Conversations

Amanda: Hey Mama!

Beth: Good morning, sweet darlin'! How are you and my boy this morning?

Amanda: We're good. I know I'm calling you really early, but I had to tell you that Jackson woke up crying for you.

Beth: He did?

Amanda: Yes! He was in his bed wailing, "Bibby! Bibby! Bibby!" It was so sad. I think he had a dream about you.

Beth: Awww, was he missing his Bibby?

Amanda: Yes. Isn't that sweet? I'm putting you on speaker phone so you can talk to him.

Beth: Hi Jackson! It's Bibby! How are you this morning? Are you watching Sesame Street?

Jackson:----------

Beth: Jackson, are you gonna come to Bibby's house soon and play with Beansie?

Jackson:----------

Amanda: He doesn't seem to want to talk today. Maybe he dreamed you were giving him a spanking.

Beth: (Audible gasp) I know who needs a spanking! Mommy does!

That is just Hilarious. Thanks for sharing. That is just like the way kids are. My sister's in-laws came over last weekend to set with Brayden (2) my nephew while we were all at the hospital with my dad and he told his grandmother that she just needed to go home. He is two. doesn't see this set of grandparents very often. That is totaly a story for another time. The point is you just never know what kids will say and do now a days. Have a great weekend we will be praying for you and the team at this first conference.

Amanda,

Subject 1:
Did your mommy ever make you pick your own switch or "hickry" (my grandmother's pronunciation)? Mine would, and then she would always add as I approached the door with head hanging down to my feet - "And if it's not big enough I'll 'wear-it-out' on you & get another one!" I ALWAYS broke the largest I could find & Mother would ALWAYS cool down before I got back. Whew....

Subject 2:
I have a grandson who is also a "BREATHER"! It's so funny; you know they're listening because you can hear them, but they just won't speak. And all a "Bibby" or a "G" wants is to hear the sweetest of all sounds - a word from them.

"G" from Birmingham

You are so funny! He wouldn't dream about you spanking him, he would dream his Bibby wasn't there to save him from one! After you said what you did to Amanda, she should have said, "I feel better!"
Love you friend and praying for you this weekend!

I soooo needed a laugh today! Sick & grumpy babies - and mommy too, financial worries, house looking like someone turned it upside down and shook it, no shower this morning - again, snowing - again, man working late - again, man working Saturday - again ... it is just all too much today. I called my own mommy this morning (cause it is the ONLY time to get a hold of her) and got her message!
All of this whining to say that I needed a laugh today and a smile... and as always, got just what I needed here!
Love you all!

And that is IT!!!!! She won't answer questions, she won't tell her anything..."Hello? Hey." is all she offers up! :)

Now, Beth--put the wooden spoon up...we moms have to say stuff like that so our kids remember to love us like they love their grandparents!!

Many blessings for this weekend!

Wonder if I could get away with that now since they are 27 and 29???? I can guarantee that my momma would whip me, even at the ripe old age of 50, if I needed it . . . Amanda,

LOL! Boy, I needed that today.

May I ask for prayers…

Tonight, the women’s ministry at our church is hosting a large-scale outreach event called Chick Night. It’s an high-energy, free event for women college age and up that we host twice a year. I oversee these events and for the first time tonight I am delivering a short gospel presentation in front of an audience. (I’m shaking already and the event is not for another five hours.)

Would you please pray…
1. Pray for Future Christians to attend (all obstacles, seen and unseen, would be removed).

2. Pray for all the logistics to come together and the weather would be good.

3. Pray that God shows up in a Mighty Way and uses the worship/speakers to open the hearts of the chicks.

4. Pray for the invitation that the Holy Spirit draw Future Christians to invite Christ to be their Lord and Savior.

And....B E L I E V E! Mark 11:24 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

Join me in prayer that this Leap Day will be a LEAP-OF-JOY DAY we'll not soon forget in Jacksonville and with Beth, LPM and Travis in Vancouver!

Thank you very much.

Until All Have Heard,
Susan

P.S. You are in my poor prayers for Vancouver AND (yeah!! grin) upcoming Jacksonville LP event.

My just-turned-four grandson calls me "Gra" and I love it when he talks to me on the phone. Never for very long though because he is extremely busy! I just read an article in a magazine that reminded me of you Beth. It says:
"Before Starbucks, coffee was mostly tepid swill sipped solo at 7 a.m. by bleary-eyed customers clutching Styrofoam cups. But now, coffee has become a social custom that demands an unspoken compliance. We dress for Coffee. We meet people, groomed and enthusiastic, in coffee shops. Now, getting a cup of coffee is an event we anticipate and savor." Sounds just right, doesn't it! Thank you for all you do.
We all love you dearly!!

I know Beth would never use her wooden spoon even if she found it!! ;-) And I do remember having to go get my own switch, and I walked ever so slow back to the house! I don't think my Mama ever really used one, but I knew she meant business and I didn't want to push her!

Thanks for sharing and travel safe!

Amanda, I have a daughter who's 4 and sometimes I think she would rather be with her "goggie" than me! I never had a grandma who made such a fuss over me so I LOVE that they are two peas in a pod when they are together. My mom (who lives 22 hours away) will be here a week and I won't get a hug or kiss or nothing from my baby girl unless I seek it out! Somehow I'm swept out of sight for a while, which allows me to sit back and watch my moma love on my baby girl the way she used to love on me! I am so thankful for that!

I'm sure it's much the same in your family, but I'm convinced my mil gives my kids "nanny crack" to make them want her... my 2 y/o comes home and cries the entire evening, "Nanny, come back!!!" I can't wait to be a grand-ma (nana is what they'll call me... I'm sure of it)!

My Dad looks each of my children in the eyes when we leave their house and solemnly says, "I am sorry we must send you home with the Warden. I promise to make it up it you." My kids roll on the grass and giggle with delight every single time and now they sing nobody knows the trouble I've seen..... It is quite the routine! My eldest daughter calls him The Blessing! It cracks me up!

Too funny! I hope to one day experience the joy of being a grandmother so that I can just love on those little ones. From what i hear, there is nothing like it!

How Sweet!! I have had the same reaction when my daughters have called me to talk to my smaller grandchildren over the phone....complete silence but according to the mommies, big smiles!! It's always "heart-warming".

Oh, that's too cute. And so typical of a little one!

And I bet not long after you hung up he was talking non-stop about her, right?!

Hey Amanda, I knew I needed to check the blog first thing this morning. It was precious. As I woke up, Beth was on my mind in a huge way so I started praying for her and lifting her up to our Savior! I know that God will provide her with what she needs!

Beth, you are being cradled in the arms of our Savior -- He will provide for you!!!!!! -JH

This happened to me so many times especially when my teen boys were little, made the call and no talking! Makes us mommies look bad! Gotta love those babies!

Loved reading this "conversation"... And Beth's comments about wooden spoons brought back many memories from my childhood:) Mom always seemed to have those spoons wherever she needed them: in the car, in the diaper bag, or in the house. But let me tell you, the loving discipline worked:)

But now that my mom is a Grandma, I think she would agree with Beth: Those wooden spoons were made for our hynies, not the little cheeks of the grandkids! It's our job now to discipline, and theirs to spoil:)

Much love to your sweet family!
Love,
Tara

The Man's momma had "the board of education"...there was much threatening and waving it about...not much contact with a sweet little rear, however.

My mom had "the fastest slipper in the east". She would whip that house slipper off so fast it would be holstered back on her foot and our bottom would be stinging before we even knew what, literally, hit us!

I broke many a wooden spoon...couldn't bear to pop their bottoms with it very often...I broke them all slammin' them down on the counter when I couldn't bring myself to swat their cutie patooties with it.

Amanda one time I was trying unsuccessfully to get my son to eat his PBJ. I finally noticed that he had orange dust on his fingers that strongly resembled Cheetos residue, but I knew I had not given him any Cheetos. Heavens sake I was trying to get him to eat a PBJ. I looked at my mother, the very same woman who had made me sit at a table for 4 yes FOUR hours one night over A, 1, singular green bean to see the most guilty face I had ever seen. Her reply was that he didn't want a sandwhich, he wanted a cheeto. She had been sneaking him chips behind my back and even making up excuses to get me to leave the table. But, my children ADORE her.

Too funny! I can sure picture Jackson and Bibby praise dancing but not spanking! My daughter, now 27, tried to hide the wooden spanking spoon at age 2. When I found it in a cabinet stuck behind a bag of old craft supplies, I did have to laugh!

too funny!! You two could be a comedy-duo!

Whenever I call someone because of my 21 mos old daughter ("she's asking for you, Daddy!" "She said 'gam' and I knew that meant you, Grandma!") and I put my daughter on the phone, there is nothing but crickets chirping in the background. Silence. Except, of course, for my mommmy voice saying, "Say Hi to Daddy, baby. Can you say Hi Daddy?" So embarassing, and hard on poor Daddy who's at the office, talking up a storm in his best baby-talk voice. :-)

WHat about a wooden PAINT Stir? That works wonders around here. All we have to do it tap it on the corner of something and all activity ceases. Plus the threat of a "RED HAND-PRINT" also works wonders.
I know all about the Hickry too. If I got one too little my Momma went and got a limb. Ouch!!!

My brother is in Iraq, and my 3 year old is constantly asking if she can write an email to Uncle Matt. She does the typing herself, an sometimes she lets me "translate". But I know when we see him again this summer (PTL) she will clam up and cling to my leg! Kids.

Girls, I am preparing for my group to come over tomorrow where the Lord teaches me and then I teach them. I am answering their questions on various things and I am teaching them how to find the answers in the word as well. I am dealing with the issue of losing salvation and eternal guarantee...I know tough questions, I am thrilled they are asking and we are diving into the deep waters of Gods Word together...As I am in the process of this I am referencing some of the material i have studied with Beth. I thought it would be fun on an occassion to take each of the studies on different occasions and let us go through our old books that have been worn and underlined as we have experienced the Lord through His Word. i.e. I am looking in LBY and getting tickled over the lessons I have learned there, I would love to share and hear how "siestaville" was moved through some of these lessons. Ok I know this post was out of the context of the original content, but I was preparing and had that thought. I love you! I rejoice with you. Blessings. Tiffany

My mom was babysitting her grandchildren one morning and they were extremely rambuncious. And after several requests to settle down with no results she reached into her utensil drawer and pulled out a wooden spoon and said "OK thats it, I have had enough", to which my little neice announced to her other little cousins "come quick, Nannys making cookies". They knew she wouldn't dream of using the wooden spoon on them, but they had seen it used many a time to make them their favorite cookies. That was over 10 years ago and my Mom still chuckles everytime she pulls out a wooden spoon to make her babies their cookies.
