Longing for a Heavenly Country
by Melissa Moore
Do you ever have those days that you just feel sort of disillusioned by life? I mean, most of the time I feel content and satisfied with my life. After all, I have an incredible job that I absolutely love and an amazing family that I adore but every once in a while I get this nagging and empty feeling that something just isn’t quite right. I’m not talking about the kind of day when you are plagued by an argument you had with a good friend or family member or even the kind of day when you’ve dropped your car keys one too many times. I am talking about the kind of day when nothing in particular is wrong but, still, there is an overwhelming restlessness deep down in your soul. Then again, perhaps I am the only Christian who still experiences disheartening days when, in the midst of so much, I can’t figure out what is missing.
I think that this struggle may be due to the tension between living in the midst of an already but not yet kingdom. The tension of living in an already but not yet kingdom is not just theological in nature, for it plays out in everyday life experience. In one sense we already experience the realities of the kingdom of God but in another sense we still wrestle with the flawed kingdom of humankind. For example, we have been set free from the law of sin and death and so no longer have to carry the burden of guilt or the fear of everlasting punishment. Sometimes, however, the “not yet” nature of the kingdom is overwhelming. For all practical purposes we still fear physical death even though we know that we will rise with Christ on the final day to reign with him forever and ever. We still mourn, even though we now do so as those who have hope for final resurrection. We can rejoice in the liberating freedom that we have now in this life because of our forgiveness of sin and our identification with Christ. At the same time, however, we long to be rid of the sin that plagues us individually and the sin that plagues our world on an everyday basis. Though we have been fully redeemed, we have not yet experienced our redemption in full.
So I guess what I mean is that, even though I know full well that I am called to be an ambassador for Jesus Christ on this earth since the kingdom has not yet been fully consummated, every once in a while my soul is just flat restless. As I was reading Jesus’ farewell discourse to his disciples this morning (John 13-17), I couldn’t help but feel their pain. After washing his disciples’ feet, Jesus all at once tells them, “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come” (John 14:33). This is brutal news for the disciples who had spent countless mind-boggling and miraculous days with God himself! But Jesus, the ultimate comforter, then tells them, “Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you…I will come back and take you to be with me” (14:1-3). I don’t know about you, but even though I love my life and feel burdened to continue spreading the good news of the gospel, I can’t wait to see the place that Jesus has prepared for us. I can’t wait to see heaven opened with all its brilliance. And, most of all, I can’t wait for the presence of God to finally be with men; I mean, for him to actually dwell with us!
Sometimes life is just plain hard and it seems that the suffering switch has been turned on to the highest degree. Other times we are puzzled by relationships or difficult job circumstances. And, then, there are other times that something just feels a bit off deep down in our hearts. Nothing in particular has gone wrong. Maybe it is quite the opposite. Maybe everything has gone right and that haunting, restless feeling still lurks behind and mocks us! What is that about? Aren’t Christians supposed to be content in every situation? Joyful at all times? I find it interesting that the same man who urged us to be content and joyful in every situation also told us that he struggled with desiring to depart and be in the Lord’s presence. Though he found it necessary to press on and do the Lord’s work on earth, he said, “To live is Christ and to die is gain…I am torn between the two” (Philippians 1:21-26). Maybe it isn’t so bad, then, to recognize every once in a while that we are truly longing for a better country, a heavenly country, one that is being prepared for us by the nail-scarred hands of the resurrected Christ.
Let us hold fast to the promise that we will reign with King Jesus, in perfected, holy, and unblemished resurrected bodies, forever and ever in the new kingdom and let us rejoice that our names are written in heaven (Luke 10:20).
“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come”
Revelation 4:8.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Melissa,
I had one of those days just recently. Thank you for so eloquently putting it into perspective.
Blessings,
Sherri
Thank God I am not the only one!! I so often have those days of restlessness and I wonder where it comes from. Am I fulfilling my God given purpose in life? Am I totally missing the boat spiritually? Am I giving it my all?
I needed those words today so thank you Melissa!! I will be "munching" on what you have to say for awhile.
Your writing reminds me so much of my sister who is also a seminary grad now teaching at Jerusalem College. I miss her!
I think we forget easily the inspirational and miraculous things that happen in our lives and in our country. So much of our media is filled with scandal and shame that we grow weary with the decline of Christianity. We question if we make a difference pursuing Jesus in our daily lives amidst the sad, failing and sinning world as we know and live it here. I guess the best thing we can do is to often remind one another that it is okay to hope for more, and that when the time comes, our Heavenly home will become reality, just as you have expressed. Praise be to God!
girl! we love you!
I believe I know how you feel, Siesta Melissa. When I feel like this, I think of the precious Words in 2 Corinthians Chapter 5-"Meanwhile we groan..." I find myself using that expression over and over these days. And I imagine I'll be using it over and over till Jesus comes back or takes me home.
As C.S. Lewis so wisely put it- "We ought to give thanks for all fortune; if it is 'good,' because it is good, if 'bad' because it works in us patience, humility, and the contempt of this world and the hope of our eternal country."
I have been listening to the song "Glory" by Nichole Nordeman & Selah today. "Come quickly, we want to see Your glory." How appropriate I should come home and read your blog. You are not alone for your fellow sojourners linger beside you awaiting our "blessed hope."
Amen, Lord Jesus, come!

Melisa,
I am so feeling what you are saying. My spirit has had that same sense the past couple of days. We had a wonderful holiday with our families and then my Mother-in-Law passed on to be with Jesus. There has been a lot of loss in our families the past couple of years and I told someone the other day that I just feel dislocated; not lost, but separated from those we love.

WOW, Melissa!! I thought I was the only one that felt that way sometimes - like something is "off" or "missing". Sometimes I can feel this way, like you said, after everything has gone right - a great time with God, a great time with family, everything great but I don't feel that way. This doesn't happen often but it is noticable when it does. What a great picture you painted with your words - though we are fully redeemed we haven't yet experienced our redemption in full. You are deep girl - I like it!!
I try to remember to stay rooted in what I know is true and not go on how I feel all of the time.
Thanks again, Moore girls, for being so real and honest. There is a freedom in that for the rest of us who feel like we are the "only ones" sometimes.
Thank you God for being our joy, strength, hope, comfort and our everything. You are the ONE, TRUE, CONSTANT, CONSISTENT, FAITHFUL FATHER in our lives!!
Thanks for sharing, Melissa!
Thanks Melissa!
Melissa,
You nailed exactly how I feel a good part of the time. I have the CD (the one on the "Patriarchs") and that song (Abraham's song) that talks about Abraham having all that man can want, but yet he still longs for more brings me to tears most of the time. It is unexplainable, but yet so real. You and your family will never know how much God has used your ministry to change my life in a PROFOUND WAY.
I have so much love for all of you!!!
I so look forward to LPM's ministry !!!
Dear Melissa,
Thank-you for sharing your thoughts, I think as the Holy Spirit comes to live in us, we begin to have a conscienceness that transcends our current sorrow or joy. There is more so much more than our individual lives can ever take in being done in the Spirit across the world daily. It sounds to me like you have the gift of an intercessor in prayer, let this restless sorrow and longing draw you into prayer, you may not know for who or what but the Spirit is calling you. God has a story to write in your life precious girl, Shalom
Whoo!
I just got goose bumps reading that. I think it's kind of like Romans 8:18 and on. Our "future glory." I get the groaning thing! I'm ready for the hope that is unseen. I mean, sometimes I really do groan...:-) It's crazy realizing that we can't fathom life without sin, but we'll have Life and no sin!
Thanks for the post! Father is good to gently smack me and remind me that this day and this life are but a reflection in the mirror of what I'm truly yearning for!
Incredible! Bravo! Amen!
Amen! Come Lord Jesus come!
Beautifully written, Melissa!
Melissa:
I must say that I definitely would agree with all that you said. And no you are not alone. I know for myself I have days like that. Where things just don't seem right yet there is nothing wrong. What blessing to think of days in that way. I find myself just chalking it up to being almost 50. I know that is the easy way out. I so much desire to find God and the deep things of God in the everything of everyday. I mean so much of the time it seems that life just gets in the way and I just go through it with out much thought. Bad huh. Yea I have quiet times with God and yea I have to fight to not let it be a time where it is something to be done that I can cross of my to do list. Ok so I have just given to much info. Sorry about that. Now just for the record one of my greatest desires is to have great passion for God and the things of God. You know like your mom does. So many of us Christians live on the fence of mediocrity and think that if we have passion for God we have gone way to overboard. But I believe God wants to be greatly passionate for him and have great longing to be with Him. All this while living in this world, talk about a collision of perspectives. Kim B in Az.
Oh, Melissa. This is truly beautiful and so eloquent. I so know what you are talking about and love how you put a finger on what it may be that just stirs our soul on days that should otherwise be filled with peace and content hearts.
Thank you so much for sharing that insight.
You have a wisdom about you that inspires me on a daily basis to be a "better" Christian.
I know the feeling of not-quite-right you speak of but have only had those feelings since my surgery. I guess I attribute my heart probe to be the desire to reach everyone right now and tell them what a rich blessing awaits us if we will follow Jesus. But with Christmas around the corner it is hard not to get excited about what everlasting freedom will feel like and still have feelings of wanting it for everyone sooner than later.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. They are appreciated and retained. Have a blessed day.
yes I have had those days, and now that I am getting older it seems to me it is a longing to be rid of the worldly foolishness and go to that deep unto deep place to bask in the glory of the Lord. To know him and experience him in ways that I never have. Longing for something we have never known. It really is not a bad place to be.
Amen, Sista!!! What a great word you shared with us today! I can't even add to what you said b/c it was so right on with how a lot of us feel! Thank you so much for sharing and being real! That's what I like best about this blog (and the blogs of other people I read on a daily basis)!
Amen, Melissa, and no you aren't the only one. One of the aspects of our kingdom life that I dwell on and long for most often is - NO SIN. How I long for the day when I will never sin again, nor will I or anyone else suffer the devastating effects of someone else's sin.
See ya there! :o)
That is so interesting! I have had those days before myself -- usually when I'm alone, with more time to reflect than usual. I find myself asking the Lord, "You've given me so much, and I'm so happy and blessed...how can I possibly still feel that something is missing?" It's so nice to be able to understand some of the reason for that! I, too, long for heaven my sister!
Melissa, I haven't gotten to respond to your blogs yet, but I thank you for your precious heart. I share your love for exegesis I am just a stay at home mom learning by default as I study the word, but I delighted to know your heart beat that direction. I look forward to journeying with you as we are pilgrims and longing together. I have been restless too and I thought I was insane. OK maybe that is too strong a word, but certainly displaced satisfies the thought. Love you guys, oh and as your mother blogged a bit, I am thrilled you have someone you are serious about, I bless you as you walk that path( she smiles) Dear sweet sister in Christ! I love you! Tiffany
How perfect timing for your words. For the past few days I have been struggling with a need to be comforted, even though I didn't know that was what I was wanting. Looking for that comfort in food, TV, catalogs, music. Nothing fulfills. I hate to say even Bible readings. I wanted to hear what I wanted to hear. Even today, I cried to Him about wanting to leave this world to be with Him. As I wrote in my journal, I realized that God has allowed me the need to pray for those who are really struggling for His comfort. May we all join together to pray for the Comforter to be real, especially during the Christmas and winter season.
Thank you Melissa, AJ, and Beth for your ministry and for this blog.
I do understand what your saying, but you can say it with the best words.I have no dout your doing what you should but we all have those days no matter whom they are.Yes sometimes its harder when things are going so right.I cant wait to see Jesus.I do know news in this world some times just gets to us. I say come Lord come. God bless love sister in Christ Victoria
Come dear sweet Lord Jesus. Melissa, you put words to feelings I've had and couldn't describe. Thank you my sister for sharing your journey with us. I was struck today by Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." How awesome is that? And then for it to be face to face? I can hardly contain myself. Oh the glory~ the glimpse we have from earth of the unimaginable eternity that awaits those who fear Him. The already not yet...the Hope of Glory! Love you sister. Love in Jesus, Kim in PA
Oh Melissa - I sooooo know what you were speaking about . . . I remember a song that I believe Travis wrote that we heard at "The Patriarchs" on a Tuesday night Bible study - "I'm longing, longing, longing - for a place that I can not find . . ."
This "God content" and deepening relationship with our Father brings a "dis-content" with this world - not people, just this world . . . we are destined for His arms and as we experience Him and draw closer in our relationship with Him, that longing increases I have found . . . we long for that ultimate rest that will only be realized when we are all with Him.
We long for "another time and another place . . ." (Old Sandi Patti CD that was all about our journey . . .)
Thank you for sharing today. I pray this "longing" only increases in each of us because as it does, we are being transformed into His image and we are knowing Him ---- may we never cease to be looking to the eastern sky!
Maranatha!
Melissa,
I love to read your comments. It is so true what you said. Sometimes I think about being raptured while in the middle of my workday(I teach school) when I'm up to my ears in paperwork, problems, conferences, meetings, etc. Won't that be glorious!!
Keep up the good work!!
Melissa,
Thank you for your writing today. It gave me much to think on and a timely reminder of what is yet to be for us who are living in this world and waiting for our Heavenly Father to come and take us home! That will be glory! I long for that! With the struggles that we face it keeps me focused on His promise! Thank God for His wonderful goodness!
Amen! An awesome word from a gifted woman like her mom! Thank you for sharing! I feel that as I just returned home from Jerusalem and stood on the mount of olives! We wait for His return, but we don't wait in vain...hallelujah! :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can relate to those same feelings of unrest. Some days it is hard to read the news- all the violence in the world today. It makes me long to be in the place that we will no longer suffer or see anyone else hurt, our heavenly home. When I get discouraged, I know I need to be in God's word. He always brings me comfort. This blog has been such a good source of fellowship for me, to read what other sisters are experiencing, and being able to know I am not alone! Keep up the good work.
How fitting your words are for me today. The restlessness I feel is, in part, due to 'those who have gone before me' as it is the third anniversary of my mom's homegoing. Maybe we are sometimes allowed to feel this "out of sorts" feeling so we don't get so wrapped up in our earthly bodies & earthly home.
Sweet siesta, you're about to make this proper Southern Baptist have herself a shoutin' fit!!! In fact, hang on, I need to run some laps....OK, I'm back! Thank you Jesus for preparing a place for us and placing the longing for your kingdom in us!! Thank you!!
Thank you Melissa for reminding me that this world IS NOT my home!! In fact, I'm gonna go run me a few more laps of praise!!!

Such restlessness belongs to all of us as Christians, and you articulate the struggle beautifully. I have the joy of worshiping in a church that is evangelical, charismatic (in that we believe in all of the gifts of the Spirit and in their Biblical application), and liturgical. Because of this we celebrate the season of Advent as we prepare for Christmas. It is a time to reflect upon Christ's entrance not only into the world but also into our lives. Some days we don't feel that presence, and some days I feel like the new Casting Crowns song "As Far as the East is from the West" where Mark Hall sings "Today I feel like I'm just one mistake away from You leaving me this way." However, in the midst of such chaos, at perhaps the busiest time in that era of history (the spread of the Roman Empire and the taxation), Jesus came to bring peace, hope, joy, love -- salvation. And in the midst of the days where I feel like I am sliding away, I remember that God is holding onto me. We aren't meant to be too comfortable in this world as it is only our temporary home. Perhaps these restless days are made to make us thankful for the ones where we feel the immeasurable presence of the Risen Lord. I pray you will feel that presence, but more importantly, that we will all learn to cling to the truth and be grateful that God reminds us from time to time this home is temporary.
Do I ever! You aren't the only one... and I can't tell you how glad I am to find out I'm not the only one who struggles with the paradox of "not yet."
Sometimes the world looks so pale and lifeless in comparison to what I know is waiting... it isn't depression or a stressful week (and I've had plenty of those!)... it's just this feeling that I don't quite belong here but can't leave until the work is finished.
I could be wrong, but I believe that Christians are supposed to be content with the things we have been given but we will never truly be content with the world we live in.
Melissa...have you read, "The Beautiful Ache" by Leigh McLeroy? It rocks. It's a great read. :-)
COME ON NOW. If I had a white handkerchief, I'd be wavin' it right about now. All up in the front pew. :-)
Phenomenal post, Melissa.
He used you in my life today, Miss Melissa. Isn't that just the best? To be used by Him? It's the closest thing to settled that we'll feel on this fallen earth. Be encouraged, and write on!
Marti Sullivan
What a wonderful post.
Oh, Melissa, you are speaking to me. I was just telling someone today that some days my entire body and soul aches for the Lord to return RIGHT! NOW! so that there will be no more suffering on this earth.
But until then I cling (so tightly!) to the Truth and to His Promised Word.
Blessings,
K
Oh, man.....thank you, thank you, thank you!!! So well said.
There are times when I feel as though I can live from "crisis to crisis" much easier, as God is so close and His peace is incomparable to anything this life has to offer. Doing the "day to day" is challenging....then I feel abnormal...like there is something wrong with me for feeling this way....Living for Christ is sometimes harder than dying for Christ...
For me, that is when God gently reminds me that He has given me the spirtual weapons to fight the battle that rages around me daily, and in this season of my life, He wants me to "get in the battle"..I am to glorify God and as John Piper says, "God is most glorified in me, when I am most satisfied in Him".
or its the "end of another bible study" blues!!!!!
Thank you, Melissa. That so hits home with me. When I feel that way, I never quite understand why. I am glad that I am not the only one to have those feelings.
Amen, Melissa!
Just did the last session to Jesus the One and Only with my Bible study group. He will come back--hallelujah!
Maranatha--come quickly, Lord Jesus!
Joanne
P.S. So fun to hear from you!
James 1:2-4- He talks about rejoicing in our challenges, and while I TRY to do this, it can be hard...I too long to be in that heavenly place sometimes, away from the suffereing and earthly baggage we deal with here. I can totally relate to this post. Thanks for sharing your heart with us today. Sometimes I feel "ungrateful" for wanting this earthly journey to end soon, but dang, it can be HARD!! Great to see you posting Melissa- we love to hear from you! Have a great week!
Amen.
What else needs to be said. :)
Anticipating HIM!
steph.
Wow Melissa that was so good...it blessed me SO MUCH..can't thank you enough for sharing that!!
I have felt the exact same way!
Val
Hey Melissa,
What a great reflection! You have articulated something that I have been feeling off and on during this season of my life. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. :)
Your mom once compared our transition from earth to heaven to the act of taking off one coat and replacing it with another (I think it was the Daniel study?). Well, on days like the one you described, I get an urge to strip off this coat and move on to the next one, if you know what I mean.
But, lately as I have been asking God to prepare my heart for Christmas, He has given me a whole new perspective on those longings for a heavenly country. In a strange way, longings like those give us a glimpse of what our precious Savior gave up to come to earth in the lowly form of a baby to save us. What he and the Father must have felt just prior to the Incarnation! He emptied himself of his equality with God to take on the form of a human body constrained by the very restlessness you describe. That's what's been getting me through the day like the one you described!
Love,
Missy
I know exactly how you feel. I'm at a point now where I'm bogged down with work and family and while I want to be faithful and finish the work He has for me, I can't help but long for the day when I will be with Him face to face and be able to rest in His glory.
Oh, Melissa. Your post really resonates with me today. I've felt so homesick for heaven lately and long for Jesus to come and whisk me away. I want him to hold me and tell me stories. I want to see my grandpa and grandma, dear friends, and MY SON again.
I think that restlessness you speak of is the inconvenience of living out of a suitcase until we get to go to our real homes. It can't come soon enough, can it?!
Thanks for your words!
Amen and amen! I thought I was the only one who had those kinds of days! ;) I can't wait for that day when we will be with him. One of my favorite verses is: Rev. 21:3
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God."
This blog ROCKS! Thanks everyone!!
As I'm sure you'll hear again and again, you are NOT the only Christian that feels this way sometimes! I, too, have a wonderful life...not perfect, certainly, but wonderful just the same. I think that the unsettled, restless feeling that we feel sometimes is a reminder that we're not there yet, that there are SO MANY OTHERS that need to be told what awaits. If we didn't feel the restlessness, I think we would get complacent and comfortable; we would be less motivated to stay focused on the goal and finish the race well.
Beth, Amanda, Melissa,
Thank you all for the hard work you do on this blog spot. It is truly a source of blessing for many people including myself. If you choose not to display this on the site I will understand. If you don't please have all of your praying friends to lift her up.I have a daughter who is 19, she is the sweetest thing you have ever met. Always bubbly, always the life of the party. She had made a commitment to remain a virgin until marriage. Her sister was married and praise God she made the same commitment and kept it until her wedding day. Well a few months ago my youngest daughter had her virginity taken away from her. She has not dealt with this very well. On Thursday she will meet with the attorneys to go forward and press charges against this young man. We want God's will done in this situation. That is why I am asking all of our sistas to pray for her Thursday at 9:00 a.m.. I know that with God's help she can make the right decision.
I can't begin to tell you what an inspiration your letter was to me. I have been feeling that restless feeling since yesterday, although mine has a reason behind it. I was a smoker. A few months ago I tried to fast cigarettes for a day, I failed. This convicted me of the fact that cigarettes had control of me, had become an addiction and an idol in my life. I had been wrestling with God over this for the last year. I started a weaning off program 11 days ago. I am down to 5 cigarettes a day with 13 days to go. It has been hard. I had prayed for deliverance but the Holy Spirit had told me that it would not be through deliverance that I would be set free. Since beginning this journey to complete freedom God has given me revelation after revelation. I now have empathy and compassion for those suffering from addictions that I didn't have before. I have had to admit that I am a drug addict(legalized drug, but still a drug). There are many people at work and church who are watching me walk this walk. Yesterday and today have been the most difficult so far. I have wanted to give up, I've broken down, and cried out to God to help me. Your letter Melissa has inspired me to press in and press through with Him by my side. The mere fact that He has written my name in heaven, is reason enough for me to not give up. He never gave up on me, and I will not give up on Him. Thank you Melissa, for sharing your thoughts and allowing God to use your words to give me the strength to not give up.
Be Blessed,
Deborah
Melissa- thanks for this thought- provoking post. I often think on just this topic...
Two years ago a physician at Cleveland Clinic told me that based on my neurological symptoms there was no diagnosis other than ALS for me. That was a 3-5 year death sentence.
I couldn't so much as look at my three children (ages 5,3,1)for three weeks without sobbing.
Things shifted for me when I examined this very concept. It became less about a diagnosis... more about CHRIST! About who He is- today!
Thankfully, my physician was incorrect. I have neurological lyme disease... and though some days still consist of a battle- my prognosis is much better.
I try to live every moment now being and doing all HE wants me to be/do. Sometimes that is service, sometimes obedience, sometimes just resting in Him.
I love Him.So So So Much Melissa. And I love that you, Amanda, and Beth do to.
Amen Sweet Siesta...enjoyed reading this so much. You are wise beyond your years.
blessings
Amen, siesta! You are not the only one. We've been studying faith-based suffering in our Sunday School classes this quarter and the only "answer" we've found is that it will not be over until we go HOME! Lord, come quickly!
I dont think I have ever understood something so clearly when someone is describing a feeling. Sometimes you feel like your explaining but people just arent getting it exactly. As I read this blog I actually could feel in my spirit exactly what you were saying. I have felt that way a lot but just always ignored it thinking it's just me. Thanks for your honesty.
Amen...all creation groaning...and me, too--for Jesus!
Love to read your heart in words.
Many Blessings upon you, favored child of God!
Holly
Thank you Melissa for that thought and insight! It is ironic that you write what you do b/c I have felt the same way over the last few months. There has been an overwhelming desire to go on home and be with the Lord forever, but then a pull to stay due to so many of my loved ones that still need to accept Him as Savior. Some day sweet siesta, some day!! God Bless you!
:)
Amy Hagedorn
Amen, Melissa. Thank you.
Melissa, beautiful!! I want to comment on how much you all mean to me. Sharing the family moments, new spiritual insights, funny "spittle" times and so much more. I am your mother's age and at your age, my sister's ex-husband murdered her and my mother and disabled my father. Who a few years later, joined his family. I chose not to marry and have my own children since I was raising my sister's. I married after my sister's children were grown. My niece's 2 boys call me "gran-ma A." A true joy!!! However, I miss my birth family...I have experienced such joy sharing in yours. God has so truly blessed you all with so many gifts. You then turn around and bless me, and others, by your sacrifical love to the Siestas!! You share your time, share your heart and share your home and families. It means so much to me, and others like, that never had or no longer have the joy of our family. I deeply cherish the gifts you all - Melissa, Amanda and Beth - so freely give. May God's riches overflow to the ministry and your family. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing...I have actually felt exactly this way today...so it was nice to hear someone else did as well!! I also enjoyed hearing about your thanksgiving activities...and would love to know more about Colin.....
I was just thinking about this very thing today right as I picked my children up from the bus stop. Even in that exciting moment of having my kids back home and hugging their precious necks, I noticed that there was a deep longing within my soul. A feeling familiar and easily recognizable.
I long for the return of Jesus. I find myself fasting and praying on a regular basis for His glorious appearance. But, until then or until He takes me home...I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.Phil 3:14
Blessings,
Brittnie
OH, WOW! That is exactly how I feel today. I didn't know others felt it, too. I have never heard anyone speak about it. Yes, I am blessed, but something seems amiss. Thank you.
Eyes full of tears....how well you put feelings into words. Bless you, Melissa.
I've had those days of longing, days of the suffering switch turned on, days of trying to shove the square peg into the round hole, days of wondering why this.... One day our faith will be sight--Praise You, Jesus!
Melissa,
Your message speaks directly to my heart this day. My dear Mother loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and strenth, and yesterday morning she left us to go be with Him for eternity. It comforts us to know that she is seeing and experiencing glorious things that we can barely fathom, and we look forward to the day that we are all reunited in Heaven.
Blessings to you,
Lany
Yes...come Lord Jesus!
Good one, Melissa. Thanks.
Thanks for this post, Melissa. It's so relevant to my life right now.
My heart echo's yours - Come, Lord Jesus, Come!
Melissa,
WOW, I can so relate to that. I feel that so much. I am raising four children, and there are moments that I struggle with the sin they will face, and how I want Jesus to come now, and with knowing my calling is to raise them in His Word. I totally understand what you are saying. Thank you for saying it. Press on!
Oh yes Melissa, I know exactly what you are talking about.
Perfectly worded Melissa. You put into words what so many of us have felt but can't express. I was planning on speaking tomorrow night to my Bible study ladies about perseverence in their walk, recognizing that it's tough at times...but there's a promise ahead. This fits so perfectly that I think I will share it with them. Thank you.
Ditto. I totally understand what you're talking about. It happens to me almost on a daily basis. Of course, I'm really unhealthy (emotionally) but I'm getting better. Or at least I hope I am. I've been in recovery for 2 years! I better be improving or I'm going to get really mad!
Amen, Amen, Amen! I love reading this blog and particularly love seeing how close you girls are with your precious mother. My sister and mom and I are super close and after spending 11 days together, just the three of us, in Italy this summer only reinforced the special bond we share. So I am writing to say "Thanks You" for this blog and for all that you all do with LPM. I have done several of Beth's studies and have loved them all! I also wanted to see if I could send you some of my cards. I am an artist and mother of four in Charlotte, NC. The Lord called me to use my talent to paint with scripture. It has been such a joy to see what He has dne to bless this adventure! My company is called Multiple Blessings, named for our four children and each card is a print of my original watercolor. (www.multipleblessings.net if you want to see it) I also have Fill In The Blank Thank You notes for kids with scripture, Christmas photo cards and Gift Tags, and other Christian products. I would love to send your family a sampling to enjoy to say thanks for all that you do. Can you e-mail and let me know the best place to send this? Many thanks again for touching so many lives through LPM. I would love to know when and if Beth plans a trip to Charlotte or somewhere nearby...I would love to hear her speak in person.
In Christ,
Caroline
Melissa,
I do so understand what you are saying...I can tell you that this past year (since May 31st) our family life has been under the hardest trial of our entire lives...Sometimes I want to say "Come quickly, Lord Jesus" but there are still so many that I want to take with me.....So HE SAYS, MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT....I must labor until His Perfect Will is accomplished in this earth.....Our son has had a brain tumor that has kept us on our knees; but you know what??? What did I expect? Aren't we to rejoice in the "fiery trials" to Look forward to that coming City??? I refuse to give in to the enemy that would say, "Miracles do not happen today". I can tell you that they DO.....We have witnessed them and Praise God He is still on the throne and looking out for all our needs so just Rejoice....He is so worthy of all our Praise whatever the situation....Melissa, You have a heart for God and He will give you the desires of your heart...Rejoice for He is with you......Thank you for sharing your heart....
Nancy
Oh Melissa,
You are so right. I often think of the very scriptures you quoted when I am feeling unsatisfied with this world. Just little things, like wanting to improve my home or preserve family memories (by scrapbooking) seem overwhelming at times and I think - will I even be here in 15-20 years to enjoy these things? I am longing for a heavenly home! Thank you for the reminder.
Kristen
All I can say is..WOW. How incredible that you were able to pen the exact way I feel at so many different times. (I thought it was just hormones or I was losing my mind. LOL) It is a gift to have this deep longing, knowing there is so, so much more beyond what we have in this world. You brought tears to my eyes, just reading your post. It is having this heartache that just won't go away. Aching for home, for those who may never go home and wondering if God aches for us in this same way. Do you think He does? Thanks for sharing, what a beautiful thing to have such a sweet sister in Christ, even though we have never met.
Your sister,
Cindy
Oh, my dear Melissa,
No, you are not the "only one" who feels this way at times, that is for sure.
As I was just E-mailing a sister in Christ, I am so glad that Jesus is always with us, and even when we cannot pray for ourselves, that He will intercede for us. [Hebrews 7:24-25]
And, if there has ever been a time in my life in which I honestly simply pray that Jesus would come back to get us who are in Christ
"right now", it has been over these past several months.
It seems as if "everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong" in my immediate family, as well as in my extended family. Within just these past 4 months, my Dad, my cousin Harry, and my 2nd cousin, Terry, have all been diagnosed with aggressive forms of cancer, all of the sudden. And, if that isn't enough, I have been having involuntary movements, and weakness in my muscles that are not easily diagnose-able conditions, and yet they cause me pain and cause me to have a very difficult time finding a job that I can handle...
However, I honestly feel that it has caused me to realize "on the hot pavement [mind you, though, it is actually "freezing pavement" at this moment in time up here- at 19 F, with a wind chill of 11 F - ha!] of real life", that GOD REALLY IS GOOD, and really DOES CARE FOR ME/US, and LOVES ME/US beyond any earthly comparison.
As, when I wake up each morning, I have come to the realization that I have no other choice but to beg the Lord to help me get out of bed many days, and I know that I NEED HIM, to help me to simply get through my day, sometimes moment by moment. And, I have also come to realize that I am SO grateful for my family and close friends [face to face, E-mail, and Lifeway Forum sisters]. And, along with our sweet Savior, I know that these dear people have been interceding on my/our behalf on a regular basis; and that is nothing short of a miracle from God; true friends that I may not even meet until we all get to Heaven; what a beautiful gift, and I thank Him for them every day...
And, ever since I went to your Mom's "Beloved Disciple" study in Houston from January to March of 2003, while I lived down there, I will never forget the parts in it where she wrote about and talked about the book of Revelation where God speaks to John about what Heaven looks like, and how that even now, we can simply choose to "lay our burdens down at Jesus' feet"... [I try my best to do that daily.] And, I must be very visual, too, as your Mom appears to be, as all of those words came to life for me; describing the brilliant colors, the 24 elders, and His Throne, and the flashes of lightning all around it...
Oh yeah, I wanna be there, too. But, I know that He will only come when Father God orders Him to come down, and I know that He will only allow me to come to Him [through death] when the time is "just right"...
And, so, instead of begging Him simply "to take me Home" during difficult trials, as I did for a little while after my salvation; I choose to ask God each morning please help me through every moment of my day, and to help me to see the Godstops [Savoring the Observable Presence of God; from "Believing God"] in my every day life. And, having lived in the Chicago area for a while yourself, I'm sure that you saw some of the most beautiful colors on the trees in the Fall, and I have been trying to cherish every little thing that He shows and teaches to me, whether it be through nature, through church or a Bible study, or through just sensing His Loving Presence surrounding me, I just want to get to know Him more and more and more ...
In Christ's mighty Love,
Jennifer O.

Melissa, how often I have felt what you described and just thought I was a "bad" Christian because I felt such a restlessness when I KNEW GOD was blessing my socks off. Now I see it is a longing to be with the One who is blessing me. What a different meaning it all has now. I can call it "homesick" now instead of ungratefullness.
Thank you soooo much!

Hi, Melissa,
So good to read your writing. I've read the book, Things Unseen, which touches on some of the things you have said. The basic idea of that book is that God has put eternity in our hearts and it's that longing for eternity that makes us restless even when life is at its best. If we look at it in that light, we can rejoice when we feel like this because it proves our hearts truly belong to Christ. :o)
Wooooo! Bring it! I have been feeling this dis-ease you describe for the past few months. It is often hard to be in that place. Thanks for giving voice to it in such a powerful way.
Hey Melissa,
Thanks for your comments and honest longings. I often feel the same way; almost guilty for "wanting something more" when I have been walking with Jesus for some time now and have heard that as believers we should be content/happy. Then I read a lot of John Eldredge's writings and in his book, The Journey of Desire, he speaks directly to this angst. He quotes Pascal (which I won't type all of it), but in a nutshell (and much less poetic) he says that man is so great that his greatness is in knowing that he is miserable.....the "miseries of a dethroned monarch". I love that phrase. We are not what we were meant to be. "Should a king in exile pretend he is happy there? Should he not seek his own country? His miseries are his ally; they urge him on." He then talks about Romans 8:18 -25. Well, I could go on and on, but you'll have to read the book! It's one of my favorites...Thanks for all you do; hang in there! It's great to hear from you!
Much love,
Cindy R.
Thank you, Melissa for this amazing post! It just goes to show... The apple doesn't fall far from the tree! You are such a blessing and I look forward to getting to know you better through this blog!
Much love,
Angie xoxo
That was Awesome Melissa! Thank you! Gosh I have those days ALL the time! I had never really thought about it like that! That makes so much sense!
It is so funny..I just watched the 7th DVD in Believing God today where your Mom talked about this ministry being your families heritage! I have had that on my heart all day long... then I just smiled when I read the blog post! God certainly has set you and Amanda apart for something special! We are blessed to reap some of the benefits! I am thankful to God for you and your family!
God Bless! Emmy : )
Thank you so much for your letter and no I don't think you are alone in what you are feeling. You have a wonderful way of describing exactly what I am enduring right now. Thank you so much for sharing and please don't ever stop! Blessings to you!
Love,
Lori Wright
P.S. I am currently doing the series A Womans Heart and I am learning so much and I am falling deeper in love with the God who created me and you. Thank you all for the good work you are doing for Christ. May you be richly blessed by HIM!
WOW! This is SUCH a timely reminder for me on so many levels. May God continue to stir in you this longing and bless you with SUCH a gift of writing. Thank you for sharing your heart - Sunshine
you put into words what the silences in my heart can't...
thank you :)
Melissa,
An apple doesn't fall far from the tree and you, my dear, have followed in the footsteps of your mom and big sister. But in your own unique way. God has given you a tremendous gift. Oh, to have been your age and been that honest with myself about what I really felt. But instead felt like I had to live the perfect Christian life in my own strength and fell flat on my self righteous face. Keep up the transparency, the searching, the love for God's word that is so obvious. You help encourage us older (not too old though) women to just keep it real. Thanks for your words of truth to us and sharing a great insight.
Love, Beth
Amen Girl!
That restlessness in my heart brings a spark of hope. A hope and a dream about a land that is there right now. A river that runs clear before the great and mighty throne.
How I long to see His face.
Come Lord Jesus COME!
I hope Holly reads this she could really use it right now.
Melissa, thank you for articulating what my soul has been feeling. Surrounded by loving family and blessings beyond words, I still feel that void, a feeling of separation. I am learning to understand what that place of emptiness really means and to not feel guilty for recognizing the natural longing to be in the presence of my Jesus.
Hi Melissa!!
What a breath of fresh air to read your post today. Thanks for sharing your heart and Gods word to help encourage us all.
I have to admit that I struggle with that at times too. But when I feel like I'm getting bogged down by it. I pray, read Gods word and then dream about our lives dwelling with our Creator. When ever I do those three things, the result is like a spiritual I.V. :)
I wonder if part of your restlessness (not that your looking for a reason why....)comes from the fact that you all just got back from a beautiful, refreshing, family time in Gods wonderful creation in the mountains. It's like you can't hardly experience that kind of majesty without it inspiring thoughts of heaven. WOW!!! How much more AMAZING it will be to see all that our Father has for us! I can hardly wait some times!!
Come Lord Jesus!!! :)
Blessings to you and to all at Living Proof. Keep up the tremendous work.
And Thank you Father for giving us such a multitude of witnesses for encouragement, love and support You are ABSOLUTELY GENIUS!!!
Melissa,
I so needed to see this post today. I have been wrestling with some similar feelings. In this season of life, I find myself searching for a "new normal". Nothing is the same as it was a year ago. I lost my Mom in December, and lost my husband in January. Now, I am 40 years old, and find myself trying to raise my 3 babies all by myself. In just the past few weeks I have started emerging from the "fog" that I have been walking around in for the past 11 1/2 months. The Lord has been so tender and merciful. But, now has come the time for Him to move me in a different direction... time as I said to figure out what that new "normal" is and at times I am terrified, at times excited, and at times extremely sad and at times I have an incredible sense of longing... for things to be right. They seem somewhat "amiss" even though they are not. So, I understand what you are saying. Thanks for the post!
Terri in Alabama
And so we set our hearts on pilgrimage, going from strength to strength until we finally see our God face to face.
Thanks Melissa. I'm so glad you're here.
so well put melissa. some days i am an alien and some days i am a naturalized citizen. my heart is prone to wander Lord i feel it.
i want to be true, faithful to my God and it is not going to happen in this skin of mine.
now i have a dad in glory. he just went home on the 17th. i hope he meets you grandpa. they would get along fabulously (read about my dad on my blog). and my prayer is just that: come Lord Jesus, come quickly.

Melissa,
Thank you for sharing this today...I am right there with you girlfriend and some days it just hurts...for no apparent reason! And you want to know why...but you hear God say it's ok the way it is right now! And you know you're supposed to "keeping on" but it feels futile! Restless is the perfect world. You are not alone! Thank God we can be together on this blog...I rarely post...but I feel so connected here...Thank you!
Amanda...I am going to try commenting anonymously and see if this works.
Everytime I comment here, I get a "delivery failure" comment for the lproof hotmail account.
I was wondering if anyone else has this problem? Just thought I'd mention it.
Amen Melissa. I have been feeling a gnawing, and nagging at me lately and I told my friend today that some days it just comes down to my hope is in heaven and that this is not my home. Thank you so much for this post...i get you. I long to be made complete. :) Thanks girl!!
I have those kind of days too but never understood what the restlessness was from. I think I realize now, though, after reading your thoughts, that I do long for something much more than this foreign world. This isn't home to us. We are foreigners. Thank you for your honesty. Love ya!
You described perfectly how I've been feeling for so long. I haven't really understood why I still feel a little off kilter, but you said it perfectly. There's nothing in particluar wrong right now, just that deep restlessness! I agree, Come Lord Jesus! But until then give us your Grace!
P.S. What you wrote Melissa is exactly what your mom's prayer devo was about today...I just read it....awesome! :)
I'm adding my Amen too. Thank you for expressing so beautifully what so many of us experience. I have recently been thinking along the same lines.
And your beau - is it Colin?? - he's a cutie. Congratulations.
Melissa,
I was just responding to a dearly missed friend's email and coming to some of the same conclusions about leaving friends, and change. (I have recently moved from beloved friends and ministry to women, to a new state. I am in a lonely waiting room of sorts.)
If our hearts didn't long for something more, I fear we would grow so comfortable here! I have learned that to long is to truly live the kingdom life. Oh for the joy of fullfillment that will one day be ours when we see Him and know even as we are known!
Yes and Amen, I join you in saying: Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
May the Father tenderly touch your heart, Melissa.
This is absolutely beautiful! I live a long way from my native Texas and I told someone just yesterday that I never get homesick. But that isn't true...I get homesick for the kingdom to come that I can't quite see yet, but long for. Thank you for expressing those feelings so well.
~MiPa in England
Timely, timely. Thank you and amen, sister, for expressing what has been hard for me to put into words or even understand.
~Amy7634
Melissa, I go through this often..and you said it beautifully. We live under the curse of Gensis, but we are blessed..it causes a struggle in us that will be over when we walk on with HIM, or HE comes back. I call it, "homesick for heaven", or just wanting the promise, that I know one day I will get. Life is hard, but God is good.
Melissa,
I am SO glad you are starting to post here:) I know you are a few years younger than me, but girl, I really learn from you:)
I KNOW exactly what you mean, but thankfully lately, its been a little bit better for me; I mean I am sure that is only temporary, but when your sole focus is on the things God wants your focus to be on, then its not so much of a spider web(I am reading Job in Disciple this week.)-
I am 27yrs, and I am about to write for my church's 10yr anniversary how God has changed my life through His love in the church, and I am speechless; I wish I could just take my tears and put them in a jar on display, because that is where you'll find my words:)
Anyway, great read girl:)
Have a great day, and keep writing!
Be Blessed:)
Angie
Melisa your thoughts reminded me of this piece of music from Ali Rogers,"Tanzania" From The Day of Small Things CD "Someday I will wake in a body that won't break on ground that doesn't shake. Not here. Someday I will live in a house that's built by hands that hold the world"
Melissa.. i totally understand what you are saying. When we remember that we are in a spiritual battle it also puts a whole new persepctive on things. as we are reminding that not only are we going to inherit the kingdom, but we are going to win the battle! As I living here in south Asis serving Jesus there are morings when i wake up with a cloak of heaviness all around me for no reason.. then i remember.. we are in a battle here! But our kingdom and our knight in shining armor jesus ultimatatly wins!
Thanks for the encouragement. I know exactly how you feel and have been there A LOT lately. It's just when things don't seem right, like something is missing. And no matter what you don't feel content. Thanks for some comforting reminders from the Word.
I have been reading your Blog for a while and just learned how to post a comment it is not hard at all :-).
thank you for all of your inspiration
I also thought I was alone in those thoughts!! I do long to be with Christ each and everyday. However, the one reason I have to continue life on this Earth is to see my family saved as I am. Thank you for your thoughts and God bless!
Thanks for yet another perspective, i just did day 59 in Jesus the one and only devot. and it was talking about the very same thing. That we are to be ready. As a single adult (never married) the story your mom shared at the end hit me, "to live in such close involvement with Him that all we lack is seeing Him face-to-face." WOW !!! I desire that in so many ways!!! Thanks for another view into a waiting game, espec during a hectic season that we are loosing our perspective in just to get things "done". God Bless.
Holly
Wonderfully written, Melissa. Thank you for sharing your heart for it is the cry of mine. I recently wrote on my blog that I'm experiencing a "dissonant heart". Your words resound within me and I appreciate your vulnerability. Press on, sister, and I'll do the same.
Melissa, Thank you for your reflections. I had a day like this the Friday after Thanksgiving. My husband kept asking me what was wrong, and I told him nothing. It was like you said - a beautiful day with a wonderful family. But something just did not feel right all day long. Our souls are torn between two worlds. So, we look to the One who is King of both! Our Comfort and our Hope - Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
SO GOOD, MELISSA! Keep them coming!
Love,
Sarah TN
AMEN!! AMEN! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!!
What a great post, and just what I needed this morning.
Thanks for sharing your heart!
Melissa,
That is so perfectly described, I totally grasp the "Not yet kingdom"! And I echo the "strangers in a strange land" comment! so true
I have a 15 year old daughter who is so struggling with understanding the suffering of the world. I know she has been called as an intercessor, but it is so overwhelming when you are so young and the big world is so overwhelming. Could you guys please pray for her.
The horrific "baby Grace" Riley case has her so obsessed, and torn up, that it is so hard for me to help her. I wish I could just give her my understanding, but I know she has to pound it out herself.
Bless you guys and thanks for sharing the deep things of God!
I always read the blog page but have not responded until today but you described exactly how I feel many days. I wondered if any one else felt it so powerfully. My life is wonderful. But I yearn for the new heaven and the new earth and eternity with my maker. I have been studying sermons from a pastor there in Houston named Dr. Aubrey Spears who teaches on the 'New Kingdom' topic very richly. I also read Randy Alcorns book on it but it was a little over my head most of the time. I wish you all would consider writing a study on it so these longings would be more widely and easily understood. It is not taught much in the church but the more I learn about heaven and the new earth, the more completed my faith feels. I can see the whole picture and knowing the end makes the walk here more barable, crossing over a little less intimidating, and our kingdom work here a lot more urgent. Thanks for your ministry--Paula
This post was timed to my spirit's crying out this morning. Thank you, dear heart. I am in the valley this fall.... just a valley with the Lord, so that should be okay.
As I ponder your comments realizing that I, too feel the same way often in my Christian walk, I am reminded that perhaps that nagging, uneasy feeling is but a taste of what lost people feel most of the time. Thank you Lord for reminding me that my life has not always been joyful and there were many moments that I felt plagued by uneasiness. Lord, now I realize it was because I was walking way outside of your light. I pray that the Lord will continue to remind us what "that" feels like so we can help others learn how to find true joy and peace that only comes through the Son and His Father. Thanks, Melissa for being so candid.
Lindsey
Dear Melissa and all,
Thanks to God for all of you. I enjoy reading the posts and recognizing the various friends(for that's what you are) yet I hope you understand if I don't enter a name. I'm in a postition of ministry and right now things are very rough there and in my family. It's such a gift to be a part of this loving community. Your post about longing for heaven reminded me that as hard as life has become lately, I also had those feelings years ago when my children were around me and life seemed more innocent somehow. It's still true that "God is good all the time; all the time God is good." He is so faithful to speak in the middle of lonely difficult days in ways that are unbelievably creative. It's His Presence that counts, isn't it?!
Oh, Melissa, I thought that it was my age (64) that made me feel this way but now I realize that all Christians probably have these feelings from time to time. If we did not want to know what Glory looks like, I think we would be kinda "weird". When I was young I thought "Jesus, don't come until I am grown". Then as I aged I thought "Jesus, don't come until my kids are grown". Now as I reach the "medicare age" I think "Jesus, don't come until I see my precious grandchildren grown". But you know what, Jesus will come when the Father leans over and says "Son, go get my children, the time is right". Oh, how I long for that time.
Thank-you Melissa, Thank-you. One of the things I have learned over the past couple years in your mom's studies is, I'm not alone. This longing is SO real isn't it? We press on toward the goal. Glad you're in the race with us!
Melana in Wyoming
Thank you for speaking such truth. Our suffering switch has been on for four months--straight. We sense God is using this as a time of transformation. I have a picture of the bride trying to get into the wedding dress...she needs to shed a few pounds before the BIG DAY. My few pounds are coming off--albeit painfully--and I'm seeing progress in my own growth (thank God!!! I want to get this lesson right the first time!). Praise God for your perspective. Press on!
Bless you dear Melissa! Yes, I know that feeling. Some days we are just "homesick for a country to which we've never been". The Holy Spirit living in us knows that country. Your thoughts remind me of the Christ Rice song that says "I just want to be with you. I want this waiting to be over..." Ain't it just the truth?!
In Him,
Cristie
WOW, I'm had that and even go trough dry seasons, where I'm in the word, and worship but just feel.. . .blah! I can't even find words to describe it, but you did it so well. You're going to be a wonderful writer one day, you and Amanda are truly gifted! Thank you so much for sharing with us!
I wonder if I am the only one who struggles with wanting to be with the Lord, and desiring his return, but also praying, "Lord, wait just a little longer" as i have so many loved ones who do not yet know Him. As much as I want to experience a life without sin and I want to see Jesus return, I have a deep burden on my heart for those I know who are unsaved, namely most of my family.
On a great note, I believe the Holy Spirit is drawing my mother in a very real way and I have true faith that I will see her saved in God's timing.
Thank you, Melissa, for this great post, lots of meat to chew on.
Melissa,
I too have been living these past 18 months with the tension between the now and the not yet, working through the truth about abuse in my past. I believe that even though as believers our intimacy with Christ is what fills us and helps us to cope with this tension, there is the fact that now we see through the veil dimly. It is what creates our longing for the "not yet"... being with Him. I can't wait!
Until then we groan,
Kathie
I'd also like to share that it took me a few weeks to allow the Lord to really do the work i my heart and mind, but the post about putting away music that doesn't honor God did influence me, and I finally last night did the "weed out". It was hard for me because, as I said in a previous post, not growing up Christian my tastes are very opposite of what is available in Christian music, so I struggle to find music that I like both for it's God-honoring lyrical content and the musical content. But I realized last night that I would rather have three or four cds I listen to over and over that encourage me to meditate on God's goodness, than a bunch of garbage htat just puts my mind in the gutter. Thanks, ladies, for being an encouragement in that.
Also, I am discovering Gospel musicians like Kim Burrell and finding there is good music out there that lifts God up while I'm getting down. :)
Yes, Melissa. Emmanuel-the God with us. You put it so beautifully--our hearts long for that Day when we see no longer dimly as in a mirror, but face to Face. Thank you for the reminder of this promise.
Melissa, I too at times have that restlessness and longing deep in my soul. I think that deep down inside us, our souls know where we belong and who we belong to and thus the longing that overwhelms us at times, that we can't explain. Praise His name, it won't be long until we'll all be with our creator.
Yes. Come, Lord Jesus. Come.
Melissa,
It makes me feel so good to know that I am not the only one feeling this way. Thank you so much for sharing with us and being so open.
So here I sit, precious Melissa, with tears streaming down my face AT MY DESK. Perfect. I know the feeling, I absolutely can not wait for the return of our Lord. So much so, that whenever conversations turn toward things of retirement or old age, I inwardly think how silly it all is because I'm convinced my Jesus is coming back any day! I just know that I and my dear husband and our sweet children are all just going to be raptured up any minute! AND I CAN'T WAIT! But until that comes, we press on sharing the gospel with those who have not yet believed and been pursuaded. Oh yes, Amen, Come Lord Jesus.
Lisa
I've always had this nagging feeling that I don't fit in. I used to think it was because I was weird (or moved a lot). Then a few years ago, I read something by Randy Alcorn and had an aha! moment.
I don't fit in because I don't belong here. This isn't the place I was ultimately created for. Some days I just don't deal well with the "present vs. eternity" tension.
Trying to live each day to the fullest while keeping heaven at the front of my mind.
Thanks, Melissa! (cute boyfriend by the way...)
interesting thought about the transcending spririt from "shalom"
Melissa,
I couldn't agree more. That deep longing persists as we press on... yes, come Lord Jesus!
in Him,
kt
Oh Melissa,
Thankyou for putting into words what has been going on inside my soul for the last three days. I love how God uses others to help us identify what is going on. I am now going to rest in the beauty of the Lord's peace until my restlessness goes away.
In His Peace and Love
Pam
I felt it, and you said it. I have a lot of friends who I've been trying to explain this to, but they don't seem to understand. Think I'll send them a link to this so maybe you can explain it to them. Thanks SO much!
Melissa,
Thank you so much for your blessed words! It reminds me of something the Lord spoke so clearly into my heart last winter - "This is NOT your home!" I needed to hear that reminder.
The last 4-5 months have been very difficult for me. I've had three major (aka stressful) life situations occur, topped off by anxiety-induced panic attacks. I started seeing a Christian counselor about a month ago and I am waiting patiently on the Lord for my deliverance from this pit. You words were a fresh new perspective that I haven't allowed myself to meditate on in quite a while. What an encouragement for me to remember that my struggles here on earth are light and momentary and I will one day be fully restored with Him!
Amen, Siesta!
I recently read Randy Alcorn's book, "Heaven". It's a must read! Now I can't wait for Heaven - while tied to this earth and my love for life as God has granted it.
Thanks for the reminder that when things are a little off, it's not just us, it's our longing for Heaven.
Hi Girl!
I feel that way at times too, well, really, every day. I think that's why Paul said he had to die to himself daily. When I look at world events and all the suffering that goes on, I can't help but pray for Jesus to come and SOON!! Then, I think how much I love being here with my kids and my husband and feel deeply connected to planet earth - despite being a foreigner in a foreign land. All in all, I'd be lost if my soul should ever stop aching and longing for His presence. It's Him that continually calls us home, knocks on the doors of our hearts and beckons our love. I love that and I love Him!!!
Blessings!
Monica
This was so well put! God intended for me to read this today. I struggle with this restlessness, too. I also have come to realize that maybe we need a little restlessness to urge us to pursue Him even more. Heaven help me if I ever become content enough that I no longer desire to grow in Christ!
Thanks for your precious words.
Blessings,

I am so in awe of our Lord and Savior. Just when you think that you are traveling alone He graciously brings another traveler along side and the walk seems somewhat lighter.
My son, actually stepson, passed on to glory in September. He was only 39 and had really struggled with his faith, he really felt that he had become an atheist. He would tell you that if you asked about his relationship with Jesus. His father and I prayed that he would not go home until he had the our son back in the palm of his mighty hand. Four days before he passed he went into a coma, I am certain that he was wrestling with God just as Jacob had and finally our son saw Jesus face to face.
On the day he passed we prayed that the Lord would give us "a sign" that he was home and in a sky so black that no shone and no visible way there was a very glorious and vibrant rainbow, huge, the widest rainbow we have ever witnessed AND it didn't bow, it went straight up into heaven.
No we don't mourn as others we have the gift and promise that our walk is not alone, He is with us, answers our deepest prayers and brings others alongside to help us walk.
Thank you so very much for your honesty and strength to serve!
You just spoke straight to my heart. Thank you for your transparency. I am so relieved to know that I am not the only one who has those restless days!
Have you ever read "Journey of Desire" by John Eldredge. He does a great job of pointing out what that restless feeling is about and giving an eternal perspective to it! Very good!!!!
When studying Moses, I found the word used for him as 'fair' in Acts is the idea of someone who is high born - from the city as opposed to the country. We are an uncommon, peculiar people and no doubt will never feel at home with what The Message refers to as "the natives".
And yes, I want to go home. I'm just not sure if I want to today.
This was a fantastic post...Always a thrill hearing from you!
I never thought of those times in my life as something special as you've explained. When I get that feeling I try to analyze it too much and wonder what's wrong with me, why am I feeling this way, is it my past? etc. Now I can call it what it is, homesickness for my heavenly dwelling. :)
I thought I was the only one who had those days, thanks for putting it into perspective. Melissa you are as gifed as your mother, taking what ever situation and allowing God to use it to bless and teach us. Amen
Cindy
Amen!
Melissa,
Such wisdom from one so young. I love this blog. It is so good to hear that I am not the only one who experiences a restlessnes and a longing for my future home, right now!!!
I am blessed to have a group of siestas to share my feeling with on a daily basis. We communicate via e-mail through the week and then get together on Wednesday for some in person loving and hugging.
We meet at a local restaurant every week before our bible study. We are finishing up A Woman's Heart, God's dwelling place. There are usually about 10 to 12 of us for the meal, including husbands and kids It is one big praise service. We do a lot of laughing and talking but when we join hands to ask the Lord blessings it is a very solemn and precious moment. I thank God for this hump-day revival. It helps to keep away the longings until that better day comes and we see our wonderful Lord and live with Him in Glory!!
I am glad you are finding time to add your spin to the blog. I already love reading your mother and sister's post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I was just sharing last night with an elder in our church how much us "newer" Christians appreciate knowing that people we think are so much more spiritual than we are suffer from some of the same afflictions we do (ok, that's wordy & I don't know if that makes sense).
Thank you for being so open and vulnerable with your bloggy siestas and sharing you with us. I'm sure I can speak for many on here when I say that I look forward to getting to know you.
Love ~ Cathy
Melissa,
This is something I have struggled with for many years. (I am 67 years old) It is comforting to know that someone that is involved in ministry as you are, can have these feelings of "is this all there is to that?" It is at these times that I question whether I have repented of everything I need to, have I dealt with my "stuff". What more am I supposed to be doing?
And then as quick as it comes, it goes until the next time!
Maybe that longing is to remind us that this isn't all there is and better things are coming, when we see Christ face to face.
Thank you for your good work.
Melissa,
I know just how you feel. I get an actual homesick feeling in the pit of my stomach even when I'm at home and I never understood it until I learned doing your Mom's Bible studies that it's our inner longer to go to our real home with the Lord! Thank you so much for sharing. You too are a gifted writer as well as your Mom and sister!

Thank you for sharing, Melissa. I can't wait to see Him either and to actually be with Him. This earth is not our home and though we have much to be grateful for as I almost daily say to my friends, family and co-workers "This isn't heaven!!!" Because of Jesus some day we'll be there!!! Thank you for the reminder that it's O.K. we struggle. And I am encouraged by all the blog sisters and their hearts. In Jesus' Love Kathy Knoblock
I guess I always thought these days meant I was off somehow! Thanks for sharing your heart and giving me insight into my own ocassonally not quite right days.

We are not of this world truly, are we? Even though looking into the faces of our loved ones and our precious children is a blessing, the Spirit in us longs to be home. Home home.
A great reminder, thank you.
loved this post Melissa...
your beautiful weighty words well received...
longing with you all for another country...no longer a citizen here...
it's what we were made for...
it's the Day we live for...
I am not a citizen of this world longing to make it to heaven.
I am a citizen of Heaven trying to make it through this "suffering switch" as you say and it is so very hard for me right now but worth anything we have to go through...
You reminded me of the St. Augustine quote - "our hearts are restless till we find our REST in Thee" and it won't be complete rest till we are in His Presence. I cannot even imagine seeing Him face to face forever...ooohh!
So we groan - Romans 8: 22-26 - with groanings too deep for words...
while all Creation groans for Him.
So, we'll keep on asking Him to advance His Kingdom through us while we groan. And long for that day when the Heavens will be thrown open for me, for you, and we will be ushered into our beautiful God's Presence. Oh!!
"we groan inwardly and
wa wait eagerly for our adoption,
the Redemption of our bodies"...
amen!
thank you for a beautiful post!
Thanks! You spoke my heart!
what a thinker you are Melissa. My uneasiness comes not from what you shared but not knowing him. I am trying hard to get it. But, I find myself avoiding him on a daily, weekly, yearly bases and I think if I am good, go to church and all that i will get it? Or, if i get tons of prayer I will get it? I bought a book i was intrigue with "All of Grace" by Spurgeon. I started reading it. it seems too simple! And I am too stubborn and not aware of the dangers that await me.
Ever since I read your blog
about having the desire for God's
people to want to serve them -
and to create an awareness of the
gospel of Jesus Christ, I
have had this very feeling. It
seems like every where I turn, I
am receiving all kinds of
messages relating to this very
subject. In fact, our pastor
just gave a message
about "thirsting for God's
people" and at times although I
have so much joy on the inside
and do feel complete - I
still long for that heavenly
dwelling as well as sharing the
message of Christ. Oh what a
day it will be.
Thanks for penning in such a
beautiful, wonderful way... your
words are simply refreshing.
Love you all you siestas so
much!! Alisa in Cheraw, SC
I often have those days, and long for His return! Living in a world so evil, Praise God this is not our home!
Come Lord Jesus!
Thank you Melissa for your words.
God Bless you and your family
Melissa, I'm with you. As far as lives go I am truly blessed, but I CANNOT wait to get to Heaven and be rid of all this flesh and its desires. I long for the day when I will serve my Lord with a pure heart and worship Him in spirit and in truth. I also can't wait to spend time with the other believers that I never had the pleasure of knowing here on earth. Wanna do lunch in Heaven? :) Thanks for sharing your heart.
I was so moved by the blog of Anonymous 8:31, her life has held so much sorrow and she has lived so unselfishly, in an age where natural parents do not put their children first. May God give her a large and loving "family" and may she share in the inheritance of those who fear His name. Shalom
Amen, siesta! What blessed hope we have in Him! I am lookin up!
Hi Melissa, Thank you for sharing that intimate feeling with us. I have personally been struggling with that type of feeling for some time. For me, at times, there seems to almost be a wrestling match within. I know that the Holy Spirit resides within, and I also know that sin part of me that exists. Those two living in the same place can cause some major unrest at times. I desire to be with the Lord and yearn for my divine home with Him. Yet, I live here and acknowledge His purpose for me now, at this time. My relationship with God is moving, we're growing together, we're relational and communicating . . . yet unrest and wrestling. I guess that part of me deep within will continue to have a type of restless yearning until I meet Him in the air or upon my death. Thank you for sharing with us. The realness in our relationships is so important. -JH
AMEN!!!!! I know exactly what you mean I just dont think I could have expressed any better than you! Thanks for sharing....it was something I totally needed to read today!.....Lexi
To Beth, Amanda, Melissa, and all my blog sisters,
"Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."
I love that greeting - it's my favorite way to start a letter - which means you'll probably see it every time I leave a comment.
First, Melissa - you go girl! I was not going to get on here and gush all over your post - brilliant though it was - gushing just doesn't seem to be your style, but the teacher in me had to congratulate you for a job well done.
Amanda, Due to reasons for which I take full responsibility, I have not always been very fond of this whole blog thing. God has been teaching me, and yes, sisters, some discipline has been a part of the process, so since the Thanksgiving post in particular, I've come to appreciate this blog for the tool that it is. I'm glad to be a part of the LPM blog sisterhood. Thanks, Amanda, for coming up with the idea.
Beth, your youngest daughter's brilliant post on your oldest daughter's brilliant blog was followed by your equally brilliant teaching, The Power of Words on Life Today. The three are connected because yesterday, (before I read Melissa's post or heard your teaching today) I was pondering that very idea that we wouldn't be completely free of our flesh and the propensity to hurt the feelings of others with our words until we're raised incorruptible and in the glorious presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. I don't know about anybody else, but I can't wait!
To all my sisters, You're probably familiar with The Five Love Languages, by Dr. Gary Chapman. Well, my love language is affirming words. The reason I share this is because for the person whose primary love language is affirming words, negative words can be and often are as devestating as positive words are affirming.
While we wait for His appearing, I'm going to follow directions, and speak words in this lengthy comment that edify. Ladies, if you're in need of affirmation or if you just need to hear God say the words, "I love you," get out your Bible and start with the gospel of John. Romans 5:8 is another favorite, "But God demonstrated His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us."
I appoligize for the length of this, but it has been on my heart to leave a comment today.
Love and blessings to all of you,
Patti
A Florida Siesta who is now glad to be a part of the blog family
Dear Melissa,
Thank you so much for your words. As a lot of our fellow siesta have said you are not alone. I, myself, find I have had these same feelings. This past week starting the holiday season I seem to start having a long for something more in my life. I see close friends (couples) so much in love just simply the way they look at one another or hold hands. It makes me long for that in a relationship. I found myself this weekend on my way to a my friends house and I just started crying longing for something or someone. I have been single (divorced) for 9 almost 10yrs and my sons are almost grown. The holidays have away of making me feel alone. But then I realize I am not alone and that any time that I wish I can reach out and hold the only hand that matters and will get me through these times. Thank you so much for your words and blog. I know this blog is as much apart of God's work as anything else. Because just when a person needs to read it the message reaches out and touches so many of us in that right moment. Thank you.
Your Siesta in Christ

Beth, Amanda & Melissa,
I LOVE this blog!!! I have been an avid reader for several months, but have never posted a comment until now. I've had some spiritually & emotionally dark days as a wife & new mom & God has used your specific words to loudly love on me & to encourage my heart (& to rebuke me ever so gently on occasion). Y'all have had me laughing & crying so many times. I love it! I thank God for y'all & for your ministry through this blog! Thank you!

P.S. My Jackson is 18 mos. old & I too have a crazy golden retriever, Cooper, who has never met a stranger! :)
Melissa, when will you be writing a book, I'll put my order in now.
Well said.

I long for heaven, where everything that is wrong now will be made right.
Amen...and amen. I feel like I am walking through a wilderness while also experiencing some wonderous blessings. Thanks for the post.
I feel like that often!! We are in full time service as missionaries and we face this world in its rawest form much of the time. I do long for heaven. And yet, I feel so honored that I get to do what I do and feel the Lord's presence so much. I can hardly imagine what it will be like when we really do dwell with Him in all his glory. WOW. Glory to HIM.
Melissa,
Oh I have felt like this so much recently. I know I am doing what God has called me to do for now (be a mommy and lead women's Bible studies) but I feel like I want to do SO much more. Some days I want to just sell everything and be a missionary - my hubby doesn't think that is such a great idea - LOL!!
God has such a specific plan for each of us and sometimes we are just where He needs us. We have to be still and listen to where He wants to use us next - oh the anticipation is half the fun :)
God bless sweet siesta - it is so good to hear from you again.
You are a true joy!!
Kim
Just a few days ago as I sat doing my "90 Days with the One and Only" devotion, I imagined what it will be like when we see Christ. To just put our head on His shoulder and sigh one last time. Because it will all be over then. All the pain, toil, suffering and "being torn" will be over. What sweet relief it will be! I sat there with my head on a pillow and imagined it was Christ's shoulder. How I long for Him to come. Thank you, Melissa, for your inspiring words.
Wow, I can not believe that someone I have never even met can put my feelings in to words so eloquently. You described everything I feel at times. I have been having some of those restless days recently and now I am so blessed to know that I am not alone. Thanks Melissa for sharing from your heart. You have blessed me. I also thank you for your words of insight. You are truly your mom's daughter. Blessings on your weekend.
Julie
There are days that my journaling just stalls...I know there is something I want, need, am looking for. At the end of my quiet time, I've just written, "come, Lord Jesus, come".
I wonder how many of us fill that need, longing with food, addictions, bad behavior, tears?
Blessings,
Susan
I know exactly how you feel. I will cry on the way home from having dinner with some of the dearest girls I know - because I feel lonely. It's hard to explain actually. But you can be surrounded by people that love you and care about you and have Fun with you, but in the midst of it all - you get why you feel "disconnected someone." In the end - the only one who really "gets" me and "knows" me is my Lord. I am closer to no one else than my husband, but even still - it's my God who knows me best. And isn't that the way it should be! I love my God. I am in love with God. I yearn for my Heavenly home. But until then, I eagerly await and take deep breathes anticipating His return. Then I will be at home. Surrounded by all my lovely family. Glory!!!
I thought of another song that describes the "Meanwhile we grown" (MWG) syndrome. Stephen Curtis Chapman's "We Are Not Home Yet." I've always loved the bridge in that song that goes "let us not grow weary or too content to stay" 'cause we are not home yet!
And let's not forget the precious hymn "When we all get to Heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus we'll sing and shout the victory! (Shout the victory!)" I love to sing that song in church and look all around me at the faces and imagine that glorious day. It's about more than I can stand!
Love & blessings to LPM family & blog siestas!
Amen! Come Lord Jesus, come!
Melissa,
Thank you for sharing so openly with us. You are not alone and neither are we.
This year has been without a doubt the most difficult of my life. We lost both of our parents this summer, exactly one month a part to the day. Our mother fought cancer for four and a half years and our father had a massive stroke the day she passed.
earlier this week I did log on as I do everyday because this blog is such a blessing to me but I had the stomach flu and just read part of your entry. I have read it again and some of the other entries as well. Enough to know that even though I am "all alone" in this town as far as blood family is concerned I have many many in the family of God here and I have this wonderful blog with my siestas!
Oh I how I long to have Jesus come now! I am sturggling and I must confess that right now I am not counting it "pure joy" to go through this.
Thank you again to all three of you for being so honest and open with your sharing.
Thank you so much I am not he only one who has that longing deep inside.
I try and see these days as a longing for home. There are days where I feel like a kid away at camp. I am having fun here, but I know that at the end of the camp I am going home. Home is somewhere that has a nice bed rather than a bunk, where Mom cooks food that isn't mass produced. Camp is good, like life on this earth is good, but Heaven well that is just where all the best stuff is just waiting on us to get home. Some of us have close family members, children, spouses, friends and people that we ache to see again, but more than that our Father is there waiting on us.
As a mother of a daughter with special needs life here can sometimes be heartwrenching, but knowing what is on the other side of those clouds makes it doable. I know that once we make it to that point she will be as perfect as I see her, and I have to say that just makes me ready for us all to be there together. Sometimes I imagine what it will be like when the trumpets sound and EVERY knee bows, wow what a day..
I have to say your thoughts made me cry. There is so much to do. The standards we set are so high. We keep pressing on, pushing through, for our friends, our kids our families,
ourselves. Sometimes I lose sight of the Glory. I forget I have something very real and so much better to look forward to. Something so wonderful it will humble me when I realize that I like Martha should be at His feet instead.
Thanks for the reminder,
Kathy
Melissa, I've had those days too. I pray that I have those longings more and that my teenage children have them as well. I don't want to be content here -- sure, I love my family and life is good, but I want more of Him.
Wow Melissa, thank you. I can't really express what that does to my heart right now.
You absolutely nailed it Melissa! Thank you so much for your insight into this place that I sometimes go without rhyme nor reason. Thank you also for sharing your heart to let others know they are not alone in the seemingly unexplainable! Isn't that just like the devil, make us feel like we are all alone and no one else feels that way so there must be something wrong with us? UGH! This target is still on the move.
Thanks again Melissa and have an incredible day!
Desperately Lost Without Him,
Vicky
No, Melissa, you are not alone in the restlessness. I too, don't really have any problems, but something just-isn't-right.
May the Lord minister to all those who feel the same....
Melissa, thank you. That was so well written.
I felt like that the weekend after Thanksgiving. My husband brought the Christmas tree and other items in and he left for the day, which was fine. I like to play music and decorate and clean when he's gone. Our kids are grown, so I was alone putting the things out. Maybe it was just seeing all of the memories of things I have put out for the past 27 plus years, but a sadness came over me. I had just spent Thanksgiving with 16 family members. My kids and husband are wonderful, I still have parents who are very much alive and well, I have wonderful friends...church, job etc. yet I kept feeling so sad. Sometimes I do feel like I am interceeding for someone when I get like that. I called my daughter and she was fine. I know back in her college days sometimes I'd feel a certain sadness and call her and she'd be feeling the same way.
This last week when I was feeling this way, I just thanked God for all of my blessings. I'm weird sometimes because I start thinking that things won't always be as good as they are now. I won't always have my parents etc. That's when I have to think differently. I do have all of this today and I'm blessed.
Thank you for your wonderful post and thank you and your family for being honest with us.
I truly can't wait for heaven.
I just finished "A Woman's Heart" and your mom talked about what won't be in heaven. It was so good. Rev. 4
I would like to be a grandma before I go.... :)
Love to all,
Valerie
What a powerful word you brought to us. Thank you so much!! The battles have been many and long lately and it was encouraging to read your words.
Have a blessed day!!
Love,
Patty
I feel this a lot. Often it is a longing for God, I miss him. Can't explain it. Want to be closer and feel so inadiquate. Often it is when I have messed up and feel alone. Guess that's not exactly the same thing but still, want to go home.
I am so excited to have found this blog. I saw Beth in Birmingham a couple of years ago, and my life has been changed ever since. Before, the "Girls" would get together to play cards, now we get together and do our Beth Moore study. I can't wait to check this daily!
Merry Christmas!
Leslie
Wow Melissa, an amazing devotional right on this blog that is perfect for how I've been feeling this week. In fact, the very day you wrote it, I was feeling this way. I fit into the category of 'so blessed I cannot take it all in', and yet the underlying nag is still there---that there is more to come. I look forward to that day with you! God bless you for sharing your Bible knowledge and your tender heart.
I have a name! I have a blog name! I'm so excited...I've never been a blogger so for 9 months I've just been "ANONYMOUS", boy that's exciting...but now I have a name. Anyway, I've already responded to this post but I was scrolling through other comments and came across our sister who's daughter had the most awful experience of having her virginity taken from her. I just had to write in and say I'm praying, dear one. Oh how I pray for that young girl and I know God can restore her. I sat and cried thinking of all the sinful mistakes I made and of her commitment which was taken from her. I'm so sorry. May God do what only He can do, to His eternal glory! And may you all be loved through this by your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Lisa
Melissa,
What words of wisdom you speak in your youth. I think as the vails are lifted off of our eyes, we decrease and christ in us increases, we long so much to be with our father. We begin to realize that what we long for in this world will not be realized until we are in the presence of GOD. We long for peace on earth, no disease, good will toward man, but the truth is this will not happen until we are in the presence of our LORD.
I was reading in Ezekiel 48 this morning and GOD is telling Ezekiel specficially how to restore Israel and divide the land. (It is in the last books of Ezekiel that I have realized that we have a very detail oriented GOD.) The commentary in my NIV Life application study bible for Ezekiel 48:35 (p. 1472) states the following: "The book ends with a detailed vision of the new temple, the new city, and the new people-all demonstrating GOD's holiness. The pressures of everyday life may persuade us to focus on the here and now and thus forget GOD. That is why worship is so important; it takes our eyes off our current worries, gives us a glimpse of God's holiness, and allows us to look toward his future kingdom. Gods presence makes everything glorious, and worship brings us into his presence." So I guess the prescription for a longing heart is to worship.
Thanks for sharing your heart. It touched mine.
Karen
Amen Sister! I know exactly what you mean! I can't wait to see my loved ones who are already with Christ, and most of all to be in His presence!
melissa-great post. i well...we all did a online personality quiz over thanksgiving. it sure brought some great laughs as we saw the outcome. interesting that we each could say that's true...but needed a test to bring it to the table. thank you LORD that we could all laugh at our own selves and pray those impurities get skimmed off!
anyway...one question was "do you long for heaven?" well YES! of course...and quickly my heart ached as i think of those around me that might not check the box "definitely true". does the question get tallied from a worldly point of view?...most likely. & tho i love life...i love life in Him so much more and do long for the day i see my Savior face to face.
lovin life in Him-lisa
