The Passing of a Mean Machine

CRITICAL UPDATE: It is 8:45 the next morning and my man has saved the day! Yes, I said "Saved the day!" He said he spent most of the night tossing and turning about how he could out-smart my coffee machine and get it to work...at least a few more days. Up the man popped this morning and flew to the cabinet where he found his oversized toothpicks. (They look like something Gulliver would have used to get the pot roast from last week dislodged from between his teeth.) Keith stuck the toothpick into the steamer in hopes that it would plug it up, make it stop blowing steam, and signal the other part of the machine to work. AND IT DID!!! IT DID!!!!!!!! Even after I'd humbly prepared 8 cups in my new pot! (I'd decided to be more mature and thankful this morning. Usually a night does the trick on my petty attitude especially if I think God is getting annoyed.) Please see brilliant demonstration below. Give special attention to the toothpick in the steamer. It's leaking a tad so next we will be wrapping a little duct tape around it. Thank you for caring, Siestas! I just knew you would. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I have recorded the drama below the updated picture.

The original post. A night that will live in infamy:

Seven years ago this Christmas, my man surprised me with one of the most extravagant gifts of our entire marriage. This Jura Capresso Coffee Maker from Williams Sonoma:

If he's having an on year, he tends to splurge at Christmas time because of the inordinate amount of time he spends at the deer lease from early November to late January. These spurgings are his way of saying, "I'm sorry I've been gone so long, please don't divorce me before deer season ends, and can I go one more time for just a few more weeks? I promise I'll be the happiest husband you've ever had when I get home." The year of this particular gift he stayed in my good graces all the way till the first of February (when I've ordinarily ceased speaking to him) because I'd never fallen more in love with an inanimate object in all my life. This, my dear Siestas, has been my best friend for 7 beautiful years. She makes the perfect cup of coffee every single time. Perfect aroma. Perfect weight. Perfect crema. Here she is with my very favorite cup and saucer:

Today she passed. Just like that. She passed. There I was in my jammies on an exquisite Saturday morning at home with Autumn leaves blowing from the trees and birds singing and circling my feeders. I was chomping at the bit to sit on the back porch with that first cup of the morning and take it all in. And for the first time in seven glorious years, she just couldn't deliver. All she could do was sit there and blow steam. Literally. I nearly went into a state of shock. Keith threw on his jeans as fast as he could, grabbed the keys to his Ford Super Duty, and guided me to the truck still in my jammies. You know where we went. Where else could we possibly go?? Of course, we did the drive thru. My knees were too weak to walk in.

I survived the morning on a grande nonfat dry cappuccino and pulled myself together to spend a great day at the Nutcracker Market with Amanda. Since there was also a Starbucks there on the premises, I had all a soul could stand and didn't think about my morning mishap until I got home that evening. You know how a mind tries to block out the unthinkable. Keith had also promised me we'd pack up the coffee maker and send it off to be repaired and I'd found considerable comfort in it. A brief separation. That's all.

When I walked in the door this evening, all the sudden the realization hit me.

"Oh, no!"

Keith: "What, Honey? Oh, no, what?"

"My coffee maker!"

Keith: "You didn't remember to get us a back up?"

"NO!"

Keith: "Bummer. It could be a rough morning."

Mind you, it was late by now. I grabbed my keys and ran back to the car and headed to our only nearby store - a Walgreen's - to find a Black and Decker or Mr. Coffee or SOMETHING to tie us over until we could find something more suitable to tie us over in the long run. Maybe I'd have my best friend back by Christmas. I looked all over the drugstore. My pulse sped up. I scurried to check out and asked in the nicest but fastest way if I could have some assistance.

"My coffee maker passed and I need something for the next few days until we can find a better back up. I can't find a coffee pot anywhere in the store! Do you guys have one?"

Sales clerk: "Absolutely! Let me help you find it."

So relieved. But that word "it" bothered me a tad. Surely she didn't mean "it" as in "one."

Yep. That's what she meant, all right. Here it is:

I nearly had to be helped to the car. Sometimes we have to make hard choices. Other times we just don't have any choice at all. This is what I'll be drinking my coffee out of in the morning.

Not even a Mr. Danged Coffee!! Who ever heard of this brand? Oh, I know! I know! It has no eternal significance. It's totally trivial and pitifully temporal but I've been waking up to fresh grinding beans for seven solid years and many of those mornings I've taken that first hot sip and said out loud, "Thank You, God." And maybe I'm making something up but I've wanted to believe He was up there saying, "You're welcome." Do you remember about a month ago when I told you guys I'd given up something for over a month? My eyes nearly bugged out of my head when I saw so many of you suggest that I'd given up coffee. Do you honestly think I would have waited a month before telling you that? Seriously? I would have called for an emergency support group.

OK, I'll go get a grip. In no time at all, our old girl will be repaired and we'll be back in business. Until then, mornings could be tender around the Moore home.

Oh Dear . . . that definitely isn't a way to wake in the morning. I must have my fresh ground coffee in the mornings. I have found that I prefer my home ground more than any other I have tried. That being said, there is still something about the Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks.

Sun-Drop is so much easier, you just pop the tab, hear the fizzle of carbonation and down that first glorious gulp. It also has the added benefit of a rather Godly name, if you will...Son-drop :D

The bad part is...and it can be quite deadly if you're around me and this happens...you can only buy Sun-drop around the southeastern part of NC and the northeastern part of SC. Which translates into...me remembering, or not, to pack enough for a trip, say to Costa Rica and not being one short.

Ha! We won't go into the details of the wild-eyed woman, frothing at the mouth, blabbering something about jumping overboard to swim home...I do live on the coast and I knew that the bodies of water connected somehow. That's why the Panama Canal was built wasn't it?

Needless to say, I feel your pain, Siesta!

That is too funny! No wait.... I am sorry for your temporary loss. At least he did not drive you to a fast food chain for their coffee or do I dare say the words....try to go instant on you. Then you might have needed to banish him to the deer lease. However, he may go willingly if the ole gal isn't repaired soon.

I am so rolling, and so relating to this post! I am thinking of few NIGHT-MARISH mornings where we discovered that we were out of coffee, and our world was absolutely turned upside down! Into the car in PJ's sweet hubby would go, to drive thru in a hurried panic and save the day! He is wanting a new coffee maker for Christmas, so I will be interested to know if you get a new one, and what the choice is. You obviously have your priorities straight... Jesus, hubby, children, COFFEE!!!!! Amen, and Amen!
Joyfully,

I don't really have an addiction to coffee. However, I spent the weekend at the Lifeway National Women's Leadership Forum and drank entirely too many Venti Nonfat Extra Hot Mochas Lite Whip. I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna sleep till Wednesday.

My condolences to you and Keith on the passing of your beautiful girl. May she be revived like Lazarus. If not, may she rest in peace. And may there be an awesome sale at Williams Sonoma for her replacement.

YES Thank You Lord:):)

I once lived in a house that had a similar beautiful coffee machine. You push a button and the lovely thing grinded up coffee and dispensed a perfect single cup of coffee. I feel your pain Beth! That machine died while I was there and I just about asked the elders to come pray over it!

Beth, you know I love you...you KNOW this. But girl you gotta get a grip. You're gonna be ok. YOU WILL! I'm sure that the off-brand, cheesy, anemic-looking coffee maker will be just fine. Oh who are we kidding? This next month (or LONGER!) could be rough. Just keep saying "It's only coffee". I know you don't believe it. But maybe if you say it enough and with sincerity...you'll hardly notice the difference.

My heart goes out to you. sniff.

I love Lomonosov china. I have that exact pattern (Forget Me Not). I told Mr. Yellow Hat he could either fork over the cash so I could buy it in Kyiv (a fantastic deal) or he could spend some time shopping in St. Petersburg and tote around an entire tea set to bring back to me (I didn't take the Russia trip- pregnant and just didn't think I could stomach the train ride to Moscow in the summer and on to St. Pete. especially after my housekeeper told me that she and her husband experimented with deodorant to find the most effective use of it- application before you start sweating or afterward; I had a suspicion she wasn't the only one experimenting). Anyway, so sorry to hear of your loss albeit temporary.

My condolences. I understand your grief. I had an episode where I ended up in the emergency room a couple of months ago that was caffeine related. I had to go off coffee. Verrry sad. It wasn't even giving up the caffeine so much as the waking up to a soothing warm coffee tasting mug. After internet research I found a totally caffeine free herbal coffee. NOT the same, but better than nothing. Sort of. Blessings on your no name coffee pot.

I can so relate... my first coffee maker was a Mr. Coffee and it was given to me as a high school graduation present from my youth pastor. I have since been through several coffee pots... but I do remember one EARLY Sunday morning and she didn't deliver. My husband and I looked at each other in a state of shock. We live thirty minutes from the nearest WalMart, K-Mart, Walgreens etc... It was before Sherman even had a Starbucks! I threw on my clothes, grabbed the keys and off I went. I returned a little over an hour later, new coffee pot in tow. By 7am we were enjoying our morning coffee! Oh the things we will do for our morning java! I'll be praying for your "old girl" to be fixed quick! Thanks for sharing Beth!!!

You need a grinder and french press. It makes great coffee and you just boil up some water, pour it in, wait 5 minutes, press the plunger down and a wonderful cup of coffee. It makes a great back-up. I share your coffee affection. Love you and all you do for the Kingdom. Blessings on you and I will pray that the coffee in the morning is sufficent.

Beth, you are hilarious! But I feel the same way about my hair dryer. It's one of those old-fashioned hooded dryers. I can roll my hair on plastic curlers and sit up under it just like at the salon. I've had it for going on 20 years. They don't make this model any more, so I'm hanging on to it for dear life.

Beth: I am so sorry - this is a hard thing. That is a pitiful looking replacement, but I do think I could see the word "gourmet" on the box, but it is obviously "nit" a Williams-Sonoma. (LOVE that store.)

I, too, am a deer season widow. I've already gotten the "schedule announcement" for from now until Thanksgiving...spoken to me just a few hours ago. More like told, than spoken. (But of course you do know that it all depends on when the RUT is.)

However, my birthday falls during the RUT most years...and this year I got a nice new Brighton purse and my birthday isn't until Monday...of course, the rut is late this year.

I'll take it.

Love you much!

Okay . . . I think I can help you in the meantime with some PERFECT measurements -

In your new "generic" machine place 3 Scoops (Tbsp) packed espresso into filter and add 3/4 cup cold water . . . start coffee maker.

Measure 1 cup milk into microwave measuring cup and place in microwave . . . I heat mine up for 2.5 minutes.

Pour brewed coffee into favorite mug, top with milk and add flavor, sugar, whatever sweetener you need.

Trust me - it's not the Starbucks drivethrough but it tastes just as good . . . : )

Much love - Jan and the ladies from The Upper Room (www.jansstudyblogspot.com)

My husband went hunting this morning, "opening day" and I wake up early to my cell ringing in my purse, I wake up try to get the dang thing out quickly, which never works and miss his call. Then the landline starts ringing, so I jump out of bed, that usually never happens and try to run to the office to grab the phone. My shih-tzu Wrigley jumps off the bed and walks right in front of me slowly. I finally got to the phone and found out it was my man and he just got a 10 pt buck! That put a huge smile on my face knowing that he was having a good day.
So thanks for ending my day with a smile too!
God bless!

I'm mildly stunned. At a time when so many people are struggling to find jobs and keep their homes, a Williams Sonoma quality coffee maker doesn't even make the wish list. You are blessed to be able to afford such things. Your love of God comes through in your work and worship, but please remember that some of us are happy to still have grocery money. A coffee-maker that works, whatever the name, is sufficient.

I love this post. It was written for me. I have to say, if you have time - go to a store such as Cost Plus World Market and buy a little stove-top Bialletta espresso maker. They sometimes are called Mokka's.

It's how I make our coffee here in Europe - actually I should say espresso. It's very easy, doesn't take too long - and tastes great. Just add boiling water to taste, to make it an Americano.

Even in pricey Zurich, where I live for now, these are not too expensive. It might make life a bit easier between now and when your best friend returns. God bless!

I have been known to take my own coffee pot, coffee etc, when we were guests overnight.
I can so relate to driving to the nearest Walgreens to get a coffee pot! On a serious note, so much of what you share, your Bible studies, your events have so encouraged my own spiritual growth.
Thank you! Also thank for being real and sharing who you are with so many of us who relate.

Well, I am just so glad that you mentioned the Keith being gone and not divorcing him by the end of the season. My man has been on a hunting trip to Kansas once to get some stuff ready, (WE LIVE IN AL), another time for early muzzle loader season (I have no idea what that means), bow season, and He has been gone for 2 stinking weeks to Kansas along with his regular hunting club trips toward Mississippi on the weekends. I literally told him I wanted a divorce via text message I have been so irritated (I didn't want a divorce I just want to get a text or an I love you every now and then...but in the moment I was officially over him). Then, I got all self-righteous because after 2 weeks (and like 3 weeks of prep. for the trip...deer shows non-stop...I can't handle all the whispering) he STILL did NOT kill A deer. I want something to show for all of that. I called yesterday and said, "dude it is not like you are off to war...you can give me a call anytime."
ok sorry for the rant. Ever since he bought be back scratchers for prizes I decided it was going to have to step it up, give me some cash, and let me go shopping while he is gone. OK I am done!! And sorry about the coffee maker!

OK ... so I could not resist sitting down and writing a poem in honor of the deceased. :) Hope it makes you giggle ...

An Ode to Jura

I woke up this morning
and jumped out of bed
visions of fresh ground coffee
consumed my sweet head

I raced down the stairs
with not a minute to spare
when something quite tragic
filled my heart with despair.

I felt so unsettled
as I pushed the small button
praying for coffee
I got nothin'

She just sat there so still
no a spurt, not a jitter
I waited for steam
She had ner' been a quitter

For seven long years
we had shared such moments
sunrises, devotionals,
laughter, and donuts

She’d been my best friend
Blessed me daily with joe
I cried towards the heavens,
“Sweet Jura don’t go!’

In rushed my man
He knew what to do
He rushed me to Starbucks
Bought me a Vente brew

I drank it with sadness
It just wasn’t the same
Life without Jura
An unthinkable shame

When through the haze
A sweet solution was offered
We’d have her fixed
My prayers were answered

Carefully I packed her
In bubble wrap galore
Handed her over to UPS
Waved bye as I stood at the door

In her place is a stranger
Just waiting to please
Will it be love at first cup…
We’ll have to see

Tomorrow morning
The atmosphere tender
I will drink to Jura
And pray they can mend her.

May she come home soon ... as feisty as ever. :)

P.S. Looking forward to the conference in January.

You and my husband have got to be somehow distantly related. We have had numerous morning starbucks runs to fill the coffee void. Unfortunately for him, your kitchen gourmet looks pretty good compared to the weird off brand we were able to find in Beirut. But at least we can get Starbucks coffee to put in the weird coffee maker...

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I feel your pain; several months ago we too said goodbye to our coffee maker; not as extravagant as yours; but it too made a good cup. I resorted to instant coffee, since I have not had the means to replace it. Maybe my hubby will get me one for Christmas! In the meantime Beth, remain hopefull that you'll soon get your "ol friend" back.

I must say, you must be a much stronger woman than I had even originally thought. We don't have a fancy coffee maker by any means and one that brews 1 cup at a time, well, let's just say that wouldn't work in our home. Blood would likely be shed while someone was waiting for another someone to get their coffee. And heaven knows there would be a fight brewing over who was going to go first. Plus drinking 2 pots a day, myself, I'd get nothing done cuz I'd just be standing in the kitchen all day long hitting grind and brew. (I switched to half-caf years ago which in many ways is wrong in the scheme of things but when you drink as much coffee as I do, some sacrifices must be made.....especially when you consider the pain that much caffeine can have on a person of my "lumpy" design.) And in my own defense, I have a 4 year old and 6 year old.

I'll pray you get your machine back quickly and that you survive having coffee brewed all at once. At least now, if you should so desire, you can drink a 16 ounce mug like me. (and no, it doesn't really have time to get cold)

Traci said...

I too thought maybe it was coffee you had given up. I didn't ask though; figured it was none of my business :)

Enjoy your coffee this morning. At least you don't have to get out in your jammies to get it!

Is it okay that I laughed my head off as I shared your sorrow? I feel your pain, Siesta Momma. I was particularly moved by the fact that the temporary "coffee maker" (let's not give it props by taking away the quotes) dares to be marked with the word "gourmet." Is there no end to the misuse and vain repetition of such words? How dare they?

As I enjoy my Gevalia this morning, I'll think of you.

jenn said...

And this now is the prime example of why I drink as much coffee as I do. It is now 5:50 a.m. EST and my 6 year old just woke up for good 10 minutes ago. He first woke me up when he came in to bed wanting to sleep next to his daddy at about 4:30 a.m. Is it any wonder I am ready for cup #3?

Thank you again for being the person you are that gives me hope for myself with all my own idosyncrecies.

Thank you for being transparent as you speak protecting yourself and your family appropriately as God directs you. This teaches me better how to express what The Great Creator has allowed in my life to grow me and benefit others.

This totally cracks me up, because I can completely relate. It is a travesty when anything goes wrong with my coffee in the mornings. Coffee is deeply rooted in my morning prayer and study time with God. I love our morning coffee dates. I stopped allowing my husband to buy coffee for us, because he would come home with whatever is on sale and it would invariably taste like dirty water. A good cup of coffee, my Bible and God is the perfect formula for starting the day. I am so sorry about your loss, sweet Beth.

You'll die when I say I don't like coffee. However, I am sitting here this morning without a single Diet Dr. Pepper and am about to freak completely out. Just discovered I'm out of tea bags too.

And here is where I am about to test my husband's love for me. Will he go to the store and cold 20 oz. bottle as a repayment for all the Sundays I've completely let him off the hook helping get the kids ready for church? (He's a preacher so there's always some "reason" he needs to be at church earlier than 10:05)

This could either be a bonding moment or a really bad day. Will keep you posted. Because I know you girls are on the edge of your seat.

I understand exactly how you feel. Well, maybe not exactly - I don't drink coffee. :) In fact people don't drink the coffee I make because somehow the coffeemaker knows that a non-coffee drinker has made it. And people always take that first sip and say...no, not ahhhhhhh...but, "You don't drink coffee do you?"
But I do drink Chai, and this morning there is none, because I too forgot to get some yesterday while I was out (getting me a grande no water, no foam, extra pump - because I didn't have any at the house yesterday either!)

Prophecy? Last night I had a dream that you stayed at my house because I had a coffee maker. So you and I are standing in the kitchen (you had on a really cute pair of glasses, but your hair was messed up..I think that was to indicate that you had just got up???) I said Beth there is somthing I'd like to suggest to you (exploiting our friendship)for the next blog post it would be really nice if you would have the Siestas say Who they are in Christ, you know from the 5 statements of faith "I am who God says I am" Who does God say I am?
That's my question.
Anyhow...that's my dream and my Bible passages for this morning were about Joseph interpreting the dreams of the servants in prison, and Pharoah..weird huh?

Worth every penny -- even if it is a lot of pennies. You know it's a good machine because they've never even heard of it at Walgreens. Go forth and get one!

True coffee lovers know that you are not exaggerating one bit...

Only a true coffee drinker understands these things. I have to admit when you said you had given up something, I too thought it might be coffee and I couldn't understnad why you were so calm about it.....even said that after a month you culd take it or leave it (something like that). I just couldn't understand, but I am relieved to know it wasn't that. I truly think God gave us "good" coffee as a reward of sorts....maybe for having to wake up so stinking early. I heard a well known Bible teacher say once that he didn't think it was possible to walk in the spirit before having coffee. I'm still looking for that one in Scripture but I know it must be there.....

On a side note, I've had heart and breathing issues over the years. I asked my cardiologist at the Mayo clinic in MN (with much trepidation, I might add) if I needed to give up coffee. He looked over his half-glasses and said, "ma'am, you are Norwegian; for you, giving up coffee would be like giving up air. Just keep it to less than an entire pot per day." I was so relieved . . . Beth, thank you for that hilarious post. I totally sympathize with you Siesta Mama. I love my morning coffee too—so much so when I’m at a doctor appt. and he says tells me he wants to do check my blood, I do my very best to maintain a calm composure as I look at him with terror-filled eyes and ask, “is it fasting?” because if so I know that means I can’t have my morning coffee and I start to get a little shaky!!!! To tell you the truth, I really don’t care to know my cholesterol level that bad!! (but I am thankful my dr. does) LOL
One other story I have to tell you about coffee—I haven’t done your Daniel study but I was talking with a lady a while back and she told me she enjoyed it but you had to give up something. I filed that away in the back of my mind, but it happened to come up just this past week. As I was enjoying a cup of coffee and I had a fleeting thought, “if I ever get a chance to do the Daniel study I wonder if I should give up coffee?” I’m telling you my flesh woman rose up so hard and fast it startled me—like I was having a conversation with myself—and she said, “are you crazy, why would you want to give up coffee??” Hmmm, so if I ever have the opportunity to study Daniel I guess I know the first thing that will come to mind. Love you too, Siesta Mama, and thanks for your latest post as well -- wonderful thoughts on your memory verse, Proverbs 8:34.

I knew there was a reason to NOT take up drinking the stuff. However, I feel your pain. Until July 2009 I was a complete Dr. Pepper addict. (I mean there MAY need to be an investigation to see, if like the cigarette companies, there is something in the stuff! Just saying.) I could not start my day without one. I gave them up COLD TURKEY. (And sitting here talking about them is making me long for one....ugh.) There were mornings I would have to load up the kids and drive into town to Sonic for the joy for it's fizzy goodness!! The trouble is, now I love sweet tea. I'm I really that much better off? The Southern Belle that is me cries, YES. But the calorie counter sighes, no. I have even (now, don't freak out on me here) learned to enjoy the occasional instant coffee with some yummy flavored creamer. So whereas I don't share your beverage of choice--I can sympathize. Hang in there. And congrats on those jumbo toothpicks and hats off to those "Handyman" hubbies! OnYa!

Oh my ... the same thing happened to me recently. While we were in Memphis at LPL, I got a text from my husband. Our 21 year old coffee maker (bought with wedding gift money, no less!) just up and died!! One day it worked. The next day, it was dead. I had to have a moment. We have a new coffee maker now, and I think I'm over it.

I just want to say that I don't have extra money to buy a mean machine like Beth's either. Wouldn't want it even if I did. I don't like coffee. But I do love Beth! And I praise God that He has blessed her with the machine. She has allowed God to use her to bless and encourage me for the past few years. I thank God for her and I say "bless her even more." You go girl! Enjoy the blessings God has poured out on you. Even that ole mean machine. I love you and pray for you as you continue to allow God to use you to enrich my life.

Blessings

I can't imagine not having my cup of hot tea in the mornings, and after sixteen years of marriage I know full well to refrain from conversation until AFTER my husband is more than halfway thru his first cup of coffee! I wonder if you'll make it to a William Sonoma this week???

On a funny note...your comment about about saying, "Thank you God" for your coffee reminded me of a dinner time conversation with my four year old this week. At dinner my husband and I announced to Sam that we were giving having his birthday party at Pump it Up in a few weeks. He was so excited that he jumped up from the table and yelled, "Thank you God!" and then just as quickly said (in a very deep voice), "You're welcome Sam". My husband and I were speechless! It still makes me smile because I KNOW what my four year old has been talking to God about!

We have a Tassimo, it makes tea, coffee, lattes and cappuccinos and hot chocolate.

$129.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond, 20% off and I think I saw they have a $30 rebate as well. It is a great machine!!

I can't wait to show my husband your blog post about the coffee machine. And yes, you have an awesome husband, just like me!!

God bless,

Oh boy! I can relate. I had to replace my machine just a few weeks ago. My husband did what he could to keep my machine going. Cleaning it, running vinegar through it, even beating on the side of it (much to my horror). But what a blessing it is to have such wonderful husbands who care enough to ensure we have our coffee!

Oh Beth, you are so funny, BUT I really understand. Can you imagine to my horror one recent MONDAY morning that we were OUT OF COFFEE?!! Zip, zilch, nada, nothing in the house! It was awful. And I homeschool, I had to have energy and a clear mind to do this. I resorted to drinking a Diet Coke instead, yuk! I don't normally mind this product but not first thing in the morning, gross. I missed my steaming hot hand-made pottery mug. I often lift it high and say "thanks God" also. I understand. I'm so glad you have a temporary solution.

SERIOUSLY, MY FRIEND WHO HAS ONE OF THESE FROM WILLIAMS-SONOMA SAID YOU JUST GO IN WITH YOUR "DEAD" ONE AND THEY GIVE YOU A NEW ONE ON THE SPOT...IF THEY DO NOT HAVE YOUR MODEL, THEY GIVE YOU THE $ WORTH AND YOU PICK ANOTHER. SHE SAID SHE WILL NEVER not BUY A FOOD ELECTRONIC THINGY FROM THERE...B/C THEY ARE WONDERFUL WITH WARRANTIES!!!

OH! I would have felt the same way! We do get spoiled.

I love the toothpick. Love. It. Isn't it good to know you have a man who'd fix anything for you? So sweet.

Glad you have it working, at least for now! :)

Beth,I can just see you and Keith driving that morning to get coffee ... in your jammies no less. Your post made me smile. I'm also touched at how so many times our husbands will just do anything to make our lives happy. God bless them for they do try so hard. My husband is the same way about fresh ground beans for his coffee each morning, and although I've tried to like coffee, I just can't. I gave up Diet Coke to now being addicted to iced unsweet tea. It has the caffeine needed for the morning. Thanks for sharing your household story. You are so real Beth and such an encouragement even in the day to day things. Love to you and your family! Can't wait to share scriptures in Houston ... my old hometown of our early married years.

I just read through the comments which I don't normally do...I guess after 10 years of doing your studies, going to so man LPL events, bible study tapings I totally get your sense of humor and some people just don't. I know good and well you'd be thankful with the "it" machine and that you don't have an addiction to coffee that you need to do breaking free over. I just wish others didn't take themselves so seriously. PRAISE GOD that you have that machine and I know from all the other bible studies that there was a time where you guys wouldn't have been able to afford that machine. Some of the comments that are rude are from some that need to get a grip. OKAY...SORRY...If you weren't like my mom in the faith I wouldn't bow up.

I am so happy for you!! Yay, Keith!! My husband got me a perfect little espresso maker last Christmas so I could kick the $3.50 a day habit (now just an occassional treat:) and make my own at home. It's so tiny, so chrome, so Italian. I love it. I had tears in my eyes when it arrived in the mail. I felt for you deeply - empathy, not just sympathy. So glad for the happy report!

Beth, I am "old" and have never learned to drink coffee. I'm married to a man who roasts his own beans, and easily 30 percent of our kitchen is taken up with coffee stuff. He recommends Cafiza to fix your problem. http://www.cw-usa.com/supplies-cleaning-cleaners-powdered-cafiza-canister.html

Oh, Beth! Don't you love having your very own "McGyver"!! You wouldn't believe some of the 'creations' my man has come up with--he continually amazes me. Keith's patch work sounds very familiar!

Have a great week!

Beth,
I really enjoyed the two posts about the coffee. I can relate to this and I see some of myself in it and I needed to know, today, that there were others "like me." I look at the sheer number of comments on these post and wonder if its possible that you read all of the comments. I can't imagine fielding all of the comments. I have had to work at home for about 4 hours on a Sunday because of so much stress in my work life and I have been bitter about it all day. I wanted to play in the floor with my kids and shoot hoops with them for a while and maybe bake a little. But, I've had to work. I came over to your blog tonight, just as I finished one project and am about to start another at 10:30, and I hoped for something to lift my spirits and inspire me to keep going. Just reading your essays and relating to that kind of disappointment helped me tonight. I wanted to say that the light-hearted, yet serious, post was used of God to give me a boost tonight. And, I am so glad that coffee isn't the "thing" you gave up. I hoped that you were the kind of coffee drinker that would'nt do such a thing. :)
Best regards and thank you,
Tiffany

Mama Siesta, this is why we love you! I have faith in you, you can make it! Although I will pray for Keith. I know if my husband, the coffee drinker in our family, when he is out of his beans for just one day...it isn't pretty!

My mother would fall apart without her coffee maker too.

Somehow I escaped the horror of this addiction, even though my daddy brought both myself and my mom a perfect, hot cup of coffee, IN BED, every morning, of every day that I can recall. God saved me from it is all I can think.

Oh Beth, you sweet thing, please know that we all still love and respect you. Even though we know your weakness. Or perhaps partly because we know you have weaknesses...just like us.

Okay, I've been holding back, but can't anymore :). Hoping and praying you are drinking organic decaf coffee. Must take care of the temple of the Holy Spirit. Too much caffeine can really mess with one's body in many negative ways. God bless you for all you do in God's name for a world in need!

I knew you hadn't given up coffee. :)

SOOO glad you got it fixed. I'm a firm believer that God cares and perfects things that concern us. (Psalm 138:8) I'm pretty sure I learned that from you.

Yay for Keith for fixing it. What a very fine man you have.

Love ya & can't wait to see you at Deeper Still in OKC next month and then in Jan.!!!

Love,
Valerie

The toothpick says it all. All that sucker needs is a little duct tape and you are back in "bidness" as my grandfather would say.

I'm so with you sister. The other night one of my last thoughts before drifting off to sleep was, "Mmmm...can't wait for that first cup of coffee." Pathetic. Glad your "McGiver" husband came to the rescue!!! :

LOVE the post!!! So thankful Keith was there to walk you through a solution:) Thank you for making us smile! You are such a blessing in so many ways... The post asking if that was a plastic spoon inside the new pot was TOOOO FUNNY!!! Wish we could all just hang out together at the local Starbucks...

LOVE this. As I sit here with my first cup of coffee for the day - but I must admit my coffee pot looks more like the temporary replacement than the "best friend". Now you've given me something to aspire to. =0)

Have a blessed day. You've started mine with a smile.

I had to get my man to read this post with pic's from you! We laughed our heads off...my man would have done just like Keith and figured out some way to keep that mean machine working! Oh the infamy of having to go to a "no name" brand that does nothing but drip!

I wanted to share a secret with all our Siestas out there who love "Spiced Pumpkin Lattes" from Starbucks. Try this:Coffee-mate has just come out with "Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer"... I promise it is a wonderful substitute and ends up costing pennies on the dollar. God gave me this solution after I "fasted" the Starbucks! Yeh LORD! Praise Him!
Hugs,

I'm am so impressed with Keith's innovative fix-it idea. And duct tape would only complete the repair. I mean, what's a temporary fix without duct tape? We love these kind of fixes around here. You should see the burners my husband made, yes made, himself for our grill when ours suddenly burned themselves up.

LOL! I understand... I have a great cafe espressor maker. We use the coffee maker most of the time. I grind my own beans (love Trader Joe's fair trade organic blends) and it makes a great cup of coffee everytime. My man loves it when I make him coffee on Saturday morning before I leave for bible study. It's my way of saying I'm sorry when I get out of bed at 6:30 on a Saturday morning.

It was my 20th service anniversary gift from 3M.

Blessings,
Mary Ann

P.S. I just bought Trader Joe's special wintry blend. I can't wait for the other beans to be gone. Patience, patience!
