TUESDAY NIGHT HFBC BIBLE STUDY CANCELLED FOR TONIGHT!

Calling all Home-Girls! We just had to make a really hard decision. No Tuesday night Bible study at HFBC this evening. I am sad but certain this is right. All my dear friends on the LifeWay video team were just about to check in for their Nashville flight to Houston and I needed to either stop them or give them a thumbs up that we were having it. They bring an enormous amount of equipment so it is no small thing to ask them to come when our plans are up in the air.

These are some things we know for sure: they are forecasting 90% chance of precipitation which will become "slush" and even if the sleet doesn't hit Houston until closer to midnight, it will still be a miserable cold, wet night to be out on the roads. For those of you who aren't familiar with the location of HFBC where we meet for Bible study, it is positioned at the intersection of two huge freeways and overpasses and one of the main entrances to the church is a bridge. We just can't take that kind of risk with you guys. Also, we know for sure that the roads north of the city will be iced over so we would definitely miss out on all our Home-Girls who come from those areas.

My man helped me make the final decision. He said, "I think you're probably OK for Bible study tonight but I'll tell you this. If I were one of their husbands, I'd be asking if that woman (yours truly) had lost her ever-loving mind getting my wife out in this stuff."

Enough said.

SO, we'll add on an extra Tuesday night to make up for tonight and all you Houston area girls try to get home from work at a decent time, wrap up in a comforter, build a fire and feel the sweet rest of God.

You are so dearly loved. We so much want to be faithful stewards of the responsibility God has placed in our hands. I think we're making the right decision but, if we err, let's err on the safe side.

NOW, help us get the word out as effectively as you can!

SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY!

*We need to keep this post front and center today, so we will announce the winners of the pop quiz drawing tomorrow.*

**And, one last note. Some of you darling Siestas are dying to see pictures of Jackson's birthday since we got to celebrate AB's on here. As soon as we can clear the blog of the weather alert and random drawings, we'll joyfully oblige!

I have a related story. My husband said it would be okay to go get a perm at the beauty shop.
I thought it would come an ice storm, yes the recent one we just had and so he told me it would not be here that soon. Well, obey your husband_right. I went and the electricity went off. Here I sat in curls. She dried my hair the best she could and we left. My husband drove, but he had a hard time finding his way out of the area. Trees had ice on them and limbs began to snap all around.
We almost got stuck, but finally found our way home. Better safe than sorry. Yes, husbands are funny.

Thank you, Jesus! This makes my decision much easier for tonight. We've lived in MUCH snowier places for many years and know how to drive in messy stuff, but the thought of doing it in Houston was a little unsettling, especially on those elevated freeways and bridges!! The tho't makes me shudder!!

I'll use this time to spend on my journey through SLI. I didn't realize your video team came from Nashville--we'll keep them in our prayers each Tuesday morning now. Enjoy your day and know that we all love you and what you do for us.

Many blessings to the Moore's!

I feel your pain, Beth. We have had some freaky weekend weather in February here in North Carolina. I've had to cancel out 2 Saturday morning Jesus the One and Only sessions and was so bummed about it. I sent around a group email to all the ladies saying, "I truly wish the weather had not complicated matters. I had it all planned to end a week before Easter, but I guess God had something else in mind.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”

I agree with you. It is better to err on the side of safety.

Ok, seriously, I laughed out loud as this is totally something my husband would say. Sorry to hear about the cancellation. But am glad you're all being safe.

I have had to make those same kinds of decisions, and the thing that always refreshes me is the relief it gives to others not to have to make the decision!! Good choice, Siesta Mama.

Oh and for the record - I WAS in the Scripts yesterday morning - Revelation 9 to be exact. But I missed the post. BUSY Monday!! Love the idea of the giveaway though!

This sounds just like the way we live in Iowa from Nov-April! We plan---but we cancel! "When in doubt, don't go out." This year has been especially hard. Where I live, we have had over 60 inches of snow!(& ICE) We are headed for the record which is 72 inches! My heart is so sad for the death of a 23 year old that I taught kindergarten many years ago,(because of bad roads) and also the death of a 29 year old man who died in January in a car accident and left a wife, toddler, and baby. He attended a church here but lived in another town.Thankfully both of these young people knew Jesus! You made the right decision, Beth.

Thanks for making the decision for me,sweet Beth.My husband told me this morning that he would prefer for me to stay home tonight(I am driving in from Magnolia)regardless of the decision you all were going to make to have biblestudy or not.My heart wanted to go and NOT miss biblestudy,my head knew to stay home for safety and to honor my husband. I know my heart would have won !!! if you all had decided to have biblestudy and I would have come to biblestudy. Now I can stay home peacefully and use that time to start my next week homework.

I live in New England, so I am plenty used to driving in snow, ice, sleet you name it! But for all you southerners who are not used to driving in the snow/ice, its better to be safe, cuz it's tricky driving in it even for veterans like us New Englanders!!! Spend some extra quiet time with the Lord at home tonight!!!

2 months ago this northern gal totally would have giggled at your cancelling due to some sleet...however, since still recuperating from driving the Houston roads during the SMT(probably have PTSD given I nearly assummed the fetal position at the mention of the 610 loop), I totally agree with your decision. In fact, I believe your roads to be dangerous under any circumstances and think ya'll should just walk!

Sweet Beth,
I just had to share a story with you. I live in Maine and my best friend lives in PA (she and I and her sister [from WA] attended the SSMTC!!!). She has done many of your Bible studies at a local church near her. This church let me borrow "Breaking Free" (it's the older version and I made sure that my ladies knew you had since redone it in an effort to redeem your hair-do :)and I brought it back here to Maine. I contacted the local Methodist church in my town (I attend church in another town) and they agreed to let me hold the Bible study there. We have 14 ladies attending from NINE different churches!! Next week we may have one more, a young woman with a brain tumor who has been too sick to come out yet. I am beside myself at the grace of God and His perfect timing. I have never led a Bible study before, but there are some things that drop out of Heaven and you just KNOW that God is in it. My ladies love you already, most of them are hearing you for the first time. Be sure I am dragging them all to Lowell, MA in October to see you...I love you Beth...with all my heart :)

I just have to laugh at you Texas girls! I'm from Pennsylvania, and we have a 4 foot high pile of snow on either side of our front walk!! That's remnants of the Feb.11th storm that came on the heels of the Feb.6th storm. This morning we awoke to some "slush". We pushed it aside and kept on walking!
But God bless you dear sisters anyway!!
Love you!

Oh, when I prayed for your Tuesday night teaching this morning, I didn't think to pray about the weather!

Hey just because we have the equipment to deal with the snow up here doesn't mean we have to like it, haha.
I had my seminary classes last night (Isaiah and Hebrews!) in Rochester, NY, a drive that normally takes 1 1/2 hours from where I live outside Syracuse. I don't get out of school until 10pm, and it took me an extra half hour to get home because the roads were not good. I did remind God how much I hate driving in snowstorms.

But the coolest part was that the longer driving time gave me opportunity to listen to extra podcasts. Last night between the drive there and back, I listened to 1 of your teachings from Life Today and 6 Charles Stanley messages. I was amazed at how God used every one to speak so clearly to me about issues I have been facing lately.

I have had a very difficult time over the last week or so, and the first thing I heard on the way home was Dr. Stanley asking, "Do you ever wonder why God allows suffering in our lives?"
His answer was that God's plan is more important than our temporary comfort. God has been explaining to me over the last few days to not focus on the pain or problem, but to thank him for his constant presence through the storms of life.

God did get me back to my sweet dog safe and sound last night, as usual. Praying all of you folks in TX are comforted by his presence through the storm tonight.

It seems like the winter for cancellations.

We have had three weeks of Bible Study and two weeks of church cancelled recently due to the Blizzards in the Mid-Atlantic area.

This morning was our first week back since early February, we are studying "TO Live is Christ" and I have to say it is life changing. Thank you so much Beth for your dedication to teaching God's Word.

I am not in that area, but I heartily voice a thank you to anyone who cancels in lieu of bad weather. As one who teaches where they rarely cancel, I know it makes me feel unloved to have to get out on the ice and snow like we do. It feels great to be "loved" and greatly cared for. I cannot wait for your bible studies to be put to DVD. I am watching "The Inheritance" for the second time. Amazing and life changing. Thank you so much for your hard work and sweet breath of God. ---- G.

Definitely getting the word out. Been texting all my peeps. And vice versa.

However, completely honest here, as sad as I am we're canceling, I'm THRILLED that I get another week to catch up on my homework. I'm behind.

Normally my Tuesdays are chalk full with work, then straight to BS, then off to watch Biggest Loser. Tonight none of those things are happening due to weather and the Olympics. I think I know what He's telling me to do instead! :)

Stay warm!

I've loved snow my whole life. And I mean Loved it! But us Nashville girls are about sick of it. For the first time in ten years of helping with Bible studies, we had to miss Three weeks of lessons. We finally got to meet this morning for the first time in a month. We were so relieved. I told the girls I was about to have a season of prayer and fasting to find out what in the world I'd done to get fired from Bible study! :)
Bless you all. My heart goes out to you. By the way, to catch up we did two videos back to back today. My southern accent always cranks up a notch when I've listened to Beth a bunch. I love it.
Love you all

Yes, in Wyoming we know how to deal with this stuff but I know this is not a common occurance for Texas. I have about a foot of snow in my yard that has been there since October...

A month ago today we were in SUNNY, WARM Houston!! God blessed that time in SO many ways!

Dear Beth:

What is up with this weather. I live in northeast Ohio, and we are having the same kind of weather as you. Of course, we are a little use to it up here, but I still hate driving in it and through it. As you would say, I am sick of it. You southern girls be careful walking on the sidewalks and such--so you don't fall. Good idea to stay home and be safe. Make some old fashioned hot chocolate and snuggle up with your snuggie.

After being called in to work to pass out paychecks to the men,I survived the drive on thick ice--8 miles worth. This is Atlanta and you don't mess with ice. As soon as the men trickled in and got their checks, they left for home. I had heard them on their phones telling their wives not to go out. I was alone in the office for the day feeling like a fool for risking my life over paychecks. Thankfully, by the time I left, the sun had melted the ice enough so the ride home was easier. Our latest snow event had me telling the men that I was leaving early, and they couldn't understand why. This time I stood my ground. I told them that I may work in a place filled with testosterone, but I was a lady and expected to be treated like one. Hooray for all men who protect their treasures! Hooray for wisdom!

Beth, I recently had a real eye-opening moment in understanding scripture. I have always wondered why Eve could eat the fruit the serpent tempted her with. Who really wants to know all there is to know about the universe? I really don't!! BUT I was listening to Dr. Lutzer of the Moody Institute in Chicago...he made a most interesting point about this scripture.

He said the serpent tempted Eve with having the knowledge and wisdom of God, but went a step further. He said she was tempted in wisdom to the point of having independence instead of the dependence on God. THIS I can relate to! Who does not want to be independent...make their own decisions....rely on themselves instead of someone else? WOW! What a revelation....OK, now I can most definitely relate to Eve and eating of the fruit. When looking at this verse from this perspective, I must admit I take (and eat) this tempting fruit every dad gum day!! WHEW, what a revelation!!

Thank you Dr. Lutzer for a lesson with just the right words!
