A Word from Camp Bigs
The summer session of Camp Bigs (the official name of Camp Granny) 2007 is off to a great start. Just a few of our camp activities are as follows: Hide and seek with lots of squealing when we find each other, chase around the kitchen and the den, swimming in the baby pool (or the dog water depending on whether or not the Camp Director remembers to pick it up quickly enough), singing songs (my latest was a rousing rendition of "That Jackson Has Some Dirty Pants" to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round"). Camp Counselor Melissa put in a full day with us yesterday and we expect her sometime soon today. Camp Cook Keith is sure to do a great job as soon as he returns from his fishing trip tonight. He dropped by the Kroger and got a kitchen full of groceries on the way home from his golf tournament last night.
We only heard from Camper's mother five times from the airport. They've done much better since they reached the resort. Apparently a lot of parents had their little campers with them at the airport inadvertently causing some temporary emotional flair ups.
Some have asked about how much it costs to go to Camp Bigs. This is how Camp Bigs is paid:
1. In as many slobbery kisses as the executive director can talk out of her camper.
2. In cackling laughter because the camper thinks his grandparents are so funny.
3. In happy mornings because the executive director thinks nothing on earth is cuter than a toddler in his jammies.
4. In oodles of cuddles when the camper accidentally falls asleep in the executive director's arms with his blanket.
Yep. The first annual session of Camp Bigs is off to a tremendous start. The executive director is going to try to keep you posted if her camper will let her. They are busy bees but they will hopefully occasionally come in for a landing.
PS. I have never moderated comments before but I'm going to try as often as I can this week. Camper's mom left me written instructions and Camp Counselor Melissa is going to help me on break time. I was very amused by the addendum to Amanda's instructions: "Mom, don't post critical or ugly comments. That's not what we're doing on this blog." Critical or ugly comments from my very own Siestas???? Surely NOT! Those could only come from Siesta posers! Real Siestas encourage one another and laugh and cry together - even when they don't see eye to eye - because they know all the while that the other is very imperfect and weak in her natural self but that she gets beaten up a plenty by this world. This blogspot is a great spot for taking a Siesta from the ways of this mean world and finding a little happy shelter in the storm. Thank you for being that for me so many times. You have made me laugh and think and smile and tear up over and over again. I'm absolutely crazy about you. Well, Camper got up a tad early this morning and may need a little time in his bunk. Oh, man. I am so in love with the little dude I can hardly stand it.

This is Hallie and Tessa. We got Tessa (the dog not the child) after we lost our baby boy in January...talk about God giving some healing. Anyway..I had to tell you last night Hallie was laying at the top of the stairs and her daddy came out of the bedroom and said 'baby what are you doing?' and she looked at him with all sincerity and said 'I'm laying down for the joy of the Lord!'. I can NOT get enough of this child. She is awesome. Just wanted to share that with you. God love you Beth! Someday in glory I can't wait to sit and tell you the impact your studies have had on our life.

I have a two and three year old camper I'd like to enroll. They are the snuggliest, huggiest, kissiest boys you'd ever meet, so I'm sure they could pay their tuition. (The 3 year old is in the habit of telling me "Don't be angry wif me, Mama--Jesus and Mama love you"--he apparently realizes at this tender age that all his toddler sins are covered by His Love)

Did you get to stay for the whole Women of Faith Conference? It was an such an incredible conference. We really enjoyed your message Friday. I never really "get a word" from God at conferences--it is more like a "reaffirming word" about something He has already been prodding me about. Then He beats me over the head with it (in a good way, mind you). Anyway...thank you for "the word" about using "the word" for the power that God has intended it for. :-)
Beth, I love reading about the loves of your life. You so totally rock! I don't have a Mom like you, but seeing who you are makes me want to be that for my kids! Your selfless service to your family is evident and I understand it comes out of the overflow of who God is in you. MORE LORD! Thank you for living your life out loud! I'm proud of you for learning how to add the comments. Beth, the last part of your "P.S." made me cry. It's true. We do need each other for encouragement and love. You're right...there's plenty of discouragement out in the world.
Sounds like you guys are having a blast. Oh, I can't wait to be a granny! I've been praying for Amanda & Curt too, that they will really enjoy themselves and relax.
On a different note, since you are such a dog lover and have a story or two about your dogs, please pray for my little dog "Molly". She will soon be 16 and is so skinny and frail. She's having some kidney problems. I took her to the vet today and we talked about what it will be like when/if we decide to put her to sleep. She's so sweet and I could never stand to see her suffer. I was so emotional I couldn't even talk to my husband on the phone afterward. I'm praying that she'll just die peacefully one of these days and we'll not have to make that decision.

You remind me so much of my mother with my four. She has been crazy about them since the first one was born 10 years ago. She loves them as a grandmother should. All four of them are with my parents now as my husband and I take a few days in the City by the Bay. I know the Lord has blessed my children through the time they have spent with all four grandparents. My mother would argue that she has received the greater blessing. Psalm 127:3-5. As you taught us "siestas" the power of words this past Friday in Ft. Lauderdale (loved those red shoes!), "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." Hebrews 10:24-25. YOU, dearest Beth are a HUGE blessing to the Body of Christ! We are just as crazy about you!

Beth, I wanted to say I started Breaking Free this week. I finished this morning with "The Reign of Christ" and I could not stop crying & singing for at least an hour. My heart was just stuck on "As long as the sun comes up in the morning, God will keep offering to deliever His children" I just kept singing a song entitled "Sheer Beaty" Some of the lyrics to the chorus say, "You are sheer beaty, unchanging wonder,scandalous mercy, incomparable grace" Yes HE is!! Thank you for being obediant to the Lord Beth. He uses you mightily and your siestas are blessed for it.

I fell asleep last night with a big disappoint freshly received and woke this morning quite unhappy with God. I know the recovery process and spent the morning outside with Him, listening to praise music and reading many Psalms aloud to Him. When I got to work, I immediately went to the LPM blog hoping for some uplifting. I got it! As a mother of 4 whose third child and only daughter is leaving for college in a couple of months, the emptying of my nest is sometimes excrutiating. Thank you for sharing the joys of grandmotherdom with me. It brings great hope for a future full of children once again.
I've been praying for both Amanda and Curt, as well as the Camp Director and her staff. Will you please ask God to favor me as he has you. I'm not talking about fame, but the "much fruit" and the way that your whole family is loved by so many. I can't imagine what a blessing that is. Not to say that I'm not blessed. I am. But, WOW to be favored by God.!
Anyway, have a great week at camp. Keep notes, you may be writing a book for grandparents one day!

I could just visualize all that you just wrote! Amanda and Curtis have come to mind alot over the past few days and I have been praying for beautiful weather, that they will be able to relax and enjoy each other!! I know "Camp Bigs" is going just fine and there will be so much fun had by lil' camper Jackson and Camp Director Granny and Camp Cook Pappaw and I am sure Camp Counselor Melissa will spoil her nephew as much as Jackson's grandparents do! Ahhhh man...I want to be camp counselor! Soon...very soon...my niece will be having a little one in August. I can't wait!!! Already trying to figure out how to take her out on the motorcycle. :D I suppose I could wait until the little one grows into a helmet...that's it...I can fit her into one of my spare helmets! I really won't, but it sure is fun thinking about it. Hopefully my niece won't see this blog!

Well, Ms. Executive Director, that is about the most darling thing I have read in a long time. I so wish we had grandparents close by so we could send our sweet one off for some camp time, too!
(And I am sure you know by now that Amanda let slip that Saturday is your birthday. It's my birthday, too! I finally get to roll over the big 3-0, a day I have long looked forward to and which will be much celebrated. Happy early birthday, June Baby!)

JOB 1 done well! You are off to a super natural week with enthusiasm,love and a well stocked canteen. What more does a camper tike need? Your little guy needs tons of delicious yummy packed ganny/grandad kisses and some bigs hugs from camp counselor "Miss M". Don't forget when outdoors to apply bug spritzer,sun screen, and large brimmed hat for added cuteness.
Although we all know he needs not! What a great day in the Lord we have to be in the company of such a bold and generous love of our Holy God. Now, lets all get to the camp fire tonight and sing a round of DO LORD!

Hey Sista Beth want four more kids to add to the one ya got ,mine are home for the Summer looking for Vacation bible schools to put kids in. Atleast on Wednesday's my 14 year old goes to the teen group. I thank God for when school opens again(lol) August 13, Praise the Lord come quickly! Just praying for no Hurricanes this year I start my prereqs for Nursing School. My six year old had already gotten His head stuck in the bottom of the pull out recliner had to dial 911 already this summer. We'll have a blessed day and get and give lots of kisses.
Oh we bought my nine year old a baby beagle she is a girl Her name is Honey forgot how bad they bite my hands are chewed up and nothing on the ground level is safe. My three poodles are rebelling bad and been letting me know they are not happy with the newest bundle of joy!
My 14 year old start High School I can't believe it. My 11 she starts middle school and my nine year old starts 4 grade and my baby has to redo kindergarden he was too inmature last year!
Will pray for your children that they are safe. keep me and my kids in your prayers also.

God bless Camp Bigs! I was a solo siesta in Ft.Lauderdale and desperate for a word. From the moment I saw those red shoes, I knew my God would deliver! Bold shoes for a bold warrior! Thank you Beth for all the "slipper" moments we don't see--that make it possible for God to anoint your words and feet. Those are some serpent stomping shoes! Glory to God.

when they get tickled. I love being in public and hearing a child laugh from the bottom of their little toes.
Amanda & Curt will probably call each time they hear a little one near them! However, they know that Jackson couldn't receive better care than he is right now! He's a very fortunate little man to be in a family with so much love and faith!

Oh, you give me hope that this missin'-of-the-babies will be rewarded some day with grandbabies. Well, not TOO soon. But not TOO late either. "I just want somebaby to love."
Now get back to work! Campers need their snacks.
Isn't it a true blessing to be a grandmother!!! I now have 5...our only granddaughter is 12....and Oh! is she spoiled!! She loves it! I remember when my daughter lived in Maryland, our little Hanaa called PawPaw and Grandmommie and told us she would like a new pair of skates. And what did we do? We went and bought her skates and mailed them to Maryland!! Of course!!
But something you said, Beth in this blog that is so right on time for me....had an incident last night at VBS and had to call a Siesta this morning to apologize for my "argumentive state" last evening.....once again, it truly amazes me as to how the Holy Spirit puts people in our paths (yes, this blog!) to help us realize that we are not perfect and we are weak...but Hey!! You know, I laid in bed last night...couldn't sleep. So I thought, I wonder what I could give Beth for her birthday to tell her how much I love her and how very special she is to my family? I thought of a big spray of wonderful smelling flowers or a funny card that'd make your sides hurt...then I decided what to do. So this year, sweet Beth, our family is giving in your honor an extra gift to the mission field, a hilarious gift. I think that the best gift that I could give you would be to give to them. Happy Birthday dearest One! You are precious to me and to my family. The kids even like to come and listen to you...they like your voice. Have a wonderful birthday! I love what you said about true siestas only encourage and love since we get beat up enough in this world. It's good to remember that...
When I was little, my sister and I always stayed at our grandparents for a week in the summer. it was at this time every year my grandparents who were in their sixties turned into children again. We squirted one another with water guns, we ran through the water hose (TN summers are hooootttt), we ate watermelon until it came out our ears, and we caught ligntning bugs until 10 o'clock every night. There was nothing we were not allowed to do (well, within reason). We went fishing and dug the worms ourselves. We laid (is that the proper use of that word?) on lounge chairs and watched the stars while Grandaddy told us things he and his brothers used to do when they were little. My sister and I remember those days as some of the best in our lives. Little Jackson will always remember his time at "Camp Bigs" and so will the "Camp Directors". What a wonderful life God has given us here on earth! We deserve death and hell, but He gave us things like "Camp Bigs" and the promise of Heaven. Who could ask for anything more?

Oh, I am so glad that you and your camper are having such a good time. I can't wait to hear more! My very own Camp Nana will be open in a few weeks to welcome our 22 month old camper. I've gotten so excited about it after reading your post that I can hardly STAND it!!

What a blessed little dude! My little ones are getting ready for camp with their grandparents too! They will be dividing the time between both sets as me and my honey of 10 years get ready for our first vaction since our honeymoon (other than a weekend get away). I am getting halfway done typing the "book" of instructions...or should I say helpful tips for the fun week.
My heart can completely relate to Amanda as she is gone from her little one and I know she rests in full peace that he is in WONDERFUL hands.
Thank you Beth for being YOU...awesome granny, mom, friend, teacher...and the list goes on!

Happy Birthday Dear Siesta! I am so thankful to GOD for you. You are truly loved by Your Father. I know that you are because over this past year I have been "mentored" by you almost daily through the Bible studies and when I was pulled from my pit, I had no idea what or who to go to.
I had been so badly beat up and bruised through the years from a background very, very similar to yours EXCEPT for the fact that legalistic, hurtful churches had made me feel even more shame.
I lived from pit to pit, just like you and for much of the same reasons.
Well, GOD in HIS awesome wonderous way led me to your Bible Studies. I was positive that you were one of those women who were going to tell me how to make a nice pretty home, which is fine except I was homeless at the time.
But, when I picked up "Get Out Of That Pit" and started to read it, I cried and sobbed in thankfulness and gratitude to Our Father for letting me see someone that had lived almost as much pit life as I had! GOD put me in a great church and you were "picked" definitely by HIM to help me to learn how to be healed by HIM.
I was 48 on June 11 and I think your birthday is on June 16 Amanda said, so you at least heeded GOD's guidance way before I did, but you came back for me and I thank you that you did!!

I am a living, breathing miracle of HIS awesome power today. Thirty years ago I was thrown into a huge pit by an older youth minister that raped me as a virgin and then I was told I was going to be defiled forever unless I married him. I believed this messed up lie for 30 years while I faked it and fell into one ditch after another or most of the time jumped.
Thank you that GOD told you to come back to get all of us that believed the lies and were held in pits of captivity so long! I am now in the encouragement ministry at my church and God's words through you and then on to the women I will pray for will help them escape and "Break Free"!

mnHow fun! My own campers (ages 8,5 and 3) are headed to "cousins camp" in 2 days. A total of 7 children under the ages of 10 will spend a week with their "mimi" and "dude" (grandparents) at their river house. They are all about to jump out of their skin to get to "camp" for unlimited hugs, fun and oreos. What a blessing! As my mom says, "I was a good parent to 4 children but I get to be a GRAND parent to all my babies!" Have a great, slobbery week!
Beth I just have to take a moment to encourage you... What a wonderful mom and grandmother you are! Camp Bigs sounds like it is running like a well oiled machine!! This week will no doubt leave you all with precious memories to cherish forever.
I have been praying so much for you, your family, and the ministry God has entrusted to you. Thank you again for your obedience to our precious Lord. He has used your teachings to transform my heart and mind in drastic ways- praise His Name! You have been a long distance mentor to me, and I am forever grateful.

Why the name Camp Bigs? Just curious. I'm glad camp is going well, but I sympathize with Amanda as I well remember how difficult it was to leave my baby girls!

My mother and Emma's (4) and Andrew's (2) Grandma Ruby is coming this Sunday and will stay for a week while our Daddy is in Memphis on a missions/work trip. WE CAN'T WAIT!! Have fun, bask in the sunshine radiating from that little boy, and may we glorify our Father in heaven as we try to be fully present and fully alive!
Love to hear your stories of your times with Jackson. Can't wait to have my first grandchild, due on July 30th.

Too cute! We live in Europe and all the grandparents live in the U.S., so our daughter hasn't had the chance to do a "Grandparent Camp" yet. But when she does I hope it is even half as fun as yours!
This blog has become a refuge for me, too. I rarely post, but I do come here to read the encouraging (and hilarious!!) things that everyone has to say. It truly is a blessing.

Mama B, I am working at a camp myself...although our campers aren't near as darling as Granny Big's blue-eyed heart throb. We have about 1000 middle and high school kids a week for 10 weeks straight-all here to learn about the wonder that is our Savior. Here we sit at week 2, and already the salvation stories are endless, my heart is breaking with humility, and the Lord's kingdom is growing like mad! :)
If you hear any groaning from the coast of NC, fear not...that's just the devil getting stomped on by some serious Jesus-lovin' youngins. God has showed up BIG TIME!!!!! :D
Isn't it great Beth? My husband and I are driving over to Magnolia next week to "camp" with our five grandchildren. We always have such fun with them, but I do have to admit that this Grandma gets just a wee bit worn out. I thought exercise was supposed to give you more energy!!

Not sure how to do this and I tried earlier, so I apologize to whoever reads this if I'm repeating myself. Is anyone in blogland from TX? I live and teach in FL and am working with some colleagues to reform our huge comprehensive test, the FCAT. I read recently where TX is going to exit exams instead of a comprehensive test. I would LOVE to know how that was accomplished. Can anyone tell me? We have been working with politicians in our state and have gotten no where. I love Beth Moore's teachings and recently realized that Living Proof Ministries is based in TX. I don't know anyone who lives in TX, so I'm hoping someone out there knows someone in TX education who knows something. Beth Moore rocks!! And I hope it's ok to use this blog to request info. I love reading what you have to say about Jackson. You are exactly the same type of grandparent both of my parents are...totally obsessed with their grandbaby (they only have one so far now).

Dear Beth, I just finished listening to an online Nehemiah study. I listen when I clean house. You blare loudly through my whole house! Even my boys know your voice. In fact, I was at the Life Today taping a month ago for the interview on Get Out of That Pit and while I was gone my 8 year old little boy asked my husband if we were best friends! Just want you to know how much you mean to me and how much God speaks to me through you. Thank you for being so very real and honest. Love you!

We moved to Iowa a year ago so our daughter, Everly, could be close to at least one set of grandparents...it was the best decision ever! I recall so many fun memories with my grandparents. One set just lived a block away - there was always hot chocolate waiting for me during those cold Illinois winters when I arrived at their house on my paper route...Grandma was watching for me. How could we not let our daughter enjoy making those memories with grandparents!!! It's so wonderful living close to family again!

Enjoy that little boy, they grow up too soon. My son is 13 now and he spent the night with my mother in law(who my kids call Tommie, her name is Becky?!!!?) the other night and has gotten too tall and big to sleep with her. He hasn't stayed with her in a while and it broke her heart to realize he's not a little guy anymore.

Last summer was the first Camp Kilcoyne. I had to put a major guilt trip on mom and dad to let sweet little Claire participate. It was wonderful! We did many of the same things I am sure you will do. But at the end of the week, Nana was worn out. Just watching her was exhausting. But I wouldn't give anything for that time. Mom, Dad and Claire have gone to France to serve as career missionaries so that may be the only session of Camp Kilcoyne.

I have had one of those sorts of days. The world has been practicing some mean left hooks on me today; also a few blows right in the gut. HOWEVER, I'm still standing. Still pressing on. And this place, as it has been so often for me over the past months, has been a happy little shelter. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I'm a mom of young kiddos, but I so hear you on being Camp Director for a week - at 35 I can't wait to love on grandkids - my best memories are with my grandma - you go siesta make those memories with that baby!! Keep us posted - it's a delight to hear! If anything is good, true ... think on these things is something I heard recently :-)

I am writing to ask all of you to pray for a dear friend of mine. Her mother just passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. The funeral is on Thursday and on Friday she will be induced into labor with her third baby. Needless to say, it is a bitter sweet time for the whole family. I just knew that all of you would lift her up in prayer during this difficult time. Thank you so much.

An anonymous comment just begged for me to share a word of testimony. I am a sister who has been corporately mentored by Beth for most of the years she has been in ministry, so it might surprise you to know that on numerous occasions, I've had to face down the not-so-jolly green giant of envy, or as another blog sister put it, the "green meanies"
Beth, I love what you said in "90 Days With A Heart Like His" about God's most creative work being when He creates in us a clean heart. Well, that's exactly what He did on February 14th - a spiritual marker to be sure - when He, The Great Physician, performed supernatural heart surgery to remove the bitter root of jealousy that had spiraled out of control so fast I hadn't realized what hit me.
I had to learn the hard way that comparing your fruit, mission, ministry, or blessings with that of another believer is dangerous business and will only lead to heartache.
I have wonderful news for my sweet sister who longs for the favor of God. If you are in Christ, you already have it. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for we are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)This is not a part of the verse, but there is neither popular or obscure either. If you are in Christ, God sees you exactly as He sees Curt & Amanda Jones, Keith, Beth, and Melissa Moore. Here's another verse that may help. For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)
Not only do I have wonderful news, but I have a practical and I've found it to be a powerful suggestion. It's very simple - pray. If you find yourself wanting what another has, ask God to give whatever it is you want - to them. In God's economy, when you give unselfishly - God always returns the blessing.
When I initially bore my heart online and confessed to my jealousy, I signed my name. After that comment, the Holy Spirit of God clearly impressed on my spirit that I was not to sign my name to any future comments. I am, instead, to serve Beth and LPM by praying for the ministry which I do with great joy. I apologize for the length of this post and I hope this helps. If a fellow sojourner can learn from my scars then it's worth the pain.

This is such a strange relationship...this blognet...but I so look forward to getting a tiny glimpse of what your life is really like. I am tickled that you are spending this time with your two babies ;), Jackson and Melissa. Love 'em up and have a blast! I recommend some time blowing bubbles and paint mommy a visor with little ladybugs made out of Jackson's fingerprints. You might even make some butterflies with your's and Melissa's fingerprints!

From a mom who has her choice of two Camp Granny's you are so awesome to do this. I have so many friends who are left without the option of having a vacation alone with their spouse and it is so important. Hubby and I try to do it at least once a year!

Hi Beth! I'm a "MeMe" and I absolutely love it. My little camper is playing t-ball this summer, but we are still trying to figure out why they have 4 yr olds playing baseball at 8 p.m. at night. The only reason that we could come up with is they wouldn't be falling out from the heat. Bear Creek's fields don't provide alot of shade. He's pretty good at golf too. He is a hoot and a half. I am also MeMe to 2 chocolate labs as my other daughter (Amber) and her husband decide when to start the rest of their family. Wish that you could come join us for a game, I know that Amber would love to see you. Tell Melissa "Hi" for us. It seems like yesterday that they were playing volleyball. Time has just flown by. My parents currently have my oldest son (he is 7yr) for the whole week. I called him this morning and he said "mom why do you keep calling me EVERYDAY?" That cracked me up!! I would definitely say he is having so much FUN!!

Reading through your list of payment for camp bigs made me think about my favorite things - one of my (many) favorites is when they are little and get out of the bath and take off running with their little tushies just a jigglin' all the while laughing their heads off - LOVE IT!!

My name is Grammy and my little guy is one year younger than Jackson. Andrew was born in Feb of this year. And I too love him so much that it overwhelms me.
Yesterday he was here at our camp which I have not named yet. I gave him a bath which he liked. Then after he was dry and lotioned, I was doing the final touches of his eyes and ears with cotton balls and Q-tips. I was engrossed in my task and happened to look at him, and he was staring up at me with such adoration that I was shocked. It totally humbled me. And of course brought joy.
I love being a Grammy. What a blessing.
I could definitely use some time at Camp Bigs. It warms my heart to think that Jackson knows how much he is loved! I, too, am a survivor of childhood abuse and getting my Master's in Counseling to work with Trauma survivors. I wish that every child had the chance to be loved and adored like you do precious Jackson. I can imagine it is so much easier to accept the unconditional love of Christ when you have been shown it by people. I am so thankful that you share your life with us, Beth! You give me so much hope and encouragement! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I read some of the comments and a lot of people are wishing they could send their children - I don't want to send my child - I WANT TO COME!!!!

I love seeing grandparents invest in the lives of their grandchildren...as well as investing in the marriage of their child with their spouse. I love that about my in-laws and how many times they have kept our Boo for us - I tell them each time they are helping Jeremy and I invest in our marriage, which is one of the best gifts I can give my child, aside from helping lead him to Christ.
