Info About the Siesta SMT Celebration

Hi Siestas! This post is going to have information for you about a block of hotel rooms at a special group rate, hotel room scholarships that we are giving out, and a few other tidbits. We will also use the comments in this post to allow you to connect with each other regarding the event, especially those of you who are traveling solo.

Special Hotel Rate

We were able to confirm a block of rooms at an Omni Hotel for our Siestas so that you will have the option of staying together. The Lord came through for us in a big way because initially they were not able to accommodate us. Praise Him! This is a nice, newly renovated hotel just 2 miles from the church and they have given us a reasonable rate. Here's the information you need if you'd like to reserve a room there.

Omni Houston Hotel
Four Riverway
Houston, Texas 77056
Phone: (713) 871-8181
1-800-THE-OMNI
Tell them you want to book a room with the Siesta SMT Celebration for the night of Friday, January 22, 2010.
The room rate is $80.

*This is NOT the Omni Westside. That would put you much farther from the church and you wouldn't get our special rate.

Hotel Scholarships

By God's grace, LPM is able to scholarship 100 Siestas in 50 double rooms at The Omni for our Scripture Memory Celebration. We are thrilled to be able to do this!

-We will cover your stay for Friday night, January 22.
-You will share a room with another siesta in which there will be two double beds.
-If this will allow you to attend the conference, please email jhamm@lproof.org. She is going to give scholarships to the first 100 women who email her.

Jenn and I are both part-time LPM employees with small children, so it may take us a couple of days to answer all the emails. Thanks for your patience!

Things to Do

If you're staying the whole weekend and will have time to play, here's a great web site to help you plan. You can even request a visitors guide.

www.visithoustontexas.com

What About our Husbands?

We have been asked if men can attend the Siesta SMT Celebration. This is going to be a very intimate group and we want our ladies to feel the freedom to worship and study with just the girls. We love our Miestas, but we would like to keep this event for women only. Thank you so much for understanding.

Connecting with Others

We know many of you are traveling solo and are hoping to connect with a travel buddy or even someone to split rental car and hotel costs. We want to open up comments in this post to allow you to do that. Just make sure you provide a way for others to contact you.

We hope this information will be helpful as you plan for our big weekend. We can't wait, Siestas!

I'm registered to go :) I can be reached through my blog (clicking on my name) and I'm from central Illinois. I'd like to fly in Thursday so Friday isn't too rushed. If there's anyone else wanting to do something similar it would be great to hang out! Just drop me a comment--I'll check other comments on this blog, too! So excited!

I JUST REGISTERED!!

I've hoped for this all year, but last night my husband officially said we could make it happen. This morning he even arranged for my mother-in-law to come watch the kids.

Can't believe it. I'm so grateful and excited, I'm bawling like a baby. WHAT a year this has been, huh? And what a great time we'll have.

See you soon!!

Thanks for the timely 'info' post! This is a great deal for the Omni and I was able to get a reservation. I'm so glad to hear that LPM is able to give away so many scholarships--God is obviously working with this Ministry!

Praying for those that are still working on getting to Houston that God will provide a way, both financially and in making family arrangements!

Thank you so much for this helpful info. I had planned from the beginning to come but have now had to replace my old car so not sure if I can make it. I'm not giving up yet!! Aeroplan miles might get me to Houston and if I can share a hotel that would be very helpful as well.

Hello, Siestas! I live in Montgomery, TX, which is Lake Conroe. My husband and I are a one car family these days (budget cuts!), and he has to work on Saturday of our SMT celebration and needs the wheels. I am trying to find a buddy to ride with to the SMT. Please contact me at lmsnyder@suddenlinkmail.com or 936.443.1907 if you can help! I only have email at work, where I am part time, so it may take me a few days to get back with you.

Thanks!

Okay, I just hung up the phone with Diane who is with The Hilton Garden Inn (713)212-1503. I had made a reservation with her on Monday but called to cancel when I saw the blog about the block of rooms. She said that they want to offer a great rate/block of rooms and will offer breakfast, etc. to guests for the Siesta SMT Celebration too. She wanted someone from LPM to contact her to discuss. This was the wildest conversation....I was going on and on about what I've experienced through Beth Moore Bible Studies, this blog, etc. when all I was actually calling for was to cancel my reservation.

I was also able to share about the scriptures I've learned all year and how they've helped me. I guess you could say, it was like witnessing to her (which doesn't come easy to me) just by sharing what God has done for me!

How great is our God!

I've only made a hotel reservation but hope to work it out to be there.

Excited from South Carolina!

Hi Amanda,
Thanks for the hotel special, that's a big help. To clarify which Omni, the address is Omni Houston Hotel Four Riverway Houston 77056. I had a little difficulty explaining to the hotel person using the Woodway location, therefore, this may assist another Siesta avoid the same problem.
Also, my sweet Miesta Bob is coming with me, it's my BD present. The special room rate is also available for Sat and Sun night. If the weather is cooperative, he would like to play golf Saturday AM. Are any other golfer Miesta's coming? Does anyone have a nearby golf course suggestion or even not close by?
Thanks again for this challenge and celebration!
Blessings,

Oh the time has finally come to register, make plans, and anticipate this great event! I was completely prepared to go alone but, just in the last 3 days, God provided 2 traveling buddies for me...women who attended the last simulcast with me in August. Thank you, God!

We're from Oregon and if there's anyone who needs a group to join, you are more than welcome to join us. We're 3 moms, all in our 40's, and I promise...our abnormalities won't seem so bad once you get used to us. We love the Lord and we like to pray a lot.

Also, we would like to split the cost of a car rental. If anyone is interested in doing that or you're just wanting to join up with a small group, please contact me at the following email address:

novembertopaz@yahoo.com

Love in Christ,
Soorin

P.S. Beth, we just finished your portion of "Transformed" from Deeper Still. We watched both DVD's today. Then we had such a time of prayer...such a time of release from pain and bondage for some of the women. I am feeling so close to Jesus right now my eyes well up just thinking about Him. Thank you for your ministry. You are so honored, treasured, and beloved.

I am hoping to travel with my hubby. He would love to do some fishing, deep sea or otherwise. Is January a good time to do that in TX?

Just talked to the hotel, Omni 1-800# regarding the special rate ...if that includes parking fee. It doesn't. Parking for those driving and/or renting a car will be an extra $24 Valet and/or $15 for self parking.(with in/out privilges) At least that is what the man on the 1-800 told me...is that correct?

one note! when i called the Omni right after the post was put up, the reservation desk said they booked the last room just before they hit enter on my reservation! i was very disappointed! but i saw on the blog this evening that other women were getting reservations and they posted much later than when i had tried, so i tried again and GOT A ROOM! Praise God! so i say that to say this, if you tried earlier and couldn't get a room, TRY AGAIN!

Yea! I'm coming from Arkansas and am grateful for a room at the Omni. It looks like I'll be coming from Little Rock on Friday and probably will have to leave on the last flight out Saturday. (My birthday is the day before the event so my husband is reluctant to have me gone longer than that!)

Anyone coming into Houston Hobby noon-ish on Friday, let me know and maybe we can share a ride.

Can't wait to see everyone!

I had to jump back on and send a note to Deidre. I'm so sorry for your loss. NOONE can replace your friend, but we can sure love you during this time. After being in San Antonio with so many Siestas, I know these women are HUGGERS and that's one thing you can count on! My prayers are with you that you'll be able to come to Houston if circumstances are right.

God will provide if you feel you can come. Keep us posted.

I am coming from St. Louis, arriving around 11:30 on Friday. I would love to share a cab or rental car to the Omni. I am SO excited! I didn't think I would be able to come but my husband had frequent flyer miles that he insisted I use. I won't know a single siesta until I get there, but can't wait!! Just got registered and got my room - just gotta get the plane ticket! I can hardly wait! I've never been to Texas - I'm a coastal Virginia girl so I'm really excited to "go West"! And the thought of meeting some other siestas is almost more than I can take! I've already found another Virginia girl to travel with. We've never met but we're siestas anyway. God is so good. I really didn't want to travel alone and now, thanks to the blog, I've got a traveling companion and roommate!

To Kathy from OK!
OH, Sweet One, I am praying that the Son of Righteousness will rise with healing in His wings for you and you will go out like a calf released from the stall and head on to Houston in Jan. so I can hug your sweet little neck. I am living proof that there is life after breast cancer, as I'm sure there are many other Siestas out there that are, too. Been cancer free since my surgery in 1987! Praise to my God! Finding it was definitely a "God thing". I could go on, but I won't.
Praise Him in this, as you do in all things, and I'm sure it will be used for His glory - b/c He has promised!

Deidra, I pray for you in your loss of a dear friend. God will fill that void in your heart with Himself. Want to hug your sweet neck, too.

Can't wait! This year and God's word have been such delight!

Kathy, I want to know how you are. I think you can click on my name and email me if you want.

I am so excited. Traveling alone doesn't bother me, as I have been single all my life. However, I don't usually go to conferences like this by myself. But, this is not a conference where I will be by myself. I am flying from KC, MO Thursday night to Dallas. I will be driving with my mom and sis to Houston so we can visit. They are not attending though, as I am the black sheep of the family. I fear that they may cancel out on me so I maybe back on here in January asking if anyone has a spare bed, because one way or another, I'm in Houston January 22 and 23. ( I told my school principal that I felt a sickness coming on already. I will be sicker than a dog if I don't make it!!). Can't wait to meet every one. I have followed the blog for almost a year and feel I know you all. It is all I can think about right now.
See you in a couple of months.

I am so excited and am praying, praying, praying for God to make a way for me to come! He is faithful and things seem to be falling into place, but not quite got the 100% go ahead yet. This scripture memory team is exactly what I needed this year. My verses have come back to my mind so many different times when I really needed to hear from God. Thank you Siesta Mama for bringing this to us.

I'm tentatively staying w/a friend at the Omni...anyone know if they have a shuttle or is it too far from the airport?
If I make it, I'm coming in from Bay Area in CA, Oakland airport. Maybe my friend and I will be on the same flight as you all who are coming from that area of CA.
Can't wait to meet all of you and spend time w/Mama Beth, all you Siestas and of course, most important of all, Abba!
And to Diedra...I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of your best friend. I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling and I am so sorry. If God provides a way for you to come, I pray you will bc you will have a whole boatload of siestas waiting to wrap our arms around you and be His shoulders, His hands, His feet, His ears and His love for you. Let Him just wrap you up and tuck you in, sister. Praying for you.

Ms. Beth,

I can't begin to tell you what this scripture challenge has meant to me, how it has strengthened me through God's word to deal with difficult situations. At this time is doesn't look like I'll be able to join you and the other siesta's in this special celebration, but I am leaving all in God's capable hands. I just wanted you to know how much your teaching and love for God has touched my life.

Diedre: I am so sorry for your loss. On Friday we said good bye to a much loved member of our family, and as her pastor said: she's not 'lost' as we know exactly where she is, she's just left us for a little while. That thought and the scriptures I've been memorizing got me through her service. My arms are wrapped around you also.

Have a great time everyone. Wish there was some way I could beam in via computer and be with you all.

Dear ones,
God is so good - I'm so excited! I'd written earlier to ask for prayer for some of us who wanted to go but didn't yet sense God's leading. I decided to go ahead by faith and started researching plane fares. Found one option that was pretty reasonable but I couldn't buy the ticket right away. By the time I was able to get online - the price had gone up $40 or so. I was pretty bummed but reminded myself God was sovereign and had a reason in allowing that to happen. That afternoon I shared about it with my friend while we were exercising. She has a daughter in Houston and when I told her she got a funny look on her face and said "If you could stay longer and had a free place to stay could you go then?" Bingo! We're flying down together and her daughter and husband are letting me stay with them. A double blessing - a kind invitation from a friend and a chance to come to the celebration. God is good - and creative with His children!
Now a question - is anyone out there driving to First Baptist from the Kingwood area? I'll have a rented car but am somewhat directionally challenged so would love to hook up with someone!
Blessings,
Becky B.

I have read through all of these comments and not one Canadian siesta??? Any siestas coming from Canada for this???

For those who haven't yet booked, I found a super deal on priceline.com. You choose your hotel rating (I chose 4 stars) and enter the amount you're willing to pay (I chose $60 USD) and click "buy." My hubby and I will be staying at the Hilton Houston Post Oak (where rooms typically go for $130) for a mere $60 per night! The only catch is that you don't get to choose your hotel - you select the area of the city and whichever hotel accepts your price is where you stay. Now, if only I could find flights this way...

Can't wait to meet you all, celebrate with you, and worship our Mighty Saviour together! Thank-you, Beth, for hosting this get-together and for spurring us on to bury the Word in our hearts. *hugs*

I'm coming from the DFW area & looking forward to it.
I even ordered the t-shirt & I NEVER wear anything black (except shoes) - but such an exclusive garment could not be passed by.

Dear LPM Ladies,
The Omni is totally booked. Can you please steer me to another hotel close to the church?

Any siestas have a room & need to cancel? I'd be glad to take yours.
Thanks.

I will be arriving at Houston Hobby Airport at 11:40am on Friday and will need to be back at Houston Hobby around 2:30pm on Saturday. I have rented a car and would be more than happy to give someone a ride. No need to share the cost...I would be grateful for a passenger to read the MapQuest. Seems a lot safer since I'm from Illinois! I'm also up for a late lunch or early dinner on Friday at Pappasitos (Mexican restaurant recommended by the LPM staff).

My email is whtduck64@aol.com, if I can help.

I just want to pop in and ask for prayers to make it in a timely fashion. I will flying stand-by and often that means getting "bumped" off the flight. I have the room and car reserved, I just need a seat on the plane! I don't mind sharing a ride, but I'm hesitant to ask or offer since I am unsure of my arrival status! I've been working and I am (mostly) ready.........so, please if you have a second, pray the Lord's will be done in this. And not so secretly I'm hoping that means that I'll make it safely! Hugs to all my siestas. OnYa, Tonya

My daughter and I are arriving on Thursday at IAH and would love to meet for dinner that night so please count us in. Is there anyone leaving Saturday to the airport right after the conference and share the cost to the airport?
Not sure what the best way to do this; renting the expense of a car or take a shuttle to the hotel and a cab to and from the church and then to the airport after the conference? Is that even possible with so many siesta's?
Can you tell, I have not done this before??? :~)
Any suggestions?

For any interested this is probably what I'm doing to get to and from the airport..
www.supershuttle.com
It's about $25 (one way) from airport to hotel. I despise driving on busy roads, let alone unfamiliar ones. Renting a car is not an option for me!
Since I won't have a car, my biggest concern is getting to and from the church from the Omni. I guess I could take a cab but would be more fun to hook up with a siesta to ride with. I'll pitch in for gas!
You can find me through my blog...just leave a comment.
So excited!

"Joy in the journey"

...please contact me to see if we can share a ride from the airport to the hotel. I am flying from Fargo to Minn. then to Houston but haven't actually booked my flight yet so thought I would see what flight you are on. Contact: moslander@nvc.net.

Also, the Hilton Garden Inn still has several rooms available for the SMT group. The group rate is $79.00/ four breakfast passes per room/ no parking fee. Since the Omni is full, I opted for this. Many others are there also. There number is 713-212-1503. Any other siestas staying at the Hilton...would you be intereseted in sharing taxi cost to and from event?? Should we try and organize a meal before the Friday night event?? My contact is above.

Howdy! I registered a while back but just lately learned the family I'm staying with (Kingwood area) recommends staying closer to FBC Friday night because of the traffic.
I have a reservation at Drury Inn - Galleria location but not sure about getting back and forth to the church. Anyone else at that location who'd like to share a cab?
Or.. Anyone at the Omni who still needs someone to share a room?
My e-mail is daveandbeckybell @hotmail.com

Dear Lord, please be in these last minute details for all of us.

See you all soon!

Just to let everyone know there is a shuttle from the George Bush Airport to OMNI and back. If all else fails I will be utilizing this. Then catching a ride or a cab or whatever God provides to and from SSMTC. I and my loved ones take comfort and rejoice that God has provided this basic form of transportation. If He provides further more greatly praises to Him, but if not praises to Him nonetheless, and God forbid if these plans don't pan out then praises to Him still. All glory to Him Who holds me...us all...in His hands.

What do you guys think?
I'm really cutting it close to get there Friday night. My flight gets in at 4:30 and am taking a shuttle from the airport. It will be rush hour and not sure if I'll have time to make it to the Omni and then the church. Plus I'd need a ride to the church and everybody might already be gone to get a good seat! Would it be better to take the shuttle straight to the church? (I checked and they will do that!) If anyone else is flying in around 4:30 we can book our shuttle reservation together and save some $$. Let me know! What a whirlwind trip but what a thrill!!

Sorry I was under the impression that the shuttle was free.

SuperShuttle (they have a web site) is the name of the George Bush (IAH) shuttle. From what I've gathered, from this airport to the OMNI (not west side) Hotel is $24.00/person and to the church is $29.00 for the first person and $7 for every additional person. I just got off the phone with them. It's best to call at least 24 hrs in advanced of needing the service but at the very least 5 hrs or you run the risk of not getting service. Ok I just recalled them to ask about the "exclusive" sevice this is more economical @ $75.00/ride from IAH to church and back to IAH for 1 to 10 people. I wonder if LP could get like a group rate type thing going for them running back and forth all day or all weekend?

Again sorry about the miss information before.

Oh and OMNI does not have a shuttle service; I called them the other day.

ET - I am coming from Canada (Toronto) and I know of one other woman coming from Edmonton.
Hope we can connect at the event!!

Note to LPM staff: the email about the shirts went into my bulk folder so i'm wondering if there were any others that went in there as well which I didn't catch. I did get an email way back from Jenn saying I would get a scholarship room, but haven't heard anything else.......have I missed something?

Audrey Howie's gals are wearing pink to the airports and such to meet with each other... it will be so awesome once at the event to see how big a sea of pink we can engulf Houston with. So very excited!

God, thank You for these ladies, who are willing to not only follow You but who are also willing to literally and figuratively go the extra mile to come along side and be longsuffurers as well toward Your Beloveds. Gives us all Your peace in knowing that You have every detail down to the minute in order before us. Give us strength to endure, boldness to stand, and Your hand of protection to guide so that You alone are honoured, magnified, and glorified through this entire event. In Your precious Son's name I pray amen.

After all the planning and work to get to Houston, it is all going to boil down to the weather. Please pray as I have to drive 2 1/2 to Fargo, ND to catch my plane and we are in the middle of a freezing rain and snow storm drama. National weather service in Aberdeen said the highways to Fargo are slippery and foggy and will remain that way for 24 hours. Pray siestas!
