Siesta Scripture Memory Team Celebration

We're just days away from our big celebration, ladies! I can't believe it's almost here. There are about 500 of you coming, which is going to make for a really fun group. I'd like to share a few last minute things with you.

1) Siesta Anne told us that some Siestas have decided to wear pink feather boas while they're traveling and once they're in Houston so that they can easily recognize each other. They asked me to let all the Siestas know so that everyone can join in the fun. We've heard that Michaels and Hobby Lobby might be good places to look for those. Siesta Teri even came up with a verse to support the boas. (If anyone needs an extra verse to memorize last minute, here you go!)

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." (Psalm 91:4)

Love it!

2) We sent out an email earlier this month with information on how to order a Siesta SMT Celebration t-shirt. We know that some of you did not get this email because it was caught in your spam filter and we're so sorry about that. It is too late to order a t-shirt, but we will have a few extras available for purchase at the resource table on Friday evening.

3) Beth will be dressing casually this weekend and she welcomes you to do the same.

4) The most frequently asked question we've had is where to eat Mexican food. That makes me laugh so hard, y'all!

Here are my picks for Tex-Mex close-ish to the church.
Pappasito's
Escalante's
Guadalajara
Ninfa's on Post Oak

Houston girls, am I leaving something out?

If you love fine Chinese food and you happen to be at the Galleria, my current favorite is Gigi's Asian Bistro, which is located in the mall.

Oh my word, I am so hungry right now!

If you're here on Thursday night and want to splurge on a great steak, we have a great restaurant called Taste of Texas. If you go on a weekend night you'll have a very long wait, which is why Thursday night might be best.

5) Don't forget your Scripture spirals!

6) Here's a link to our Siesta SMT Celebration FAQ page in case anyone has a question.

Friday can't come soon enough!
Love,
Amanda

First time I have been on an airplane without my children in 3 years. What will I do without the stress of getting through security with enough homeland security approved baby/toddler drinks and snacks to survive a flight. Just me, my spiral, and of course some extra Galleria spending $! Wahooooo! So excited for a Siesta-filled, mommy alone-time weekend.

Thanks for posting about the boas, Amanda!

Siestas, how terrible would it be if we didn't recognize each other in the airport or restaurants or hotels? Wrap yourself in a glorious pink boa and we will definitely be able to find each other. We'll look awesome too. :-)

I so wish I could be with y'all. I am reviewing my 2009 spiral every weekend and am on verse 2 for 2010 on my own. THANKS for blessing me with this challenge last year. God used the discipline to transform me. I can learn (so much deeper than just memorizing) scripture!! This blows me away and is nothing short of a miracle. I will be y'all in spirit and am praying for all at the celebration this weekend. Have a blast! CONGRATULATIONS to all who learned their verses.

Thank you so much for posting this. I CANNOT WAIT!!

My only real concern is the humidity level. I would really like for my hair to look cute, but humidity and my hair are not friends. So I'm sefishly hoping that Houston is still experiencing that streak of low-humidity. If not, I'll be the girl in the bathroom flat-ironing her at every break! ;)

My husband made the statement that he had never wanted to do anything bad enough to get up at 3:00 a.m, drive an hour to an airport to fly to Houston Texas and return back to said airport the following night by 9:30 p.m. to drive an hour home. I told him I've NEVER wanted to do anything this bad either. Now we've thrown in pink boas! I just thought I was excited! Praying for our safety, our health and that we all get there on time. So excited about praising our God with all the other siestas!

I bailed out of the Siesta Scripture Memory Team pretty early on basically because I am a wife, mom, part time worker, and full time college student. I found myself stressing out about memorizing scripture amidst writing term papers, coaching soccer, and trying to keep my GPA good enough to keep my scholarships. (I have a 3.942 right now...blasted B+ my first semester, grrrr.) Anyway, reading this blog post made me SO happy. I am ecstatic for my siestas who've stuck it out all the way to the end! It makes me so happy that they'll be able to enjoy a weekend together celebrating a job well done! I pray you all have an awesome time in the presence of the One! Yaaaaaaaaaaay! It's so good!

GREAT JOB SIESTAS!

This is a special note to annonymous. I hold you Pastor's Wives in the hightest of esteem. My heart is breaking that everything is crumbling around you. Since New Year's Day, the same can be said of mine. I can't even explain what has been happening to our family but I can tell you this, hold on to our Lord Jesus Christ with all that you have. He is holding on to you. When our world crashed in on January 1st of this year I went straight to my Bible and this is where the Holy Spirit brought me to Romans 5:1-5 Apologetics Study Bible:
"Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Also through Him, we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope does not disappoint, because God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spririt who was given to us."

Even though our affliction is ever present we are giving the Lord praise. I know he is there with us through all we are going through and he will see us through this. I pray that you can praise Him through your storm. I will be praying for you my dear Sister in Christ.

In His Love, Lori

If anyone needs to be carted around town, I have a big suburban!
Pappasito's is second to none! The one on Richmond near Hillcroft is not nearly as crowded as the I-10 location!

If you like Dim-Sum, Gigi's Asian Bistro in the Galleria is the place to go. All you care to enjoy for one low price of $15.95 or you can just order off the menu. Be sure and sit in the cherry blossom dining room.

If anyone cares to go to Lakewood Church on Saturday night, I could probably help you out with some close seating. Drop me an email.

Blessings on your travel and time in Houston!!

I'll be digging through my daughter's dress-up box that has long been packed away (she just turned 16!) cuz I vividly recall her strutting her stuff - my little diva, with that long gorgeous pink boa trailing behind her!

Does anyone want to meet for dinner Friday night at Pappasito's? My darling young friend Lisa and are planning to head there at 4:30 and would love to meet up with some siestas :-) If you'd like to join us, email me at ahroeser@comcast.net or call my cell at 248-894-5604 and I'll reserve a table. Just can't believe that in a few short days I'll be worshiping God with Travis and you all, receiving a message from Him through Beth, and sharing fellowship with all you siestas in Christ - all icing on the cake of the incredible blessing of hiding God's word in my heart! Just too much to take in!!

On another note, amidst all my joy, my heart is heavy for Pastors wife who posted at 6:24. I am praying for you. Hold onto that pledge of faith and remember that things are not always as they appear. They may look to be crumbling but God promises to work ALL things for good when we love Him. In 2 Chronicles 20, God's people are facing a vast army and don't know what to do, but they keep their eyes on Him and He says "don't be afraid or discouraged, ... for the battle is not yours but God's." He can and will do what He says!

To the sweet pastor's wife at 6:24, please know that I (a pastor's wife as well) am praying for you precious one.

You keep hanging on to that 5 statement pledge of faith! Reach up and grab hold of Jesus' hand and hold tight. If you read this, feel free to email me. I would love to pray for you by name.

Praying for safe travels for everyone, praying for Siesta Momma and especially that God will show up in a HUGE way! Can't wait to see and hear all about it! = )

Dear Annonoymous pastor's wife at 6:24 PM 1/18/10,

I do not know what your 5 statements of faith are... but I am praying for you tonight that you would cling tightly to Jesus. I will be lifting you up over the next several days!

********************

As far as the SSMT Celebration goes-- I am so excited for you all!! I will be praying for you all. So wish I could have made it there in person this year (need to put priorities in the right place, and right now my sweet 14-month-old girl needs her mommy!), but I know that the great great gift was memorizing the verses! It was such a wonderful adventure this year. Those verses helped me in HUGE ways through some pretty big stuff. And I've started it again this year on my own. Thanks to all of you for the encouragement to keep going and to truly hide God's word in my heart. I am so glad for true sisters in Christ that can support each other in our pursuit of more of HIM!

Angela

P.S. I'm kind of out of the loop, but did I see somewhere that we might be able to get a copy of the video or something of the teaching times?

Hi Y'all,

I am excited for those of you who are able to attend this event, but am feeling a bit sad about not being able to come join in all the fun !!! But, I do know that it will be a BLAST !

Having gone to the live events and SS classes in Houston for as long as the Lord allowed me to do so, I know that I know that the Lord will "BE THERE" with all of Y'all !!! And, I will be praying for each one of you !

I did manage to memorize almost all of my Scripture verses, though, which He surprised me, as even though I am an elementary school teacher, memorization has always been difficult for me.

T-shirts ??? Could we still get one, somehow ???

I will likely be working on my study on Esther this week during my free time, and it is starting to get "interesting" now... Esther just found out about what Haman has 'planned', and everyone is going into fasting and prayer...

Love you all,

In Christ,

"and please be with mama as she goes to Bethlehem cause I will miss her."
So I ask,
"Baby where did you say I was going?"
"Bethlehem".
"When am I going to Bethlehem?"
"You said you were going to see that lady."
"Beth Moore, baby, Beth Moore"
It made me laugh. So excited to get there!

Anonymous Pastor's Wife - As a pastor's wife, I know how hard it can be when difficult times come. Somehow that position just makes you feel very isolated at times. I am praying you have someone who can be "Jesus with skin on" during this time to walk with you through this. And obviously from all the other posts - You are NOT isolated and alone!

As for this weekend, I am so excited I can't stand it!! I had so wanted to attend the pastor's wife event last year and just couldn't afford to, so I am convinced my God's perfect timing that THIS is the weekend I am to gather with my sweet siestas. I am SO excited to see everyone this weekend!
I've dreamed twice this week about forgetting my Scripture verses! I've memorized Psalm 139 and in one of my dreams Beth told those of us who had memorized Psalms to kneel and recite our verses. I was totally blank and my friend next to me wasn't saying anything. I whispered to her and asked why she wasn't saying her verses and she said she was saying them to herself. :)
The next night I dreamed I kept getting stuck on verse 4!
I'm anxious to see friends I haven't seen since San Antonio and to meet many, many new Siestas.
This morning on page 45 of Beth Moore's "Praying God's Word" right at the top of the page it says:
"Lord, You cover me with Your feathers and grant me refuge under Your wings;....."
I'm thinking that's conformation that I need to get out today and find a pink boa. :)
We'll miss all of you who aren't able to come.
Love to all ~

Wish I could be there too! However, I knew back in the fall that there might be a life change coming our way and knew that the timing was not going to be good for me to be away and I was right. My husband just took a job at another university 1.5 hours away.

Grace and I are finishing up the school year here. I just met with the realtor last week and am trying to get my house "de-cluttered" so that we can put it on the market. This is the only home Grace remembers and she has so many close friends here that she will miss.

So if you could, would you pray for us during this transition? Especially pray that God would provide Grace a BFF in our new town. We know this is the path that He has laid out for us and are trusting Him with every detail of this move!

Have a wonderful time this weekend! I'll certainly be thinking of you all. ;o)

For those who want to try some BBQ: Goode Company BBQ, 8911 Katy Frwy., 77024 (a few miles from church on I-10).

For a really awesome gem & mineral exhibit: Houston Museum of Natural Science (http://www.hmns.org/exhibits/permanent_exhibits/gems_minerals.asp). Many are uncut specimens, in their natural state; these are my favorite.

For those going to the Galleria Mall, if you're from out-of-state (or country), you can get a 10% traveler's coupon to use in Macy's. Just go to their gift wrap/customer service desk and ask for it (it's not advertised). BTW, this is available at most Macy's around the country.

I won't make it to the Celebration, but I'll be praying for y'all to have a wonderful time together with the Lord!

Blessings,
Karen K.

Have a good weekend and celebrate to the max. This is an accomplishment that deserves a good celebration!

I do hope you all can video parts of the weekend celebration....and PLEASE take pictures. Amanda and Melissa take pictures...we know because we see the evidence on this blog. AND you have a wonderful photographer...PLEASE hire him for the weekend! ;-)

I am reading the posts on this blog....there are quite a few folks that will NOT be able to make the weekend celebration...and what an accomplishment for the year of 2009. PLEASE bring it to us as well!

Thanks!!

I'll be honest. Truthful. Blunt. To the point.

I AM G~R~E~E~N!!!!!!!!!!!

From the top of my head, to the tippy tip of my toes, and all in-between.... I AM GREEN!!!!

I didn't start this Scripture Memory Trail with you girls. I found out about it waaaay into your path. I felt it too late, I was too far behind, I couldn't even see a single soul from way behind where I lQQked. No binoculars were powerful enough. I was afraid I'd get lost... and no one would know.... for ya'll had long since left and traveled so far on this road without me.

And now................

GREEN reeks from every single one of my pores! I think I am a stench to all those around me. IF you smell that??? If you smell that something funny smell, that's me... in my green!

So.

I won't get to go. I won't get to participate if I did. I don't guess ya'll would possibly even let me in?

Just in case though, just in case ya'll see a GREEN girl (with an added GREEN BOA, of course!) standing to the side with her jealousy smell know that you've just seen me... a me that is horribly green of ya'lls glorious and beautiful trip! GREEN!!!??!! When it's P!NK that is my favorite color!!!!

I LOVE YOU GUYS despite myself!

I'm so proud of ya'll I can hardly stand it! I stand proud looking at your radiate faces from afar!

May you walk with a glorified HIGH in the footsteps of the AlMighty!

Love to you all! :)

I wish I could be there! I have the Siesta Scripture Memory Team on my church's prayer chain this week.

I have a bright pink scarf I can wear, if I don't make it out to get a pink boa for God's G.A.L.S. bible study on Saturday morning.

I'd hope to make it as I could combine it with a visit to my husband's family, but it was not to be. My SIL lives only 15 minutes from the church.

I will be praying for all of you.

Blessings & Peace,

Anon 1:12, that is the enemy trying to discourage you! I understand your stress but there is no need to carry that. No worries if we don't say our verses exactly right - God knows we memorized them. Take some deep breaths and pack your bags, sister!

Whaaa!!! Wish I could be there! I will be thinking and praying for your time together. I have my spiral almost full! And even gave some to my Sunday School ladies to encourage them to start their own from the first of the year - what a great resource. Such a learning experience to look back at the Scriptures I chose over the past year and all that God has taught me through His Word - thanks Beth for the challenge and encouragement!!!
Do you think Beth will be able to do a recap for all of us who cannot attend, but did the SMV, but can't attend? Pictures please!!!

But I'm happy for ya'll. I really am. As happy as I can be in my green.

Okay. And I'll hush now. I'm gonna go powder my nose and put lipstick on or something! And perfume! LOTS of perfume!

Hey Amanda! I've been so blue about not being able to join the fun this weekend. I will definitely keep the whole bunch of Siestas in my prayers as they travel. And I may make my husband listen to my verses this weekend, so that I can feel apart of it. :)

For those of us who cannot be there, I remember you said something about videotaping the weekend. How can we access a copy of that?

Thanks! And much love!

To anonymous @ 1:12 –

I agree with Amanda…it’s totally the enemy!!
As the weekend gets closer, I am having to fight off discouraging thoughts too. From the concern that I’ll forget my verses (or lose my spiral)…to being sad because I had fantasized about losing a bunch of weight and feeling cute in a new outfit, but instead, I weigh more and I’m afraid my insecurity will rob me of the joy I’m so looking forward to experiencing.
Seriously, if it’s not one thing, it’s another.
I will pray for you.
I arrive on Thursday – if you want to get together early to practice our verses and pray for eachother, I’d love it (email me if you do)! :)

I may be risking embarrassment, too, if we're to be put on the spot, which I'm sure we won't be; I "meditated" on my verses more than "memorized" them all last year - which was wonderful. Memorization has never been my strong suit. COME ON & HAVE FUN!
Maybe God will see fit to put us in the same "group" or seated next to one another.

I am just so thrilled that I was albe to leave 24 verses in 2009 (who'd have ever had guessed it?) and excited to be starting a branch-off SMT with my siestas in my home church -even without the trip to Houston, this memory verse team as been life-changing :-)

Praying for Anonymous at 1:12 AM who is nervous about going. I can understand the nerves but just keep trying to remind yourself that these siestas are a lovely bunch of women! Praying that God will do a wonderful and unexpected thing in your life this weekend.

I am sooo excited for this weekend! And, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am to be present.... You see, my dear grandpa died last Saturday. He was 90 years old, and a Godly man. I live in Ohio, my grandparents live in my hometown - Centralia, WA. The Lord worked out all the details for me to spend the entire week with my grieving grandma who is really struggling with this new phase of life(my grandparents celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on Dec. 30th). My grandma is the sweetest, Godliest lady I know. Both she and my grandpa are/were ordained ministers in the Free Methodist Church. Their model of Godly living, a focused devotion to the Bible and prayer, and their love of family has shaped me more than any other human force on this earth.

The funeral is on Thursday, and I will speak at the service. I will fly out on Friday morning for Houston.

When I originally purchased my airlines ticket to Houston, I also purchased flight insurance (for the first time ever). It appears that I will be fully reimbursed for my originally booked ticket. In flying from Columbus to Seattle to Houston, and back to Columbus, the Lord provided a wonderful deal. He knows what we need; He is so good!!

I am getting more and more excited about this weekend. I had flat out decided against coming wanting so much for my friend to be with me (who went to be with the Lord in Nov). My husband surprised me last Tues. with a plane ticket, so I was going whether I liked it or not - ha! It's a bittersweet time for me knowing how much fun we were going to have together. God knows and will walk with me every step.

For the dear pastor's wife who is going through a crisis and asking for prayer, I'm praying honey. You hang in there.

And Deidre, we are all so thrilled that your husband bought you that ticket and is putting you on a plane. I've thought of you often since you shared your story about losing your friend. Your siestas are looking forward to seeing you.

To all of you who don't know what a boa is, its a long, feathery thing that looks like a scarfe made from feathers!
I found mine yesterday at Michael's in Canada, but I told my family "I'm keeping this in my suitcase until I reach the hotel and see that others are wearing it!"
