A New President
My Dear Siestas, I can't think of anything more appropriate and more Biblical than reserving this day on our blog for heart-felt prayers for our new president and his family. You are welcome to write your genuine words of intercession as a comment to this post just as you'd lift them before the Throne of Grace for President and Mrs. Obama and their two precious daughters. Today it makes no difference how anyone voted. God in His sovereignty has appointed this day and our new president needs our prayers. "This is good, and pleases God our Savior." 1 Timothy 2:1-3.

Lork, I pray for protection for our president and his family. Bless him with Your discernment and wisdom. Help him to hear your spirit, turn his heart toward you in all matters.

Max Lucado started a prayer initiative for this day. On his site, he had some scriptures and prayers for P.E. Obama.
Our fight is not against people on earth, President Elect Obama, but agains the rulers and authorities and the powers of this worl'd darkness, against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly word. President Elect Obama, Prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Remember that God will always give what is right to his people who cry to him night and day, and he will not be slow to answer them.
I pray that the God of peace will give you every good thing you need so you do what He wants.
Father, Keep them safe from the evil one.

Lord God, I lift my prayer for President Elect Obama and for his family. As he takes the oath of office later today, he will become our President and our leader. May we be unified behind our leader. I didn't vote for him but it is my heart's desire that he have fabulous success. I pray, Lord that you will give him wisdom to follow you at all times, above all else, and regardless of whatever his political advisors may say to the contrary. I pray Lord that you make him your mighty defender of liberty, your mighty defender of life, and your mighty defender of Jesus. It's clear that the presidency transforms those who serve. I pray for Obama's transformation to be pleasing to you in every way. I pray for his family... for protection, for joy, and for their roles as supporters and encouragers. Thank you, Lord, for your mercy in allowing our country to continue to thrive, when we've so obviously departed from a focus on you as a nation. Especially on this day, Lord, I pray for you to pour out your Spirit on this nation and humble us. Lead us to repentance and heal our land as we confess before you. Thank you so much for this historic moment in time for our country and our world. Give President Obama the strength and courage he needs to lead this great nation. I lift up President Obama to you today. He is our country's new President, and He needs You ... Your Presence, your Protection, Your mighty hand leading him, Your wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. Be with him and his family and give them Your heart for the world. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
Father, God, I ask for You to surround our new president and his family with your angels of protection. Please guard and keep them safe. Father, I ask that you give President Obama wisdom as he accepts this heavy yoke today and that You be ever close in his mind and heart as he makes decisions that affect our country and our world. Take care of him, Abba. Draw and keep him close to you today and in these coming weeks and months.

Lord, I pray now for President Obama. Grant him wisdom and discernment in all matters affecting this country and keep your hand on him. Draw President Obama ever closer to You during His presidency. Send your Spirit to strenghten the family during his years of service. Lord, a special prayer for his two sweet daughters who will grow up in the public eye during the difficult tween and middle school years.
Father, please protect him and his family as they serve our country. Watching the Obamas and Bush's meet just now at the White House, and this peaceful exchange of power, I am in awe that we ARE one nation under You. and we thank You for this freedom. Please give President Obama the wisdom of Solomon in all that he does these next 4 years. Guide him with your Holy Spirit, and draw him close to you I pray. In Jesus' name.

I pray for God's hand of protection for the Obama and Biden families. I pray that God will bless them with His wisdom and grace. I specifically pray for the two little girls, that they will be happy and free from scrutiny as they share some of their childhood with the world. I also pray for peace, health, and happiness for Mr. and Mrs. Bush as they end their service today.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the opportunities You so graciously give us to pray. We ask that You cover our new President and his family with Your Hand today, that You would lead him to seek You in all his decisions. We pray that You would surround him with advisors that have Your will in their hearts and that You would give Him a desire to hear from You in all that he does.

Father, I agree with the prayers already lifted, I pray that you surround the Obama family and our country with your favor as with a shield, I pray against the enemy's attack...I pray for our nation to be one nation under God , and you alone are God.

Lord, thank you for this brand new day in Christ. I pray for President Obama and his family today! Lord, guide him in every decision, protect him, and renew his strength each day. Lord, remind him the government rest on Your shoulders. May Mr.Obama seek your face daily.

Father, in the name of Jesus I pray that You will move us as a country to pray continually for our new President and his family, that it might go well with us and that we would live at peace. Your Word says the heart of the king is in Your hands and that You turn it wherever You will, like a watercourse - I pray that You would turn his heart fully toward You and give him widsom, understanding, discernment and a heart to seek and obey Your leading. What an important day to lift our President-elect and his family to you. Father, we ask as his new administration begins, that you place a hedge of protection around them. Most importantly, I pray Lord that he may discern Your voice amidst the many throughout his administration. Oh Lord, I thank you that we live in a country where the change of power is peaceful. Be with our in-coming president as the enormity of the job hits him. Give him guidance and wisdom, let him surround himself with honest and wise counsel. Bless his family with peace and bring them closer together during this time. I pray also for our out-going president and Mrs. Bush. This is also a transition time for them. Let them find peace, comfort and joy in these times as they let go of the reigns. Lord, help us to remember that at all times You are in control. Show the president and us how to turn to You as we continue to fight the good fight of faith. Lord, You have instructed us to pray for our government and those in authority. We pray not only for President Elect Obama but for all those who surround him. You have proven over and over that your work will be done and we pray it is so.
We pray for the entire Obama family. This is not an easy venture for any of them. We pray Your hand will be on them and bless them.
We also pray for the hearts of Americans. For the non-believers, we pray they will know you. For believers, we pray that we will live your Word and desires.

God, I pray that today you will bless and equip President Obama with the tools he needs to succeed. Lord, surround him with godly counsel. Fill him with your Holy Spirit, speak to his heart, and draw him into your presence. Lord, give him strength, wisdom, and discernment as he leads our nation.
"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you."

It is no surprise to you Oh Lord who is in authority over America in this age. You are in control over all things and you have put things into place. Thank you that your will be done today on earth as it is in heaven. I ask you to give wisdom as you gave it to Solomon to President to Obama- who is to be in authority over our country. Thank you that you make all things work for the good of those that love You. I ask a special touch of your presence today upon President Obama and his family, that today they may feel your majesty and sense your presence. Thank you that our country has come this far. Amen.

Dear God, please protect President and Mrs. Obama and their children. I pray that you will give them wisdom as they make the many decisions they must make in the next 4 years. I praise God for Michelle and her wisdom as a mother to have her girls do their own chores instead of letting servants do it for them! What a wonderful example, teaching her kids responsibility.
Father, today we ask for a hedge of protection about our new president. We ask for You to give him a godly fear and a thirst for righteousness. We ask that you bless him with divine wisdom, and that you bless his family with compassion and fortitude. Father, give us, your children, the grace to submit to authority in a way that is pleasing to You and the integrity and skill to challenge those things that do not please You. Jesus, I can't help but think as I watch the news this morning that our new President doesn't have an inkling of the enormity of the tasks before him. But You do. I pray that our new President will seek Your wisdom, and I thank You that Your word promises that You give wisdom generously to those who ask. Jesus, our new President says he knows You personally - I ask that Your Spirit would so flood him today that he is brought to his knees in humility and gratitude. I pray for Mrs. Obama - that You would ease any anxiety she has, that You would fill the heart of this wife and mother with peace, that You would protect their marriage in the face of new challenges and anxieties and tensions. I pray for their two precious little girls - that You would protect their innocence of heart and mind in a world that is increasingly evil, that You would speak peace to them in the midst of any fears or insecurities that may be taking root in their young spirits, that You would protect them as well as their Daddy and their Mom from those who may want to harm them. Lord, today, I thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. I thank You that You are a shield about us and the lifter of our heads. May You be the Ruler of our hearts, the Guide of our earthly leader, and the Spirit that brings your people to conviction that leads to the spiritual awakening our nation so desperately needs. For by You and through You and from You are all things - to Your name be the glory! ~Amen~
Lord, As we enter into this new presidency I pray for Obama and his family. Lord I ask that your hand of protection be on them. I pray that as the leader of our nation Obama will seek to do your will, that he will appoint God fearing men in his cabinet, and that he knows you as his Savior & King. First of all, thank you so much for allowing me to witness this extraordinary event. I will never understand what is happening in the hearts of my African-American friends today, but I do understand that this is a BIG day! Please bless each person who is present at the ceremonies today and keep them safe and warm.
Father, please be with President Elect Obama today as well as in the future. Please keep he and his family safe and give them Your wisdom.
Please bless President Bush with much-needed peace, quiet, and rest for as long as he needs to recharge his batteries.
And, finally, Father, please give Your wisdom to those who have so bitterly disagreed with each other over the last few years. No matter what the political views, please bind the tongues of anyone who would thwart Your purpose. Our ways are not Your ways, please let us all remember that.

Lord, as this nation swears in a new president, I ask that You bless, guide, and protect him. May he seek wisdom from You. Give him the wisdom to choose right and object wrong in all decisions. May he be the president of all the people. Give him the strength and courage to protect our country against all enemies. I pray the citizens would recognize that you have placed this president in authority over us according to your will. I pray that we would respect that authority and put differences behind us as we support the one you have appointed. Father, I pray also for our President leaving office and his family. We do not know all (although we would like to think we do). Protect him, guide him, and bless him. I pray for the hearts over the last eight years that held such anger and hatred for another human being will be softened and see that peace and love are not just agreeing with someone who agrees with them, but it having love for our enemies if they are in fact that.

God, I ask You to surround President Obama with wise, godly counsel. I pray that by the conviction of Your Holy Spirit he will choose what is right and honoring in Your sight. You say in Proverbs 21:1 that "The king's (president's) heart is in the hand of the Lord; [You] direct it like a watercourse wherever [You] please." Oh God, change President Obama's heart. Bend his heart toward righteousness and away from choices that will bring destruction to our nation.
I pray, God, that You would pour out Your Spirit on Your people and raise us up as bold intercessors - a might army - on behalf of Your Kingdom and our nation. I pray that Your people, who are called by Your name, will HUMBLE ourselves and pray. That we would seek Your face and turn from our OWN wicked ways, so that You may hear from heaven and forgive our sin and heal our land.

Precious Heavenly Father, I thank you for our country and the freedom that is fought for everyday so that we may choose who our next president is, among many other things. I pray that you will unite this country in Your name, and guide President Obama and his staff. May they look to You in every decision that they make, and wait for Your answer, as David did. Love on them and show up BIG in their lives. Help us to be women and men of prayer for them and for all of our leaders!
Lord, you are doing a new thing, and I pray we wouldn't miss it! Thank you for new beginnings, fresh starts, and endless possibilities when we rest in your embrace. I pray you would bring peace and wisdom to our new president and his family in this time of transition. I pray that he would feel the support of his country behind him, and that you would give him the strength that he needs to make it through each day in this job that you have ordained for his life. I pray against every scheme, trick, attack, and mental war of the enemy against mr. obama and his family, and that your will would be known and done within the walls of their new home--both personally, and for our great nation.
I pray for those 2 sweet little girls who will be adjusting to their new home and their daddy's new job. I pray that this would be a joyful experience for them, and one that would shape and mold them into the daughters of your kingdom that you created them to be.
I thank you for our peaceful knowledge that the government will rest upon your shoulders; that no matter who we appoint in office at any given time in history, at the end of the day, you are still King. We anxiously wait for the day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess you as Lord.
Heavenly Father, I praise you that all times, nations, kings, and thrones are in your hands. I lift President Obama, his wife, and his family to your eternal and almighty throne today. Please guide him with your Spirit. Give him wisdom to lead our nation wisely and according to your ways. Give him courage to lead well and to lead humbly. Grant him grace to resist the temptations and deception of pride and power. Speak to him, guide him, direct him. Please provide godly counsel through your Word and/or through godly men and women. Be with President Obama's family during this time of transition and through all that the next four or more years will hold for them. And move us to pray continually for President Obama and all our nation's leaders, and to honor them as you call us to. May your will be done, Lord God.

Lord, thank you for the work you are doing. Though your plans not make sense to us, I rest easy knowing your good and perfect will is being carried out. As this family takes on a tumultuous job draw them nearer to you Lord. Lord, I pray that you bring them the peace only you can provide.

As I watched the ceremony today my heart ahced as we allowed "oth gods" to be honored. Please Lord, be with President Obama, give him wisdom to know and trust that there is only ONE true God. Please give him wisdom to know that there is not only good and evil in this world, but a spiritual battle raging. Protect his family throughout the next 4 years. Heal our country as we are so divided. I have talked with many that are elated over today and many that are in despair over the same day. Please give us comfort that YOU are in control.

Dear Lord, I ask you to be with the leaders of our country. That they will recognize the problems in their lives and will seek your wisdom. I pray that they will also seek your wisdom when they are dealing with problems that affect me or my loved ones.
I pray that you give them rest so that they have the energy to meet their daily demands.
Give them strength to acknowledge you first, quality time with their families, time flexiblity to spend time with you, endurance to work and some time left over to have time to unwind from their daily struggles.

There is no authority except the ones that you have established. As You say in Your Word;
1Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.
3At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
(Titus 3:1-3).
Grant us in this new time, a period of peace, of love, of forgiveness, of obedience and freedom. Fill the heart and mind of President Barak Obama with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Grant him wisdom and grace in all his dealings, and abide in him in all he does.

Thank-you for your sovereignty and grace. I do pray for president Obama and his family. That they would encounter you in a way they never have. Surround them with people who love you Lord as they take on the challenges of the nation. But above all, may the people know that we look to no man for peace and hope, but only to you, sweet Jesus. Heavenly Father, I pray for President Obama and his family. I pray for their protection. I pray that he seek You in all of his decisions FIRST, not after seeking others opinions or last, I pray for wisdom for his decisions and how they effect our country and those around us.
I pray you give Your strength to First Lady Obama as she stands at his side, while raising two beautiful girls.
I pray for Sasha and Malia and they share their dad with us, but they can also have a "normal" life and continue to grow in You.

Most Heavenly Father, I lift up our new President and his family today into your most gracious hands. Thank you that you brought up a president for our country that is so thoughtful. Thank you that he weighs everything carefully and seeks the counsel of men and women from all different walks of life that he may balance their words and make the right decision.
Lord, I thank you that even his decision to call himself a follower of you was one of much seeking and prayer and meditation and a very long journey. I pray even in the wake of the pain and abandonment he felt with Rev. Wright he will seek desperately to find the time to come before you and weigh these deep issues with you.
Lord, his spirit seems to be one that takes things and decisions seriously. Lord, speak to him in the quietness of his meditation. Come to him at every opportunity as he stays awake nights to weigh the facts to make decisions. Thank you that he is a man that tries to see all sides of the issue.
Please, oh Lord, be that gentle, tugging voice that guides his steps. May he find rest and solace in your Word and your ways.
Daddy, may we as believers rise up and learn to set aside our differences and work in unity to support our president rather than tear him down. May you work on our hearts to teach us how to love others--especially the leader you have put before us.
We love you, Daddy. Work deeply in the inner workings of the heart of our new leader. Let him guide us faithfully as he seeks your will, first and foremost. We praise you for this country in which freedom lives and reigns. We are BLESSED in this country, praise you God. May President Obama turn his ear to You and receive his guidance and wisdom first and foremost from You. May he pray to You like crazy. May you protect the entire Obama family and provide an easy transition for for sweet little Malia and Sasha.
Dear Lord,
Your are our most gracious Heavenly Father and we come to your through the precious blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. It is by His blood and through His blood that we are able to boldly approach the Throne of Grace and to lift up our new President and his family. Lord, he has a very daunting task in front of him and it will take total dependence on you to accomplish wonderful things for our country. Lord, you have left the doors of grace and mercy open on our country for a very long time. Compared to most of the world, we are very priviledged and have more than plenty. Lord I know that there are those out there who have more than I do but certainly those out there who have much less than I do. I simply pray that our President will be fully reliant on you.
God, if he is not Your child, I pray that You will put someone into his path that will boldly share the gospel and that his heart will be moved to accept you as his personal Savior. Because You are the only Hope for the world and if we would but recognize that and live like we believe it, what a world we would live in.
Lord, no matter what our political views, I pray that we, as a family of believers, would do what we are called to do and that is to pray without ceasing and to lift President Obama up to your throne of grace and let him know that you are there.
