The Wild World of Bible Study
Hey, Siestas! Y'all are just the most fun ever. I so enjoyed all your reactions to the "goods." I was also very tendered by our siesta who reminded us to pray for our single sisters who are fighting a few gray hairs (you can color those stinkin' thangs!) and frequent bouts of loneliness. I know a number of single women who wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, are serving God like crazy in all sorts of unhindered ways, and they'd about beat us to death with their handbags if we prayed them up a husband. But, we want to be faithful friends and prayer warriors for ANY of our siestas who are lonely. Including those who are married. Nothing makes you feel more alone than a bad marriage. I know because I've had one. And I don't have one now. Keith and I like to say that we've each been married to ten different people and they all look suspiciously similar.
On a very encouraging note, I was glad to also hear from the sister who has been burned by tons of girlfriends but is getting her feet wet again in Siestaville. I pray she'll find this a safe and fun enough place to venture back out into some great Godly friendships that last a lifetime. This is no replacement for that but it's a great encouragement to stay wildly connected to people and to be reminded why you want to. BigMama, I'm so sorry you've been under the weather! I feel like we live so close together I should bring you a pound cake.
OK, now this is the main thing that prompted me to hop online: I'm so pumped that such a number of you are starting "Stepping Up"! I loved that journey! Only one in the Psalms I've ever done. It's based on an analogy drawn from the pilgrimage the Israelites took to Jerusalem three times a year. I was so intrigued by the whole concept. I'd honestly never paid attention to the caption "A Song of Ascent" above certain psalms nor had I ever heard a lesson on it. The study is really different from the others - and on purpose. God's Word is so alive and fresh that there's no excuse for cookie cutter studies. I hope so much God uses it to take you to the next level with Him. I'm so honored that you'd allow me to step on those stairs with you.
While on the subject of Bible studies, dear Siesta who got the regular book version of Breaking Free rather than the workbook, if you really have some major stuff to deal with (and who doesn't?), please consider getting the workbook instead and perhaps giving the book to someone who isn't as likely to do an in-depth study. Those are my favorite candidates for what's called the "trade book" version of Breaking Free. For everyone else, the workbook is the way to take the journey. I'm a huge believer in the actual process of Bible study (i.e. turning to this Scripture and that, spending the time in tandem with God alone, writing down your responses, etc.) and never more so than in that particular journey. In Breaking Free, the process of poring over the Scriptures is itself a crucial part of the healing. Psalm 107:20 says "He sent forth His word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave." Boy, have I lived that reality.
Don't misunderstand what I'm saying. No one loves regular books more than me. I have at least two going at any given time. I've been greatly challenged and changed by book after book and even added to the shelves by writing more of them than anybody wanted to read. When it comes to deepest, lifelong healing, freedom from bondage, and equipping for anointed ministry, however, I am convinced that the in-depth, life-style study of God's Word is where it happens. I love plunging into it on my own but I also love a guidebook or map of sorts to steer my journey and that's what discipleship materials are all about. (I have done stacks of other people's studies. You might be a little amused that I'm doing the Breaking Free homework right now. It's the first time I've ever actually gone back and done the homework as a participant. It's been almost ten years since I wrote it so it's hitting me like crazy.) I love any sound study of God's Word. Digging into the depths of Scripture and having your mind deliberately and consistently renewed by God is what freedom is all about. Otherwise, we've got too many people to get mad at and never forgive as long as we live - and too many people to offend and never lay eyes on again. You and me - We need to be in SCRIPTURE!
Well, that's what I got on here to say. I guess you can tell Keith isn't home or I wouldn't have had the time to rattle on. I was just so excited about "Stepping Up" that I got on a Bible study roll. I'll go take an Advil now. I've worn myself out.

Dear Beth,
I would love a picture of you sitting doing homework in a Bible study workbook that you wrote! I love that! Always a student...never above learning. I caught that in you at Deeper Still in Nashville. Honey, if anyone could have literally hung on every word that came out of Kay's mouth, it was you my dear!
I will also be facilitating Stepping Up in February. I've had the biggest kick out of previewing the video lessons. I see all kinds of familiar faces. My friend Selma and Tina and Cyndi and, of course, that crazy old tenor guy that sits near me in choir some Sundays....what's his name again??? :)
I absolutely cannot wait to dive into it. So much so that I refuse to pick up my workbook at the church office for fear that I will forge ahead without the sweet girls that will join me in February. I don't want to spoil that moment of opening those books together on that first night.
And so I ask you, like you have asked us hundreds of times...
DON'T YOU JUST LOVE HIS WORD???
Blessings, friend!
Dori
Thank you so much for reaffirming that one time isn't always enough ... and while some folks need to break free from breaking free ... maybe thinking through some of the points a second time is worth the effort -
I just couldn't do it all at once!
Beth,
"Stepping Up" is wonderful!!! I leaned SO much about the Feasts that I never knew. It is ALWAYS amazing to me how you can get caught up in a season of study - how more than one preacher/teacher teaches on a subject. Well, I was in the season to hear from more than one person on the feasts - I have a whole new respect for the Jewish culture and its people. I also have a whole new respect for Jesus and how He is the perfect lamb for His people.
If anyone desires a whole new take on scripture, venture out there to J. Vernon McGee's "Thru the Bible" series - it has blown me away and I'm sure you will find something you did not know about scripture!!
As Beth always says, isn't God creative and wonderful!!!
Janet
I love it when you get on a role because we benefit! This is an amazing tool that we are fortunate to have so that the author and Bible study leader that we all esteem can become real to us and therefore very credible and trusted. By opening yourself up to us and inviting us into your personal and professional world(the entry about the spittle coming out of your mouth)helps me to NOT hold you up to a place of unhealthy "idolship" (I think I just made up that word) You are a real woman, a real sinner saved by God's perfect grace! Thank you so much Beth, Amanda and soon to be. . . Mrs. Fitzpatrick!
Carrie
Miss Beth (and Amanda and Melissa), thank you so much or having this blog. Seriously, it uplifts my day to read it and now I feel like you're my "Mama Beth"(Mama ___ is what I call lots of my friend' moms). Thanks and I hope God rains blessings down upon your family.
As for your Bible study, I'm excited for all of y'all. I've never gotten to do one of your Bible Studies, but Breaking Free is first on my list for when this semester starts to wind down. I will definitey need it by then,I can already tell. I'm from a small Georgia town, so it might take that long to get people into doing a Bible Study. Regardless, I'm going to do it even if I have to do it alone. :)
You make me smile :)
My Chris and I are finishing Daniel together and "Stepping Up" is what I asked for for Christmas.
In fact I told Chris just today, if Beth had money to spend and choose between a Bible study or a new outfit and haircut, I think she'd get a Bible study, too! So I'll just have to look cute with longer hair and an older cute outfit for now! Can't wait to take the journey! Chris, too...even though you call him "girlfriend." :) Hee hee.
He lives for stories about Keith and shooting. Keith has one person in Colorado who'd buy his hunting devotional!
Love you,
Holly
Beth, I loved the Breaking Free book. But with your recommendation I think I might try the study guide. We did it at our church about 4 years ago or so but without the workbook because it was our first study of yours and being newbies we were clueless. I reread the book last year and discovered God's amazing love for me that I actually sent you a poem that was in response to one chapter in particular. Anyway all that to say I love studying the scriptures too and love, love, love when they become alive and fresh. I actually wrote in my journal the other day "God I am so jazzed about Your Word"...what a goofy phrase "jazzed about" But I look forward with great anticipation to rework Breaking Free and begin Stepping Up. A girlfriend of mine once called me the "Psalm's girl". Everytime I read them I just go "AHHHHH, this is my favorite" and then it is on to the next which becomes my favorite.
Obviously my husband is away from home too and 3 of my children are wathcing a video... = ) Ramble, ramble,ramble...
Thanks for sharing. This community is a little surreal for me but I love to read the blog and comments.
I've been wanting to do "breaking free" for some time now. I think I'll go out and get right now...
Thank you for sharing yourself with the world. You have no idea how you've impacted numerous women (and men) around the globe... I'm in Oklahoma City!
Keep serving the Lord. You are an inspiration.
Our Living Beyond Yourself Intro last night went well and I just know this is going to bless our socks off!! You can head to my blog to hear all about it!! I am so excited!!!
Are there any of your studies that could be used in a marriage class??
Beth,
This is one of those blog entries where I feel like you have taken all of us "Siestas" under your wing. It is so great to be loved and encouraged by you personally. Thank you for making this blog a priority!
I am one of those Raleigh girls that got to be a part of Stepping Up! I am so excited about getting to facilitate it at my church!
Yes, let us never forget how important it is to be studying the Word! And I have to tell you, your studies make studying the Bible so much fun! Many of my ladies tell me they probably wouldn't just study the Bible on their own. They love and need a goup study to keep them focused.
There are a lot of people from my past that would never believe that I could be so enthusiastic about Bible study! (much less be a Bible study faciitator) But I have broken free! Praise the Lord!
Thank you Beth for giving us a part of you as you bring the Bible to life.
Love ya!
Kristi B.
I, just like everyone else, have found this blog to be a real blessing in my life. I look forward to each and every post. Thank you for establishing yet another way to minister. I am blessed because of it. Thank you!
Beth,
It was so great to read your responses to other postings. Our church is offering many different bible studies and "Steppin Up" is one of them. I really want to take it, but am unsure if I have time. It has been over a year since I have had the opportunity to participate in one and I have really missed it. Doing it by yourself sure isn't the same. I have just recently finished my Masters in Counseling and am going to start work, so I am unsure if I will have time. Life is so confusing. Thanks for all you do. It is so cool that you are doing the bible study yourself. That cracks me up. Love you. C L
O Mamma Beth how i love you so stkin much girl! God always seems to use you to encurage me whenevr i need it! Thank you for letting HIM use you in that way! O! im lovin stepping up! You are anioted!
Yes, Ms. Beth, there is something so refreshing about opening the Word of God, especially after a busy season we have all just finished. I feel exhausted, yet refreshed to be getting back to regular Bible Study, we are 3/4 of our way through Daniel, and it has been an awesome, educational journey to say the least.
My "new" Bible was in my hubby's car today, and I needed to look up a reference to something. It was a bit refreshing to open my "old" Bible and notice there is something different about pages that were once used but haven't been in a while. Does that make any sense? I loved looking over old scriptures I had marked years ago, I am excited about taking it on a trip this weekend and spending some time looking through the Word and old passages that meant something totally different years ago. (it still has my maiden name on it and was mine in college)
Anyway, yes, thanks for the reminder that we NEED to be in the word, not just reading, but studying, analyzing and pouring over God's words to us!!!
P. S. I have re-started "working-out"/ running, I was really jamming to Travis this morning singing Alive Forever Amen!!! Woo-hoo, I can't wait for San Antonio in August!!!
This blog helps me realize how much more I need God in my life. I tend to backslide way too often and need lots of prayer help to get where I need to be with Christ. Thank you for your sweet spirit and ministry. It helps me everyday to walk with God.
Beth thanks for your woundrefull words, you are so good,I am not gray yet but I am lonley & been married for 40 years, thanks for understand that.I come home many times from church & feel so lonley.or just feel lonley.I think were starting Stepping Up in March.I can't wait.I have done all your studies, all are my favorite,I just couldnt pick one because I have learned soemthign from them all.I pray all the siestas will have a great year & are doing well.God bless love siestas in christ Victoria NC
Sweet Beth,
There was a phase in my life where I was reading more books about God then I was spending time in the word of God. It's so sad to admit, but true.
Thanks for reminding us to keep the main thing, the main thing.
Love in Sweet Jesus,

Beth,
I just started the "Stepping Up" study. I normally do my Bible studies with a group of ladies, but I am doing this one alone. It is so cool that Lifeway now offers me (everyone) the chance to download the videos and watch them at home.
I am on my 4th day of homework of the first week. I was so nervous about writing my own paraphrase of Psalm 120, but once I started writing it..it just flowed and was my favorite part of that day's homework.
I want to go to the next level, and I am going to fight with God's help my number one stronghold of Fear so I can move "UP"...
Love you to pieces and then some...
I love you Beth. Thank you for saying you've had a bad marriage. What hope that gives me for mine. 14 years now and separated 6 months (counseling 2hrs a week so far for months and little progress). Hanging in is the toughest thing. I have 3 boys under age 11 and doing this for them (to break the chains of generational strongholds). I needed to read your blog today. Can't wait to try Stepping Up and Daniel. May God continue to pour out his Spirit on you and bless you and your family.

Can I just say... I so love you! and all my Siestas here. Thanks for the encouragement... Just finished Wising UP (alone) and in the middle of A Woman's Heart (alone by choice)..every DVD session has made me cry and kindle back the joy of the LORD! in my heart... thanks for that!!!! and also I think you might have just about helped me decide what to do next. I was given Psalm of the Ascents for my Birthday... I am crazy mad about all ya'll!...but crazy madly in love with Jesus the most!
Hi Beth,
Was just flipping through the pages of one of my fav. magazines Southern Lady (not living) and saw a great wedding gift idea for Melissa. Dinnerware with scripture on it! Not sure if you've seen it but here's the website: www.feedontheword.com It's great! You might even like some for yourself.
Hugs, AmyB
Ms Beth,
Now I am even more excited about starting "Stepping Up" in 2 weeks. We just finished Believing God and before that we had done Breaking Free. I tell you that Breaking Free study was incredible.
God really used that study to move many of the women to step forward and change their lives - PRAISE GOD!! Ironically it was the first study I had ever led and I have a HUGE fear of public speaking so I like to say that God made me Break Free first and the rest of the ladies followed :)
Enjoy your time b/f the hubby gets home and then enjoy that darling man!
Blessings,
Kim
Hello Siesta, After attending the Columbia weekend last spring, I came home to Florida energized to begin a study for a very special group of women in my home. We made it through Breaking Free! YEA!!! I am the siesta who emailed you all of the questions about week 4. We are now finishing up our time in Stepping Up. Our group is a little smaller, but more committed. We loved this study!! ...and adding the worship element was perfection!! So...where should we go next? We would so appreciate any and all suggestions!!
Dearest Beth,
I would love to do another one of your DVD studies (haven't really completed any....kept having babies in the middle of 'em!! heehee)!
However, we are a tiny little church and just can't afford it. Please pray that there will be a church here in our valley who has the study we're needing and its just sitting around waiting for us to rent or borrow!
Can't wait to get a look at "Stepping Up" when I get the chance!
Thanking our Lord for the blessing of YOU, sweet Beth!

Isn't it just wild to think of how God gives us the opportunities we always need?? I completed my first bible study just before Christmas...it was Breaking Free! I loved it so much. It seemed designed for my circumstances at the time (My daddy died young and unexpectedly just prior to the study--somehow each lesson connected in some way.) Now we are in Week 1 of Daniel. It is already speaking to my current status as well. My husband and I are building a house and trying to stay focused.
(On a side note- Our foundation is being poured next week and we have planned to be there to pray over it and carve scripture into the wet concrete. Any suggestions???)
I love this blog so much and check it daily. Thank you! AND Thank you for allowing God to inspire the great bible studies that I am absolutly hooked on! (I thought I would go crazy between studies!)
Beth-
My husband and I are doing "Believing God" online together. (I probably should've asked his permission before I divulged that information about him on the internet, but there it is. :)) Every Monday night he hooks his computer up to the TV so we can watch you bigger. :) Thank you for such a challenging study. I feel like I'm at a crossroads of faith...to continue with the status quo of Christianity, or to let go and continually believe. Oh, my breath literally catches in my throat every time I think about it. Anyway, thanks for all you do and all you are. You're a blessing to so many.
Amy
Beth your doing your own bible studynisnt thet neat.Oh wanted to till you Tues I came home & my 11 year old dog didnt come to meet me just layed there I ran to her , shes ok guess shes getting old ha.so i will be checking own her a lot now. Thanks for your post your so very good words.I do wish I could meet you all thought I feel i have .God bless a truley lovely women whom loves Jesus & everyone & is down to earth.Keep up your great work & thanks for listing to God & doing what he ask.Your an angel.God bless lvoe siestas in Christ Victoria
Oh...and my "handle" has always been "tulip", even before I knew about Calvin's TULIP! heehee
I met my husband in a Christian Chat room and my handle then was "God's Tulip" because, obviously, I LOVE tulips!! Simple, yet elegant....my life's motto and, I believe, God's Word!
It wasn't until after I married, that my husband showed me a booklet about Calvin's TULIP. (He's also into arguing doctrine and, right now, the differences between Calvinism and Armenianism.) I, on the other hand, love etymology so a good exegis study is always for me.
Keep it coming, sweet Beth!
In His Grace,

hey mama b!
i just have to say that i absolutely love my nanny job to the most precious little boy you've ever seen...but the Lord blessed me even more by pairing me up with his mama who loves bible study like her right arm. the annointing on your studies is just unbelievable, and a lot of times my eyeballs want to read more of them than my bank account can handle right now. but jesus knew that because my nanny-boss has been given a lot of your studies as gifts, and has already done them...so now when i watch her little one, i get to use her cds and old books for free!! how awesome is that! she just got "stepping up" for christmas so i am excitedly awaiting another hand-me-down...and am all up in David's business in the mean-time..
ps. i was just looking at my 'asher' notes from boone yesterday and laughing at your 'h-a-i-r-etic' joke :) hahahahahahahahaha :D
Hi Beth,
I have done almost all your studies! I teach an adult SS class and I am writing the study because I didn't know how to or where to find what they wanted to study. I was scared at first, but have enjoyede partnering with God to write it. It is basically a very rough draft, but I would like to edit it and polish it for possible publication. Because I have done so many of your studies it is similar in format to yours, but no one can do a study like you. It is a study about witnessing for Jesus by studying the witnessing style and claims of Jesus from the Gospel of John. I guess what I am wondering is: is your format unique to you and do you have advise?
Blessings,
Sherry
Beth~
I'm doing "Stepping Up" as well, starting the 22nd. I can't wait! I haven't done one of your studies with a group of ladies since the spring of 2006, and I am well overdue.
Thanks for the info. on Breaking Free, too. I have the book and have read it, but I now know I need to get the workbook as well. I know from experience that what you are saying here is spot on, right on the money. Thanks for the encouragement and exhortation, dear siesta!
I'm so looking forward to this upcoming study. I'll keep y'all posted on what God teaches me.
Beth,
I will be starting your "Stepping Up" Bible study next Tuesday morning. I must tell you that for the last 8 months, Bible Study is what keeps me going...our son is still battling a brain tumor-glioblastoma. He is married, has 2 children; age 11 & 8. The doctors are not very encouraging but I KNOW GOD STILL IS A HEALER...All you siestas out there "PLEASE" include Mick on your prayer list..He is 41 and in the prime of his life with SO much to live for. He worked with our company of about 600+ people--very stressful but Mick is so well liked and all the people have stepped up to the plate and helped out in his "leave". We do not intend to take this laying down...The enemy would like to take us all out but we must stand against him and let him know we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus, healed by HIS stipes and have authority over anything that comes against the WORD. PLease stand in prayer with us.
Mick dropped over dead on May 31st--went without a breath for 22 minutes--God brought him back to life--they couldn't find anything wrong so assumed it must be his heart...had a defibulator installed and then 6 weeks later he started having seizures; they then found the tumor (size of an M'M). Surgery was performed and a month later radiation started with chemo (by pill form). He finished 7 weeks of this on Oct. 9th. By the middle of Dec. he had to have another surgery (new growth, so they say). Now, they want him to have the difibulator "removed" next week so they can do an MRI and see if they can get him into Duke--supposedly the "outstanding" hospital for this type of brain tumor...His appointment for Duke is on Jan. 31st.
I NEED to know that you all are praying with my husband & I for a miracle...We have been on our knees about this and it is tearing us up, not to mention Mick, his wife-Kelly and their 2 children.
I know that God's Word says: He will not put anymore on us than we can bear and that He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us...I just need to know that there is someone else out there praying with us...I guess this is what any mother would do and somehow you just put one foot in front of the other and do what must be done each day....All the rest really isn't important in the whole scope of "things"...Love is the answer and Jesus told us to "love the Lord, thy God first and to love our neighbor as thyself".... God Bless all of you and thank you for listening to me.....God Bless you and your loved ones...give them an extra tight hug every chance you get....
Nancy
I can honestly say that I never have gotten into studying the Word as much as I do with your Bible studies...I think it is incredibly awesome that you let God use you so mightily.
I have to say, that I am also encouraged by you sharing testimony one time about a lady in your sunday school class that was disgruntled and made you the "nice" b-day tape. When I heard you tell the story, I was HORRIFIED and thought "how terrible is that!!!" AND, at the same time, God reminded me how I have been discouraged at times by others who don't think I am doing my job well...and sometimes, it is enough to make me think, "maybe I should quit and just sit at home and eat bon-bons."
However, when I think this, I remember your story...and am SO grateful that you didn't quit. And, that you didn't let the enemy have his way!!! So...I need to push on as well...and use the brain and training and experience that God blessed me with!!
Anyway, just a side note...but something random that has encouraged me.
LOVE YOU!!
Michelle
Breaking Free was the choice of mine with Believing God a close 2nd.
Praying for everyone with all the wedding plans and everything ! Thanks for sharing your mom,
Amanda and Melissa, and thanks for sharing your life with us Ms. Beth, what a blast around the throne with Jesus we'll have one day and I thank God for a slice of heavenly blessing from above as we share from day to day !

Beth,
Hi, I started Stepping Up this week also!! I saw you in Raleigh two years ago when this all came about. I am so excited to be on my face again before the Lord. So excited to start the Bible Study. Congratulations on Melissa wedding, such exciting news!
Love you,

Oh Beth - I just have to tell ya...
Breaking Free was a landmark study for our women's group. It slap wore us out! (In a good way, of course.) Those poor workbooks took a beating during the study. Some of them looked like they had absorbed about 10 gallons of tears and sweat. They probably did!
How exciting that you are updating the series! I know the refreshed material will be a blessing. Now tell the truth...are you tickled about bringing the video portion into the year 2008 with some new outfits and hair?! It has GOT to be a chore to choose outfits that will be on a TV screen for years and years to come. Maybe you can blog about that adventure!
Much love from your siesta...
Though I read this blog every single day, this is my first time to reply. I just HAVE to comment on Breaking Free. I did it many years ago with my former church. Now, I'm doing it again. Awesome, awesome, awesome! That's all I can say. It's so fresh and new and God is teaching me all over again. Yes!
I'm working on memorizing all the memory verses...
I have to make a confession, mainly to show what a sense of humor God has. Last Saturday, my Pastor "hurt" my feelings. Ever since Saturday, I've been planning to "give him a piece of my mind" after prayer meeting last night (Wednesday). Well, we got an unexpected blizzard and church was cancelled. Do you think God caused it to snow to keep me from saying something I'd regret? I don't know but that seems just like God to protect me from myself :-).
I also just got the DVD from Beth Moore pre-conference to Women of Faith last Fall. It is AWESOME. I was there in Denver at the taping. The power of God's word being taught was almost overwhelming. I've watched it three times now and cry at the end each time.
Teach on, siesta Beth! We love ya!
Charlene
Beth,
Our Bible study group just got done with Daniel (well, we'll never be done, will we!?!?!) in December and we're on to Living Beyond Yourself. Just started this week on Wed. At night I also facilitate an evening study. For almost three years I've taught straight from the Word everything that God had been pouring into me over the past few years. It's been the most wonderful time, going from week to week, utterly dependent on God to show me what He would want me to share next. I have grown so close to these women and it has been such a blast. I am 39 years old and most of the women in there are 50+ so even with the age gap, I think I might have finally earned their trust. Well, all the while during the Daniel study I would come on Wed. night and sometimes just rattle on about how phenomenal God shows HImself to be in that book. I gushed over it again and again. I felt impressed that I should suggest Daniel to them but didn't know if they would go for it. We only have 1 hr. for study in the evening. And I didn't know if the homework would scare them away...Sheepishly, I said, "Anyone want to do Daniel?" And they shot up their hands. It was a resounding YES! So even though it will take 24 weeks to get through it, they seem very anxious to dive in...
We started this week too and I have to tell you...as the first video session was ending, my heart was just racing. I was thrilled for all of us. I have been learning some mighty powerful lessons as a result of this study, but nothing more impressive than God Himself. He is magnificent in HIs power, sovereignty and oh so glorious. I can't wait for them to see Him through the eyes of Daniel.
Fun. Fun. Fun.
Love you Beth.
Elaine
Well... I guess you all have helped me decide what bible study to do next. We finished Daniel the week before Thanksgiving...whoa!! What a study!! and now I am trying to decide which one to do next. I think it will be Stepping Up. I am excited to do another study! Beth, our whole group of ladies can't thank you enough for the studies you have done for us!! They are incredible!! Thank you God, for giving Beth the gift that allows her to do these studies! linda gibbons
I love all that you offer, Beth. I so agree with all you said about God's Word, but since you were talking about books and reading...I HAD to ask you if you've ever read Francine Rivers' Redeeming Love? I can't imagine that you haven't, but just in case, you really should. It is so AMAZING...if you've read it, you're saying "Girl, you are SO right!" If not, please read it and let God bless you through it in a fresh, wonderful way! It is wonderful. The Thoene's series AD Chronicles are also so incredible. I'm guessing you might not read a lot of novels, but if you need a good read to curl up with that is not in greek...try one of these if you haven't already!
So pumped about doing Stepping Up this sememster. Praying for you always! Tanya
Beth, you are just too funny. Wearing yourself out like that. I am one of those in the Stepping Up study. I went yesterday and bought our workbooks. Then I went next door to Kinko's to change the binding. They cut off the spine and insert a coil to make it a spiral so it lies flat. They do it for $5. The gal behind the counter said - "I have done so many coil bindings for Beth Moore books". I just thought that was interesting. And that you might like to know that at Kinko's your name is a household word.
So anyway our study meets in my home. There are seven of us ranging from 29 to 57. We are all excited to begin. When I showed them the promo, they all thought it was too short! We're going to have fun in the Word.
I felt like I could hear your expression as I read your little notes in "The Wild World." Beth, you are a hoot! It tickles me (and is very special) that you just talk to us just like you would in person. Who would have ever thought that the Internet would provide such sweet fellowship and friendship? God? Yes! He knew before the foundation of the world...how can we not love Him! Tootles, Jill
Hey Beth!
I was just talking to a mom at school this afternoon about when we're going to start back up in Bible study--and--you guessed it--we're doing "Stepping Up" too.
Joanne
Dear Beth,
Wow, missing the blog for a few weeks and alot has happened!!
Thanks for the encouragement for stepping up. We are needing a another bible study as we finish up Daniel. Daniel has been so good and many sayings have been added to our family vocabulary. (My poor husband who looks at us girls with bewilderment as we see something and exclaim all together one of them!) One of my girls favorite sayings tho came from your Melissa, I think, that said "I'm dumber now!" Anyway, I'm rambling - sorry.
So a belated Congratulations to Melissa and have fun getting ready! I'll pray for your new Breaking Free taping. What a blessing that was the first time around!
love you
mk
Hey Beth, I love it when you have time just to rattle on. You are so funny.
In February we will begin new discipleship classes at my church. Two of those studies are going to be geared toward women: your study, "Living Beyond Yourself"
and "He Speaks to Me" written by Pricilla Shirer. It is going to be an exciting semester. I know God is going to bless our socks off.
You are so right, we need to be in Scripture. Thank you for making Bible study challenging and so much fun. Sometimes the homework is not easy. However, those hard places are the most beneficial. It's like eating dry cereal... it doesn't taste very good but it is nutritious.
God bless you, dear one.
Mary
My best siesta and I were talking today about ministry, (their in church, we're missionaries), growing up in church and the bondage that can sometimes produce. We both grew up in a well known denomination, went to small denominational college, etc. And it was your studies 13 years ago that jump started a spiritual journey I was destined for. Thank you. Thank you for challenging me to search scripture and face what is "religious tradition" vs. truth. We are both changed and seeking to challenge those in our path to do the same.
I started "Stepping Up" this week and I am loving it already! I am doing it with 3 of my dearest friends, one who has just recently lost her father, and another who will be leaving in May with her family to go to Ecuador for full time mission work, and all 4 of us are MOPS...so needless to say, we are all on a Pilgrimage! I am so excited to see where God takes us! Thank you for allowing God to use you Beth! And congrats to Melissa! What a gorgeous couple they are!
We'll be doing Stepping Up in Orting, WA starting Jan 21st. I'm so excited. We did Jesus One and Only last fall... I loved doing the "Christmas story" a few months before Christmas and concluding with "Easter" two weeks before Christmas.
Thank you Beth!!!!
Beth Moore, thank you.
The first time I ever did a Bible study it was A Woman's Heart and I didn't know Zephaniah from Zaccheus. Girl, you had me flipping through that Bible like crazy. . .and something profound happened; I realized I could do a Bible study (would you believe the enemy had me believing that I was such a joke as a Christian that I had no business doing a Bible study?) I did that one on my own and then got brave enough to set foot in a church I'd never been to before and do the Daniel study. I've done 2 more studies since then and I am so grateful God made it all happen. I still have so much to learn, but when I crack open my Bible and start doing homework, I can feel His pleasure.
Thank you.
Thank you for being real about your marriage.
I just started Stepping Up last night - or I should say - tried to! By the time I arrived:
The supply of books was depleted
So I was feeling defeated
And The friend I invited
With her crying son, in the hall was united
The Devil planned to defeat us, but God, I'm certain, has something wonderful in store
We are planning to be back next week for more!
holy crack a donkey (thats my saying whenI am floored)
I have been burning with a choice in my heart. Like I have said before my husband left me, well that was 3 years ago. Since then I have stood still and now I am moving on.. I am actully engaged...But I am really not sure about it. I still dont know and I still need to pray, but you said it...Single siestas can be ok single doing crazy good stuff for God. I think that way but it's hard to feel accecpted in a couples world.... But I can be ok. Man I just want some clarity and some peace...
I love ya Beth
Speaking of August - any new details? I received my wrist band thingy but I am so excited that I already have been counting down.
On another note, Breaking Free changed my life. Believing God put me on the right path to make a commitment to the Lord in study not just the manic up and downs. Thank you so much for your studies.
A friend just finished 5 months in rehab and your book (Breaking Free) and a bible were the two gifts I gave her during that difficult period.
You bless us more than you know.
Oh you just don't know how I sit here with tears pouring down my face at my lonely marriage. Married to an unbeliever is one of the worst feelings in the world. Every day I hold tight to Jesus and the fact that I am his bride--loved and wanted by him.
God bless your ministry. I don't think you can ever fathom how many women's lives you have truly touched.
Grace to you.
K.H.
Hey Beth,
I was one of those original Raleigh girls. It changed my life so much and I am delighted that you have put it into a Bible study. I am doing Stepping Up on my own and I feel like it is just what I need right now (amazing how the Word is alive and active). Press on dear friend. We love you so much. Tammy
I just wanted you to know, Miss Beth, that I am part of a group of seminary wives/students who just started the Stepping Up study tonight.
And when I came home from our intro study and hopped on line, here you are talking about it!
Thank you, God, for a little extra validation!
Yes, Beth... my "siestas" are just finishing up Paul (this is my third time...still LOVE it!) and we look forward to walking through the Psalms beginning in February. I don't post often, but I read daily because that's what pretend BFFs do, you know, keep up with each other's daily lives! Thank you and Amanda and Melissa for sharing your hearts, your prayers, your fears, your hopes, your dreams, your stumblings (you get my ramblings.) Life truly is more blessed when we have a spiritual bond that Satan can't begin to penetrate. Know this Tennessee heart transplanted to Abilene keeps you in her prayers!
Hey Beth,
Since you were on the topic of "Stepping Up," I thought I'd give you a little something else to get excited about. I too, started Stepping Up on Christmas day. I told my parents if I didn't get anything else for Christmas, I wanted the Stepping Up set - DVDs and all. I'm waiting for God to provide an opportunity for me to use it in the future to lead a group study, but I couldn't wait, so I jumped right in.
Anyway, back to my story...Yesterday, I did Day 5 of Week 2, where you remind us that "Christ will never take us into a battle we can't win." That really resonated with me. It was as though I was hearing it for the first time. And, tonight I shared that with the female inmates in the jail ministry that I'm a part of, and they ate it up!! It really spoke to them, so thank you!
I hope that adds to your Most High high!!
Love,
Missy
We haven't done Stepping Up but I will put it on my list. We just started Daniel Part 2 tonight. It is going to be INTENSE but I know I will be smarter when I'm done.
How great to know that you are doing your homework! Thanks for all you do to make us Siestas feel like your best friends!
Will be praying for you as the wedding draws near! Much to do I bet!!
Have a great weekend!
Amanda in SC
Mama B, thanks so much for remembering us single gals. I can't deny the momentary overwhelming feeling of depression that comes when some one else announces their marriage. Even as I type that, I feel horrible about it, but its true. And almost as soon as that feeling begins, its over and feelings of happiness take its place. I am soo happy that Melissa has found her Mr Darcy, her man!! I know that she has wondered for a while who he was and when he would come along. My cousin, who is my best friend, just told me on the phone tonight that the awesome guy she has been dating for 6 months just had the pow-wow with her father and recieved the go-ahead. I love her soo much and he is one of the best guys Ive ever met. He loves her and pampers and spoils her as well as push her to grow as a person. Their number one goal before they get married is to find a church home where they can grow together and plan for their family. Can I just say how much I love that?! And yet, after I got off the phone with her, I teared up for a minute. My cousin(Might as well be sister) is getting married! Before me! But Im happy! But Im sad! I know God has my man out there and knows what is the very best for me. But I know that better on somedays than others!! God has blessed me with so many Godly women who, I have no doubt, pray for me constantly. For me and my man. I thank Him constantly for them and for you all here. I can't tell you how many times I have read a post from one of the Moore ladies and, as I read through the commments, saw that someone else was having the same reaction as me. There is such a bond here. I often read the blog at work and the thoughts and comments that I read here are with me through the day. I feel like my group of girlfriends has increased immeasureably(sp?)!! I am sooo counting down to August!! I tell practically everyone that I talk to that Im going to San Antonio for a get together with my blog siestas!!
So I guess what I want to say is Thanks. Thanks to Beth, Amanda and Melissa. Thanks to all the blog sisters. Thanks for your words and prayers.
Love you. All of you!
Nikki
To the dear siesta who has had friendships gone bad - please don't give up hope. I had to wait until I was 40 years old to find my soul sister and best friend. It happened when I was sitting in her chair at her salon. She was cutting my hair and working her magic when I mentioned Beth Moore, how much I loved her studies, and how I had done Breaking Free. My now BFF began jumping up and down and hugged me. Because of that connection, it was like our hearts were instantly bonded. Inseparable since...already planning what we'll do together in heaven. Hang in there! God can do the same for you!
Miss Beth,
Did you drink a Dr. Pepper before typing or what?! That was a sugar/caffine rush blog entry if I ever read one! ;) It was almost like every comma and period was a big inhale gasping for breath before going on to the next line! :)
Single Siestas: I'll pray for you all if you pray for me -- married, mom of teens, working PT and battling busyness! There's never enough time (I know you have it too) I need to be more consistent in the daily devotions and lifting others up in prayer.
This post was with such great timing. God is good and faithful to answer our prayers. I have been facilitating your studies for several years now and someone asked me if we should do something different. What I love about your teaching is...well...exactly what you wrote in this post! You love Jesus and his Word and it just pours out of your pores!
Thanks so much for what you do! You are such a blessing to me.
Love you,
Tammy
Dear Beth- I just wanted to thank you so much for this blog. It blesses me beyond imagination. I was visiting Disneyland with my two little people and came down with a stomach virus in the hotel. It really was kind of frightening because my husband was at home several states away, and I was so dehydrated. The only thing that kept me from hitting the panic button was that surely, if I ended up in the hospital I could find a Siesta in the area to stay with my children until my husband could get there. I think my husband thought I was hallucinating when I tried to explain that I was sure I could find a Siesta. You know what though, even though it lasted a full 24 hours, I made a full recovery and we flew home, I know in my heart of hearts, one of the precious women in our group would have helped. Even though I have met very few of my Siestas, it is a special group indeed! May He Bless and Keep You! love, melissa
My dear Miss Beth,
Yes, the world of Bible study really IS wild, isn't it? Wild and wonderful, that is. Thank you for this blog. It really means a lot to me that you care enough about us "siestas" around the "net" to keep us up to date about yourself, your life, and your hometown studies.
I am working my way through "The Patriarchs" right now, and I've found out that it is not one to do without seriously "putting your thinking cap on" ... Wow, there is so much to take in, and to learn from these men, and about our God... But, I am in an area where very few ladies are interested in getting "seriously involved" into your precious "in-depth" Bible studies, so I usually end up ordering mine through Lifeway, along with the cds and the workbooks; but, you see, this way; God, you, and me get to have all of the "fun" together. Hehe.
And, yes, thank you for thinking of us single gals out here, as, yes, I do get lonely pretty often myself, too. And, although I still feel that God has called me to live with my parents in order to help them out right now, but, they also support me, as a couple of serious medical conditions have been keeping me from getting a job right now, even with assistance from some vocational rehabilitation
people; but I pray that it isn't for too much longer.
But, I know that my Provider will take care of me until I can get back to working, especially since I don't want just any job, but I want to be discerning enough to take the job that God has already prepared in advance for me to have...
And, uh, oh, you are doing the new Breaking Free homework, too??? Oh my... We had better get ready for some more serious Bible studies to develop from your doing this, ya know that, don't ya??? Take a deep breath my sweet siesta, because "Breaking Free" can't help but break you free from something. Hmm. Thought provoking stuff.
As I wrote on the original BF post on the blog, it only took 3 weeks for me to be "broken free" by God Himself. You had written something about Lazarus and putting ourselves in his shoes, and I knew that I was missing something, or should I say "Someone"??? I met the "real" loving, caring, Jesus through "Breaking Free" my dear, and I couldn't help but fall in love with Him like you do.
So, beware, and "hold onto your hat!", my precious teacher !!!
I love you so!
But, since Jesus now hangs out with me every second of every day[in my heart, that is], He makes me feel so comforted, even on my worst days; and today actually started out as "one of those days", too. So, I am hanging onto Jesus for dear life on this roller coaster ride of faith that started with my learning what your 5 statement Pledge of Faith "really" means.
And, my dear teacher, I am so grateful to you that my colleague talked me into taking your BG study online in 2002, because it REALLY helped me to get over my fears of opening up my Bible in order to start this wild and crazy adventure of faith!
And, although I now know that the Holy Spirit was really the One who "dragged me" to dare to try sitting in front of a computer screen after work to do, of all things, a real live Bible study, but, you know what? It was your excitement and your love for Jesus, Miss Beth, that caught me off guard at first; but now I can barely keep my hands off of my dear Bible; and yes, it is getting pretty dog-eared now, but I couldn't care less - I just wanna learn more and more about Him, my sweet Lord and Savior, Jesus!!!
All my love, in Christ,
Jennifer

its a blessing to climb these 15 steps with these sisters from around the country!
Thank you!!!
Beth,
I’ve read all your messages for a year now, but this is my first post to your blog. When you mentioned that it blesses you to hear from us, I couldn’t let you down, so here I am writing you back. I thought I would let you know what a huge encouragement you are to me. How strange to say- since of course we have never met. But, that is the beauty of what God has done through this blog- for you (and your daughters) have ministered to each of us personally and served as wonderful role models- just by taking the time to reveal your hearts to us.
I’m a stay at home mom, raising my two small boys, taking classes to get a Certificate in Biblical Studies (loving every minute) and wondering what God has in store for my future. Thank you for allowing me this inner glimpse into your life so that I can learn from you. I am inspired by your dedication to pursue the depth of your relationship with Christ (while leaving the breadth of your ministry to the Lord) and your obedience to God’s call. I am encouraged to press on when you share a good devotional, or your experiences in the never ending daily grind, or your perseverance in marriage (the rice pilaf story killed me) or your continued support of your daughters in their adult lives.
I love that you like the simple things: your dogs, the birds, your backyard and a good Payless shoe. Thanks Beth for all of it. My sister and I will see you in San Diego this spring! I can’t wait to get some more of your teaching in person.
"Nothing makes you feel more alone than a bad marriage. I know because I've had one. And I don't have one now."
Beth, that is an awesome testimony of God's miraculous power! He is so Good...
Beth,I just got off work and I sooo love reading your LPM Blog before I do anything else except have a cup of coffee. I did the Breaking Free Bible study and I don't really have to Break Free from anything.I just soo enjoyed listening to you and learning the Word of God more. It was awesome. I love you more than you'll ever know. Thanks for being there always. My husband is in Iraq and it helps even more now whenever I miss him soo. Love ya'll Mary Anne
Dear Beth,
I just love you and your family. I have been reading your blog for over a year now and have really felt as though this is a nice, safe place for me to be with other Christian women. I haven't posted very much, but just reading your words and the responses from the women leave me with a smile on my face and a new warmth in my heart.
My family has moved around the last couple of years because of my husband's job and it has left me feeling quite lonely as I made great friendships and then had to move on. A friend of mine and myself had facilitated a couple of your studies out of our homes before I moved. It was so special. I have such wonderful memories of that time shared with those in my last home. Now, I'm the "new girl" in town. It is a tiny community with a big faith and I've felt a nudge by God to facilitate another one of your studies out of my home (even though I've only been here two months). I've been thinking about doing your "Beloved Disciple" study, but really am uncertain which one to do. Any suggestions? I would like to ask you to pray for God's guidance and strength as I start this. I don't know that many people...I am looking to make new Christian friends and I just want someone to get excited about Jesus with me!
It amazes me how I cannot know you personally, but I feel as though I've known you forever and you are one of my closest friends. Your studies have changed my life and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for what you've done. I can only hope that God will use me in a big way as well. I wish my words painted a picture like yours do so that you would know how deep my feelings are. If I lived closer to you I'd hug your neck real tight!
Love you,
Anne in MO
Nothing more refreshing than digging in God's Word. I received the revised version of "A Woman's Heart God's Dwelling Place" for Christmas and was just thrilled! I just finished Session 2 tonight and was just amazed again at how God speaks specifically when we need Him so desperately. I have just invited a young lady to take this journey with me and I’m so excited about introducing her to in-depth bible study and to you sweet Beth.
God Bless!
Janie
Beth- There is nothing like digging deep into God's word and sharing it with others who love the Lord! We are starting Stepping Up on Feb. 7; let the countdown begin:)By the way, my husband wants me to buy him a copy of your bible study on the Psalms of Ascent. Can you believe it? I reminded him that you write studies for women and he said he didn't care. Is this a continuing trend from the Daniel study that you mentioned last year?
Thank you for sharing the word and your faithfulness in teaching it!
Diane
Beth-I know you've said you read all the posted comments but I LOVE LOVE LOVE when you specifically mention some of them.
Furthermore... I LOVE that you said, "Digging into the depths of Scripture and having your mind deliberately and consistently renewed by God is what freedom is all about." It makes me giddy.
I love the Word of God and love that it brings freedom.
Thanks for your post today Beth. It's a keeper. As are you. :0)
I just got stepping up for Christmas...but never did Breaking Free? And now I wonder if I need to Break Free before I can Step Up? SO excited for both!!! I know God is wanting something from me this year, and appreciate this blog so much as it reminds me to seek after that.

I am working through the Wising Up DVDs. I just finished watching "Wisdom for Moms." (appropriately while ironing :-)
I have been praying throughout the series that God would "give me some wisdom"...in particular that he would make me wiser in my practice as a newly graduated Nurse Practitioner (a huge responsibility!). I found out today that an especially tough decision that I made earlier in the week ended up being the right one and the one most beneficial to my patient--whew! Thank you LORD!
And thank you Beth for helping me to remember to be authentic, absolutely and utterly.
Love,
Allyson
We are "wising Up" and then "stepping up!" We love ya Ms. Beth! Always in our prayers.
Always!
Be blessed and continue to seek Him with all you got!!
Hugs~
Fran
Hooray for "Stepping Up"! I cannot wait to do it! I was one of the Raleigh girls back in 2005 so this study will be close to my heart. I was pregnant with my son at that conference and boy did my ankles swell up like balloons on the 7 hour car ride each way. But it was well worth it!! I know the study will be wonderful.
Thanks Miss Beth!
love

Hi--I'm a first time poster but long-time reader. Thank you for remembering those of us who are single. I'm trying to focus on serving God, but there are still days when someone praying up a husband might be nice! It's a blessing to be thought of/prayed for, and a blessing to be a part of this crazy cyber community!
I agree that God's Word is what I need all the time and in all situations.
I recently had a disturbing conversation with someone I care about (who is in ministry!) who tried to convince me that looking to God's word and the Holy Spirit is not enough. This person believes I should consult people and circumstances equally with God's Word and the Holy Spirit. I literally felt sick to my stomach after the conversation! People give bad advice all the time. I know I do. But the Holy Spirit NEVER steers me wrong!!
The more I'm in the Word the more I want to be in the Word. Course with 3 young'uns (4.5 years, 3 years, 16 months) I don't have as much time to spend in It as I'd like. I just remind myself this is a Season of life and He knows I'm in it. After all, He gave me these babies. = )
Dear Beth, thank you for thinking about us single women (who pray we werent' single) and are now getting gray hair. It's a tough world out there for us, especially in the secular world. People often wonder what is "wrong" with us, and they want to set up us with whoever they think it would be good for us. But I keep saying, that God has given me everything I need, not necessarily what I want, cause I need to keep focused on HIM. Loved your Breaking Free, I did the study about three years ago and it still has an impact on me.
Sure wish you were in Edmond, Oklahoma right now. Would love to buy you a coffee at Starbucks and pick your cute high-lighted brain to pieces over God's Word.
Have a great night, sweet Beth. Oh, and I pay to be blonde, too. Isn't that the only way?
Dearest Beth ~ Thank you so much for your personal responses to this blog! How fun for all of us to hear from you, in response to our entries! My study group just started "Stepping Up" yesterday, so today was the first day to begin (a bit awkwardly and unsure what to expect) on my face before the Lord. Knowing Him for all these years and here I am, learning all over again. It is amazing how much deeper He longs to take us. Thank you, Beth, for your wonderful insights and teaching! God has completely changed my life through your studies - and it just keeps getting better and better!
And belated congratulations to Colin and Melissa! What a blessing for all of you!! May the Lord bless these coming days of planning and preparation. You are so, so dearly loved, siesta!!!
I put the recap on my blog about our first night of stepping up. I did the workbook as soon as I could get my hands on it but I had not seen the dvds. I prayed during the day that the Lord would put something on my heart to talk about as we opened and He put Hebrews 11 on my heart about the people in the hall of faith not receiving what was yet promised. They died by faith. They realized that they were looking forward to a better country and that this was not their home. Anyway, I was making the point that if we focus on our circumstances without focusing on the person and presence of Jesus that we will have an opportunity to return to our own personal land of slavery that God delivered us from. Anyway, we about died because I popped in the dvd and you spoke on the exact same verses. I love how active the Holy Spirit is and how He met with us. I am so excited!! I am expecting big things from the Lord with this study!!
Beth,
Coming from a single again gal, you are so right, you can cover up the gray hairs and I do every six weeks. Yes, I have been lonely at times but ever since you shared with us about having "dates" with Jesus, it changed my life. I include Him in every detail of everyday life and it does help. I just picture Him with me at the store, church etc.. and it takes away the loneliness. I have been married and felt alone in that marriage. I know about it on both levels.
My family and I are still looking for a new home church since we moved and there are two area churches offering Stepping Up and I am so excited. I facilitated your studies at my former church. I will miss that but I am excited about the new ministry God is calling me to. So, if you think of it, please pray for me and my family as we search for a new church!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Much Love,
Patty
ps it is funny what you said about forgiveness because I just went and got my "Praying Gods Word" book and was going to head on over to the forgiveness section and insert the persons name that I am struggling to forgive. I sensed the Lord nudging me to go ahead and do it by faith even though I dont want to forgive and I feel entitled to hold on to my unforgiveness...the Lord reminded me in my Spirit of how many times I have prayed prayers to forgive by faith until He changed my heart and I was able to forgive. Sometimes forgiveness is a process and takes some time and hard work as we all know.
Love that so many of us are working our way through a great study right now....we start Stepping Up tomorrow morning...can't wait. Daniel last fall was amazing....love how deep it was!! Has anybody done a "Read through the Bible in 90 days " study and which one would you recommend? Love loving the word with all of you....
To the siesta who asked for prayers for those of us who are single, I understand how you feel and I'm praying for you. Also for those who may just plain feel alone.
Another form of lonliness can be when we've healed or are in the prcess of healing, from hurts and strongholds when those closest to us haven't. It can be lonely because they don't understand. I'm praying and asking for pray for that lonliness.
One last thing... Beth you've become even more "real" to me just knowing you actually do the homework from your own study. I really can't wait to do this again to see if God's got more insight for me. God Bless.
Hi Beth,
I'm trying to get the courage up to do 'Breaking Free'; I tried a couple years ago, but it was just too painful to try dealing with obstacles and walls I had built up.
I just couldn't slug my way through all that debris to be able to break free, or so I 'felt' at the time.
I'm going to go through the series this time with a very small group (5) of close Godly sisters I have come to trust. I can't wait to be Free.
Deb
Beth, our group is just starting the Stepping Up study. Like most everyone else, I love the Psalms and am really looking forward to this study. I think the "Read it, Work it, Pray it" method is such a great approach. Thanks for leading us to do a "new thing"!
you are too funny ms beth- I just figured out you have this blog. It's super cool- We've been doing your studies for 4 yrs now and I gladly agree that throughout the yrs, books/church/missions/etc shape our growth but it's the in depth studies that truly have changed my heart and closeness to Jesus. Thank you for making them so muh fun ;)
ms gris from san diego~
Hey sweetie,
I just wanted to share how my first night of "Living Beyond Yourself" went off Tuesday. Well let me just say that I have several "frozen chosen" in my class that have never seen/maybe even heard of you. When you started in about the Kenya trip, with the water heater and telling Keith that you were OUTSIDE... they actually laughed out loud!!! I can't wait to see how the Spirit will manifest His fruit in them. I didn't have any shimmering suits but I did see lots of lipstick! :) They all make fun of my Hebrew and Greek Bible and my huge Strong's concords...so I wonder what they will be like when I turn into a cheerleader??? That's what I am praying for.
Thanks again for your love of Jesus and God's word. I praise Him that He lets it cut into my marrow through your studies.
I'll be "Stepping Up" with you this summer but it will be in Rainbows instead of Prayless heels.
Look.........I wrote PRAYless- how appropriate!!! Love you, siesta Beth
Beth,
I wanted to tell you that I love your enthusiasm and connection with your audience. Thank you also for the study you did in Daniel. I wanted to share with you that a friend of mine and I wanted to do the full study ourselves so bad, that we both bought the set ourselves - you know, that whopping close to $3-400.00 set!
So we got our pennies together, and bought the books for us and another woman (who never used it) and we got together faithfully and did the study. And I can tell you that I learned so much and was so overflowing with blessings from God...
But here's the other thing....since it was just me and my friend, we contacted Lifeway and asked if we could duplicate the DVD's so we could each have a set. That way when we weren't together, we both had a set to view. Thankfully, Lifeway gave us permission and we were so thankful.
So thanks! :)
Now the question is, how do we influence our women's leadership and get them to buy your studies :)
We did share how great Daniel was...but so far, nothing has happened.
:)
I love your heart! My little ones have been sick, so I missed the post about "the goods" until now. What fun! I'll happily hear all the details of life with adult daughters from you and stay right here in cartoon land with mine. :) I am just about to begin the new Psalms study and can't wait. It sounds like Breaking Free is the next journey I need to take. Grief is some weighty stuff, did you know? I was actually emailing a sweet friend in TX tonight about trying to get several moms who have lost little ones together at the Deeper Still Event in Atlanta on the first anniversary of the day we lost our Miller Grace this coming summer, because of the healing that came in the early days of my grief from the Event in Nashville. My is carrying a precious baby boy with Trisomy-18 (you can catch a glimpse of his family over at thestanfieldjourney.blogspot.com) and is due in a few weeks. We have no idea why the Lord has us here, but He does and apparently, He's using something as crazy as our blogs about our sweet heavenly babies to draw us together. We praise Him for continuing to use His people to show us His love, to use His Word to speak to our hearts, and servants like you to draw us back to His feet. Which, as we all know, is the only place we'll find healing. Thank you for being real and thank you for being so faithful to the call. He is alive and well in you.
Congratulation on the marriage ( my anniversary is feb. 15th :)- how beautiful are those grandchildren gonna be? They look like a perfect match...shannon
Dear Beth,
You are so funny! I totally agree, it is the one-on-One with God in study that really speaks to you. :) I have to tell you, I had just found the book by Eugene Peterson, "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction," at the library and liked the name but did not know it was about the Psalms of Ascent. It is excellent. Well, THEN I found that you were beginning to write a study on the same subject!! I immediately said "THANKS GOD!!" We are doing "Living Beyond Yourself" right now and I hope to do Stepping Up next. I cannot wait!!
Love you, karen :) :)
Hi Beth,
We just started "Stepping Up" at our church this week. We are doing a Monday night and a Wednesday morning class. I help facilitate the Wednesday morning class. We had 67 women! We are so excited. This is my 6th Beth Moore bible study that I have facilitated.
Your coming up our way (to the Pacific Northwest) next month and we have a group from our church coming to see you. We can't wait!
Kathy
Hey Beth, Well, you must have radar on me here in Newark, Ohio. Just before I read your blog, tears were falling from my eyes because of deep grief over missing my mom. ( dead 28 years) I am just now missing cause the Lord has released all unforgiveness and now I see I need her in my life. I am single, lonely , but fervently serving the Lord. And get this i am launching the Breaking free study in my church starting Feb 5, 2008. Please pray for me and all who attend. So, any whoo, I am just going through a hard patch of intense pain and grief. Basic needs, I think don't ever go a way and when there is a history of neglect then shame for feeling the need for attention, love, validation, food, drink, hugs, security well...you have a mess named me. Praise the Lord He is faithfully healing and wooing me into His secret place constantly.Beth, He uses you, this blog and the Bible Studies to keep my heart encouraged. Just for the record, I need you sistas! you can email me if you wish. thanks. tee
Ms. Beth,
You make me smile too. I can be having the most horrible day (getting ready to jump back into the pit, hang up my pictures back up, and everything), and then I go to your website and listen to one of your teachings, or come over here and read y'all's blogs, and then I feel so encouraged.
I love your Bible studies. They are so amazing and wonderful and absolutely liberating.
I just started the Breaking Free study last night. I am beyond excited about getting to do it.
Just wanted to say that you do not know how much this blog helps me through the day...so many times, when i am near the breaking point, and i sign on to the site, i am either laughing or crying before i get through the entries that are posted..thank you for your wonderful work and your honesty about things going on in your lives...it seems that we are all very close friends..and that is really a neat feeling for me, it seems that i don't feel as overwhelmed and alone, when i visit the Siesta site! I have hoped that we would do the Breaking Free study again, since i didn't get to do it the first time, but i am thinking that i will just have to do it on my own...once again thank you.
Delilah
Dearest Beth. This posting is so rich--from your personal messages to our Siestas, to your beautiful advice. In essence, you are protecting us, so we don't miss a precious moment of our deliverance and promise. I can't even take it all in. Which means I have a darn good excuse to get right back on the blog and read it all over again tomorrow.
One line jumped right out at me: "When it comes to...freedom from bondage, and equipping for anointed ministry..." This is so alive and fresh for me! I truly feel I am being called to let go of something holding me back, and step up to something else, to glorify Him and live in victory. It's so exciting! Does anybody else feel the same way?
I love you too, Beth, and love my dear Siestas.
xo

Beth,
We just moved from Ohio to Hawaii, and one of the things I miss most is my adorable group of Bible Study ladies. Sometimes change and me aren't the best of friends!:) We usually did one of your studies. Well, I just last week heard about a church here that is doing "Jesus, the One and Only", and I was tickled pink to attend. I did yesterday and it was great. The ladies were great! Different faces around me, but your familiar face on the screen and Jesus' presence in the room!
Thanks for being just like a familiar girlfriend to me and for all your service that has truly helped deepen my relationship with Jesus!
Love you,
Kristen
I am in my 4th week of "Stepping Up", what a great study. The face down praying, saying it, working it and praying it....WOW!! We are having so much fun with this study. I totally love how you added the worship, just beautiful. This study has helped me so much. I always see people writing in their bibles and underlining verses. I didn't mind underlining, but I wasn't really sure how to write "simple" notes without scribbling all over my bible. Well I finally got it through this study. I have learned so much, and I am not even finished yet. I recommend this study to everyone. You will have an absolute blast with God and His Word.
Thank you sweet Beth, I love you sister :)
I can't wait until you, Kay & Priscilla come out here to Vegas in September :)
We started Stepping Up on Wednesday evening. Due to an extracted wisdom tooth I haven't started the homework, but that's my plan tonight. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I can't wait to get out my highlighters and my colored pens and let God work His wonders on me. Thanks so much for this bible study.

It is my personal goal to do every Beth Moore Bible Study that there is out there. Breaking Free is the one that I want to do so bad. I haven't found a church around me thats doing it yet but I won't give up. I've done Believing God, Daniel and The Patriarch's. I could use a pray to find Breaking Free in this area (High Point, NC) Love and God Bless, CINDY
Hi Beth and team,
Finally (thank you Lord!) got to grips with this blogg thing.I'm Still blogging from Belfast. When you mention those words 'breaking free' - man my hair just stands on edge (actually I know no picture is posted of me on this thing - but trust me I actually have a sticky out hairstyle - I'm addicted to funky hairstyles - keeps the folks amused in my church!! and yes I've had all the 'did you come on a motorbike jokes!!!) Anyway, the breaking free conference you held in Belfast a number of years ago - was a breaking point for me. I prayed (in a toilet cubicle) that I would fall in love with Jesus - he heard this Irish girl's prayer and blew me off my feet - and my hair!!!) You mentioned 'stepping up' - unfortunately belfast is a tad further away from the rest of your siestas and so we don't have that here or your journals - can I order them from you guys? Do you post stuff to Belfast? Anyway hope I can join your siestas. Much Blessings Your Belfast Blogger
I am so glad you finally mentioned, " Stepping Up"-:)
I know me and Jenny Hope were siked since the first week it came out, and probably were close to the first ones to buy it:)
My momma bought it for me for my bday, and I bought it for my Pastor's wife and dear mentor for Christmas:)
Anyone who wants to really see what it is to worship, anyone who wants to know what to do when you are down and out and dont feel like reading a whole verse of scripture...you will love this study!!!!
There is a surprise addition in it too...but my lips our sealed:)
OMgoodness, I could be the promotional chick for this lol...
Anyway, great study, go get it:)
BTW- My Accountability Partner and I want to do, " When Godly people do ungodly things." so we are starting with the book, but if there are any siestas that have it chilling on a shelf in their home and our looking to pass it on...please contact me, for we our poor college students:)
Alright ladies, have a great TGIF!!!
Beth-I can't spend enough time in Bible study and I too like the workbook formats the best. Taken from 'Praying God's Word Day by Day' (which I have used daily with my Bible studies since its creation-did I say thank you?),for this morning one of the scripture you picked for today is from Jer. 15:16 "When your words come to me, help me eat them. Make them my joy and my hearts delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty, Increase my appetite for your Word, my Sufficiency!"-this could not say it better! No matter what is going on around me, I experience this incredible peace and joy when I am quitely spending time in His word or in prayer. It is my fuel, my breath of life, for my day. You are a blessing!
In His Graces~Pamela
I love the fact that you want to pop in here and encourage us. And I appreciate your words about the workbook vs. the "book" book. I think it's easier for me to hide behind the regular book and keep my stuff to myself. Which doesn't always provide the results that God would have me have. I am looking forward to doing the updated version. (I guess it must be time to deal with some of this baggage. I feel it more every day.)
Dear Beth,
I teach a Moms Bible study in Memphis and I know you have prayed for one of my sweet moms who was diaganosed with Stage 4 cancer at age 28 last April 2007. Her name is Stephanie Vasofsky. Her husband is Randy and her little 2 year old is Zoe. Our sweet little friend went home to be with the Lord this morning. She ran well and finished strong. She was at home surrounded by her husband and mom when she quietly stepped into the presence of the Lord. Absent from the body and present with the Lord. I knew you would want to know. You can read her site at www.caringbridge.org/visit/stephanievasofsky. Blessings. Jean Stockdale
Dear Beth, Thank you so much for sharing with us all. I have done the Breaking Free study and am planning on going through it again.
We are going to our son's wedding today (Friday the 11th). I am excited about Melissa's upcoming wedding too. So exciting!
Looking forward to you coming to Vermont and New Hampshire in October.
Love you Beth,
Lyn
Thanks for the encouragement..I've been away from here for a couple of days and man did I miss some good stuff :) I love Melissa's private side...that will be my Catherine someday. I just ordered your 90 day journals, both of them and I can't wait until they arrive. I loved your "Whispers of Hope" journal. It really changed my life with Jesus and taught me how to sit still with Him. Precious precious times. I recently finished Daniel...now that one stretched my brain to the max...I've moved on to Ezra and Nehemiah on my own and LOVE God's heart for repentance, reconciliation and restoration! Said a prayer for Breaking Free group about the weeding out process. Thank you so much, Beth, for inspiring me to love Jesus more and to look for Him everywhere. Really, I just love you!
Beth,
I am currently finishing up "A Woman's Heart" the updated version. This has been the most profound study for me. I think a study of the Tabernacle should be a required course for adult Christians. It is so rich and deep. God has used it so profoundly in my life and I've learned so much about Him and His Word.
The session you did on Zechariah and Elizabeth had me blown away. I could so relate to Elizabeth. It was so comforting to hear Gabriel say, "Your prayers have been heard". I was so moved by it, that I shared it with my adult Sunday School class, and I could barely contain myself.
Thank you for allowing God to use to communicate so effectively His Word. I have been blessed.
Blessings
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I read this religiously every day but rarely (if ever) post. But I just wanted you to know how much that I love and appreciate you. You are such a wonderful, real person to us and for that we love you all the more. I was telling my husband the other day how much he should appreciate that I have such a wonderful mentor in my life as a woman. You have given me such a love for the Word. However, I have been going through a season of "uneasiness" as to what to do. You know the restlessness you sometimes get as people with your church, friends, etc. Then I read a devotion the other day that was called "A dead heart" from Proverbs 31 ministries and I really believe I am the walking dead, trying to fill my heart with everything but Christ. This season in my life is especially hard with 2 little ones (21 months and 7 years). Mind you I am the person everyone is looking to to get the "Beth Moore" study going at church, etc., but I just feel like the walking dead. Sometimes you get the feeling that he just wants to work on you and you alone. I need that. I have been a Christian practically my whole life (since 5) and at times that is what I think is most my problem. When did I start believing what I know because it is what I believe in my heart or how do you separate it from what you have always known? Does anyone dig what I am saying here? I guess I am just wondering if anyone has been here before. I know you have. I would just love to have your prayers. I want the joy again, the "realness" of being in his word and alive in serving my other siestas with bible study, etc. I guess what I am trying to say is I am tired of the "wrong" things and I want the "real" thing but don't know how to start the journey to get it other than falling on my knees, which I guess is a good place to start.
And by the way Beth, my husband and I of 14 years have been married to at least 14 different people and yes, they all look strangely suspicious. How blessed and thankful I am that he would choose to stick it out with me. I love him so much. He is a keeper!!!
I love you-
Amy
Dearest Beth,
I am in the 6th week of a Woman's Heart and will finish up hopefulling in less than four so I can start Stepping Up right away. We recently changed churches, so landing in a group Bible study has not worked out for me yet... but I have not given up! I just stay with a study and I buy the audio cds so I can get the full teaching, and not just the homework - though the homework is my favorite part.
I read Isaiah 58 last night for the first time and got such great insights. Sometime this weekend I am going to sit down with my Word Study Bibles and my commentaries and tear it apart. That, my friend, is my favorite way to really get into God's Word. I love to dig and then I spend a week telling everyone I know about what I learned. I actually stopped, picked up my husband's reading Bible and read the whole passage to him last night because I was so in awe of what God said. Pray for my husband... he struggles so to hear God's voice. But I have learned that is between him and God, my role is to watch and pray and be so excited about the Word that he catches my enthusiasm.
Anyway... It blesses my heart to know you are doing your own homework. I love to go find something I worked through and rediscover something that spoke to me so profoundly. I marvel at the way God is good.
The "goods" on Melissa and Colin blesses my heart. My daughter, oldest at 18, is in her first serious relationship. Her beau is 19 and the godliest young man I have seen in a while. They are wild about one another, though my daughter had reservations because this boy has a life plan and marrying her is on it in the next 3 or 4 years. They have been inseparable over the Christmas break while he is home from college. He left yesterday to go back. This means it will be a good three or four weeks before they see one another again. My daughter said goodbye on Monday night and came in and bawled her eyes out. I didn't realize he had left because he thought I wanted her to come in and he to leave... It was midnight after all. So, she called him and said that I was up and it would be all right for him to come back if he wanted - he did. He told her that night that if it were not a foolish decision he would take her and marry her right away so they never have to spend another minute apart. My daughter who has said over and over marriage is a distant future prospect for her was sobbing as she recounted his words. She smiled with a glow that only blessed tears can bring and I said, "And you would marry him, too, wouldn't you?"
She said, "Yes... I would."
I asked her if this meant she had decided she was supposed to marry him and she said, "Well, I don't know for sure, but... I'm guessing so." I told them both before Christmas when we had our intentions and expectations conversation that we had at least 8 years before all our kiddoes would be out of college and only then could we think about a wedding. Unless they decide and pay for one themselves... which is not what I would like to see happen. So... there it is, pray for us -we have a son and Three Girls... Oy!
It is so fresh to see young love in bloom in a godly light. They went to a homeless church and my girl was so excited she almost leapt. Anyway... I guess I am rambling, but what else do you do at 7:00 AM when you have been up for 2 1/2 hours.
Seriously though, would all the siestas please pray for a young family at my church. We learned the night before last that their 23 month old daughter drowned in the family pool. I posted more about it on my blog. The funeral is tomorrow, my heart is broken because I know the pain of surrendering your child to the Lord. Their faith is strong and their story of surrender is so beautiful, but I know it is tragic, senseless and it is faith shaking at the same time. Please remember them often their last name is Barnard.
Blessings,
Michelle
Dear Beth,
I have been wanting to do the Stepping Up study, but since I don't know of a group here that is doing it, I may just have to do it by myself. Wasn't there something Amanda posted on the blog some time ago - a link where we could look for studies in our area? Could that info be re-posted???
I did the Daniel study by myself last year, and then I sent my audio CD's to my mom, who did the study on her own. She is 74 years old, and Daniel was her very first Beth Moore Bible study, and she loved it! She told me you are a wonderful teacher, and so funny too! I am so happy that she and I can do Bible studies together, even though she lives clear across the country.
I pray heaps of blessings for you!
Hugs,
Adrienne
Beth and Siesta's:
What a delight for 2008 to see each one of us loving Him more! Our group is getting ready to start "Stepping Up" on Thursday evening. In December we finished Jesus The One and Only.
Can you tell me how to get on the Deeper Still-the blog? Also, there will be a large # of us going to Colorado Springs in May. Will there be anything there for the Siesta's? We are in SW Kansas.
Thanks and God's richest blessings and thanks to each one of you, YES, especially the Moore Siesta's, for keeping this so REAL! And current.
Lovingly,
Yolanda xrogersh@pld.com
Beth, I'm new to this blogsite, but have my own blog on xanga so I was interested in reading yours. . .love it. You are so real, funny and authentic, just like you appear to be. I am a "new associate pastor's wife" and am just getting my feet wet in ministry alongside my husband (although we were foreign missionaries for awhile, being on a church staff is completely different). Anyway, we are getting ready to read through Get Out of That Pit with a group of women in our fledgling women's ministry. I'm reading it now and weeping almost everytime. I've done Breaking Free and Believing God at my former church and loved them even though they were hard and painful. Please pray for us as we begin this journey with these dear women. I'm going to bookmark your website and visit often. Thanks for sharing so freely of yourself.
Your "Siesta" in Christ---Lelia
I am a newby around the LPM blog, and I'm so excited about it. Thank you so much for sharing your heart with me from this forum. I was one of the Raleigh girls to whom you first taked about the Psalms of Ascent and I look forward to going through the Bible Study. THANK YOU for all you do for the kingdom!
Ok! I am so convinced now! Sometimes, it literally takes the Lord coming out of Heaven and screaming the answer at me. Your post did just that. I've been agonizing over what study to do with the women in our church. My husband bought me the book (not the workbook)Breaking Free and I literally can't lie down to read it. I have to sit straight up...sometimes stand up because I get so excited over what I'm reading. I felt like this study would be perfect for our women. So many of them are held captive by their "issues"...I know now that this is the perfect starting point for them AND me. I can't wait to see what God is going to do. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your ministry and your encouraging messages.
Love,
Lindsey in Louisiana
Beth: Good Morning to you from middle Georgia, you precious woman!
STEPPING UP is growing exponentially at my church. I've had to STEP BACK to Lifeway 2 more times to get more "Stepping Up" books because so many women have signed up. (Of course, after showing the promo DVD Sunday in "big church," I should have just known that would occur! Your invite to come hungry to this Bible study just got all my girls revved up!) We should have around 75 women present for class, and I'm so glad!!!
Studying these Psalms will be wonderful. I have my paternal grandmother's Bible and I love to go through and read the notes and things she has written in the margins and on little snippets of paper and envelopes or whatever she could find. The Psalms are so marked up - they were her favorite too.
I love that you're doing your own homework - that is precious. You really are one of us siesta girls and that confirms your transparency once again.
Thank you, sweet Beth for encouraging us to stay in the Word and do Bible study and reminding us that that is where life-long healing and power comes from.
Thank you for stepping out so that we could step up to step over and break free!
You're something else!
Love, Jan
Your Georgia Siesta
I am going through a little withdrawal right now, as I just started a Bible study that is not by Ms. Beth! It's one by Mary Kassian called "Conversation Peace." Have any siestas done this one? After only a day of homework, God is already working on me! So it's looking like I'll have some awesome material to get me through 'til April when we finally do Stepping Up.
Blessings to all,
Kelli in Ohio
Mornin Beth, Thank you for encouraging us to study the Word. I think I have decided to do you study on Jesus the One and Only. Starting next week at our church. Also I have done alo of Precept Bible studies with Kay arthur. This is really where it all started for me in studying the Bible a few years ago. If any of you siestas like her studies I have been watching her go through the book of Matthew on the internet on preceptsforlife.org. I watch the video that she does on tv. She is actually teaching from the land of Israel which makes it so much more interesting. So just some info for the siestas out there that maybe haven't studied her Bible studies. Our church is so great because we have 2 of your studies, Beth, going in January, and 2 precept Bible stuies going also. It is wonderful. Have a blessed day Beth, and siestas. Kelly from Michigan
Now you know I'm never one to turn down a poundcake.
Maybe you can bring it when you come in August? :-)
Thank you for being so real, Beth, and sharing where you are in your life. After doing the Paul study years ago, I hurt so deeply for you with the personal situation you shared. Isn't it amazing how God can connect our hearts as women over things? I'm leading an early 20s single mom in A Heart Like His, and God is doing such a great work in both of us! You have blessed so many by being loyal to your calling.
I need to be in SCRIPTURE, I need to be in SCRIPTURE, I need to be in SCRIPTURE...if I say it enough will I DO IT like I should? Why is it hard to be faithful in that area? I love God so much and not a minute of my day goes by that I'm not consumed with Him but the busyness of life and three little ones becomes my excuse to not be in the Word like I should. I hate that! My sweet little 6 year old who is but an average reader and couldn't actually sit down and "read" the bible for his life actually falls asleep everynight with his flashlight open to his bible. But I go in spells, I will be faithful for a while and man do I love His Word when I'm in it but then it falls by the wayside. Thank goodness He doesn't treat me that way!
P.S. Amanda, where in the world are you? We've barely heard from you in a while and I miss you...and Jackson. Need some updating on what's going on in Dallas!
Lisa
I'm hoping to do the Stepping Up study with a copule girlfriends over the summer during our "down time." We're doing Chip Ingram this time around as we just finished up Daniel in the fall. I am so looking forward to growing more....it never seems to be enough!!!!! God Bless!
I appreciate your comments to the single women out here. I'm one of them. I'm 40 years old and always thought I'd be married with 6 children. It can be very, very lonely. I'm very active in my church and love serving my Lord, but I still long so much for a husband. Sometimes I feel like us singles get forgotten about. Thanks for rembering.
I purchased "Stepping Up" back in November and am the facilitator, so of course I had to take a look at the lessons ahead of time. :)
I can't wait for our group to start these lessons. We begin Mon. Feb. 4. I'm putting the announcement in our church bulletin this Sun. Please join me in praying for those who are supposed to attend. We have the sweetest group of ladies each time and are so blessed. I love that Travis sings in each one too. That's a great addition.
I will be praying for Tulip in Idaho and for their tiny church to be able to do the studies. I have a cousin in Kentucky and her husband pastors a small church there. Our ladies group has shared some of the studies with them and took up a collection for them to be able to purchase the workbooks. We were blessed to be able to do that.
God bless you Beth and all of my siestas. Have a great weekend!
Love,
Valerie
Love! Love! Love digging into God's precious word with you all...my love for His intimate words to His children has grown tremendously since I started studying under Beth's teaching years ago. His word is alive and active and sharper than a two-edged sword...I need a fresh word all the time, and that's not how I used to be. Thank you for being used by God to change my heart (replacing my heart of stone with a heart of flesh).
On a totally silly note, my friend sent this link to a funny, goofy song about girls with big Bibles...webmaster, feel free to delete this part of my comment if it's not appropriate. I never want to offend..I watched the video and thought it was cute, inoffensive and funny, but maybe my perspective isn't as sensitive as it should be...check it out, please, before posting...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTYr3JuueF4
I started "Stepping Up" this week also! And I have been face down ever since! I am so excited to do this study with the women from our church and I have invited a friend who I think really needs to go on a journey with Jesus.
By the way, back to those beautiful girls of yours, if you ever are ready to tackle a study for mom's growing up Godly women I would take that one and gobble it up! I have three young girls and I'm just praying that I don't completely mess them up, I think it's going to be hard because I'm pretty messed up myself, and my darn self keeps getting in the way! I would love to know your and Keith's secrets to raising Godly women, because you (and I know God) from what I can tell have done a wonderful job!
Congratulations on the upcoming wedding!!
And pray for those of us now in our 30's convinced God has forgotten about us! :)
Jera
Miss Beth,
I'm not sure if anyone has told you recently how *funny* you are. Girlfriend, you make me *laugh*! I was just rewatching/listening to the Who can you trust? series from life today. I needed to hear it again, and I heard it with fresh ears and learned some things I had not learned the first time through. And when you were talking about what if the worst happened and Keith *did* leave you for a 25 year old, and you said, "I'd have a fit. I'd tear off both her arms at the neck..." and then went on of course to say that your God would take care of you. But I have to say, I laughed so hard, and I was at work here, I caused a scene and people came to check on me. Thankfully I work in a wonderful Christian environment where people know I listen to you regularly while working, so they just chalked it up to another "beth moment".
On that topic, I feel as though I need to confess/apologize to you, because I will often have the video going on one screen while I work on my other screen, and of course i have to pause you when the phone rings or when someone comes to talk. Don't I always manage to pause you so that you are making the most goofy, silly face?! You'll have your mouth open, one eye squinting and your finger pointing or something. Haha.. but then I just get tickled and know with your sense of humor I wish you could be here to giggle with me.
Thanks for being a part of my journey with Jesus. Thanks for loving Him and encouraging us to do so. Blessings upon this new study and in truth of course you can be challenged from your own study because it's not about you, it's about His Word, which *Always* challenges us afresh. Love you, siesta!
Oh, and I have to agree with Miss Janet about J. Vernon McGee! Thru the Bible! He's another one that is so sharp and insightful but will crack you UP! Thru the bible is available on Oneplace.com, as is Miss Beth's program, so check it out siestas!
Good Morning Siestas, This is my first time to comment but I have been looking at the blog for a long time now sharing with my secretarys whats going on at LPM I just wanted to say I love this site, when I get to work its the first thing I open to see if Beth, Amanda or Mellisa have posted, isn't it amazing I feel so in touch with everyone I thought I would let you meet me and my staff. I'm going to have one of the girls help me get a blog but for now I will use my email Thanks everyone for your comments it seems if I have a bad day I can just open up the computer and take a look at everyone accross the country and their comments on things and it just makes that day so much better you are all so precious my little Siestas and you brighten my day more times than you could know. Bless you all, Much Love, Angel
Beth,
I love the idea of you working in your own workbook. I have done Breaking Free... and as a victim of childhood abuse, it led me from playing in sludge to working toward His victories. He is the great counselor and you have allowed Him to do a great work through you and because of that a lot of women have been freed.
Thanks a lot
Love,

Thanks for the post about Melissa's upcoming wedding. As a recent bride, I wanted to share something that I did during a wedding tea party for some of the women that have forever changed my life. The bridal tea took place a couple of hours before the wedding and included about 10 or so of my closest family, friends and mentors.
I read the scripture from Titus 2 about the older women teaching the younger women and went around the room and spoke a blessing over each specific person and how they had changed my life. Two of them were leaders of bible studies that I have been part of.
Of all of the events that happened that day, I will always treasure that time together with them.
I can't take any credit for the idea, because it was God moving me to do that and also Amanda deserves some credit too, because she reminded me, in an earlier post, about that passage in scripure. It was perfect. Isn't God good?
Thanks Amanda and if you ever want to talk about some of the joys/challenges of being a pastor's wife, please feel free. My new husband is so in love with Jesus that he is in seminary to be a pastor. And He's a really fine preacher! ;)
Sorry for the long post.
Beth,
I am almost finished with week 2 of Stepping Up and I LOVE it! But then, I love them all! I got started at our church 6 years ago with Breaking Free and now I help facilitate. I absolutely HAVE to be in one at all times. It is such a crucial part of my day that I cannot function without being in a Bible study (most often one of yours but occasionally I do others as well)! And I thank you for getting me started! God has blessed you with an incredible gift and I Praise Him for you, and I thank you for being obedient to His calling on your life!
Thank you so much for sharing with us here. I just love this blog, and after 6 years of doing your studies constantly, I feel like we're best friends!
Blessings!

Beth, our group began "Stepping Up" yesterday morning. Thank you for the powerful intro. When you said, "is anyone just down?", I felt God's tender touch. I had an silent chuckle when you explained your proposal...with your exercise/aerobics background, I was afraid you were going to ask us to literally Step Up daily! =)
Dear Beth, I just had to let you know about our first night of "Stepping Up". It was fantastic. We have a night group of 23 working women who are so excited to be studying the Word and learning so much. Out of this group there are 2 who are new to bible study so I am just so excited that they are coming and enjoying it! We always pray for you and thank our Lord for you writing these studies for us. It seems every one we do just get better and better. THANK YOU for listening to His calling. This blog has been encouraging to so many of us women, we feel like friends and family to each other and you and your daughters. Thank you for being so real to us. I am looking forward to San Antonio in August to meet in person so many that I read about their lives and thoughts.
Hey Beth! I am so with you when you say In-depth Bible study is a life long study! I have been facilitating or going to them for about 23 years (every since my first born was 2yrs.!) I have heard so many, many times from ladies in my study, after they have done the first study, that their eyes were so opened! They had no idea. Their comment was "I thought church was all their was!" They had no idea the treasures they would uncover in undepth Bible study. You are then forever hooked, addicted to the Word. I am forever grateful. I have to tell you one more thing! When our group took Daniel last August, my dear friend was convicted to start watching her diet (you know the rich foods!) She has currently lost over 100 pounds and her total motivation was Daniel. Her testimony is awesome. They are featuring her in our local paper this week! I am so excited I could just pop at what God has done!!!!!
Beth,
Funny you mention the Stepping Up study. I just began facilitating it 2 days ago (Wed., Jan. 9th), and I've heard nothing but great feedback. :) I had worked ahead and am on week 4, but I wanted to save the DVD watching with the ladies so it could hit me fresh like it will/did them. Just want you to know that the almost 40 women in this study on Wed. mornings are expecting to hear from God in this study on the Psalms. And the cool part is....they will.
Thank you for being the humble servant God has called you to be. You're one of my best friends and I only see you once or so a year at a LPL conference, with my best girlfriends of course. :) We'll all be in L'ville, Ky in Aug.!

We just began our 3rd Bible Study Group Last night (A Woman's Heart- Revised) and as we began to ask new women to join us, many said the same thing...They had never had good luck in joining a women's group. Many said the experiences were not good...hurtful. They had faced lack of trust by other women, unacceptance. I keep hearing the same overwhelming thing, and it hurt me so. I wanted to convey to them not all groups are the same & how sorry I was they were hurt. This should not be the norm! I plan to change it! But Praise the Lord, 6 knew women joined our group, 2 of which have never been in bible study!
You are so right about how important Bible study is. We have a great group here in Lexington, NC. We have completed seven of your studies. I have grown by leaps and bounds with each one. I am hoping that our leaders will choose the study on Psalms soon. The Psalms have always given me such comfort. Amazing how alive those words are thousands of years after they were written. God is so very good!!
Siesta you never cease to just crack me up!! I'm so glad to know that you don't take yourself so seriously!! Blogging to the point you need an Advil! hahah Love it!
I've done 5 of your studies and I can't wait to sit down with you in heaven and rejoice over the work the Father did - and still does - thru you in my life!! He is good! I'll be starting the "Ascent" in the spring and just about can't wait!!! Thanks for your obedience and taking us places others have feared to tread!! GOOD STUFF!!
Val
Dear Beth, You are just the sweetest. Thanks for your continued comments about the community here. I love it too, and feel like I know you personally. Thanks for getting us all connected like this!
Our little group in Dalton started Stepping Up last night and I loved it!!! Travis rocked "My Passion". I'm a pentacostal woman doing a bible study with a baptist group and I only pray that they will feel freedom to worship through the rest of the study.
I do appreciate any prayers for a husband that siestas throw up, as long as they know that I know that a man will not complete me, in Christ or anything else! (So basically, please pray!)
Thank you for continuing to bless and enrich our lives by being open to share in these studies. More than words... all I can say!
Praying for you and LPM as always!
Love,
Jenn
I heard you speak while in college at the conference Passion. The husband and I remember that you hit certain places in our hearts. I still have my notes and a deep desire for the passion of God. It just looks different now that I am walking with God in a different stage of life dealing with a multitude of post-partum issues.
We recently moved with a 7 month old to your city for 1 year. I was pleasantly surprised to find that you were doing a study because you lived here! My heart skipped a beat because I had been praying for a bible study to join where I could study God's word that will help me deal with the issues that birth and babies sometimes bring.
I went to the last 2 weeks of Esther and am excited about "Breaking Free". It was 10 years ago that I heard you speak and you said on Tues that it was 10years ago that you wrote this study. I am looking forward to freedom. Thanks for blogging. I hope you don't mind, but I have linked you to my blog.
Dear Beth,
Congrats on Melissa's engagement and upcoming wedding. What a joyous occassion! I do feel like we are friends having done almost all of your studies. Well, I just started Stepping Up with my Bible Study group and I'm sure it will be what God needs it to be for me. I wanted to share something which I found particularly intriguing.
Yesterday morning was the first morning I got face down on the floor - the unvacumed floor. I poured out my heart to God as we have just lost the mother of my son's college roomate in a tragic car accident. She and her husband had stopped by the side of the road to help a single car accident and had gotten out of their car and were walking towards the accident. It was dusk and an elderly man (87) veered into the emergency lane and hit both the mother and the father. The mother has hovered between life and death for a month and just went to be with the Lord two days ago. The Dad still has significant head injury issues but we are praying for a full recovery.
So, things are sad and complex here given our relationship with the family. We set our boys up together in their room this fall (they are freshmen) and spent an enjoyable parents weekend together. We all live in Savannah although the boys are away at school. So anyway, yesterday I got down on my face and started to sob - why why why? You God are sovereign and I trust you but it is so hard. She left 3 boys ages 20,19 and 18. Plus there are other complicated issues involving my son with their son - so I was giving my overwhemed heart to our Great God. I asked Him to fill me with the Holy Spirit so that I could be a beacon in the darkness to those lost. Ten minutes after I got off the floor I received a phone call which sent me reeling into the largest emotional crisis I have had in years - all surrounding these events (my son has gotten into some bad things at school and I'm trying to help him set up healthy boundries which don't feel good to him - and involves his roommate who has just lost his dear mother) anyway, the point is that as soon as I got face down the enemy came and attacked big time. It was a very sad and hard day with many tears. But our God came through at the end of the day when an acquaintance called to tell me that she wanted to call me to tell me she was worried about my son and his roommate and when I told her my discision she (who is a Christian Godly woman) told me I was doing the right thing and not to worry about wagging tongues. I truly felt God's hand on the call as if to say "Yes my child, trust me, you are doing the right - although hard thing with these boys."
So, I got down on my face this morning (a little worried about what might erupt today after showing such devotion!) but I feel his peace flowing through me.
Thank you for all you do for us - what a great teacher you are! Please pray for the Coe family to know God's love and comfort during this terrible time and pray for my son to constantly ask the Holy Spirit into his life to keep him from dangerous temptations.
I love you and your team -
In His Amazing Grace,
Susan
Dear Beth, Amanda and Melissa,
First of all, congratulations on your upcoming wedding, Melissa...the two of you are a beautiful couple. Sounds like he will fit right in with the Moore clan! I am thrilled to hear that not only is Melissa gaining a wonderful husband, but the Moore's are gaining a new son/brother to love! My prayers are with you all.
I have to tell you that Breaking Free is everything that you shared in your blog, and so worth taking the time to invest in. I know it actually takes less than three months to do on principle, but I have taken the last 9 months to go through it slowly and let the truths that God is teaching and the healing seep into my very marrow. It has been life-giving to me, and I thank you for the time you have taken to write and now update the study. (as wonderful as it is, if you are revamping it, I can see I'll be getting a new version and soaking the Word in again through this study. For those of you who have not done Breaking Free...it really is THAT good!).
In fact, I have been recommending it in my coaching ministry and have used it to help my ladies learn to do Bible Studies and to unlock truth for themselves and find freedom and purpose in their lives. They have loved it. I'll be starting a group this summer facilitating Breaking Free, and I look forward to what God is going to do through the study.
God is so Good...and His Word never fails!
Beth
Good morning this chilly Houston day - how beautiful it is . . . going to have to get outside and absorb it fully!
Was praying for our single Siestas early this morning (or late last night - I am such a night person!) as the Holy Spirit prompted me via thinking about the "anniversary" posting ----- what dear hearts and lives were so sweetly revealed by so many comments - my totally bestest friend is divorced and still single (we walked through that with her MANY moons/years ago) and she is just the most pricelsss treasure to my heart . . . my man and I consider her so a part of our family, as does our children who are older - any special occasion - she is there! She is a right few years older than I, but for 31 years we have been great friends - she knew me when . . . ouch! Lots of water under our bridges.
Got my new freedom workbook yesterday - sweet hubby went to a Lifeway almost close to his work and then - ulterior motive maybe? to eat lunch at an Indian restaurant - he loves curry!! Was so neat to see it in my chair when I got home from worship practice. Picked it up last night to just re-read the introduction and see what the first memory verse was before I went to sleep - just got plain excited to do the study again - Our God shows Himself new every day and I am overwhelmed with His mercy . . . I praise Him that He will reveal more areas to be freed from and that I am not taking this journey alone - have all of you to share it with and those several thousand Siestas on Tuesady nights . . . I so do not take for granted that I can attend on Tuesday's - I count it a privilege and a grace gift - every week when I leave I am in awe that Abba has me in a place where I can go . . . every week is a new adventure and joy ride.
There are so many places in this world where what we do on this blog, and the FREEDOM to study the Word and talk about it is forbidden ---- we are blessed Siestas . . . so very blessed.
Praying peace for the single and again single Siestas today - and those with kids ---- double portion! Father, be extravagant in their lives today . . . they need an anniversary present - - -
Blessed Weekend Siestas - my man and I are off for a Saturday photo jaunt - as always! and today, more leaves to pick up! You are loved! Dearly.
Like everyone else, Beth, I love you! Studying God's Word with you has literally changed my life. I have done Breaking Free, and God certainly used it to free me from some nasty strongholds, but the first of your studies I ever did was Believing God, and ohhhhhh man, did God EVER do a huge work in me through that study! I have such a tender place in my heart for Believing God because of all He taught me and changed in me and grew in me through that time. I've done it twice and would love to do it again someday. I may be one who has to break free from Believing God! (the study only, of course, never the act of believing)!
Beth, I too am a "regular book" lover and usually have two or three going at once. I love the page on the Living Proof website that tells us what tools you use for Bible study, and I would love to hear about what "regular books" you are reading, as well! Kind of like "Beth's Book Club". :)
My Bible study group - the one who led me to Believing God and Breaking Free - disbanded about a year ago, and since then I haven't been able to find another group who are DESPERATELY SEEKING JESUS, and not just doing a study because it's the thing to do. I am asking God to put me in a group of women who are passionate about knowing Him. When He does, I'm hoping they will be willing to do Stepping Up, because I so want to learn more about the Jewish Feasts!
Thank you, Beth, for being willing to allow God to use your life for His glory and for the benefit of all who encounter you. We love you!
~Believing God for all my days....
I am very excited about the next thing, which for me is Breaking Free. I have never done it, and with the truckloads of stuff I used to drag along with me, I am sure it will be difficult and amazing! I have to say I was heading toward Stepping Up, and I have been so excited about it, but I know the stirring and guidance of the Holy Spirit, so Breaking Free it is!
I just want to say again, how thankful I am for this blog. Since we just moved so far away, it is now the only place I have friends. So, thanks a bunch!!!
Love Y'all!
Holly, in NM
Good morning Beth, I just finished my homework in Psalms and I was laughing out loud about the "gravel in the forehead". I was thinking that everytime I go face down, I go vacuum afterwards becuz I get a close up look at my carpet. With all of us going "face down" ,we should all have cleaner souls and floors! much love, Ann
Dearest Beth,
I want to thank you for your passionate love for Jesus...you are right, it IS contagious, and I have caught it from you!!
I often think of you talking about your mentors Buddy and Marge, and telling God "I want that!" I have taken to telling God that often when I see people in love with Jesus and in love with His Word.
"I want that, God!" I want to love Him with wild abandon and have a burning passion for His Word. I want to know Him intimately and walk with Him every single second. I want to be one whom He can esteem (Is. 66:2)
Thank you for sharing your contagious love for Jesus with everyone who will listen!
We love you Beth
I have to be honest(though I think I hear the gasps of the siestas as I write this)...I never finished my Breaking Free class or book. I know I should....fear has the best of me. You said somewhere in the video about a dear sweet friend of yours that had passed away and you and Amanda (I think) were going through her Bible study books. You both agreed that while you had looked through some of the other studies, you would not look in Breaking Free. Never had I thought about what might happen to those books if I died! But as I was going through Breaking Free, the fear that my family might find AND read what I wrote paralyzed me! I was obviously at a place where "I" was the focus and I hate that I missed out. But thank you for encouraging me to do it...the fact that you are going through the book and DOING the homework is spurring me on!
I will be praying for the Bible study group you are with right now. I will pray they are not as shallow as me ( :) ) and that fear will not have a place there!
Bless you for your faithfulness!
Just wanted to let you know, my heart's desire for several years is to be free(free from fear). When I saw you were doing Breaking Free, o how much I wished I was in Houston so I could journey with y'all. Anyway, I discovered Lifeway.com has available downloads of the Breaking Free videos and audio versions for sell. So last night I downloaded the introduction. I am doing this study alone, but believe with my heart it is time. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. My heart and mind are being renewed through His Word. Please continue to pray for us siestas doing the study alone for Galatians 5:1.
Love ya.
Hi Beth..
I am so glad I came on to read your blog today. Our church has not done one of your studies in a good long while. I had said a few months ago that I just needed to be in a good Beth Moore study. Well, my church offers discipleship on Wed. evenings. I lead the preschool ministry (VeggieTales..so cute) on Wed. One of my pastors came to us a few weeks ago and said.."we're doing Stepping Up, would yall like to take it, if so, I'll get someone to facilitate on Sunday afternoons for you guys that teach on Wed. evening." I was touched that he was considerate about the fact that we couldnt participate on Wed nights. But I still wasnt sure if this was the time to take on even more. But after reading your blog, I do feel like I probably should go on and take that study. I can handle 6-7 weeks! I guess I am rambling myself..But thanks for your words on your blog and mainly your obedience to God..
Blessings ~ Alyce
Thanks for the update on the studies. This is my final semester in school, so I can't wait to start some bible studies when school is out.
Breaking Free is my nightstand book right now; however, I'm sorry to say, I fall asleep not long into it, so I've had to reread a lot...but I think I have the first two chapters down!! ;)
Many blessings to you...have a fabulous weekend!
Beth,
What a timely posting, as I am on my way out the door to Bible study (Stepping Up, no less). I cannot thank you enough for this ministry and for giving me the tools with which I am able to get into my Bible and meet with God. Many years ago, when I was a baby Christian, these studies got me to know my Bible better than ever. There is absolutely NO SUBSTITUTE for in depth Bible study.
I live in an area where Bible study is not valued by many, even within the chuch. People are "too busy" and distracted to make the time for God. Many of the pastors preach what my husband and I call "Scripture lite", using the Bible for a reference to a good story, but not actually teaching it. I am so hungry for the Word, and I praise God regularly for LPM and others who help Christians know the God we praise even better through solid teaching.
You are truly a blessing,
Michelle
My Sweet Beth,
Thank you so much for your sweet blog about us single sistas! Sometimes its hard to be single but for me I am waiting on the LORD and his best for me. I am 34 years old and I am finally at peace that if I never get married then its ok. If though of the above stated doesn't mean us single sistas don't get lonely but the only one who can fill that cup is the LORD no matter if you are married or single. We can try to fill with other things like children, family, friends but if we continue to go to other things and people we will end up dry. This is my life WORD. You taught this on Life Today when I first heard it and it has changed my life forever. God's WORD is the only thing that will bring freedom and wholeness.
Thank you so much for your honesty and being the teacher God has called you to be. Through you and the Holy Spirit I have a hunger for God and his Word that I pray will only be quenched by being in the WORD and as day by day it changes me into what my LORd and Saviour wants me to be.
If you take Big Mama a pound cake I want to see the pictures and read all about it on one (or both) of your blogs. That would be so much fun!
In the movie the "Color Purple" one of the characters starts singing "God is trying to tell me Something".
Well- He certainly is.
The second to the last paragraph hit me right between the eyes. In a good way, I might add. I am working on forgiveness right now. I have your book "Praying God's Word."
Not surprisingly, I have felt peace. Not surprisingly, IT IS HARD and the battle is mighty. I know his word is powerful, and I will have victory through Christ.
Dear Beth:
Have you ever felt like God was hitting you with a lightning bolt to confirm want He want from you? Well this week has been one of those weeks for me. I asked you all to pray for me as I decided which studies to send to a couple of missionary women. Let me kind of recap how things went. When I sat down the other night to order I was planning on getting the Daniel study and A Women's Heart Gods dwelling place.( I think that was the name of the last one.) Well I switched after reading about each one on DVD I felt like I should get the Stepping up for one of the women. (Daniel was requested so that one was for sure.) Anyway I was not sure so I asked for pray. Boy I don't think I have ever heard one studies so talked about as I have the Stepping up study in the last couple of days. Breaking free is a close second but is not on DVD soooo. The studies were ordered last night. This mornings post has confirmed the decision to purchase Stepping up. In fact now I want to do that study. Please keep praying for those who will receive the studies in what ever way God leads.
As to Breaking Free. It was such a good study. It is what God used to really help start the journey of freedom from fear. A thorn yes, but not a bondage anymore praise God. In one study I remember you Beth saying something like we can live in the land of the living or be walking dead. (Yes this is a very loose translation) Well that stuck with me and I have prayed that I would live in the land of the living. It is more exciting that way don't you think.
Our God is and Awesome God.
Kim B.in Az
Beth,
I echo you on the study vs the book regarding Breaking Free! I bought the book - read the book - LOVED the book - HOWEVER - doing the study - looking up all the scriptures, praying His Word, learning to let Him fill every empty spot in my being has brought me such SWEET freedom! Praise Jesus!
Thank you for being faithful to our Father and being willing to be so candid because, dear friend, that obedience has given MUCH fruit!! You always point straight to HIM in all of your studies and I love that about you - you KNOW who it is all about, our precious Father!
God bless you, Siesta!
Have a great weekend!
Beth,Last summer I spent quite a bit of time in the Psalms, especially 119. It was such an intimate time with the Lord that I loved so much. In February, I will be co-facilitating Stepping Up. I am eager to begin study when we complete A Woman's Heart. Thank you for your diligence and faithfulness in preparing these wonderful indepth studies. There is so much I need to learn - even about how to use resources to study independently. I have been a believer for many years, but the Word of God is so much more precious to me in this season of life. I am so blessed by all my sweet siestas. Love, Miss Dee
Thanks for your words on the need for an interactive daily study.
It's that time spent with God that changes us from the inside out!!!
Our group is getting ready to revisit one of your older studies -To live is Christ. We start Tuesday, January 22nd.
As the ladies prepare for their weeks of homework, I will give them your words of encouragement -
...... I am convinced that the in-depth, life-style study of God's Word is where it happens. ….I love any sound study of God's Word. Digging into the depths of Scripture and having your mind deliberately and consistently renewed by God is what freedom is all about……
Thanks for this blog and the chance to interact. I am so, so, so encouraged by all the women who love Jesus and all the things happening in their lives and corners of their world to – Live for Christ.
Continued congratulations to Melissa and Colin and prayers for them for a blissful and blessed marriage.
Terry
I do not usually write in, but am a regular reader of the blog and love it. I am also one of the "Raleigh Girls" and am leading the study at my church, along with 3 other teachers who are offering it at different times! I am writing to let "tulip in Idaho" know that I would love to share our "Stepping Up" kit with her. Not sure if that is even appropriate to offer......oh well. I am in North Carolina and will gladly send it her way in 6 weeks! My email is gslabach@yadtel.net
Oh Beth!
You make me smile!
The first "real" bible study I did was Daniel. It rocked my world! I talked and talked about it with everyone. In fact, I was just in the American Girl store in Chicago and my husband said to me, "Honey, is this Babylon or what?!". :)
The second bible study I attempted was the online version of Believing God. I keep getting off my game ... and haven't finished it yet. But, I'm going to - even though I've long ago lost my blue bracelet!
Anyway, I appreciate all that you do in His name. I've seen you twice - first in Detroit at a Living Proof Live event and second as the pre-conference Women of Faith speaker in Cleveland. I learned so much and I carry it around with me. Thank you so much for getting up there on that stage and preaching what God gives you!
So ... now I've added Breaking Free to my list. Its a long list, Siesta! I have three young girls and I'm a stay-at-home Mom. But, eventually, God willing, I'll be able to complete my list as He would have me. For now, I'm just trying to devote some time to the Lord each day. Reading one verse of scripture and saying my prayers. It's a small piece ... but over and over I'm learning that God wants me to just get this down before I go on trying to do bible studies and reading books!
Wow! Guess I got a little off track.
Blessings to you and your family!
Rachael in Ohio
Dear Beth,
Love love love Stepping up and I'm only on the first day. It speaks to so many that I know. I wonder-- what do you do when Christian friends really hurt your feelings? It's tough. I love your sound advice and teaching.
Blessing and Wisdom to you.
Hey Girlfriend-
You are so funny! I was going to say that you're kinda weird in a good way also, but... I tell my 16 year old all the time that I'm weird and it's okay with me to be weird. I love the transparency in you, it's one of my favorite things about you.
Stepping up is starting out great! The Leadership/DVD/workbook is what I asked for as a Christmas present from my mother-in-law! Who knew? God is very funny in that the very person who called me, "a bull in a china closet" has turned out to be my prayer partner and strongest supporter! God can sure do a work! WOW! His word is so powerful, wait..let me get it right..."God's word is alive and active in me,...I'm believing God!"(do the appropriate sign language cause I did)! Love you friend, and praying for you every day!

Hi Beth! Thanks so much, as always, for the encouragement. And the giggles. I, too, have just begun Stepping Up and I have to tell you that in the intro video when you said someone must be "down" I slunk deeper in my pew because I just KNEW you were going to turn to the camera and look right at ME! lol. And you did. So yeah...I need this study. I'm loving this study. The Psalms have always been my favorite. I don't care what I'm feeling or dealing with, it's all there in the book of Psalms! LOVE THAT.
And I love you, too!
Susan
I'm going to run to Mardel's and buy the Breaking Free workbook. I've read the book forwards and backwards but have never done the worbook. I'm excited to get started! I hope your day is as fabulous as you are!!!
Beth,
My Wednesday morning Bible study group started "Stepping Up" this week. We are so looking forward to digging into His word. We have 3 first timers in our group and I can't wait to study His word with them.
I haven't done "Breaking Free" but am anxious to do that one in between the other studies. My first study (that I actually finished) was "Believing God" and it changed my life!
I thank God for what He does through you and I thank you for surrendering to His call!
Praise God!
Jill in KY
Beth,
I would love to know the studies of other teachers you would recommend to us. I have helped facilitate Priscilla Shirer's two studies but we are always looking to expand our horizions. We usually facilitate one of your studies but we have intermixed some others when you do not have something new.
We are beginning Stepping Up on the 16th of January at our church. I have done all of your studies and feel like I know you. You are truly a breath of encouragement to me from the Lord. You actually taught me what Bible study means. Thank you for being faithful to God's command on your life and for sharing what He is teaching you to us.
Tina
I was at the Raleigh Living Proof conference when you taught on the Psalms of Ascent! I hadn't realized there was an actual study now! Very exciting. Those weeks after the Raliegh Girls weekend were so sweet while studying in the Psalms. Especially with my Carolina Gals from church. Reading this post brought back so many wonderful "southern" memories!
Beth just had to let you know what God has done at our church with women studying His word.
Fall'06- 3 participants (praying for more)
Spring'07- 8
Fall'07-- 20
Spring'08 2 groups doing Stepping up with @ 50 participants!! We are all so excited and jumping for joy and falling on our faces!!
Praise GOD...and thank you--we love you.
Well, I must say I am currently in a Bible Study Battle. I am signed up to begin the Stepping Up Bible study next week with my church ladies. However, I still have the last half of Daniel I am finishing up and have just begun studying the book of Acts. I am enjoying both so much but I so badly want to do Stepping Up also. I know everyone will be talking their pretty little heads off about it and I'm gonna wanna be a part of it:) I'm thinking I'm gonna have to wait on this one and finish up what I've started. This ole brain can't hold or retain much anymore so I have to limit my intake and pray that what I do take in STICKS!
Thank you for faithfully serving Jesus, The One and Only! (I received this new devotion for Christmas so yes, I'm doing that too:)One day maybe I'll be as "Spiritual" as all of my studies and books make me look:)
Just can't get enough of HIM!
Much Love,
lynda m.
Beth, I'm leading a group that just started "Stepping Up". Last night was our first night to discuss the Week 1 lesson. Because we're busy, young Moms and couldn't imagine trying to fit an in-person session into our schedules we decided to hold our sessions via teleconferences. So, we get all comfy in our homes and remotely we dial in every Thursday night at 9 p.m. to discuss the study.
Last night was so amazing - after coming off of my face from the closing prayer I told my girls that I skipped into the family room and snuggled up next to my hubby from being on a "high" from the discussion w/ the girls in God's Word. And, he asked "what are you so happy for?" (smile) I shared that with my study group and many of them did the same thing - their faces were beaming afterwards and their spouses noticed as well. Just had to share... thank you for Stepping UP - one of the girls came up with our theme that goes along with the study title is, "Big Things Poppin'" in 2008 ;-)
God bless!

Beth, I knew from the first time I attended one of your Monday night Bible studies back in 2000 that you were exactly as human as all the rest of us! I love to listen to what God has to say through you, and the way He has you deliver his word is just the way we all need to hear it. I love to see the look on your face before you read a scripture passage that is really speaking to you at the moment.
I use to pray and ask God to let me have that same excitement, and one day He said, "Girl, you CAN have that, why heck, you can have that times 100 if you'd like. You just had to ask!"
Next thing you know I found myself reading the Word, laughing out loud, slapping the pages, pointin' to words and saying things like, "Look at that, isn't He great!" And my poor husband would be in the middle of watching a game of some kind and wonder what had come over me (but loving it all the while!)
That's what I love about our God. All we have to do is ask and He will supply. Shoot, more times He supplies before we even ask, we just fail to see it was Him.
About the Bible studies and workbooks....I will admit that the ones that I DID finish and did all the homework, are the ones that I got the most from, that I grew from! DUH!!! I always got stuff out of the others, from the video's and the other women discussing, but until we dig deep into the study ourselves, and really allow God's word to speak to us and soak in, we are cutting ourselves short!
OK...I could go on forever. But I'll save the rest for another time!
Love you Girls!!!!
"Digging into the depths of Scripture and having your mind deliberately and consistently renewed by God is what freedom is all about. ...You and me - We need to be in SCRIPTURE!"
Amen, Beth. Amen, Beth.
I started Believing God in January '05. Haven't stopped being in the Word since. I have been a Christian for over 30 years, but I've had more growth in the last 3 years then all 27 years prior. I have fallen in love with Jesus again. I love being in the Word. I love being with women studying the word. I can't NOT be in a study ever again. A daily devotion is necessary, but for me, so is the in-depth study.
Thank-you, a million times, thank-you.

Amen! Amen! Beth is so right. There is nothing like flipping through your own Bible and finding those answers for yourself. I can read a trade book in no time and think warm, fuzzy thoughts about what I read but nothing impacts me or renews my mind like the sharp sword of God's Word. I don't know where I would be without it...yes, I do, I would be way back yonder.
By His grace,
Mischia
Thanks for the encouragement. I am leading Stepping Up starting next week for 50 women. You must be so thrilled to be getting another son-in-law. Congratulations! I love that I can read about God's Word and Payless shoes all in one blog! Thanks for sharing your heart.
Hi Beth -
Such a sweet entry. I've been absent in the world of blogging for a little while because I've just felt the Lord leading me to be a listener for a while ... enough with the writing for a bit! He's been teaching me bountifully, and I can tell from the stir inside that I'm about ready to get back on the wagon.
I just wanted to say that Breaking Free was the first study, of yours, that I completed. I was so blessed!!! Thank you for being so usable by God that He would bless us through your gift of teaching. I've done several more since and have been transformed each time. My ladies group just began Stepping Up last week, and I've got to tell you, "I've never loved the floor so much!" I'm dropping flat every chance I get, except where I might cause someone to trip or try to rescue me. :) God is so great!! I love Him so much, and thank you for being such a wonderful light on the path. Love you bunches.
And, congrats on your sweet girl's engagement. I know you're glowing all over.
Bye for now -
Monica
Dear Beth,
Thank you so much for your words. You tickled me with what you said about us single women. I have been married but now I am single (mother of two sons) but you are right. I love my life because I have come to the place where when God calls I can go. Yes I do have a male friend in my life my that is enough we both love our families and working for God.
As for bible studies our group finished Daniel in the fall and are working on HEAVEN by Randy Alcorn. (recommend highly) then in Feb we are starting A Women's Heart. So looking forward to doing it again. Thanks for all you do and the encouragement we receive from you each time I read this blog from you and all the other siestas out there in blog land

Beth, you are too cute and funny! I just love how you "talk/type"!
I have been going through a fresh season "wrestling" some things out before the LORD and I was doing my prayer and quiet time this morning when the LORD just spoke in my spirit.."Cross Your River of Fear" and I remembered I have it!!
I have the audio version of the Kansas City taping in 2005...about Habbakuk!
I went digging and found it and listened and I'm just more madly in love with Jesus than ever!
HE just knows what I need when I need it and HE uses you because you are a beautiful vessel and you speak my "language" :-)
I'm doing the Stepping Up I got for Christmas but the LORD made it pretty clear the first of the year we weren't going to be going up any further until I let go of some more baggage.
Is it possible to stand on one of the Steps while Breaking Free and then continue up the steps?
That's my direction for now.
I know what you mean...I wore myself out as well...:-)
Love you Siesta..thank you for being a beautiful vessel.
You and your family are prayed for just like my own.
Teri
Oh, Beth you are so funny. I'm hoping my church will be offering the Psalms study next fall. I think I told you we turned your study "To Live Is Christ" into a full year study, so we will be continuing that next week. We usually get the newest study if there is one the next fall though. We turn most of them into year-long studies.
We have been so spoiled this week with all of these posts!!!
Congratulations to Melissa and Colin - I am thrilled to be invited to pray and can't wait to see wedding pic posted!!
You know - Bible study is so fun!! I am also starting Stepping Up this Monday - and I'm going to tell the girls I have shoes just like Beth!! Got to love the Payless!!
Thank you so much for this blog and the encouragment you give us. I tell you ever since that one post about the bird pecking at Beth's car door mirrors, I truly try to look at the everyday things and see what God may be trying to tell me - and it is amazing!!
God bless your family and LPM!!
Love - Susan
This made me laugh:
Keith and I like to say that we've each been married to ten different people and they all look suspiciously similar.
I don't feel so bad now! I love the man that I'm married to now, but we've been there!
Thank you for being such a huge blessing to me, Beth.
Dear Beth,
I am currently in a season of "unasked for" rest. The Lord has asked me to take a seat for a while. I had lunch with a friend yesterday who has begun Stepping Up with her Sunday School group and she asked me to get the book and do it with her. I thought about it this morning...What could be more appropriate than soaking my heart in His Word while He has me sitting for a while.
Thanks for letting Him use you in such a mighty way!
Hi Bethie, I started your Living Beyond Yourself last night (with Miss Paula, another blog siesta, as our leader)and am looking forward to having my life changed even more. I was one of the original participants of Believing God online way back when. That was a fantastic experience. The studies you write seem to get better and better or is it sweet Jesus getting better and better in my life? :) Love you and can't wait to hear more wedding plans.
Beth,
I just wanted to thank you for your prayers and dedication to our Savior. The studies God has given you have changed my life.
Much love to you, LPM, and your family.
PS. I read in one of the blogs about our relationship with Jesus. I too am having a trouble with knowing the difference in my relationship with Jesus and God. I have asked several friends and they do not have the answer either.
Dear Beth,
Have done all your studies (long distance unfortunately) and eagerly await the newest releases. Talking about Breaking Free reminded me of what a great study it was. I've recommended it to several friends but I'm wondering if there will ever be something similar available for men. I know you say that's not your area of ministry and I understand completely. Just wishing there was something for the guys who desperately need it - would there be a godly pastor or Bible study leader you know who could run with it?
Thanking God for you and asking Him to protect you and shower you with blessings-
YES!!!! I have been waiting for the re-make!...Breaking Free helped me reclaim my life & marriage and changed Jesus' and my relationship forever. I know the freedom found in pure and grateful repentance!!! I have dragged so many women through Breaking Free, and nearly all of your studies. (Yes, I do others, but yours are the most deep & relevant.) Last year I moved the studies outside of my church, to a friend's coffee shop after hours, so women of many churches would come & learn. On Jan 23rd, this time in a 100-year old ex-hotel that my husband & I own, we'll start Stepping Up. I am frantically painting and decorating, trying to make the space look somewhat groovy and smell like fresh coffee instead of "Eau de Olde Musty Building" (Do I hear 'Chanel No. 1902'?). Pray the fragrance of the Lord will prevail on our hair clothing when we leave the room!
Thank you Beth, for staying obedient to Jesus!
Oh, Miss Beth,
It will be such fun sharing the post-wedding excitement in Vancouver, BC! I will be there with my 3 daughters, and one of them I haven't laid eyes on since she returned from her Air Force service in Kyrghystan (I may hug her till she breaks!) I can't think of a better way for us to share a reunion time that with all my siestas. . .
I am so in love with God, and just love His Word; and when a woman I have the privilege to share with or teach "gets it" it is a thrill that just can't be beat. I so agree that women should fully participate in Breaking Free; I was released from so much bondage, and am so grateful to you, and Kay Arthur, and Henry Blackaby, among others, who helped me as I opened the Bible and started digging in.
I look forward to meeting you, even if it's just a wave from the seats!
Your siesta in Oregon, Beverly
Yep.. I'm currently "Stepping Up" all by myself (well, with GOD, of course) and I LOVE it. I just began week four, but what really, really got me was the analogy of the people in Angola who would EAT THE SEED instead of PLANTING IT for harvest. WOW.. I so don't want to be guilty of eating the seed. Thank you, God, for that incredible word.
I often read your blog to my husband, cuz he thinks you're great, too. We were cracking up about the "married to 10 different people" comment you and Keith make. We can relate!!! Thanks for always making us laugh. :)
Oh.. and I always have at least 2 "real books" going at a time, too! God is soooo off-the-charts incredible!
Love you, Beth!
Linda
A few of my Bible study Sistas and I were part of your Raleigh Girls. We can't wait to do "Stepping Up." We plan to do it after Easter. Right now we are doing the revised A Woman's Heart. Since that was my first in-depth Bible study, I think it's my favorite. I didn't know I could love the Old Testament so much. And Jesus is just as alive in the pages of the OT as He is in the new! It's so much fun looking for Him!
Bible study ROCKS!
I just love you, Beth! I was telling my husband the other day that I know I may not meet you till Heaven, but I just can't wait to sit w/ my friend Beth and chat one day.
Thanks for the reminder of how important spending time in God's word is in bring us to where we need to be.....be praying I start "A Woman's Heart" on Tuesday and I really want to "dig in" to this one and not go through the motions....I'll be praying for all of y'all who are in a Bible study right now.
