10 Things You Might Not Know
Hi, Siestas! I think I've got a fun one! I saw this idea in one of those complimentary airline magazines and showed it to Michelle (who was sitting right next to me) with great enthusiasm and said, "I'm going to do this with the Siestas!" to which she dryly said, "Great, Ma'am." (I adore her. To say that she has whiplash after going from Washington D.C. to Living Proof Ministries is the understatement of the year. She really doesn't want to talk a lot about mascara and would not be caught stone-cold-dead in a pair of Capri pants. And never in her entire life has she had to keep a small bottle of anointing oil in her brief case...just in case her boss calls for it. She has also never before had a boss request a photo-shopped picture of herself on a Spiderman costume. A post for another time.)
I'm sorry. I have a little ADD this morning. Back to my idea. It's not very original but I think it will be a blast. As we're getting to know one another here in Siestaville, let's hit the fast forward button. What are 10 things - right off the top of your head - that we would only know about you if we knew you really well? 10 random things ranging anywhere on your personal map that make you a tad distinctive? Or just plain weird? Think quickly. Don't go for deep. Go for quirky. Don't try to put them in any kind of order and don't make them long. Just start typing. I'll go first to give you the idea.
1. I have an addiction to Ziploc bags.
2. I hate wet socks worse than almost anything.
3. I was the only baby out of 5 born to my mother with no anesthesia. She never forgot it.
4. I wore braces for 12 years. I still often sleep in a retainer.
5. I am a read-aholic. I read over others' shoulders. I walk the aisle on airplanes to see what others are reading. I read what's laying on people's desks during meetings while they think I'm listening.
6. I love Black music.
7. I need slices of cakes and pies to be cut neatly with a sharp knife and not gouged out with a fork. (Nearly just got a shiver at the thought.)
8. My children call me "Doodle." I no longer remember why. Sometimes just "The Doods."
9. I am a very slow driver.
10. I'm a go-girl. I love the rush of taking off in an airplane. I smile almost every time.

1. I never put a drop of color/highlight/anything into my hair until I was 25.

1. As a child I was a tow-head; white fluffy hair that my mother used to brush straight up, so I looked like a q-tip.
2. I can read and write upside-down; comes in handy in meetings
3. I am a really good shot! My hubby and I used to shoot competetively in Cowboy Action Shooting (think old-timey western type shootouts), and in fact that is where I first started using the alias "Fuzzytop".
4. I stick my tongue out when I am really concentrating on something, or when I am very angry. My kids have learned this....
5. I was born in an old converted Navy barrack on the island of New Caledonia, in the South Pacific. Remember the old TV show Hogan's Heroes??? Same island.
6. I went to kindergarten in France, and my mom says I came home the first day of school and said "I know 3 ways to say SIT DOWN in French." I guess I spent most of the day jumping out of my seat. I don't remember this at all.
7. My cat sleeps on top of me - literally! She perches on my hip all night long.
8. I love that first cup of coffee in the morning... I even packed up my coffee maker and took it with me to Girl Scout camp.

I've been married 5 months and love it.
Much to the dismay of my husband I believe in doing laundry once a month.
I was in a near death accident when I was 6yrs old. After I came thru the surgery I became a christian. :) My mom was very taken aback by that.
1. i could eat mexican food every day of the week (maybe every meal).
2. my dog failed obedience school (i don't think they blamed the dog).
3. i can't hear out of my left ear.
4. i read an average of 2 books a week.
5. i'm shocked at the number of people who don't have middle names.
6. i like to walk and look at houses in neighborhoods and make up elaborate stories in my head about the people who live there who i don't know. (if a friend is walking me with me, they may unfortunately have to hear said story).

8. i cannot cut/chop food (meat, veggies, etc.). my family has made fun of me for years and actually insist that i do not participate in this portion of the food prep.

3. I once was asked to sing Happy Birthday on The Bozo Show when I was 6 and got stage fright and tanked!
4. My real name is Dori…no it isn’t short for Doris or Dorene or Doraldene! My mother named me after one of her dolls. Yes, I know there is a fish named after me in the movie “Finding Nemo.” It is spelled “Dory!” Just keep swimming…just keep swimming…
5. I have a recurring dream that I am climbing a mountain trying to get to a waterfall. And another one that I am at a theme park underneath a rollercoaster just watching it go over and over and over and over again. And another one that I am at an airport and there is a crash on the property while I’m there. And one more that I am supposed to sing a solo at church and arrive about 5 minutes after the service has started with curlers in my hair. Yes, I know…very random, but very scary all at the same time!
6. I actually looked over at my future husband before I even knew his name and told the girl next to me that he was the man I was going to marry.
7. When I was a newlywed I would leave work, catch a flight to wherever my traveling husband was, spend the night with him in his hotel room and fly back the next morning to get to the office. He worked for an airline and we flew for free. One time I flew to Raleigh to do this and decided that it was so much fun that I called in sick the next two days! Yeah baby!
8. I have never watched 24 or Lost. I don't like American Idol. And I don't get The Office.
9. My middle name is Michele - one "L." But I thought it had two until I was in the 7th grade.
10. I sang on a single adult praise team with Travis & Angela back in the late 80's at our church. We all had big hair and big shoulder pads and I remember we did a lot of Truth and First Call songs! :)

1. When I write in my blog, I pretend like only one person in the world reads it (sometimes I imagine it's a single girl somewhere in the world; sometimes I imagine it's my future mother-in-law whom I haven't met yet).
2. I (a single girl) watched a baby be born this past fall. Like, watched it be born. A human baby. I watched a human baby be born.
3. One time I met Amy Grant and, during her concert later that evening, she put me on stage and had the crowd sing Happy Birthday to me. I was in elementary school; I was the coolest girl in elementary school.
4. Later on, we were told to bring something we loved to hold during our school pictures. While the other kids brought basketballs and ballet shoes, I brought my entire Amy Grant tape and CD collection, my posters of her, my t-shirt with her face across it, etc. I was not the coolest girl in fifth grade.
5. If there was a way to permanently install a bump-it in my hair, I'd do it in a heartbeat. The higher the hair, the closer to God.
6. Sometimes I lay in bed at night and watch Shamu swim around his tank via his webcam (shamu.com). I am 25 years old.
7. When I was in school for an M.A. in religion, I was one of the only girls in the program, much less the youngest by far in the classes. The men in my class would bring their coffee from Starbucks and look all cool. I don't like coffee, so one day I went to Starbucks, got a cup of water, poured it out and filled it with Sunny Delight. They never knew. I hope.
8. I spent three weeks in Italy in college; this past year, I spent three weeks in Egypt. In Italy, I gained an appreciation for fine art and gelato; in Egypt, I gained an appreciation for orphans.
9. I currently provide continual care for my cousin's daughter, who is age four. When I put her in bed at night, I kneel beside her bed to pray with her. Most nights she thanks Him for my two puppies (who adore her even though she chases them throughout the house) and for me. When I hear her thank Him for "Amy Beff," sometimes I have a hard time standing up after we pray because I just want to lay my face on her bed and cry grateful tears.
10. I think the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (both the old and new versions) is the worst horror movie ever made. And yes, it IS a horror movie. Don't argue with me about this.
1. I love reading and collecting recipes, but I rarely ever cook them.
2. I adore page protectors. I put everything I can in them... even cutting them down to a specific size then using clear tape to seal the edges.
3. I'm doing SLI with a sweet group of friends, but haven't yet posted one week's response (will get to that!)
4. I'm a scrapbooker - but only in my head. Not yet in real life.
5. My dear husband and I are really enjoying this stage of life with our young teenager children.
6. I need a little bit of chocolate every day.
7. The Lord is teaching me to trust Him in a deep way "without fear or misgiving" (PS. 84:12 Amp)
8. I can't stand anyone chewing their food, gum, or ice close to my ear.

3. in 1996, new years eve, i rolled my car several times and took down several little pine trees & landed upside down. all this due to trying to use my new cell phone, which was huge. God truly spared my life that day.

I was watching session 7 of The Inheritance this morning and my 6 year old son came down just as Beth was talking about the difference in a talent and a spiritual gift. So my son says, "Oh! I get it mom! My ability to stand on my head is NOT a spiritual gift, it's just a talent!" He's got it!

5. I am a self-professed "bag lady" ...that means, if "it" (anything from make-up to bibles) comes WITH a cute little bag then I just have to buy it!

7. I own a Jack Lalane juicer and the one and only thing I tried to juice in it was a pomegranite. Yes, my counter tops looked as if I had field dressed a deer right there. =/

1) i can not for the life of me bring myself to eat a fast food hamburger. Only had one in my life to my knowledge.

7) I cant do Laundry unless the bed is made.
8) Cant stand clutter or stacks of things that dont belong in the same stack...would rather it be all messy than stacked together for the sake of looking nicer.
9) Didnt know what designer clothes were until i moved to Houston (i was 21) and a youth girl took me to the Galeria and explained it to me...my mind was blown. Seriously that much $$ for a tag.
10) my husband has more than 2 times the shoes i have. i am a shoe minimalist.
1. All of my siblings middle names rhyme, except mine, go figure? And I'm the middle child!
2. I wear scotch tape on one wrinkle on my forehead every night to smooth it out -- hey, no laughing, it works! My kids ask, "Mommy, does everyone do that?" Soon I'll need to tape the entire forehead:).
3. I watch the US earthquake website every day to see the quakes around the world. Love it!

1. I am most productive between the hours of 10pm till midnight. I am the least productive between 7 to 9 am. This was not a problem until I had children. Now it is a problem!
2. I met Steve Madden in college (not him personally, the shoes). I like to joke that he has been the most stable male relationship in my life! Followed closely by my husband of 10 years - but Steve came first.
3. I memorize phone numbers. Even if they are stored in my cell phone.
4. I go to Sonic every day. Happy hour 2-4. I am never far from a diet coke.
5. I am the oldest of 6 kids. I am often praised for my "leadership skills." When I was young, I was just called "bossy." :)

If I can't fix something in your life, then I'll just feed you: and I will always be polite and smile at you wether I have known you forever, have never met you or if I hate your guts. This is not fake - there is just no cause to be rude.

10. I read, read, read. And I love the library - I can have a stack of books that I bought from B&N on my bedside table, but if I don't have a few library books around too, I get nervous.

9) Many friends are surprised to hear from me that I'm insecure; guess I cover it up well.

1. I have an incredible desire to adopt a down-syndrome baby. Told my husband yesterday. He didn't think I was crazy but there was silence on the phone.
2. I want so badly to be a SAHM and by the end of the year or so be pregnant again (how soon we forget how miserable being pregnant was!)
3. I love open-window weather. That very sunny in-between frigid and sweat kind.
4. As of yesterday we are trying cloth diapers. I used to make fun of people who used them. Not the rag kind, but the kind that look exactly like diapers. I am about to save a ton of money and I can use them with future (God-willing!) children!

6. My son (6 months old) has seemingly discovered his tongue. He used to smile but now his smiles consist of sticking out his tongue!

8. My husband is amazing, a firefighter. It is a noteworthy, heroic profession. I give him too much crap (can I say that word?) about it because it pays so little. I don't mean to be condescending, usually it is jokingly, but I definitely need to work on that (only because I want to have a large family and such...)
9. I am obsessed with cows. We actually live across the street from them. We get to feed them, etc. But, I would love to bond with them... they don't like that!

1. This is the 1st time I've read every comment on this blog because I'm homeschooling 4 kids and don't have the time.

He laughed at me.
7. I am somewhat OCD and like things to be organized (even check my kids dresser drawers when I do a bedroom check every morning).
8. I am 47 years old and have never colored or highlighted my hair. I like my hair color. However, I'm starting to have too many gray hairs to pull out, so I think some highlighting is in my future.

10. I really want to move to St. Louis (grew up across the river in Belleville, IL - am now living in FL for the past 26 years and I really miss the seasons!).
