A Brand New Year

Happy New Year, My Dear, Dear Siestas!

This morning I slipped out of bed while Keith and Beanie were still sound asleep and snoring. (Yes, both of them and both were under the covers.) I threw on my robe and slippers then did what I do almost every morning: I went over and pet (nearly shook) my trusty Sunny Dog to make sure my 15 year buddy was still alive and with me. I mostly have to touch her to communicate with her because she can hardly hear anymore. Praise God, she stirred immediately and jumped to her post right beside my feet. A northern had blown in during the night and the house was as cold as ice. I turned on the coffee maker, made a fire, grabbed my Bible, devotional book and cracked open a brand new prayer journal. (I've used the same one for years. I absolutely love the lay-out and the way it organizes your petitions and intercessions. It's by Debbie Williams of Hill Country Ministries here in Texas.)

As I rubbed the clean pages I wondered what kinds of records and requests would fill them before the year ended. I thought how thankful I was to be a follower of Christ and not have to fear the future. I've lived long enough to know there will be pain, perhaps even suffering, but I also know that God will see us through and show us - not only His faithfulness but - His GLORY. A far more priceless gift than painlessness. I also know we will laugh (because that's what our family does) and learn (because that's a high priority to this bunch of book-junkies). I pray continually for God to grant my loved ones and me a Spirit of wisdom and revelation and I pray that for you, my dear Siestas, as well through the year ahead. To see Christ revealed then know what to do with that revelation is the highest mortal experience.

I told God this morning how thankful I was for His penchant for new beginnings. Just think about it. He's the one who came up with New Years so we could have an annual new start. But we don't have to wait that long. He also came up with 12 different months, 4 seasons, and 7-day increments we call weeks. But we don't even have to wait that long. Every single evening the sun goes down and calls it a day then greets us the very next morning with a whole new start. Let's face it. Sometimes a day's so tanked, it just needs to end. Aren't you glad a bad day always does? But, then again, we don't even have to wait till morning. Because of Christ, we can have a new beginning any old time.

We are never further than about 18 inches from the next new start. All we have to do is hit our knees, repent, and ask God sincerely if we could just begin again. When secular psychology talks us out of taking personal responsibility for some of the messes we're in, they inadvertently talk us out of repentance. And nothing is easier than repentance if we're a willing soul. I told God this morning several things I just don't like about myself. I told Him that I was sure He had His own list of things He wanted to work in me through 2008 but that I wanted to put some things out on the table, too. I have a feeling based on the conviction of the Holy Spirit that our lists are fairly similar. I jotted down four major things I'd really like to see change in me this year and I wrote them in the front of my new prayer journal so I can check with God on our progress here and there throughout the year. From the look of things, God and I are liable to be busy this year but that's okay as long as we're close. I love Him so. And want to love Him so much more. I know you do, too.

Oddly, in a way that only someone who knows Christ can experience, I didn't feel condemned by my list. I felt free. Relieved. Not long ago someone I love said that he didn't want anything to do with Christianity because of all the guilt it imposes. I was mystified. Guilt is the very thing Jesus has freed me from. Somehow, they just don't get it. After I made my list today, I felt a release of hope and joy because I know without a shadow of a doubt that, if I'll trust Christ and let Him help me every single day my feet hit the pavement, I have the victory. I am more than a conqueror. I'm not left to my own devices. I have divine power from the Throne of Grace and the indwelling Presence of Christ. So do you. Beloved, those are reasons to look forward to the coming year with a heart of celebration and expectancy. The plans God has for you in Christ are GOOD. And PROFOUND. We don't want to miss them for the world.

I just want you to know that I look so forward to sojourning with you through the year ahead. God is already looking at our future as if it's past. He has it planned to a "t". Not one ounce of pain will be purposeless and not one inch of progress has to be joyless. There will be laughter. And there will be lessons. Guaranteed. If we will let there be. As my devotional reading pointed out this morning, God has Promised Land He wants each of us to possess this year. It is "a land the Lord your God looks after. He is constantly attentive to it from the beginning to the end of the year." (Deut. 11:12) That means today all the way to next December 31st. He will be with us, Siestas. Every single one of us. WE CAN DO THIS. And, glory to His gracious Name, we can do much of it together.

May the beauty of the Lord your God be upon you, Darling One, and may He establish the work of your hands for you. Happy New Year with love.

Happy New Year to you and everyone at Living Proof Ministries! I am excited to begin this New Year because I have a new outlook on life and faith in God. I am beginning to see things the way you described today....that whatever happens, God has planned it to a "t", whether it is good or bad times, painful or joyful, fast paced or slow paced...it is all God and it is all good! I finished your Bible study "Daniel" in December with the ladies bible study and I love learning how God had everything planned to a "t" and that he chose a prophet to show the human race hundreds of years before and thousands of years later that, indeed, He is in control and He already has it all planned out!Well, I better stop before I write a sermon! Love you all and have a Blessed New Year!

Happy New Year! Beth, thanks so much for the info. on the prayer journal. I just ordered one, and some of her Bible studies sound really good. Please pray for me not to fear pain. Please pray for my family in 2008. Please pray that we glorify God in all we say, think, and do. God Bless You and all at Living Proof. I am so excited that my Wed. night class is starting "A Heart Like His" and my SS class is starting "Stepping Up." These Bible studies have drawn me so much closer to God. Thanks so much for this web site as well. I am so thrilled to hear you talk about Esther while it's in progress.

You mentioned Sunny and having her 15 years now. We are just entering our journey with a new yorkie poo named Audry. She is such a sweet baby girl and we are buds already!

Beth, thanks for being so honest and not fake about anything. I made a big dinner tonight and my dressing turned out good! Hope yours was great on Christmas day.

Love you and pray for you sweet siesta,

That last sentence got me...

Psalm 90:17 - God gave it to me just a little time ago to speak to something so very specific I could have sworn He'd just written it and stuck it in my mail.

Thank you for your ministry, dear Beth. You mentor so many - I wonder if God allows you to see to what magnitude?

Blessings on your 2008!

I too have a list and at the top of it is road-something-or-other. Bad or poor drivers are my biggest pet peeve. I'm asking for more grace and compassion than I've shown in the past, while driving my daily commute to work. I'm not proud of it but there it is!

I've also chosen a word for this year - conviction. Something I need to continually pray about and live each day. I've read almost every one of your posts from 2006 on and am happy to say that upon retiring I am enjoying your first post for the new year. I believe today that God answered one of my prayers for direction and it happened today in the form of your blog. Thank you!

In Christ,
Maggie

Beth.........Just wanted to say thanks for always being a smile to my face. Linked into this from my daughter and it's been a blessing. I pray you have good health and many reasons to smile in 2008. I think this will be one of my most challenging years. I'm facing a lot of things i never thought i would have to deal with. Mostly health/weight issues. Right now i look and feel like a total freak of nature. The only thing i know is that in GOD's eyes i'm ok and thankfully he doesn't love me less because i look like i do. That alone keeps me from doing anything totally stupid much as at times i think that might be the only answer to my self loathing. Please keep me in your prayers and i will continue to come here for bright spots in my day. GOD BLESS YOU!!

The beauty of the Lord is definitely upon you. May God bless you with His everlasting peace, joy and love for this new year!

Haopy New Year Beth,

I have only commented a few times but have been with this blog since the beginning. AMEN to having a fresh start whenever we are humble enough to ask. I am looking forward to Stepping Up we start next week! I was pleased that I did see one of 2007's resolutions through to the end, reading the entire bible. It was my 2nd time to do so although the 1st time took 3 years. I encourage anyone who has not done so try it, it was truly a blessing both times.

Praise God for New Beginnings! I just finished your book Get Out of That Pit about thirty minutes ago. It was life changing! I am so blessed to pick it up and God gave me time to read it at night when the boys were asleep! (Five months later since it came out?) My heart had and has been singing Bebo Norman's I Life My Eyes for about two days and then I finally got to the chapter about singing a song of praise! And it was confirmed, God is so good! Thanks for listening to God when he asked you to write that book for us! You have blessed this momma of two precious boys so much. Now I have to run blog about God's goodness in hopes that my sisters will grab your book as well. Happy New Year! Mine could not have started out any better!

***AMEN***

I am looking forward to meeting all our siestas on these pages.

I too made a list for myself and God to track this year. I make one every year, I find it helpful.

Last year I took a huge step to allow healing in my heart concerning long over due forgiveness. It feels so good to start the year with a clean slate.

God gave me the verse in James 1
this year, to be a doer of the Word.

22 But (R) be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face [f] in a mirror; 24 for he looks at himself, goes away, and right away forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who acts—this person will be blessed in what he does. (S)

I can't wait , He is capitvating me.

I know you don't belong or want to be there, but what a great example and shining light you are to me. I pray a wonderful, God filled, laughter filled new year. Bless you, Carla

Dear Sweet Beth,
Happy New Year to you, too, siesta! And a big AMEN! to your words of wisdom. I,too, love new prayer journals, and I especially love my devotional book to be a journal book, too. My favorite thing is to go to my birthday devotional and read it on Jan. 1st. Since my birthday is in November, it gives me almost a whole year to ponder those words...and they always are profound.

We have been without a dog since June and so I went to the SPCA to get my husband a dog for Christmas. I got the most adorable 2-year old black cockerpoo and his name is Moses. I had to take him to our vet and had just gotten him settled down when a man walked into the vet's with his magnificent, huge boxer. Moses began growling at the boxer. I was so embarrassed until I found out the boxer's name is Pharaoh!

SUGGESTION FOR Y'ALL: I ordered as a Christmas present to myself all of Beth's Scripture cards and have a suggestion for other siestas who have bought them. Punch holes in the corner of each card, and put on a large ring (buy large rings at an office supply store). Now it is so easy to find the Scripture cards and because they are different colors you can put them all on one ring, divided by faith, hope and victory or have them on 3 different rings. Hang them in your kitchen, near your make-up mirror or near your desk where you will see them often and it is easy to pick them up to read a Scripture a day. (This had to be done out of necessity since the boxes they came in fell apart.) BUT, it is the best way to have them readily available! If you travel or work, they can be thrown into your suitcase or briefcase and take up very little room, but can give you a perfect gift from the Lord each day. And they are awesome! So thanks, Beth, for a great idea. Much love to all of the Moores, Joneses and LPM staff for a wonderful 2008! God Bless!

I also thank Him for the old...many words God has spoken to this heart from your lips or from your pen. Those old words still stir new...because they are His Words. And, my Sister, they have not returned void. No not one!
Much love to you!!

Beth,
What joy to hear from you on the first day of this brand new year.

I too had a time of reflection before God and I am so thankful He is not finished with me just yet. Our dear Father gives us every opportunity to come to Him without fear, agree with Him where we have fallen short and then start anew. Isn't He the greatest! "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus," Romans 8:1

I pray that each of us will remember who we are in Christ. We belong to the King and no one can strip us out of hands. May we walk with confidence that whatever comes our way, He will be there and He is all we need.

I look forward to sojourning with you and all my Siestas in 2008.

God bless you, dear Beth.

Looking forward to meeting so many of you this year in San Antonio.

Did Jackson have a white Christmas in Missouri? I was wondering about him today.

Happy New Year!

Hugs,
Mary

I haven't had the opportunity to read any blogs this past week, Christmas and all. But what a treat to read them tonight. Can I just tell you, it totally has blessed my socks off.

I began my New Year in much the same way, quiet alone with God writing in my journal. How mny of us Siestas in Christ began or day with our Lord and how amazing that throug His own blood are we connected! I love that about God.

As I have looked over my past year of twists and turns that God has brought me through, I know one thing for sure, it is more about my own persona relationship with Jesus Christ than anything and about taking Him on faith. And just when I think I know where it is He is taking me He never ceases to amaze me that only He really knows where we are going. (I love that about God too)

I wanted to tell you that because of you and your Ministry at LPM I am in fact on the ride of my life with our Lord, and I am doing things and going places with God that I never dreamed or even imagined, how amazing is God!

I have met so many Pharisees along the path and I a so thankful that God gave me an encorager. Thank you to all of you at LPM you are making a huge difference in so many lives and I am blessed to be able to say mine as well.
I am sitting here quietly at my computer while my household sleep listenig to Travis on my new iPod, my favorite favorite song since I was a child, "In Chrit Alone" and no one sings it quite like Travis. I know that God has so much more in store for all us Siestas this coming year.
God Bless
Mary

Beth,
Thank you so much for your sweet missive on New Years Day. I was thinking recently about another missive you posted not too long ago--about how there were 400 years of silence between Malachi and Christ's appearance. During that 400 years, was there not even the still, small voice of God? I can't imagine not hearing from Him at all. What a terrible, deafening silence.

Then I wondered--what about between the Lord's ascension and now? Has that been 2000 years of silence--no prophets, no booming voice of God--or just a different form of communication, i.e., the voice of the Holy Spirit?

If you should get around to it, I'd love to hear your perspective on that in a future blog entry.

Blessings to you, Beth.

Thank you for reminding me that His mercies are new every morning. I really love how God works. It amazes me. I am the one with the bags ready to be packed. There are big things I have to do but praise the Lord I have peace now. I know that even the hard things are going to be worth it to my family. I've spent so much of today fighting false guilt. I was not the one to cause the problems that my family is dealing with but for some reason I feel overwhelming guilt for even entertaining the thought of removing myself and my children from an unhealthy situation. My friend pointed out to me today that I was not asking for a divorce just a safe distance. I know the Lord is not disappointed with my decision and that He will hold me up. This is not going to be easy at all but it is something I should have done months ago. Stand my ground and be a woman of my word. Thank you all so much for your prayers. They were felt and welcomed. Only He knows the plans He has for me. My prayer for this year is that the Lord will restore wholeness to my husband and break the stronghold of addiction and that we can be a stronger family in the end.

I was learning about celebrations this morning and asking a lot questions. Don't you just love that He is the one who thought of celebrations in the first place! I think your entry today gave me even more insight and I just love your line about your new start is just "18 inches away"!

Happy New Year to you, too, Beth!

Two things you said really spoke to me -- "I pray continually for God to grant my loved ones and me a Spirit of wisdom and revelation ... To see Christ revealed then know what to do with that revelation is the highest mortal experience." I do pray that I would have the wisdom to know what to do with the things I learn about Jesus as I grow closer to him.

"From the look of things, God and I are liable to be busy this year but that's okay as long as we're close. I love Him so. And want to love Him so much more." I also want to stay close to him and come to love him even more.

Thanks for expressing the desires of my heart so well! May our Father grant us all much laughter and learning as we cling to him in 2008.

Such powerful words, dear Beth.... lately I have been struggling with the resurfacing of an old and, unfortunately, powerful and dangerous stronghold...... but the fact that God has provided each of us with a fresh opportunity to start anew with the dawn of a new year is humbling me to my knees in deep repentance and equally deep thankfulness. Yes, what you wrote is so very true and strikes a chord within me to hope in victory against my struggle... "nothing is easier than repentance if we're a willing soul."

a happy and blessed 2008 to you and each and everyone of your wonderful family.

I never thought about God having a list of "new year's resolutions" for me but that's a pretty neat thing. (I can say that now with complete innocence just like someone pledging to go to the gym every day, but I have a feeling there's probably much stretching and "pain" that goes along with it.)Thanks for the reminder that every day (or hour) can be a "new" moment with repentance and the desire to start again. Sometimes it's easier to think you are stuck in whatever pattern you're in until a big moment (such as the new year) comes along. God bless and as always, thanks for the words!

I have to admit that part of me was very glad to see 2007 come to an end!! It was a very hard year, BUT...

God taught us so much about himself during the year. While I don't want to do any of it over, I wouldn't trade it for the world. If I did, I would miss so much my God had for me!

He continues to amaze me. It blows my little brain to think that the God of the Universe has thought out every detail, every second of my life. How I can I not be head over heals in love with Him?!

I'm praying that God will knock the socks off of each memeber of LPM this year!

Anticipating HIM!

Precious Beth:

Happy New Year to you too, and thank you for this beginning blog post! I love new beginnings too!

My sweet husband of 30 years and I are greatly anticipating God's goodness in 2008 with two events in our home: our first grandbaby and a new daughter-in-love. I am so overwhelmed with the goodness of God to me this day.

Thank you for reminding me there is always a place to begin - and it doesn't have to be on a Monday! It can be at any moment in Jesus because He never sleeps or slumbers - praise His Name!

And thank you too, for reminding us that we are NEVER ALONE.

You are such a blessing - now I'm going to get up and add some items to my list of things needing change for the year - or better yet, for forever!

May your soul be as a well-watered garden, Isaiah 58:11

Happy New Year to you and your family and everyone here. I pray God's blessings on you and your ministry, that He will be glorified and you will blessed beyond measure in 2008.

The verse I was given to start the new year is:

"My earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or death." Phil. 1:20

I pray a year of boldness to maginify our Lord.

Have a happy Christ filled new year!

Good Morning and Happy New Year, Beth!
Thank you for your heart and the willingness to share. I truly look to you as a spiritual mom. I lost my mom 5 1/2 years ago and I savor your words closely to how I savored hers. Thank you for always pointing to Christ and never to yourself.
Have a great day.

My four-year-old and I were having a daily battle. As the day wore on, his behaviour would get worse and worse, requiring more and more negative attention from me. I tried everything until one day, after disciplining him, I asked him if he would like to start over. His face brightened and demeanor changed instantly. I saw an immediate improvement. Since then, we start over after every spanking, and recently have even gone days in a row without any! This principle of starting over made all the difference for him! It also has helped me remember that I can start over again any time I repent. Ah, the beauty of beginning again. Thanks for the reminder this morning – I can’t tell you how much I love reading this blog!!!

It's going to be a great New Year, isn't it?! I had to giggle a little when you were talking about repentance and the freedom from guilt in Christ. I realized, not too long ago, that I was actually beginning to look forward to repenting of my sin to God, just talking to Him and falling on His mercy so I could be free from my own junk! I was curious about this different attitude, so I talked to my Heavenly Father about it. I realized that, for the first time in my life, I was completely confident in God's unconditional love and acceptance -- He was NEVER going to say, when I confessed my sin to Him -- "that's it! I've done this a thousand times with you, and no more!" There is no end to His mercy; I am completely accepted in the Beloved, no matter how many times I fall. When I come to Him, and (now) freely admit that I can do NOTHING without Him, He is ALWAYS there, with open arms -- Praise Him.
I love Him so much! I love this blog, where fellow siestas love Him bunches, too.

Thank you Beth for the words of encouragement. What a beautiful description of repentance... God showed me something last year. That because he loves me (all his children)so much, He wants us to repent, cause it truly is for our own good, that He wants repentance because of his powerful love for me (us). He spoke it so strongly to my heart, "Repent, because I love you so much" and then he showed me in the Word the healing that repentance will bring.
I was so broken and happy at the same time, kinda like experiencing an oxymoron.

Happy New Year to You and yours...I will be praying for you.

Beth-I loved when you wrote "I am a follower of Jesus and don't have to fear the future". I have been fearing..I know I am a Christian, but when I think of how I fall so short of doing what is right, or getting upset, or short tempered,or other things that I know are not of God, I feel like how can He really love me. It seems like just believing in Him is not enough. I feel like a failure in living the "Christian Walk" so to speak. I feel such a fear of death for this reason. I think it just can't be that simple to trust God, believe in Him, try to do what is right, and all will be well. I am tired of living with this fear of the future, but since I am a Chirstian, I feel I can't share these thoughts with people I know. If you can give me some insight I would appreciate it so much. I want to be like you and be able to say "I don't fear the future"!

Happy New Year, Beth, and all siestas! I am feeling a tad gloomy today, feeling like with the busyness of the reason weeks I haven't spent the time with God that I should have. And I will confess right now that I can suffer with self condemnation like nobody's business! I threw in my Casting Crowns CD this morning and reminded myself how far the East is from the West! Amen? And I don't live by what I feel but by the Truth His Word reveals! Thank goodness! And thank goodness, like you said, we don't have to wait for each new year to start over...great is His faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see! Lisa

Dear Beth,

I had to smile at your morning routine. I too rouse the dog, grab the coffee, turn on the fire, grab my Bible, journal, and prayer book each and every morning. How I love early mornings with God when the house is quiet (except for the dog snoring--she goes straight back to sleep once she's been outside!).

I love that each new day is a new beginning, a chance to start fresh and clean. As Anne of Green Gables said, "Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet." And thanks for the reminder that even when those mistakes come, all we have to do is hit the floor to start fresh.

"I am making everything new!" What an incredible promise.

I woke up to a very cold morning filled with snow flurries.(a big thing in Tennnessee) and I am excited to be taking part of a reading through the Bible with a few of my fellow siestas! It is such an honor and a lot of fun sojourning with ya'll and I am looking forward to 2008 and all the new things we are going to learn together.
Thank you for spending time with us through His Word, conferences, prayer, and your blog. Have a wonderful day and Happy New Year to your wonderful staff and your sweet family.

Beth, I love looking at this new year as "promise land"! I am so excited but also a bit comprehensive at how He will work in my life to glorify Him. I love what you said for Jan 1st in your book 'Praying God's Word' which I use daily and have for several years: "The giant step in the walk of faith is the one we take when we decide God no longer is a part of our lives. HE IS OUR LIFE". From my scripture reading this morning I took Col 1:9-14 and prayed it back to God from my heart in my prayer journal. I replaced "we" and "you" with "me" and "I". It makes a beautiful prayer to the love I want to love and honor. Here is The Message version (so fitting for the new 'promise land'!):
"Be assured that from the first day we heard of you, we haven't stopped praying for you, asking God to give you (me) wise minds and spirits attuned to his will, and so acquire a thorough understanding of the ways in which God works. We pray that you'll (I will)live well for the Master, making him proud of you (me) as you (I) work hard in his orchard. As you (I) learn more and more how God works, you (I) will learn how to do your work. We (I) pray that you'll ( I Will) have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your (my) teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us (me) strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us (me). God rescued us (me) from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He's set us (me) up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us (me) out of the pit we (I) were in, got rid of the sins we (I) were doomed to keep repeating".

You are a blessing Beth.
In His Graces~Pamela

Beth,
I'm so thankful that you allow God to use you to do all that you do. I am so blessed by your way of looking at life. Sometimes it seems like no one else "feels life" like I do, and then I get into one of your Bible Studies, or even simply read this blog, and there it all is...and it makes sense! Isn't God amazing, that he uses someone I've never met personally, who is able to put my entire "jumble" into sensible words, and put His perspective on it, and I end up feeling blessed and special?

Thank you Beth for making yourself available to God to reach others!

Happy New Year!

I love the exhileration of a new prayer journal. My Mom gave me mine for Christmas. I also started Beth's 90 days with Jesus journal. I am so excited; my pen even writes better. We had a personality inventory at church on Dec. 30- Needless to say, I had a few things on my profile I would like God to work out in me. That thought is so scary, but I know my best interest is safe with my Savior. The comforting thing I ever learned from Beth was that I am sealed with the Holy Spirit. Praise God, His Word is clear on that! Amen

Morning Beth or maybe afternoon or evening.

I thought of what you said..."I thought how thankful I was to be a follower of Christ and not have to fear the future." Man do I fear the future but it does not have to be that way. Not understanding the great and awesome love of God for me and that He has really had a plan for me. It only is the devil that feeds lies. But, we all have a choice to believe or not to believe that is the question. To start a new day with Him instead of with Me.

The theif comes not but to steal, kill and destroy but I have come that you might have life and that more have it more abundantly. He spoke that to me many years ago while I was ironing clothes Decisions, Decisions.

When you were teaching Esther you came over to me and said, "Allison if you do the will of God you will get the promise. A big promise over you head." I saw that scripture 3 more times in 3 very odd places. He was speaking, I MUST LISTEN!

It is lovely that you began the new year with the topic of "all things new". That is a reality in my life, for sure. It is a funny thing, however, how even as we see and are stepping into the new thing that God is doing...that satan can be right there with all of the seeming realities of "all things the same". You are never going to change, never going to see His promises come to reality, never going to break free from the ties that bind you. But, what that continues to teach me is how desperately we (I need!)need to turn to the "true reality" of Scripture and to a choice of which "reality" I am going to believe...His or his.

The process of renewing our minds is just that ....a process. I am glad for the respite in between "getting it" and settling into the truth we have grasped as belief and the next piece of truth He wants us to get a hold of. And keep walking in it.

As far as I have come in my life and walk with God, I am always amazed at what still needs to be peeled off of the room of my mind and replaced with the truth. I am a Christian life coach and counselor, an ordained minister, and Bible teacher and people always look at people who do what we we do as if we have it all together. I know, Beth, that you and others would laugh out loud! If anything, I have tried to be as transparent as is appropriate about the journey that God has led me on and in the struggles that He has taught me great truths through, and how faithful He has been. If anything, I want others to see the goodness of God, the faithfulness of His covenant to us to never leave us, never forsake us, and how committed He is to see us transformed into the image of His Son...and if He ain't willing to give up on us, by golly, we better not be!! What freedom there is in knowing that freedom is exactly what He has called us to.

"And if the Son has set you free, you are free indeed!" Wonderful words!

There's lots on my mind this morning that I could say, but I've run on long enough. (Can you tell I am ready to preach it! Yikes!) I do covet your prayers as satan seems to want to really piledrive me these last few weeks. I am tired, but God is great and I feel His strength. I began this "new thing" of trusting God that since He definitely led me to start this life coaching/speaking ministry, that I need to proceed in faith no matter what the lion would roar in my ears. And he's been fierce lately! But, God is bigger. Amen.

Beth, thank you for your willingness to press on in faith in the direction God is leading you and being faithful to share with us along the way. You are such an encouragement to me..and I have needed a lot of that lately. I am moving on and getting better all the time, thanks to our Heavenly Father! I pray we can all say that at the start of 2008!

God bless all of you. This is first time I have written. I am usually a lurker, but love to read all of your comments. You are a great bunch of siestas!

I am looking forward to God's work in our family this year. My husband lost his job in August and we have been without much income since.. but God has been miraculously faithful! We weren't tithing regularly before the job loss because we thought we "couldn't afford it". The day of the job loss, we vowed that we would cheerfully tithe, after all.. it's God's money, anyway. Our life has been like the "feeding of the five thousand". How God does it, I don't know! But HE does!!! A little off subject, but all of that is to say that I am looking forward to serving Him and waiting expectantly on Him in 2008. LOVE YOU!!

I love those words and felt they were meant for my ears this morning. I am so excited about 2008!! I know the number 7 is completion and the number 8 is a new beginning. It reminds me of the new beginning God had with Noah in Genesis Chapter 8.
I spent New Year's Eve in the hospital after having undergone lap-band surgery that morning.
I had prayed about it for months and researched it just as long. I finally made the decision and couldn't have it done fast enough.
I am not proud that I let my temple get so out of shape. I asked the Lord to forgive me. I know He has forgiven me. I am so thankful that God imparted wisdom and knowledge to doctors to help ones like me. Now I have new doors of ministry open for me this year as I can encourage others who feel defeated by their weight. I am walking each day with my Savior to a healthier, happier me! I know the Lord will be able to use me in a mightier way once I shed some of this fat. The only thing that truly sustained me was I already knew how much He loves me just the way I am. I am the apple of His eye! (Thanks, Beth, for instilling that into me.)

At least it will be one new year's resolution that I can keep!!!!
HALLELUJAH!!!

God's richest blessings upon each of you, my dear Siestas!!!
I think now I will feel good enough to see you in San Antonio!!!

Hi Beth,

I had a question/comment on the phrase: "To see Christ revealed then know what to do with that revelation is the highest mortal experience."

As the new year turns over, I am thankful that we are leaving 2007 behind. It has been a year of tremendous suffering and loss including an autism diagnosis for one of our children. We did find that God met us during the year; we have learned all about suffering and his suffering. The question is - How do you know what to do with the revelation?

Happy New Year to you, Beth and to all our siestas out there!
I loved how you said you woke up this morning with Keith and the dog snoring.
We are dog-sitting for a friend this week and this little tea cip Yorkie puppy is a mess! She needed out at 3:00 a.m. and was licking all over both of us at about 4:00 a.m.!
God is so good and He has blessed me and my family so much. I have been in the process of learning to trust Him in everything and even though it's not been easy, the more often I give "it" to Him, the sooner and sweeter it all seems to work out. In June of '06 you were in OKC and that very day my husband found out that the company he worked for had been sold. That weekend you spoke on trusting God. He continued to work in that almost empty large building for over a year....with several changes and not knowing what would happen in the end. Several of his co-workers found other jobs and he hung in there, helping maintain the building. This past Aug. ('07) he was hired by the new company and just a couple of weeks ago got his (awesome) evaluation with a raise, stock and a bonus he'll receive two times a year. GOD IS SO GOOD!
This morning I went to the dr. for a test for my heart that I get done every couple of years. I had been to an initial visit 2 weeks ago.....right after I got home today I had something in the mail from our ins. asking if this was a pre-existing condition? Right at first, I had a fear come over me about the cost of this and started to fret. Immediately, God reminded me...."Child....won't you trust Me on this too? You've seen Me do awesome things in your life!" So, by faith, I am believing that even though, yes, this is a pre-existing condition, He will work out the financial part of this dr. bill.
Thank you Beth & staff of Living Proof (and your family). May 2008 bring all you and my siestas blessings upon blessings. I'm so looking forward to San Antonio in Aug.! My 25 yr. old daughter and I will be there!
Love,
Valerie

Happy New Year!! Thanks for the words! I always enjoy your blog. I have to admit that I was somewhat dreading going back to work and getting back in my routine--but then I remembered that it means Tues night Bible Study with Beth--and that made me ready to return to "real life!" :) Thanks for all you do to bless us. God has blessed you, and you have passed that blessing right along!!

Beth,

Thank you for those precious words. This last year has been one with great pain but also great gain. God showed Himself so faithful and sufficient. I know He has spoken to me about the areas we will be working on this year too. You are so right. Where else can we find such freedom from guilt. Thank you for your willingness to be so transparent!
Happy New Year!

How wonderful!! I needed that calling to repentance and was there this morning. oh how sweet and freeing! It is a wonder that so many miss the real freedom in order to be free from "traditional" religion. I wanted to say also how glad I am that someone else has a dog who prefers under the covers!!!!! My bassett taps me with her nose in the middle of the night to be let under the covers to sleep !!! Have a blessed new year!

Happy New Year Beth! Thank you so much for taking precious time out of your day to encourage us. I am truly blessed by each and every Siesta! This blog is so wonderful.
I too am exited to start a new prayer journal! Here in Nebraska it is way-way to cold to meet with Jesus outside like you do often. But a little fire, comfy chair and fresh coffee will be just fine.

Thanks again for all you do!

I for one am so excited about this year. Last year was one of big changes for us as we adopted the sweetest little girl ever. This year we will still be adjusting to parenthood, I have a career change, my husbands schedule is changing and we will have more time as a family. God is moving us from times of frustration and confusion to finally feeling like a true family that plays, ministers and lives and loves together. I can't wait to see what all God has in store this year!!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us this New Year. The idea of new beginnings is very cool, after all God could've made the way time worked totally different, and yet, as you said, He gives us many new opportunities to begin.

This year my New Year's resolution is to exercise daily. I weigh 261 which is pretty heavy, and yet I know the Lord will help me to become more disciplined as the year goes on.

All that to say that I appreciate knowing you are there and I will continue to read your blog and pray for you.

I am such a goof ball!! When I read "we are only 18 inches away..." Well I thought you were talking about the planner.

I thought, my lands that is a big planner!!! 18 inches, Whew wee that Beth has some writin' to do! Man I want one of those, because I have a bunch of writing to do as well.

On a more serious note. I am so saddened by the person who felt that being a Christian meant feeling guilty. One word. Grace. Only because of grace and only because of his AMAZING GRACE have I been set free.

Thanks Beth. I needed some clarity. I tried to have normal expectations for my holiday season with family. My boys had a wonderful Christmas, which is very important to me- but I left our families feeling abused, hurt, mocked, and disappointed. I have told the Lord how I've been feeling- I trust him to help me sort some things out. If I was who I used to be I would have spent at least one day in bed feeling sorry for myself or taken it out on my husband. Instead I talked to my husband about a few things, and talked to the Lord about most things- I spoke his Word over me- that I'm not angry, I'm not offended, I will not harbor malice, but will trust he has revealed some things to me to free myself from them. I will keep my eyes and heart focused on him. I must say I've experienced a kind of loneliness when it comes to my earthly family and friends- but miraculously I've found joy in being a wife and mother. I also must say I feel like a Christian pioneer of sorts trying to be the first generation in my family to love the Lord and worship him every day- not just Sundays and to know Jesus is someone that loves me and that is real and wants the best for me- not a Jesus who is like the great OZ waiting to punish me when I mess up. I do mess up- which is why I need Him and love Him. The holiday family mental games left me longing for my heavenly home. Just sharing. Sorry if I bored anyone to tears. I love you Beth. Thanks for being the Wise Woman in my life.

Happy New Year!

I am so excited about this new year. Also, much inspired by your blog.
I didn't write any resolutions this year...nor goals...nothing, but I know what I want out of this year and I know I have to be diligent and disciplined to attain those things. I suppose I can write that down. :) Anyway, I am just super excited to see the Lord move in the lives of people, and I've seen such an ernest expectation in just about everyone I have talked to. woo hoo Bring it on!

You have been such an awesome source of encouragement. I pray this new year brings much fulfillment in everything you do.

Yes, Lord, establish the work
Of our hands
Let them toil for your purpose
May they carry out your plans

You're faithfulness is a solid rock
On which all can depend
You have proven yourself true
And you will prove yourself again

Righteousness goes before you
Glory is your rearguard
You surround us with your presence
And keep us safe from all harm

You are the Good Shepherd
One who cares for His sheep
You lead us beside the still waters
You hold us still so we can sleep

You quiet the ones that fret
You know us each by Name
You save us in our troubles
And deliver us from all shame

You are the One to be glorified
There is no other good thing
By your hand we are satisfied
So to you our praises ring

Sweet Beth,

Looks like we may be doing the same devotional (Streams?). And, oddly enough, I also sat alone during this Sunday's services, too. (Little ones were at home sick. Husband and I did the switch-a-roo with the morning services.)

This weekend I spent every available moment that I could to sneak away and catch up my spiritual journal. I’m not a journal-er, so it doesn’t come naturally. I had 10 months worth of post-it notes on lessons God revealed to me or spiritual highs and lows of the year to enter into the journal. 117 new pages later, my hand ached and so did my heart. Overwhelmed with all that God had done in 2007.

2008 will be another amazing year for LPM and for you personally (Phil 1:6). You have given me so much and I have nothing to offer you except my poor prayers. Thank you for your transparency. (Now, I too need to make my list of things for divine transformation.)

P.S. Prayers for the women's ministry and a new evangelism ministry are needed.

Love in Christ…a fellow sojourner fighting the good fight in Jacksonville, FL,
Susan

A Blessed Happy New Year to you Beth! My husband gave me one of your CD sets for Christmas. It was you speaking from Psalms at an LPL in Portland OR four years ago. I know because you said you would be celebrating your 25th anniversary in a few weeks. Something you said really hit me..."You can't be a worrier and a warrior at the same time". My husband bought this before he was fired from his job on the Friday before Christmas. I've been praying two things-a job for him and me to leave it to God and not be anxious. I so need to hear this message.

I want my life to mean something for Christ. I have prayed that I would please Him and honor Him by all that I do. I'm going to pray every morning this year that I would be delighted by Him, as you suggested. I'm just crazy for Jesus and I am so looking forward to this year with Him.

I love you Beth.

I know one thing He will do for you this year, Beth, and it's Isaiah 42:5-7--your beautiful God who created the heavens in Genesis 1, who spread out the earth, who gives breath to every blogger. He says in these verses I have called you. I hold your hand. I will keep you and make you a light to open eyes that are blind, to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness this very night behind computers, in Starbucks, in your neighborhood, in your family. Isaiah 43:19 - I am doing a new thing for you. What a good God we have. Great post.

Today when I was making up my bed, I found myself thinking about you getting up before Keith and making the fire, the coffee and doing your QT.I have been a Christian now for almost 10 years. I remember like it was yesterday being a baby Christian and so excited about getting up before the household to do my study, which was 5am.As the years wore on and life happened, there were times it was hard to choose whether I wanted that extra hour of sleep or the time with God. During that time in my life, I had a dear friend who faithfully got up at 4:30am for her QT.I have to tell you that knowing she was up before me, already in her chair with her cup of coffee and the Word was all I needed to get me up and going.I did not want to miss out on what I knew she was already getting. You reminded me that no matter how early I get up to worship, there is someone else who is already up.

Thank you for all you do for us!A happy new year to you too!

I had a very strange few weeks at the end of the year and our Christian bookstore FINALLY got "Stepping Up" in, and I was able to start this past week, and the first video when you asked if anyone was in exile, it nearly blew me away because I was, but had no idea why He had taken me there until I watched that video. He was preparing me for a pilgrimage in His perfect timing, and He knew exactly when He wanted me to get ahold of that Bible study. We serve an awesome God! Thank you for being obedient to His calling and for being so special to all of us Siestas out here! I pray for a Blessed New Year for you and your family and all of LPM!!

I then skimmed around the website and found singer Travis's website and loved the fact that you can hear his music playing while looking...I played it loud and just basked in Gods presence...Another thing I love is that you have talked about laughing with God and I desire that, well today I heard Him giggle, in my ear!! I was just waking up and I was wanting to have my time with the Lord and the alarm had gone off, then I, struggling with my flesh and half asleep said something I thought was very serious to the Lord and that is when I heard the giggle, then I realized what I had said and I was just so- asleep I sounded like a goof, of course that woke me up! And wow did He have something to say to me this morning-- what a joy!

Dear Beth,

I couldn't help but think that one of the things that would be on my list would be that I would no longer be like your Sunny Dog -- someone that God has to come over every morning and shake me to get me to jump to my post! While Sunny's hearing has dulled over the years from just the passage of time and the wearing down of a physical body, our ears can certainly do the same thing from just lack of listening. I want to be the one who jumps up every morning and says, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening!"

Thanks for just being a servant leader, sojourner (as you remind us so often) that is transparent enough to admit to having "a list."

I'm looking forward to 2008 (366 days in all -- love an extra day, don't you?) and all that He has to teach us.

Praying Ephesians 1 over you and over me this new year, sweet sister!!

Blessings,
Dori

Thank you, Beth, for this post. You bring so much into perspective for me. I had one of those days that I was grateful to see end yesterday. I praise God and thank Him for giving you such wisdom and insight and a medium for you to express it to us just when we need it. If you only knew how letting me see how you have quiet time helps me. I can get under a load of condemnation for even making a cup of tea before my quiet time because it may mean I didn't put God first. Legalism--I so want to be free of it and am trying really hard. Perfectionism and legalism die hard, don't they?

Beth,

You will never ever this side of heaven know how thankful I am for these words: "God is already looking at our future as if it's past. He has it planned to a "t". Not one ounce of pain will be purposeless and not one inch of progress has to be joyless. "

and then these:
"As my devotional reading pointed out this morning, God has Promised Land He wants each of us to possess this year. It is "a land the Lord your God looks after. He is constantly attentive to it from the beginning to the end of the year." (Deut. 11:12)"

It's my figuring that He's up to some mighty fine landscaping for me right about now, and I can't wait to see it!! Just tryin to learn my lessons so I can get there!!

Thanks again~
You are loved!!

I so loved your blog regarding your Anniversary. I have been married 22 years and have weathered many storms also. It is also by the Grace of God that our marriage is as strong as it is. I know that the Lord works miracles and our marriage is still standing only because of our relationship with Christ!! I know as you have stated that it is a matter of staying through the thick and thin of it every day and sometimes it seems so hard but in the end the reward is great. God has so richly blessed me!!! I will pray that for the coming year our Siesta's experiencing marital difficulties will build stronger marriages through the Word and know that God will reward them for their faithfulness.
I wish for all our Siesta's out there a blessed New Year and ask that we all let HIS light shine so that others may come to know Christ's Love.

Beth, You have brought great joy to my life as a siesta. I love your early morning insights and talks with God. Not long ago I decided I would try the "early morning thing" with God instead of the late night times I usually spend with Him. Know what He told me? He don't like me much in the morning. *smile* Says my husband of nearly 20 years is right: that I'm not very pleasant, I wake up poorly, and that I need a new early morning attitude. So there's the first thing on my 2008 list and I have a feeling He's gonna hold me accountable somehow. The good news is, He has told me to put on a second pot of coffee if need be and don't be so concerned about all the caffeine warnings. Praise God for all them coffee beans He raises up! Happy New Year to you and your loved ones, Beth. I'm just now getting some time to read this so I'm a bit late with my sentiments for the new year but they're sincere none the less. And you mentioned "the work of our hands", yes? I have a feeling you refer to Psalm 90:17 which reads: "And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish Thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish Thou it." Had to quote that in the KJV, Beth. There's beauty in that verse in the KJV. And amen...I pray our LORD will establish and confirm the work of our hands for His glory this new year. And I think I'll begin this morning's work by pouring another cup of that coffee.

There were so many lines in this entry that grabbed my heart, but these wouldn't let go. 2007 was a year of such pain for my family and me and yet, such purpose. As we continue to wade through the grief over losing our baby girl last summer (as I've mentioned many times before) we thank God for every last inch of progress and when we smile, it is because of the JOY in our hearts. Happiness is far too fickle. It is joy we need. I hang on your every word today, as I believe these words were from God's lips to my heart (sent via your fingertips - how cool is that?) for 2008. I do pray He establishes the work of my hands this year, as many opportunities are waiting just on the horizon and I am not yet sure how the Lord will use the gifts He has bestowed on me. This is a new year. And just as a hard day needs to end, so did that hard year. Rather than dwelling on the truth that 2007 is the only year my sweet Miller Grace will share with me here in this world, I'm thankful for all it held and I'm looking toward Heaven and all our Creator has in store for 2008. Thank you for lifting my chin one more time.

Happy New Year to everyone! I have no idea what I want to change this year, but I'm sure God will show me in time. Last year my life changed so much it's hard to imagine changing anything else. Many people around here have just said they're just glad 2007 is over. They'd like to forget it ever happened. It just wasn't a good year for many including my pastor's family. I really hope he has a better year. I couldn't help thinking that the worst thing in my life is going to be hard to forget since I went into 2008 and my grandma's still not here. Anyway, please pray especially for my pastor and his family. He and his wife have had a lot of health issues. Their names are Dan and Julie.

mama beth, the Lord was so sweet to give me the most beautiful new years last january 1st (2007) with you and thousands of others at Passion '07 in Atlanta. i grew up in a ministers home, and was baptized when i was 11, but as i got older i slowly began to realized that i had no idea what walking down that aisle had actually meant. until jan 1, '07. that night after mr. giglio gave his sermon, i met God face to face for the first time. i finally realized that believing IN God (which i had done my whole life) and BELIEVING God (which i'd never done) are two completely different things. that night He introduced me to the POVERTY of my spirit, the BEAUTY of His, and gave me the most awesome new birthday ever...january 1st! the first day of a new year, and my first day KNOWING beyond a shadow of a doubt that i was HIS.

i too cracked open a new journal this new year, along with a new devotional book...some study on Daniel by some girl with awesome hair and the cutest shoes around...you might know her? ;) thanks for allowing God to use you in my journey to learning how to have a heart like His...love you sweet friend...

Blessings for 2008...When I read about your journaling, my mind went to my granddaughters (I have 3 of them) My journaling for the past 6 yrs has enlightened me and refreshed me as I have read over them many times. I see where I have come from and how much farther I need to go. I also have dedicated over these 6 yrs each journal to each of my 3 granddaughters. I want them to see what God has and will do in my life. One day when they are 27 or 39 or 46 they can read my heart! What better present can I give to them.
I also just celebrated our 41st anniversary and with no $, I took 2 wks and wrote a LIVE LETTER to my husband. (Yes, it was hard to condense 31 yrs into 3 pages but I did it) Ladies your husbands will absolutely love it. I bragged on him, I told him what I most admired about him before we ever started dating, and I thanked him for being the father and leader of our household. I had really thought 30 yrs was a biggie, but now I am more convinced than ever that each year is a biggie!
I am thankful for 2007 and am joyful for 2008! May you all have joy! Debi O Leesburg, GA

Beth,
I like your idea of choosing some things that you would like changed in your life and writing them down now so you can refer to that list throughout the year. I'm going to do that too. Thanks for the encouragement. It is nice to trust God to work in us rather than us trying to change ourselves. We all know how unsuccessful that can be.

So Happy New Year to you and yours and LPM. I am so thankful for all of you. You enrich my life. And this blog is an icing on the cake.

Beth:

Thank you for this post It is a great reminder of new starts and who we are and what we have in Christ.

Not only do I have a list of character things needing to be worked on, but also took the opportunity to do some physical cleaning up and organizing. Simplify seems to be the mode of the week.

Happy New Year to you all.

My fiance and I had a hurtful fight today about each others pasts. We have both given our lives to Christ, but sometimes it hurts when things from the past surface. Needless to say, we both came across the entry on a new year as well as the marriage entry immediately before. It gave me chills knowing that I hadn't checked this blog in a couple of days and God had me check it again today, right now. Thank you for your encouraging words! And thank you father for fresh starts and pre-marital counseling :)

Just back from a wonderful family skiing holiday and read your post. Loved it! This thought of new beginnings is a blessed one. A song by our friend Carolyn Arends , "New Years Day" captures this theme beautifully. "Everyday is New Year's Day" she sings!! Amen to that!! (Carolyn is a Christian recording artist and author from the Vancouver, B.C. area....she writes some amazing lyrics. Has anybody heard "Seize the Day"?). Thankfully His mercies are new every morning...if only I could extend the same mercy to others when needed! I'm so looking foreward to '08 and a year of walking with the Lord together with family and friends. Bless you all at LPM. You are an amazing group of women!! Can't wait to see you again in Vancouver.

I had to stop mid-sentence and switch to Amazon to buy the prayer journal by Debbie Williams. It's on its sweet little way. I didn't think you'd mind, Beth, if I skipped out to do a little shopping right in the middle of your blog. You'd understand, right? Been there...possibly?

Every word of this post was speaking to me, and delivering me from a place of fear to one of hope. Your closing line was precious, and I'm going to write it in the first page of my new prayer journal: "May He establish the work of your hands for you."

Oh, I think He has something in mind this year, and it's going to be good. I'm not sure how to get there from here, but I'll stick close so He can show me.

Happy New Year, Beth and Siestas.

Happy New Year and prayers for you and yours! I read your comment about the Promised Land. As always, this was confirmation for me from the Holy Spirit. I mailed to you the first of the week a package explaining what God has been doing in the life of me and my Grandmother. Through my Grandmother's book, Pilgrimage to the Promised Land - An Experience in Spiritual Journaling, God led me to my Promised Land. You have a great influence in the book I am writing which was inspired by my 100 year old grandmother. Through your blog of 1/1/08 God confirmed that I indeed am standing at the border of my Promised Land. Hope you enjoy the reading I mailed - it has the Beth Moore flavors all through it! In Christ, Brenda

Prayers to you and yours! God stays relative and active in all ages! Through your 1/1 blog, in talking about our Promised Land the Holy Spirit confirmed what my Father had already led me to. Thanks to the inspiration of my 100year grandmother whose book I just finished having published I have been brought to my border of the Promised Land. Her book is called Pilgrimage to the Promised Land - An Experience In Spiritual Journaling which has propelled me to write my own book regarding the experience of finishing her book after God promised it to her over 50 years ago. The book I am writing has "flavors" of Beth Moore splashed all over the place! Thanks for all of your inspiration and to God give the glory! In Christ, Brenda
