I Got Me a Fresh Word from God

I know I just wrote last night but I can't help myself. Why? Because I got me a fresh word from God. There I was on my walk this morning with Beanie who was racing squirrels and nearly pulling my left shoulder out of socket. Praise was blaring from my headphones and I mostly had my right arm straight up in the air. I thought about something really cool God did in the last 24 hours and I had to give Him a "Yahoo!" Maybe you don't get the term because you don't live in Texas. Or maybe you've never said it right and for that reason, it has never been fulfilling. Here's how you have to say it so you can practice: you NEVER say the first syllable with a "Yah" as in "Paw." Never. You say it with a short "a" as in "Gag." Then, you hold it out for a long time: "Yaaaaahhhhhhhhh"! Only then can you add a comparatively short: "hoo"! And you kind of fall off the note a bit on the "hoo." Start high and loud. End low and quick.

So, anyway, I wondered if God enjoyed "yahoo!" Maybe not as much, I thought, since it's just a celebratory word without identifying who you're giving praise to. An intelligent person might reason that "Yah" in the first half of it is Hebrew for Lord but I don't know that the Texans who were home, home on the range where the deer and the antelope play had brushed up on their etymology. Furthermore, the way we came to butcher it (along with the deer and the antelope) with a short "a" might not give Him the praise He's due. Hence, my new word. All at once it came right over me. Almost like a moment of inspiration. "Yahoo-Jah!" Yes, indeed! Just try it! Feels right, doesn't it? A Texas "Hallelujah!" We're a hospitable State, happy to share, so go right ahead and take it up with us if you have a mind to. I expect it to spread.

So, that's what happened to me this morning. I've said it a lot of times since then. In fact, my lips are kind of mouthing it right now.

I'm so happy.

Oh, Beth, what would I do without you? I'm having to miss Bible study this morning (Patriarchs session 6!) because of a sick child. I was feeling sorry for myself- selfish, I know, but I just love my Bible study- the ladies, the discussion, the video, the prayer time. Just love it. So I'll choose to Yahoo-Jah at home instead. Thanks for reminding me!

ok...I'm sure I'm not the only one who is dying to know! Is this a "private" word from the Lord or one you get to share? :-)

I can always count on my sistas to brighten my day! As I geared up and got ready for my morning, behind my keyboard, in my little cubicle, I cracked up laughing! In "cube world" you can't laugh too loud, you know. Didn't matter today. You have such a way with words. Thanks for brightening my day and a mighty "Yahoo-Jah" right back at 'cha.

Way up here in the North (as in Kirkland/Seattle Washington area), we are not prone to the "Yahoo's" though country music is the number one station in Seattle. However, anything that Praises Yah(Jah) I would be happy to learn and thus teach others how to walk in this particular kind of freedom! The chains fell off: Yahoo-jah! Oh He is Good all of the Time!

there is a random man outside picking up trash across from my house. i'm going to pass along yahoo-jah :) we should seriously get this thing in the dictionary.

this is so strange, but you know how you have words that you don't like to say (or maybe i'm just weird..haha) but there are words like 'vomit' (*cringe*) 'cream' (*double cringe*) 'moist' (*king cringe*) ...and i just don't like the way they sound when i say them.

well, "fresh" used to be one of them (HAHA...no idea why) but i LOVE the way you use that word to talk about something new that you have learned...so just wanted you to know that you have officially cured me of my fear of this word :)
the cringe factor is no more :D

Hey Beth,
I love your good Word!
I think perhaps the Texans have it right (even with the Yah). My husband is a Texan born and bred and he likes to point out that a Texan word like "vittles" comes from victuals which comes from the french word vitaille. Thought you'd enjoy that! Also, being an Aggie, I think that Texas Texas YeeHaw (from UT) says it all. At A&M, they would have said Texas Texas YAH hoo! :)
YAH hoo!

I totally understand about the yahoo as I'm from Tennessee originally (now stationed in San Deigo, CA - yes, WAY out of my element but wonderful nonetheless). Where I'm from it's more of a "Yeeeeeehaaaaaaaaah" though. (Think duke boys from dukes of hazzard and you've nailed it!)

Like our sista Cathy, I was sort of feeling sorry for myself a bit today, too. For the same reason I might add--I missed my Tuesday morning bible study and it was the LAST one of a 12-week session. It couldn't be helped, though, as my darling hubby and I had to attend a funeral. And, as it was a study in personal discipline, I will happily admit that I finished every single question and read every single word of the homework! :-)

Reading your post, Beth, brought a smile to my face, laughter to my spirit and a strange look to the face of my dog, Cody. I'm sure he couldn't, for the life of him, figure out what the heck I was trying to say! He was looking at me, only as a dog could, with his head cocked to the side, one ear up and one down as if unsure whether he wanted to really listen, or just run and hide.

Thank you, thank you, Beth, for being such a wonderful and "real" woman of God and sharing with us His lovely sense of humor! For today, it was just what I needed.

Hugs,
Lisa

Beth, you are precious because you are His! I'm in pure adoration for our Savior!! I wrote this to a friend just this morning:
Are you ever so on fire for Him and feeling filled to the brim with His Spirit that you can't sit still, wanting to just burst? Yeah, that's me today. Last night in the car, my daughter asked if she could read my "car" Bible and I said, "OF COURSE!" She started in Genesis and she read the whole way home. Then, last night she (7 years old) let me borrow her iPod when I went on a power walk and it has almost all praise and worship music, so that was a fabulous workout (for my body AND soul). I read in Psalms last night and God is so very gracious because He showed me an expounded definition of what mercy means through the commentary at the bottom. Yes indeed, right there in the middle of Psalm 9. Then, this morning as we are pulling out of the driveway, listening to our Glory Revealed CD, my daughter asks if she can read the Bible again. I said, "OF COURSE!" The most precious thing is that no matter how He gets His Word through to me, He's going to make it amazing, because HE IS amazing!!! And I love it too when my little man (3 ½) sits in that back seat and sings along w/ Michael W. Smith and Shane & Shane to “Come, Worship the King” (from Glory Revealed) belting “Ohhhhhhhhh, He is Jehovah." Most precious music to my ears~my babies singing and reading praises to our Great God!

Ok my sweet sister...you can't lay a word like that on us without some extra help with pronunciation. I'm a Mississippi girl and phonetically challenged to begin with...sitting here trying to pronounce your word from the Lord has been a hoot! (I hold you personally responsible for the decline in my sanity rating with my colleagues who are around me)And I still don't know if I've gotten it right! So I would like to make a request...how 'bout(in your own sweet voice) recording the correct pronunciation of your word and placing on the blog for us all to hear? Then in one mighty chorus all us "sistas" might join with you in offering a great big "Yahoo-jah" to the Lord! Can you help a sista out? You are so much fun!

You help me see God's glory. For example, yesterday when you told us the story of your friend going to the dentist. My first reaction was, the first dentist was trying to make a quick buck. Who would have ever thought our God is The Divine Dentist? In today's society I think we have been programmed to overlook God's glory.
We beg God to show us His glory and when He does (speaking for myself) I don't have sense enough to recognize Him. Thank you for your Godly insight. And for the wacky and funny way you have of sharing with us. May the scales continue to fall from my eyes. I don't want to miss one glimpse of His glory!

Sista Beth,

You are definitely an exclamation point!!!! :-)I love that because I finally "meet" someone that is more of one than I am (maybe!)

Oh HE IS SO GOOD!! I was able, with money that I had been blessed with, to purchase alot of your teaching CDs from LPM - my own little library to loan and share with my sistas.

Well, Hope Encounters was so awesome and I loved every tearful moment of recovery, but, HE spoke to my heart and told me to give it to one of my dear sistas who had experienced childhood sexual abuse, as well.

Even though I know she is a wonderful believer and has helped me with her strong faith, the HOLY SPIRIT just kept telling me to give her the Hope Encounters CD's not loan it to her.

I am going to copy and paste what she sent to me in an e-mail without naming her:
-----------
"Teresa,
Just wanted to send a special thank you for the CDs you sent from Beth. I knew what the topic was and I was afraid to listen. I had been praying for the Lord to heal me totally and finally the HS said "listen."
I have a page of notes. I'm sure it is just what I need.
God bless and keep you.
Love and blessings...."

Beth, GOD is so on time all the time when we just do what he asks!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!

Yahoo-Jah to the ONE all praise and honor is given!!

This comment is for "Can't Fight Anymore".....

Yes, m'am there is most definitely a God and it's only been in the last six years that I've been able to say that and believe it. You name a pit and I've probably lived in it or at least vacationed there. I actually came to know Jesus while trying to prove someone wrong on a point of theology that I just couldn't accept. I was as lost as a stop sign, but yes, I was debating theology. Go figure. I found a bunch of my daddy's old books in the bottom of a closet and drug them out for no other reason than to prove this person wrong. I started reading "Christianity The Faith That Makes Sense" by Dennis McCallum and about halfway through it as I was sitting at my kitchen table, my mouth fell open and I said, outloud, "Oh, crap(maybe that wasn't the exact word I used), it's real!!!" It was as if the Holy Spirit reached around my head and slowly pulled away the veil from my eyes. I've never been the same. Did I leave all my pits that day? No. By the grace of God I'm out of the most obviously destructive ones and He's pulled my sorry butt out of quite a few pits that I never even knew I was in. I imagine He'll be pulling me out of pits for the rest of my life, but to His glory, they won't all be deep nor will they all be slimy, although even the shallow ones will get deeper if we continue to waller in 'em.

Beth will be the first to tell you that it's not easy. Very few times have I ever prayed about a situation when it didn't get worse before it got better. Have you ever noticed that when you get really serious and commit to doing some hardcore house cleaning (I'm talking closets and cabinets that haven't been touched in ages) things start looking worse than they did before you decided to clean? You might even say, "Why did I bother? It was more bearable before I started cleaning." What has happened is you have drug out a lifetime's worth of clutter. You've got it layed out all over the place, trying to figure out what to keep, what to throw out and what to set fire to. Giving up and cramming all of that stuff back in that closet and shutting the door is not going to work. You've already taken it out. You'll never get it all crammed back in there. It's going to be hanging out everywhere and looking worse than it did layed out all over creation. You've got to hang in there until the job is done, knowing that step by step you will get to a place where it's all (or at least most of it is) making sense. God is the same way. When you give Him access to all the rooms in your life, He will go into the business of cleaning out every closet you own (and a few you never knew you had). Stuff might be pulled out that you thought you'd thrown away years ago. When it's all said and done you WILL get to a place where it starts making sense.

Forget about what you "feel." The heart is deceitful above all things. Your feelings will lie to you. If I'm saved only when I "feel saved", then I'm in big trouble. Belief is something you choose to do, not something you feel. Gas is something you feel, but that's a different blog : )

I'm going to be praying for you incessantly. God IS going to reveal Himself to you. You can click on my name and it'll take you to my blog where you can reach me. Here's my e-mail too:

I love it! Two quick stories...

Saturday night I went to the Supercenter (that would be WalMart for those who don't know)and took my 2 year old son along. He's quite the chatterbox when isn't around and was talking his head off. All of a sudden he started saying "how-a-woo-yuh" & "pays-duh-ward" at the top of his lungs. We had our own praise service right there on the toilet paper aisle... Sometimes the cuteness just oozes out of him.

Then tonight at supper my 4 year old was discussing where his sister (she's 7 months) is going to live when she's grown. I said I didn't know. I started naming various states; Arkansas (grandparents live there), California... Or she could live in a different country (other grandparents are missionaries). I asked, "where are you going to live?" His response, "In a new country....Texas (where aunts and uncles live). Yep! He'll make a good Texan one day. = )

Thanks for the laugh and the mental picture. I teach 3rd grade, am in grad. school at night, and have had the longest day. It started off with 3 children in tears over the no "Santa Claus" realization. Right here in April? I don't get it. Lots of bumps in the road in between, but it ended with me leaving grad. school at 9:15 and heading home to my new little puppy. Couldn't wait to nuzzle my nose in her soft puppy fur. Only to find that she had rolled in the squirrel that Beanie had chased this morning. He must have chased it all the way to Alabama. By now Beanie's squirrel was dead and Lilly isn't smelling too great. A puppy bath this late wasn't what I was looking for. I found this website and your post made me giggle and re-evaluate. THANKS!

What a great lesson last night!!! the fresh-word and the special yaaahoo-jah brought blessings to bible study!!!!

Yahoo-jah!!!! I love it:) I've passed it on to a couple of others already this morning. What a way to praise the Lord!
On another topic, way to go Beth, last night at Bible Study. I had brought a friend with me who said she needed a lesson on marriage. Little did she know what she was getting into. I called it Bible study, her knowledge of Bible study is a room with about 15 people. She walked in and said, "WOW, this is the biggest church I've ever been in." She was taken aback by the music, but loved it. Then we get into the subject matter, which by the way was done very tastefully and to the point, The group of us looked at her and said, "Welcome to Tuesday night". She did say that she learned something and that she would hope to come back next Tuesday for the parenting lessons. I love the "ministry" metaphor. After last night, I think husbands will be sending you thank yous for the lessons we learned. Thank you from me for being willing to put yourself out there to teach us what God has laid on your heart. With a big Texas Yaaaaahoo-jah!!!!!! We love ya

God be praised :)

LOL! I love your southern accent anyway, Beth. So it tickled me all the more to receive "proper instruction" on how to say this fab new word.

The only word I've enjoyed more might be my 7yo's creation from when she was about 5yo. She came up with "Shoot-of-a-gun-it." That would be shoot, son of a gun and darn it all rolled up in one.
Blessings,

I'll give a Yahoooooo-jah of a yell to our precious Savior....

Hopefully I won't be like jewelsbb and tee tee on myself.. You know I'm into multitasking these days (laughing and teein' at the same time--qualifies)

Blessings and thank you for waking me up every Wednesday at 5:30am on TV....

Beth - Why do I feel like I know you? Why do I feel like you are one of my best friends? I saw you at a LPL event, and waived like a silly 1st grader. It would have been rude to not speak to someone who has been with me through so much. I couldn't speak, so I waived. Of course, you waived back.
Thanks for sharing all these moments with us your friends! I count on your friendship.

Oh I want to come to Tuesday nights! (...Whining) I especially need next week, as I just got a call from my daughter's ( who is 7) teacher, and she said my nine year old son signed the orange (2nd warning) sheet she brought home yesterday. She told me she stayed on green (no warnings). I think I need me some Proverbs lessons on parenting....aye aye aye!

Oh, Beth, thank you girl! As a proud Texan of one year, I love that Texan slang! After my day yesterday of diagnosed with bronchitis at 8 a.m., speeding ticket at 12:30 p.m., and hit by a transfer truck at 12:45 p.m. I needed a new praise word!

I love it. Got me my own, though! Every morning I run over the Illinois River,on a very busy bridge. Yesterday I had to stop and give the Lord a "Rocky" type cheer, you know-arms raised in a V, feet spread, looking for all the world like I had lost my mind. I couldn't help it, I had my praise music blaring, too, and God just made me want to give Him a full body hallelujah! Boy, it was awesome, until a seagull nearly took me out. I kid you not, that bird swooped down like he was aiming right for my headphones! At least he didn't leave any droppings on me. I'm sure the early morning traffic got a kick out of it. I don't mind, I'll praise Him all day long despite any "fiery darts" or, well, silly birds. Love ya sista!!

Just got a call from the principal and she said my son didn't sign it, her seat mate on the bus did...well at least that's one less. Sistas, please pray for our response to our daughter. We're after that lil' heart.
Love ya'll,

Dear Beth,
This blog bugs me when I have something soooooooooooooo awesome to share it messes up and I can't share. Ok! for the second time typing this. I know it has to be Satan!
I wanted you to know that I say yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahoo! lots and all the people know me think I'm a little nutty. Well Monday night I was really Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahooing! hey I like that word. Anyway we had just finished a bible study on Coversation Peace and it was soooooooooooooooooooooooo maazing what God did in the lives of all the women in the study. The Lord really moved and changed the way we think and what comes out of our mouths. My words were vile and disgusting and how God shows us how much we can hurt others. When the Lord finally shows us what kind of people we have been. It makes you just stand in awe......what can you say. People shared such powerful things the Lord had done in their lives. I wanted to stand up in the study and yell yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahoo. They might have had me carted away for that, but it is so neat to see the power of the Lord.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahooo-jah...I like it. It sounds like an old jalopy horn.
Did I just use the word the jalopy?:) You are gloriously goofy in a way that must delight the Lord so much. It reminded me of the time in Phoenix LPL when you were talking about people that have it all together and you laid back on the stage with your one hand sticking up in the air gesturing. I laughed so hard I thought I would bust! ( and thought, I'm not alone!!!!) Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaahooooooooooooo-Jah! Bless you Beth! Julie B Tucson

Beth,

I have a 3 yr old (red headed) nephew...man is he ever the most handsome little guy. Anyway, he walked in the living room and informed his mother and me that he need something from the "frig". His mother made a comment of some sort to which he replied... you know Mom the "frig" it's a "fake" word...he said,"normally you say refrigerator but you can also call it just a frig." So his made up words are know as fake words :)
I agree with Sheila you are just like a really close friend. I'm glad you are that way...most spiritual leaders seem untouchable and that their lives are perfect. If I sit and listen to a seemingly perfect person then I'll never feel I can grow spiritually. Thank you for being you.

Hey Beth,
I don't know if your still reading these or not, but I wanted to tell you that I read your blog yesterday morning about your "fresh word" and I laughed to myself and thought I want a Yaahoo-Jah moment today! I felt pretty foolish and tried to say it in my NY accent a few times, let's just say I was very unsuccessfullly!LOL! Anyway, I went to the park with my two little boys shortly after reading your post. I was feeling a bit lonley because I just moved here to Tx from upstate NY a few weeks ago not having made any friends yet. I was wondering how on earth I was going too. When suddenly I met this sweet girl about the same age as myself at the park. She invited me to her play group. Let me just tell I was so excited not only because I made a new friend but because the Lord was so in that moment! He knew the desire of my heart and blessed me so sweetly! He is always there, He is so Good! As we walked home I couldn't help but think of you and I mustered up a Texas Yaahoooo-Jah Oh praise Him! Thanks for sharing with us you helped make my day!

I know you aren't taking anymore comments for the things children say, but I HAD to add mine in there. It took me forever to figure out how to respond. Amanda, thank you so much for helping me!!!

This past Christmas, my 5 year old daughter wanted to know why Jesus kept coming back as a little baby and why did He always had to die on the cross all the time. God love her!!!

Beth,

Yahoo-Yah definitely has a ring to it but I got stuck on "Glory" a couple years ago. I don't remember in which study it was that you said that a lot but it sure stuck with me. We'll see if Yahoo-Yah can compete!

Love you, Su from CO

oh my goodness! yahhhoo-yah (or however it's spelled). Dearest Beth, you are truly hysterical! It took me awhile to get what you meant on how to say it. I practiced and practiced. I even tried to get my four 18 yr. olds to help me but ya know how that goes! They ran for their bedroom telling me basically how ridiculus I sounded. And oh my who knows who could walk through the door anytime. I got myself laughing so, my dog ran over to me and started "hallowing" or should I say "yahhooing" in my FACE! Glory be! One of my kids told me that's what I sounded like! And my 6 yr.old (oops I mean 7) slept through it all and now I have a stomache ache! Thank you Beth for the new word and great laugh but not the stomache ache.
P.s. I do that multi-tasking thing also but had an empty bladder, thank God, or I really would have died laughing and my teenagers would have renounced me as their mother! (Maybe that's not such a bad thing!) Love all you sistERS, imagine the fun we'll have when we're together in heaven! Joanne in NH

Okay, so I live in Michigan and I have tried this SO many times and I just can't do it!!! Take note that it is now April 5th and you're all on the next one and I am so far behind! I am stressing out because I so want to GET it!!! I don't want to feel left out of the loop, sistas! Oh well... and a note about the dental concerns. I have to make a comment since I am a dental hygienist! For all who have a difficult time financially to take good care of your teeth, don't forget that you can go to your nearest dental school to get your work done aand for a lot more reasonable fees and you know you will be in excellent hands! And KEEP FLOSSING!
Much love to my new friends... Now I need to get back to trying this "Yaaaaaaaaaaaahoo-jah"!

I recently read your book Breaking Free, and I can honestly say my life has changed...and I will NEVER be the same!! Yahoo-Jah!!!

Beth, I can understand your new word. I have a son, 4 and daughter, 2. In our house, all I have to do is ask "Do you want to give Jesus some love?" and the two of them are right on. We count "1-2-3 YAY JESUS!!!", with arms high in the air. We do it loud and we do it often. I can imagine His Holy smile. Thank you Jesus, for helping me to raise these babies with a happy heart for You. I pray that our praise offering is acceptable and pleasing to You. Thank you, Jesus, Thank you!

Ok, Mrs Beth..I too got a fresh word from my God today. It is so sweet! I have been praying for God to encourage me in my pursuit of writing a book and just his overall plans for my future. From Believing God I learned the power of scripture prayers. So.. I have my little flip books and flash cards that have seen me through the good and the bad. This season is rather good in nearly all areas, so the scriptures don't pertain to a specific need, but rather a variety of verses turned prayers for me, my husband, little man and my family. Well, in LONG..:) God spoke a fresh word over me from a verse I pray for my son, Patrick. Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." As surely as I was saying it outlout to my Jesus, it was as if he spoke it right back to me. " I appointed YOU as a prophet to the nations." ME!!! My inner being is screaming with delight...He called and choose ME! YEAHHHHH!! Of course then my 'have to know all the details self' looked up the definition of prophet to see exactly what my job description is. :) Hehe. I had to share my joy with you! Thank you for giving me the pleasure of doing so! In Him, Sara G.
