Scripture Memory Competition Grand Prize Winner!

CALLING ALL SIESTAS: You don’t have to be part of our Siesta Summer Bible Study to memorize our Scripture segment for this summer. It’s Jude 1:24-25 because you and I want to make it through these three undisciplined months without falling on our behinds. By all means, everybody join us! And, trust me when I tell you, you SURE don’t have to be in the Bible study to get a kick out of the videos you’re about to see.

Speaking of which…

…Siestas, you nearly killed me. The videos were FANTASTIC! CREATIVE! FUNNY! To all those who submitted videos, you are the teacher’s pet! I have NEVER loved Siestaville more. You are the funniest people in the world. I have rocked back and forth, clapped my hands, slapped my knees, and over and over said, “Aren’t they DARLING???” Or, “Aren’t they willing????” I’m just crazy about you. Thank you so much for going to all the trouble to help your Siestas hide the Word of God in our hearts so that we might not sin against God. (Psalm 119:11) We want to seek You with all our hearts, O God. Do not let us stray from Your commands. (Psalm 119:10)

OK, here you have it: the grand prize winner of the 2008 Siesta Summer Bible Study Scripture Memory Competition!

That’s right. From Cool, California! And I know you think I was partial to them from the start because they had such a great city name but see for yourself. They did the work. And they can expect a care package in about a week from a very happy and grateful yours truly.

Here you also have the 1st Runner Up which I totally dug and these Siestas are from way outside the Bible belt. Way to go, Wyoming Siestas! Giddy up!

And, because I loved so many of them, I am going to post a different one every single week until the Bible study is over. That way you can 1) have creative and ongoing ways to practice your verse, and 2) see your Siestas’ handiwork. And know why I’m so in love with you right now. Again, these posts will be for all of Siestaville. You don’t have to be in the summer study to appreciate what you’re going to see.

Well. You danged well made my whole summer. And it started out a mighty painful one. May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ continue to make His Son the greatest joy in our whole worlds.

Because there ain’t no high like the Most High.

I love you. I really do.

BTW - I'm loving this bible study by Kelly. It's so convicting about the things in my life that are false gods/idols that I never stopped to think about. Great pick for the summer Mrs. Beth!

This was so cool!! Cool California you rock! I love the flip flop tapping, but my favorite was the middle Siesta who just couldn't get it together -- she's my very, very favorite. I love any sister who's just a bit different.
Y'all did great and Wyoming (which is the state i've always wanted to live in, don't ask why, I've never even been there) -- loved the flip book. So cute and creative.

My BFF Veronica (zioncalling) who will be coming with me to SA, gets all the credit for the flipbook. I am soooo excited that we got runner up. (Does that come with a prize too?) :)

I don't know what you mean, outside of the Bible belt. Here in our little neck of the woods, in Sheridan, we have the full armor of God on, not just the belt!! We love, loving Jesus!!

Thanks so much for posting these...what a FUN encouragement. I'm not in the Bible study, but I'm loving reading on line and watching what's going on. My dad is dieing from liver cancer, so I work all week, and go home every week-end to help my mom and he out (about an hour and 1/2 drive). SO, this is a "different" sort of season in life.

In so many ways (and you really have no idea!) this is such a great tool right now, when connecting with folks is hard because of the travel and time commitments...so GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
(and you crack me up!)

Miss Beth,
I'm blogging tonight to let you know that my 5 year old daughter has been "playing Beth Moore" since supper. She put on pants & a shirt with a jacket, dangling earrings, and high heels. Then, had me put her hair up with a clip. She has her Bible and is doing some teaching. What fun! I wish I could have gotten her picture before she changed. I am doing Stepping Up now and was at Deeper Still last weeekend. My husband is doing Stepping Up, also. So, she hears alot about Beth Moore. We TiVo Life Today on Wednesdasys, and she watched you with me this afternoon. So, I just wanted you to know what you mean to my family. You are an example to even little ladies of God. She's a Siesta in training. I pray that she'll love Jesus all her life and have an early personal experience with him. Thanks so much for being who you are. What a blessing to me! I have had a real time of personal renewal since starting Stepping Up. It's been a divine appointment for me. Sorry this has been long, but I couldn't let the night pass without sharing this with you. I feel like I know you and your family. You all mean so much to me. I saw Amanda at Deeper Still and had to practice self-control and not reach out and hug her sweet neck.
Loving you tonight and thanking God for you,
Mandy

Miss Beth,
I know how much you love us memorizing scripture so I had to share with you something that happens every year in our VBS. A precious lady, Miss Judy, who by the way is a Texan, does a VBS unlike any I've ever seen. It is The BEST VBS ever! Why? Because the main point is to memorize scripture. At the end of the week this year the children and adults had memorized 2891 verses. My little Grace memorized 56 verses in that one week. There is nothing like it when you see children hiding God's word in their heart! And they're all so excited doing it. They also get points for memorizing and reciting the books of the Bible, as well as the Ten Commandments. You, my friend, would have a BLAST! It's quite amazing.

Congrats to the winners in Cool, CA and you Siestas in Wyoming! Just shows it can be so fun to learn God's word!

Blessings,
Kimberly

Also realized today as I listened to my Ipod that Shane and Shane sang a version of our scripture verses on the "Glory Revealed" CD. The CD is soooo great...has many contemporary artists (Third Day's Mac Powell, Brian Littrell, Candi Pearson-Shelton and others) putting actual scripture verses to music. Can't get through it without bawling my eyes out over the beauty of THE WORD itself...and then.... to have it sung to me? Priceless!
Don't you just love His word Siestas?? Glory!!

Thanks Beth,

I hope this post does not go on here twice because I forgot to do the word verification the first time.

I needed a good laugh. The videos brought a real (not fake) smile to my face.I did not participate in the Bible study (I was tempted). I desperately need alone time with God on a very personal level to read my Bible and pray. I know the study provides that, I don't want to offend anyone, this is just one of those times. I am also in the middle of a move. I always used to be diligent (I have stepped back). I can't afford to do that with my past and I am getting back on track, I pray and know by faith. After that priority, I need to spend time on the homefront with my husband and children. I know that all of the siestas doing the study are becoming better disciples (and wives, mothers, friends, etc.) because of it!

About the videos....
I especially LOVED the cartoon one. That was SOOO creative and it made a strong point (the falling off the world cliff part and getting lifted up, etc.). I also loved the little disclaimer at the end, it was too cute. I loved the Jars of Clay song too. Redemption Songs is one of my top favorite CDs of all of my Christian music. Oh, I hope there is one from WV.

Okay, on another note, the food here in TX is insane. I am on Lipitor and I am afraid I won't be getting of it anytime soon (and I'm in my thirties) if I don't stay out of these restaurants here. We were in temp. living close to the city for a month. I went to Pappasito's, Pappadeux (sp?), some Brazilian Steakhouse, I can't remember the name, Amazon Grill, Marble Slab Creamery, I think that's the name, Ragin' Cajun', and I forget where else. My girlfriend from San Antonio (a true blue TX native) told me to go to Pappasito's. She knows that I am picky about my Mexican food. I about went wild. I hope that I did not make too much of a scene because I was running my mouth about the food (like I had never seen food) in between stuffing my face (my two, lovely children tell me that I make everyday a "hillbilly day"). Even today when I cut my jean shorts with a box cutter, that is pratical, not hillbilly. Katy can hold its own too. I went to Los Cucos (sp?) the other day and it was also delicious. Every place had great service too. I come from a long line of great cooks and when I say food is insane, then it is insanely good. I just want all you Texans to know that y'all have some of the best food I have ever tasted in my life here and I have tasted food in plenty of states. I keep telling my family and friends that if they don't visit for anything else, come for the food. Okay, enough of that now. Just wanted y'all to know.

Back to the videos, thanks again for making me laugh and praise at the same time. The CA. one was awesome too and I wonder, just like the other siesta, if the one who kept getting it backwards a lefty??? Let us know. I am also a lefty and everyone complains about my kitchen being backwards. The siestas doing the summer study are impacting me even though I am not doing the actual study. I am still listening.

Keep sending us the wonderful videos!!

Barbara from WV

Beth! Thank you so much for publishing all the videos! I knew they were going to be awesome! By the way. Lancaster PA is way behind Texas, girl. The article about "Big Hair" being "in" was in this Sundays paper--several weeks behind your paper! Guess you'll be wearing the big hair before we do.....somebody do a video of scripture memory with big hair? : ))

I was planning to enter the contest but did not get my act together. When I was in high school, my church singing group sang this verse. Its by Acappella and its called Now to Him. Its a beautiful song that has helped me hide this scripture in my heart for MANY years. I encourage you to locate the song on and download it!

Hope you and the family had a wonderful 4th of July! = )

So sweet and encouraging. I'm not able to participate in the study, but I sure do enjoy the updates. Thank you Beth, that we can still participate through the scripture memory.

Love to all,

Patticakes , that touched me - the image of Jesus in flip-flops. Thank you for that. He came as one of us and if He were here today , .. yes , I can visualize flip-flops. So like us, yet fully God. Oh to be able to wrap my mind around it.

Remember when flip flops were called thongs ... my daughter hushes me if I ever slip up and call the things by the wrong name.

XOXOXO to all of you . <><

This doesn't really have to do with scripture memory - but I just searched your whole blog looking for wedding photos, but couldn't find any?? Did I miss them or are there really not any posted?! I'm just curious, because I'd love to get to see them:)

Hey Siestas,
Just FYI, there is an awesome song of our verse on the CD "Glory Revealed: The Word of God in Worship." It is done by David Crowder and Shane & Shane. I have loved it for some time now and have memorized the verse from singing along. Enjoy!! PS the rest of the CD is awesome too! Love in Jesus, kim in PA

I absolutely loved these videos and I am sure I will get a kick out of those to come. I have to give my vote to the creativity of the runner up, it just was so incredible. How my Wyoming Siestas thought of each race and gender for gernerations and the creative storytelling, took my breath away. It also reminded me of something you would see on a childs educational program and I have to say, I always notice how the thought of children are so close to Jesus. Sensibly awe-inspiring.

You girls are such fun and you make a siesta proud. I so enjoy being in a community of Siestas who not only find the time but enjoy taking the time to go above and beyond for OUR LORD.
I am inspired.

God Bless You All

I just have to show the Jude 24-24 videos to my high school girls small group. They did their own creative version of that verse two weeks ago (I stole the idea from this site) and I think they'll love seeing the flip flops and flip book. They are a great bunch of teenagers and I just love them to pieces.

Lately the Lord has really convicted me of how important it is to hide His Holy Word in my heart. I will admit that I have fought waves of jealousy over this bible study, wishing I could participate and wishing I had a great group of seistas to meet every week.Thank you for letting those outside of this circle be apart of it still! I will commit to memorizing these scripture verses (and any more you share)along with so many other women across this great country! Thanks again Beth!

I know I already left a comment, but I just realized something and had to share. I have been picking out a Bible verse to memorize every week. This week I added on to last weeks verse-Hebrews 4:12-13,16. The verse from the summer bible study, goes along with my other verse. Both verses talk about the throne of God but from two different perspectives; me, as the one going to the throne to find grace and mercy(Hebrews), the other from Jesus, who presents me before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy(Jude). How cool is that? I think I get the message-I need to spend more time on my knees!
