book.

Mrs. Beth,

The first words that would echo in my heart and mind after seeing this post were "Be Still..." Psalm 46:10, yes, with the final words of "and know that I am GOD" The love, solitude, and silence that beautiful piece of land must provide, I am sure, is absolutely overwhelming. It made me ask myself, do I "let go" for God? Am I being still for God? Just as you mentioned in your post about saying things you normally wouldn't say, (like the word 'ain't'), do I reveal that side of me to my Father? Your post in all its simplicity, challenged me to "let my hair down" in front of my Savior who created this beautiful scenery we take in. Just this weekend I have wanted to read and study God's word so much and it becomes overwhelming for me sometimes to balance my life. I started occupational therapy school last August, and its so tough to study school things when I have God's word, dictionaries, books and commentaries, it just seems I can't get enough of the Holy Spirit working in my life lately. I am thankful for the desire to know more...
Tearfully, I thank you for providing this post to us today. It allowed me the chance to stop working on research papers, learning theories, and studying for school and gave me a chance to be still after reading your post and reflect on the intimacy God desires of me! Thank you..
Devin

I so want my husband and myself to meet you and Keith, because you sound like our kind of folk. However, I am hesitant in that dream because I am certain that, if we did meet, our husbands would take off to that there ranch of yours and you and I wouldn't see our men in the light of day again, but we'd have more than enough deer, turkey, hog, and the like to fill our freezers for a year.

*sigh*

The hazards of being in the Wives of Hunters Club.

BUT, then again, it has it great rewards, such as you've shown us here. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Now, where are my snake boots?

Beth,
Thanks so much for sharing! There is something renewing about getting away from the everyday routine and chaos with your husband. Someday my husband and I hope to have a little place - woods/water are his request and a toilet that flushes is mine : ). I never thought I would be an outdoor girl - but the change in my husband when we get away with our little pop-up camper makes me love those trips!

He drives around in that thing like the cat that ate the canary...even our son and his friends absolutely covet that truck! old trucks, jeeps and farm equipment - such guy things, gotta love em!!!!!

Beth, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you and your girls feel free to share your lives! Our family has a little ol' place on Lake Granbury (bought long, long before things got so expensive out there)...we girls wouldn't in a bazillion years take pictures of each other out there (and we LOVE to take pictures of ourselves everywhere else!)...I LOVE that you can look so adorable in camo coveralls with no makeup! Ain't life grand?! Yep, and that's a saying I only say at the lakehouse, I know just what you mean! Love you and yours!!!!!

Keep sharing, don't let your insecurities of what others will think rob those of us who do enjoy your stories/pictures!

That was really beautiful...thank you so much for sharing that with us. We live in DC...I'm a self proclaimed "city slicker." My husband - to put it gently - he dispises it here:). But today is his kind of day. 14 trees went down in our backyard during the last snow storm. He has secured the world's biggest chain saw and is merrily ripping apart wood. He's a very happy man...and like you...that's enough to make me happy too.

Thank you Beth for sharing a little piece of your life with us. I now feel a little more normal knowing that you too watch "Duck Commander".

Living with a husband and son in SW Louisiana that live and breath to go the the duck/fish camp every chance they get, you have to sit down and enjoy those crazy duck hunter shows with them. Helps me to be in "their" world sometimes.

I'd love to go and sit on your swing and drink coffee with you. Looks like a lovely peaceful place to be. So proud for you and Keith to have such a spot of Gods green/brown earth.

I laughed at the comment about the old truck. I FINALLY talked my husband into selling his what seemed like 100 yr truck. Thought he was gonna cry. But he's better now in his 2006 model 4-wheel drive. My son still hasn't stopped grinning.

Thanks again for ministering to us women, for being so real, honest & sharing a little of your life with us. Love ya!!

Beth, I am more of a lurker than a siesta who comments, but I wanted you to know that this post made me happy & sad all at the same time. Your man's happy place reminds me a lot of where I grew up....we only had a mom & pop grocery store, a post office, a school, and a gas station in our little town. Our school district covered over 300 square miles with only about 300 kids in the whole school! Sometimes, your closest neighbor was several miles away. If you wanted to go to "town" you drove 40 miles; if you wanted to go to the "big city" you drove about 100 miles. Then if you wanted to go to someplace like Houston....well, that was several hundred miles!! Thanks for sharing a slice of your life that brought back some great memories of my growing up years!

It really reminds me of the sitting area Wayne made me for Mother's Day last year in our 'back 40' (feet, that is!) with a garden bench and lanterns hanging from the giant oak! Can't wait for some drier weather to enjoy it.

Now we can invision where you go to refocus on your busy life! Blessings, Bobbie

I LOVE that you posted this!! I wish I could picture the inside of it too. I adore restored homes. There is just something almost magical about standing where others have stood and trying to imagine the lives they lived! I love it.

I'm sorry you get ugly mail sometimes. I have been fortunate not to get anything hurtful on my blog before, but I know many sisters who have! I guess it kind of comes with the territory.

Thanks for sharing a little slice of your world with us! We just adore you. :)

Thank you for the pictures and THANK YOU for not showing us any with snakes in them!!! I have an unhealthy fear of those slithery creatures and have been known to scream at just a picture of one! (And known to have nightmares after reading about shooting them in a certain person's new book!)

On a happier note, the verse on your spiral may just have to be my next one. I need to find out its address!

Love and prayers to all,

Thank you so much for such a sweet post. Your cactus ranch is truly a beautiful place. You have, however, inadvertantly issued me a challenge-I am a city girl married to a country boy for 24 years. I wonder what I have missed out on by not taking some time to hunt or fish with him, I probably do not want to know, but you can bet, I won't decline the next time! Your final statements touched me in a profound way. So glad to hear you had a wonderful time and I pray you return fully refreshed and renewed for the coming week.

Beth, thanks for sharing that. Living in San Antonio and having lived in Uvalde & Canyon Lake, and mother-in-law at Lake LBJ, your special place looks like this neck of the woods in Texas. I love the little house. So like some of the originals in New Braunfels that are so sweet. I think the longer we are married the more we understand, or at least accept, what makes our men happy. My dh would have that place, but with a well worn motorcycle track. Heck, he'd just take off & ride the hill country roads really fast, and I'd not want to hear about it later. He'd want a lake to go with it. But the all alone with only a Super S, he'd like that. At least until he wanted to rent a movie or get a new computer part. Then his city boy side might pop out.

Thanks for sharing a piece of your life with us.

Oh Beth - I live more in Keith's position. We live in a place my man loves (it's in NM) and I...well, let's say I don't. But godliness with CONTENTMENT is great gain and I loved your phrase that you love it cause he does. I long for pavement and green and clean and shopping and restaurants - well, maybe long is a strong word but I enjoy city life when I get to...sans tractors, guns, dirt, cactus...you get the idea. Give Keith a hug for me - I know how he feels.

Brrr, Beth, you look so cold! My husband used to have a Jeep too and his favorite way to drive it was with the top off... especially in the winter.

The old farmhouse is so cool! I'm so glad you're restoring it, instead of updating it. How lovely. Thanks for including a picture- when reading So Long Security, I was curious about what it looked like.

Don't you just love the Texas hill country? My parents live out there. It's home to me. :)

Or Wyoming. I grew up in one, and live in the other.

I went a big city yesterday in CO with my hubby. That was MY retreat. And although my hubby is NOT a shopper, he made the best of it as we wandered the aisles of Target (we forgot the list).

We live every day in the wild, but in my heart I'm a big city girl.

I felt God there! Well not actually there but a place very much like it. When my cousin first got married, her husband ran a 20,000 acre ranch in the middle of a 40,000 acre ranch in south Texas right on the Rio Grand. It was 26 miles from town, 17 of which were down a dirt road and through 3 gates. It was a privately owned hunting ranch for a family named the Chupa Dero. It required snake boots, deer feeders and had no respect for cell phones. While riding around in a top drive one day before deer went into rut, we shall a huge heard of about 50 deer just running wild and free. I saw God that day. It is one of the two places where the beauty of what God has created overwhelmed me to the point that I was overcome with His presence. The other being Denali National Park in Alaska. Both so different yet overwhelming in their beauty. Every time I need to remember what it's like to feel God, I think of that ranch. Many people don't get it but I'm positive you do. Enjoy your place of rest and thanks for sharing and making me think of the Chup!

Our son built a wrecked jeep and calls it Franken Jeep Jr. complete with personalized lisc. plates! Grin! My son hunts and shoots and is hoping to become a gun smith. SO happy for you and your man to have this place and know in those of my senses that have been sanctified that it is this sense of care coupled with the love motivated transparency that wrote this post that is also what the Lord has cultivated and used all these years.

May He keep on at just that and may He also keep cultivating that space and time that leaves you in the quiet with just Him and your man.

Joy-filled for you!

Thank you for sharing your words and pics. I like being able to place people in their "natural habitats". What has impressed most deeply in me is that you give so much of yourself by the nature of your ministry - it's such a blessing that you truly have a place to get away completely and be with your family and Creator. Sweeter than honey, ain't it though?

So glad you feel free to share with your sisters. I dislike that the anonymity of the Internet can compel us to be extra guarded instead of built up by one another who choose to gather in special online communities. Wouldn't it be great if the entire world community, both online and F2F was a No Intimidation Zone? :-D

Many blessings to y'all,

Look. I've just got to tell you I am so glad you have a place like that! Even though it's a little ruff around the edges, I know it's a place of serenity and peace. We all need that every once in a while.
Love the part about the wife message at the "store." So funny!

I browsed today in a large, indoor flea market in Tennille, Ga. Found some things to use to decorate around my house for Easter.

1. A Beatrix Potter planter with Peter Rabbit on the side.
2. A cute, pink baby outfit with a bunny and a rose embroidered on the front (I'm putting it on a teddy bear).
3. A very old doily with pansies crocheted as the edging.
4. A canister with a picture of a French-type floral arangement. It's see-through and I'm putting Easter candy in it...maybe Chocolate...maybe jelly beans. Not sure yet.
5. Some books - three of Jan Karon's Mitford series. Read them before but love giving them away.
And a really neat book from Zondervan. You start reading it from one way and then you can flip it over and read the other way. What's it about? One way...The Most Important Year In A Man's Life. The other way...The Most Important Year In a Woman's Life and it's by Susan Devries and Bobbie Wolgemuth. I paid a whole $1.50 for it!
6. And the best thing I picked out really fast as I was about to check out. It was a ceramic figurine of two bunnies, one holding a tiny blue flower and the other hugging the one with the flower. I didn't really notice that, I just liked the color of the rabbits and grabbed them quickly. After I got home I read on the bottom of the bunnies the name of the figurine..."He Loves Me." I almost cried! I've had a lot of complicated things going on in my marriage. I'm not sure why, but the "He Loves Me" was a message from God to encourage my day.

So, I'm passing it on to you and all my siestas today..."He Loves You."

It was so much fun reading about your days away and seeing the pictures. Thought you might enjoy some of my details.

We are blessed.

I totally get it. Not even a little bit...but TOTALLY. We have this place, too. It is only about 45 minutes from our home, but it feels as if it's a million miles away...which is just the way I like it. It's a place where you can sit on the deck and "spit in the river" if you so choose (MY man's words). It's a place where getting on those "hot rods" you talk about is not work, but play...even if it IS work;-) It's a place where, if I do nothing but sit on the couch all day I don't feel guilty because I'm not doing something constructive.

We cherish our place. We own and operate a log home company, with our office being in our home so home often feels like work. Sometimes I feel like God blessed us with a place like this so we remember to take the opportunity to slow down and ENJOY LIFE, ENJOY EACH OTHER, AND BE STILL.

We just got home this morning from "the cabin" as we call it. We came back home so we could go to church this morning. We had the most amazing weekend with friends, and if you get a chance to hop on over to my blog and check out the Survivor-style beach hut the kids spent making yesterday...it will make you smile for sure:-) But it's the kind of fun we have there. And I'm so glad you shared your special place with us. God bless.

My guy loves the same Texas dirt. We're in that same season of life, and there is something restorative about waking up with the light to a fiery sunrise, and rocking in front of an outdoor fireplace. Mike is the happiest he ever is when he is working hard man's work, and there's something almost scary about the power he feels behind his John Deere! I'm not there yet, and still love the city, but I love it because he does.

Beth, of all the people I know, you need getaways. So glad you took a few days to change surroundings and be with Keith in his "happy place." AND, it's almost fishing season. Blessed Lord's Day to you. You remain in my prayers for healing and restored energy. Love, Annette

Beth:

Sometimes the beauty of it all is in the simplicity of it all.

My husband who has a staff of approximately 30 people reporting to him wears the same thing every Monday, i.e., black dress pants, long sleeved white dress shirt and tie. Tuesday, he wears the same thing, khaki dress slacks and striped blue and white long sleeved dress shirt and tie....so on and so forth for the rest of his week. I asked him one day why he did that week in and week out, and he said he didn't want to have to get up every morning and wonder what he was going to wear!! Can anybody relate to that?? He even does it done to the bare skin..if you know what I mean! Some people might think it is weird, but it is actually refreshing. It todays world where we are all so concerned about how we look to others, its a lesson to be learned. It's not about clothes, makeup, big houses or just plain things!!! Getting back to the simple things and nature is what we are suppose to do and your pics so reminded me of that. It's a place where you can quiet your soul and reunite with your Maker. "Be Still and Know That I Am God". Thank you for reminding me of that!

Never thought anyone could look good in camo but you do! It looks heavenly on you. I love your place and would be very comfortable out there, perhaps except for rattlesnakes; but then even where I live in some of the surrounding mountains are rattlesnakes and copperheads. I am so glad you had a chance to spend some time away and refresh yourself, you work very hard for us.

I am blessed to look out my kitchen window and see a mountain covered with snow, but I live in a small town with a larger one 20 minutes away, so it is not all country. Deer, raccoons, chipmunks, beaver, bears, etc have at times graced our backyard. God paints beautiful cloud pictures for me on the surrounding mountains. God is so good, last night He had me on my face singing praises to Him after all my family went to bed.

Beth, I count myself blessed to have you come into my life through your work and love for the Lord. You have NO idea how much you helped me form a relationship with God. I have done 9 of your studies and look forward to the 10th one in a few weeks with this same small group. When I walked into the church to do the first one of your studies, I was angry at God, not sure where He was in my life, but so desiring to figure things out. Through your studies, the women in my small group, and my pastor I began to sort things out. God did a healing and much of what you taught helped make the healing possible. In fact, even though the church that does your studies is not my home church, they have seen such growth in me that they have made me a small group leader. I learned to love God, and a good part of that process, happened in your studies.

If I had to pick the one study that had the most profound effect on me, it would be Believing God (I took it on the internet). I didn't believe Him then, but grew to know Him better. Last year we did this study in our small group and I had both books, comparing my responses showed me how much I had changed.

Please keep giving yourself time to get away and refresh, and then please continue sharing what God shows you. Beth, you are truly a gift from God.

Since i moved to Brazil, i've been introduced to quite a range of places my husband loves. Places that i never would have chosen to frequent myself, either.

I've been learning to like this country, the quirks of cultural differences and some physical destinations that really get him excited – and keep him happy. He's half fisherman/half beach resort lover. - I'm more of a beach bum/beach comber more at home in Port Aransas, Texas than some popular overcrowded beach.

By choosing him: i'm here. ...and trying to not just *like* it, but learning to see it how he does, and wanting to learn how to **love** it… as well as the people that i've been called to minister to...

It's not easy; especially in a climate that doesn't readily accept Americans, monogamy or marriage beyond a set time frame...

I know that i really have to seek the Lord's will in how to adjust here, and that only through Him will my marriage be blessed. I hope that one day we can resemble something close to what you & Keith have in your marriage.

You are such an encouragement – from all angles!

Bonus: You don't know what it did for my heart to see a glimpse of my home state that i love & miss so much.

Praise the Lord that He blessed you with this haven - or as Keith might refer to it: "heaven". :)

Beth,
As the Lord would have me meditating on in my spiral 1Peter 3:1-6 and your post, I am convicted to love my husband in a way that is beyond words. Your example solidifies my application of that scripture to respectfully enter into my husband's foreign world that doesn't limit me but rather causes me to trust God more completely. Thank you for your transparency but above all for your obedience to God in your marriage. Beth, I am so very grateful to God that you were born "for such a time as this." You are loved, admired and appreciated.

What bliss to have a place for refreshment! It looks lovely though to truly appreciate it, I have to sort of ignore in my mind that you have to bring a gun with you when you go out hiking. I would likely think I saw something move and one bullet later, realize I had shot off my foot!! ;)
When my husband was a pastor, my parents would pay for a cabin on a lake for one or two weeks for us each summer. What a gift!!
I hope you have been refreshed and renewed. :)

Beth, what a GORGEOUS place. That seems like a place you can truly get away and refresh...even if you had work to do.
When I was 12 my parents moved our family out to 250 acres in the middle of no where. Even though it's a bit of a drive to get there, I love to go out there. I connect with God more out there because it seems like I can ignore the craziness of normal life.

I'm glad you got to get away! Love all the pics!

I LOVE the outfit!!!! I did laugh though...only 'cause you are so adorable! And 'cause it reminded me of going to the laundromat in my pj's last Sunday before church(had to wash the guest room comforter for company arriving that evening). Insecurity over attire is not my issue at all; however, I did think it was safe 'cause the roads were completely snowed over and it was very early in the morning...I wasn't embarassed until I realized I didn't brush my hair either (I didn't think I would be there long). Anyway, I love times it doesn't matter that you are yourself...only wish peeps were that way always. :) ...well, maybe it is best that we limit ourselves, I don't think I'd wanna hit the streets mid day lookin' like I just got up. hee hee
ps...I'm so sad M's post was censored...can we get an emailed copy or is it gone for good? I promise I won't say a word...puleeezzzzeee. ;) Really, I understand...and I love you all...whatever you post.

Beth, this may seem weird but today my brother-in-law, sister, their 19 month old grandbaby, we call "Spud" and my friend Georgia went to Pigeon Forge, Tn. this morning to have a getaway day, a shopping day, we were driving through country, hills, mountains, cows, so peaceful and I thought of you today and and wondered how your trip went?! I smiled when I read this post.

Girlfriend, you are more gusty than me, I love your snake boots but I promise you I would be chicken. Just sayin'.

Love you,

Today, while watching you on DVD in The Inheritance, I felt like I was hit between the eyes . . . my seven your old son generally says something like, "Now THAT is gonna leave a mark!" Beth, I ahve to tell you - that is exactly what I should have heard while going through session 6! I have so many areas of "my land" that I had not claimed and Satan was indeed on my land! Thank you for your guidance, your love, your dedication to sharing God's Word with Women like me! Praise God that I am able to claim those areas and ask God to sanctify it!

Thanks so much for not giving in to the insecurity of what people might say and for sharing these pictures. Thanks for sharing life with all of us!

Just want to shout this out from the mountain tops...Today is mine and my hubbies 10th wedding anniversay! We made it 10 whole years, and if you knew us you would know this is no small miracle! We have been through so many trials in the past ten years, but I know we are only stronger together because of it. Loved, LOVED the pictures!!

My husband and I have an RV motorhome that serves as our retreat center on wheels. It's one of those bus like looking vehicles.

We are about the last people you would expect to own an RV and my husband's brother laughs at him when he thinks of his scientist type big brother hurtling down the road in a gas guzzling boat on wheels. But we don't care because God has brought us some healing in our RV excursions and Miss Beth I mean some soul deep HEALING!

So amen to RV motor homes and cactus ranches and all the other cockeyed ways God uses to refresh the saints.

Thank you for sharing your special place with us. I think many of us probably have special places. I think it is so wonderful that are God gives us these special places in His beautiful world.

We have a special place too, our popup camper. There is a beautiful state park in Tennessee, Fall Creek Falls, that is truly the most beautiful place in the world I think. We used to take the kids camping there. We are teachers so we could go a lot in the summers. Now my children are grown and my husband and I have come to love going there together, just the two of us. When you come to Tennessee you should get Travis to take you there, stay in Campground E.

Looking forward to spring break in 2 weeks at my special place in Campground E.

Oh sweet Siesta Momma,
How I love you and your ability to unabashedly allow thousands of eyes a glimpse into the "Moore reality". I myself am just taking a break from my work at home weekend....but praise the Lord I have work in this downturn the country is facing!
I seriously cannot tell you how you touched my heart with this post. The pictures brought tears to my eyes...maybe because I have a Keith-kinda man and I know how much those wide open spaces do for their souls. Or maybe because we had a sermon on God's awesome glory and to appreciate the beauty of ALL HE created around us. We are doing small groups and a sermon series on the book Crazy Love....can you believe it...I am doing Crazy Love and So Long Insecurity at the same time! God is doing so much work in me!
I also need to share with you how God worked in me this weekend. I received a text from my husband's ex-wife this weekend and she just wanted a fight....I kept my calm and just responded in love...apologized for the way I wounded her heart unintentionally and told her what I wanted for both her and the kids. I walked away thinking....I really need to be more tender towards her heart and careful of wounding her....last year I would have been venting to you about how WRONG she was and how she DESERVED every bit of pain I caused her. God is changing me so much...that it brings me to tears yet again. I have been so hateful and spiteful to her over the last five years...and he is creating a love for her in my heart....a tenderness I never would have dreamed of.
Thank you for sharing your "hiding place" with us. I so appreciate it! I am so happy (not cynical or spiteful or envious) that you and Keith have such an amazing place to go for "away" time.

Loving you,
Andrea

Beth, thanks for sharing!! I've always loved stuff like that...photos of Beatrix Potter's home & garden, Laura Ingalls Wilder's kitchen, etc. I'm especially impressed with the restored German house.

Tariq & I, if we were to ever get a little getaway spot, would probably like something on the beach. (I'd have trouble relaxing around snakes.) How great for y'all to have a place like that, that you can drive to!

Just wanted to share this with you ....This morning at church was my turn to help in one of the nursery rooms; I volunteer once every 6 weeks and they put me wherever needed. So I get to my assigned room and ask if I could take some of the little ones, who looked to be around 10-13 months old, on a baby-buggy ride (those red 4-seater strollers we have at our church). I absolutely love driving the buggy-loads of adorable children around the church! People are always smiling and waving and saying hi to them. Today, as we headed out to where the tots could hear the live worship music (and even see the people worshiping inside the auditorium for the first couple of songs), I asked God if His Spirit would sit on these precious ones, just sit on their heads. We watched this morning's baptisms on the video screen in the main lobby, we continued to listen to the worship music there, too. It wasn't long before one of the little ones nodded off to sleep. Pretty soon, three of the four babies were asleep -- it was so cute that I wanted to take a picture to show their parents. But I didn't know who any of their parents were, so I didn't. The only one who didn't nod off was the only one who was just a little bit fussy when I buckled her in; but once she heard the music, she was in a great mood, clapping and twirling her hands for the rest of the ride.

We get back to the classroom and soon the parents come pick up their babies. Only when Amanda came to the door to pick up Annabeth did I realize that the Annabeth on the buggy-ride was Amanda's Annabeth, y'all's Annabeth! She had had a little 15-20 minute nap on the buggy...so sweet!

Hope y'all have a safe trip back!

Blessings,
Karen K.

I'm glad you shared this, because even though I actually did think to myself, "Must be nice", I actually believe with all my heart that God rewards those that He loves (and who love Him). I was thinking that phrase as more of how you would hear 5-year-old little girls at a bday party say, "Luuuuckkky!!!" when the bday girl opens a present they're all jealous about! :) I'm glad you're a blessed woman. Because, honestly, none of us have room to complain about our lack of ranch property. We all have blessings surrounding us in the form of MANY things! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing! I'm sooo happy you did! I've ALWAYS imagined what your ranch looks like and that sure ain't what I had in mind! One more thing, the picture of your spiral made me think of it. I found this cool free app for my iphone called FlashCards. I have made a set for my last year's verses and my this year's verses. You can even add a picture that you take with your phone. You can create them on your computer and use syncdocs to sync them if you don't like tapping on the iPhone. There is also a FlashCard exchange site where you can share your cards. Wouldn't that be neat for us to share our verses with each other and the world. Maybe that would be the way to do the memory challenge when we do it again.

Listened to your interview of WAFR that was broadcast via the land line that actually worked that morning. You're SO PRECIOUS, sweet sister! Thank you for sharing yourself so openly. Thanks Keith for letting her!

Absolutely loved this post. The Duck Commander lives in my city/town. And I don't think I will ever think of Beth Moore and The Duck Commander the same way again! LOL!!

I grew up on a tractor, girlfriend! Your pics made me miss it!

My sisters and I would bushhog in the hayfields and SING SING SING to the tops of our lungs. We'd meet each other on our own tractors with tears pouring down our cheeks from the feeling we'd worked up in ourselves from singing sad ones. Wasn't anything like it. I wouldn't change it for the world!

Beth, that was precious. I can just feel the love in your heart bursting over from your wonderful time there. I wrote a blog once about having some land and and house like that called "A Cottage of my own" but I don't have a link to that blog for you. :) Mine was mostly about getting away by myself with God. But how much better to bring your man along! Actually, it sounds like he brought you along on his trip a little. he he. I love you so, Laurie

Thank you for sharing! It is such an honor to see you beyond the fuss and get up and where you are real and live. It makes you - one of us - not that untouchable teacher from afar.

Ignore those that will give you business that isn't their business.

Growing up we had a modest lake house that had NO A/C, no phone, and barely a black and white TV channel (If you held the antenna just right out of the window).
My daddy loved that place because he was a fisherman to his very core. He loved to sit on the pier at night and go out in the early morning and catch us dinner for the night.
My Mom and Dad seemed most in love there. It held my favorite childhood memories despite it's sparse decor and "roughing it" mentality. I wish they had not have sold it. I love that you have that with Keith, and that one day I will, too... I just know it!

Thanks for sharing pictures! I've wondered many times what it's like. And by the way, only you could make camo look adorable with your fashionable scarf! :)

Beth,
You know what I really like about this blog? It gives us a chance to see and know you (and your girls) for who you really are - just our sisters in Jesus... one of us. If I only viewed you through the conferences with 7000+ women, or your bestselling books, or seeing you on TV or up on stages... that would be a liitle too intimidating. But in this blog you really are simply our dear, sweet sisters. I - and I'm sure the rest of the siestas - feel very loved by you and the LPM staff.
So thanks for sharing this "down to earth" piece of your life with us, Siesta Beth.

I feel so much closer to you now! :) I loved seeing your 'cactus land' we've heard mention of so many times before! You are an amazing wife, I'm not sure I'd be as good about it except for that last part of your post...it's a place your man loves you a lot...so it's a place you love to go! Pretty much sums it up! Totally worth it! You are blessed!!!

I loved this post for so many reasons. I have to admit my favorite part was seeing you in the full camo. You really are a diva and I love to see how put together you are in your video studies, right now it happens to be Revelation, but it was nice to see you in hunting gear!

P.S. Georgia Jan is speaking this coming Saturday morning for me at my women's Coffee Connection. Wish you could be there to hear her. (I'll take a picture and send it to you!) :-)

Oh my! Am I the only one who just can't get over the rattlesnakes??! I was thinking how sweet the swing was - then pictured the snakes and got the shivers all over again! I am truly happy you have a lovely place to go... and also that you have a shotgun to protect you during your walks!

Mrs. Beth,
It looks like such a fun place. So unpretentious, just like a piece of heaven. Fun, relaxed, laid back, and your own!

You were so sweet to mention our precious family. . I would love for all you to "see" us! Somehow I will get a photo to you as well, so when I post, you can imagine our brood in your mind. "Real" life is tough, crazy, and our world is a dose of reality like none other. Currently kiddos are running free in their pjs, baby is fussing, one is unloading the dishwasher (they all have chores), several are taking in the last minutes of the olympics, and here I am blogging. Better get back to my world!

Thanks for letting us see a "piece" of yours!

I hope your man's place smells a bit better than the one I get to visit every now and again!
Thanks for letting us visit this simple, but somehow normal part of your life.

This was so fun to read and see the pictures, can we show them to our husbands? Especially the ones that are true Texans?

I am glad you have this special place, enjoy!

My dream is to have a place in the hill country of Texas. My great grandparents lived in Center Point and I truly miss going to their home. It was a one bedroom home with an attic that was divided into two rooms. One side had one bed and the other side had two beds. All my great grandmothers sewing resided in that attic also. She loved to cook and always, always had some kind of dessert prepared. It was a small community and my Great Grandfather walked to the post office everyday to retrieve the mail and walked to the grocery store to buy their groceries. I vividly remember his pipe that he smoked and 1 small bottle of coke he drank daily. In 1981 they were moved to a rest home in Boerne (99 and 90 yrs of age) where they resided till their passings. He passed at 99 and she at 98. I would love the peace and quite it would bring except for maybe family. I would love to be without phone, tv and radio. Just give me my praise and worship music, books, a porch, sunrises and sunsets.

Aw Beth.. I am just now reading that part in So Long Insecurity.. It is a very real blessing to picture what you were referring to.. So I say thank you. :)

We just moved to my husband's neck of the woods where Big Gulps, and RV's and shotguns abound. A place where I don't get it, but where, when I hear him say, "I'm Home." I smile. :) And I have only been married just shy of 12 years! (Next weekend!! thanktheLordohsoverymuch!)

Can't imagine where we will be at 25+.. ;)
