What's Up for Summertime Study, Siestas??

Hey, Siestas!

It’s time to get ready for (drum roll, please) the 2nd Annual Siesta Summer Bible Study! Every woman is welcome! If you’ve already got a different Bible study scheduled for the summer with your friends or a group from your church or neighborhood, that’s fabulous. Go forth and do that thing!

For those of you not participating, it is important to know that we will not hog the blog all summer with this Bible study activity. It will only require a post or two every other week. We will have plenty of other things going for all our Siestas.

This opportunity is for the rest of us that either don’t yet have a plan to stay in the Word this summer or just think this sounds different and fun. And is it ever! We had a blast last summer. I really do think it was one of the most unique ways any of us has ever done Bible study. Our class was made up of single women, married women, widowed women, young women, not-nearly-as-young women, church-going women, not-yet-church going women, happy women, angry women, SAHMs, heads of corporations, and women all over the United States, many from Canada (yea, Canadian Siestas!!) and several other nations. It’s hard to find a class like that.

You interested? OK, so here are the answers to the most important questions. Unless you participated with us last year, the concept will not make sense until you’ve read all the instructions so hang in there till the very last word and I think you’ll get the idea. Here goes:

WHAT BIBLE STUDY ARE WE DOING? This summer’s Bible study selection is the workbook called:

Me, Myself and Lies by Jennifer Rothschild. (Due to our summer schedules and our every-other-week format, we will not add Jennifer's coinciding DVD sessions into our study. You, on the other hand, are welcome to purchase those and work them into your own personal or group experience. All we're requiring and officially working from in SSBS is the workbook.)

HOW LONG IS IT? Very good question! Jennifer’s study is a perfect 6-weeks long. Doable for the summer, don’t you think??

WHAT’S IT ABOUT? The basic premise of the study is to learn how to guard what we’re saying to ourselves and what we’re stuffing destructively into our minds. Hmmmm. I think I could use that. How about you?

WHEN DO WE START? Since Tuesday is LPM’s normal day for Bible study, we tend to be partial to it. We’ll launch our Siesta Summer Bible Study 2009 on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 then, in like fashion to last year, we will “meet” every other Tuesday from that point on until August 4th. (MORE ON HOW WE WILL MEET TOWARD THE END OF THIS POST.) We’re just talking about meeting four times here. Between those times we’ll each do two weeks of homework on our own. The assignments are not long and but they are packed with riches. I really do think we can work this format into even some of our busiest schedules, Siestas! And, boy, will our families and friends and work mates be glad we did! With all the relational demands and upside-down schedules of summer, this is no time to take off from the study of God’s Word. As I told you last summer, for me, 3 months out of Bible study is roughly 2 ½ months in the pit.

So, here’s the meeting schedule:
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 (1st Mini-Session/LAUNCH/Group instructions)

(DO WEEKS ONE AND TWO OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)

Tuesday, July 7, 2009 (2nd Mini-Session/Group Instructions)

(DO WEEKS THREE AND FOUR OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)

Tuesday, July 21, 2009 (3rd Mini-Session/Group Instructions)

(DO WEEKS FIVE AND SIX OF HOMEWORK ON YOUR OWN.)

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 (4th Mini-Session/Conclusion)

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET STARTED? 3 Very Important Things!
1. You will each need to get your own copy of the workbook “Me, Myself and Lies” by Jennifer Rothschild and have it well in your possession by the time we launch. (We aren’t able to get it for you through Living Proof but I wish we could.) Please don’t wait till the last minute to get it or you may not be able to start on time! If you have a LifeWay Christian Store, you should be able to find it on the shelf but the easiest way may be on line through the LifeWay Website. Here’s the link:
http://www.lifeway.com/e2/shop/?R=829882

2. You are strongly encouraged to pull together a small group if at all possible. You are MORE THAN WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE SOLO, but, for the sake of richest fellowship and best accountability, try as hard as you can to enlist three or four other women to meet with you every other Tuesday. It could be in one of your homes or in a Starbucks, for crying out loud. (You don’t have to wait until the evening to meet but keep in mind that the mini-sessions will not be posted until that morning. If you meet too early in the day, the video may not be on-line yet.) Four meetings this summer shouldn’t be too overwhelming and you can rotate houses if you like. Make sure that the women you invite to participate know that the gatherings will be low on stress and high on much needed fellowship and rich discussion.

If you want to work food into it, by all means do!! That’s what we did last year and it was so much fun. We will not post recipes this year because it’s not part of the original series as it was for “No Other Gods.” Keep the emphasis on a relaxed and refreshing atmosphere where you can develop some wonderful relationships in Christ. In this superficial culture that surrounds us, where friendship takes place through text message (I’m as guilty as anybody!), we have a huge deficit of pure depth in women’s relationships. Let’s make this real. The goal is to have those two weeks of Bible study finished each time you meet (after the launch) but the fellowship will still be worth your while if you couldn’t get all your homework accomplished. Let’s have lots of encouragement without loads of condemnation.

AN ALTERNATIVE: MEETING ON-LINE IN SMALL GROUPS. By far, the way to get the most out of this experience will be to form small groups in your area where you can get together face-to-face. However, if you try really hard and can’t make it happen, get a few women to meet with you on conference call or on line and work through the discussion questions together. It’s not ideal but it works and it is still more effective than going solo. Email worked quite successfully for several groups last summer. If you have no choice but to go solo, that’s fine, too. Just work extra hard to stay connected through the mini-sessions and through participating with feedback. Your Siesta Mama just wants the best for you.

3. Sign up ON LAUNCH DAY (not before and not today) and be so kind to give the biographical information we’ll request. (Questions like, Group or solo? If group, how many? Who’s the group comprised of? Where are you located?) This is one of the most fun parts. We get to see what our class looks like. THIS TIME I WILL ASK YOU TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. AT OUR FIRST GATHERING I’LL ASK YOU TO TAKE ONE PICTURE OF YOUR GROUP (or yourself if you go solo and if you look remarkably like Angelina Jolie, we’re going to get suspicious) AND SEND IT IN BY EMAIL OVER THE NEXT WEEK AND WE’LL TRY TO PUT IT TOGETHER A SLIDE SHOW. Wouldn’t it be fun to see what we look like?? Don’t do it yet. I’ll tell you when. MORE ON THAT LATER.

SO, BETH, CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT HOW IT WILL WORK? Sure!

On each of our meeting days (every other week starting Tuesday, June 23rd through Tuesday, August 4th), I will “facilitate” our summer study through a video mini-session about 15 minutes long. In it I’ll give you instructions for discussion questions or activities for your group meeting that day based on our previous two weeks of study. (THE VIDEOS ARE PITIFUL, ONE-TIME-TAKES, DONE IN-HOUSE WITHOUT PROFESSIONALS. AND IT’S PART OF WHAT MAKES IT FUN. LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS DRAMATICALLY. THEY’RE SO BAD THAT SOMETIMES SABRINA AND I GET SO TICKLED THAT WE CRY. BUT THE INFORMATION IS REAL AND THE STUDY IS SERIOUS BUSINESS.) You will then implement them into your gathering. If at all possible, try to watch them as a small group at the very beginning of your meeting time so that everybody’s on the same page. (Bar any unforeseen technical difficulties, I will make sure the post is up first thing on those Tuesday mornings.)

YOU’LL CHECK BACK IN EVERY SINGLE TIME WE “MEET” AND THIS IS HOW:
Your way of checking back in with me will be by telling me something about your gathering afterward in a comment to that same post. It will be left up all day Wednesday for your feedback. YOU WILL BE INSTRUCTED NOT TO LEAVE A COMMENT UNTIL AFTER YOUR SMALL GROUP MEETING. The comments are meant to be your feedback to the study. I’ll remind you of that each time.

It's going to be so much fun! And, at the top of our list of priorities, it's going to be a joy to God, attract His wonderful favor, bring Him some substantial glory, and help keep us out of the ditch.

REMEMBER, TODAY IS NOT SIGN-UP DAY. BUT, if you've already got a plan going for Bible study this summer, let's hear it! Let's have the entire population of Siestaville in the Word of God!

I dearly love you.

I love summertime, study and Siestas!

I've never really done a Bible study, but desperately need to, so I'm thinking that this will be really good for me...a way to connect with other women (my church has very few women my age to connect with). Thanks for offering this!

Oh Beth,
I am sooo excited. I am going to spear head a group from my church and we are going to meet at the coffee shop (and I can't even stand coffee). This schedule is perfect for my camp schedule. I can't wait to start recruiting. We may even have several groups going.
Thanks so much for your leadership. Oh, and I have to tell you I am loving the scripture memory team. I have lost 52 pounds this 7 months!! I am feeling great. So much more energy to serve my God. He is good all the time.
Looking forward to the summer!

My church is doing Esther on Tuesday evenings starting in july-and I would be there......but I work Tuesday evenings :( . Maybe this is the one i need to be taking? I did the No Other Gods last year and absolutely loved it- (that was when I lived in Nebraska and was selling my home. (my blog name was under tabby) --- now I'm in TEXAS!
I moved and am loving it close to family!

Beth,

I am planning on doing the summer siesta Bible study with you,but until that starts, I am reading through the books of the Bible that we will be studying this fall at Community Bible Study. I am also reading your books, Praying God's Word and Breaking Free as a part of my devotions in the morning. I also want to re-read Acts which is what we studied this year in CBS. I want to continue renewing my mind by keeping God's Word in my heart and on my mind. I can really tell a difference if I'm not doing a Bible study or reading the Bible consistently. I'm really looking forward to the summer study!

I am excited about this study. I plan to tell my Sunday School class about it in the morning. I already bought two of the books...one for me and one for a friend. Thank you for making the directions so clear and for helping keep us out of the pit!

On-line, it states that this this study has video lessons to go with the written book. Are Siestas not doing the video portions?

Texatheart! WAY TO GO, YOU DARLING THING!!! 52 pounds in 7 months! You've got to be kidding! And you feel like Scripture memory helped? I don't doubt it a bit! I wish now we would have kept a record of how many pounds were testified as lost in the Bible study "Breaking Free." It never dawned on me going into it that so many women would use it as part of a fitness program. Made me so happy. The power of God's Word! We should have added weight loss as a possible bonus for memorizing our verses!

And, as for you, Mandiegirl, I am so happy you are part of this blog community. Please do this summer study with us! Once you get a taste of in-depth Bible study and start experiencing the impact it can have on your personal life and the health of your soul, you will never want to turn back. You have no idea the pit most of us come from. Every conceivable background and stronghold.

Many of the women in this community have two things in common: we are in pursuit of Jesus Christ (or at least, in the meantime, intrigued with those who are) and we have experienced the transforming power of studying Scripture. This is life, little sister. Come join us.

Well, I actually started this study this past Tuesday. I am a small group discussion leader and you would all love my group. So, I will already have much of the study under my belt when we start online but I fully intend to study with all of you also. I'll just submit comments that were made in my group. I am so excited about all of this and didn't want to miss out on studying with you guys, too. Besides, I think that I can easily use double duty on this study which I am loving so far.

Rebecca said...

I will not be joining this year but had a blast last year, it was so good. The videos of you Beth were great and had some good helpful hints for the summer. I would sit upstairs and just laugh.
But I will be in the Word with you as a group of ladies will be meeting as I lead "To Live Is Christ". Looking forward to this as we learn about Paul. I will be checking the blog all summer, and will be checking out the videos for some hopefully summer hints.
In Him,
Rebecca

Sarah, that's a great question! I will add the answer back into the post. No, we don't require the videos sessions as part of the summer study so we can keep it somewhat abbreviated. HOWEVER, groups are welcome to add that terrific element to their meetings. They just might want to meet every week instead of every other week and go ahead and do the full scale experience.

For Siesta Summer Bible Study, the actual workbook is the only thing we're asking women to purchase. The workbook will also be the only part we'll refer to in our mini-sessions. Thanks for asking!

I'm emailing my girls right now! We're all feeling a little empty right now as our last study ended a few weeks back. How exciting to know that across the country (and even Canada) God's girls are coming together in the same study!

Mandiegirl, I'm so excited for you! I hope you have a wonderful experience and I pray that a passion for Bible study grows inside of you. I'll be praying for you.

Love you Siestas! I can't wait to come together with you before the Throne of Grace!

Hi Beth! My siestas here and I are so excited about this study.

We are three very different women who go to three different churches.

We met doing your Daniel study!

We have since met together when we can, usually in Panera! We fellowship and study together, and this study sounds like just what we need.

By the way, we call ourselves the BEE GEES! (No reference to the singing group!)

The BEE GEES are ready to jump in!

I can't wait to do this study with all my siesta friends! Last years NOG was a huge learning time for me and it gave me great food to use in my women's ministry.
On another note Beth, I have to ask a question about the downloadable ministers wives LPL. Would it be permissible to download this and show it to the pastor's wives in our church and a sister church? There are four - six of these ladies and we would like to do something for them - We have envisioned a day of pampering with mani-pedis, lunch, and this would be the icing on the cake. I see that it says for individual use but we would not be charging for this as it is a way to minister to these sisters. You don't have to post this comment - I just thought I would ask. You can reply to ginsamica@elmore.rr.com. Thanks for all you do for us siestas!

Morning Bethie....
I am going to be involved in a Monday night study at my church. We are doing the Esther study and I am so very excited! Little scared as they've asked me to lead a table this go round...I've only been at the church for a year and that is coming out of 15 years at my previous church...excited to serve but nervous about getting that "involved" again....much pain still from the previous church. Sad that I won't be a part of the Siesta Summer Bible Study but know that it will be wonderful for all involved! Will love checking out the videos anyway ;)

Oh Beth, the launch session is during the one week in the summer that I will not have computer access. (I will be at my Mother & Dad's house, cleaning out the 75 year-old family home in preparation to sell- sad time for us.) Will I be able to sign up the next week? I want to be a part! I am falling into the "out-of-Bible study" pit even as we blog!

Thanks,

This summer I decided to do another one of your studies (Esther) and decided to "go big or go home" so to speak. We put the info in the church bulletin and so far have 26 women signed up to meet on Tuesday evenings at our church. I am currently praying that God will raise up small group leaders from within the group to facilitate discussion. We have women from all ages (some of my h.s. youth group girls and some women who are retired) and all walks of life. I've really been praying that God would open each heart to what He wants us each to specifically learn for our own walks with Him. I'm excited!!

This summer, myself and two of my coworkers are studying "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn. It is my hope and prayer that the study will be a success and that we will be able to start an office-wide bible study in the fall. This is my test to see how well it goes and figure out what I need to do differently before opening up a study to the entire company (around 500 people!).

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED NOGS last summer and can't wait till this summer. Me and my sister (a fellow Texan)did it last year via phone, text, email and we loved doing it together even though we live miles apart. We started talking about a summer bible study again back in March so we are thrilled that it's becoming a tradition in Siestaville! Thanks Beth and LPM for all you do to keep us girls grounded in God's Word and in ever present before His throne! We love you guys and will be signing up on our launch day!

P.S. The picture thing scares me a little but I'll just have to deal with it! My sister has always been more photogenic but those are issues we'll save for another study! LOL

Blessings and love,
Theresa

Dear Beth,
I know you will understand when I say I am a woman with many close friends at church, friendships at work, a wonderful husband and daughter BUT I cannot tell you how lifechanging meeting my cyberspace friends last summer doing NOGS with " Siestas for Him" was. The ones of us that are still on the forum feel without a doubt that GOD brought us together FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS. We have studied LIVING FREE,ESTHER, and are currently finishing CRAZY LOVE by Francis Chan. We have encouraged each other through illness, divorce, lonliness, and joy. We LOVE Jesus, each other, and you! On June 25th six of us will get a chance to spend three days together in Pigeon Forge Tenn. We cannot wait and if it wasn't for your summer Bible study last June , we would not even KNOW each other. Plenty of room for you Beth if you can make it!!!
Thanks for your faithfulness in teaching God's Word. I'll see you in Houston in January.
Love, Linda
PS Will you be wearing your BIBBY LETTUCE costume in the homemade videos?

I have the book already because last year they sold out before I could get it. I'm excited. Maybe alone, maybe with a few friends. Not sure yet, but I'll be there. The six weeks coincides with six weeks of radiation treatments for my mom's breast cancer. I'll be driving her every day, and I think I'll enjoy a little "perk" along the way. Praise the Lord, she is doing okay at 84, and she should get along okay with these too. Hugs! Gayla

Two siestas on caravan to Alaska in RV's with two husbands in tow, do you think we can manage it? I'm concerned that we may not be within Wi-Fi range on some of the Tuesdays. We leave for our once-in-a-lifetime trip on June 20th. We are gone the exact 6 weeks of the study, so this will be perfect for us! So that way we could be connected "in spirit" with the siesta study and in the flesh when we are in Wi-Fi range and not out in the boonies on the Al-Can. We will go to Lifeway store near Brea Golden Gate Seminary and pick up the workbook and give it a try if it's okay that we may miss a Tuesday check-in. Any siesta's interested in joining our caravan to Alaska in RV's with husbands in tow? (Actually, I'm saying that tongue in cheek, our husbands are chief navigators, drivers and the trail bosses.) LOL!
Thanks so much for offering this wonderful study, Beth.

Hi Beth!
I am SO excited! I was cleaning my kitchen and it came to me that my group is coming close to wrapping up the Esther study and we are so into it I haven't even begun to think about what next! I was thinking/praying in my head for some ideas, opened my computer and saw your post! Providence! I got so excited about this summer study I was giddy! :) We meet on Thursday nights and have been for years, so I hate to change it... Will we be able to watch the video post on Thursday instead? Or is it only available 1 day?
Thank you, thank you, thank you for encouraging us in the Lord!

Beth,
Thanks for leading this study online, that is a very cool way to have e-bible study.
I would like to do it. I just hesitate to look for other people to do it with because I have been struggling with depression and I know how it hits me. I would not want to get in the middle of organizing it when I feel good and then not want to be around anyone when I'm depressed.

Most of our home groups shut down for the summer. Our adult ed. ministry will hold a bible study one night a week to try to keep people engaged in the Word. We will have a different teacher and topic each week, stand-alone studies to encourage people to come when they can without having to commit to every week.

I would love to join this, but I just signed up for another summer bible study on Tuesdays. It's by the same author, but it's "Fingerprints of God". Maybe next summer. I don't know if I would be able to fit in both. We have just been approved to be foster parents, so I think I'm in for a very busy summer. I hope everyone has a great time with the study though!!!

The Journey Continues ~

What a nice way to begin the summer!
I completed the Esther study ALONE in November
(did it in 10 days) and then the Lord put on my heart to find a ladies study and that I did. FBC in SLO was just starting Esther. I studied Esther again with a wonderful group of about 30 ladies plus 1 little 4 year old!
I want to send you a photo of precious little Holly (4 yrs) ~ who wore her queen Esther crown each week of a bible study I attended. She came with her mommy and on the first day meeting her, I asked her what was inside her little pink backpack. She didn't make a peep but reached inside and placed the most precious little crown on top of her head. She brought and wore it every single week! Holly is VERY SHY and I looked forward to seeing her each week of the Esther study! She will just bring tears to your eyes!! ADORABLE LITTLE TOE HEAD!!
It is always difficult to end such a great study with you and other beautiful ladies BUT NOW
I am excited that I will be able to study with you over the summer~!
Do you twitter yet? I can hardly believe that I have become a twitter/facebook nerd!
I Blame it all on Travis!!!
Now I have to read what he is up to! Tell him it's his fault if I have to go into twitter therapy! LOL :)

talk Soon!

After that (and during that), I am studying the book of Colossians because I will be teaching several lessons from it to our women's group, Ignite(Jer 20:9), at church in the fall. Our theme is "Going Deeper" - and we're having lessons on things like Going Deeper in Truth, Going Deeper in Purity, Going Deeper in Forgiveness, Going Deeper in Prayer, and more!

Well I have got to say that I am torn. I am currently working on the study Conversation Peace, but I also have the book for this one. So I am thinking I will do both at the same time. Our church is also running a summer study, but I was not planning on doing that one because my two oldest daughters are working at a camp and the men in my house have a study the same night, so I have no one to stay with my youngest. (Is it alright for the pastors wife not to do the church one. Oh well, I guess I will find out.) Also,I was thinking about going solo, but after this post I am definitely rethinking this issue. All that to say I hope I can work it all out. I just have pray and think on it a might and see how it all turns out. It sound so exciting. Kim B. in AZ

I have my MML workbook and am ready to go on our SSBS! I'll be doing it solo again this summer along with doing "Why Godly People..." with a friend's church group.

I now have a beautiful 'lil bit of Heaven' area in our new backyard under a fabulous oak tree that my man landscaped for me for Mother's day. The tree is in the very corner of our yard (barely on our property line!)& is what sold us on the lot. It reminds me so much of the mighty oak of a man that my dear Daddy was. I love sitting under it while working on our studies. Can't wait to get started!!

Thanks, Bible Bibby for doing this study with us! You're awesome!

Happy Summer to all you Siestas!

I am so excited to be doing this summer bible study again with everyone on here. Last year we were the Wives of the warriors, sadly due to the fact that we were mostly military wives, all but 2 of our group has moved!:( . So we are pulling together a new group of girls! I meet these girls this past fall in our Esther bible study at church. We are excited to start meeting together this summer!
I LOVED the videos you posted last year ! They were awesome! Don't change a thing!

Beth,

I have been waiting to hear when the study would start!! We have a very large group that will participate in this study but we will begin on June 18th!!! I had to book our room at the church so we would be assured of the space. There looks to be about 60 to 80 of us meeting and I am beside myself with what God is doing in the lives of the women in our area. We are doing a pot luck dinner every other Thursday night. We will have rich discussion and alot of girl time. As you said... low on stress. I have asked the women in our group to bring friends who would not ordinarily participate in a study because this Summer Siesta "thang" is so much fun and not to intense for newcomers. I did this in my home last summer and had 18 women...all ages. Word got around how much fun we had and I just couldn't exclude women who need the fellowship so desperately.

Anyway can we PLEASE participate even though we will be a week behind??? We will end up only 2 days behind you...I think. We are meeting 5 times on Thursday evenings beginning June 18th (intro) and ending August 6th. I will be sure and take pictures for you and the women will think its so cool to participate with other women around the country and possibly around the world. Please let me know!! (Like I'm all you have to think about. hahahaha!!)

Your a rock star and I love you!! Thanks for doing this for us....we need it.

On the way home from the Minister's Wives LPL in Nashville in March, our group of Pastor's Wives decided to do "Esther" together this summer. Our first study together as a group! So we will be participating in that together. I wish I could handle two studies at once, because I would love to do this too!!

But, one question. . . can you leave the posts up until FRIDAY??? We can't meet until Thursday nights (so we will do the Tuesday info on Thursday) and I'd like to be able to post. . . Just an idea. . . Would love to meet on Tuesday but that excludes some of our siestas!

I can't wait until we start!!! I did NOGS solo just b/c my schedule was so crazy, but am hoping to get a group together this summer! Will be flying home late on the 23rd -- so probably won't be able to comment until the next day.

Beth -- I cannot tell you how much the scripture memory has meant to me. The LORD has brought to mind my memory verses to encourage me, for me to use to encourage others and to use while praying. I have loved the LORD for years, love being in His Word and have randomly memorized verses, but this is the first time I have done it consistently. Thank you so much for spurring us all on. YOU are a Rock Star!!!

I have my book and am ready to start! I will be facilitating "No Other Gods" for a group at my church this summer, and I'm also finishing up "Esther" with a girlfriend (we are on week 7). I find though, that I need one on one time to study the Word, so I'm going to do this one on my own. I am grateful for this wonderful blog community, and Beth--you are an amazing teacher. Thank you for so generously sharing your gifts.

Well, I'm experimenting with online fellowship a few different ways this summer. The two groups I facilitate during the school year have both wrapped up for the season, but we're going to stay connected by doing a book club (John Rosemond's "Parenting by The Book") and a Bible Study ("Proverbs: Ancient Wisdom for a Post Modern World). Beth, I'm taking my lead from you and Vicki Courtney, and I'm praying that God will take my feeble attempts and make them useful for his kingdom. Because of those two groups, and because I'll be traveling this summer, I'm going to do "Me, Myself..." by me and myself :-) I missed last year's and wanted to be sure to catch this one from the start - have my book already in hand. Can't wait till 6/23!

I don't know if I will be able to get a group together this year, everyone already has plans, gone for a chunk during the middle, or have family crisis in the works right now, so not sure if that part will happen... but count me in solo or group, doesn't matter to me! :)

This is what I need! i will be moving to a new town sometime this summer, and will dearly miss my group of Friday morning Bible study ladies. I'm so much better about staying in the Word when I'm held accountable in a "Bible study." My fear is that when I need God's Word the most (during the move) that I won't have the scheduled time and structure of a particular study, nor a new group of people to get together with. Likely I will have to do this solo, but I will still be getting into God's word and growing my brain and my relationship with my Creator.

Hi Miss Beth;
I have a quick question. How can I find a small online group to do this study with?

I am planted deep in Southern Indiana - in a small, rural town. The church I attend is few in numbers but large in heart. I have been doing your studies on my own - and they are excitingly fruitful as I get to do them at my own pace- however I do so desperately need Christian fellowship with other women- and the old goofs at my church are NOT on fire for the word. My other Christian friends have spiritual ADHD and have no desire to join me in a bible study. They haven't caught the FEVER yet :) I am not the most BOLD person ever- but I am asking if you knew of an online group that would adopt a lonely girl from Southern Indiana for this study?! I've already bought my book! I'm ready to go- I just have no 'group' to do this with.

Thanks!!!!

Count me in for this study! I had two other chances for study this summer and neither fit with my un-busy schedule. Go figure! I am one of those who NEEDS to be in an organized Bible Study to keep my momentum going. It can't start soon enough if you ask me.

I'm praying about asking some of my neighbors to join me for this. They're not believers, so I'm WAY freaked out by the thought of it. Will you pray God gives me the guts to invite them? Doing it with friends is a no-brainer and sounds super fun, but I feel like God is pushing me out of my comfort zone. Freaky.

A friend and I did the NOG study last year over the phone and loved it. We weren't on the same schedule with y'all so we never posted.

This summer I so desperately want to be a part of a face-to-face small group, but I'm pregnant with twins (due in Aug., preparing for July) and it would just be insane for me to organize and try to host it. If any of you live in Pasadena, CA, contact me! I would love to waddle over and be a part of your study....:)

Or maybe we could do an online group (meet in a chat room or facebook or Skype) for mothers who are about to pop or are to drained from breastfeeding and staying up all night to do Bible study any other way!

I want to share with you that my prayer partner was excited about doing Esther with me this summer and having a new baby by then(born a day after Annabeth) thought it would work out fine. Well this precious little baby was born with retinoblastoma and mommy and baby(and daddy when he can due to work) have spent much of their time in the hospital getting chemo treatments. So, we got her the Esther workbook and I took session 1 to her hospital room and we watched it there and by the grace of God's moving Hand in the situation my friend will still get to do the study! Already nurses and doctors are being exposed to Beth Moore's Bible study by just walking in the room and asking about it while we were watching the session!!! How cool is that God of ours?!!!

I loved last summers study. A new friend from the Esther study this spring is going to join me for SSBS this year and I am so excited. I am starting Kay Arthur's "Lord I Want to Know You" at church tomorrow.

I was asked about a month ago to lead a group of high school/college girls in the Esther study. I freaked out (not a common response for me ever) and I think I even scared the lady who asked me. When I got home I was so convicted this is what I should be doing. I have agreed to do it but it is way out of my comfort zone. All I can say is here I am Lord, send me!

Like my pastor has said more than once, "you're either about to go through a storm, in the middle of one, or coming out of it." Well, we're smack in the middle of a cat5 - if you put your ear up close to your computer screen, you may even be able to hear the waves crashing. I can't tell you how many times this past week I've replayed my Scripture memory verses over and over in my head or spoken them out loud. God's Word has been my comfort and my lifeline and overrides anything I think, see, or feel. I just needed to share. Thanks for listening.

I'm looking forward to studying with you, and hopefully meeting some of you in January.

This is for all who think they might have to go solo . . .

I can't wait for SSBS!
I went solo last year. (All my friends were already doing other studies.) But, I had a blast. I didn't feel solo at all - thanks to the "homemade" videos from Mama Siesta and all of the comments from other Siestas. It really was an odd thing to feel so connected and not have a group. I even think my friends were a little jealous that I was having so much fun.

I'm looking for a group this year but, if that doesn't happen, I'll fly solo again.

I wouldn't miss SSBS!
Thanks Mama Siesta!

The small group I study with every summer started Esther last week.

Have been looking forward to Siesta Summer Study since I missed out last summer. Have my book, ready to go.

I do have another siesta to study with but we will meet on Wed since Esther is on Tuesday.

Can't wait. Blessings abound!

Oh I loved the NOGS study!! Matter of fact Beth the chicken enchilada recipe has been a staple in our home!! My daughter plays for a travel softball team, and these are great for those nights we are on the run. We always make extra and freeze the rest.
And the cake recipe to die for! It has become a birthday favorite

I am sooooo looking forward to this study. I need it right now!
Those lies have been running in my head this week. Please keep me in prayer as God is calling me to some things.

Can't wait to start the summer with all the siestas!

Beth and the Siestas,
I am trying to get my family group's women to commit to this study. If they can't/won't, I'll be solo. However, I have unlimited long distance and a husband who could set up me and a few other siestas with technology to get e-meet. I'm so excited! Now that my husband lost his job, I need to figure out how to pay for the book. Hmmm ... that's going to require a lot of prayer and a miracle from God. But I'm believing God for it.
Peace,
Kim

Hey, hey, this sounds like fun....I like fun, it makes me smile.
I'm currently doing the Daniel Bible Study, but will be finished in about 2 weeks.

Are there any Siesta's in the Brentwood, Nashville, Franklin TN area that would like to be in a group? If so, say so through this blog. Maybe we can put one or two togheter.

Let me try this again. (I don't think my first post made it)

I am facilitating Esther beginning June 3rd at my church. But I had such a blast doing the siesta Bible study last year that I am going to attempt to do both. Two great ways to stay in The Word this summer! I can't wait! Good thing school is almost over!

What PERFECT timing... Was just out to dinner after church last night with some girlfriends, and we were bemoaning that our Believing God study that we are doing at church would be over soon, and the Womens' Ministries are taking the summer off from studies! This will be the perfect way to gather the gals and check in!

....and now that I know the secret cookie / brownie / extravaganza that you and Amanda were onto yesterday, I know we can lure some folks that way - and tag it with iced tea... : )

Yeah! Summer plans here we come!

I am very excited about doing this study this summer. However, I may have to go solo as most of my Bible Bunnies are to busy....:(
But I'm sure I will get a lot out of it by doing it by myself and online comments.
Looking forward to it!!!

Beth I'm so excited for the Summer time study! My name is Jennifer Ziegler and I just finished you're Esther Study at Lake Hills Church in Austin Texas. AMAZING!!! I found myself in the most "Esther like" situation while I was doing this study!! I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2004, and have battled anexity for the past 5years. I have since become involved with some grass-roots advocacy at the Texas State Capital on behalf of the Lone Star Chapter of the MS society. My friend Tracy and I (she was diagnosed in 1999 as well) have handled our advocacy efforts in a mannerly, sweet, intelligent and shrewd way! We're not political,...heck, I don't even read the newspaper! I'm NOT a public speaker...But we've been opening our "big mouths," and speaking face to face with Senators and House Representatives, the most powerful people in our Texas State government!!! The crazy thing is... They've been listening to us!!! God opened their ears to what we had to say! We got HB 2064 The Texas Insurance Risk Pool Bill passed! It helps people in our state afford insurance who have pre-existing conditions, and SB 802 Family Care Giver Bill! They both sit on Gov. Perry's desk right now!!! We bowed our heads EVERY morning and asked God to make this about him, and not about us....We did't ask for this, but God did...and all we did was say YES!!! Check out my bolg..."Esther's at the Texas State Capital!" Here's the address... www.jennyz-blogspot.blogspot.com
Thank you for all that you do! Your "Siesta in Christ!" Jenny Ziegler :)

Beth, this summer we're holding our first ever YOUNG women's Bible study at our church--for young women ages 15-23---and guess which study we're doing??? Me, Myself, and Lies! We're meeting weekly on Monday evening starting June 22 and I'm so excited to be facilitating this group (I don't fit into the age group of the young women myself). I so strongly believe that the high school/college years are critical in a woman's life. As I considered a study for this group over the past months, God kept laying one word, "lies," on my heart. So when I came across Jennifer's study, I knew it was the right one.

While we won't be able to meet on Tuesday evenings to view your clips, we will incorporate them into our study. And we'll definitely send you a picture of all the "young women" plus one not-so-young among these precious diamonds!

I am facilitating your study Beth, on Daniel next Sunday for the ladies in my church. It will take up the whole summer and believe me it is my biggest challenge. I am intimidated slightly by all of the material and learning, but I am also excited in what God is doing. Please pray for me and the 15-20 women who are brave by commiting their summer to this. I dearly love YOU and I am so thankful for you. God bless you.

My church is doing Believing God.It starts Tues. This is the first women's study we have done. Its been my desire to do a study for a long time but my church could not afford the kit. God answered my prayer and prompted someone to provide the leaders kit and a women's ministry speaker to lead us. I pray God will annoint this study and it will make a difference in my struggling church. I may personally do the summer siesta study also!! The Lords blessings to all.

I bought the mascara and wore it to church this morning. 10 minutes into the worship music my husband whispered "you look hot." He said it sort of smooth and gave me a wink. SERIOUSLY! In Church! I'll take it where ever I can get it...he hasn't said that in years! Could it be the mascara?
Love u girls!

Wow, it sounds right up my alley! Okay so I have to tell myself "one study at a time". Staring June 9th at church I'm going to be showing "Anointed, Transformed,& Redeemed" and going through the workbook study with the lovely ladies who share in the small group with me. I'm stubborn and refuse to juggle two studies at one time because I just don't want to get bits and pieces from each, but I want to completely soak in them one at a time, so I'll have to pick up the workbook to "Me, Myself & Lies" and do it on my own maybe in the late summer. Thank you for picking this study and introducing it to us because it will surly be a blessing.

Looking forward to this time with all the Siestas and what God is going to speak to us! Trying to get a few siestas in the Nashville area for a group and a few who are new to Bible Study!

Hi Beth.....this sounds like fun!! And perfect timing as I just finished 'Stepping Up' this past week. The womens Bible study at my church runs from September through May and takes a break over the summer because of vacations, kids home from school, etc. so I will probably be going solo. I know for myself though that the enemy does not go on vacation over the summer and I am much better equiped to fight him if I am studying Gods Word!!!
Also, Beth, I just want to tell you what a blessing the Scripture memory has been for me. I now have some amazing Truths taking the brain space previously occupied by lies and deception!! I would LOVE to be able to attend the big celebration in January but I am going to Guatemala on a mission trip in August and will not have enough money to do both. But I will be there in spirit!
Can't wait to get started on the new study...God bless!!

Thank you so much for all you do, Beth!

Hi Beth,
Was at Lifeway in Oxford Alabama a few weeks ago and saw the books and God layed it on my heart to purchase 4 of the workbooks. I am planning on doing the study but not sure who the other 3 ladies will be. But for now a friend and I are doing a four week study with Kay Arthur, (I think you know her LOL), LORD Teach me to Pray. In the second week and it is awesome. Should finish up just in time to start the summer Bible Study. Looking forward to it.

I'm so very excited and so very in need of this study!!! My group is small but my dearest friends on the planet these days. An eclectic group God ever put together in one place, that's for sure! We all hail from criss-cross the country (Tuscson, New England and Chicago)but as soon as we met each other we just KNEW we were going to be close sisters in the LORD. He obviously put us here together in this time, in this place for His purpose.

We are so excited to be doing this study together. We will definitely be deepening the bonds of our friendship, not to mention going deeper into the Word. Yay!!!

Wow. I'm clearly supposed to do this study. God began showing me something last week that he wants to deliver me from. I went to a conference this weekend where awesome prophetic words were spoken over my husband and me. This morning I read an on-line devotional that spoke directly to my issue. I was thinking God wanted me to do Breaking Free on my own. Now I see this summer study. OK God, I hear you. I'll be getting my workbook this week to be ready for June 23. I'm praying about whether God wants me to do it on my own or ask other ladies at church. God is so good to me! His love is amazing!

We are starting this Bible study this week at our church! This is the second summer our Women's Ministry has offered a summer Bible study. Last year a group of us that had just finished up Daniel wanted to keep going, so the Director of Women's Ministry pulled something together for us. It was so last minute we did not have much time to get the word out, and we had around 10 women.

This year we started registration on May 1st for a June 4th start date and so far we have 38 women registered with 5 "possibles"! It is amazing. This is the first time I have facilitated a Bible study and I'm a little nervous. I was hoping 10 women would sign up. Our WM director thought we would have around 20... and we have nearly double that! It really is a blessing to see how many women really are hungry to stay in the Word all year. Although I'm nervous, I can't wait! I have a feeling God is up to something big!

(I hope it's okay to say where we're meeting - it is First Baptist Church Concord, in Knoxville, TN. It's not too late to sign up if you are in the area and would like to join us. The information is on the website at www.fbconcord.org, click Connect, then Women's Ministry.)

Just starting Believing God! Just finishing week 1 and already amazed!! I'm doing this with a few other girls 25-35 range. It's awesome! I'm Believing God!!

Did Esther this spring with a mixed group of ladies from my church- ages 25-65 and all in different life stages. Life changing! And every session or day that matter, was exactly what we all needed! It was so God ordained for us to do it at that time! Everyone was ministered to personally and some marriages were too! Thank you for sharing what the Lord has spoken to you! We are all better for it and walking more closely and boldly with the Lord!!

Can't wait to share what all the Lord does now through Believing God!

This sounds like just what I need. I'm seriously considering doing this and offering it at our church. My issue is I tend to over commit and then regret it later. Just finished facilitating an Esther group and that #7 really hit me. Feeling over-responsible for the how. Logistics overwhelm me- where to meet, childcare or no childcare, trying to make everyone happy as far as the night and time etc... "I'm not responsible for other women's spiritual growth", repeat; I am not responsible.....pray that I will be decisive, and then leave the how up to the "One who knows how..."
