Before Baby Girl Comes

As the time for Baby Girl approaches, I've been feeling more and more reflective. I told AJ that a few days ago, I looked for something in an old purse and found a diaper and wipes and had that wonderful feeling come over me just how blessed I am to have babies in my life. I love it so much.

Late yesterday afternoon I asked Amanda if she and Curtis wanted to have a date because I'd so happily keep that boy of theirs. They took me up on it and by the time Jackson got to Bibby's house, I'd erected a tent in the middle of the floor (made out of chairs and a big bed spread) and had a home-made track for our Hot Wheels coming out of it like a long tongue. After we played a while, we sat, he and I, at the dinner table and ate supper (macaroni and cheese and the world's best white cake leftover from Baby Girl's LPM shower - but we didn't exactly eat them in that order. Don't tell mommy.) I took in everything about him last night. Every word he said. Every expression he made. Before we know it, there will be two to share our attentions and we can hardly wait but it's still so good to have a moment and reflect on this one little dude and the huge impact he's had on three families.

Lord have mercy. He's such a boy. Three years ago, he turned our girly Moore-lives upside down and we've been drunk on him ever since. I remember when Amanda first began entertaining that she might want to have children but one thing she knew for sure: they'd need to be girls. Only girls. She couldn't handle...that other kind. Then we found out about four and a half months into her first pregnancy that she was having a man-child. I was ecstatic! It was about time for some more Testosterone around here. She was happy about the prospect by then and Curtis was completely beside himself. I remember Amanda having a dream some days later that a nurse came to her with a baby wrapped in pink and said, "Mrs. Jones, we have your baby now. You can trade back in that baby boy." And she said what you think she said. Not on your ever loving life. She was hooked.

Tonight my full-term darling firstborn is going with her man and her nearly 3 year-old son to the Monster Truck show. (Yes, with earphones for protection and extra wraps. Please don't make her more overprotective than she already is!) This will undoubtedly be the best night thus far of Jackson Curtis Jones' entire life. He could practically say Monster Truck before he could say Mommy. Slight exaggeration but I have never seen a little boy more obsessed with vehicles in my life. I, the slowest driver in the entire Gulf Coast and the leading cause of road rage in America (per my daughters), have been known to break the sound barrier just to catch up with a truck I knew he'd want to see. "Go faster, Bibby! Faster!" So I put the pedal to at least 45 mph of metal just to make that boy squeal.

Of course, the men could go to the Monster Truck show without Amanda but she'll have nothing of the kind. To be honest, I wish I were going myself. But could you imagine my hair afterward? Don't you think the noise could do follicle damage?

Amanda, on this eve-season before Baby Girl blesses our lives with every shade of pink, I want you to know that you have been a fabulous boy's mom. I will treasure for the rest of my life seeing cars in your purse every time you open it to get out your wallet. I know all the times you've nearly gotten your hind-end stuck, crawling into the playground equipment to make sure your wild little man wasn't killing himself. And all the while your friends with girls got to actually finish their conversations. He is an incredible little boy. So full of life. And, yes, I know, such a handful. You're not imagining things. He is a whole lot of person. A whole lot of delightful person.

Curtis Jones has been one of the best dad's I've ever seen in my life, but, young lady, I want you to hear your mother say this loud and clear: YOU HAVE BEEN A TERRIFIC MOM TO THAT UNSTOPPABLE LITTLE FORCE WE CALL JACKSON JONES. Great job. G-R-E-A-T J-O-B.

Now that I've got that off my chest, let's have us a girl. Feel anything at all?? A single little cramp? Like every five minutes?

PS. Tomorrow's Scripture memory day, Siestas! Have yours ready and look for that post.

Ah, this post makes my heart happy. How I wish I had a mother-daughter relationship like that with my mom. Just to hear those words of approval must make Amanda's heart happy too. What a blessings boys are (I have 2!) and what a blessing Baby Girl will certainly be too! God is GOOD!

You always say the most wonderful things to your daughters on their (and yours) special occasions. They always make me cry too.

Every day I check the blog to see if there's a picture of you and Keith with Princess Baby Girl Jones.

And yes, the noise at the truck show would cause follicle damage. It's not all about you...you got a pretty head of hair to think of.

Boys and girls are different creatures. We had 2 boys, then 2 girls and then one more boy. Our newest all boy, car loving, bulldozer is Curtis Jasper. After 2 girls I'm relearning the ins and outs of a boy's heart--sweet yet rather physical!
Praying that Amanda has a safe delivery of her princess and quick recovery. Be prepared for some wonderful Jacksonisms--our son's first comment while watching his new sister's diaper change was "how does she pee?" :-)
Blessings on your family in this exciting time.

I have 3 boys: 7, 4 and 3 and I have LOVED experiencing the joy of boys - and want every single person out there to experience them as well - boys love their mommy. Now we have added a baby girl to that family - 10 mo. old now - and we CANNOT imagine life without her. She has brought a softer side to all of us - and those boys are putty in her hands - and those boys are oh so protective. God was so wise - these two genders simply complete each other. I love that you and Amanda and the whole family will get to experience both. I thank the Lord that I have.

Amanda, I love reading about your sweet Jackson. It is so fun to be the mom of a boy. But I can't wait too, to hear of all the sweet life events of your sweet princess too, starting with her healthy and safe delivery.

I too wanted a girl, with every fiber of my being. Having a rocky relationship with my alcoholic father, I wanted to see my husband with a little princess that he could wrap his heart around.... or that could wrap herself around him. Being the true southern belle, I dreamed of monograms and smocking, pink and white, sweet clean faces and ringlet curls. I even sell Mary Kay, for goodness sake. Certainly God knew that this house was made for princesses and tea parties.

But God is good, and he let my heart know, before the ultrasound proved it, that my firstborn would be a boy and our pink little world has been upside down ever since. By the time the second boy came, I was glad for his brother to have a brother, even if a little sad for myself. Now, as we pray to see if we can raise enough money to transfer our last little frozen embryos for hopes of a third, I am equally content to have a boy or a girl. I am fully entrenched in the world of cars, trucks, sports, mud, bugs, dirt, star wars, rescue heros and smelly boys. I never learned to be rough and tumbley as a little girl, nope, saved that for when I turned 34 and baby boy skipped walking and started tackling. I've never looked back. Sure, a little part of me still wants a little girl, but then I would have never known this wonderful life I have now. Thank you God!!

And thanks mama siesta, for making me think of my sweet boys and bringing on a full on, thankful, ugly-cry.

Blessings Amanda

Sweet Beth!

You always have the sweetest words to say, especially about your girls and your grandbaby. I can't wait for y'all to have some pink! It will be so much fun! I know you'll have plenty of stories for us at bible study and that just thrills my heart. I love a good story!

I also know that undoubtedly Amanda will not read this with a dry eye! Y'all are all adorable.

Many, many hugs.

And Amanda, I so hope you enjoy the monster truck show! It will ben a blast!

Love,
Lindsee

P.S. Beth, I keep forgetting to tell you how much I have treasured that sweet, sweet letter from you and from Melissa. I pray our paths cross often, too. And that certificate? I am so framing it. I know, I am a dork!

Well that made me cry, but in a good way. I am so thankful that GOD blessed you with a boy grandchild! Now you will have one more beautiful girl to add to the Moore-ettes :-)

I am praying that maybe one day GOD will allow me grandchildren - when my own grown daughter and son have given their lives to HIM and HE has full control and not a minute before.

I dropped the ball in their late teens and was not a godly mom at all.

Please GOD, if you would give me a chance, I would be a godly and fun grandmother..just like Beth :-)

Love you, Precious Sister/Siesta! Thank you for the hand you gave me to help me get steadied once I was rescued from the pit

What a wonderful post, congrats to your family. This is my first time visiting your blog and I think that it's great. I recently picked up your 90 Days with the One and Only devotional and I'm loving it, I've cheated and have done a few days at a time, but I really love it. It's so well written and rich with emotion and thought. I also love the look and feel of the actual book in my hands (never really thought about that before). I'm so excited about this devotional, it's the first I've done in a long time and I don't want to put it down.

Amanda,
I am so excited for you! I too was brought up with just me and my sister so when I had a boy first I wasn't quite sure what to do! But I loved having a baby boy! He will be 12 in 21 days! It goes by so fast, enjoy every moment of him! (I know you do!)

Then 16 months later I welcomed my little girl into this world! we didn't know it would be a little girl, I kind of thought it was because she was being so modest and not letting us see her parts! I cried and cried! They are both such a blessing, so unique and so wonderful. As is my littlest son! now 7! God is good!

Be blessed sweet Jones family!

sweet little boys are the best. i know cause i'm a nanny to THE sweetest 2 year old of them all (tied with mr. jackson i'm sure). i ran into my sweet little thing at the mall when i was meeting his mom to exchange books we are reading. when he realized we were parting ways again and not going to the play area to play together, he screamed "WAIT! I HAVE TO GIVE HER A HUG!" and ran the 20 yards back to me to throw his little-man arms so tight around my neck. if that wasn't enough to end me, when he got back to his mama, he turned back around and said, "WAIT! I HAVE TO GIVE HER A KISS!" he planted a big one on me...and as he ran away turned his head just enough for me to hear him say, "love you SO MUCH"....and i didn't even care about wiping the snot and slobber off my cheek. (well, ok, maybe after they walked away)

however, there is something about the day a little girl learns to do her first flirty look at her daddy. curtis is in for a beating. the best kind. :)

(i just glanced down to see my word verification coming up below. it says "sissy". no joke. baby girl is coming soon!)

So Sweet! I am sitting here listening to what your world is going to be like in about 5 yrs. Im keeping my little cousins, Banks who just turned 7, and Sally who will be 5 in April. Their sweet parents are away at a conference for their Dad's company so Abby and I are switching out days with them. Ivey or Mommy to them, was used to all girls and when she found out she was having a boy, she was a little unsure. Banks came and she was smitten. He's a dear boy and then when she found out about sassy little Sally, she was unsure again, because she felt comfortable with Banks! Sally is so funny because she is not quite a girly-girl but not a complete tom boy either...She loves to play soccer and football(tackle if we let her!) but do it with a pink ballerina skirt and painted fingernails! They are so protective of each other and their little brother, Ridge who just turned 2. Most of the time they play really well together but at the same time Ive seen them get into some knock-down, drag out fights! Over nothing! Sally isn't one to run crying easily either, she often starts alot of the fights!
Right now they are in the boys room and Banks is explaining how the Space shuttle takes off and how the people inside are laying on their backs at first and then....its so precious. I am sure that Jackson and your Baby Girl will one day be there!
I pray that the last few days don't drag by and that she will be healthy and ready to wrap you all around her little finger, if she hasn't already!! lol!
I hope you have a great rest of the weekend! It's beautiful here but a little cool!
Love you Siesta Mama!

I'm on for the first time all week...and just for a minute. We have a horrible ice storm and I have not had power/water/cable/phone since Monday!!! I am at my office which does have power/water/phone....

I am a property manager so I am "stealing" time at some of our vacant properteis that are on city water...oh to have water....a nice hot shower!

Was wondering about Amanda and Baby Girl. I couldn't bare the thought of her coming while I was out of communication.

In the meantime I have completed Measureless Love thanks to a portable DVD plyaer and I have done two weeks of Esther.

I was so struck by "measure"....we are measuring every minute we dont' have power/water etc....

Amazing what you do when you dont' have power. I must admit though I still dont' have my verse for tomorrow...I'm stumped it has not come to me yet....I keep looking for one that says "light is coming" Ha!

I'll have to read more about Baby Girl and Atlanta later. I thnk it's time to go and find some warm food and just enjoy seeing electric! Ha!

Now, take a trip on the wild side and MONSTER! The hair follicles will recover . . . sooner, or later.

Hey Moore families- we are praying for you on the upcoming birth of Baby Girl. I have been blessed with four daughters, and I can tell you- you will have so much fun! Until they turn 13- then it's a little fun and a lot of work! I also have four nephews, and I can tell you that no one loves their mommas like boys do- treasure that! Anyway, in two years, this siesta will have the "Perfect Storm" descend on my house- my third daughter will turn 13, and we will have THREE TEENAGE GIRLS at the same time- we are going to tie in the sails, bail out the water and hold on for dear life! Or like the movie, we may never be heard from again... Anyway, I'm so excited for you Amanda and your whole family! You are going to have a blast! Love, Becky

Mmmm...this reminds me so much of a favorite passage I have from "Wind in the Willows."

It goes like this...

"`This has been a wonderful day!' said he (Mole), as the Rat shoved off and took to the sculls again.
`Do you know, I've never been in a boat before in all my life.'

`What?' cried the Rat, open-mouthed: `Never been in a--you never--well I--what have you been doing, then?'

`Is it so nice as all that?' asked the Mole shyly, though he was quite prepared to believe it as he leant back in his seat and surveyed the cushions, the oars, the rowlocks, and all the fascinating fittings, and felt the boat sway lightly under him.

`Nice? It's the ONLY thing,' said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. `Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING--absolute nothing--half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing,' he went on dreamily: `messing--about--in--boats; messing----'

`Look ahead, Rat!' cried the Mole suddenly. It was too late. The boat struck the bank full tilt. The dreamer, the joyous oarsman, lay on his back at the bottom of the boat, his heels in the air."

AND THAT, Simply Messing, I mean, is what makes this life so very wonderful! LOVE YOU--Moores, Jones and Fitzs--may you soak up life this week with God's favor upon you.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being a boy mom even though I used to tell my man that we were going to keep having babies until I got a girl. YIKES!! No telling how long that would have taken if he had not put his foot down - no girl child born on his side of the family since the early 1900s.

I loved this post and the way it reminded me of life with a 3 year old boy. I do miss those days! The best part? Telling Amanda that she's doing a great job because that is one thing we moms do not hear enough of.

Good luck with that baby girl and all things pink!! She is one lucky baby - especially having a great big brother.

Oh I loved reading this!!! Sometimes it can feel like we're being disloyal bringing Baby #2 into the mix. I remember holding my first - on my very preggers tummy and weepingly telling him I was going to go to the hospital and would bring home his best friend.

Two boys (the Pink Angel Girl would follow - thank You, Jesus). Different as night and day. Some days best friends. Some days not.

But what would life be without siblings?

A lot more quiet.

Who wants quiet?

Live it up Amanda - it will be so much fun to watch Jackson love his new baby sister!!

Best,

Beautiful words, bethmoore. I remember when I was expecting being SO certain I was having a girl, hubby and I didn't even chose a boy's name. God must have gotten a kick out of me...especially on the day of my ultrasound at 20 weeks where I learned the truth...my sweet baby was a boy. The instant I saw his precious little form on that screen, I was overwhelmed with crazy love for him. God is good. Since the day he arrived (now 20 years ago), he has been the greatest delight of our lives.

Amanda, so glad God gave you the blessing of your sweet little man. What an awesome big brother he will be. I'm positively thrilled for you that you now get your baby girl. With you, your Mom, your sister, the LPM staff and all these siestas loving her, she'll be about the girliest girl there ever was! Praying for a safe delivery and a smooth recovery. But, I do sometimes have cute outfit envy for mom's of little girls.

The only thing that pops into my mind reading this post is the scene from Steele Magnolias (the worlds greatest movie) where Shelby is describing the colors of her wedding and her mother declares it is pink and pink. But oh no Shelby says Mother it is Blush and Bashful.
I can only begin to imagine how much blush and bashful is surrounding the Jones household right now.
Congratulations and I am praying for you as you and your family await the arrival of the newest "siesta"

Awwww, how sweet (got a little teary eyed) & we've been blessed to have been a part of
all of it too. It's been so fun
seeing Jackson as a newborn and watching him grow to an
almost three year old who is about to become a big brother.
I agree with your mom, Amanda.
You are a wonderful mom.
I can't wait to see "Baby Girl!"
Oh, it's gonna be fun!! I have one of each and wouldn't trade
either of them for anything in the world.
Beth, I'm glad you'll be close enough to be there to enjoy these grandbabies. Sounds like you and Jackson had a blast!
Love,

Having joyfully mothered two amazingly different but wonderful boys, I thought at times I was already in Heaven when my eldest married the sweetest girl in the world, then two years later, gave me a precious grand daughter. GRAND. A girly girl. Complete with a deeply embedded to her hot pink painted toe nails love love love of all things princess. We are so.... sparkley, curly, lacey, pink and purple, flowers and hearts, babies, Barbies, Cinderella and all her beautiful friends, blankies, jewelry, made up make-up, dancing, singing, Girl stuff. And now, I have two!!! God is the Giver of all good things. So much of the experiences I've been blessed to share with my grands have reminded me of the sweet times I had with my boys. While they were young, we camped, fished, hiked, climbed, dug, forged, built and blew up, shaped and shattered, ran and fell, every where God led us on our adventures. Right about the time I began to really miss those days, along came these magnificant little girls, so sweet and tender, so tiny and fragile, yet stronger than we know. God has already done miraculous things in their lives and I eagerly await what He will teach me through them tomorrow. Grandchildren are the opportunity to do it all again, with alittle more ease, a little more wisdom, and a lot more appreciation. Thank you my dear Beth for this chance to pour it all out.

this was so sweet! i have two daughters (3 and 1), and we're expecting baby BOY in May! this made me even more excited about him. i love reading amanda's blog, too--she encourages me so much about being a "boy mom", but your post was just as good as getting a blessing from my own mother. (she's not a believer, and her encouragement is sparse.)

thank you--i needed that! it was like a pat on the back telling me, "you can do this, R!"

This is by far my very favorite post I've ever ever read on here in the year and however long I've been a siesta.

I'm sitting here crying, Beth,(okay I'm bawling) because you just said to Amanda words like I've always longed to hear my own mama say to me.
I LOVE how you love your girls so much and how you show that love to them!

Quality time.... isn't it so precious? I love seeing grandparents who will get on the floor and play with their grandchildren. And go to their games and cheer them on and just flat spend time with them.

Neither of my parents were like that with me, and aren't now with my children. I feel so unimportant all the time. (and I'm secretly jealous of those kids who have their grandparents at the games cheering them on.)

You all set a wonderful example for how things should be -- good stuff and bad stuff, you guys are the real deal and I just love you for it!

Will be praying for baby girl and Amanda the next couple weeks... what an exciting time!

As a mommy to little girls, I often wonder about that "other kind"! God blessed us with two precious nephews, one of which...well...his homelife is not what God intended.. We are so in love with this little guy. He asks to come to our house and we love it when he does. Sometimes I think God gave me daughters so that special role and love of a man child would be reserved for that sweet little nephew. Does that make sense??

Anyway..I can hardly wait to hear the news that Baby girl is here! PLUS learn her name!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I got tears in my eyes reading that. Oh the jealousy I have FOR you to have that kind of mother-daughter relationship.

My little girl was 4 and a half when her little brother arrived and it was miraculous how "big" she became the day he stepped in. No more baby girl. It was killer and still is as I watch all the home videos I am turning into DVD.

You are one blessed lady Bethmoore. I will be praying for a safe delivery of your little granddaugher.

Oh my heavenly days. That Jackson sounds just like my son. He is now 13 and still is totally car crazy. Just today he was hoping his dad would taken him to that Monster Truck Show.

I didn't get my baby girl until said boy was 5 1/2. She couldn't be more pink. But surprisingly, they can play together. As long as it's what he wants to play. No ponies or Polly Pockets for his manly self.

Beth, I am Grams to two little girls that live with me. My oldest granddaughter is 2 1/2 but is a spitfire. From the moment she wakes up until she crashes at night she is on the go. My youngest is 16 months and is mellow. It is wonderful to be grams and be able to lavish love and fun onto our grandkids. Your post reminds me that we need to tell our kids how well they are doing. I am so convicted by how you pour your approval onto your kids. I will take note of that and really try to do so with my own daughters.

Girls, listen here to your Siesta Mama: You are WONDERFUL MOTHERS! I KNOW that you are! I, too, longed to hear my mom say certain things. Though she could be affirming at times and about certain things, there were conversations I longed to have that were never had. BUT, we can take that longing and turn it into a different kind of loving. We can either repeat history or we can deliberately set out, in the power of Jesus, to change the family trend.

Be affirmed this day, Sweet Daughter in the faith. That you care as much as you do about your parenting indicates what a great parent you are. You seek every day of your life to be a little stronger and do life a little better every single time you seek the face of God. Your children are BLESSED INDEED.

I believe many things will get said in Heaven that we longed to hear on earth. All our insanities and insecurities will be long behind us, may God be praised.

I love you guys. Hang in there. You are doing a fabulous job and I promise you people around you notice.

PS. Holly, I loved the story about the boat! Just messin'. I leaned in like Jackson does when I read to him and I anticipated every word. I could almost hear you read it! Y'all are so creative.

Yes, boys are rowdy, hyper and hysterical all rolled in to one. And he tells me that I kiss him too much! My son is 5-l/2 years older than my baby girl. How he loved her when we brought her home--he finally had a playmate! Well, when she was about 2 months old I found him walking proudly through the house with her perched on his shoulders, her little head and shoulders slumping over his head. After my near-heart attack, I gently took her from him and we had a little talk about her safety! So after that, I would find him dragging her around the house on one of her little pink baby quilts. At least she was ground level! Now, he is 23 and she is 17--she survived! Having a son and daughter are the absolute best gifts from God!

So, I know all about it, Sista. And, it's a grand and wonderful thing.
Also, tell Ms. Amanda, that as much as she will adore her little girl, there is still a very special and different bond between a Mom and her son - especially the first born.

Beth,
I just wanted to say how precious these words are. I can feel the reflection in your words. Little boys are a sweet blessing. Little girls are so different but just as sweet. I am imagining the tears as you welcome this new little soul into your family. Thank God for the blessing of a happy home!
I send you a verse that you might want to reflect on.

Psalm 144:12(NLT)...

"May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants.

May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace."

Beth, I'm imagining the beauty and grace of all of our daughters (and future granddaughters) as pillars in God's palace. And the sons and future grandsons flourishing as well-nutured plants in God's palace.

By the way, this psalm (144) is titled in my Bible "A psalm of trust."

I feel like a part of your family through this community of believers. Thanks for sharing your heart with us. May God be Faithful and True to all who hope in Him.

Beth and Amanda, I did the same thing with my boys--make tents, go to truck shows, baseball games, basketball games, football games, wash dirty laundry, and give up so many girly times for the sake of my four men (me being the only girl) and tonight on my 44th birthday with my men all grown I received a full cleaning of my house (I was told that I would not lift a finger) taken out to dinner with all four men (gave up their own teenage friends and plans) my two youngest took me to the movie and my son's girlfriend text me to say Happy Birthday and I Love You. The fruit is SO worth it. I can't wait to perhaps one day enjoy a baby girl grandchild but if not, I would do it all over again. Much love, Sally in Oklahoma

The Journey Continues ~

What more or was that MOORE can a Queen Wanda Elizabeth want than to have her own Prince and Princess in the family of InHAIRitance!!

It is such a treat to read the blogs from you and your precious girls. Thank you!!

Please tell Amanda that she should get
( as well as you and Keith)
A SPECIAL JACKSON ONLY BOX.
I did this with my sons when they were little. 20 months a part and first born wanted LOTS of attention after being 1st grandbaby and darling to all he met.
* Several of my friends took my advice and have gotten a SPECIAL BOX for their child/grandchild.

BOX for _____________

1.It can only be brought out when mommy is nursing/feeding baby.

2. Fill with fun little toys
( purchase at dollar store )
3. Let the child know how many minutes before having to take the box back to special place.
~ keeps them from tantrums! :)

It is a "special" time for the
1st born child to know that when
2nd child is getting attention from mommy or Bibby HE has his special box to play with and the baby doesn't!!!

I can't wait until tomorrow!!!
SCRIPTURE SUNDAY!!! :)

What a special day in my beach town today ~ my "man" husband and I walked 4 miles on the beach, and then lunch on the deck overlooking ocean ~ my honeykins made me the best espresso EVER! We fed "bird friend" and seagulls all are wild but love to have lunch with us. bird friend eats from my husbands hand now.
Then I got such a great surprise!
Honeykins told me that he was taking me and my college sons on their spring break to England for a week. The boys are so excited ~ I will try and get some crown jewels for the Pink Princess of Jones while I am there!! And I will bring Jackson some rocks from Stonehenge. :)

I love the Siesta's~~
I want to say hello to Teri, and so many who have left me the sweetest emails ever!!
Always remember ~

PARENTING ISN'T FOR COWARDS!

CHRISTIANITY ISN'T FOR COWARDS!

BEING A WOMAN ISN'T FOR COWARDS!

Be Still.. and know that I am God
Psalm 46:10

Thank you , Thank you , Thank you

Regarding the end of your post...

I didn't trust those old wives tales, but when I was about where Amanda is with my 2nd pregnancy, I called a midwife friend and asked her straight up to tell me the truth. Did castor oil really work? She said, ssssh, yes, but not to tell my doctor she told me that. So, I went right out and bought me some. Gulped down 2 tbs of it like a true woman who wanted to hold her baby and wear a belt again.
Then, for good measure, thought "I'd better drink 2 more" :O
OH MY WORD. I spent the next 2 hours with VERY STRONG contractions! I packed my bag (once I could get out of the bathroom) and was basically sitting in the car waiting on my husband when, they stopped.
Huh?

Soooo, it didn't work for me.
...but ummmm... you could always slip some castor oil in her next cup of Starbucks...

(Love you Amanda!! Sorry if she actually does it!)

I know I shouldn't feel this way, but it's so hard not to be jealous. I'm happy for you and yours, but at the same time it absolutely breaks my heart. How does one become compassionate and full of joy for friends when it's so incredibly hard not to be jealous?

Your post brought tears to my eyes. I have one boy, out of three babies, and he to is "all boy". I never thought I could be a mother of a son because I didn't think I would understand it. Now, I love it. We just celebrated his sixth birthday, and I would not trade his scraped knees, dirty fingernails, car loving, Jesus freak boy for any girl in the world. Thank you for reminding me what a joy boys are because they are just that - boys.

We went to the Saturday night service at church tonight and I saw another VVPG. It made me immediately think of Amanda and smile at the thought of the many pics that will be coming our way over the next few weeks of the newest princess in the Land of Moore.

SO happy for all of you. And, Amanda, I just want to echo your mom's sentiments to the degree I can. You have been so open and real about your mothering and, as a mom on the other end of the "mom road", I want to say GREAT JOB, sweet girl. GREAT JOB.

I can feel your heart tonight, Beth. I spent the day with my three grandsons, 4,5 and 7. I can't help myself. I look at them and just can't beleive that those beautiful, ornery, full of life little boys are my grandchildren. I can't imagine how I am so blessed.

My daugher was an only child and pretty much focused on what she wanted in life and how she was going to get it. A career woman for sure and not entirely sure she would have kids. We were like you, we beleived when/if she did have a baby it had to be a girl. I was sure when she got pregnant that it was a girl. Of course, when they told us she was having a BoY it was almost like someone took the girl and slipped in a boy. We really had to adjust our thinking. Of course she was for sure going to go back to work. Oh my, when that baby arrived I saw my daughter turn into the overprotective mother lion. The girl who always wanted to sleep was up every 2 hours feeding a little guy who just wouldn't eat much at a time. No way she was going back to work. And that precioius little boy! We felt sorry for anyone that had a girl! They was so boring! As you can see, she and her husband has filled their house and she dedicates herself to taking very good care of all 4 of her boys. They live on a tight budget becasue of the single income and she just blows my socks off at her dedication and toughness.

And I often just sit and look at them. And take in (like you said)every expression, how they talk to each other, they often sit on the couch with their legs all tangled up together and watch tv or one looks at the other with admiration when his brother does something especially cleaver or funny. Stuff as a mom I never thought to look for but as a grandmommy I take all the time I need to get my heart full of them.

How did God think of giving us this kind of blessing! I don't know but it brings rest to my soul. You think one is fun! Just wait Beth. Your not going to be able to stand double the fun it will be so good!

Eagerly waiting to her news of that little girls arrival!

Bethmoore thank you for modeling what my heart has yearned for from my mom. Like yours, she can be very affirming but never has quite opened her heart or revealed her heart to me in the way you've just done for your VVPG.

Trust me I am doing my very best for it to look different in this very "blue" house. 3 man-child(s) (I don't think there is a plural) and all gifted to a girl with only a sister, a mom who is an only child and a dad with a sister.

But this blue house has been the ride of a life. And I am so grateful to see you pour it back out to your grown girls and all over that darlin' grand-boy.

So thank you Bethmoore for the "ugly cry" tonight. Thank you for reminding me to do it different and in the words of 1 Cor. 15:51-52...

"Listen I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep but we will all be changed~in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. The trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed!"

I will patiently wait for the words I long for to soothe my heart, but while I am here I will do it different for my men. I'm trusting God.

Beth---CAUTION-UNINTENTIONAL LETTER-POST!

What a beautiful heartfelt post. I can so relate with Amanda. Our family was ruled by girls after my brother and cousin Chris entered the world. My little bubby is now 31 and has a little darlin' girl of his own that he is crazy about. She will be two in May. Every time I hear "All-American Girl" by Carrie Underwood, I think of him. I get a ginormous smile on my face. She has him wrapped, he is completely in love with her. At first though, he was having Mountaineer dreams and thinking boy. He could not love her more, she stole his heart bigtime and her Mama's.

Anyway, my first child, Adra came along. As girly as a girl can be.

Four years later, here comes Michael. I, like Amanda, was sure that I was having a girl. I did not think I could have a boy. Already had him named either Emma or Sarah Grace. Neither did my precious Maw Maw, she said she could not see me having anything but a girl, but she thought I looked like I was having a boy.

I was literally shocked when ultra-sound time came. I probably scared the technicion when my eyes got this blank look of shock and big eyes popped out, looking at my hubby like "What do I do now." He just smiled, he knows me well. Thank God for my husband, he is all boy too and I knew he would teach me things. He did. I can give anyone the lowdown on all the characters and superhero movies, etc. I was so intrigued with the strange boy things Michael did, like walking around on his knees and hands (at three) and he loved to drop in the floor and just roll. You know, practicing his sword fights. He would go outside and try to fight those birds away, again toddler age.

Well, my family was thrilled with both of mine and all of the family's new children. My family adores new life into our big family. We all love it. My girl was the first baby in two years to live close to home, but my boy was the first boy in 18 years, on both sides. So, you can imagine. My dad finally got to buy boy clothes for a boy, b/c he bought them for my daughter until his wife set him straight.

Bless his heart, all these years later, my daughter is thirteen and he sent her a Care Bear card for Christmas and Michael (9) got a puppy coming out of a stocking. Like the boy clothes bought for Adra, he simply does not know any better. But I love that he tries and that is how he shows his love. Plenty good enough for me. Bonus, we all get a heartfelt laugh out of it, but he'll never know. He is not a miesta.

I look forward to the 1st and 15th of every month. I love the scripture memory and I know mine. I have wisely picked versus that I could memorize, baby steps and versus that I do want to know in my soul. I have been thinking for two weeks what to put next and I can't wait. I'll have to after church....I called my best friend, Rachel M. from Hurricane, WV to quiz her tonight. I love to do that to her b/c I'm going to be a teacher and she gets a big kick out of it. I tell her I need to practice on her. More importantly, we are holding each other accountable. I am so grateful that she decided to do this with me. She is one godly, obedient woman and a huge inspiration to me.

Again, absolutely beautiful post about your two precious grandbabies. I have been in and will continue to pray for you all. Especially for Curtis, Amanda and little Jackson. It will all be so wonderful. What a blessing! AND, I- -CAN'T-WAIT-TO-KNOW-HER-NAME!!!!! I love names and I look in the newspaper just to find names that I haven't heard. I am so weird, but I love looking at those names. In our church bulletin, I head straight to the new births to see the names. I love to search names on the internet too. I just type in categories, most southern names, northern names, you get the picture. I love old names. My Adra is just one letter away from being Ada. Love that name, but my girl was meant to be Adra. Michael was meant to be Michael, but my hubby had to pick that one. I had no clue, but now I love it and can't imagine another boy name.

P.S. It is hard for me to admit to the becoming a teacher thing on here b/c I love to use incorrect language on here. It is liberating. It is a blog and I just let loose and don't proofread anything. I have to proofread so much, that it feels good to type and let my incorrect lang. flow.

Your family has been a true blessing to mine.

Very Sincerely and with much love,

Barbara Shrewsbury

Beth and siestas,

These comments have truly warmed my cold heart tonight. Thank you. I love the different stories of boys and girls.

Ya'll are in for an adventure. We have all pink American girl parties, in every shade of pink you can imagine. My mom, the most awesome seamtress makes American Girl costumes for my Felicity and her friends. American Girl could probably sue us they are so much like the real thing, probably better.

Boy parties, lots of light saber fights, dressing in costumes of every superhero over the years. Well, my son has gotten over that now, to my distress, but it is still wonderful b/c now we go do laser tag and stuff like that.

Adra has no shame, she refuses to quit dressing up for Fall candy hunting. She says she will never stop. I'm kinof glad, I like to keep them little as long as possible.

Okay, I'm getting off of here now. I'm going to my journal and not going to hog the blog.

Shannon, I was one of those girls, outside making mud pies, with rock decorations on top, mind you, with my official recital ballet costume on!

Growing-up in WV, we played outside from dawn until dark and we did not want to come inside at that point. We explored every bit of woods in a 100 mile radius. Except me and my cousin, Adrian, always wore her mom's night gowns(over our clothes), you know, for the princess affect.

Oh, and for Curtis Jones, watch out. Your going to have a Daddy's girl on your hands. Trust us siestas on this one. My little bro won't let Jess cut Bella's hair, but he got all fussy when he came home one day and she had piggy tails in. He said "What happened to the baby I had last year." My poor hubby, well, our daughter is 13 and the over-protectiveness has gotten way worse. We are worried for him. I truly believe every dad of daughters needs a support group. I mean that with true love and concern. My husband almost went to the school and had a talk with a 5th grader that had a crush on our daughter! The VP's son too. UGG. That is the day I realized, boy, are we in trouble! He did not grow-up with girls.

Praise God! He has restored our family and my mom expresses her love to me every time I talk to her and I can talk to her about anything and she is there. My dad does the same. His is in the man way, but if I really need him, he is there in the deep mom sense. It has been a long, painful road, but we are on the other side now. By the grace of God and I continuously thank Him for it. Forgiveness is key for us.

I have friends that have unwilling parents and I feel so deeply for the ones that can't get that restoration. But, I read a very profound book by Stormie Omartian called "Stormie." It is heart- wrenching, her autobiography. It is so brutually honest, it is hard to read in some parts, but it was worth it to me. I could not put it down. I read it four years ago in a day. She made a good point...that although her relationship was never restored with her mother, it was in every way through her daughter. I will take a step out here and suggest to anyone struggling with the lack of love from parents to rent or grab a copy of that book. May be one in the church library. Again, it may shock you, the brutal honesty, but for me, I can only read authentic stuff, have no room for fluff, thus, why I LOVE BETH MOORE! It was worth it for what I got out of it.

Okay, journal time. I am so getting off here. I am so dang rude! B-katy

In fact last night, my hubby was looking for some money in my purse to tip the pizza guy with and he said, I don't see the money but I see a bunch of hot wheel cars... I told him to look under the cars! LOL!

Your comment to us Siesta's was just as sweet. I am so thankful that I now have a wonderful relationship with my Mom and and blessed to hear from her that I am doing good at the mother thang, cause it is HARD!

I've been especially mindful lately of my sweet mom who is now an inhabitant of Heaven because she would say things like that to me...and always somehow at just the right time.

Oh, Sweet Lord, let it be said of my by my own sweet girls.

Thank you, Beth, for making me a better Christian, better woman, better wife, and better mom.

I am praying for safe delivery and joy abounding with the arrival of the Princess.

Oh, and Amanda, if those 'cramps' are 5 minutes apart, don't let your mom drive you...hitch a ride with the ice cream truck if you have to. Jackson will enjoy the ride and you might get there faster.

I know you can't wait to get your arms wrapped around that little girl. I hope Jackson will share with you - you know how big brothers can be.

Jumping a day ahead on the memory verse blog...I was so excited when you started the memory verse accountability. I set down and wrote the 8 verses for January through April. I had learned the first one, but I lost my index cards January 12 and couldn't remember the next verse. I jokingly told my daughter if I don't find them God's going to have to give me a verse. He did! It was a verse from the study "Discerning the Voice of God". I wrote it down and January 15th there were my cards eye level on my book shelf. I tore out the filled cards, wrote my new one down, but I paper clipped the others in the back because I was going to use them. Well here it is the 31st and He gave me another verse. Each verse just flows into the next one with how God is dealing with me. Someone else could probably look at these 3 verses and not see any connection, but He didn't give them to somebody else. God's Word is so personal and precise – not just for memorizing. Aren't His love pats great!

Beth I was at your conference the weekend after Curtis was born when you put his adorable pictures on the screen and sat on the floor and just beamed and gleamed looking at him, then taught us about generations. One day he'll be able to thank you and Keith for all the prayer and work you went through to give him the precious heritage he has in his parents and grandparents and aunt & uncle. I haven't been blessed with grandbabies yet, but my sister said she was not prepared for the joy of seeing her daughter become a mom. I sense the same in you. What fun to have one of each! God is so good to allow us to have love that multiplies rather than divides. Can't wait to hear the applications that will come with her tender life. Your family blesses all of ours. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I second the emotions of many of our Siestas when I say that oh... sometimes I wish I could have had the tightly woven relationship that you and your daughters enjoy. I am unfortunately the product of having been raised by a mother whose of curbing my little girl's enthusiasm was to smash my head against a concrete wall. but I'm not saying this to raise self-pity nor to externalize any kind of envy! quite the opposite! I totally rejoice in the knowledge that the Unconditional Love that God has imparted upon us all as His children is, indeed, reflected in the lives of real mothers and daughters, and that I , too, can be both recipient and giver of this very same Love, regardless of past circumstances! (I hope I'm making sense, it's way too early in the morning for me! :)) )

I have a fun boy/car story to tell you. Our son was 3 or 4 years old at the time. He was zooming his cars around on the living room floor. A friend of ours started playing alongside him. Our friend acted like a police officer and told our son to "pull over". Our son smiled and didn't pull over his car. Our friend said, "Are you resisting arrest?" Our son replied, "No, I'm not sleepy yet!"
Right on, brother! He was (and still is) ALL boy!! LOL

But that is high praise comming from your Mom (even if she is Beth Moore) I was really just reflecting on any Mom and remembering how blessed I am to have 6 grandchildren under 9 yrs old. My two boys gave us 3 a peice and all at about the same time. Man do they keep us jumping but it is a blessing, it is amazing how your heart has so much love for even more! Can't wait to hear about delivery, will be praying for you and Bibby too.

You know I wish I had a mother daughter relationship like this one... Oh how I would love to be able to feel so close to my mom like Amanda and Melissa do.. But alas at this time is it not meant to be... But I do cherish what I read with your family.. thanks for sharing...

And Jackson well... he couldn't have a more wonderful Bibby than bethmoore... oh and now another little one ... in pink.. wow ... so much love bubbling from the Jones, Moore and Fitzpatricks houses ... I can feel it from here and the overwhelming joy brings sweet tears to my eyes...

Now Amanda if you have that beautiful baby on the 11th that would be great cause I can share that day with her, but if not ... No matter when you do... she will be loved by women all around the world that love your family.

Beth thanks for sharing this with me this morning... I love you all so much.

No! Not until February 13th! FEBRUARY 13th!!!! You hear me!! That's my birthday. And I hope it doesn't bother you that it is on a Friday this year. It doesn't bother me. The only thing that bothers me is my kids don't have school that day, so my hubby can't take me out for lunch like he did last year. Actually, the whole day was mine. He took me to the hair salon where I had my hair done and a manicure, which he'd already paid for. Then, he picked me up and took me to my favorite restaurant for lunch and he wasn't done! He gave me gift cards to 2 of my favorite stores and took me shopping and didn't complain once! It was awesome! But this year I'm stuck at home with the kids. Oh, well. I'm sure we'll have fun. The kids are excited because they get to spend time with mom on her birthday for a change. I'm just wondering what Josh is going to do this year. He's shocked me every year since my 30th birthday when he threw a surprise party for me. His creativity is endless.

What a sweet post! My first "adopted" grandchild was a boy who is now six and learning Latin. His favorite vehicle was always the big "lello" school bus. Then came his brother who is now three going on twenty-three. My boys have been such a blessing! But we just found out the new baby due in July is a girl! I do love buying frilly little dresses.

Praying for you Amanda as you bring your little princess into the world.

Much love!

I just have to tell you that my BFF and I are doing the Woman's Heart study together. This is my second time, her first. The first time I did it was with the original with a group of wonderful ladies at my church at a much needed point of my healing. Amazing. So for her birthday this past year I gave her the workbook and committed to purchasing the video downloads as we go. It has been wonderful AGAIN. As you well know, it was taped right after your Jackson was born. I just want you to know how blessed we are that you even took a second away from them to minister God's word to us. Amanda, you are a blessed woman and I pray that these final moments with your "only child" will be full of God's goodness and grace. He has fully equipped you so that you will see his GLORY in the coming years. His grace is sufficient for you. Thank goodness. Be blessed, girls!!

Oh Beth I so agree with your comment that we can take lessons learned and create a loving enviroment for our children. I think that is why I love the phrase... "But God..."!
I came from an abusive background BUT GOD! But God has shown me and changed me and allowed me to be a loving(not perfect!)mama and blessed me to see two of them become godly youg women wholly sold out to God and a even younger one, well on her way bringing joy every where she goes.
But God...can change it all in just one generation!!!
Praise God! Praise God!

Beth, This has nothing to do with Baby Girl, but I wanted to share something with you that my pastor said this morning. I thought you might like it since you are a visual person, and like animals (or at least dogs). He said, "bury your head in the mane of the Lion of Judah". Can you imagine?! That gets God's love, protection, and power all in one picture, doesn't it?

Amanda, can't wait to hear the exciting news (and name) when baby girl arrives! You are one brave woman to go to a Monster Truck show this far along. I went last year with my boys- it is loud. Maybe the noise and excitement will hurry things along, maybe.

This post is so very dear to my heart. My first born is just a few weeks away from being 2-1/2. He has turned our life upside down. I love being a mommy to a boy - and talk about being totally boy! He too is into ANYTHING with wheels!
He and my precious husband went to Monster Truck Jam last week here in Indianapolis (with earplugs in tow)! I so wanted to go and hear his squeals when he saw in real life all the trucks that are parked in our living room. They even got pit passes so he could stand next to the huge tires!!! It was a Daddy/Son night and Mommy graciously let them go on their way and stayed at home with our 10 month old. Yep, you guessed it - a little girl. Our very own princess!
Amanda, you will see how different they are right from the get go. It is breathtakingly amazing. Only God could design it!
Loving Him with y'all!

We took the kids down to the beach for a picnic and some time to explore the little coves (CA) after church and I thought of your post as Samuel had a non-stop commentary going about the various vehicles along the highway. We LIVE the movie Cars- no kidding. We live next to Fillmore, Mack brought the toys to CA, Sally lives down the road at the Porsche dealership, we see McQueen racing all of the time, and did you know that Doc is a "fah-vulus race car?!" Of course, I love it, and I, too, have been known to slow down or speed up so we can get closer to a firetruck or monster truck...

Oh how this post did my heart good to read. My Mom sounds like you in her Grandmothering (Nana-ing) style! She had a "cousins" night a few weeks ago, and I believe SHE had more fun than them! :) When I came to pick my 3 up, she asked why I was there and told me to go find something else to do, b/c she wasn't through with them, yet! How truly amazing it is to have such Grandmothers in our children's lives! What a tremendous blessing.
I have a couple of those delightful, handfulls, too! And, one of them, even has the middle name, Curtis! He can identify ANY truck on the street! And his love for "Munster" Trucks is boundless. It must have something to do with that name. His Daddy is, also, Curtis and a wonderful Dad. Yep, must have something to do with that name. :)
I wish you all the very best on the upcoming, life changing experience. And, pray, that the little Princess is blessed with GOOD HAIR!! Don't get too drunk on all that pink! ;)

Beth, you are such a sweet mom. I know your girls adore you. I can tell by the way they look at you and talk about you. Amanda has learned from the best.

I am grandma to six and am the same age as you! I started with a boy, who is now a man (well almost) and 14 years later ended with a boy. I have three girls of my own so when I got the first boy I was thrilled, he was so different. Then we had the four girls and of course, I loved every minute of hair, make up and tea parties, still do. But this second little boy is just as you describe Jackson. He is almost two and all boy. He, too, loves cars and trucks and never stops!

Praise God for these precious grandchildren. I love them all the same and different! They are all unique.

I know you will have so much fun with this little girl and she will be the new princess of the Moore house. All pink and frilly! Can't wait for the pictures.

I am praying for you all.

Forever His,

Lawan Rivera

love their sweethearts first
their wives the most, but

I loved your story about Jackson. I don't have my own children, but my sister's children are as dear to me as if they were my own. Her first son is now 9 years old. We thought he was such a handful when he was little, but that was before his litte sister, now 5, came along. He was an angel compared to this little ball of fire. The only time she is still is when she is asleep. We also couldn't wait for her to start talking, but now we can't get her to stop! :) We wouldn't trade her for anything, though. But, just so you know, that curse your Mama puts on you about your kids being just like you or "worse than you ever thought about being" (my Mama's words), that curse works. So well that my Mama has actually apologized to my sister for it. My niece is the spitting image of her mother. Sometimes it's like looking at my sister at that age. And her oldest son is just like his dad. My sister just had her third child, a boy. We can hardly wait to see who he is like, though we are enjoying him as much as we can while he is still a baby. The other two are growing so fast, it's hard to keep up.
Anyway, I said all of that to say, congratulations on the upcoming arrival of you sweet little angel princess, but don't be surprised if she is a wall-climbing little tomboy. :) You'll still love her so much it hurts.

Dearest Beth, as so many others have said, your tender words to your children always make me smile through tears. That's because I, like others have never had that type of relationship with my own deeply wounded Mother. As I "deal with my stuff", I try to keep the good and leave the bad behind, as you have suggested. And you know what? The Lord, in His gracious, loving-kindness, has used you (and others like you) to show me how to better parent my own children.

So Thanks, Beth for not only being such a loving example in mothering your children, but for mothering the rest of us as well. The affection I feel for you and your family is great indeed. Why else would I be on the edge of my seat excited and blog checking TWO times a day waiting for a sweet babies arrival!? I am excited with you and praying for you all!

Beth,
I am awaiting the birth of my 2nd grandchild (actually my 3rd but that's another wonderful story I'll share later). We are actually going from North of Atlanta to Macon tomorrow morning to await the birth of this blessed child. I am so excited it's hard to contain it! I tell everyone that ask that I just can't explain how wonderful it is to be a Mimi!

Last summer while we were at the conference at Phillips Arena with you, my daughter told myself and her mother-in-law that she was pregnant but it wasn't a viable pregnancy and they were going to check her the next week and schedule a D & C. We decided not to accept this news and immediately got on the phone and had our husbands on the internet getting the word out that we were desperate for prayer and everyone around us at the arena as well. The next week she went in to schedule the D & C and they did one more ultrasound just to make sure and everything was fine and it has been a wonderful pregnancy up to this point! We don't know if we are having a boy or girl (one last bit of control over the mothers I'm sure) but either way; to be awaiting the birth of a child that the doctors thought wasn't meant to be....how powerful is that! Keep us in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow as Brooke labors to bring this child into the world!

this is the last and no need to post it but i was just thinking about the faithful servant who multipled his gift a hundredfold

I love this post! We actually got our pink baby first, so when the second was on the way we couldn't imagine life any other way... and I have to admit it took me a couple months to get used to the idea (I think I remember thinking, "oh God, what have a done to deserve this?"). Now I simply adore my daughter and all of her girly, princess pinkness, But oh how that little man has stolen my heart! A good friend tried to describe to me once the special way a boy loves his mommy. I thought of her comments when God placed this loud, hungry... and loud... and hungry... little person in our lives, and wondered if she might have lost her mind. I really had no idea what she meant until the day that little guy looked at me with his best "oh mommy, the sun rises and sets with you" look, and I was done for him. Done, done, done. It's been such a blessing to see life and God's creation through the eyes of both sexes.
