Haircut

I took Jackson to get his hair cut on Tuesday. Twice. The first time was a disaster. A couple of minutes into the cut, I found out the hairdresser had never cut such a young child's hair before. And my young child wouldn't be still, no matter how tasty Mommy's Dr. Pepper and soft pretzel sticks were. He ended up with half of a duck tail in the back. Remember those from the 80s? When we got home and I fully surveyed the damage, I made a second appointment with a lady in our neighborhood. She was a pro. He looks as cute as he should now. But so grown up!

Oh, he does look cute!! And all grown up! Obviously you've had quite the day! And I do remember those hair cuts. Being a child of the 80's a lot of the boys in my class had those...unfortunately I think a few still do!

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Nothing like a haircut to make our "babies" look like grown up toddlers! My dds first hair cut was a disaster also. I never took her in after that. Both of my dds have had cute little bobs cut by their mommy ever since. :)

He's so cute! He's precious Amanda. :)

those beautiful eyes of his are sure to melt many a heart through the years. I'm sure there are already a few hearts that are already 'mush'! (a certain Grandmother's perhaps??) It is amazing what a difference a haircut can make in changing them from a baby to a 'big boy'. I remember those days so well and they were some time ago (my baby is 22) Enjoy every single moment! They grow up way too fast!! Thank you for sharing your sweet angel with us.

Oh, I remember those days all too well! First haircut, first lost tooth, first time using the big-boy potty, all the "first's". Isn't it amazing how excited we get over the "first's" of life?
Hold on to him my friend...the "first's" seem to last but a moment. Then you look up and you have teenager wanting to call his "first" girl....drive for the first time...Then you think, "didn't you just lose your tooth and get your first big-boy haircut?" Time....how it truely does fly!

Amanda, he is soooooo adorable! My little man is now 11 years old, and looks me in the eyes, but those young years are irreplaceable! Love the pics and the memories they spark!

Love you too! Jesus has been so awesome to me to give me a family here on the blog, and so many who cherish HIM. I have searched for along time...and of course about the time I told the Lord there is no one real in this, and I am so lonely in my walk...HE reminded me that I always have HIM. And then HE gave me the "Blog Siestas". Thank you for being faithful to the Lord, and for providing this place for all of us. I am saying a special prayer for you tonight...

Love on that little man as much as you can...boys tend to not want it so much after they go to school.

Thanks for sharing, we never get tired of seeing your pics.

Oh, how I remember when I first wanted to cut my daughter's hair, and how weirdly sad I was when Grandma B made the first cut. We had to do something! Her hair was in her eyes, and she'd pull out barrettes and clips. Two years later, her hair is still soooo cute - short, short bangs, angled sides, stacked back - just darling. She's pretty cute, if I can say so myself. ;)

Hey Amanda, it's me Nicole. I just wanted you to know that your son is beautiful ( I KNOW YOU KNOW THAT ALL READY) enjoy him now as they grow so fast and sometimes life can be short for some of us. The 80 hair do's are great, my son is 12 like I said and he has long hair, he's a skater so he looks like a 70 kind of kid lol :-) plus he wont let me cut it anymore.
Thanks everyone for the comments and prayers.
I wont lie to any of you's, the truth is I have had thot's all week if God is so real then why would he do this to me, as my son needs me and if I shall die then who will he have. THAT SCARES ME THE MOST..just being honest

Oh Amanda!! How special--Jackson's first (and second) haircut. So sorry to hear about the original disaster (cut). Think of it this way, you'll always have a good story to tell about his first "real" haircut!!! (lol) When he's a teen-ager you can pull that one out to tell his girlfriend (or use it as blackmail material). Seriously, he's a cutie. . .looking more grown-up with his new haircut. You are really blessed. Enjoy every minute with your little cutie.

My son was born needing a haircut- the tips were even frosted and nurses would parade in to take a peek at the baby with frosted hair. When he had his first cut at three months, he looked like one of those troll dolls that you roll in your hands to make the hair stick up all over- seriously! Not long ago, this happened at our house... it all began with a spaghetti dinner. That in itself, is an adventure with a 16- month old who loves to eat! My boy LOVES spaghetti, and after he has partaken to his fill, he is promptly dumped into the bathtub. That's when I noticed again how long his hair had gotten and recalled that even though my husband had been home a month, he had still not gotten around to cutting it for me. Since Samuel seemed to be engrossed in the tub toys, I thought I'd grab the scissors and just snip the very back and a little off the top. Had he sat still, this would have ended my story, but alas, no. I began to think back to my expertise on the matter- I'd held him many times since he was three months old and got his first hair cut- and figured, how hard can this really be? So, he was diapered back up and strapped into the high chair with the appropriate snacks. I got out the clippers and away we went. The back went ok, and big sister joined in the fun by grabbing the dust pan and broom and began sweeping up the floor as I worked. I should interject here that one of my regrets in this whole matter was that I did not photograph this scene: supper dishes left out on the table (no time to clean up when the boy is covered in spaghetti), hair all over the baby, duaghter madly sweeping the floor and talking NON-STOP about her thoughts on my undertaking, and me quickly realizing that there is a reason my diploma says "music" and not "hair stylist." Yes, so the front and top did not go so well even though I changed clipper blades (is that what they're called?). So, I quit while I was ahead. Child #1 took this moment to inform me that Ms. Anita cuts hair very well. Yes, doesn't she now?! The baby was bathed again and relieved to go to bed. We cleaned up the evidence, I called Ms. Anita to let her know we'd be in first thing the next morning, and the girl was put to bed. When the husband came home, I asked what time he planned on going to work the next morning and was ever so hoping that Samuel would choose that morning to sleep past 7:30! Any luck? Of course not! Daddy took one look and was brutally honest (or honestly brutal- take your pick) with his observations. Up until this point, I had kept my sense of humor, but I did lose it a touch here- to which my loving husband gave me a hug and said, "You know what I love about you? Deep down, you're a risk taker!" Ah, yes, just the tender words I needed. So I replied that I only wanted to have *sniff* a good picture of the kids! Did I mention we had a professional portrait scheduled several days later with the live baby bunnies? The husband left, we scurried out the door, and as I brought the kids into the shop, Anita said, "What in the world did you do to his hair!?!" The perm that was to begin graciously allowed us to cut in line, and Ms. Anita talked to Samuel the whole time: "It's ok Samuel; Ms. 'Nita will fix it." And she gave me a few instructions as she went, too. I promised I'd never do it again to which I got an "I know you won't (read 'won't' with the southern two syllables for proper effect)!" Samuel was released from under the cape and has been happy ever since and hopefully he won't be in therapy for this someday. That brings us to the moral(s) of the story: (1) DO NOT try this at home; (2) it's really not a good idea to cut hair a few days before a portrait session; (3) patience IS a virture; (4) always have your camera handy; and (5) laughter is good for the soul!

Amanda,

Jackson is an adorable child! Goodness, isn't your family done with the whole being sick thing yet! That just stinks!
as far as the dress you were talking about, I have a shirt like that...and have been asked a million times if I am expecting...
so I understand girl:-)

As far as the haircut thing, I have no kids, but I have a mom who has done my hair since I was a baby. I mean I had my first perm, no joke at 6yrs old!

Couple months ago I got it done by someonelse, because I just didn't want my mom to do it, she just isn't well enough anymore, she'd push herself, but I won't let her.

Anyway, so I got there and I was like, " Ok, the deal is my mom is a hairdresser, and has been for 23yrs, and she will hurt you if you mess my hair up!"

The cut was beautiful, I wanted it like Dixie on All My Children, and the color...Well, I got what I wanted. I needed my blonde streaks done, and well, my hair had the whole early Kelly Clarkson thing going on with the red, so the girl just put the blonde in without thinking...
so hair people out there you know what happened next...it was RED, but actually a beautiful mixture of blonde and red.
Miracles happen lol.
and she got my mom's approval.

Be Blessed:)

First: Nicole, please e-mail me at preciousginny@gmail.com for the Healing Scriptures and Armor of God prayer. Anyone else, too! I will be gone for the weekend, so do not think I have abandoned you. My prayers continue for you. I am trying to create a blog with this information and other words of encouragement for all of my siesta bloggers. Thanks!

Now to the fun stuff: that precious child, Jackson, is too cute for his own good! Good thing he doesn't know that THOUSANDS of women adore him because we are watching him grow up on his mother's and grandmother's blog! He's too little for a big boy haircut...made me sad. I so remember when I took our two children for their first haircuts: oldest child, our daughter, was at least 4, if not older. She had coal black hair when she was born, lost it all, and it took YEARS for it to come back in...very blond! So she was an extremely unhappy camper at the beauty parlor. She did get a haircut though! Second child, our son, wasn't much better, so I decided since the beauty parlor was a disaster, maybe the barber shop would be better. Sent him with his father and granddaddy to the barber shop and he thought it was sssooo fine! Now that he is 33, he likes going to the salon again (I still call them beauty parlors) because his hairdresser massages his head when she washes his hair. No more $5 barber shop haircuts for him!

Many prayers for you, Sweet Beth, as you travel to Cleveland. You have been blessed to bless others...and I know you will return to Houston more blessed than when you left. What a lovely way to end Birthday week. I have been having Birthday WEEK since I was 40. You know...drag it out and celebrate as often as possible. Most of the time I am focused on everyone else and making them happier, so several of my friends and I made up Birthday Week. This year since I am turning the big 60 in November, we've all decided to have Birthday Month! How lovely! I can't wait!

Much love to all of you siestas! You are dear to me!

Who's Paul Newman? It seems not to matter whether Jack's face is black with ink or orange with pretzel--his eyes are luscious.

My sixteen year old plays a song--some of the words,
"Oh do ya gotta a mullet?" Glad you got the "Achy-breaky" boy syndrome dealt with by the second hairdresser! What a blessing do-overs can be.

Nicole, even when you don't understand, you can know God is faithful. You don't know all the answers, but He does and His Word is true. Devour the Scripture and you'll find that He will fill you with a peace that passes understanding.

When my nephew was about 5 I took him to get his haircut. We had a short wait. So I was reading a Dr. Suess book to him. Now I get all animated with my voice. Different characters and emotions. Then he was called to get his haircut. Now he was five acting like he was 25, talking to the hair stylist. Then after his haircut he jumped down and ran over to me. He grabbed the book, turned it back to the page where we had left off and had me start reading again. By this time there were other customers waiting for their turn to get their hair cut. I think they all enjoyed the story.

I put it off as long as I could though...he was one and nearly had a mullet, and that's when I finally had to give in, but I did save nearly all of it in a baggie.

He is a precious boy, especially with the food. :)

Thanks for sharing him with us.

Love
Cynthia in OK

What a cutie pie! He looks like a little man now.

And, what is it with haircuts for kiddos?!?! It took 3 tries to get my 2 yr. old's hair straight (and I was the 3rd try, so you know I was desperate b/c hair cutting is NOT my gift--LOL!).

Thanks for showing us your little handsome man!

Nicole, we are praying for you so much, and sometimes that doesn't sound like much...but my "Daddy" created this place and can fix absolutely anything if it is in our best interest..your sistas are praying and even more for peace for you, and healing. God is good all the time! ALL THE TIME...just say it even if you aren't feeling it...its absolute truth, and the enemy needs to get out of your face. I do have a friend with the same diagnoses of liver cancer, and she has come through the surgery, and she is doing actually very well. She told me that we just need to believe believe believe that GOD is good, and that HE loves us more than life...HE takes care of the rest. Love and prayers going up for you.

When my son was small I always took him to those "classy" mall places to get it cut.... When he was in 1st grade, he wanted a buzz cut. I always ended up fixing the buzz that was done by the so called professionals (come on... how can you mess up a buzz?). So in the end I bought my own "buzzer" and did it myself for about three years!

Amanda,
Your son it so adorable! Love the pictures and stories, keep them coming. By the way, I knew you weren't pregnant because your Mom would've been telling everybody the news before now! It's a cute dress.

Nicole,
(Sorry I couldn't post on your blog)
For many years a was a single parent raising my son and I know your fear! Give it to our Abba Father and He WILL see you through this! My prayers are with you.

Your Sista,
Kathleen

Adorable pictures! Be glad you can get him to sit for someone, my 19-month old still gets VERY rough-looking Mommy-cuts and probably will until he graduates...

And, for the record- I do NOT think you look pregnant, I think you look wonderful and just so you know, I get asked that a lot every time I buy an empire-waist top. People really know how to make a mom feel good, don't they ;-P

THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR BEAUTIFUL SON WITH US. I GOT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO SEND YA'LL SOME PICTURES OF MY KIDS.

PLEASE PRAY FOR CHRIS AND MEGGLES THEY ARE LEAVING FOR CAMP MONDAY AND THIS IS MEG'S FIRST TIME AWAY FROM ME FOR A WEEK SINCE SHE HAS BEEN LITTLE AND SHE IS ELEVEN I PRAY THAT THE LORD SHOWS UP MIGHTY IN THEIR LIVES. WANT TO HEAR SOMETHING FUNNY I WENT BACK TO WORK SIX WEEKS AFTER SHE WAS BORN FOR ONE DAY I WAS NURSING AT THE TIME AND SHE WOULDNT TAKE A BOTTLE SO MY HUSBAND HAD TO CALL ME AT WORK AND I HAD TO QUIT THE SAME NIGHT . IT'S SO FUNNY NOW TO SEE HOW QUICKLY THE YEARS GO BY WITH YOUR CHILDREN CHERISH THE TIME YOU HAVE WITH YOUR LITTLE BOY! I NOW KNOW WHY I HAD BEEN A STAY AT HOME MOMMY FOR THE LAST ELEVEN YEARS.

THIS IS MY LAST SUMMER HOME WITH THEM CAUSE I START SCHOOL IN THE FALL WHEN THEY START SCHOOL. FOR NURSING.

I WOULD NEVER TRADE MY KIDS AND I TRUST JESUS WITH THEM.

Oh my goodness! Who's a big man? I could just eat him! I have two little guys and they always look like little men after they get their hair cut. I have a soft spot in my heart for little boys - they can hardly hold that spirit of adventure inside their body! Sometimes I'm sure they just vibrate, looking for a mud puddle or something to destroy. Its just their nature! I love it! Bless Ya'll!

oh he is so cute, but I feel your pain it is so hard to see them go from baby boy to big boy in one little hair cut. I cried after my little one got his hair cut. Thankfully he still likes to cuddle.

Hi Amanda, you've heard this many, many times in the past 48 hours, but here's one more: Jackson's eyes are amazing! I sometimes look at my kids and think, "Wow. God sure did an incredible job!" Thanks for sharing your life with us. I am truly uplifted by your blog and look forward to your updates.

Also, my sister told me about Nicole yesterday. She is in our prayers.

Just letting you know that even though my day to pray is Thursday, I've also been praying for you today too, Beth, that God would do with you what He wants done in Ohio tonight. I'm sure you do feel like you're in a whirlwind. But what fruit you will have produced when this life is over...Amanda, thank you for so faithfully updating us and letting us all feel like close friends.

i wanted to ask all you ladies to pray for a family in our community.(Greer South Carolina) A dad an his 3 year old son were on the lake when they had a terrible accident. Not sure of all the details but the childs life vest was hung on the boat and tragically went down with it. For the past two weeks, divers from Texas, Colorado and our own guys have been searching for this child and today around noon they found him, 112 feet under water, still in his life vest. His name is Joshua. Please pray for this family, they have older children and the mother is pregnant. The Dad is doing fine now but both he and the mother are compltely devastated.Thank you ladies in advance for your prayers.

What a beautiful little boy... or, with the new "do" should I say "big boy". It's amazing how much older they always look with just a "little off the ears". Thank you so much for sharing your pictures. Melissa M from N.C.

Wow. I never paid money for a haircut for my son when he was that little. I just shaved his head. My girls I did. I wouldn't touch their hair but not my son. But that's cool that he got a real haircut. I don't remember how old Jeremiah was before I finally took him to someone else to get him a real haircut. My kids are at their gramma's house today so I'm getting a break. I have 3 of them and they've been driving me crazy.

Love in Christ,
Shellie
