Cries For Mercy
My Dear Siestas,
We're having the same conversations in our family that many of you are having in yours. Melissa called me a little while ago and said, "You don't sound good, Mom. What is it?"
I told her I was just standing in front of the television screen still trying to wrap my mind around the ever-worsening horror in Haiti. She then said, "That's just what I was calling to talk about." While we were on the phone, Amanda called and we also shared our heart sickness over the unimaginable tragedies there.
Melissa mentioned that the more she watched, the more hopeless she felt and that suddenly she grasped hold of the obvious: "I don't have to just sit here feeling like there's nothing I can do. I can find a way to give." Amanda and I agreed that doing something tangible to help - like getting down on our knees in believing prayer and back up on our feet to open our checkbooks - might be the only way we three Moore women can sleep tonight.
Many of you already have avenues for giving to disaster relief. Others may not know exactly what to do. Compassion is already in active operation toward aid for Haiti and so is World Vision. You can also get on the official Red Cross website and give online. Go to Redcross.org then look for "donate" and choose "International Response Fund." You'll see Haiti specified there. I know for a fact that many of you are financially strapped right now and you might be looking for a way to make a vital contribution but one that won't put you further in the hole. Perhaps this ready option might work:
Text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts. It will be charged on your cell phone bill.
On any given day, around 10,000 independent visitors come to this blog. Ten dollars may not sound like a lot until you multiply it that many times over. Sister, if you don't have an extra dime to help, God knows the desires of your heart and esteems your powerful intercessory prayer. Let's just not sit here and twiddle our helpless thumbs. Join us as we cry out for mercy.
And miracles.

Thank you for posting this today. The best piece of wisdom I've heard recently is that, while we may not be able to do everything, we can do something. God honors our faithfulness, whatever it happens to look like.
I, for one, will donate, and I pray that others who read this blog will do the same.

thank you, Miss Beth for encouraging us to look outside ourselves. I pray that those who are able to give (even minimally) will do so and that all of us are on our knees. I can't even imagine what the Haitians are feeling right now. A litte while back we had a 4.2 tremor that was centered about 10 miles from my house. It was very, very frightening. This is so much more.

Normally I just check in the am for blog updates, but when I saw your notes I knew there was a reason to check tonight! I too have been shocked by what we have seen & heard. I wondered what would be the best way to give something even if it wasn't allot.

What has happened there is terrible, the photos of those poor people are heartbreaking!! May what we can give, whether financially or prayer, be used to glorify our Heavenly Father!!

Thank you for the links to encourage people to give!! I am a poor student teacher haha:) but I'm sending what I can!! And to think I get to wake up tomorrow morning and have my cup of tea and Special K, in the warmth and peace of my home...while so many no longer have homes, no longer have families, and are just roaming around. I especially think of the children/teenagers who lost parents. Those thoughts lead me to want to be able to do more than give money...I would love to snap my fingers and be there to hold those children, to wipe their tears, to sing to them in the midst of the chaos...
But as I know I cannot go, Thank goodness even in the hard times Jesus is Lord of all, and He is there is the midst of the chaos. Praying for Haiti!!
Hey Bethie, girls and siestas, I just knew if I came to the blog you would be addressing the nearly unimaginable situation in Haiti.
Please pray for our sweet Rose Bertha Philonne, who will be 12 on February 1. She has been "ours" through Compassion International since she was a tot.
I join you all in praying for the people of Haiti and those Americans on mission trips and American students who would probably all love to be home with their families right now.
I pray that our Heavenly Father, the Great I Am, will show His Face, His Mercy, His Love and His Compassion.
I know that our country, the United States of America, will show it's love,compassion and expertise and lead in the rescue and relief efforts.
Lord Jesus please comfort and put your arms around those that we cannot. Lord, please let even this horrible earthly tragedy show Your glory. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Partners in Health, Paul Farmer's extraordinary organization, has been on the ground in Haiti for a long time and is doing excellent work as well. I like supporting organizations that have a significant presence in a disaster area because I know they'll stick around.
PIH recognizes the link between natural disasters and poverty--a lot of the people in Haiti who survived the initial quake will die if they can't get medical treatment and clean water, commodities in short supply in the developing world. As a public health organization, PIH will be working on this "second wave" response as well.
Please keep the people of Haiti in prayer. Some of our missionaries from Oklahoma are over there also.

I don't have a lot of many thanks to my long jobless situation, but I gave $25. It's been hard to sleep thinking about this. The orphanage and church we built and our missionaries home have all been destroyed. The orphans have all lived thank God but they are on the streets.
I may have lost a lot, but I have a roof, water and electricity. I don't know what else to say. :(

These are incredible people!
The ministry we work with is called "New Missions". They have recieved lots of damage, but reported the people are still singing and praising God in the villages, right in the midst of the devastation!
Those are some excellent places to give.

I too have been sad, heartbroken, and in shock all day... and in prayer all day. I have friends who are in an orphanage ministry in Port-au-Prince, all alive today with all of their orphanage childen and staff -thanking God for this, but they all are traumatized, upset, shocked, afraid of after-shocks and now they are sleeping and living out in their back yard... Beyond what my mind can handle, but not beyond
God's grace, and His hand.

God sent a group of 48 from several churches to Haiti on Monday the day before the quake. They are at the mission compound taking care of injured just north of the airport. God sent the largest medical team this mission has ever seen. They are out of medical supplies. Local churches are loading a plane to send in Friday. Please pray for these and all the others already there serving Jesus, that supplies get to them and that God holds them up as they are His hands caring for the people there.
Yes, I have seen some of the devastating pictures from Haiti, and it IS simply that. However, due to my personal financial situation right now, my heart-felt prayers are the only thing that I am able to manage. But, I'm believin' God for some miracles there...

Please Siestas, pray for the Civil family! They are members of our church here in SW Florida and they have all of their extended family back in Haiti. As of right now, they have not been able to get in touch with any family member there.
This family is so precious! They have been having the most difficult time with the possibility of losing their home here and now this. The mother in the family is trying to get a flight out of Florida to get to Haiti to check on family this Saturday.

Beth, my middle daughter, Grace, arrived home less than a week ago from a mission trip to Haiti. She is beside herself not knowing the fate of the sweet children she ministered to there. She and her team ministered at Williamson school and House of Hope orphanage. They have not had any communication from Pastor Quene and his family (the pastor they worked with) They shared God's love through VBS, music, and fellowship. They passed out many Creole Bibles that they had brought with them and they witnessed baptisms in the ocean. God did a mighty work through their team and they came home feeling like they had been on the mountain top. On behalf of my daughter thank you for your loving concern and prayers for the people of Haiti who are dearly loved by many.

I worked for World Vision for nearly 7 years, and had the opportunity to travel to Haiti with them back in 2007. They are well established in the country and have excellent health and food programs there in addition to the emergency relief they are now doing. Thanks for mentioning all of these great organizations and reminding us of the importance of prayer in a time like this.

I was just in Haiti this past August and I'm going back this Thanksgiving week. My heart is heavy over imagining what my new friends are experiencing down there. If I knew it would do some good, I would be flying down there. I've been praying all day and night that God would bring everyone together to help this country. Bless you and your girls Ms. Beth!

Thank you for the posting. I have friends whose daughters were there when the earthquake occurred. They are working in a local orphanage. We just discovered they are alive! May the Lord move in hearts because He can take the widows mite and multiply it by millions!

Thank you for showing me how I can help the people in this disaster. I remember what a great help the Red Cross was to me and my family after Hurricane Rita in 2005. I will join you and your girls in prayer for this country. I continue to pray for your complete healing. I also pray that God will continue to use this time to cause you to rest in His all consuming love.
Don't forget to check with your and/or your husband's employer(s) to see if they have a disaster relief donation matching program. Many large companies do this. We are directing this paycheck's tithe to Haiti relief this way.

I have a friend who is on an Evangelical Medical Mission trip. They landed in Port Au Prince on Monday. They are all safe. Their supplies are now gone and they are awaiting evacuation via the US Navy...possibly coming home on C-130s. Is it ok that we leave our prayer requests for all Siestas to pray for? So far they have been brought many who are hurt so badly they can't even help.

In the midst of all of that, we were thanking GOD to hear that an orphanage we support was not hit. There are 2 precious ladies who have given their lives to these children for many years.

they are homeless too. He said nothing is left.

- Isi's house, but no word
on the shape of that. (Isi is Cecile's father and he lives at a hotel

manages. He has begun construction on a home that John is referencing
here that could accomodate the kids.)
Francisco said the roads are pretty bad and
bodies are everywhere. I'm working on a trip probably Jan 24th . I'll
need a lot of things. First off I'll need men willing to do this, we
will be running into some rough things. I need doctors willing to go
down, men willing to do hard work and rough it. We need meds, and
finances immediately. Please ask all you know to help. I will keep

Siestas, while we pray, please specifically remember a group of high school students from The First Academy (FBC Orlando) who arrived in Haiti on Jan 9 to deliver Christmas shoe boxes. From what i understand, everyone in that group is physically fine, but they are not sure of when or how they will be able to return home. They are staying/serving with New Missions. After two months of arduously trying to get details finalized for a medical mission trip to Haiti through our medical school, I received confirmation yesterday afternoon at 4:45 pm (actual time-stamp on the email confirming the dates).
The earthquake hit at 5:00pm.
Never, ever, again will I question how and why God works.
You better believe were are HAITI BOUND.
God of love for those still trapped under rubble...speak love to them...comfort them, snatch them from eternal death. So much unspeakable suffering...reveal Yourself tonight...cause darkness to flee and the Light of Love to touch the suffering. In Jesus name, AMEN
AMEN!! I am 16 years old and have been planning for about 2 months to go to Haiti over spring break. The pastors are thinking about cancelling the trip and that bdreaks my heart!! Haiti needs all the help they can get! PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!! If you don't have to give that's fine! Prayers are just as important!!
I am so thankful, God has placed this on your hearts. I to have watched the news with such a pit in my heart. All I know is God knows all, sees all and hears all and that He will with all our support and prayers going up for His people.

Thank you!! We just returned from a vacation to the Dominican Republic. Imagine our shock at finding that the little island we were on and enjoying had an earthquake! I know that Punta Cana wasn't affected by the earthquake, but it's more real to me. I can't explain it. It's as if, when I travel somewhere, I take a piece of the people home with me. They are more tangible to me. I can picture them and feel like I know them. They are no longer "those people over there". It's personal.
Anyway, all that just to say, I was feeling like you. Thank you for that last needed push to actively help. I want to just GO THERE. But money will have to do for now.

I just wrote a post about how my eight year old's heart responded to the devastation in Haiti and we immediately went to the Samaritan's Purse website to donate. His heart's response to the news made me fall in love with him all over again.
This is so excruciating--I can't stand it! My husband works at Compassion U.S. and found out a co-worker was staying in hotel that is now rubble. His wife can't seem to get any information about whether or not he was in there when the quake hit. Thousands upon thousands are feeling her same desperation, I know. Oh Lord, please have mercy on Haiti and those who have lost loved ones and those who are searching for their loved ones.
As a former disaster relief worker, I would like to encourage the siestas to donate their money to one of the faith based organizations. From my first hand experience, I can tell you that these organizations give a greater percentage of donations to the cause and provide a larger scope of aid than the Red Cross. The faith based organizations are usually the first to show up with help and the last to leave! May the Lord bless and minister through them mightily as they extend their hands of mercy in this devastation!

My heart has been breaking for that country since yesterday. Thanks for providing that information, Beth! I have been feeling such a need to help, but wasn't sure where to start.
Oh, and if you could pray please. My boyfriend, Jeff, is heading to the Dominican Republic on January 23rd with a church group for a missions trip. It makes me nervous, but I believe that God will be watching over them and protecting them in their travels and in their work. As much as I worry about his safety, this may be the best time for him to go and help those who may be hurting right now. They will be looking for a Savior, and I pray that Jesus will be a comfort to them at this time.

All night long at work we had the tv on CNN and they just kept showing heartbreaking images of the people of Haiti and it hurts my heart to see them suffer like that. They are in my prayers and thoughts. Kelly Stamps just did a post also on it and shared the text message donation to Red Cross that I just sent and it still doesn't seem like much, but I know that every little bit helps and if nothing else it's a very BIG blog world and lots of ladies are reading it!!

My heart just aches for these people. Our Compassion child that we have sponsored for the last three years lives there. I cry just thinking about how frightened he and his family must be. I would like to encourage you to add Samaritan’s Purse to your list of ministries. I know you support them, I worked at their table at a Living Proof Live event in Laramie last spring. They dispatched a team just hours after the quake to help with water, shelter, medical care, and other emergency needs. They will focus on medical help, shelter, clean water, and hygiene supplies.

Thank you for letting us know about the opportunity to "text" in some help to Haiti. We have adopted a little girl in Haiti through Compassion International and according to an email I just received from them, she is among those who are unreachable. It was a blessing to my heart to be able to give something, as small as it was. Payday is still a couple of days away, so putting it on our cell phone bill was brilliant. Thank you! Beautifully said. Haiti is on my heart always, but especially yesterday, today and many days to come. I'm heading down there on the 30th. I know God is performing miracles and has many more in store. Hopefully I'll be able to share some of those that I experience when I return. This is the perfect time to show that we love because He first loved us.

Wow ........... I'm still crying to my soul for our fellow humans who are suffering so in Haiti. And I did just what the Moore women are doing tonight...... I've prayed until I can't pray anymore and I gave money to the Red Cross and if I didn't already have responsibilities to tend to here at home, I'd be on a plane with some organization to get there and help somehow !!! I'm sure all of the Siesta's are feeling pretty much the same. God, take care of the living and embrace those who are with you tonight that didn't make it through the horror. Amen

Beth, I want to add to your voice to encourage our siestas, especially those who are struggling financially in reguards to giving. I can speak as someone whose husband has been out of work for almost a year now. God is faithful!!! He takes the littlest we give, in faith, and showers blessings on others as well as watching over us. Is it easy, not necessarily, but I can testify that God does amazing things. There are times when our hearts are move to give above our tithe and we've actually seen God give us, what we felt prompted to give, so we could pass it on to the person in need. Ministry compound takes earthquake damage-
Bill Glass, first went to Haiti in 1998. The extreme poverty grabbed his heart, and he's been back more than a dozen times. Now president of Haiti Outreach Ministries,( the ministry compound where he and his wife works in Port au Prince, Haiti, was severely damaged by the earthquake, but no one was hurt;As soon as the earthquake hit, he turned to his wife and said, "The complexion of what we're doing in Haiti has just changed.") said he received an e-mail from senior pastor and field supervisor Leon Dorleans advising him of conditions in three of the compounds in Port au Prince. "In Cite Soleil the entire walls of the compound are collapsed and the back of the medical building is down," Dorleans wrote. "I was at Blanchard when the quake hit and thank God, no one was injured at the compound." Dorleans said he could not get into his office because bookshelves had fallen and blocked the doors. He had to leave his car on a road and walk home because of debris blocking roads. He also said his wife slept on the street instead of in the house to avoid being injured if the building collapsed during an aftershock. Dorleans has spoken at the East Sumner Congregational Church, which supports Haiti Outreach Ministries. The Glasses said they were in Haiti in early December, ending a year in which the ministry helped repair 125 homes, some of which were damaged by the quake. "We are looking at many years to repair the damage done, which is on a scale with (Hurricane) Katrina," Bill Glass said. "We have to repair or replace the Blanchard schools, the Cite Soleil clinic and the walls." Haiti Outreach Ministries has a standing contingency fund and donations will be for immediate relief, "though rebuilding is loomingand enormous," he said.

One thing that encouraged missionaries there was that as they were traveling place to place to check on damage of churches and schools, in the quiet you could hear groups of christians singing praises to God...sweet sweet Spirit in that place. Miracles, yes! My small contribution has been made for those in need in Haiti. A dear siesta has a friend that has lost family members there and I am more than glad to help in anyway!

I have a friend whos Daughter is in Haiti and was when the quake hit. She wrote last night on facebook. Her name is Noelle Gonzalas. She is with a team of Missionaries on a Medical Missions trip. My compassion child is in Haiti. Her name is Efda. I chose Haiti because I have a friend who was a missionary there. My friend was recently moved by the IMB to the Dominican Republic to minister to Haitian refugees there. My missionary friend's name is Dawn. She is safe. Facebook can be a good thing! I look at my little girl's picture and I cry. Like Beth said Compassison has ways to help.

Blessings on all those who are able to give.We can all pray even if we can't help with money. We can pray that survivors are found,food and water reaches people,tent cities are set up quickly,along with the many emotional and spiritual questions that people will be having will be met.
As we donate for these precious people, the brevity of the situation needs to also be recognized. I listened to a link yesterday where Pat Robertson had a history lesson of sorts about Haiti. I do not know their history so am unable to refute any of his comments. They obviously need our financial support in these times, but they also need our prayers so desperately. God is the only answer and hopefully they will come to realize this.

Samaritan's Purse is another great organization to give to. I saw Franklin Graham on CNN stating what they needed. I wanted to give to an Christian organization that you know where your money is going and that shares the Gospel as well. Please pray for these people! Pray that God will turn evil for good! Also, last year when Melissa's Compassion International Bloggers group went to India, one of the bloggers posted a story of a young girl whose house is a tiny shack. The title of that article was something like,"And What's Your Problem?" That statement embedded in my heart and mind. Now whenever I see or hear of others in suffering, the Lord gently reminds me in a sweet, loving way: "and what's your problem?", to which I can always say, "nothing, Lord. Thank you." And then pray for their situation, instead of whining about mine.
I just received an email from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Rapid Response Team. They are already over in Haiti for relief efforts and are seeking donations.
Although we can't give much, what we can give is multiplied by the same Jesus who fed the 5,000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish.

I know some who would say harshly that this is something this country deserved because of the darkness that has come from there (the black magic, etc.). But recently in a Bible Study, I was asked the question, "What would you do if you were The Judge of the sin of mankind?" May I tell you that I without hesitation (knowing my own condition) replied, "There is NO WAY that I could extend the GRACE and MERCY my SAVIOR and LORD does!!!" YES, please pray for the RESCUE of physical lives! And, let us also remember, too that there are missionaries there and this is an opportunity for SOULS to be RESCUED as well!!! GOD IS ABLE!!!
You're right Beth. We are having those same conversations. As a nurse, I have done many medical/evangelical mission trips to that island-on the Dominican side- and treated Haitians as well. Oh, how I love them!!! I know they need medical care desperately on a normal day- and now this!! I nearly can't bear it. I will certainly give...and Lord willing, go help a medical team.

My husband and my 10 year daughter were 12 hours from boarding a plane that was headed to Haiti. They were to be serving with New Missions and First Orlando distributing shoe box gifts to thousands of children in need. Their team was entirely made up of dads and kids all around her age. Our church has a team currently in Haiti that is prayerfully coming back to the US today. We are praying for their safe return, the amazing people of Haiti, and counting our blessings today!
We'll be praying. We took up a donation at our church that will be given to one of those organizations.

We feel the same way you do Beth. Our Church supports two seperate missionaries in Haiti and are sending monetary donations to them. One of the Missionaries was stateside for some surgery that she needed. The other our Pastor has heard from and is safe. He is actively looking for his church members and their families. Please keep them all in prayer. I pray that Haiti seeks out our Lord and Savior at this time of suffering.
The unthinkable has happened, and we are witnessing the horror, right in front of our very eyes. I'm sure the reality is thousands of times worse than what we see over the TV. We cry out to the living God in concert for His grace and mercy to rise up in Haiti and save doomed lives. I've knelt in front of the TV in supplication and prayer. I'm sure that Christians around the world are crying out for God to do what only He can do. We cannot even imagine the horror and catastrophe that has overtaken the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. Christians are there, right in the midst, may they be sheltered and empowered by the precious Holy Spirit for impossible things, and supernatural provision. This could be an outpouring the like of which we have never witnessed in our lifetimes.
Crying out for His mercy and grace to help Haiti in her time of greatest need, and may we all in Siestaville dig deeper into our pocketbooks in compassion and care.

Beth, Thank you. Just this a.m. I was thinking that for those under the rubble right now I can pray for the hands and wisdom of those that are there. May God lead and guide them and give them the energy to pull precious lives from destruction. I have been to Haiti 3 times and just have to close my eyes to experience that land. Serving in ministry there has changed my life and I know I am not the only one. So even tho, Haiti has received much in aid through ministries, it has also been ground for which God has changed many hearts and lives of those who have served.

Over a year ago, I agreed with God that I would to go to Haiti (there is a group from my town in IL that goes every year) - I am more anxious than ever to get on that plane (we aren't scheduled to go until March). I love God's perfect timimg!! This country is DESPERATLEY poor, but look how God is going to draw attention to His people there, and maybe, just maybe, this country can be changed!
God is already working there (look how many Christian organizations were interviewed!) - may we adequately display His hands and feet.
Just a final note, Voodoo is a very REAL and PROMINENT part of their lives - VERY scary. They need to know that God is not a punisher, He is love.

Yes ~ sickened is the word. Last evening my husband and I sat down to catch the news with a warm bowl of apple crisp topped with vanilla ice cream. Comfort food. That comfort food turned to mush in our mouths as we watched the horror. It was then pushed away as we heard and saw the deep human suffering. Oh, how we need to leave our comforts and reach out to help.
A dear friend arrived in Haiti hours before the quake. We heard she is safe and ministering in the surrounding hills. She brought my wedding gown down to Haiti for the women in a community to share at their weddings. I was thrilled and humbled by the idea. Now I am numb and realizing needs at a completely different level.
Beth, girls, we so understand the sickness of heart, it has take my husband and I straight to our faces. Like you, restless, helpless...our emotions have run wild. Yet God has stood strong in the love for HIS people, and because of HIM and HIM alone, we were able to give most of our savings to Compassion through an earlier email they sent us in the night. God is SOOOO good, and it comforts out hearts to know HE IS going to do a miracle with what He has privileged us to 'give-away'. It's ALL His!!! God be with each and every one these hours. Susan/MI

Greetings to all! We have a mission team who has planned a trip to Haiti over the last several months. They were scheduled to leave on Tuesday, but their travel plans were delayed a bit due to the earthquake. They have received clearance and flight information and will be heading out to Haiti at 11:45am today. Their mission has drastically changed from the original direction. The comforting news, is that God anticipated the quake and their trip all along. He has no surprises and with all our prayers will provide! a friend of mine has a saying when we band together in prayer. she says we're praying "shield to shield to shield" - just like on the battlefields of old when the front line of warriors lined up and locked their shields side by side in front of them, while the rows of warriors behind them locked their shields side by side above them. this was to block the arrows from the enemy. paul knew what he was talking about when he said our shield of faith would extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one and when he wrote it right next to praying for all the saints. because it's not just about wielding our shields individually and alone. it's about us also standing and kneeling shield to shield to shield, praying for all the saints together. even though we can't see each other, and most of us have never met each other, we are indeed shield to shield in prayer for the people in haiti.

I will also pray to the Lord of the harvest that he will send workers into the field of Haiti. What a perfect time for the body of Christ to bring physical help as well as the hope of the gospel.
I'd just like to say, and it seems the perfect opportunity since all is quiet here, that I was introduced to your teaching ministry when my church did a "Loving Well" retreat.
I have been so thankful for my church because our pastor is down to earth and real. He'll repent in the middle of a sermon and is so honest. It helps us all to dare to be real and to dare to struggle and cry out to God.
So, I have been so thankful to find your teaching as well for the same reason. It is biblical, it is even dare I say *academic*, but so relevant.
Having been saved 33 years, I had become *religious* and had put those blinders back on. I am having a blast letting God yank them off!!! Thank you for being apart of his work on me!!

I sit here and watch the news and the horror of it is so overwhelming. Thank you for giving us several options to donate to the relief effort that we know are safe and reliable.

Beth, I have felt just like you. I texted a friend that works with children in Haiti telling her how helpless I felt. She told me that really prayer and financial help was all that we could do right now. The only people they are letting in right now is medical and releief workers. So, that's what my husband and I are going to do. WHAT WE CAN! I've been in much prayer for the sweet Hatians as well. I WISH I could even go over there and hug each mothers neck and take each orphan home with me, but I'm relying on God to be HUGE and to take care of each person over there.

Dear Beth, I just wnat to "run" on water to those dear precious people and help. But thank you for reminding me that I do not need to feel "help-less" but can be a instrument for the Lord, right from my own home as I bend the knee and pray. And open my wallet and give.
I was just watching the news this morning about this. I watched yesterday and cried over the losses. Today, I cried for humanity. It was so refreshing to see the many planes from countries all over the world rushing to the aid. There is still good in this world, and Katie needed to see that today. I continue to pray for those devistated in Haiti, and I pray for the salvation of them all.
Beth, thank you for this call to action. I do not think we can as believers shut our eyes and ears to the need. Our giving should be sacrificial, out of our need, which in every case including mine does not compare to the suffering in Haiti. With so many disasters happening on this earth I cannot help but ask God what is going on? Is the time alloted for earth and life as we know it running out? Shalom to you, and to Haiti and the precious brothers and sisters in action there.
I have a little boy that I sponser in Haiti, and to recieve an email to notify us they are trying to locate his whearabouts and stating words such as "possible death" and "homes and Compassion development centers may be totally destroyed" makes my heart weep and my gut wrench!! Thank you for posting this, I had no idea about texting to the Red cross...it's already done. Thank you my friends!

Beth, thank you so much for posting that information. My wife and I have been ferociously praying for the situation in Haiti. What a relief to know that there is an avenue for us to donate as well. A dear friend of ours is a native of Haiti but has lived in Louisiana for several years; but his family is still on the island. We've tried contacting him to check on their status but have not been able to reach him as I am sure he is in a whirlwind right now. Since we do not know their situation, we're not sure how to pray. I have been praying that if they have not been found then the Lord will remove all obstacles blocking the relief efforts from them. And if they are currently safe, I pray that the Lord will give them swift access to their families in the States so they may rest peacefully. Please join us in this petition to the Lord. Our friend's name is Jean Domercant (Jimmy to all of us in Louisiana).

This is a great reminder to each of us that something so small as a 10 dollar donation can make a difference. Sure, it may not seem like a lot by itself...but if each of us do it, we will quickly see, as if it were loaves and fishes, how the Lord will use it!
I would challenge each of you to consider this. It's my "coffee out" money this week...I can give that up.
How about posting this challenge to your friends on Facebook too? I challenged my friends and family to do just this...10 dollars to most of us is "doable"...let's be the difference!

Thanks for reminding us of our duty as Christians. I have donated and sent an email to all who teach at my school to do the same. The loss of the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and friends is so painful, no matter where you live. I will continue to pray with you Siesta.
The devastation in Haiti breaks my heart, makes me feel so helpless & spoiled! I start to pray & barely know what to say. Reminds me of Romans 8:26 "...We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."That brings me comfort to know even when I don...'t know what to say, the Holy Spirit intercedes on my behalf.
Thank you for posting this. I also wanted to leave a warning to give donations only to those organizations that you know are legitimate (Red Cross, Compassion, Salvation Army, etc.). During this disaster there will be sick people who invent charities to take your money. It's a very fallen world we live in.
