Him: “You wanna hear something awful?”
Me, bracing myself because I really didn’t want to hear something awful but my man was clearly disturbed: “What is it, Baby? What happened?”
Him: “You can’t even get a Moon Pie at Kroger anymore. You can’t get the danged thing at Randall’s. You can’t even get one at Amanda’s fancy HEB. Not a Moon Pie on a single shelf. Good grief.”
Me: Silent. Staring. Baffled.
Him: “Do you know the only place in this town you can find a Moon Pie anymore is Bass Pro Shop?”
Me: “I had no idea.”
But, thought to myself that it might explain some things. However, I didn’t say that. He was too raw. Been through too much. This was no time to speak the truth in love. This was the time for lies.
Me again: “That’s awful, Honey. I’m so sorry.”
There was only one thing that was going to make my man feel better. Our spirits intertwined, we both seemed to know. I nodded toward the bag and he opened it. He pulled out a chocolate Moon Pie. I pulled out a banana Moon Pie. And we ate them in total silence.
But in my heart I felt that inner glee bloggers feel when you know that you’ve just had an encounter that is destined to become a spectacular blog post. It’s a rush of sparkling, clean adrenalin. Keith was just about to head to the ranch so I said, plotting, of course, “Honey, do you want me to just send you with a couple of these and save the rest?” (He’d gotten a large bag full. After all, they’re hard to find.) So, he said, just as I knew he would, “Yep, that’s what we better do.”
So he headed out the door and down I-10 with a ration of one-a-day and I headed to work with a bag of Moon Pies. On my way, I called AJ and said, “Bring your camera to lunch. I have some pictures I need you to take for a blog post. It’s going to be great.” Only, when she came to lunch, between the baby and all the commotion of the restaurant, she didn’t have time to take the shots.
Her: “Can I take them home with me and do it there?”
Me: “Yep, and then be sure to give them to Curtis.” And that was the exact moment the plan went totally awry. MY MEANING WAS: GIVE THEM TO CURTIS SO HE CAN BRING THEM BACK TO WORK AND I CAN RETURN THEM UNSCATHED TO THE KITCHEN OF KEITH MOORE, MY MOON PIE MAN.
Thinking we clearly understood one another, I promptly forgot.
Until last night after Keith got home from the ranch and I heard the biggest ruckus in the kitchen followed by colorful choices of words.
Me: “What on earth is the matter?”
Him: “I can’t find my Moon Pies!”
Me, but only to self: “Oh my gosh. Please, no.”
So I text AJ: “Your father is tearing the kitchen apart looking for his Moon Pies. Where are they?”
Oh, the painful finality of her response. At times of crisis, all you can do is turn to Scripture.
“She took of the [Moon Pie] thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.”
And swore I’d told her to.
It was a rough night at the Moore house. Sometimes a man doesn’t need his woman. He just needs his Moon Pie. The man has the taste buds of a ten year-old.
Thank goodness, the sun came up again this morning even after a moonless night. But there will be a reckoning at Bass Pro today.
Here are the moon pies before things went wrong - very, very wrong.

And the bag from Bass Pro.

So, OK, Siestas. So it made me think about you. What treat from your childhood do you still long to have?

a cold coke in a little glass bottle. yum.
I knew my Chris and Keith would get along smashingly. He loves Moon Pies, too!
Wait, let me call him and find out where he gets them..."gas stations," says Chris, "oh and Little Debbie has a fair facsimile of them--But they are not Moon Pies."
So there you have it. That and now I'm singing, "Just a swingin'"
Love you!
Holly
Haha! Beth that is a hilarious story! :D Thanks for sharing it!
I'm stilla teen, but my favorite childhood snack would have to be Fundip! Which i c an only find during holidays that involve passing out candy to children :( !!
In Christ,
Shayla
Sugar Daddy and Big Hunk!!!! lucky you can still find them as candy bars in some stores.....(guess you could say my husband is both a Big Hunk and a Sugar Daddy!!!!)......fun blog, Pam in San Diego
PS I loved ice cream sandwiches, as a kid. They just don't seem to taste the same anymore.
Apple Fried Pies found in the convience stores that are terribly crusty and really, really bad for you...
Cheese Puffs
Original A&W Root Beer in the frosted mugs
Not sure whether to laugh or cry.
And I'm thinking that Curtis better hightail it to get 2 bags of those things.
It's always the seemingly little things that set us off, isn't it?!
Favorite indulgence from childhood: Cheetos and Dr. Pepper (together). Or a coke float.
Pretty much anything chocolate will do for me. If I've bought something special and my kids or husband even look at it like they're going to ask for a bite, I growl and snap like a dog! I'm that way with Pepsi too.
My poor family!
My grandma's peanutbutter ricekrispy treats. NOONE could mix the peanut butter in in just the right proportion the way that she did. NOBODY!
Now I guess I gotta wait til Heaven to get em again. Cause I KNOW she is fillin up her squirrel cookie jar with em just for me! (and, in Heaven, Rocky's tail is probabaly not chipped - a remnant from someone who was just too short to get it down herself and just too impatient to wait fro Grandma to get it down for her).
Great new look. Ok now for my long for snack/desert from when I was a kid. Hostess Suzy-Q's. Every time I walk by them at the store I long to have one. Only problem is you have to buy a whole box and I don't need a whole box of them.
Thanks for the good laugh today. Life has been crazy busy. Kim B. in AZ
OH MY WORD, this made me laugh out loud!! Thanks for the good grin this am. And it was Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream from Baskin Robbins for me.
Hilarious, Beth :) When I think of childhood treats, I think of those Pixie sticks, but I haven't had one for ages -- and not sure I'd even want one now! :)
Cute new blog look. For some reason the size of print is kind of awkward for me, though -- think it has something to do with trying to focus in with my bifocals. Good grief! :)
That is just what I needed this morning. A full on LAUGH OUT LOUD blog. Hilarious! Growing up in a small town in Texas, my Dad would make some stops at this little convenience store that had the BEST coke icee's. They were like no other! Seriously. I have not had anything like them. De-lish! Many years later, Dad and I paid a visit to this little store only to find out they changed owners and that icee machine was done away with. Oh the pain I felt. I still long and crave for that wonderful, cold, give-you-a-brain-freeze icee today. :(
ROTFL over here!!! Too funny!!! Poor Keith!!! :)
Moon Pies are really good. So are those little black cup cakes with the white icing squiggled on top...???...oh, the name escapes me.....DING-DONGS, that's it! Ding-Dongs. Loved those as a child! I'm presently working my tushie off to try and lose some weight this summer so no Ding-Dongs in my immediate future. Maybe after summer. :)
Blessings,
Sharon
That is too funny! Poor Keith!
A few things I still long for from my youth.
Bombpops, rainbow are my fav, but banana & choc are yummy too
BIG RED...yummy!
Peanut bumpies - this was a road trip treat like no other.
STill love cotton candy too.
I still love cotton candy and Pop Rocks!
Cracker Barrels also carry Moon Pies, in case Cracker Barrel is closer than Bass Pro Shop!
Or, if you're in the mood for a "labor of love", here's a recipe for homemade moon pies: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/gale-gand/mini-moon-pies-recipe/index.html
Oh, this is the funniest story ever and something I would totally get myself into!
For me, I love Little Debbie Swiss Cakes.
Crack me up!! I miss the chocolate ice cream with swirls of peanut butter from Baskin’ Robbins. We would ride our bikes there after school every day before my mom returned home from work. I don’t know if the evidence of our chocolate mustaches gave us away or not.
Necco wafer candy. My sister and I got them every Saturday morning when my Mom took us to get groceries at the IGA store in Lincoln, Nebraska. The brown(chocolate) were the best although the black, green and yellow were mighty good. The roll would usually last through the weekend, unless we were especially disciplined and ate only a few each day through the week. Still love them. Love my Mom. Love you all, too.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. This isn't child's play. May the Lord be blessed in His kindness towards Bass Pro Shop and their exceedingly abundant measures of moonpie.
This made me laugh so hard!!! " Sometimes a man doesn't need his woman, he needs his moonpie"???? LOL!!!! Actually my memory is not sweets, It's my moms homade biscuits and good ol fattening gravy!!!! Of course that was the days when I could eat 6 biscuits and still look like I was a starving child from Africa... well, maybe S. Africa... LOL!!!! Thank you for being real! And I too love it when you know that you have a great "blog subjuct"~~~ Have a blessed weekend~ Deanna
Oh yeah, favorite childhood snack...
Sausage biscuit from McDonald's with strawberry jam and hashbrown smushed in between.
I'm canadian so I don't know if the snacks translate :) but I my husband and I still love a good slurpee. Even in -40 degree canadian weather!
Trish
Canada
LOVE the new blog look!!!
Whenever I think of a childhood snack, I think of a Tab and Nabs. (My mom was always on a diet.) :-)
Hostess fruit pies from the day old bread store. My Mother kept them in the garage in the freezer and we would STEAL them from the freezer and eat them STILL FROZEN. Unfortunately this bit of fruit pie revelry only lasted one summer. Her frugalness was short-lived and she wouldn't buy them at the normal grocery store.
The only other thing is I cannot, to this day, resist the merry jingle of the ice cream man's truck. We are like mad animals running around the house digging up change and sending the littlest (now 13) out to flag him down. Push-up pops...who can resist?
You can get moonpies.. IN BULK at Sam's! :o) I just saw them (at the Sugar Land Sams Club) last time I was there... Hope this helps out Keith a little bit moving forward!
Rice Crispie treats - I would eat them everyday!
I would just give anything to go back to my school days and have chicken fried steak in the cafeteria. It was the best. It sounds so weird but all my friends still miss it too! I was thinking I could get it again when my kids are in elementary school and I just happen to show up on CFS day to have lunch with them, but I heard they don't serve it anymore. So sad!
Amazon sells them
http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=moon+pie&tag=yahhyd-20&index=aps&hvadid=17780213011&ref=pd_sl_1deysdge75_e
That. Was. Hilarious!!
Root Beer Float - hands down! Haven't had one in ages.
Thanks for the great story I needed a good laugh this morning. I loved sponge taffy as a kid and just recently saw it in the stores again so tried it. It wasn't quite as wonderful as I remember!! Also like Dr. Pepper and ju jubes.
FUNNY! I thought my husband was the only person who ate those things.
A few years ago, I had an after school Bible study for girls, and I asked my husband to bring home snacks for our meeting. He brought moon pies, and the girls wouldn't touch them. :)
You crack me up!!!
Funyons chips--ate those with Daddy a lot! Also, Sugar Babies or Daddy suckers--really anything sweet. Another favorite is the chewy Sweettarts (the big ones!)--I still have the sweet tooth, although like many others it doesn't fit into the diet quite so much. Self control is a hard thing when the sugar's callin'!!
I'm praying for Melissa and the team!!
Audrey in Illinois
That was so funny Beth!!!
My childhood treat are goteez (those carmel things with the white stuff in the middle)
Let me know if Keith needs a new supply, down here they are everywhere.
You can still get moon pies at any gas station or grocery store here in our small town. But it is hard to find Reeses candy bars in the cooler along with a glass-bottled coke! Bring Keith to visit anytime! Tallassee AL
definitely Mallomars for me...which now that I think of it...I think they are kind of similar to a moon pie? I'll have to look at the pictures more clearly.
Thanks for the scripture, now where exactly can I find that one? LOL!!
That was sooooo funny...thanks for making me laugh...hard! I'll be thinking of you guys and smiling all day, I'm sure! ;)
That's hysterical! My dad recently got tranferred to North Carolina, and the one thing he brought to us during a recent visit was a Moon Pie :) My six-year old didn't seem to understand the sacredness of this treat, even though I allowed him to have his share for breakfast one morning before school. He took a bite and asked for cereal. I ate the rest :)
I agree with Amanda about school food. My elementary and middle schools had THE BEST rectangle slices of pepperoni pizza EVER. I can still taste it if I close my eyes real tight and think hard. Yuuuum.
Snowballs!! Gotta love the chocolate cake and cream filled ball covered in pink marshmallow with coconut flakes. The Best!!
So funny.
And if you're in the mood for EXTRA delicious-ness pop that moon pie in the microwave for about 7-8 seconds (just until the marshmallow is about to blow the top slam off) and you've got a 'smore MoonPie! It's delicous. Trust me.
Okay. My childhood love was Spagettio's. Chef Boyardee brand in the BLUE can. They've changed them. I bought some recently. The ones back then did NOT smell like dog food and have a strange tin-like aftertaste. Right? Anybody?
Love ya Siestas!
Erica
Oh and Amanda just made me rember school pizza, the square ones... oh yeah. When i was expecting my son I went to the local school and explained to the lunch lady that my preganancy was not going to be very smooth unless I could order a case of school pizza, so next week when the new supply of square pizza's arrived the lunch lady called me to come get my case... It was 50 pizza's (I ate them all)
Oh thank you Sweet Jesus for the smile!!! I just love Him so for working your post into a hard day - his timing is perfect! Thank you Beth Moore for your faithfulness even in the small things. We do love you so at our house!!!
A coke in a glass bottle with peanuts poured in. Wonderful!! :-)
Oh Amanda, I loved chicken fried steak day at school too...they always served it with mashed potatos and gravy and a huge peanut butter cookie, I remember one day my friend was sick and I got to eat hers too..should I be glad about that??? Probably not :)
another thing I miss which is probably sick and wrong, is candy cigaretts...I just loved puffing out the powdered sugar and acting all grown up...lol
Marcy in Redmond, OR
I laughed out loud when I read this one!!
Snickerdoodles!! Not near as good when I bake them.
Keep takin' care of that man!
Kathy
1)Marathon Bars
2)Ding Dongs eaten methodically the same way every time.
3)Oreos soaked in milk for approx. 12 seconds.
My 8 year old daughter is in the process of perfecting the "milk dunk time." My husband said it took her 15 minutes the other night to eat 3 Oreos ;-)
Allyson
hi miss beth,
i would say cinnamon toast crunch cereal!
have a good day,
::taylor
I still crave Chili Pies from Sonic :)Being pregnant with baby #2 doesn't help this any!
And moon pies....Nothin' like'em :)
Love you,
Kate :)
oh my dear, that sure did make be laugh!! and I live for great blog post and facebook status fodder... you did what you had to do.
I crave cheetohs and fountain cokes!
Graham crackers + frosting :)
We never really had sweets in the house...graham crackers were our "sweet treat".
But, if there happened to be a little tub of frosting in the cupboard (for special occasion cupcakes or something), I would sneak a graham cracker...and dip it in the frosting when nobody was around. YUM!!! Still love this combination! :)
love this post...i was just thinking to myself the other day where did all the moon pies go?
i would pick moon pies and fun dip!!
great blog...i enjoyed having a chuckle this morning :)
I so needed this good hearty laugh that's coming out of me this morning! You're the best!
i wonder if I can find moon pies in southern California...Now I have to have one! See you in Stockten!
The tiny wax bottles that you chewed the top off of to drink the sweet, sweet colored juice inside. Actually, though, a banana moon pie sounds good!!
Beth - that is too funny!! I felt such trauma this morning when my husband drank all my coffee!!!!
alpine white - a delicious candy bar they don't even make anymore - oh the torture I have endured these past few years :)
oh and little white donuts - yummy!!!
Marcy, yes! The candy cigarettes! Oh my gosh, can you even imagine those being sold now? Lol. Our Nanny used to let us get those sometimes.
My favorite candy when i was a kid, was the big Jolly Rancher Candy Sticks. They were about an inch wide, and 5-6 inches long...
Perhaps it was the thrill of the inherent danger in getting one or all of my teeth stuck - which proved to especially menacing if i had one or more loose teeth, at the time... or the fact that it became not too dissimilar from a type of weapon, forming a sharp point as the stick was consumed... what an adventure in enjoying a shiny, clear delicious candy!
Even more titillating was the occasion to take the dare to choose the Fire stick. Nobody needed to triple-dog dare me to get me to try it... a double-dog dare usually did the trick.
Ah! What i wouldn't give to enjoy one, these days. I'm assuming they were discontinued as child safety laws were improved upon. lol
Peanuts and a cold coke in a little glass bottle! Nothing better!
Tastykakes - especially Butterscotch Krimpets and Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. They remind me of my early childhood in PA and my grandparents.
Beth, I live in Tennessee & Moon Pies just run amuck here!! And not just the original, but I think I've seen every flavor they make. I've never been very fond of them myself, but don't tell Keith that. If might be too much for him to think that there is anyone in the world that doesn't love Moon Pies as much as he does!) If you are ever in need of some just post a blog to let me know & I could ship you some!!
Oh, & one of my favorite childhood snacks was a candy bar called a Marathon bar. It was sort of like a braided rope of caramel & it was coated in chocolate. I don't think they make them anymore. I was a child in the 70's & 80's & I think I last remember seeing them in stores around the early 80's.
I think we can get them hear, but havent checked.Guess i need to,for my son loves them.I cant stand them ha,poor man all he wanted was the moon pie's ,Amanda the reasion i do anoymous is because I dont know how to do the otehr nor can I post a picture.God bless love seoster in Christ Victoria Reidsville NC
Oh how i loved fridays in elementary school.... SNACK BAR DAY! To this day, every time i see a Rocket Pop, i just have to get one! We used to dip them in our cherry soda (ya know cause more sugar was essential). Yum, nostalgic! You are right, as I read I knew this was turning into the best blog post ever!
Oh that is the funniest thing! Poor Keith!
I still love...but have to totally avoid....Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes!
Blessings
Michelle
Jell-O pudding pops. I have talked about these for years. Oh my goodness, they are heavenly. Last year, I went to Wal-mart one Saturday and wanted a treat and saw a box that looked exactly like they used to look. I actually teared up and called my husband immediately. We have had many conversations about the joy of a pudding pop. I still think about them almost every time I watch the Cosby Show since it was Mr. Cosby himself who first sold me on these. I bought them and we got one out immediately when I got home... they aren't the same. What a letdown! They just taste like fudgesicles. There was something so delicately delicious about the creaminess of the originals that just can't be found again. I guess my next try is just whipping up a batch of chocolate pudding and putting them in ice trays with popsicle sticks. We shall see if my tastebuds can be awakened once more to the exhiliration those little popsicles brought me 20 years ago. :)
I pretty much never grew out of the "taste buds of a 10-year-old". I've yet to really grow up and would love to eat chicken nuggets, mac and cheese and popsicles, french fries and a good peanut butter sandwich. Oh, well!
Have a splendid weekend!
What is a Moon Pie? Is it cakey? Or fudgey like a brownie? Hmmm.
I miss the $100,000 bar and Big Buddy Bubblegum. Both came in packages that were a foot long - I loved getting so much for so little money!
This made me laugh so hard that I am crying! My diddy loves Moon Pies, too.
From my childhood.......anything chocolate :)
"Oh my gosh!!! I am in middle of getting my garage sale ready and hating every minute of it!!! I come in for a moment of refreshment and the Lord provides your post! I know it's good when I am laughing out loud - just me and my computer!! Just what I needed - THANKS!!!!!

WHAT A CUTE NEW BLOG DESIGN!!!
Hilarious story about Keith. My father-in-law also has the taste buds of a 10 year old. He can eat gummy worms like it's his JOB.
I, myself, have never been a Moon-Pie connoisseur. Probably because my dad always bought them for his "boys only" fishing trips. So I rebuked them out of sheer protest.
I'd much prefer the Little Debbie Fudge Rounds and Swiss Rolls. O. My. Yum.
Hilarious !
Mine would be Pop Rocks, Tart & Tinies, and those yummy, sugary Pixy Sticks.
But, they actually have this cool machine at the campground [where my Mom & I are seasonal campers-mostly weekends, though], and it has like 10 spout like things where you can choose the flavors of the Pixy Stick type of candy.
And, this will be our first weekend camping [or maybe half weekend, depending upon the weather]. However, do not worry about us. We are all prepared, as "we" [Mom & me] have a 5th wheel trailer, with nearly everything that one could want,
and, we are even bringing along an electric blanket in case it gets too cold at night.
And, by the way, I do not think I have ever tried a Moon Pie ~
Love, in Christ Jesus,

I feel Keith's pain. When you want that thing, and you think about it all day...and its not there...oh my...I can't tell you how many times that happen to me with my Hostess Snowball's. I have four sons and I would hide them in the fridge so they couldnt get them..and they found them. 10:00pm I'm searching and searching...oh I was so ticked!! hahaha...and one more a taffy SLAPSTICK..its got a layer of carmel, and than a layer of pink taffy, than yellow taffy and than carmel, and its a sucker. THE BEST!! I have to go to a penny candy store in Romeo, Michigan to get them...oh about 30 miles away...On the way back from the cidermill in October is my yearly run to pick them up. Moon Pies are good..something about marshmellow..
If your talking comfort snacks, I agree with those who say Coke in a glass bottle -- the 1970's bottles that is ... tall, thick and cold bottles. But it's complete when you drink it with some Ho-Ho's ... in the back of a pickup ... going down a country road ... in the summer ... just before dusk. (have I gone too far??)
And as far as other comfort foods -- well nothing beats fried bologna with a bit of mustard on white bread. Being "poor" Ozark people (we never knew we were), my dad often referred to it as "Missouri Round Steak."
you can find them at the dollar stores too!
does texas have dollar stores? :)
Snow balls! You know the chocolate cupcake with fake whipped cream in the middle, and the pink marshmallow coconut covering!
Oh, I just realized it was the MARATHON bar, not the $100,000 bar!
L.
I am rolling on the floor with laughter! Does Keith like an RC cola with his moon pie? Can't find those anymore either.
My husband and I like banana flips. Haven't had one of those in a good long while. Maybe I should try our bait and tackle place?
Have a great weekend!
Much love!
The Journey Continues ~
Beth & the Scooter Pie King=Keith,
We call them in California
SCOOTER PIES!!!
My husband wasn't allowed to have them as a child because they weren't healthy ~ so, He would go over to his friends house and sneak them! They were one of his favorites!! He is allowed to have as many as he wants now!!! :)
I know what you can give Keith for Father's Day ~ A huge beautifully wrapped box of Scooter= Moon Pies!!
I love you!
Laughing Out Loud in California!

There is nothing worse than having a hankerin for something but you just don't know what it is. And... searching the kitchen - first the refrigerator. You know what I'm talking about. You open the frig once than twice than three times. Thinking somehow something changed since the first time you opened the door. Then you search the cupboards. To no avail. Nothing is worse than not being able to satisfy that desire. That need for...what ever you think your needing. Especially hard when you can't figure out what that something would even be. Alas you go to bed.....unsatisfied. Tomorrow is a new day Scarlet.
I am just dying laughing over here....the funniest thing is that you recognized the "anointing moment" of a good blog post! I think all bloggers do that...and it is hilarious!
Here's hoping for a moom-pie filled weekend!
I miss being able to go to the corner store and get a WHOLE BAG full of candy for $.25...wax drinks, sweet-tarts (huge ones),penny bubble gum, jaw breakers...too many to remember... I loved the cokes in bottles, collecting empty bottles and returning them for more cokes...
Oh my goodness! THAT was funny. I have a man like that too. Some things just SHOULD NOT CHANGE. Things like the availability of Moon Pies and (for my man) Wheat Hearts Cereal. At least you can still get Moon Pies someplace. General Mill stopped making my man's favorite cereal - which he ate EVERY day for 25 years - altogether. Life is hard.
The "treat" that takes me back to childhood is (this is going to sound awful to some...) a peanut butter and dill pickle sandwich. My husband thinks I'm crazy.
Hey again
Believe it or not you can get "candy cigarettes" here in NC. They are in a box that looks like a cigarette pack and they are called "candy sticks" They don't have the red dot on the end though.
So funny!
A childhood treat for me are airheads and nachos. We always used to eat these at our neighborhood swim meets during the summer. Such fun memories!
The Journey Continues ~
Forgot to add this ~
What is your favorite, Beth??
You didn't share what you, Amanda and Melissa like for your favorite goody!!!!
My paternal grandfather was a "Candy Man" and had Bill's Dandy Candy Truck that filled the shelves of local stores all around the valleyin California. I was SPOILED with any kind of candy I wanted. I would climb into his truck and it was like CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY for me!! Shelves and shelves of any kind of candy you could ever imagine. Wax lips, wax juice bottles that you bite the top off and drink, Reese's, Hershey's, candy necklaces, oh my... it was a girls dream ~ and I could have anything I wanted!!!
I want to know what you and your gorgeous girls liked as favorites! Also, what does Jackson love??
With "Heaven Bound" Blessings,
Kim Safina
Pop Rocks. But come to think of it, I still buy them here and there.
I knew I lived in The Backside of Nowhere, but I really know it now,
'cause I'm pretty sure they still sell them at my local nothing-fancy-here grocery store. LOL Let me know if there is ever a Moon Pie famine down there and Fed Ex and I will fix you up!!
I can remember sitting in the backseat of our car with a bottle of grape (I didn't like Coke back then) and a bag of peanuts. Cruising through the countryside with my parents and the windows rolled down. Ahhhh, I wish I could go back there for one more ride!
Love you and your family to pieces!!
I LOVED your moonpie story!! Laughed out loud. A bottle of cold coke. A small bag of peanuts. Pour the peanuts into the coke. YUM!!!! Wow, I haven't had this in years!! Think I'll just treat myself tonight.
Oh, my goodness! What a riot!!
Would you believe that my favorite childhood treat was a cream soda and moon pie? 'Tis true. There's nothing appealing about either one today.
I'm falling off my chair with laughter...poor Keith! I feel his pain. For me, it's Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls! My childhood addiction followed me into adulthood which proved to be a very bad thing. I checked myself into into Snack Cake Rehab (Weight Watchers) last fall and managed to finally kick the habit. I can't even look at them on the grocery shelf now...just gotta turn away and keep on walking. (The spirit is willing but the flesh is WEAK...)
Orange Creamsicles - holy cow, had not thought about those in a long time. On Sunday afternoons, we would always take a discover, (fill in the blank of where ever we were living), trip and we would always find one of those little stores, and we were allowed to get a bag of candy or whatever treat. My brothers always, always, got peanuts to pour in a little coke, but I always got a creamsicle!
thanks for asking and thanks for sharing your life with us.
Love and Blessings, Debbie in Tennessee
Let's hear a shoutout for the candy cigerettes! Loved those things and thought I was so cool. And the wax bottles with the sweet juice inside, yum. And how about the candy necklace? Jewelry you could eat!
There was a cookie I loved, I believe the name was "Rock 'n Roll". They were kinda like a spice cookie with pink icing on them. I grew up in rural North Carolina and I used to get a pack of Rock N Roll cookies with a grape soda. Ummm, wish I had one now!
Oh and my Chris loves the Pink Things he used to get at Six Flags over Texas.
OH Goodness. I can't even imagine what it was like to be on the receiving end of that text.
So, the other day my husband asks me if it's in the budget to get more ice cream. I said we had to be careful, but I could manage to get some. So he said not to worry about it.
The night before we had combined the last 2 half gallon containers because there wasn't quite enough in each to warrant them having their own space.
So, I finished it the next day. (OF COURSE after having gotten more) When he came home from work and saw the empty container in the sink (which I left there purposely to see if I knew him as well as I thought I did) he immediately opened the freezer.
I, in the next room, started laughing hysterically. He peeks around the corner at which time he was met with my remark: "You are so predictable."
Our almost 6 year old said, "Daddy is not predictable." To which his daddy replied, "On some things Ray, yes I am."
I'll check for some Moon Pies in Pittsburgh. Maybe you can stock up in June. :)
Oatmeal Creme Pies. 'nuff said.
I loved special Saturday mornings when my mother would sometimes bring home brownies from the bakery. Calories didn't mean a thing back then. Ah, those were the days my friend. I thought they'd never end.
Great blog,
Deidra
Honeydew ice cream on a regular cone from Nealand's Dairy. The alternative favorite flavor was/is butterfudge. Too bad the dairy closed years ago. Neither flavor is to be found anywhere.
An RC Cola and a bag of peanuts dumped in the cola or better yet Nehi Orange or Strawberry with peanuts. Okay I am telling my age but it didn't get much better than that in my day.
Elizabeth, I scrolled through all the comments thinking about my favorite treat and nobody had mentioned TastyKakes. There you were, the last post I read and your mentioned them. I grew up in and around the Philadelphia area and those were my favorite, especially the Butterscotch ones. I live in Minnesota now and they are not to be found out here anywhere. And believe me, I've looked.
too many:
Count Chocula cereal
Zebra Cakes
Gummi Hamburgers
Frooties (the fruit flavored tootsie rolls from parades)
I've never had a Moon Pie! But do I know the feeling of what bloggers feel--the glee of what's going to be a spectacular blog post, too funny, I thought that was just me. :)
When my husband and I were dating, he in Canada and me in California, he'd send me Coffee Crisp bars, which you can't get in the States. He'd send me a box of them and I'd ration them. I'd take them to work in my lunch, and have one bite a day, during the week, so I'd finish the bar on Friday. Do you know what discipline that takes to rewrap a chocolate bar?? They don't put resealable closures on them for a reason.
Now that I am in Canada, though, and can get them anytime, they just don't taste the same, unless my husband buys one for me and brings it home, and yes, I eat the whole thing now.
www.moonpie.com
you can order online
Can't get em in Pittsburgh at all.
Fluffernutters and home made Devil Dogs.
Oh my goodness, Beth - as you say, "you SLAY me!" :o)
I think mine is watermelon hard candies...like Jolly Ranchers. There used to me some other brands but I can't ever find them anymore!
I LOVE the new look, by the way!
SO.FUNNY!
I miss the Butter Rum Lifesavers (that are still around but hard to find...gas stations are usually my only hope.
I am a huge fan of corn nuts...they are the MOST annoying thing to listen to when someone else is eating them but oh my...they are SO good!!! Again...gas stations are my only hope!
Hilarious, but I totally understand. I am hooked on Goo Goo Clusters- frozen. And they are getting hard to find too. We have an over abundance of Moon Pies here in TN- you can get them by the case almost anywhere- I'll try to pop some in the mail to you all!
cold coke in little glass bottle. for 10cents. A classic. And Lemon heads candy. Herrs Salt & Vineager Chips.
When all else fails, Cinnamon toast and a glass of milk.
Oh fun....we lived on a very strict budget when I was younger. Not complaining, I am thankful that I have that background. None the less we bought bobo store brand cookies when we were able to buy a treat at all. So excitement to me as I got older and started working where I could go to the store and sneak a bag of OREO'S or KEEBLER FUDGE STRIPE cookies. To this day I love them (now with a cup of coffee) and my children will tell you my goal in life when I became an adult with a family of my own was to have dessert every night. (I'm trying to pull back and maybe have dessert 2 or 3 nights a week). The woes of getting older and working harder to stay somewhat in shape. LOOOOVVVEE THEM OREOS.
Ha...Oh my did that blog make me laugh...and I needed a laugh today! It is in fact holy medicine, right? :) Thanks for sharing! I have written Blue Bell about an ice cream that was only around a couple of years and then discontinued. It seems everything i like is discontinued...treats at starbucks, la madeleine, etc. I'm sure it is due to the fact that I have wierd taste buds. The ice cream was called chocolate marshmallow crunch...the name speaks for itself. Yum! Console your man with the fact that at least he can find his moon pies somewhere. The gas stations usually have them....thats where I find my pink marshmallow balls when I want to indulge (I have no idea of their name but they are pink and filled with marshmallows so you can't go wrong.) Ok, this is entirely too long now, sorry. Praying for Melissa!
Beth, I loved that in the midst of it all that you thought of sharing the story with your siestas! And pray tell, let us know how you managed not to have a look on your face that would have given your plans away.
You see, I have three sisters and my dear husband knows by the look on my face just when he has given me material that just must be shared.
When you asked for childhood treats, I thought of meeting my Grandpa in New London, Wisconsin at a small bar called Manske's that served the best burgers. And then Grandpa would buy us an orange soda and a KitKat bar. Was there just a couple years ago for my uncle's 80th birthday and my cousin and I toasted our orange sodas in Grandpa's memory.
Terri
Your story made me snort with laughter...how embarrassing.
One of my favorites from childhood is licorice ice cream from Baskin Robbins. I used to get it in a cone along with a scoop of mint chocolate chip. Sounds gross...but I loved it!
It's definitely a GUY THING! My dad loved Moon Pies, my brother keeps BOXES of them on hand at all times, and last week I came home to find a big box of the banana Moon Pies in my kitchen (hubby)!! I'm with you TB - love those COKE ICEE's! My dad used to get me one on the way home from fishing trips! Brings back very sweet memories for me.
Doris
Trussville, Alabama
Nutter-Butters and a glass bottle of Coke!
My favorite candy treat was a "Firestick". Flat, red hard candy about 5 inches long. Haven't seen one in ages.
your post had me in stitches. Oh man, what a great story. Thanks so much for sharing it! You are so fun! :) Won't it be fun to get all of us bloggers together in heaven and laugh our heads off? :)
I have always had a love of chocolate ice cream and chocolate shakes! :)
Have a blessed weekend!
Cheryl
ps-said a prayer for Melissa as she is off to India today! :)
those tiger-striped coconut dipped looking like a twinkie but far from a twinkie things. They're red and white. YUM!
Well, Moon Pies, of course!!!!! In fact, I've even been to the annual RC and Moon Pie festival in Bell Buckle, TN! Love those things. You can find them usually at gas stations and (very) occasionally at a grocery store. It's my absolute favorite snack!
I actually, Gulp now ladies, get frozen shoe-string french fries and microwave them until they are soft. I lovingly splatter ketchup everywhere and indulge. I know it is weird and grosses my whole family out, but it is my confort food.
Too funny! When I was little, I begged my mom and by begged, I mean pestered her to buy me a moon pie. One bite and I realized I did not like it. so she instructed me to throw it out the window of the car, which I did..only for it to go SPLAT on the side of her car... She was mad, I was in trouble and it was a silent ride home.. me, my mom and the vein popping out of her head!! My candy?? Maple sugar candy..talk about a sugar high...
Moon Pies from a general store in Grassy Creek, NC were a family favorite for years. When we went to visit my Nana Ruth on her tobacco farm, my dad always bought boxes to last for a millennium or so.
My favorite from childhood were strawberry Charleston Chews -- frozen, not stirred (er, you know what I mean -- had to be solid as rocks and break teeth to be worth it). What I wouldn't give for one now...
What a delight -- your funny post -- reading all these great memories of others -- and your wonderful new look.
Fizzies -- grape flavored. Can't get them any more. They were tablets that you dropped into a glass of water to create soda pop.
I was in Portland last week -- you teaching was a blessing!
rita
OH........
A Dusty Sundae!
Only our local ice cream parlor seemed to know what it was, which is a Hot Fudge Sundae with Malt sprinkled on top before the real Whipped Cream! To die for!! Wouldn't dare get on that kick now with Old Age Spread and needing to buy bigger pants!
What fun!!
Too funny. Here in the Midwest, Cracker Barrel restaurants carry Moon Pies. FYI for future crises!
Hostess chocolate cupcakes and a glass of milk! Mmmm.
Thanks for the memories! Here goes my list
-Eskimo Pies---dark chocolate is good for you?
-Frosty mug of root beer
-Red tootsie pops dipped in a Coke Slurpee
-Hot Tamales
-Cherry Mash
-(pink) Peanut Patty
-Lik-M-Ade
-Peanuts dropped in a cold Coke (glass bottle of couse)
-Polar Bear Ice Cream...double dip with chocolate chip on bottom and lime sherbet on top
RC Cola is a must with those Moon Pies. I guess I still have the heart of a ten year old, too!
Now, in Mississippi that Moon Pie would be accompanied by an RC Cola! We still have Moon Pies everywhere...you obviously need to move! ;-)
My fav was a glass coke filled with a bag of salted peanuts! i am salivating now!
Gummi worms. There were other faves, but that's what I eat the most of now.
Amanda's post about chicken fried chicken made me think about our new cafeteria manager at the elementary school where I work. When she put in her first big food order with the distributer, she ordered hamburger patties. The first time she served them for lunch, she tried one, and kept wondering, "Why does this taste like meatloaf?" She finally checked the box they came in and discovered that she had indeed mistakenly ordered meatloaf patties, but they looked exactly the same as the hamburgers so it took her all day to figure out the mistake. Talk about mystery meat!
In fact, looking back, I think she may not be the first cafeteria manager to make that mistake. ;-)
Oh my word! I thought my Daddy was the only one with such an intense Moon Pie obsession. Ever since I was a little munchkin, Mom would always pack a whole box of Moon Pies in with my Daddy's hunting supplies.
I desperately miss the bottled Coke my grandmother used to keep in her refrigerator door.
I almost hate to admit this, but I have never eaten a Moon Pie. What does it taste like and is it really that good?? My favorite childhood snack was Tab cola and a frozen Marathon Candy bar.
Beth - You (and Keith) need to come to Chattanooga, home of the Moon Pie bakery. When you drive by it, you can smell them... And of course they are fresher when you buy them here. A Moon Pie and an RC Cola - now that is a treat!
My favorite childhood treats - those zingers cakes with teh raspberry and coconut on the outside. There were days in high school (hanging head in shame) where that was what I ate for lunch.
Other thing I loved when we lived in Scotland was something called (I think) "Cremola Foam" which was a powder you added to water - which flavored it but also made it fizz and foam....think a flavored Alka-seltzer. Loved it then, but it sounds WEIRD now.
Hugs,
Adrienne
i wasn't raised by my biological father, i was adopted by the most amazing dad a girl could want. i did however get to maintain a certain amount of contact with my biological grandparents who i loved very much although i have only a few vivid memories of them. one of those memories brings a taste in my mouth for cream soda!! i can't drink too much of it, it is awfully sweet, but sometimes my mouth waters for it anyway. it is probably purely the memory of sitting in the lap of my grandma or grandpa. my favorite all time childhood treat though----and it remains my favorite is a plain soft vanilla ice cream cone from any small ice cream stop!! yum!!
Mallo Cups (no question or hesitation)
OMG...this post is GREAT!!!!
I still crave those cheap little shortbread cookies with the little red dot of "jam" in the middle. I think you can only find them on rare occasions at the day-old bread stores.
They're awesome. I can eat an entire package in one sitting.
Shannon
White Hall, AR
Hee, hee , hee.
Orange Tic Tacs, for me please!
No bake cookies...eat them while there hot!!! Then experience a head rush like no other!!
Sometimes the simplest foods are the best. :-)
That is the funniest thing I have read in a while.
My childhood treat would have to be. . . a Ding Dong. I love them! The only thing that has changed is the wrapper. It's not foil anymore, but the taste--oh my goodness!
Stephanie
Haha - thank for the laugh this morning!
Oh that is way to funny!!!
Jello Pudding Pops yummy!!! And those Mallowmar cookies and a peach Nehi.
Not to mention Pop Rocks, Gatorade Gum and Dr. Pepper Gum, and of course the Lucky Cigarette Gum.
This was way to fun, and Amanda your school lunches must have been waaaay better than ours..
Happy Friday!!
Beth - I have a really bright idea (at least I think so):
Can we Siestas start a fund called the "Fun Fund" and collect money to buy you a month's stay (or however long it would take) somewhere private and off the beaten path where you will have time to meditate and ponder -- for the sole (I almost wrote "soul") purpose of....... writing a book about you and Keith - how you met, those early years and now the later years. I know it would be a hoot and a half and I could use me a hoot and a half most days.
What do you say? Will you indulge us? These posts about you and Keith are so dang funny and I always have to share them with my Displaced West Texas Moon Pie Hunting Lovin' Husband.
I'll happily make the first contribution!
Warm in Alaska.
--my childhood love - Bazooka Bubblegum. Yum.
too too funny.
and love the fact that I'm not the only one that instantly smiles (usually only on the inside) knowing something blog worthy has just occurred.
I think I'm going to have to make myself some shirts to warn people of the likelihood of them being blogged.
My daughter called me from Oklahoma City this morning begging me to get on the blog ASAP to read the thing. I laughed my belly off! When you have a craving, you have a craving and you stop nothing short of getting what you want no matter how many stores it takes. See, this is why I am not a missionary. How in the world do you get what you want in a distant land? For me, it is an ice cream cone with chocolate chip on the bottom and chocolate chip mint on the top. My daddy used to take us to Baskin Robbins and he ordered that for himself, so naturally, I had to have it too. I was instantly hooked. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've had one of those. Years and years. Thanks for the memories!
Linda
I actually had strawberry Jello this morning for the first time in years. It used to make me so happy when I ate it @ Quincy's restaurant as a preschooler! :)
I don't think it excited me THAT much this time, but it did take me back a bit!
What did excite me was that I only paid 80-something cents for the whole 6-pack of Jello cups, thanks to www.southernsavers.com -- which, siestas, if you wanna save some serious grocery money, you should really check out! It's a lot like the grocery game, but it's free! :)
I just read through a bunch of the new comments and had two new ones come to mind (is a newbie even allowed to post multiple times? I guess I'll find out!)
1.) Edy's Maltball Fudge Ice Cream - they discontinued this flavor but its goodness was sheer insanity
2.) TCBY's Blueberry Cheescake Frozen Yogurt. I remember serving this at my 6th birthday party and hearing all my friends squeal in delight with how good it was!
Listen. You don't even want to know how much my man has spent on Circus Peanuts from Bass Pro Shops.
As for me, I could eat my body weight in chocolate Zingers if someone gave me the chance.
Great blog - love love that moment when you realize that what you're experiencing right then is a perfect opportunity to write something great. ^_^
so - favorite childhood treat (worth getting dramatic over!) has always been my Gramma's shortbread cookies!! the most perfect snack ever and no one made them like she did. The only ones anywhere close to being that good are the shortbread cookies from Panera.
LOVE you, Beth!!!!
Manda
This post makes me think of my dad and the Stuckey's Log Rolls that he had on every trip I ever went with him as a child. Can't find them anymore.
My childhood favorite is Chuckles. A Candy Where Even the Name Sounds Fun. They are little square jelly candies and just the best. I was allergic to chocolate growing up so this was the tops in my mind.
I just remembered one more...Sixlets. There was an older gentleman in our Baptist church who used to park at the curb and open his trunk before church and give all the kids Sixlets he had bought at the Candy warehouse supply place in town. I've forgotten his name...will have to ask my Mother...but we practically acted like those Sixlets were gold. I could make a tube of them (and these were the TINY tubes) last through an entire sermon! Just let them melt on your tongue. Is it sad to think that one of the reasons I might love Jesus and church so much is because I have repressed memories of melting sixlets? LOL
They make the Moon Pies here in my hometown. Loved going to my great-grandmothers and getting one. The orange flavor are the best.
So funny!! My favorite childhood foods...there are so many from growing up in the Ouachita mountains of Arkansas. Fried green tomatoes, Little Debbie Star Crunches, potato salad sandwiches (I realize that may sound weird but my mom made the best mustard potato salad and we always had leftovers after a church potluck), Reese's peanut butter cups and Dr. Pepper, school cinnamon rolls, and my momma's chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Also, as a college student in Arkadelphia, cokes with blue straws at the Daisy Queen. Why am I not 500 pounds?? Pure mercy!
Terri G-B
It's so sad to think that I know that those are Zingers.
Hanging my head in snack cake shame!
Astro Pops...the suckers that were red, yellow and green and had the little wax thing on the bottom. I think I will have to go surf the web to see if they are still around!
You just kill me! So funny girl....give me twinke and a diet coke...
Praying for your baby girl in India!
So hilarious! My husband is that way with Oatmeal Cream Pies.
ME... I love me a bit'o' honey.
So very funny! Just what I needed. I love (I mean LOVE) to laugh! Especially at silly things.
In junior high we had a grocery store directly across the street and I remember going over and getting Jolly rancher watermelon, and or cinnamon sticks. Loved them!
Too Funny!! I have a guy like that! Loves his sweets!
From childhood, does anyone remember Marathon candy bars? Braided chocolate and caramel, about 12 inches long in a red wrapper... Loved them!
Jen in Jax
Lemonheads I tell you, lemonheads.
Mallo Cups - hard to find; maybe Cracker Barrel has them.
Sugar Mama - Sugar Daddy with chocolate coating
Ice Cube - a German chocolate-tasting cube
Thanks for reminding me of Moon Pies. We just past our 40-Days, and my husband & I fasted from sweets. Just remembered . . . There's a Moon Pie still in the freezer.
Thanks for the laugh too!
wicked funny story!
pop rocks - love those little pops that it sends off in your mouth!:)
Moon Pies??? Sounds yummy....but here in Canada I don't think we have them (sigh). But we do have Pepsi Slurpee's.....hit's the spot!
That was so funny! I can absolutely picture the whole scene!
As a child, I used to love the small glass bottles of coke with peanuts poured into the bottle. You had to drink a little out before putting the peanuts in.
Then, as an older child/young adult, I loved Hoot 'N Toots and a coke. I haven't seen those in a long time, but they were like Ding Dongs or Hostess cakes - chocolate with white creme filling!
Yum!!! This post made me hungry!
Too many to list...
Ice cream sandwiches
cokes from the family grocery down the street
snickers at the pool after i swam
homemade oreo ice cream
and 501 more things. :)
Love you Miss Beth.
That is too funny! Peanut M&Ms! BTW, I love the new format! It really woke me up this am!
I am just about rolling on the floor I'm laughing so hard. My kids are looking at me as though I've lost my mind...okay, maybe they are not too far off! My childhood favorite was a 7-11 slush! Everyday after school, my Grandaddy would take me in to get a small one!
Suzie Q's and Snoballs are a must! They too are rare to find!
I'm thinking I could go for a moon pie myself right now, wonder if I could track one down in Minnesota!
Darn, I'm hungry now!
Too funny! BTW, the blog looks great!! My fav childhood treats are Nilla wafers and Fig Newtons. My mom always had Nilla wafers in the house, and so do I!! The bad part if that I have introduced both to my husband and I am sorry I did! When we were in college my grandparents would send me a care package and it never failed that Grandpa sent me Fig Newtons. My husband and I would fight to open the box since we knew what was sent! :)
Poor Keith, thats exactly how I feel when someone at the last one of something I was looking forward to.
Favorited childhood treat would be the orange pushups. My gram would always stock them in the freezer. My husbands's fav childhood treat is "baseball nut" ice cream from Baskin Robbins.
If you have a Cracker Barrel restaurant in the area, they sell Moon Pies by the box!!!
Snicker bar and a Sprite...
I havent had that snack in years...maybe that is what I have been missing!!!!!
Ding Dongs that I think became King Dongs. But now I see that they are Ding Dongs again. When we moved to Congo as missionaries when I was ten, I used to DREAM that I was in a store with nothing on else the shelves but those round chocolate cake, cream-filled, chocolate-coated delights. I.KID.YOU.NOT!!!
I love you, Mama Beth! Thanks for being so fun and inspiring us to find out that God's Word is the biggest blast on earth!
LOLOLOLOLOL! What can really be said after such an event?
It might be time to place an order at amazon.com for them to come to your house in bulk! (hehe)
Why do I know this? Because I've done it. For my sister and her 6th grade class, but there WERE 48 moonpies speeding their way to my house.
LOLOLOLOLOL! What can really be said after such an event?
I miss the Nabisco butter cookies. The ones in the green foil box. The ones with the holes in the middle. Mothers makes some, but they're not the same. I haven't seen the Nabisco ones in years.
Ice cold Pepsi in a glass bottle - the thought of it makes me salivate! My man and I talk about it all the time and how after you pop the cap there was this "steam-like" vapor that would come out the top. Ohhhhhh.
Still have a great love for a Yoo-Hoo. Can still find them sometimes.
Will they ever bring back the 'good ole' pop in a glass bottle?
Thanks for the memories and the laughs.
Kim
TOOOOO FUNNY!!!
We like the Hostess Fried Pies... Like Moon Pies, these are also hard to find. Little Debbie has come out with some similar ones, but they aren't near as good as the Hostess....
Funniest post...and it makes me suddenly want a Moon Pie. Haven't had one of those since I was a kid :-)
By the way--the new blog looks BEAUTIFUL!
Beth-
Do you have a Cracker Barrel restaurant? You can buy whole boxes of Moon Pies there!!! :)
p.s. Love your new website!
I have to agree with my fellow Canadian poster and say slurpees. So good! No matter the weather . . . in college we would go get them in the middle of winter when it was freezing cold. The best!
Can you believe I've NEVER had a moon pie??!! I've heard of them and all but it must be more of a southern thing. I'm going to have to break down and try one!
Ding Dongs are mine....Ding Dongs, not King Dons or whatever they changed them to!
Thanks for the smiles today!
Kelli
I love...LOVE... LOVE... Moon Pies. Banana, is my MOON flavor of choice. I used to get one anytime we went on long rode trips... I loved it. Short road trips were candy bars or those awful candy cigarettes (my daddy smoked... I thought it was cool!)
But, I guess my absolute favorite treat from childhood is my daddy's favorite ice cream (mine, too) the ever elusive and hard to find "Banana Nut" flavor of Blue Bell Ice Cream. It runs a close second to the standing family fave dessert Momma's homemade Banana Pudding.
My nephew actually asked for this treat for my neice's birthday this year. Some of us are known to get our bowl before dinner because waiting too long means, yes, that is right - IT IS GONE!
Love the post, glad that there are still moon pies at Bass Pro Shop (Oh, and they sell them at Cabela's, too... I saw them there just the other day), now I'm off in search of my very own!
Love you guys! LOL!
Still laughing out loud.....!!! Sure needed that one today!
Too many snack items still my name from my childhood.
Every day in High School, after tennis and before i went to the tanning bed (prom time)- it was time for a Dr. Pepper and a milky way.
Oh, the high school metabolism.
I miss it.
I miss my grandmother's angel food cake (from scratch, mind you)split with lemon filling and iced with a lemon icing. She made it every year for my birthday, the last one a year before she died...I was 44!! My other grandmother made a really "mean" lemon meringue pie, which I also miss. Can you tell I am an "anything" lemon lover?
That was so random- I loved it!
I used to love the Kap'n Krutch ice cream bars. Never could decide which I liked best- the chocolate or the raspberry.
Thank you for the wonderful laugh! I feel for Keith, though. :)
Growing up in NJ, there was a special chocolate shop that was dear to my heart. Now that I'm old and have moved away, my grandmother still sends me chocolate from the shop on holidays. My husband knows better than to get within 10 feet of my chocolate. :)
-Lacey
Ha Ha! Great post! We have a snack box in our break room where all proceeds go towards Relay for Life. The lady in charge of it recently put some moon pies in there. My cohort was beyond excited! He even called his wife to tell her there were moon pies in our snack box!!!
chick o sticks would have to be mine. I can smell the neighborhood pool when I see one b/c that's where we used to eat them!
Lemonheads and anything sour
Oreo cookies dipped in cold milk or with chocolate ice cream (low fat of course-ha). If it is salty craving from back in the day, Cheez-its dipped in cream cheese.
Who am I kidding? That last one, I could totally still eat every day:)
This is a tough one... but perhaps the red,wax lips and devil dogs....yummy, but hate the name.
Roseanna from Bloomington,Indiana, who grew up in Newark, New Jersey.
Hilarious!!!
I long for a Turtle Sundae from Mr. Freeze...which is still in Perrysburg, Ohio, but I am not!
Not to incite jealousy or anything...but I actually live in the HOMETOWN of both Moon Pies AND Little Debbies! And, yes, my favorite treat from childhood would be Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls--eaten just so--but Oreos are a close second.
On a side note...have Keith check out http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7970059
for a lesson on how to keep sons-in-law in line!
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!
my grandmother's peanut butter fudge (from the Fannie Farmer cookbook) and her mac and cheese.
Let Keith know he can come to NC we have moonpies available at all stores at least in the part of NC i live in.
Misty and Jeanie, I'm so with y'all on the Astropops and the Sixlets!
so funny... I am actually very partial to moon pies myself - banana. no other flavor will do.
Beth
Blue Moon Ice Cream!!!!!!!!!
Oh I and I think you can also get Moon Pies at Cracker Barrel.
You are too hysterical Beth! Poor man. He was obviously traumatized.
I simply cannot imagine how you are able to occasionally eat a moon pie and yet have the figure of a twentyone year old.
It's not just Moon pies, if I remember correctly from your NYC trip, you also eat lots of other really yummy things that would make most others, um, gain weight!
It's ok Beth, there is no one else I would rather be jealous of than you!
I think the thing I drool over the thought of is a Krispy Kreme glazed donut! About once or twice a year I indulge but they too are getting harder and harder to find in the north country.
Love the new look.
3 Oreos and a cold glass of milk!!
Yum!!
Smiling just thinking about it,
Penny
I am going to hve to go with MOON PIES too. Although I think you can get them at a lot of gas stations too if you want to check some!!!
Beth, I can't believe after the fuss he made over those things that you didn't write out a written agreement for Amanda to sign stating that she'd bring them back the next day. :)
On a totally different subject, I probably don't even need to ask this, but do you have Mandisa's latest album yet? From one beat lovin, dance lovin, soul sister to another, it's a must have! And the lyrics are incredible for anyone who's ever been set free! Glory to God, I can now say that includes me!!
