Keepsakes
When I was a little girl, I used to love looking through my Raggedy Ann baby book. My mom had recorded every last detail of my infancy and early childhood in its pages. My favorite thing about the book was a small pouch inside where she had tucked away little keepsakes like our hospital bracelets.
Both of my kids have keepsake boxes where I've stored all kinds of little things. By the time Annabeth was 6 weeks old, hers was already almost full!
There are a few things that won't fit in the boxes that I'm safeguarding for them. For instance, here's a letter from President George W. Bush that welcomed Jackson to the world shortly after his birth.

And Annabeth just received this autographed book by former First Lady Laura Bush and her daughter Jenna.
I have a close friend who worked for President Bush during his administration, which is how both of these gifts came about. (I think these are really special keepsakes that my children will one day enjoy having, but I need to emphasize that I'm not trying to make a political statement by sharing these pictures.)
A couple of Christmases ago, Mom gave me a big box of my baby clothes that she had saved for me. I've had so much fun going through them!
I love this itty bitty t-shirt.
Annabeth wasn't even a twinkle in our eyes when Mom gave me all these clothes. It never occurred to me that I would play dress up with my own daughter in these clothes one day. Mark it down - April 16, 2009 was the day!
Here's my sweetie in a tiny pink dress that my grandmother bought me almost - gulp - 30 years ago. Isn't she sweet?

your sweet lil thing is precious!! i saved some special pieces of clothing, from my children, and so far one of them has dressed up every stuffed animal she could find, the other..well its just not Hollister..

My mom saved my baby ring and many clothes like your mom. One of the dresses is much like the one Annabeth is wearing that was yours. What is neat, a lady gave my daughter one almost just like it (she had no idea about mine) so my daughter wore hers and mine. I have pictures of her in many of my hand-me-downs. She is 21 now and I have saved some of her things but didn't do as good a job as my mom did.

I think the dress is adorable!
The only things we have from our childhood are a stuffed bear (mine) and a stuffed lion (my husband's). I wish I had more, but with all the moving and downsizing that has happened in our family in the last 10 years... some things had to be let go.
If nothing else, my daughter will have my blog to commemorate her childhood. And maybe a few outfits if I can overcome my urges to declutter. :)
My oldest weighed in at 2 pounds. This was 20 years ago. I had to buy doll clothes because they didn't have many preemie clothes at the time. So...I made his clothes! They were so tiny. I did a lot of sewing while he was at Children's Hospital. His box is full of lots of handmade TINY Hawaiin shirts. I guess I thought I would take him to a luau? What can I say? The fabric was beautiful. It blows everyone's mind now. A six foot twenty year old who wore Cabbage Patch doll clothes and luau shirts!
Tell Bethie to put some hairspray in her purse--she's gonna need it :)

I have a keepsake box for my 3 year old son and so far I've kept a few finger painting he's done at MDO along with a pacifier (which was his lovey for the first 2 years), a pair of shorts that he wore that were also my husband's (so they're 34 years old!) along with his coming home outfit. Of course his baby book has our hospital bracelets, the first lock of hair, the "glasses" he wore while under the lights for jaundice, etc.
My mom saved several important toys and dolls from when I was a baby/child, a baby blanket, and the dress I was baptized in when I was 6. My baby book has the usual things in it as well.
I love the letter and book that you have saved for your kids!

I read a story years ago about a life time missionary who was on his death bed with his children surrounding him. His words to them were "I don't have anything to give you because I gave it all to Jesus a long time ago." That brought tears to my eyes then as it does now.
I don't have much in material things to give my children. But I pass Jesus on to them.
Oh good grief, that little girl is cute! We got special cards from President George W. Bush for our little guys too, but they were probably just the kind they send out to everyone who sends the White House the birth announcements of their children!! I love it! Blessings...

I had a great idea years ago for saving our kids precious clothing. I keep all their special outfits in a large bin, and I plan on presenting them with a quilt made from them when they graduate!
I will be praying! Also, my mom kept some baby clothes of mine and I used to love to dress my cabbage patch dolls in them...I was also a dancer/gymnast and she kept some of my old leotards and costumes from that packed away...I hope to one day dress my little ones in them! I am going to work at a children's home in Romania so maybe there will be some budding gymnast there that will want them!

I have my dad's bible, who passed away almost 10 yrs ago. He had massive notes marked all over and charts he had done up. In fact, I have a file cabnet full of of his studies. I refer to them alot and they mean so much. He had saved all his notes from bible college impecible organized into books that I have used to get my own education. It's priceless.
Don't you dare, gulp 30 years old; I just turned 30 on the 4th and I am stoked. I think Annabeth loves her dress, with her little smirk.

My mom pretty much saved most of my baby clothes and shoes, along with my doll collection of dolls from around the world (My fav, two from czechoslovakia, I thought I was pretty special b/c I could pronounce czechoslovakia).
But what I am saving is a onsie I tye-dyed for a baby shower gift and after packing up the different colored onesies, I noticed there was one left over in the prettiest pink and I said, "that's for my girl!"
Thanks for sharing about the gifts, I think it was wonderfully generous and kind of the former President and First Lady to give a gift at all. I don't want to know that my president is perfect, I just want to know that he does the best he can.

We have "married boxes" in our home...boxes they will get after their wedding. They are filled with pictures, various school projects, the shoes my daughter won her first race in, and the outfit our 18-month old boy was wearing when he became our son.
What we talk about most, however, are the Christmas ornaments. Each year each child gets an ornament to represent the year and the date is written on it. Each child knows their first Christmas tree after marriage will be filled with an ornament from each year of their life (barring theft or fire). We talk about it every year as we decorate the tree.
(If marriage doesn't occur for an older child, of course they can receive their box at another special time :))

Hey Amanda,
I have a piece of advice. My mom had kept all of my stuff as well, and I cherished every bit of it. However, my parents house burned down and it's all gone so put it in a fire proof box. Seriously, you think it won't happen to you but I wish my mom would have put my stuff in a fireproof box.

When my Dad was diagnosed with cancer my Mom and he each filled out books that asked questions about their life. My Dad was 60 years older than I and so much of his life happened before I arrived on the scene. So, this book helped fill me in on things I never knew and that he didn't have a chance to tell me before he passed away. If you can, you should all do this for your kids! It will mean A LOT!
Aww, my mom just gave me a pair of my baby shoes that I once wore. Luckily they're brown leather so I can put them on my 6 month old son and he won't look too "girly"!
I have a plastic container stored away in the basement with blankets from my children and some from even when I was a baby (more than 40 years) ago. I love the smell and feel of baby blankets!! We also have the little Gerber baby spoons that we have passed down from me, to my children and then someday to my grandchildren. And a whole box of other little shirts.

Praying for Momma Beth's journey. I have my ballet shoes from a recital when I was 6 years old.I tinkled all over my tutu on stage and the whole family still laughs about it. For my 15 month old son, I have his Mickey Mouse "First Haircut" mouse ears from the Harmony Barber Shop at Magic Kingdom...so fun!

Each of our two kids has a box of keepsakes, probably the typical stuff. But there is one neat thing we did for our son. We have a very large black and white photo (11"x14" or larger) of my husband, taken when he was about 4 months old. My mother-in-law had saved that particular outfit, and so when our son, James, was about 4 months old, we dressed him in the outfit, propped him up in the recliner next to the black and white photo of dad, and took another photo. It's really neat to see them side by side, at the same age, in the same outfit!
And yes, I will be praying big time for the LPL event in Portland!

I have all sorts of keepsakes tucked away for my four kids, and have some that will be tucked away when they are done being used. Star wars toys galore. (they are still being used) Rescue Heros, Dolls,and Barbies,and one of my faves, my oldest daughters Fisher Price little people house. And yes clothes that I could not part with, they were so cute in those.
My mother has kept all my dolls, (from the 60's-70's) they are in excellent condition, and my girls each have one of them. I never liked my dolls messed up.

My mother saved our pictures in a Raggedy Ann scrapbook, too! I still enjoy looking at those pictures. She also got a baby shoe silvered that belonged to each of her 3 children and displayed these on a marble-top table in her living room! I have 2 wonderful sons, 28 and 22. I kept detailed baby books for my sons, too. I wanted them both to match, and the boys were born 6 years apart. A very special friend found the one for my second baby, and I will never forget it. In addition to the baby books, tons of photos, cards, Bible school crafts, special articles of clothing, and artwork, some very special keepsakes have been the journals that my sons each wrote and continued to write when they entered kindergarten. You have that treasure to look forward to!
I am praying for safe travel for your mother and another glorious event. I was in New Orleans April 3-4 and am still so full from having been there.

This is going to sound like a church answer, but it's the only answer I have. I am saving all the Bibles my mom and dad have used over the years. They are filled with notes taken from sermons and Bible studies. I have four children, and they are each getting one when it's time.

It's funny you have books as keepsakes. My family loves to read and loves books. My oldest son recently said that his favorite smells were fresh paper and fresh coffee - together! Needless to say, we're bookstore groupies.
Over the past few years, my sister and I have attended the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. We now take one of our children each time we go (a special treat when it is your turn!) We get there bright and early to meet children's book authors and obtain their autographs. We also go to regional book festivals that often bring up-and-coming authors. My children will inherit a wonderful collection of autographed copies of children's books. The books currently sit on a special shelf which holds our signed books. This has been a fun thing to collect for my boys.

Since 1996 I have been making scrapooks for my 2 granddaughters to keep. Yep, they will have quite a library of pics. I took my daughter's first dress (she is 34) and put it in a shadow book. Annabeth is such a doll!
You asked what keepsakes I am keeping for my kids... Well that is hard to answer because all 5 of my kids are adopted, the youngest being adopted at the age of three. But I really wanted to share something that my husband did recently. Our oldest was 7 when we adopted her and her sister four years ago from and orphange in Ukraine. She asked that this Sunday she be baptised at church. So my husband made this beautiful music video for her that commerates where she came from and that God was with her from the very beginning. She was really touched by that! And I humbled that God choose me to be her mother.
what a fun post and annabeth is adorable in that little dress! i love her smile! my 10 month old son has two little teddy bears and a little frog contraption which were his dad's. i hope my parents can scrounge up some of my girly things if we're blessed with a girl in the future. i love that "manda" shirt! i had a little tshirt with my name on it when i was teeny tiny too.
Praying for the whole event. I want to give my girl my favorite bible, all her pretty little dresses, a lock of hair from her first cut, and so far I have saved all of her artwork. I am ridiculous.
My Mom saved my baby ring for me and a piece of my hair. I've given each of my kids at their high school graduation a Bible that I used. I've kept a few of their toys for them to pass on to their kids--especially ones that were handmade in the Philippines.

I'm a maniac about saving things for my boys. I've saved every outfit I ever smocked or sewed for them, their coming home outfits, and I filled a box with little things from their first year--a bib or two we loved, a pacifier, a cloth diaper that was monogrammed (actually many of those), a onesie, socks, soft toys they loved, monogrammed blanket or two etc. They get a kick of out of it.
Today I save every single paper that comes home from school (crazy, huh). In my walk-out attic storage I have a card table with a paper box and on the end of the box I write "Name, 3rd Grade" then just as stuff comes home I put it in the box. Try to make one year fit in a box--even Bible school papers. We have many boxes now and my husband thinks I'm silly but I love their coloring pages, handwriting, art, etc.
Keep it all siesta because one day you'll be so glad you did! ;-) Jill

Every night (practically) I read The Little Engine That Could to my son -- for over a year! It was his favorite. I have that book tucked into his keepsake box.

She is just precious. I'm blessed with 2 boys (8 and 1). My mom kept all my clothes as well, but sadly they will not be used again. However, my great aunt made a beautiful quilt/blanket that is mint green on one side and tiny blue flowers on the other. I have used it with both boys. It means so much. AND, my first son was a tiny little preemie, so we kept his first preemie clothes and he puts them on his bears. Love those, too.
I kept my son's first toy (from Grandma) and the first pair of pyjama's I bought him (a size 000). I am also keeping the hospital bracelet and a few favourite clothes including his first jeans (size 0000) and the two outfits we had to go out and buy when he was born (size 00000). Despite being 8 pounds, he idn't fit into the 0000 so we had to get him 2 premmie outfits. He will be 4 soon, and my only child due to medical reasons.
How special! I know I'm only 20 and don't even have a boyfriend, but sometimes I think about my kids. My mom has saved some of my special clothes from when I was a baby as well as some blankets or special toys. I've saved my very favorite children's books. Some of them are books my mom saved for ME before she even knew who I was! I love traditions and passing things down.
I don't know if I'd call it a keepsake, but there's an absolutely hilarious family portrait from when I was still a newborn. It was quite unintentional, of course, but we were a dead ringer the Addams family. My sister had that long straight hair that made her look like Wednesday, my brother could have passed for Pugsly (he and my sister were about the right ages too), and Dad had white hair and a crew cut that suggested Uncle Fester. In the foreground was mother with dark circles under her eyes and an obviously squawling infant who would be Yours Truly.
I know this sounds like I'm exaggerating, but you should seriously see this picture. We pull it out every few years or so to laugh at it and console ourselves that surely we could never look that awful again!
i have a blanket that a friend made for me (sorry i have to say this) knowing that my son would be stillborn and i was able to pass it on to my little sister's newborn son at her shower.

I've been looking forward to this since I first found out you were coming!!! WOO HOO! I'll be there with bells on with my 5 week old baby. We've had a serious talk and he understands that if he ever wants a chance with Annabeth he has to stay quiet!

My little girl is almost two and I don't have a ton of stuff saved yet. I have been writing her letters (the day she was born, at 6 months, her first b-day, ect.) that I'm saving for her. I also have her going home outfit and her hospital bracelet. I need to read through these comments to get some other ideas!
we have a 10 month old little girl and all the letters that my husband and i write to each other {and some we've written to her }are being saved for her. so that she knows that kind of love we had for each other and for her too. not saying we are perfect, but we know and count on the perfect One to rule our hearts and home.
i've also saved some of her outfits, jewelry, etc. but those things not too too important when trying to raise a proverbs 31 woman ;)
Each of my children has a box of special things- art projects, clothes, etc. And a folder in my desk that hold school work, awards and other paper type things. This afternoon my older two children were being somewhat snooty about an animal book their younger brother (6 y/o) was making. I whipped out the little books they had made at that same age. Instant end of the I'm-smarter-than-you-are attitude. :) We spent the next hour reading all their writings and guessing at what on earth the letters were supposed to spell!
Amanda- I forgot to say how adorable Annabeth looks in your baby dress! She exudes so much personality and has such a charming smile already! Her brother Jackson looks every bit the charmer, too! And they certainly have a darling Mama!

50 years ago new moms stayed in the hospital a lot longer than moms do now. My parents were expecting a boy when I surprised them by being a girl. They were so sure they were having a boy they didn't have a single girl's name picked out. I was 5 days old and the hospital informed my parents that we could not be discharged until they came up with a name. They saved the "baby ID bracelet" for me - it says "girl." How sad is that? Ha! But I do love my name. :-)

And I have absolutely nothing from when I was a child. I don't know why, but mom didn't save a thing. We however have a house that is being overtaken by all the clothes, priceless "art" treasures, report cards, blankies, stuffed animals and on and on that I have saved for my girls, now 11 and 20 years old.

My mother passed on 13 years ago due to all the coomplications with diabetes and heart problems. She had beautiful handwriting until her nerve endings in her fingers got so bad. So I write everything down my children do and letters to them and things they say and how they say them because I wish I had more things my mother wrote on in her handwriting. Oh another thing is i take my daughters picture every year in my wedding gown and my sons picture in one of his dad's favorite shirts (until they grown into them)
Precious and praying. I have two legacy Bibles that I am making records of things in for my daughters. But, for them I believe the treasures will be things like my journals and Bibles (I have nearly 40) All of them marked up and versed out, noted and prayed over. They mark out the journey of my life with God (and perhaps my multiple personality disorder LOL) but truthfully - I pray that all of those things is very special to them. I have a box in the garage of their school work and I have a trunk that I am filling with their brother's things so that they will have them when they have children. Those items tell the story of his life and they will be able to share about their brother based on what those keepsakes hold.
I love the way God gives us memories to hold onto. I also have a small box of keepsakes from my wedding to Scott. I hope they will enjoy them. For Scott's children I found a variety of items from his relationship with their mother over the years in boxes we have had from that time of his life. I have them packed away to give his children as they go off as adults in this world.

Amanda, I too have saved EVERYTHING for my children. At one point I was overboard... my husband was looking through our first child's book and found what he thought to be a raisin. He taunted me for not taking good care of the baby book and for eating while assembling special memories...
He was SHOCKED to find that I hadn't been careless at all... it was our firstborn's UMBILICAL CORD!
All that to say- we've since thrown it away... (Along with the positive pregnancy test pee stick...)

Ooh... and I almost forgot... just 6 monhts ago my mom sent me (I'm 33 years old) a small unlabeled box. I opened it... (unknowingly) to find 9 of my teeth. Apparently the "tooth fairy" not only kept them over the years... but RETURNED THEM!

When I was 3 months pregnant for my birthday my mom gave me a beautiful dress (similar to yours). My grandmother made it for my mom to wear in 1941. Mom wore it, I wore it and my precious daughter Sydney wore it. It was such a thrill to have a keepsake like that. Mom also gave me a beautiful blanket that my paternal grandmother made for me when I was born. Such treasures...Susan
Annabeth is so cute! My son's name is Rocco Giovanni Boggio (a little Italian don't you think?). Or think The Godfather and the St. Rocco's Day festival. My husband grew up in the Catholic Church and while we are not raising our children Catholic, Rocco's keepsake is a St. Rocco medal that was blessed by the Pope when my sister-in-law's sister-in-law visited Italy a few years back with her nun order. Forgive me if I have not addressed that correctly. My daughter Amy is named after a woman who has been a grandmother to me my whole life although we are not blood related. Any picture I can get of them together is a treasure to me and I am sure there will be something of Nana's that Amy will acquire someday that she will get to keep as a reminder. Nana will be 90 this summer and Amy will be 5. I praise God that both of my children get to have a relationship with Nana and I know they bring her such joy.

I save everything. My mom did the same for me. I have my baby clothes, books, dolls, Barbies etc... all from my childhood. I know I'll save special books, clothing items, blankets and dolls for them too.

My mom saved a dress of mine and I had my oldest daughter's picture taken in it and now the youngest will get her turn. I've saved a few cards, blankets knit for them from a great grandmother, and a few special pieces of clothing. I also keep a few pieces of art from each year. I do keep up with their baby books; I ordered the same one for all 3 so I could anticipate what I'd need to fill out or photograph!
I saved a few clothes from my son's baby days, and I recently bought a scrapbook for his school days. I would also like to start a journal for him about my life so that when he gets older he can read it and know all about me. I think that is pretty important because I don't know much about my parents at all.
In a box stuck away on a high shelf in a closet at the "old homeplace" we found a hand-made gown and a shirt that apparently were my hubby's.....70+ years ago.
I have saved my two sons' favorite blankets and their 1st pairs of shoes. My sons are now 38 and 34 years old. They know I have these items but they also know these things mean more to me than to them. Afterall, I actually remember the blankets and shoes...they don't. And OH how I love to close my eyes and breathe deep into the blankets ... imagining I can actually smell those sweet babies!!! Ahhh...memories!!! Brings tears just thinking about my babies!!!!
So sweet, little baby Annabeth! My grandmother had crocheted a baby blanket for my mom when my sister, brother and I came home from the hospital. We all carried our babies home wrapped in that same blanket when they were born.
That is a surreal moment when you dress them in your baby clothes. Babies grow up so fast!

KEEPSAKES I'm saving... The cutest little disney sweatshirts we bought for the kids at Disney World with Mickey Mouse embroidered on them... also little Levi denim jackets each child has worn. Tons of scrapbooks by theme for each child... ALSO I have to say, Annabeth is just so precious; such a beautiful smile!
PORTLAND Living Proof Live... BETH and the whole conference are in my prayers!!! My sister, Traci, is a new believer and will be attending this event; her first Conference! I Praise God in advance for safe travels for Beth & the team and the many women He will speak to through Beth!
One of my favorite treasures was a baby dress, that my grandmother sewed for my mother, using fabric from her wedding dress. My mom wore it as a baby and then gave it to me when I had daughters. I've saved my favorite outfits that my daughters have worn and they each have an ongoing scrapbook. They love looking at their scrapbooks now! Oh, the other really special item each of my girls have, is a crib quilt made by my grandmother (their great-grandma).
Here's a tip for saving artwork that your kids create... hang a grouping on the wall or spread it out on the floor; then take a picture of it and put the picture in a scrapbook. Takes up ALOT less space!

I'm hoping to share my favorite books with my kids. There were several books my mom read to me with great expression and voices that I want to read to my own kids the same way someday! As an 8 or 9 year old, I LOVED the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I don't know how many times I read them! I would love to pass those on to my little girl someday (not sure how much a little boy might like them). The thing is, all those books are in the attic at my parents' home somewhere. And I'm not sure where! I hope they hold up.:)
How adorable! I am also saving some dresses, but the main things are books! I have some books from my childhood and reading them to my children now are so much fun because I REMEMBER so well reading them myself when I was little! I love books, so we have a lot of great ones and I am hoping they will be a blessing to my children(now 4,6 and 8) down the road.

It IS fun going through all those baby things! Annabeth is adorable in your dress. I have some dresses that my mom saved from my babyhood, and I also have a couple of stuffed animals,too. I saved my girls' favorite blankies.(they now have them on their beds) I also saved the Raggedy Ann dolls that my mom made for them. Another thing they look forward to is a new Christmas ornament every year. That way when they move out on their own someday, they will have a tree of memories of past Christmases.

Your post reminded me of when I played dress up with my now 9 year old when she was only a few months old. I had a few things my mom had saved for me, including a precious pink dress that I had my picture made in. I have a double 5x7 frame that I have the picture of me and a picture of my daughter in the same dress....it is so sweet!

I kept the light blue daygown that my son went home from the hospital in 26 years ago. His son went home from the hospital TODAY wearing the same gown. Memories have come flooding back! Enjoy your babies!
I had my boys within 14 months of each other so needless to say, my youngest wore hand-me downs. By the time he went through them, there was not much left to keep for future generations. LOL! He's 29, married, and still hard on clothes! But I did save my boys' cub scout uniforms and a few pocket cars. I also saved their baby shoes and the blanket they both came home in from the hospital.
I see so much of you, Amanda, in Annabeth's face. She's just darlin'! (Put a southeast Texas accent in that last word.)
What precious pictures and keepsakes. My mom kept a baby book, similar to what your mom did for you. Mom died 14 years ago when I was 20 years old and there are so many questions I have for her that my dad can't remember the answers to. At any rate, I host a family blog and update it almost daily with pictures and funny things the kids say. I then print off the blog posts and save them for the kids. Also, I've saved clothing and crafts they've made. Here's the most time consuming keepsake but definitely worth the effort. At the end of every year I create a family video with pictures, audio, and video then burn it on a DVD. It makes a great Christmas gift for loved ones and also is an awesome keepsake for the kids.
She's every bit as adorable in that dress as I'm sure you must have been! Priceless!
My children have blankets that I made for them. Jessica (the oldest) has a crocheted afghan. Jasmine (middle child) has a quilt that I sewed by hand for her. Noah (youngest) has a half completed needlepoint of Noah's Ark. It will never be complete, I fear. Needlepoint is so NOT my thing!
for my daughter I saved a small bonnet that a friend made for her out of a beautiful lace hankerchef. when she gets married, I will snip the stiches that hold it together and she can use it as her something old.
for my son I kept his cute little overalls he loved to wear! Also, I kept his breathing mask from the hospital. that's to remind me that he was so sick and the Lord brought him through!

My daughter and I both came home from the hospital in the same dress. I am saving it for her daughter too.
I have some of my baby clothes that my mom saved for me. One dress in particular is a little gingham sundress, with pink and blue and green and yellow in it. and don't you know, it perfectly matches my daughter's PB quilt on her bed! so it hangs over her bed on the wall on a cute little hanger. LOVE IT.
I saved the "Baby Jesus" for my daughter that I was given as a three year old. The church we attended had a Christmas Eve service and I was captivated by the doll that played Baby Jesus. Afterwards I went right up to the front of the auditorium and asked the little 12 year old girl whose doll it was, if I could have it. And she said yes (there's nothing quite like a precocious three year old).
Now that beloved doll sits in my precious nine year old's bedroom. (I just went and checked the date on the back of it's head - 1961).

I just found out about the LPM blog and enjoy reading it so much! We have something in common. I have a 3 year old little boy, a 10 week old little girl named Annalyn and an 11 yr old daughter. I play dress up with my new baby in my oldest daughter's clothes and a few of mine. One of the first verses my son learned was the same as Jackson's - Children obey your parents for this is right - just wish he would do it! Enjoy your new baby...she'll be 11 going on 18 before you know it!
When my kids were baptized, I gave a card to each of our close friends to write a note and prayer to my child about following their God. I'll give them those cards when they leave home to marry.
I took one year for each of my children and wrote in a one-year dated bible what God did that year for that child. I have those one-year bibles for each to give them some day soon.
That pink dress is so prim and proper. And properly girly. And I love her pose in that first picture--so ladylike!

I am saving my 25 yr old son's baby sized red, white and black Air Jordan hightops from 1987, and my 22 yr old daughter's first pair of church shoes which are white leather Stride Rite sandals...both pairs are soooo cute!
Of course I have a few boxes full of other things I am saving...but these are among my favorites!
My mom saved some of my dresses, and my daughter has worn them. It has been so fun! And now she asks if we can save some of her dresses for her daughter. (I hope she has a daughter too!)
My mother has a framed picture of me at 2 months in a red dress.... she saved that dress and gave it to me when I had my baby girl. With out her knowing, I went to 4 different picture studio's with my 2 month old baby in the same dress to try and recreate the pic! Finding the old type "blue" background was tough-but wouldn't you know it? Walmart does have everything! :)
I then framed my old baby photo with the new photo of my babe and added a picture of my daughter and I together in the middle of the two. Mom got it for her birthday and it was a tear jerker for sure! I definitely won for the 'favorite present" that year! My baby and I look identical in our photo's - to the point we have to point out who is who to visitor's.... I love to look at it as much as my momma does!
The box of your own baby clothes is a treasure, isn't it? My mom did the same thing for me. At the baby shower when I was pregnant with my first, my mom gave me a trunk of clothes from when I was a baby and a little girl. (I'm also almost 30, so I imagine the clothes in my trunk are similar to the clothes in your box!) My daughter is almost 7 now. This was the first Easter since she was born that she did not wear one of my Easter dresses. As I recall the Easter I was 7 (my daughter is a year ahead of where I was in height), I dumped a bowl of cranberry sauce on my dress. The stain never did come out. Anyways, yes, those clothes are so special. As Annabeth gets older, she'll start appreciating what a treat it is to wear Mommy's clothes from when Mommy was little. I am following this tradition by carefully storing away favorite outfits for both my kids. They are sealed in plastic bags, in airtight plastic tubs. Each outfit has a little note with it so my kids will know the significance of each outfit.
I saved pieces of clothing for all my sons, as well as the blankets that were so lovingly knitted or crocheted for them. Also, I am making a book of photos and quotes that I wrote down on the calendar pages that chronicle our lives. My just turned 25 year old said when he was a day from turning 3: "I am going to stand right here and make sure you don't put anything icky in the frosting!" (I'm not sure what he thought I might put in, but he still loves to work side by side with me in the kitchen when he comes home at Christmas!)

I have the cradle that was used for me and then we used it for our daughter. I also have many books from when I was younger as well as books that included the 45 record that told the story (good thing we can buy turntables). I also have my Mickey Mouse record player and telephone my parents bought me when I was five. Now that my daughter is 15 we have packed them all away along with some of her things that one day we can hopefully pull out for our grandchildren.

My mother saved about 8 of my dresses and it has been fun to get my daughters pictures made wearing them. I then framed them for my mom next to my photo. Both of my girls also were dedicated at church wearing the same dress that I wore when I was christened. I am sentimental so I am sure I will save way too much just like my mom did.

I think my two favorite gifts that were passed on to me and I'm looking forward to passing on to my kids (when I have some)are the doll cradle my grandpa made for my mom and all of her children's books. When I was nine my grandma gave me boxes and boxes of my mom's books including some that my great-grandmother owned as a child!

Loved all those sweet little clothes!! What a precious moment to see her in one of your little dresses! It looks so much like the Feltman Bros. dresses that my mother bought for my Lauren (now 27). Brings back many special memories. Her grandmother MeMe( my mom who went to heaven early when Lauren was just 7)kept her dressed "in pink" at Annabeth's age! Of course I have also saved her baby clothes in the same kind of clear box. I am ready to hand these over to her very soon.

My mother didn't save anything from my childhood but my mother-in-law saved LOTS of things from my husband's childhood. In fact, at Easter I just displayed a little ceramic bunny that my husband made in 2nd grade! So I wanted to make sure my children had things from their childhood like my husband.
My children are all grown and married with children of their own. Two of my granddaughters have worn many dresses that I smocked 30 years ago for my daughter. My granddaughters even came home from the hospital in the same dress that my daughter came home in that MY grandmother had made for my daughter. Also, one of my granddaughters even sleeps in my daughter's (her mommy)iron bed that we bought her at an antique store when she got to big for her crib. My son and daughter-in-law have decorated their son's bedroom with baseball gloves, bats, and old trophys that were my son's when he was young.
I love it when special momentos get passed down to the next generation. That is part of a great legacy but also gives their chidren a amall glimpse of their parents as children.
I think it is so special that your mom saved all your baby dresses! You are blessed!

Most of my "rememberance" stuff was given to me when I graduated from high school. It was destroyed in a house fire. There were a few things that I guess my sister got like our old Barbies-boy does that bring back memories. She has been sending me little things like pics from when we went to Disneyland and other events. They are far and few between. I have a white dress and an a picture of me in it when I was 6 months old.
For my oldest daughter, she gets my 21 years worth of journnals. They are full of how the Lord has answered prayer. It is filled with times of frustration and times of complete and utter Awe at how the Lord works in my life. I began them in 1987-the year she was born.
For My youngest daughter I have a box filled with her drawings from when she was little and of course, her school work.
It doesn't seem like a lot, but it's something. I have a few outfits that I kept for both of them. I tried not to use the stuff I kept for my oldest one on my youngest one. I also, got my oldest a "real" ring when she turned 13. My youngest will get the same. Anywhoo...that's the stuff I have for my kids.

Amanda. My mom wasn't the best at keeping keepsakes but she did keep 1 small knitted baby outfit (I was prem and 3lb) which I love as I was so small! Also we have a few pictures. I have tried to be slightly better. I have kept the newspaper from the day my 2 girls were born and a CD of the number one single. I have their hospital bracelets and a few clothes. I have the first card my daughter wrote her name in and the first kindergarten handmade easter card (where we are now). I also have her first (and only- blue ISN'T her colour!)soccer top for our local team. oh and I have their first shoes (are childrens shoes as expensive in the US??? Shoes here for infants are $40!) Every year I have turned the best photos into a photo book that hopefully my girls will enjoy going through too. Not sure they will appreciate it but I've sure enjoyed collecting it!

That dress is adorable. I have a box of stuffed animals and dolls that I've kept all these years. My Dad was a preacher when I was growing up and every so often he would go away to conferences, etc. Whenever he would make one of those trips, he would almost always bring back some sort of stuffed animal or doll for me and my sister. I've saved quite a few of those. My older daughter was allowed to play with them for awhile and now hopefully they'll get passed to our little Miss Sugarplum (our 1 yr. old).
BTW, I said a prayer for Beth for this weekend. May God be glorified this weekend at Living Proof Live in Portland, Oregon!

My BFF from college days had a burp cloth embroidered with the A&M logo and 'Peter' in maroon when my first was born. I loved it so much, I begged for one for my subsequent boys, so I could show off our Aggie pride when we were out in public. Those are tucked away, along with a whole lot of other precious items from their baby days.
my mom saved for me the outfit i wore home from the hospital that my dad (who is no longer with us) bought for me. my oldest daugher wore it the same outfit home from the hospital as well. i am saving it for her one day a long time down the road.
My favorite keepsake given to me is a letter that my dad wrote over 37 years ago to his grandma telling her that she was a wonderful grandma and telling her about his new baby girl (me). He is a bad speller and mispelled my name scratched it out and corrected it - that makes it all the more precious. I also have the postmarked envelope it was sent in. I cried when he gave it to me.
I am praying for safe flight for Beth!

there are two outfits I am particularly looking forward to: I've got an Easter dress from when I was 8 and a gorgeous hand made reproduction of a little house on the prairie outfit that I begged for as a child. My poor little girl is probably going to think I'm crazy when I want her to wear it. guess I'll just have to indoctrinate her to love Laura Ingalls and everything will be fine. *grin*

What a PRECIOUS baby girl! I loved playing "dress up" with my little girl too. She used the "every day" clothes with her dolls, but the special ones are still in a box for her to have when she has her own babies. *she's only 13...we are PRAYING her babies won't arrive BEFORE she's all grown up*. A really NEAT idea for baby clothes is to make a quilt with them. A friend of mine once made one and it was darling. She made the quilt in a typical pattern of LARGE blocks, about 8x10 in size. She took apart the clothes that she chose to use and sewed the front pieces on to each block. (I hope that makes sense! LOL) Anyway, it was a BEAUTIFUL keepsake and her daughter loved it. It was so nice of you to show us your little Angel all dressed up! Thank you so much! Hope the Oregon trip goes well!

I did not save many of my children's clothes but my oldest son's christening gown did turn up. He and my precious daughter in law buried our little newborn baby girl in it last year. I know that sounds sad but it is a treasured memory for this granmother.

Fifteen years ago today I had THE WORST BACKACHE ever; sadly, it lasted for days. :) My daughter will be fifteen tomorrow and when I see precious Annabeth with her "vintage" baby dress it reminds me of how fleeting time is. . . To answer your question, I am saving anything handmade, monogrammed, engraved, books that were well-loved and worn from use, books from grandparents/family, letters/cards anyone sent for birthdays, etc and the wierdest thing I saved is probably the pregnancy test I took when I found out I was pregnant and all her teeth.

My Granny smocked dresses for my oldest two girls when they were little. She had passed away by the time my son and last daughter came along. My baby (7) was named for my Granny so she enjoyed pulling the dresses out that her name sake made just for her. I now have them saved in a plastic box for my grands! My Granny also gave me a box full of my baby clothes...must say that saving things now as easy then so most were not in good condition, but great for baby dolls!
I love your dress up clothes and am sure each one holds a special memory to your mom. I never was much of a saver until a few of my loved ones passed away. There are times when all I have is the smell of my dad's pipe, and I am able to hold a memory of him in my heart. A tip: write down what you want your children to know about the item that you save.
Whose was it? Why was it special? Otherwise, it becomes just another thing, and not something dear.
After reading these posts, I must add something else:
Each year my sweet husband spends days writing a letter to our children around the time of their birthday. He recaps what occured that year, any milestones and personal reflections he has. Our daughter is 15 tomorrow and when I got up this morning, he was already wrapping up her letter. Our son is 11 and will be 12 in June. He stores the letters at our bank in a safe deposit box. To me, those letters are more precious than CD's and stocks. I don't know when he'll want to give them their letters, but it will be a joyous occasion. I've never read any of them - he does this by himself.
Also, each year at Christmas he gives our daughter a charm for her bracelet. We're planning to present the bracelet with it's charms to her as a graduation gift. I give our son an ornament for his first Christmas tree after he's married or living on his own.
When my dad passed away 11 years ago my mother gave me his and her original wedding bands to give to my son and daughter. My daughter now 12 wears her grandmother's wedding ring on her finger.
I also have clothes from when I was a baby that my baby girl Sarah wears. I have the pictures of me wearing each of the outfits so I will take a picture of her wearing the outfits. Maybe someday they will have lasted and we can get a picture of my future granddaughter in one or two of them. ;) Poor girl, only seven weeks and four days old and I'm already wishing for granddaughters.
My mother kept several baby blankets for me. Also a very special teddy bear that my 14-year-old carried and it has now been passed down to my 5-year-old son.
We've kept a ton of things for our children. Blankets, sports uniforms, drawings and crafts. I still put my 14-year-olds homemade Christmas ornaments from preschool and elementary school on our Christmas tree. My mom kept some of mine and those go on the tree too. I've also started this tradition with my 5-year-old son.
One very important keepsake (in my opinion, hope he feels the same one day) is a book of letters I started writing for my son when he was an infant.

I don't have keepsakes or anyone to pass them to. I have my grandmother's engagement ring. The only pics I have of my past are of my grandmother and my dog.
I'll be 40 this summer and I'm alone. I have friends, but when events are over they all go home to their families. I don't know how to get past the pain of being disconnected.
Definitely praying for safe, on time flights and God's provision over every detail of the LPL event.
That is so precious! That little pink dress must be a Feltman Bros. dress. It looks just like the one my Mom saved from my baby-hood. So sweet! I have 3 boys. My M.I.L. saved an outfit from when my husband had his picture made at 6 mos. old. I had all 3 of my boys photographed in the same outfit when each of them were 6 mos. old. That framed collage is a priceless treasure to her and to me!
I hope you get the double blessing of having Annabeth's picture made in that sweet pink dress and sharing it with your Mom.

My mom saved my baby outfits, too. My daughters wore my dresses, which in turn I have saved for their daughters some day....I also saved a precious (there's that word again) letter that my dear great uncle wrote to my son when he was born.

My mom saved a beautiful cream colored long sleeved shrug that I my grandma brought me from Spain where they were stationed when I was born -my baby girl has enjoyed it all winter!
After 2 boys (I saved a couple of cute shirts/sweaters and a ball cap) I am finding that I want to save everything of hers! Dresses,shoes,bows - the only thing I'm ok parting with is jammies!

I love the autographed book! When all of my children were born we received a welcome card from the White House (you can request online) and we framed it along with their baby picture. What a great keepsake!
My mom tried to get rid of my cheerleading uniforms from high school.... I quickly told her that wasn't happening :)
I think it will be fun for a daughter to see one day! And to see how skinny I was in high school! haha!!!
I have gotten so many ideas from blogs about people writing things down about their kids and even writing them letters. This is something I really want to do. So they know and I don't forget.
Hopefully when I have kids, I'll be better about printing pictures off and not just letting them sit on my computer.

My mom left me a couple of dresses and some shoes that were mine. I was blessed with three, count them, three daughters to play dress up with in them!!! I was so tempted to do the same when we had our son!! (He's the youngest and has already had to endure finger-nail painting, hair-bows and lipgloss! And he's only 18 months old!)
I had little onsies made for my 2nd & 3rd daughters with a picture of their older siblings that said "I love my big sister(s)" I have kept those. I also had a baby blanket my mother quilted for me. When I was expecting my first child we re-did the backing and edging and embroidered my birth-year and my daughter's birth-year to the front of the blanket. It is put up for her with my (hand-sewn by my mother) wedding dress.
How blessed I am! Thank you Lord, for keepsakes and heritage!

I'm saving both my daughter's christening gowns for them if they have daughters. I also have a few dresses that I hung on too to pass along because
a. They are breath-takingly cute
b. Grammy paid waaaaayyyyy too much for them at a high-end boutique ;-)
My oldest (now almost 18...sniff) carried a little stuffed elephant with her everywhere she went from the time she could walk until she was about 7. I put it away in my Lane cedar chest so she can have it back one day...maybe...I don't know if I can give it up ;-) My youngest has a blanket she's carried since she could walk and she still sleeps with it. If she ever gives it up, it will go in the cedar chest too.
My mom (Grammy) saved my favorite bear for me. But my favorite keepsake is a quilt my granmother made for me. She was an amazing seamstress and made most of my clothes when I was little. She took scraps of some of her favorite outfits, and made little cut-out dolls dressed in the fabric of my clothes and then stitched them onto a huge pink quilt. It's one of my favorite family treasures!
My mother is a whiz at sewing and took a class on how to make a french sewn christening gown. the end result was absolutely breathtaking. All four of my girls and my sisters two children have been dedicated to the Lord in that gown and prayed over. After each was dedicated, I embroidered their initials in silk thread into the skirt of the dress. It s very special and we hope to put our grandchildren's initials in the skirt as well.

I the girls first church dresses, their baby rings and other jewlery that they were given. A precious family friend made them both beautiful blankets that I hope to wrap my grandbabies in one day. THey both received Bibles at birth so those are in the keepsakes.

One thing that comes to mind that I'm saving for my son is from the Postal Commemorative Society. We started it years ago when the state quarters first came out. I was pregnant at the time and so we got my son's name engraved on the albums and for a nominal fee (haha!) we get a brand new state quarter from both mints, a large color card about the state and how it became a state and some old first-print stamps (to add value, i guess). Anyway, my son is 8 years old now and we only have one more state quarter left to get and the new ones (the DC govt buildings) will also be part of the collection and it'll be his. I also have all sorts of little personal family items and pics he drew in pre-k, little books he wrote, etc that I'm saving.

My latest and most special Keepsake has been (several years worth of) hand-written letters from my Grandma that I've neatly tucked away in an old perfume box. She past away a year ago and when I feel like I wish I could phone her.....I pick a letter from the box and read it.

My great-grandmother was a published historian/geneaologist who traced our family history back to our coming from England. She handwrote many stories about the families' settling in South Carolina and later Georgia which I now have in a binder. I hope my kids treasure those as much as I do!

I did this with one of me as a baby (the picture is propped on a wicker chair) and my daughter is standing beside the chair, barefooted...she will get it one day. It's my favorite!
Oh, that's great. I thought I was weird. I have friends who say it's ridiculous that we save clothes cause our kids aren't going to want them. I loved the clothes my parents gave me that I wore when I was little. My youngest is still wearing some of my old clothes! And the styles have come back. She was wearing a pair of my strawberry shortcake shorts just the other day. I think it's so neat seeing my kids wear clothes that I wore growing up. My oldest daughter got a really nice winter coat of mine this year. She loved it and it's very cozy. I got cold very easily, so I had VERY warm coats.

My mother saved many of my old clothes, and I've enjoyed watching all three of my little girls wear them, especially the ones my mom and aunt hand-smocked and embroidered. I've saved a number of things for my babies, but the ones I love to look at the most are are their old fancy pants/diaper covers with their names and initials. The girls will have no real use for them, but just to remember how cute those tiny tushes looked in them is priceless. Someday when they are mothers they will hopefully understand how the strangest things bring back the sweetest memories.

Please pray for Robin. She and her husband have 4 boys. Robin and her youngest (10 years old) were in a car accident Wednesday... the sun was in her eyes and she overcorrected on the shoulder of the road and crashed into a tree. The first person on the scene said they found Robin lying with her arm over in front of her son, like she'd had it out to protect him. Zachery was gone. Robin was rescusitated at the scene and is now on life support in ICU. She has signaled with a hand squeeze to her family, and a slight thumbs up when they told her they need her to stay with them. So that's encouraging. She doesn't know yet that her baby is gone. Please pray for this family. They love Jesus so much!
My Grandmother read to me constantly. So I have all those Little Golden Books that I will keep to read to my babies one day. You know "Pokey the Puppy" "The Little Enging that Could" all those fun little books.

I love the idea of Annabeth in your dresses. My mom saved a bunch of my old clothes and as my sweet girl was born the day before my birthday, sizes AND seasons have so far been correct! In fact, we had a Sunday School Easter egg hunt this year and my little Emma wore a smocked pink dress...that I had worn on Palm Sunday 32 years ago. It's so cool to compare pictures of the two of us wearing the same clothes!
My grandma recently gave me a few outfits that were my grandfather's when he was a small boy. I'm pregnant with my second, so if this one is a boy, what fun we'll have dressing him up in clothes from the 1920s!
My daughter is expecting her first so I just went through all our "stuff" I have special clothes, books, school projects and stuffed animals. My son ( sorry to broadcast this Hunter ) still has his Pooh bear on his bed even though he is no longer living at home...much.:) I found the diaper bag I had used for all 3 kids and sent it to my daughter. Inside it I found pieces of her old blankey she must have stuffed in there at some point many many years ago while playing dolls and dress up. I of course sent her that too.
My Mom didn't save much and as my girls grow I keep thinking "oh I wish I had saved....." So as you can imagine, I have 2 Rubbermaid totes in the attic already (my girls are 8 and 9)! I have saved some of my favorites outfits, cute things I had on the wall and some stuffed animals that are "too babyish" for them now, I framed their baby announcements in white frames with pink mats, and their baby scrap books are filled - hospital bracelets, front page of newspaper, etc. SO FUN! Enjoy each day and feel blessed, even on the really hard days!
I had a box of my own baby clothes that my daughter got to wear (8 years ago!). She wore my little black patent mary jane shoes. My son (now 5) didn't get to wear anything. But, I also made a box for them of special outfits they had like the outfit they wore home from the hospital, ones from grandma, etc. I also have a "tooth" box for each of them I found at Hallmark where I keep their lost teeth. We put a note to the tooth fairy to leave their teeth for their mom. So, under their pillow, they find the money from the tooth fairy and under mom's pillow is their lost tooth.
Both my boys (age 5 and 2) have a baby book that records information about our family trees, my pregnancies, their births and thier first 3 years. I think a very special thing in those books are two pockets, one for a letter from me and one for a letter from my husband. I hope they will treasure those letters, written from the hand of young parents who love their boys! Also, I've kept the outfits they came home from the hospital in and their first really sweet dress-up outfits (one was a Christmas outfit and one an Easter outfit). Man, those days fly by and before you know it you're carting kids to tee-ball and giving away the high chair. I know before I turn around I'll have teenagers!

I know my mom has tons and tons of our keepsakes, but the one I hold dear is a letter she wrote me when I was six months old, while her mother was in the hospital with a brain tumor. I don't remember my Granny, but this letter always reminds me of how special she was to MY mom, and how such a sweet little baby (me!) could brighten my Granny's day...

One of the keepsakes that my mom made me is a shadow box filled with a dress that I wore when I was a baby, as well as the hospital bracelet and some socks. I also have a shadowbox of some of my toys, like my Baby Beans, a book and a "Delta Dawn" record.
She also saved all of my baby teeth. Thank you, Jesus, that I never got those framed!!

Your two are beautiful little ones and I LOVES seeing that little dress on Annabeth. She is precious! I live in BOY world in my home (two boys, ages 10 and 4), so dresses are nonexistent here! My mom saved many things for us over the years, but one of the things I love the most are receipts. That might sound strange, but after having my own children it fascinates me to see the receipts from the hospital of when I was born, and when I had heart surgery at 6 months old. Those were huge events for my parents. Having a brand new infant and being told immediately that I would need surgery in the near future was life-changing for them. Not only is it AMAZING to see how much less expensive it was to be in the hospital years ago, those receipts serve as a reminder to me of God's protection over my life from the very beginning. I save receipts of major events for my children too, and I also have a journal book for each one of my boys, documenting seasons in their lives. I'm hoping they will one day treasure those books. If not, I'm sure a wife will someday, to get the scoop on what their husband was like as a child!
I love this! I have 3 boys, and haven't saved much to be honest, but one thing I'm really passionate about doing for them is writing in a journal to them at least once a year - telling them what they were like at that age, and sharing the gospel with them in different ways. Challenging them to be men after God's own heart, to love Jesus, and to give glory to the Lord with everything they do in this life. I think they will treasure those words some day - hopefully - since boys probably don't care just a whole lot what they wore when they were little guys! ha!
Oh yea - i DID save their coming home outfits, special blanket friends, and the usual preschool type stuff. Sweet memories . . still makin' em daily!
Annabeth looks precious in your Feltman Brothers dress. I have the same dress that my mother bought for my first daughter. It was also worn by her two sisters, two cousins and now her daughter and her niece! My mom never threw anything away, so I am blessed to have many things from my childhood that my girls used and now my grandchildren use. One of them is a beautiful little wooden rocking chair. It is now over 50 years old and my 19 month old granddaughter was just rocking away the other day! Sad thing is my 81 year old mom has alzeheimers and hasn't know any of us for about 7 years...so she did not get to enjoy seeing her great grandkids enjoying the chair and so many other things she saved.

I don't have children, but my Mom saved my favorite teddy bear, my first dress I wore, and a lock of my hair, plus my baby book. All things like that are very precious as I get (ahem) older! :)
I have one niece who is 1 and I am currently writing her a journal to give her in about 13 years when she can appreciate it. I hope it will be a special keepsake for her. I write her about different things--told the story of the day she was born, of the day her parents were married, of the first time I saw a picture of her, held her, etc. It helps me not miss her as much (she's in another state about 1000 miles way) :(

I have baby books and photo albums for each of my three sons, some clothes, their baby teeth and locks of hair from their first haircuts, baby blankets. And each has a trunk of school mementos such as grade cards, macaroni necklaces and clay things they made that they fired in a kiln at school. But the thing that makes me laugh (and makes them want to kill me) is something I found at a dance store that was going out of business... it is a tiny little leopard print "speedo" type swimming suit... in size EIGHTEEN MONTHS!!! :) it was adorable. Says me.
My mom was made all of my clothes until I was a teenager, and she saved nearly all of them. When our daughter was born, Mom presented me with a box of my baby clothes. When Krista was a toddler, my mom gave us more of my outfits. Krista thought it was fun to wear "Mommy's clothes."
My mom loved to sew, and there are lots of pictures of my sister and me in our many (matching) outfits over the years.
How neat that your mom saved those things for you. It looks adorable on Annabeth. She sure looks like her mommy!
My son has some little cowboy boots that were mine, a little wooden rocking chair that was given to me by my grandparents, and a few favorite toys.
My eldest daughter is adopted from China. The weekend we decided on her name "Robin" we went to the mountains for an adoption seminar. After the seminar we decided to go hiking. (We had NEVER gone hiking before - or since - not super outdoorsy.) But we hiked along a mountain trail, in the rain and we could hear a waterfall. We walked to the waterfall and at the foot of it on one rock was chiseled one word: Robin.
We took pictures of that rock and we have the dress she wore on the day she became our daughter and a bunch of keepsakes from China.
My first born daughter is now 31 and I have saved a box filled with her wild ear rings she wore as a teenager. She crocheted a cool ear ring hanger and hung it on her wall for easy access; quite organized actually. I plan to present them to her for rip roaring laugh.
And oh yes, I've dressed my granddaughter in my daughter's little dresses I made for her. Oh, the joys of little girls.
This is the fun part of being a woman.

I enjoy scrapbooking. I have two daughters. I do two scrapbooks. I make two copies of each photo taken, that way each daughter will have her own scrapbook. I scrapbook each year of their lives. They enjoy looking at them...I also write them letters in their scrapbooks..and I share God's word in the books also..
Another thing that I have done is make a cookbook for each of them...I not only include recipes but pictures of them making the cookies/cakes...I think that in time those will be special memories for them...

I have saved baby blankets and the outfits they came home in as well as those cute knit hats they wear. I have saved their hair from their first haircuts as well as memorabilia from school plays, and various other sporting events and the like.
My children are all grown and although I was not very successful in keeping up their baby books I did create for each of my children a scrapbook from their day of birth to the day each graduated High School.
We have spent many wonderful hours pouring over their pictures and remembering good times looking at the scrapbooks.
What a blessing to have precious pictures to look back on. Don't wish these days away, they are little only once!

I have a portrait of myself and my baby daughter (now 15) in the same dress, one my mother saved for me. I sewed and smocked most of my daughters dresses and I have saved all of those for her little girl one day, Lord willing she has one. There must be about 25 of them ranging from 2Ts to big girl dresses. I can't wait to see them on another little girl, but I'm willing to wait until the proper time. As I said, my daughter is just 15! Thanks for sharing some of your keepsakes with us.

My children are adopted from Korea, so they both have treasure boxes with all the adoption forms and photos from their referrals and foster moms. BTW, foster moms in Korea are wonderful and love the babies like their own. My daughter's foster mom even sent a hanbok, a traditional ceremonial dress. We have their Korean passports and papers, etc. We save all the usual things, too -- Special artwork, school projects.

My kids' baby books won't even shut because they're so full.... I kept every card we received, our hospital bracelets, and I have their favorite story books in there. Of course there are pictures.

How cool, it is so fitting of your mom to have treasures of her precious children.
As a mom of 6, it was difficult to save it all, but I have a hope chest in which I store all 6 of my children's precious cargo. I have baby blankets and quilts my grandmother and my sister made. In wonderful conditon. Their outfit they wore home from the hospital. All 6 baby books my sister put together for me (she has the most perfect handwriting). My sister and brother are the readers in the family and each of my children have a tub of children's books from age 0-10 given to them each year for their birthdays and Christmas. All report cards, yearbooks, sport awards, pictures etc. Some of the most precious things are their artist talents from childhood and up. Most of my children excel in the fine arts (2 of which are presently attending the Art Institute in IN). Poster/art contests awards from elementary on up, mother's day cards, Christmas items made at school. It is all tucked away neatly. When I need a good fix I take things out and weep tears of joy from the passing of years. Recently for myself as a cancer survivor of 12 years, I went through hundreds of cards which my children sent me and church friends and community friends and the words of encouragement brought mammoth tears, it was so neat to see the Hand of God at Work in every step and treatment.
I have also been thinking about getting items together which I have saved for my 27 year old who is expecting her first in August. This gives me the incentive to push to that goal quicker.
I feel so blessed to be a part of the sharing you so freely give of your life. You are so sweet.

Amanda, those are the neatest keepsakes! I love that "Manda" shirt and oh my, that dress! Precious. My mom just kept a lot of her old barbies and dolls and when she had me, passed them to me! I also got some of her dollhouse stuff, which my Grandpa and Grandma eventually gave to me after they made me my own dollhouse. Which is exactly what I plan on keeping for my little girl, if I should ever have one!
Both of my boys wore home a teeny A&M toboggan from the hospital. My 2nd son was born with Downs Syndrome and during the very emotional time after his birth, I either misplaced or threw it away or something.
Once I realized what had happened, I bought another one, just so I could have one similar. Well, I just found out this week that we're going to be able to put that new hat to use!! I'm pregnant!
Can I turn this into a prayer request? When we started thinking about another baby, I struggled with God saying, "I want another baby as long as the child does not have special needs." Finally, I got to the point of saying, "Your will be done."
My prayer request is that we continue to say, "Your will be done" and not make demands on the One who never makes mistakes.

I haven't read all the comments yet, but as I'm reading, I'm thinking that this post could be totally overwhelming if you let it! You just might want to save everything!! Personally I have a box of special things for each of our children, a few special toys and many books, and then a whole lot of scrapbooks! One thing I do is include in their scrapbooks only the really special papers from each of their school years, and if they have a big art project that is just too cute to throw away, I'll take a picture of the child with the artwork instead, and then we happily throw it away once it's been on display long enough to suit them!

Susanne highlighted her dad's bible....we found my great grandmother's bible and of course the recipes of great grandmothers, grandmothers, great aunts, aunts and mom. OH and pictures.....we found lots of pictures.....learned where I got the love of photography from!!

In terms of keepsakes for my baby boys, I've saved their hospital bracelets, going-home outfits, and footprint cards. (I need to alter one baby's footprint card, though, because I decided I don't want to tell them till they're 18 who was born first, and an overzealous nurse put the time of birth as well as the date on one baby's footprint card!) I also saved their umbilical cord stumps but I will probably end up throwing those away! I'll be keeping some more things like the Bibles they'll get at their infant dedication, their first pieces of artwork, etc. Fun question! :) And I found these really neat twins baby books called "Twice Upon a Time" that I am filling out for them as we go along (when I remember!).
I kept a plethora of children's books and now I have a Nana's Book Nook library for my grandkids (4 so far the oldest almost 7)! :)
I kept the quilts my grandmother made for each of my kids - the great-great-grandmother of my grandkids.
The most precious thing from my daughter is a little pair of red leather mary janes.
My twin boys had soft, stuffed bears (a panda, and a polar bear) that they used as pillows every night for a few years. They are flat as pancakes, but are still adorable and so precious! I have save them for their children.
My big thing is Pictures!!! Cherish the memomries! Pass on the legacy; I haven't heard Beth speak on heritage, but True That!
My husband had the privilege of serving the Bush family during their term and we have the welcome letters from GW. Sadly our 3rd baby who was just born won't have that :(
And of course their coming home outfits.

I also have an two old crochet blankets that my grandmother made for us girls. Also, I have a tiny pink bear sitting on my dresser that I used to call "Itty Bitty Bear" There's this story that my momma likes to tell about it-I kinda embarrassed to tell!:)

Every year I buy a birthday card and write a letter to each of my children. I pray for them, talk about their interests, and how I feel about them. They are all sealed and in my dresser drawer. I haven't decided when I will give them to them...13? 16? 18? I guess God will tell me when they need to hear it! I also have all the other goodies...clothes...several hospital bracelets for my son...he's a boy, he goes to the hospital far more than my daughter.
I have a bag full of baby clothes that I saved from a house that we had moved from years before - they are a mix of my baby clothes and my siblings. I have a collection of black and white photos that were taken by my grandfather from about 1916 to the 1940s - these are priceless family pictures and negatives I look forward to sharing with my future children someday. But the most precious gift that I want to give my child is a name that has spiritual as well as family meaning. My chosen name for a daughter is Keziah. This is a name that is found in our family genealogy and it also it was the name of one of Job's daughters - a name of healing and restoration. As a second name I like the name 'Eden' - in one of Beth's Bible studies, she said that 'Eden' means sanctuary. That stuck in my mind and I love the name because of the meaning.
When my sweet Joseph (named after Jacob's son in the bible) was born in 1993, I kept a handmade coat of many colors my friend made for him for his dedication.
This was the beginning of many dearly loved keepsakes, like the onsie my husband affectionately calls "dinosaurs on bikes" and the tiny kangaroo sweatshirt. He's almost 16 now, and loved all the more...

Keepsakes... I have a shadowbox with the outfit that my daughter came home from the hospital in, a hospital picture, and a baby spoon that the hospital gave.
I used to scrapbook. I'm a photo-holic. But scrapbooking became way too much to keep up with, so now I use Shutterfly to make photo books.
I make a DVD each year of the random video snippets I have acquired.
I also have several milestone bibs (like babies first christmas and whatnot) along with a few of her first onesies, etc. that I plan on having someone make into a quilt someday.
I have saved some baby clothes as well. My husband wonders why - you just can't part with some things! I also have a few baby toys. A few of my girls favorite rattles and teethers grace our Christmas tree every year along with our ornaments. I so enjoy seeing them.

So sweet, I have a similar dress that I came home in from the hospital in. My sweet daughter Lily Kate wore it home from the hospital too. Tomorrow is her 4th birthday, time goes too fast. It seems like just yesterday we brought her home from the hospital. Hold your sweet Annabeth just a little bit longer tonight, in a blink, she will be running and skipping all over the house.

My mama saved a few of my dresses they are now over 50 years old. We have yet to add another girl to our family but I still hold hope.

I have a entire cedar chest full of my kids mementos as well as my daughter's first halloween costume, The Little Mermaid. That was 1993 and Ariel was quite popular back then.

My mom saved the beautiful outfit i wore the day I was dedicated. I had 4 boys and never thought i would be able to have any child of mine wear it. God is so good, He BLESSED us with our sweet Molly Grace and she wore it to her baby shower when she was 3 weeks old. I also have Christmas ornamnets from every year until I got married. NOW I have doen that for my children. Each of my 5 children will get a box of ornaments they have gotten every year to decorate there Christmas trees some day !!!!
My mom saved a sweater my sisters and I all wore home from the hospital. All my 5 children wore that same sweater home from the hospital. My 5th was born in Arizona but she HAD to wear it home. i just told my hubby to turn up and the AC in the car...she is WEARING that sweater !!!!
