Siesta SMT Celebration Recaps

Hello, ladies! I hope everyone made it home safely and happily from the Siesta SMT Celebration. For those of you who were unable to join us, please know that we missed you and thought of you a million times. I don't know when or where, but I feel certain there will be a "next time."

Yesterday would have been a great day for me to write a recap of the event, with it being so fresh on my mind and heart, but I was so tired I could barely string two sentences together. Did anyone else feel like that? Thanks for your patience as I spent the last 48 hours recuperating and tending to my family. I know Mom would be on here right now except that we start our new semester of Bible study tomorrow (yippee!) and she's got her sweet little head in her books today. So here is my feeble attempt to recap a weekend that was too wonderful for words. Please forgive my lack of pictures. I will work on those tomorrow.

Dressed in my black and green SSMTC t-shirt, I set out from the house on Friday afternoon and headed to The Omni. Hillsong United was playing loudly in the car and it was one of those times when I probably embarrassed myself in front of other drivers but didn't care. My heart was so full! I got to the hotel and drove to the back to find the "free" parking garage, which I knew about thanks to a comment I read from one of you. As soon as I got out of my car I saw a group of Siestas who were leaving to have dinner at Pappasito's. It was such a fun encounter - the first of many! I made my way into the lobby to check in to my room and there were Siestas and pink feathers everywhere. My first thought was, "They came! They really came!" What a wonderful sight! I got to see Tiffany, Adrienne/Fuzzytop, and Melana/Moose Mama as well as many other beautiful ladies in pink boas. (That was such a great idea, y'all.)

I dropped everything off in my room and looked out the window to see some of our Siestas (I think) hanging out by the pool. They weren't actually swimming, but I was so glad they got to enjoy the beautiful warm day. Next I went up to 1123 to check out the hospitality room the hotel had given us. It was so pretty! I felt like I was in a palace. I got to visit with some more sweet Siestas and then it was time to head to the church.

It was not long before our ladies started to arrive. In fact, I think some of y'all beat me there. I was stationed at one of the name tag tables, which is where I met Kelly Jo from Kentucky and my bloggy friend Charity who brought me a box of tea from the UK. We had never met face-to-face but I felt like I knew her. I'm sure you can relate. Melanie/Big Mama was there (in a very cute jacket) bearing cookies from her favorite bakery in San Antonio. Siesta Tiffany brought the Moore girls two boxes of cookies from JD's Chippery - our favorite place in Dallas. Are you kidding me? Could we be any more blessed? My friend Marla Taviano came in from Ohio and it was such a gift to have her there. She made her own boa out of fun scraps of pink fabric. It was so adorable!

Wow, this is already so long and the conference hasn't even started. Sorry!

Soon it was time to begin. Mom came in and Melissa and I went on stage to help her welcome everyone. I immediately got a hundred massive butterflies in my stomach when I got up there and saw all 507 ladies. It was very exciting to see everyone though! We shared some fun statistics about who was there and where they came from (even Alaska and Hawaii!) and then it was time for worship. Travis Cottrell led us with a Houston-based praise team (which included our own LPM sister, Kimberly McMahon/KMac, and our Tuesday night worship leader, Lisa Pierre) and the iPod band. They were awesome. We were on the front row and could hear everyone in the room singing so loudly. It seemed like the group didn't even need a warm-up - we were at a "10" from the start. During worship it struck me that in Siestaville, Jesus is truly the first and deepest bond that we all share. Our love for Him is the Reason for all of this.

(Please allow me to interject that I just heard from a Siesta who discovered on Saturday morning that her 4-year-old son had unpacked all of her unmentionables to "play a trick on mommy." That deserves both an "LOL" and a "bless her heart!")

Beth brought a great message from Psalm 119. She had her own little trick planned in which she tried to tell us that we'd be memorizing all 176 verses in 17 hours. I just looked for my notes to share some of the points I wrote down, but I can't find them anywhere! Oh no! Y'all will have to help me out.

After the session, we all had Siesta Mama's Texas sheet cake and mingled in the church foyer. Can you believe she was able to bake that much cake and teach the conference? Neither can I! We have Chefs Paul and Katherine to thank for our yummy dessert. Lots of fun pictures and hugs later, it was time to say goodnight.

Melanie/Big Mama and I took Marla to have a traditional Texas Aggie dinner at none other than Freebird's. Melanie is about the size of my pinky and she attempted to eat a monster size burrito. The monster won out in the end. I'm not sure if Marla was a fan of the Freebird, but she was a good sport about it. We finally headed back to the hotel and then Marla and I went to the hospitality room to hang out. It was after 11 at that point and there were only two Siestas up there. I was so sad to have missed the party! But more ladies trickled in and we pulled up chairs in a circle. That was a neat time. Two ladies were having a little issue with their room, and all of a sudden one of the Omni workers walked through the door and called out their names. He said, "You are now the Mistresses of the suite." Then he swung open a door and revealed their beautiful new room that adjoined the hospitality suite. Everyone was squealing and laughing because it was just so cool to see God loving on them.

By this time I think we were all about to drop. Marla and I went back to the room and crashed. I slept until about 3:40, at which point I woke up never to drift back into blessed dreamland. It was a combination of being too excited and the room being too quiet. Oh, the irony of being unable to sleep in a quiet room! The good news is I was pretty much ready by 6 a.m.

We made it back to the church and grabbed some food. I think some of our ladies got to try breakfast tacos for the first time. (One of my faves!) After prayer time with the team, it was time to begin. Morning worship was tremendous and Travis had us ready to receive our word from the Lord. Mom brought the second half of her message and the Lord was moving in our hearts. She got really hyper toward the end and Melissa and I couldn't stop laughing in amazement. She'd told us (and demonstrated) that she got so excited while listening to a Chris Tomlin song on her walk that she stopped, did a knee lift and played the air guitar. In the middle of the neighborhood. Oh my word, my parents are going to have to move now!

After Mom finished teaching, we broke up into pairs and said our memory verses to one another. Everyone spread out throughout the church and courtyard, which was a sight to see. Mom and I said our verses to each other while Melissa went out and took some pictures of our girls doing their thing.

Thirty minutes later we met back up in the fellowship hall where the event took place. It just happened to be in the room where Mom's Sunday school class used to be, which was really special for her. We gave away some door prizes like $25 gift certificates to our LPM store, some Wising Up DVD's, and a few So Long Insecurity books. We also had the ladies vote for their favorite blog name or screen name. Spicy Magnolia/Meghan came in second place and Lopsidedhalo/Brittney came in first! They came on stage to explain why they chose those names and then we gave them copies of SLI. They were both so adorable!

We did a little question and answer session with the time we had left. It was kind of like the one at the Siesta Fiesta in 2008, but shorter. Those are fun to do with Mom and Melissa but later on I always wonder if I said something dumb. That's why writing is so much better! I can always go back and edit this post but once you speak something outloud, that's it. That freaks me out a little bit.

Travis and the team closed us out with worship and I think we would have stayed there all day if we could have. Melissa, Mom and I hated for it to be over, so we decided to go out in the foyer and see everyone off. We got to hug a lot of necks, take some pictures, and say "See you next time!" It was bittersweet!

I want to end by telling you what WONDERFUL, AMAZING, GODLY, BEAUTIFUL, HILARIOUS, SMART, WARM, LOVING, GRACE-FILLED women you all are. We love you ladies so very much. I'm not just talking about the ones we got to meet, but also you sitting on the other side of the screen who didn't get to come this time. You ladies are jewels and we love getting to journey with you. Thanks for everything you add to our lives and for how you enrich this ministry.

And thank you for coming to the Siesta Scripture Memory Team Celebration! We had a blast!

Okay, I'm going to try something new. If you would like to share your own SSMTC recap and/or pictures from your blog, you can link to it here. Copy and paste the link that goes directly to the specific post you have written (not just to your blog in general). If this goes well we might be able to use it for future events, which could be fun! If you just want to leave a comment, you can still do that. Just look below the McLinky and you'll see where to do it.

Oh Amanda! Thanks so much for doing this! I feel like I was there. :)

I do have to say...the meeting that made me cancel coming to SSMTC, was cancelled on THursday night. For about an hour, I was ready to start shooting e-mails to see if I could still come...BUT....
God had different plans. I got to spend Friday night with my sister. Totally unplanned. We sat up until almost 2:30 crying, talking, praying...it was her night for freedom to begin. We have been praying for 15 years for her heart to turn back to Jesus. If I had been in Houston, I would have missed hearing her say...."I just want to be free...how do I do this.." Just so happened, my mother had purchased the "breaking free" workbook and audio cd's for her. They were on her nightstand when she got to our parent's on Friday night. God so orchestrated last weekend..and even though I'm sick that I wasn't there...I know that I was exactly where He wanted me to be. How Great is our God!

Looking forward to pictures and reading more stories!!!!

Much Love!

Wow, I'm "traumatized" by the image of your Mom doing a knee lift for air guitar! The visual will take some serious therapy. :) So wish I could've been there. Sounds exhilarating, hilarious, thoughtful and exhausting. Kinda like marathon shopping with girlfriends. Thanks for sharing.

Let's see...Psalm 119 = 176 verses; elaborate acrostic; 70 different prayer requests; uses 8 different words for the revelation of God; describes life with God -from A to Z.

I am a resident alien, seeking direction, in deep want of wonder, in peril and need, troubled by humanity, especially my own, knowing that to follow is the only free road for a straying sheep longing to be found.

Remember: You can tell you are lost if you have lost your wonder...
Blamelessness, not perfection...
In the midst of suffering, God will bring you "Happy" moments...
allow God's restoration... choose freedom... Jesus came to find ME!
"Do not pass it until it is planted!"
"Trendy out of context = freaky"

BTW, Amanda, you are the most approachable woman of grace and strength that I have ever met. Thank you. I was honored to speak to you. Also, I "got my Jesus on" in worship at your church yesterday. I was impressed that a building that size felt so comfortable, inviting, nuturing and authentic. A great experience.

Hi Amanda. What a great time the weekend was! Thanks to all who planned it. My husband and I flew to Houston from Tennessee on Thursday, and left on Sunday after attending worship at your home church. It was my first visit to Texas, and we enjoyed it so. We even ate at Pappasitos twice! The SSMT celebration was so much fun. Even though I was there solo, I met a precious new young friend who was near the age of my daughter. We shared our verses with each other and it was a special time. I also got to briefly meet your sweet mom which was a delight. The worship was wonderful and Beth's teaching inspired. Thanks again. Thanks for the summary post and I look forward to pictures. And lest siestas everywhere not be confused, did you perhaps go to the Omni on Friday and not Monday? LOL.

Favorite Siesta Celebration Moment:

As Beth is talking about going through old family photos, she mentions some possible fashion mishaps of the past - and enlightens us with these words of wisdom:
"Trendy - context = freaky"

Well, obviously, my sister and I got a kick out of this one as did everyone else.
I then looked down, and remembered that I wore a sequined vest to Friday nights festivities.

Uncontrollable giggles ensued.

Thanks Beth, for the words of wisdom. Looks like I could've used them a little earlier in the day though!

Ok, I have a confession to make. I was jet lagged and overwhelmed and feeling very insecure about going by myself. It was a real battle all day on Friday to get myself to go, but I did. Mostly because I registered but also because I knew I had an opportunity to be somewhere many other siestas out there wish they had and I didn't want to take that for granted.

Anyways, I took my insecure self to 1st Baptist and I LOVED it! I met a wonderful friend for the first time....we had hooked up on this very blog. Sweet Rhonda was all I hoped she would be. The music was great, Beth was incredible, and I left with a LOT to think about.

I am so glad that I didn't let my insecurities get the best of me........it was a close one!

Thank you for all of the very hard work that went into making this weekend possible!

Luv2praise, when you have written and published your post, click on the title. That will bring the new post up by itself. Then put your cursor in the address bar (it will highlight everything) and hit Ctrl C to copy the address/URL. When you go to paste the address/URL into the McLinky, just put your cursor in the box and click Ctrl V. (If you have a Mac then you will copy and paste differently.) I hope that helps! I will delete the entries that don't work, so if you don't see yours, try again. Thanks y'all!

I can't tell you how many times I have fallen literally face down in thanksgiving to God over this past weekend! I can't quit thanking Him! Goodness... I can't quit crying... tears of joy... tears of refreshment, renewal, thanksgiving... God showed up huge! He did a mighty work in my heart! I am grateful... so grateful!

Every time I think of the weekend, I just smile. And I've a feeling I'll be smiling for quite a while.

Thanks for putting in the "linky" thing. Now I can read lots of siestas blogs and relive it again and again.

I would like to link my blog, but it will be awhile before I debrief about the SMT weekend.... My original plan included a solo trip to the celebration. I knew I would have to psych myself up to enjoy the weekend without a friend coming with me. As it turned out, I spent the week prior to the celebration in my home town helping my mom and grandma grieve the loss of my grandpa. His homegoing was a celebration, but even good emotions are exhausting. In addition, my dear grandma's heart was broken by their separation.

The night before I was to fly to Houston, my flight was canceled and I spent 2 hours on hold to no avail. On Friday morning, I was able to get on a direct flight, and I arrived just in time to freshen up and head to the church. Tackling the airlines, the rental car, the Houston freeways, the hotel, etc. left me extremely emotional (especially after the previous 5 days). I was very "out of sorts" at the celebration, but I knew God intended for me to be there. And, He did speak directly to me in several meaningful ways, but it was so hard!

I regret not being able to engage more deeply for fear of crying all over another person. I totally forgot about the hospitality room. I was just kind of a mess.... Sigh.

Yet, the Lord clearly spoke to me,and he provided.... I was supposed to stay Saturday night, too. But, by noon on Saturday, I just wanted to get home asap, and see my husband and sons who I left 6 days earlier. I called the airlines and found that I could fly home that night for $245. If I stayed, I would have another night in a hotel, a car rental day, and meals.... So, I hurried it to the airport at noon. In person, the airlines attendant gave me a break, and only charged me $90 to fly home early (less than it would have cost me to spend another night in Houston). Then, I felt a little dumb for having been in Houston and not eaten any Mexican food. As I made my way through security, I saw Pappasito's on the other side. Ahhh, it was fabulous! I felt the Lord smiling down and blessing me for following through and attending the celebration even though I struggled.

Thank you for planning such a lovely event! You clearly enjoyed it and loved on all of us. Beth, you made me laugh, and my notes will be frequently reviewed for the deep thoughts that you led me through.

Thanks, Amanda, for the re-cap! I FINALLY got home at 2:00 am Alaska Standard Time (AST) on Monday. (Are you jealous that Alaska gets it's own standard time? Don't be. I'm way too tired to feel smug about it, but I did want to point it out) (Smile)

For all 407 of the 507 of you who wanted to know what the temperature is in Alaska this time of year, as of this moment it is a whopping 12 degrees.

---and, referencing (what was it? Point #3?) "I am in deep want of wonder" about which Starbucks I need to visit in order to have a Venti coffee help me survive the rest of my day.

Kiki - hope you made it back to Atlanta, dear!

My thighs would like to know who they should thank for the extra five pounds I'm sporting after that Saturday night Siestaville Rendezvous at the Chocolate Bar (although I did tell my husband between all the lovely folks at First Baptist and all the lovely chocolate at the Chocolate Bar, I'm ready to move to Houston).

And one last shout out to Miesta Moose, who I was so impressed to finally bump into smack dab in the middle of the Galleria.

I love a moose who knows how to shop.

What a fun weekend! Thanks LPM ladies and Amanda, Melissa, and Beth (oh my gracious, I just realized Beth was hyped up BEFORE she drank that coffee Saturday late morning. Wow! Too bad we didn't have a Saturday afternoon session. That could have been extremely interesting).

(and no, I can't get the image of Beth air-guitaring in her neighborhood out of my mind...)

Wow! What a great time. My mom and I got to spend it together coming from different states! I can't put into words how encouraging and refreshing the weekend was for me. Being a mom of two small kids and in a constant state of sleep deprivation I sure needed a few days to sleep in:) The word that Beth shared spoke right to my heart and situation. Isn't God cool like that!

My four year daughter was looking at some of the pictures on different blogs and saw the one of Beth drinking Starbucks. She said," Mommy they have Starbucks there?!" She was blown away (LOL).

Thanks for what you all do!

What a great time. I loved every minute of it. I too went by myself, but I was not going to miss it. I tried to get a friend to commit but she didn't get far. Maybe next time I can get some local friends to join in. It is so great to get with others who love God so much and will worship Him with song and praise with such cheerful hearts. I just don't see that very often. As Beth said "we are aliens" which is exactly how I feel. I am sad that I was not able to speak one-on-one and meet you personally. I too thought you were gone on Saturday afterwards and left not knowing you were in the foyer. God will have another special time for that and I look forward to it. I do look forward to doing it again. Thank you Beth for all you do. I have learned so much through your studies and have drawn closer to God because of it. He is so awesome I can't get enough. I didn't get to speak to you, Melissa or your Mom. . .wanted to so bad. . .but it was wonderful to be blessed by all 3 or you and Travis and everyone you had with you!

Thank you all so much at LPM for everything that y'all did for all of us, so many little details that just show your love is truly genuine.
Amanda you are so real and down to earth, I was blessed to be in the suite late Saturday night when Nikki & Laura were blessed with the Suite room! That is a great memory of how God knew the right ones to bless with an extra special room.
I am still trying to process it all, a true mountain top experience.
Now after all my friends are jealous of my facebook profile pic of me with Beth, I need to deal with my pride issues.
God gave my friend Michelle and I a special sweet time together right before she moves away to start a church plant. Beth's final blessing had extra special meaning to us.
Thank You all so much!

Well, I can't help but be impressed with the daughter - I would call her a little girl, but she is definitely not a little girl. She has her spiral of index cards and the cutest outfit....she was ready for a good time with the Moore's and everyone else in attendance. Kudos to her and her mom for such a successful accomplishment on a mother and daughter project!! Mom, you definitely have something to be proud of...that daughter in scriptures early in life...what a foundation!!

Thanks to all for sharing...it looks like a good time had by all. I actually managed a tear while reading about you all being in the same room that Beth started it all in...that MUST have been so cool for all. Keep the pictures rolling in...as well as the precious memories everyone made over the weekend.

The weekend was so great - way too short! I also had an experience of embarrassing myself on the road this morning while crankin' up the praise music and letting my soul overflow with love for Jesus. I had Travis' CD blasting, and I was so into it that all of a sudden I found I had both hands raised off the steering wheel and my eyes were closed...while I was driving. God was gracious and shielded me from any accidents and reminded me to praise Him with my eyes open so I could see His glory even on the road before me. Phew. Jesus is so good. A big thank you to everyone who made it happen!

Amanda, Beth, Melissa and the entire LPM team,

Thank you for a glorious weekend! I felt honored to be there worshipping with so many beautiful women.

I also want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for making Dailey Rae feel so special. She will remember this weekend for a life time. (I also think she may think you guys are her new BFFs too.) I posted on Facebook that before Friday night, she thought her mama was crazy, but after Saturday she KNEW that her mama plus 506 other ladies were absolutely CRAZY FOR JESUS!

Counting down until the "next time"...

Hugs and kisses,

Great recap, Amanda. (BTW, you didn't seem nervous up there at all!) Thanks to all the team for the great weekend. I enjoyed meeting the out-of-town siestas like Jodi, Heidi (glad you were able to be there after your difficult week) and the cute ladies from PA sitting in front of me, as well as some locals.

My four-year-old bumped his head today and all I could think of was Beth calling the microwave, "you meanie!"

I had a wonderful time, Amanda. It was so great to finally meet you and Melissa.

After I read your blog, I had to fight back the tears. I didn't know Beth was going to come out again on the last day to meet people. I never got that picture with her. But I did get a hug ... I was coming out of the bathroom Friday night as she was about to walk into the room ... and she reached to hug me. I'd call it an accidental hug, but I really don't believe in accidents too much! Okay ... I got a picture with her back in the summer at a Life Today taping (thank you, Melissa). So ... I'm going to be a big girl ... big girls don't cry!! :)

I met a very sweet lady ... Donna. We had a great time sitting together and said our verses to each other. She made me feel at home ... as she is from the Houston area.

I wanted my girls to come in and meet you girls ... but their hair was a total wreck from swimming at the hotel(thanks to their daddy). B.R.U.S.H. As soon as we got to NASA after the event, I had to take my youngest into the bathroom and try to fix her knotty, curly hair!

Love you girls and appreciate you so much.

Okay....I now need to come up with a creative and clever blog name....Ginger from Alabama is kind of "yawny!" The problem is that I'm pretty wiped out right now so it may take me awhile....any ideas from anyone who may know who I am????! :) "Silver Sass" because of my silver/white hair??????...and perhaps my "not-so-calm" demeanor???!!!

I've told several people that this celebration may have been the greatest experience for me since one of my volleyball players led me to Jesus 30 years ago.....or at least in the top 5. I NEEDED refreshing for my soul....thank you Beth, Amanda, Melissa, AND all my siestas who truly just blessed my little volleyball socks right off! I found myself weepy several times and when Beth had us hold each others hands to bless our siesta, I almost couldn't finish! My soul was thirsty for this sweet fellowship with other sisters!!!!!!!! Thank you all.

But isn't is just like the enemy to want to try and steal the joy and excitement from such a time as we had!!! I JUST got home this morning at 8:45!!!!!!! We sat IN the plane on the runway in HOUSTON for about 2 hours because Atlanta was having tornado warnings and such......THEN back to the gate. THEN the flight was cancelled, THEN it wasn't. THEN we flew to Atlanta only to sit in the plane by the gates for about 40 minutes because there wasn't a gate available. THEN the last flight to Montgomery left without me. THEN I tried to get a rental car to head home (live only about 2 hrs. from Atlanta) and NO ONE would rent a car one-way. THEN Siesta Dawn took Siesta Audrey and I to her home for the night....well, about 3 hrs. of sleep....THEN we went back to the airport at 5:30am. Yes, that enemy was after us BUT, he didn't win!!!! The three of us just laughed and re-hashed everything, we quoted our verses Siesta Mama, and just tried to keep the joy. Of course, I had school this morning and missed one of my classes but I finally got to school for the rest of the day. Let me say this in no uncertain terms Siestas....I wouldn't have traded this experience with all of you for anything!

Blessings to you all!

My friend Sherry & I met through blogging where we found out we live about 10 miles from one another.
We have become such good friends and decided to do the Scripture memorization only to find out that we had both chosen Psalm 139 to memorize.
After working on that chapter all year it was so touching when we stood together (in the very room where Beth taught Sunday School for years) and recited each verse to each other. I became emotional as I was doing mine because I caught glimpse after glimpse of Siestas paired up all over the place sharing their Scriptures.
It will take a few posts for me to share all that blessed me Friday - Sunday.
A Houston friend that I met on the blog didn't attend the event, but offered to pick us up at the airport & take us to lunch & by the Living Proof Office. How sweet is that?!!!
Blogging friends are the best! Two other blogging friends we had never met in person met us at Pappasito's. It was as if we had all known each other forever.
While we were waiting for our ride to pick us up at the airport I spotted Travis. Bless his heart, he was listening to a worship song on his ipod and we went a little nuts when we saw him. I have a very cute picture I'll be sharing on my blog that involves hot pink boas. One that he says needs to be destroyed.
The message Beth brought was wonderful as usual. Travis and the worship leaders were great.
Thank you Houston First Baptist, The LPM staff, Amanda & Melissa & all who made this event possible. The chocolate cake was so good. It was our dinner! :) We felt so loved on & pampered all weekend.
I am thankful that at the very end a group of four of us got our picture taken with Beth. She was so sweet to keep staying even though she was worn out.
Oh yes.....I loved the question and answer time when you and Melissa said the precious things about your mom. :)
Those who couldn't attend were missed and thought of throughout the weekend.
We must do this again!
Thanks again for everything!

Dear ones serving at LPM, thank you all so much for a celebratory and special weekend! I am so thankful I was able to make it. You all made us feel so loved and cared for with all of the special planning, and gifts, and your excitement to see all of us. I am treasuring so many things in my heart from this past weekend, most of which was a celebratory culmination to a year that the Lord used my Scriptures and this community to help me each and every day. What a weekend to celebrate HIM and His faithfulness! Thank you for serving us and loving us! And thank you for my special book! :) I can't wait to read it alongside ya'll! Much love to each of you.

I intend to blog more, but felt this small tidbit should be posted via comment as I want you all to giggle endlessly each time you see a comment posted by this person. Yes, the conference did start with 507 siestas, however, it ended with 508. I entitle my story "Discovering Sidewalk_Sue." It was Sat. evening and we were on our way to the Chocolate bar for some much needed desert as Houston driving had taken it's toll on us OH/PA girls. In fact, I was actually holding my GPS in my hand for fear that it would be thrown out the window if it had requested us to turn right and then cut across 5 lanes of traffic in less than 300yrds to turn left one more time. I won't even get into how many laps we did around 610. As we approached we discovered there was very minimal parking, so we tried to duck into the parking lot across the street, however, this was not part of God's plan- He had a deliverance planned.
The owner caught us and asked us to move. With our best Christlike attitude we piled back in the car. I immediately spotted a little lot across the street, however, we are consistant, so we turned the wrong way and had to circle the other lot. lol. On our second approach things looked clear, but just as we were turning in, a car began to pull out right in front of us. I turned around to check for clearance for us to back up, however, that would prove unnecessary as my driver had already made the spur of the moment decision to drive us down the six feet of sidewalk to get to the other side of the lot. She had had all she could take. She emerged from the car and swung the doorshut like a cowboy blowing the smoke from a freshly shot gun. Amy and I could barely walk as our knees keep buckling from laughter. Our other siestas were quick to appreciate the story. As we sat fellowshipping with the others my new friend I had spent the last 36hrs with seemed different. She shared more freely, and laughed with a new aire about her-- we even heard confessions of speeding tickets despite having had manoeuvered the major highway at a whopping 40mph-- had the pennyloafers and cardigan been a shame? No, I don't think so, I think it's an act of deliverance and discovery God is working on. She had come to Houston Susan Wolfe, mother of 5/ nurse extraordinaire...she was going home "sidewalk_sue" Keep your eyes out for her!

Great time! So glad I was able to come with my good friend, Melissa.

I agree with one of the other posts:

Trendy - Context = Freaky was so stinkin' funny! Loved that one.

Loved getting a deeper understanding of Psalm 119, too.

And, finally THRILLED that was able to visit Houston's First Baptist for the message on Sunday AM. I came to Houston for the Siesta event but God had me coming for THAT message. Honestly, I needed to hear that one. So, it's cool - a deeper understanding of the word from Mama Siesta and some practical knowledge from Pastor Greg that I can take home and start working with on my marriage. BONUS!

And, it was so fun to meet other Siestas...the girls I met from Virginia are just too cool. So sad that they are all the way (literally) across the country from me. :(

Thanks for putting this on.

Wish I could explain what 2009 meant to me, as God spoke in His word. This weekend was the perfect culmination of it all.

I loved it when Beth said that she felt God was pleased with us for memorizing His Word.--Just that morning I'd told my husband that I've never sensed God's pleasure more. What a delight to delight Him! It's overwhelming, really.

I also related to Beth's comment, "If someone read your spiral, they'd know all about you...." Each passage I memorized is precious and personal. Some I can still barely recite without tears.

Beth, thank you for always pointing us to the living and active Word. You've started a hunger in me. Melissa and Amanda, you serve us on the blog and by sharing your mom.-Thank you! And to the LPM staff...you all blew me away this weekend. When I walked in the church, I was greeted so warmly at the tee-shirt table that it seemed like you all were waiting for ME to arrive. Thank you all.--We know God better because of your faithful service.

May God richly bless you all, for being such a blessing to us!

Here's a funny story:

After arriving at the Omni Thursday, we didn't park our car in the garage and simply left it on the curb long enough to check in and then come back out to go to the Galleria.

Siesta Wendy (whom I'd just met at the airport 2 hours earlier) and I headed to the Galleria. I had packed my GPS and it found our way for us so nicely. Well, on the way back, a main road was closed due to the water problem. I cautioned Wendy NOT to take the dark service road directly before the roadblock as we didn't know where it would lead us in a strange city. Safety first right?

35 minutes later, another trip around 610 because the GPS kept leading us to the blocked road, a million apologies from me for getting us lost, and several cries of frustration, we finally found our way back to the Omni. As Wendy drove to the back of the Omni to the free parking garage, we very quickly saw the many emergency trucks through the parking deck walls. The trucks were the men working on the water problem on the infamous BLOCKED ROAD. And the service road, I was so afraid to take would have led us 200 yards into the Omni parking lot.

Wendy looked at me; I looked at her. And we just burst out laughing. Yeah, two small town girls driving in Houston. So much for the GPS!

Beth, Melissa, Amanda, and LPM staff thank you so much for such a great time, for your hard work and warm welcome. I'm always amazed of how much I learn from Beth's teachings. I must admit that right before I was about to "pass it on" to a friend of mine I stopped pressed my hand to my chest and told her that I would email her copies of my notes so we could both review them together. Thanks Beth for being real.

Amanda,

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only perfectionist who likes any form of writen word better than spoken for the sheer ability to edit. If only I could get it right the first time...right?

Funny you said, "it was just so cool to see God loving on them." That's just how I discribed the event to my church ladies (who were also colored green and pink). I love how God loves on each of us just how we need like when Gpd slips in one of my verses somewhere (i.e. sermons, the radio, etc.)

And as far as notes from the message, my ladies were also told that we studied "Psalms 119 which has 178 verses in it." (I know I said that somewhere else but I'll never forget it due to how much Beth had us emphasise it.)

My favorite part of the event was fellowshipping with the Godly ladies from this site. You each are so dear to my heart and even more so now.

BTY: this was my second time ever going to a Siesta event{Made it to the one in New Orleans a few years ago.} and my first time with scripture memorization like this. I grew up in church and so I did do some as a child (John 3:16-17 are the only other ones I had memorized before Beth started speaking about it which got me into it some before the challenge, but I wasn't nerly as dedicated to that[on my own] as I was this[with all of you]).

Ok... so... yeah... I'm long winded, it seems, too. I guess cause I feel like all our hearts have been knitted together through the Spirit somehow...You jnow what I mean?

Dear Amanda

Thank you so much for the recap! I so missed being there, but praying for the event helped me feel like I was taking part.

I love the fact that one of my favorite siestas Brittany won first prize for her bog name! She and I met in Nashville at our first siesta gathering. She is so precious.

I echo Kim's sentiments. I have been on the blog since day one and have met the most incredible women! This community is so special to me!

Thank you sweet Amanda for all you do for us! Praying for your mom as she prepares for Bible study. And sending hugs to Melissa the only one of the Moore girls I have never hugged in person.

Love ya lots!

So so so much fun!

Beth's teaching as always left me wanting more of Christ!

In my 7 hour wait at Houston's IAH I ran into about 13 (if I counted correctly!) Siestas. Many stopped and talked and had pics taken with Moose. I wish I had a better memory for their names. There wasn't a one of them I wouldn't mind bringing home with me :)

Thank-you Amanda and everyone at LPM to make the weekend so wonderful....right down to the weather!!

Can't wait till the next time!

THANK YOU Beth, Amanda, Melissa, Travis, and all the LPM staff who were part of this amazing weekend!!!!! Soooooooo many good things happened [can't list them all - but here are a few]:

*The WORSHIP was absolutely wonderful!

*It was a JOY to meet so many of the siestas!

*GOD SPOKE to our hearts through His Word through Beth as always!

*LAUGHTER filled the weekend and truly was medicine to my soul.

*GOD'S WORD was PLANTED DEEPLY in our hearts as we recited our verses to one another. How grateful I am for this treasure!

*My siestas gave me a NEW NAME at the chocolate bar on Saturday night... After driving in Houston for over 24 hours and trying to follow a confused GPS...I just gave up and decided to drive on a sidewalk when someone looked like they were backing up into our car.
I am SO grateful for the angels that kept us safe on those crazy Houston highways. How do y'all do that everyday?!?!

Love You All!

I still have goose bumps just thinking about the weekend! Listening to everyone say their verses in the court yard was the most moving experience! The low rumble of voices and the soft breeze in the air....I have never, in my 30+ years of being a believer, felt so close to God.

I, like Ginger, felt like I needed a more exciting blog name. Many of you gave me great suggestions, but on the plane ride home I was going through my notes and came to #3: "in deep want of wonder".....that's right! Meet Wonder Woman!

Thank you LPM for everything and thank you Deidre, Heather, Yvonne, Bethany, Traci, Tammy, Audrey and Terry for the privilege of hanging out with you! I will never be the same.

Ginger-I love "Silver Sass". That gets my vote!

Blessing to all,

You don't have to post this but Satan is defiantly on the prowl since the event. My brother and sister-in-law are fighting. My mind is very confused about things of the heart and there's not enough time nor energy in the day for anything...

Lord, please, I know Your ways are higher...and in Isaiah 55 You also expressed that "while You are near"(I take this to mean while You can be found, because I also know and believe You are unmovable and unmoving) one should seek after You and I know with all I am I have...but Lord I never want to be in a place I can't see You...My family the entire family so desperately needs You...just help me to be all You would have me be strengthen and sustain... none of us can do this without You. And Lord thank You again for Beth, for giving her what she needed to endure the weekend,,,please heal her completely as only You can. In Jesus name I pray-Amen.

Amanda,
Please know how appreciative I am for all the hard work that went into this past weekend. I had an absolute blast. My mom just could not understand why I would travel from Kansas to Houston to learn some Bible verses. I could do that at my kitchen table. She doesn't understand how exciting it is to gather with a group of ladies who love to study God's word. I was blessed to be able to spend a little time at the hotel with my mom. When I returned to the hotel after Friday's session I walked in, and she said my face just glowed. The music, the laughter, the siesa's and the CAKE!! was all just remarkable. Then Saturday what can I say. The opportunity to hear your mom a second time and the worship, then to get alone with another siesta and share the scriptures that we memorized felt like I was sharing the events of my life with her.
I think we need to get together more often and just be together. Any siesta's in the Topeka, KS area?
Again, thanks for pulling off a weekend that we will not soon forget.

Can I just say...Thank You, Jesus for GPS and for hooking us up with a couple of siestas that knew how to use the GPS!! Emily, you rock! I'm not sure how to use the fancy link stuff, so I'll just write my recap here. What a FANTASTIC weekend! For those of you who stayed at the Omni, how about those omelets?! And the massive quantity of bacon! Have mercy! Okay, I'm getting sidetracked! Went to Houston with one of my super close friends and had a great time! Hooked up with two siestas from out of state as soon as we walked in the lobby of the hotel! Kelly and Emily, we love you! Kelly and I formed a bond that will last forever. A true siesta will check your teeth after you eat! Woo! Gave Emily the iPhone and she got us to the church on time! Travis, thank you for such awesome praise and worship! Already downloaded some songs! Beth, I just don't know what to say except thank you. Thank you for making us feel loved! Thank you for allowing God to use you in such a mighty way! I went to Houston just wanting a hug from you and to be able to tell you thank you. My friend was praying that I would get my hug. I got two hugs!! My friend and I have decided to continue our scripture memory in 2010! I do believe my ears heard it said that we would do this again in 2011? WooHoo!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Love all three of you so much!

What a blessed and glorious event!

I keep laughing when I think of Travis teaching us the "nose scrunch" so we could sing "Do it Lord" correctly! And I was enriched and refreshed to get my run-on sentence from Psalm 119 as well as getting to demonstrate the fruit of my work by reciting my memory verses.

What I learned and received from our Lord will carry me far. Thank you!

Amanda thank you for everything. It was a wonderful weekend - thanks for everyone who had a part in putting it together.

Siesta SMT Celebration: Refreshed, Rejuvenated, Renewed Hope

Refreshed (adjective: with restored energy)

My refreshing comes from just getting away from the every-day tasks and responsibilities in life.

* Going to a new city is fun and exciting. Even if you get lost going to the church and back to the hotel!! At least Saturday morning Amanda (Beth's daughter) came to the parking lot at the same time as us so we just followed her to church - ahhhh no getting lost!
* The weather was perfect - I left 39 degrees and rain for sun and 75 degrees. There were even people swimming in the hotel pool on Friday.
* The food was so delicious everywhere I went - especially Mexican. Mexican in Raleigh will never be the same again.
* Meeting new friends was awesome. The gal I rode with from hotel-to-church-and-back was from Corpus Christi, Texas, and we had another gal from north of Houston. Had dinner with ladies from Illinois and Arizona. I roomed with a gal from Washington state at the Omni (nice hotel!!) who told me all about their women's ministry. I connected with someone from Atlanta who traveled alone, and felt I had a kindred spirit with - loved her! I also met fellow North Carolinians - some who I had emailed before the event and we "bumped" into each other there! How cool is that?

Rejuvenated (verb: return to life; get or give new life or energy)

Beth couldn't have been funnier than any time I have seen or heard her. I wish there was a video of the whole thing so you guys could share in the fun we had. We started out Saturday morning by Beth telling us that Melissa had called her a chicken nugget that morning. Melissa corrected her to say she had just called her a nugget. Then Amanda said that if Melissa had visited Chick Fil A enough she'd know chicken nuggets are round, lumpy and brown, and mom is not that! (it was something like that) Beth was just on a roll from there - she said she hadn't had her Starbucks yet to calm her down!! Crazy, I tell you, crazy! It's so good to laugh.

Travis Cottrell came and led worship. His voice is so awesome. Loved the worship.

Renewed Hope (renewed adjective: restored to a new condition hope - noun: the general feeling that some desire will be fulfilled)

Beth's sharing came out of Psalm 119. She made up 8 points out of the various parts of this scripture that has 176 verses, which made up a sentence that said:

I'm a resident alien seeking direction in deep want of wonder, in peril and need, troubled by humanity - especially my own - knowing that to follow is the only free road for a straying sheep longing to be found.

One of the key messages (if not the key) in her talk was about knowing God's will and direction for you life. She said we don't need to know what's ahead of us more than our arm can reach out in front of us. All we need is a flashlight - not a spot light. In some cases, we couldn't handle much more than what's just ahead of us. God will give us the next step. We need to know what He called us to do right now - don't have to see or know everything down the road.

Seeing the women scattered across the court yard and campus at the time we had to recite our verses was amazing.

I love my little spiral binder.....I love what God spoke to me last year...and I loved the celebration of it all in Houston. God is good. I am blessed. RRR :)

Thanks to Beth, Amanda, Melissa, Travis, and the LPM team for such an awesome weekend. I don't think I will be able to get over it for awhile. Loved every second of it.

How special it was to put a face with siestas! And the scripture time was powerful, wow. Beth, I so wish I could wear skinny jeans and tall boots like you! I may have to go shopping this weekend and see if I can pull off that look too:)

Yes thank you Beth, Amanda, Melissa, and everyone at LPM and HFBC for giving us a great gift!

I love seeing God's fingerprint on things, and if the sunny 78 degree weather wasn't enough (which it totally was for me - loved the warm sunshine - Thank You Lord!), I couldn't help but notice the coordination in verses.

Here's what I mean - out of ALL the verses in the whole bible, the 24 that I chose last year came up often through the weekend.

Beth used one in her teaching (Ps 19:13), another was the main verse in the bible study class I attended Sunday morning @ HFBC (Col 3:12), another was read aloud during the 9:30 worship service (Rom 5:1), another was used in a Henry Cloud book I was reading on the flight out of Houston (Eph 3:17-18), and just before my plane landed in Syracuse, another was the last verse used in a Charles Stanley podcast I was listening to (Is 26:3).

In addition, 3 are part of my homework right now, and no, I had no idea I'd be taking classes on Isaiah and Ephesians last year when I picked those verses.

So out of the whole bible, 1/3 of my verses were used in teachings that I received just in these few days. Call me silly, but I think that's cool.

Thanks LPM, I had a good time, which means a lot because I am not good at enjoying things. And thanks to my new friends Sheila, Janice and Eleanor.

Beth and LPM team - May God continue to bless you, your families and your ministry.

Wow what a weekend! I got to spend extended time with my girl Laura P and just had such a great time!
Thank you LPM staff, Ms. Beth, Amanda and Melissa..I felt so welcomed and loved on - you are the best. I was very bummed that I did not get a chance to personally meet, hug and get a pic with you Moore girls, but I'm blessed to have been able to come despite that! Had no idea you all came back to the foyer on Sat...darn!

I have to say that I was dying when Beth described her air guitar adventure, bc Ms. Beth, you and my 6.5 year old son Joshua Ryan should be BFF's..seriously! That child plays air guitar every chance he gets and he puts his WHOLE HEART into it..he just can't help himself. His favorite two air guitar songs are Song of Hope (Heaven Come Down) by Robbie Seay Band and Your Grace is Enough by Matt Redmon...the air guitar also graced the stage numerous times at our church's youth choir performances and he ushered in the Wise Men w/a performance at our Christmas program! HA! So that was hilarious to me!

I also TOTALLY related to calling an inanimate object, like a microwave door, "a meanie". I happen to have a very mean cabinet door in my kitchen and bathroom...

I was sooo blessed by Pastor Greg's message on Sunday! I think I came to Houston for that! It seriously hit home in such a way that I know God's fingerprints were all over that for me. He is sooo good! I can't wait to keep up the scripture memorization on my own in 2010...You started a good thing here Siesta Mama! I love you!!

So, thanks for the amazing weekend Moore girls, brimming and overflowing with Jesus, worship, laughter and all that fun and much, much needed girl stuff.
Houston was a blast! Can't wait to read all those blog posts!

All the hard work that went into preparing for the weekend, and all the fun details, did not go unnoticed - we all felt really, really special!

Thank you, Beth, for all the sacrifices you make (especially privacy) in order to minister to women. I pray that the "normalcy" of life that you have so graciously given up will be replaced with incredible blessings from the Lord. He has used you to change soooo many lives...mine included!

And thank you Amanda & Melissa for sharing your mom with us. I'm guessing it's hard sometimes...when you just want your mom to yourself. You are both so gracious and loving...I pray that the Lord will richly bless you both!!

Dear LPM staff, Amanda, Melissa and Siesta Mama - thank you is not big enough to express my appreciation for this past weekend! My friend Beth and I were also a bit emotional as we quoted our verses to each other. As Mama Beth said, that spiral is a personal glimpse into your soul. And to think of how God had used His Word in our lives this past year and feel His pleasure and blessing over us as we wrapped it up was amazing.
Thank you so much for all the planning, hard work, hospitality and love you poured over us this weekend. Praying that the encouragement it was to all us siestas is returned to y'all tenfold!

LPM Staff - I cannot say thank you enough! What a GREAT time it was on Friday and Saturday! Thank you for all of the effort and time you put into coordinating and executing such an event for all of the Siestas!

I was so blessed this weekend - I went by myself, but met people from all over - it was so much fun to see how far people traveled! I know I sometimes take for granted that I get to attend the Houston bible studies, when so many would give so much to be able to do so. This weekend gave me a fresh appreciation for that blessing in my life... I also LOVED hearing Travis [cot-rull] (not [cu-trell]) - I had never heard him before, but I'll defintely be doing some downloading soon... I was singing 'Do it Lord' for the rest of the weekend...

I loved getting to say hello to Big Mama as well, as I love reading her blog. She (and Caroline) make me laugh often...

Saying my memory verses was special as well. I was so nervous, and before I knew it, I was on my last one! I was so excited, and happy to know that these verses are imprinted on my heart. I think they will always be significantly special to me, even moreso because of this weekend.

And I'll close with one of the most amazing parts of the weekend to me. I've been SO EXCITED about the release of Beth's new book, So Long Insecurity. I know, without a doubt, that I have insecurity issues, which many of my verses this past year reflect (and many of my verses in 2010 will as well). When it was mentioned that if you memorized all 24 verses that there would be something special for you, I had secret hopes that it would be the book. I even prayed about it, letting the Lord know that I really felt that I needed this book like no other right now. I've told friends about it's upcoming release, everything. To say I've been anxiously awaiting it is an understatement. So as we walked back in from sharing our scriptures (a little late as we got to talking...) they were doing the giveaways. And everyone that was winning was on the OTHER side of the room. But then, then Melissa called my name (AND she pronounced my last name correctly - color me impressed!) - and I WON THE BOOK! I immediately shared it with my scripture memory partner that I had prayed for it, and God provided. Sometimes it IS the little things...

I got home and started reading immediately. I'm already in the middle of chapter 4 and can't wait to continue when I get home. (I'll also re-read it with the group in a few weeks.) What an unexpected and exciting blessing though...

May God Bless you all throughout 2010 - I'm so happy to be a SIESTA!!!

Beth, Amanda, Melissa, Travis and the awesome LPM staff:

Thank you so much for the gift of the SMT Celebration. I was privileged to attend and it was a trip I will never forget. Meeting fellow bloggers face-to-face, worshiping together, laughing, crying and hanging out together was an absolute blast!!

The worship ushered us in the the presence of God and prepared our hearts for the Word. The LPM staff is the greatest -- so friendly and helpful.

Beth, thank you for giving of yourself -- without a doctor's release. You're a trooper! Also, thank you for the wonderful teaching sessions. We are all truly blessed by your call and ministry to women.

Much love,
Sherry

I have checked so many times for an update this weekend b/c I wanted to be there so badly with you all! I had been planning since March to come, but wasn't able due to a friend's wedding. BUT this weekend was an answer to prayer, many of the prayers I poured out to God this last year through memorization. AND HE ANSWERED! HE HEARD MY CRY! He is faithful. I am SOOOO sad I couldn't attend, but wouldn't have want to missed His great plans for me! :)

Which, while I'm on the topic of Indiana, BecKiev, my middle school boys were deeply, deeply impressed that a Scripture Memorizing Siesta was also a Colts Fan Who Made Sunday's Game. I'm pretty sure all of Siestaville was elevated a few notches in their opinions.

--And, this was too funny, while bidding goodnight to my 6th grade son yesterday evening, an interesting question about who wrote the Bible ensued. "What's the longest chapter, Mom? How long is it?"

"176 verses, that's how long Ps 119 is!" My gosh did I feel smart. ~ Couldn't believe this came up in casual conversation just a couple days after learning it. Thank you, Beth.

Thank you, LPM staff, for working so hard to make this event a special one for all of us.

I was there with my sister, Ginny, (she was one of the cute pregnant girls!) and a friend of mine, Kathy. We had so much fun. I'm glad to see that we weren't the only ones with GPS/direction problems. Whew! Big city livin' is not for me.

My heart was touched by the sight of pairs of women scattered everywhere speaking Scripture verses to one another. 500+ amazing testimonies to God's faithfulness were represented. Wow! Nothing compares to that.

To each woman who traveled to Houston solo: I commend you for your courage. I hope each of you received a special blessing.

I have enjoyed this journey with all of you.

Amanda, Beth, Melissa and the whole LPM staff - thank you so much for an amazing weekend, one I will treasure in my heart for a very long time.

The entire celebration event was fantastic - I felt incredibly blessed and spoiled. Even though I came alone, I was able to meet some wonderful women whom I now call friends. I loved Beth's teaching and the awesome worship with Travis. However, the most amazing moment for me was actually reciting our scriptures. I had no idea how moving it would be to both hear another woman's verses and to recite my own. When it was my turn, I had to warn my sweet memory partner Karla (who I had just met!) that I was probably going to cry through the whole thing - and as I recited my 24 verses (and yes cried) - I really felt God's presence and comfort in a very powerful way. Truly an experience I won't soon forget.

So thanks again to the Moore girls and the LPM blog for the accountability of the SSMT - it definitely impacted my life in 2009. And of course, thank God for his transforming Word.

Love,

This past few days has beens uch a whirlwind, I just got time to get out my computer and check the blog. After we left the event I flew home and packed to leaveMonday for a 12 day holiday to Playa Del Carmen , Mexico. I am now looking out at the beautiful Carribean Sea and praising God for the beauty of His creation.

I cannot tell how much I was blessed by the SMT event. My Siesta Jaycee and I had been working on our verses all year. She is the type that can memorize her verse the first time she sees it (I hate that) and I on the other hand have the hardest time. God blessed me to be able to memorize most of them. That came in very handy since I have been having a lot of procedures on my back this year. It is comforting to hide His Word in your heart and be able to recall them when you need to be able to ignore what is going on around you.

I just want to say that the message was right on for me. I have been fiercly praying for God's purpose in this season in my life and I went home with a peace that He will reveal Himself. I just need to keep taking it one step at a time.

Thank you all so much for making this event happen and just want you to know that I left with exactly what I needed...

Love you all at LPM!

I want to thank Beth, Amanda, Melissa, Travis and the LPM staff, as well as members of the Church, I think her name was Marty. We just had the most blessed weekend with all of you. Your humble attitudes and the way you just lavish the love on us is inspiring. We met Marty as we were coming down the hall at Church and she showed us the large Sanctuary where Church is usually held. It was awesome. She was so genuine and kind. We loved her immediately. As well as all the LPM staff, who just loved us and we love them. I would not know how much I would need the building up of God's grace until I got home.

When I arrived home my husband informed me that my very best friend, since we were in 3rd grade, had passed away from breast cancer. I knew she was not well and the Holy Spirit had layed upon me to visit her the day before I left for Houston. It was her 51st birthday and I drove the two hours to New Hampshire to spend some time with her. I told her how much I loved her and that I would be back when I arrived home from Texas. That very afternoon she went into a coma and died the next evening.

In all my grief though I am praising the Lord for taking her from her pain and for placing my need to see her in my heart. I am blessed that I got to tell her how much I loved her.

Thank you Lord for the blessing received over the weekend and for the Word that you have placed in my heart over the year. For such a time as this.

Many blessing to you all -- Lori

Thank you so much for your recap, Amanda. I can honestly say finally that I feel more joy than jealousy. God knew all along that I wasn't supposed to be there. My husband really needed me last weekend as his job seems to be coming to an end. We spent many hours in prayer and discussion, asking God to guide us.

If any siestas are reading this, please pray for us, especially this week. Some possibilities are coming together and we need God's wisdom.

I can't tell you how much my 2009 verses are getting me through this. I have been reviewing them in the same order, and for January 15, my passage is Phil. 4:4-7. Now they're already in my heart so when I start to get anxious, the Holy Spirit quietly prompts me to repeat these verses until I sense God's peace again, the peace that transcends all understanding.

I appreciate any prayers said on our behalf, and I can't wait to meet you all someday.

Guess what Siestas......I was at lunch today (at school) and one of the teachers walked by my table while I had some of my pictures out....she saw the pink boas and asked me if I had gone.......I didn't even know she was a blog Siesta! How funny. She told me she's disappointed that we aren't memorizing this year but I told her that we may be doing it next year and she's already excited about joining in and perhaps being a part of what hopefully, will be another celebration!!!! I don't work at a Christian school so I was really excited and she was animated about it too! Yipppeeeeee!

Still thinking about a more suitable blog name....I've had a couple of votes on Silver Sass but not sure yet. Anyone?????

The most interesting part of this particular post has been the perspective of so many siestas. The weekend offered so much more than just a time to see and hear the Moore girls. Most of the blog posts have pictures of the Moore girls, but I am inspired to see and read about so many friendships and relationships being confirmed and created. I knew I would not be able to attend, but was very curious to see how the wonderful weekend would be seen by others. Others have not failed any of us left on the outside...the stories have been inspiring, motivating and encouraging. Thanks to one and all!!

Beth, I don't know how you do events with so many ladies and are able to just walk away to the next event. Seeing these pictures...oh my goodness...no wonder you are exhausted sometimes. The emotional roller coaster ride of seeing so many faces, but not being to talk one-on-one....I have heard you comment on this in different bible studies, but it sure has come to life in these blogs and pictures.

God met me in such an overwhelming way from very beginning to the very end I couldn't hold back the tears on the flight home. Travelling alone that far was a BIG DEAL for me and GOD MADE IT SO SO SO WORTH IT!!! Gonna take several blog posts to write about it all... but will summarize with this:

If the whole weekend was a Chik-Fil-A (which I had for the first time there!) sandwich, my time with Jesus alone was the bread, the Celebration and teaching was the meat and my time with such sweet Siestas was the sauce that brought it all together. I am forever grateful and have a renewed hunger for some REVELATION. HALLELUJAH!!!

Dear Friends at LPM & Siestas,

176!!! ; ) --Psalm 119 is the first passage I read so many years ago when I took a serious interest in God's Word. I was floored it was the passage for the weekend!

I am truly grateful for all the hard work and expense that went into the Siesta weekend. Not only was admission free but you blessed us with gifts of food, a beautiful calendar, new friendships, laughter, a wonderful message, powerful worship and the Lord's good pleasure w/ what we were able to do with His Word...TOGETHER.

I cried sweet tears as I recited my verses to my Siesta sister and then took pictures in amazement at all you beautiful women doing the same.

TREMENDOUS WOMEN, TREMENDOUS TIME, TREMENDOUS LPM TEAM, HOW TREMENDOUS HIS WORD!

Warmly,

Beth, Amanda, Melissa and SMT Celebrators....I NEED TO ASK YOUR FORGIVENESS!!!

Friday night, as the doors were opened at 6:00 and we scurried in to get a good seat (behaving like groupie teenagers), I was thrilled with the spot of 3rd row, aisle seat, center stage! I could hardly stand the excitement that raced through my bones. In preparation I dug through my purse to find my phone so that I could silence it. After searching to no avail I assumed that I left it back at the hotel. A few minutes later I searched again just to make sure that it wasn't hiding in there....still no luck. By this time, it was 7:00.

Now I will fast forward to Beth's message as she shared from her heart in God's Word. In the midst of the quiet sacred moment all of a sudden you could hear the chimes of a texted message from someone's phone. Well, my immediate thought was."I know it's not mine, because my phone is back at the hotel." As many know and I am sure heard it would continue to chime about every 2 min. As it continued my thoughts were, whom ever that phone belongs to they need to turn it off! A couple chimes later, my new friend, Janet, checks her phone and said that it was off and I said, "Mine’s not here." As time went on and the chimes went off, it seemed to get louder and seemed to get closer! Then my heart began to panic as I wondered, "What if my phone is really in my purse?" By this time my heart is pounding, my hands sweating and I am praying, "Father, silence that phone........I know you can do it!" Well, He didn't answer that prayer, but he gave me the boldness to finally discretely reach for my purse.........and low and behold, my hand went straight for the side pocket where my phone had been hiding all along and I quickly silence it.

Y'll.....I AM SO SORRY!!!!!!!! The last thing I would ever want to do would be to distract anyone from hearing the sharing of God's Word and especially from Beth! I wish I could roll back the hands of time and redo that evening, but I can't. So all I can do is say....

PLEASE FORGIVE ME

I love you all!

I know this is late but I thought I would plant it before I passed it! :)
I think that the part that touched me most about the weekend was authentic reaching out to one another that happened. So many came alone and yet so many bonded! Different areas, different ages, so many differences but one thing common..a love for Jesus.
The second favorite was watching you and your sister and mom interact with each other. Such a blessing and such affirmation for the way my daughters and I are!
Thirdly, was the authenticity that we have come to love so much about you all. So much Jesus, yet so much like us! Thank you for being so gracious and stepping out of your comfort zone!
And yes, the teaching and praise was wonderful too!
Thank you so much!
