Just Taking A Little Walk
OK, so yesterday Melissa and I didn't get to take our traditional daily long-walk when she's home that always includes all manner of theological banter until way late in the afternoon. Big mistake. Border Collie's can't wait to get their daily exercise until 5:00 PM. By that time their obsessive compulsive disorder has overrun their people-pleasing demeanors and they are like walking a forty-pound squirrel on a leash while it's raining acorns. Star does just fine on a walk...unless there is one iota of external stimuli. Like a person walking by. Or a car passing. Or a bird tweeting. At which point, she begins her raw rendition of the canine spastic zigzag. I have never once said, "Heel!" to Star without prefacing it with, "Oh, no."
Just about the time the theological pot thickened and Melissa and I were perhaps taking ourselves a tad too seriously, Star needed to...well...you know. Not number one. "Hold up," I said to Melissa while I waited until Star made a deposit in at least four different spots including the sidewalk. So, I held tight to the leash while pulling the black plastic bag out of my back pocket with one hand. Yes, I am a rule keeper. Keith always has all sorts of ideas what to do with it besides bag it but I refuse to act like I'm listening to whose porch he wants to put it on and only on rarest occasion fail to stifle a grin. He's awful.
"OK, Honey, go ahead." So Melissa picked up the doctrinal treatment where she'd left off and we got back in step. Only it was admittedly a bit more awkward with the heavy black bag dangling in my right hand. And it was an eternity to the next trash bin. Then she saw it. Star, that is. A bald dude with kind of a paunchy stomach (I'm visual. I need you to picture it) who looked to be in his late thirties and like he may not have had a girlfriend since '73, walking some variety of a bull dog. No, not just walking. Training. He'd take about four steps then halt the dog and give it a treat. For crying out loud, man! Get on with it!
Then they got about five feet from us. It was more than Star could take. Off she went. Me behind her. Legs flying. Not hers. Bag now swinging. Jostling. Smacking me on right shoulder. Left shoulder. Upper arm. Lower arm. Trying to hit Star with bag. Miss dog. Spill part of bag.
By the time we recovered, Melissa could no longer remember what she was talking about. All she knew was that "something stinks."
I think it was me.

Hi Beth!
I was planning on coming to see you in Green Bay, WI at the end of August. I went in for my annual exam and found out I'm pregnant and due August 25. I'm embarassed (or not) to say that my initial reaction was one of distress. I put my hands on my cheeks and said, "Oh no, I was supposed to see Beth Moore August 28!"
I am slowly getting over the disappointment and preparing for my third child instead.
Love,
Lisa in RL, IL
All i ant to kmow what did the other dog do lol.Did you end your walk lol. Will i hope you all get your walk earler tomorrow.By the way didnt't you leave a dog home ,lol?I didnt hear you say you took both puppys for a walk.I need the lol, thanks , you know I just can picture you with the whole thing lol. God bless Victoria Reidsville nc
Ohh! NO! I think I told you, but it bears repeating...our good friend and college prof @ A&M always said "Train your border collie, before she trains you." Hee hee! Smart dogs with dumb behavior.
Ours would chase the water hose like nobody's business and herd the birds and squirrels in our yard. Once she caught a bird--and OH BOY! What a sound the party of birds at the funeral made!!
oh girl, I needed this laugh today. After a year long cold (yes, it has been a year long. It's at least four days along.) and my eldest child's first driving accident today, I need a smile. (actually, I am grateful because everyone involved was fine...other than scared half to death.) So I'll be laughing in between coughs, picturing a 40 pound squirrel, raining acorns, and you, dashing along the street with a "gift bag" bouncing along!
Lisa! I'm so happy about that baby! I am laughing that you found out about it while at an annual exam. I have an exam next week. Please. no surprises, Lord. I'm thrilled for you, Lisa. I love babies. If that darling thing should come late, come on and see us! I'll sit you right up front!
OK, this was so funny - I can just picture it.
I was reading all the other posts about getting new index cards and new pens. I LOVE getting new cards and new pens! But I have to confess something. I tore the top index card off 2 times before I was satisfied with the neatness of the scripture! How OCD is that? I think I need some help here...
Seeking Him,
Beth
I myself had to opt out of the next local Beth Moore conference because I didn't think my, by then two month old, would get the full experience.
It sounds to me as far as the poop and theological discussion goes... I have to say between bouts of laughter...I LOVE God's sense of humor!
Beth,
I think there is definitely a "subtle nuance" moment here - besides laughing with you...I promise...not AT you..:-)
I'm always listening on my ipod or reading church history, theology, doctrinal debates, statements etc.
Today listening to 4 wonderful, brilliant scholars defend with scripture I might add, their position on the state of Israel (all different positions)
I felt like the baggie of dog dung (as Keith Moore would call it :-)
Sometimes if it's a rib issue we can sling the baggy all over everyone and no one looks nice and if they do, they sure don't smell nice.
Sorry you got a bit smelly during your theological discussion. I would LOVE to hear what you were talking about and even risk Star dung just to listen in as two scholars talked it through in "truth and love".
Love and blessings,
Teri
Thank you for the chuckle today. I needed it.
Love the visual ~ Bent over double, Thanks!!!

Beth,
Hoo Wee! Sounds like some fun! I can completely relate. I have a 16 pound daschund that pulls like a pit bull. Look on the bright side . . . maybe you burned a few extra calories!
ROFL!!!!
Nana 2 four, I AM EXACTLY THE SAME WAY!
Oh Beth... I thought those things only happened to me and my Bella. I had just gotten a new car and was out at the dog park when my precious collie/shephard cross decides that she is going to roll is some "stinky stuff". She comes out covered in it!!! No way is this dog getting back in my car but how do I get her home??? In the end I took all the plastic bags I could find and covered her, only her little nose and eyes peeking out... you should of seen it. Everyone was laughing so hard. I rolled down the windows and got that stinky pooch home to have a date with the garden hose!
Love you much, siesta mama! We have a small group (only 4 of us, 1 of whom needs the Lord)starting Esther on Sunday night. So, so, so excited!!!
Can you hear me laughing my head off across the ocean!!!!!!!!!
I can sooo relate. I tried "walking" our Brittney once. Not a smart move. He walked me!! Actually he ran me and nearly pulled my arms out of the sockets. Those big running hunting dogs have no business being on leashes, I found out. They need to be free to run and sniff out those birds!!
Living in the country like we do, the doggie doo just stays on the ground. It is all our ground around here anyway so no bagging for me!!
Leah
Beth,
What a hoot, I would love to hear your neighbors talk about you all, bet you keep them in stiches.
I am so excited today because I have learned my first verse and it is nothing short of a GOD THING. He and I had a great talk about it this morning and after many attempts I feel like I have it. SHOUT some PRAISE - for HE is good.
Love,
Mary in Broken Arrow, OK
I'm right there with Teri! I'd LOVE to hear a theological conversation between Beth and Melissa.. and to see the Star antics, too.... icing on the cake!
Happy New Year, Beth!
Linda
hahahahaha! You are a riot!
Beth,
My first time posting on here besides adding my scripture to that awe inspiring list I've been reading thru. Anyway, thanks so much for the hilarious visual!! I'm visual, too, so really could picture it! We own a 90+ lb Rottie who hates squirrels and all things furry (like our 2 obnoxiously cute kittens), so I am fully able to envision being drug all around, up and down, legs akimbo, arms flailing while trying so hard NOT to "disturb and inappropriately distribute" the poop....HA! I'm not the only one! That is a relief! So thanks for the fun. :-) I needed it after a tiring, trifle annoying visit to a jam packed sea of humanity in Costco in Concord, CA...did I mention I had the hubby along plus the 2 kids?
Hope you make it thru the day smelling fabulous!
Love,
Melissa Giomi, in Concord, CA
That is soo funny!! I needed it after a crazy Friday that felt like a Monday and Friday all rolled into one! Wheww!! It was crazy!
Thanks for the laugh!
I hope you have a great weekend!!! Love you Mama Beth!
Nikki
Just so you know, there is a perfect "hot pink" pen for scripture writing and bible study, I am beside myself. They only carry it at Staples and it is for raising money for breast cancer. The outside is the prettiest pink and the ink is just so dang cute.
Also, you and this dog. I swear, ya'll should be a sitcom.
We sure need some good tv!
I am laughing so hard I'm crying! Happy New Year
Oh my goodness! I had the same sort of episode happen one day with me and my two boxers dogs one afternoon after I came home from work. They got excited at a neighbor and ended up dragging me across the yard. I was embarassed, but knew it would make a good blog post... much like yours did! Happy New Years to you and everyone at LPM!! :)
LOL! I am about to go on a journey to the parents house with 2 dogs, 3 cats...and the Christmas tree.(which I am about to take down)...
so I get this, I really do!
So what did that paunchy bald guy do to help? My guess...gave his dog another treat and watched you fly by?
:)
angie
Nana 2 Four and Beth, I knew I would be tempted to tear off a few sheets (oh, all right, more than a few). That's why I bought two spirals (okay, okay - three).
You know - I think the fact that we have blogs makes us enjoy life all the more. I mean, otherwise we might get testy at the inconveniences of life or when things don't go as planned. But now we can just say - "That will make a great blog post!" and laugh about it. :) Yes - I think blogs are a gift from God to help us view life in a lighter-less-serious manner. :)
Oh Beth that is lol funny! I have a cocker I am trying to train to heal... she knows her commands she is just stubborn & loves a good distraction.
If you have time you can check out her picture on my blog. I am just getting it started today so there is no post... only my header. I have entered the blogging world just because I can tell how much fun you guys are having!
His Little Lamb... too funny! I just arrived home from the car wash only to have my dog jump in my car.
Beth you are so funny!!
I can completely relate to your internal plea of for crying out loud man! Get on with it!!
I can safely I have been there a time or two.
And on a differnt note, I just want you to know what an amazing blessing it is reading through all those scriptures on the other post.
I was getting chills just reading and reading all these scriptures from all these different women from everywhere.
Thank You so much Beth for all that you do and who you are. God uses you in such incredible ways that you may not even know yourself.
I still remember the first tape I ever heard you speak from. You were talking about Moses and manna (what is it??!!) in the wilderness and the way you decsribed the tenderness and care of God was just amazing. It was almost ten years ago. I can't wait to hear your new version of A Woman's Heart when it comes out.
Blessings,
Michelle in Vermont
Beth -
I sure do love my cat! Can't wait for "The Inheritance". I was hoping for something to expand on your LPL San Antonio talk. Thanks for sharing the laughter!
Beth (Nana 2 Four) and Beth (Moore):
I can so relate...OCD. I have two spiral note cards packs that are NOT used but when everyone was talking about how "cute" their stuff was. I wanted, WANTED CUTE!
Today we made a trip out of town to get supplies and I dashed into Walgreens hoping for some CUTE.
Needless to say, it just wasn't there but I did come home with a purple index card case to place them in instead. Because, simply, I want cute. Purple is my favorite color and it's ROYALTY as we are royalty because of the blood of Jesus.
I got hurt this morning, the other one doesn't even have a clue and I know that is right where God wants me...humbled, and totally trusting Him to vindicate me. So as I read more of those 2400 plus scriptures...God sure spoke to me.
Love you all, and sorry this is long, Yolanda
Dear Beth, I just wanted to give God some praise here...I couldn't add this to the Scripture memory comment I left yesterday, so this seemed like the place to share this with you.
Yesterday was my 33rd Jesus birthday...great day to start out this new Jesus year with you and the Siestas! It was Jan. 1, 1976 and I was a scared 19 yr old college student who was lying in a hospital bed awaiting a very serious operation the following day. That night my non-churchgoing father asked me if we could pray and ask God to help me the next day. As he prayed a very simple prayer for me I suddenly became so convicted of my sinfulness before God. I had been doing some bad things while I was away at college, things like drugs and excessive drinking...things my father didn't know about. but my heavenly Father knew...so, after my father left I prayed again...but this time the Holy Spirit led me in the sinner's prayer...and I had never even heard of it before!
That one simple prayer from my father changed my whole life and I am so thankful! I just wanted you to know that I love the Lord and He has been faithful to me...33 years of ups and downs...but He has always been there!
Now I'm looking forward to another Jesus year!
How funny!
Congrats Lisa on the baby!! How wonderful!!
Just saw on the news that John Travolta and Kelly Preston's son died today. We need to pray for them and for their salvation!!
Love,

Beth,
I love that you're so human....I mean, I'm just saying....it tickles me to think about you being all "theological", just before you had a close encounter wtih poo. How funny is that? Thank you for just being "one of us". I love you all the more for it. And as far the new index cards and markers --- I RESISTED the urge to start over on mine after I messed up . . . that has to be a first for me. :-)
Love,
Susan

We have 3 dogs visiting. By the third day, we'd been to the vet twice, once for the 4 mo. old ingesting a sago seed (fortunately we saw her get it, and she's fine) and our springer unable to spring after another trip to the vet to discover that her back had been injured playing--(10 days of bed rest--yeah, that's happening) Today I took the biggest and the littlest for a walk, and I think about the time they go home, they'll have it figured out. Me on the other hand, may not make it.
Poor Melissa. I feel we've been shortchanged a little on saying anything of substance too, due to this chaos.
I think we'll build a kennel. Just a thought...Just writing to tell you hang in there and hope you and Melissa get in that special walk. It's always a treat to hear your stories!
Love, Annette
My middle son and his darling wife have a border collie - please don't let it be a substitute for grandchildren - but I digress. I laughed so hard at your post the tears just rolled down my cheeks. I can see Swaj (yes, that's jaws spelled backward - long story) in his herding mode, concentrating for all he's worth and his "parents" trying for all they're worth to get hold of the situation. Too funny!
That is a great story to start this year off. lol I am sorry to laugh but I could picture the whole thing. ;) Our Daisy loves to walk every morning and whines until she gets to and she loves to leave presents with our neighbors.
On another note, I am praying to be able to see you some time this year at an LPL event. I really need it, the praise, the Word and fellowship with my fellow siestas!
Have a great weekend!!
Love,
Patty
Oh my, TMI (Too Much Information)
but funny :)
ROFL! 1) the poop prats and 2) OCD (3 cards and 1.5 hours figuring out how to superimpose it on a picture on my desktop...I know it now because I've typed it about 25 times today alone)
Joyfully,
Lauri
cute!! that dog of yours, cute, she's part human too. What fun they are!
:-)
Alli
Hilarious, can you even imagine how hard the Father and Son were laughing? One minute incouraging thousands of women from all over the world to memorize scripture, the next running down the street with dog poop in a bag!! Oh Beth, we love you so!
Judy
Hi, We have a very elderly border collie who after 13 years still has OCD. She is getting feeble, but still has that "light" in her eyes. Does your border chase lint? Ours would herd anything that moved! I do love that breed though!
Frances
My kids want a border collie so bad! I don't know if the poo story helped or hurt their case :-)
How funny,
Traci
I love the trips into dogland with you. It makes me feel better about my days in dogland that don't always go as I would wish. Hope you had a nice hot shower before the post. Visuals are OK we don't need the aroma to "make it real"!
OMGolly you are just too funny! How I love you Miss Beth ... and where would we be without ya? Were it not for this crazy blog world, I would not have met some of my very best friends! And I truly, TRULY mean that!!! I love ya!
oh, the akward walk w/ the "BLACK BAG" I have been there while I was dog-sitting for a friend and I never knew just what to do with that bag. I mean, it's just akward....and I was embarassed for the dog that I was carrying his business. That's just not natural!
Well...at least ya'll got some quality time, even if it was interrupted.
Love ya'll & happy, happy New Year!
Ew! I used to want a dog. I don't think I want one anymore. By the way, I already have my verse memorized! Isn't that amazing. I've never been able to memorize that easily! Don't worry I'm still going over it regularly. And I will until it's time to memorize a new one on the fifteenth and of course still review. Anyway, I hope you smell better now!
Have mercy - laughing hysterically! Wondered what that smell was coming from your part of town . . . too funny. And yes, can so visualize everything you described.
Beth,
Thanks for the laugh! And that is why I tie "the bag" around the dog's neck. It's his responsibility to carry it home. :)
Blessings upon you today!
Jenny
I'm new to this blog, but boy what a blessing that I am now a part of it. That story is so great Beth and just reminds how "real" you are. Including your other post about getting your feelings hurt. I got mine hurt about 4 months ago and what you said really helped me. Thanks. And thanks for the scripture memory challenge. I have my first memorized and say it many times a day.
Committed to a Jesus year,
Tammy, Jacksonville, FL
Nana 2 four and Beth,
I'm so glad that I can come and confess my OCD tendencies as well. My spiral notecards are colored - starting with green. I ripped off the first note card because it was written in blue. I have a green pen and wanted to verse to be written in green ink!! :)
Much love,
Sharon - Charlotte, NC
Oh Beth...we just adopted a 10 week old border collie mix and I've had more encounters with poo in the past few days than I care to detail. ;)
Of course, none of them were in the midst of a deep theological discussion. I must be doing *something* wrong!!
hee.
This is the funniest thing! You've made me laugh myself into a coughing fit!! (How I love bronchitis..)
Love you ladies!
stephanie
Hi Beth,
Thanks for the laugh you are such a crack up and I love you for it. I felt like I was there with you!! I use to have a Border Collie and I know exactly what you mean about the spaztic way they need their excersize. Your life continues to be a complete blessing to my heart whether you are teaching God's word or just hanging out cooking (way to go on your Christmas dinner) or walking your dog, I always come away feeling loved and blessed by you. Thank you for who you are in Christ, and for your awesome sense of humor.
Love,
Debbie

Oh dear. Or is it oh doo?!
Beth,
All I can say is I LOVE YOUR STORIES! While I love your intellect and passion about studying the word, I am equally in love with your humor and love of life. I myself just this week did a really stupid thing by willingly bringing home a new puppy. I even begged for it. My husband said it was a bad idea, we had our hands full already, but NO, I DIDN'T LISTEN! I begged, pleaded, cried a little until he gave in. I had the darling thing less than 8 hours when I tried every way I could think of to convince the kids we should give it back. Didn't happen. So, if I should find myself in your shoes anytime soon, what I'll have to remember is DROP THE BAG!
Thanks so much for the laughs!

I am still stitting here chuckling. OUT LOUD mind you. I was so excited to find you HAVE A BLOG and it is REALLY YOU! Yes I to am an exlimation mark!!! in action.. GOD Bless and Happy New Year!!
I love my dogs, but sometimes...I love my cats more. Litter boxes...that's all I'm saying!!

That story is hilarious! Only, it's not a story, it's your life. :) ha ha ha I needed this good laugh. I was just telling a friend about the Marley & Me movie and how it ended so sad. Don't go see it....huge tears will flow.
Jean
That was hilarious! I must tell you 2 things...
1. Being one that is almost considered "late 30's" You are barely born in '73....never mind, now I get it***grin***
2. Target does not carry spiral bound index cards....I'm heading to the grocery store! Of all places..???
The Journey Continues ~
Beth ~ YOU CRACK ME UP!!!
I think all of us Siesta's are picturing the scene... LOL
" A man's harvest in life will depend entirely on what he sows"
No, you don't stink ~~~ You just bring us Siesta's and I am sure your family too, LOTS OF LAUGHING OUT LOUD ~
Be Joyful... without the bag!

Beth: I absolutely LOVE your stories and because I am so visual and you are so descriptive - it works!!!
That Melissa is one smart youngun. My son Jeremy and I have these theological discussions too, and every now and then he will "let me in" and give me a little crumb and say, "wow - Mom, good point," but that is ALL I get from the doctoral minister...but hey...I could squeeze him to pieces - and he is 27!!! I still get so excited when I happen to run into him in town at a restaurant or something and say "that's my boy!"
Speaking of stinkin', the air where I live is THICK today with the odor of chicken manure as Farmer Peake (across from our farm) has fertilized all 250 of his acres...
So something stinks here too - and it is NOT me :) But boy is is strong...so if it WAS me, I could blame it on the chicken manure :)
Love y'all
Georgia Jan
My word verification is gagging...not kidding...or is it tragging...whatever - it's hilarious -
Oh my mercy... the visual I have!
Note to self: Next time I walk my dog, bring twisty ties for the "goodie" bag!
Oh my gosh I'm laughing out loud! You said: "I waited until Star made a deposit in at least four different spots including the sidewalk." My six year old yellow Lab Shelby (looks just like Marley in the movie) does the exact same thing...my husband calls it the walk-around-Sally! This is what he says: "For cryin' out loud Shelby, do you HAVE TO DO the walk-around-Sally right NOW?"
Dogs. You gotta love 'em.
Beth, you bring so much joy to people! I get a blast, laughing reading the comments in this blog!! fun!!!!!!! WHOOHOO!
love, alli
Okay, I have to say this about the dog story - this is why some of us own cats! You scoop out the box every couple of days, and you're good to go.
On the other hand, my cat is hyperactive, feisty and loves to play "tag" so if you want to see a 33-year-old woman absolutely making a fool of herself, you can come to my house and watch me get chased all over the apartment by a seven-pound kitty. I don't know if I could live through that kind of enthusiasm from a forty-pound dog.
Anne
I am laughing out loud at that story! So sorry I missed the entertainment!
Blair
Enjoyed the laugh. Our walks are a litle different. Our baggy consists of more of the size of a grocery bag. My "Zoey" is a 135lb great dane. Needless to say, her "deposits" are a two hand job.
Hi Beth --- I so enjoyed the chuckle you gave me with this post. I needed to laugh badly, as I found out two days ago that my 5 year old granddaughter has been sexually molested. I used YOU as an example to my daughter of a life abused but used fully by God. Thank you so very much for sharing your personal journey so freely. It has helped this family come through some really hard days.
Jackie
Jackie, I am so sorry. I pray that Jesus will become her everything...not just in spite of what happened but strangely as a result. To be okay, people like her and me have to have JESUS. May Satan be sorry.
ok sweet Mama Beth I am trying hard to not laugh...but I am laughing so hard my sides hurt. You said to be visual and well all I can see is legs flying and was your hair all right after that and what did the guy and the other dog do? Now this is making it hard to focas on my memory verse.....sheesh.. I hope your walk goes better tomorrow.
love ya
Tammy S.
Hi Beth!
Thanks for that, it was a little humor for me after a bad evening. Please keep me and my family in prayer. Thanks.
I (unknowingly) stepped in dog poop on my way in to meet my future in-laws for the first time. Moments after shaking my hand, my father-in-law was rinsing my shoe in the utility sink while my mother-in-law was wiping the carpet, and I was trying to summon my secret powers to turn back time or invisible!
This is what I love about "Blogland"! You start out talking about walking dogs, deep theological discussions, dog doodoo, and segway into discussions of new babies coming, OCD note takers, spirituality, verse memorizations, etc. I feel like I am having a big tea party with all my girlfriends! The funny thing about it all is we all understand the conversations and keep right on moving! You are my type of women!
I had two border collies while growing up and loved them dearly. Unfortunately my boys are both highly allergic to dogs and cats. We have had to have pets such as goldfish, hamsters and snails. Yes, I said snails. They were just desperate for a pet! When the hampster died we buried it in the backyard and had a prayer service. We then went for a family walk and the boys wanted to dig it back up to see if God had taken him to heaven yet. I had to tell them that we would check on him after their nap. Needless to say I had to dig him up and bury him elsewhere before they woke up. I just loved their total trust that God was going to take their little friend to Heaven.
Sorry I really segwayed on that one!
Congratulations on your pregnancy Lisa. You will be in my prayers.
Thanks Beth for another wonderful uplifting blog. You always make me laugh. And about that "hurt" you were feeling around the holidays. I hate it when that happens! I hope that we can be there for you and each other at these times. As God would want us to be uplifting to each other.
Thanks to you all and Happy New Year! Lori
That is TOOOOO FUNNY! I'm a visual person too so to visualize this situation is hysterical! I'm so excited about having a Jesus year and memorizing scripture. That's always been a weak spot of mine. Thanks for the push Beth!
O.K.
So being the visual person I am and having one of those dogs who tends to act a little ADHD at times while on the leash(the good thing is she is about the size of a squirrel) that is way to funny. I have now had my ab workout for the day with a good laugh.
ps. Siestas just took a phone call from a family member. I have a cousin in Afghanistan who was injured by a land mine day before yesterday. Details are sketchy but he is alive. His name is Chris please keep he and his family in your prayers
It's a comfort to know I'm not the only one with a dog who has a mind of it's own! Thanks for sharing! They're still such blessings!
Oh Beth...I am so glad I don't have the only crazy dog out there!
Oh my goodness!! I needed a really good laugh today!
I am laughing so hard right know. I have a visual of all this in my mind. Beth all I can say is I know how you feel. I get pulled around like that almost all day long by dogs that weigh more thatn I do. I work in an animal clinic so I also wear alot of things too! Beth have you ever heard of a gentle leader? It is one of the greatest invention ever made. You might ask your vet about it.
Love and prayers,
Lynann
Ahhh...dogs!
From one rule keeper (or would that be drool-keeper??) to another!
Hugs,
Melinda
Oh my goodness, I totally know what you are talking about. My golden retriever had a similar moment (minus the bald guy) down I went. Bruised ego, I got up brushed off the scraped knees and proceeded to quickly walk home. What I didn't realize, until it was too late, the bag holding, well, you know what, tore during my fall. As I got closer to home, the smell got stronger -- let's just say it wasn't pretty!
Yet, I continue to walk this crazy mutt and even crazier, added a german shepherd to the mix. Guess I am a glutton for punishment! :o)
Despite it all, I love those 4-legged furry things!
Blessings,
Denise
Oh, how funny!! We have a lab/collie mix that weighs in at about 100 lbs. And, he won't be a year old until February! Needless to say, he walks us.
But, Praise the Lord, the walk wasn't boring!!
Blessings!
LOL!!!!!!!! That's to funny. You have no idea how much I needed that laugh today. Been in a major pity party today :-(
OK...too funny! Thanks for the visual. I only wish I could join you all on your theological walks. How fun must that be...seriously! I would love it!
We cannot have a dog because my dear husband is terribly allergic, even to hypoallegenic dogs. Grace wants one so bad. So, I went online and looked up hairless dogs. I found an American hairless terrior. It's acutally cute and gives us an option (hopefully) for a future pet!
Happy New Year to all!
Kimberly
I have been "house" sitting for the last year and a half for various houses. With almost every house/apartment/etc there are dogs/cats/both. My friends tell me that with the experiences I have had, I should write a book. I would have to change the pets and owners names to protect the embarassed. Maybe you should write a dog book, too, Beth.
SO hilarious!!! What is it with border collies?? We have 8 (that's not a typo - I do mean 8) dogs and the border collie (named Missy, short for Mischief) is the only one that does stuff like that.... Hope you are bubble-bathed back to normal :o)
Hugs,
Adrienne
Loved the story! we have a very spoiled untrained French Britney. He is by nature a bird dog and does not walk well on a leash! He loves walks though. We have to spell the word "walk" because if he hears someone say the word "walk" its all over! He goes crazy jumping and barking and running back and forth to the door until you take him out!
I had to smile, here is another New Years dog story or two; one was our daughter's dog was out doing her not number one at the peak of our daughter New Years Eve party. She found a skunk or the skunk found her and before my daughter realize the skunk situation she had opened the patio door and called for her dog to come in from the dark which she really wanted to do because deep down inside she is a people pleaser and was shocked at the skunk in the first place, so mid call her dog came flying indto the house an with it the whole skunk aroma, my daughter had at least 25 guest who were quick to groan and cover their mouths while a couple of the chaps pulled out their Iphones and google de-skunk smelling solutions; on face book people are teasing and saying her party stank, or they had stinking good time..
The same night our little poodle dropped her plastic up stairs water dish down the stairs came down after it picked it up and took it to my husband with brown eyes pleading for a drink; our son and his wife own a labradoodle who we were watching while they were at my daughters stinking party and the bigger dog had drained all the water dishes in the house... we had to smile at that one.

Beth:
As usual this story is so funny. I just love to read them. My two oldest children had a dog encounter today with our Aussie. They decided they would take her for a walk about a mile from home. What you need to know is that she gets car sick very easily. So why they decided to drive her some where to walk in beyond my understanding. Well anyway after there walk ( yes she got car sick on the way but they got her out in time.)on there way home my petite 18 yr old daughter claimed her right to drive home. (Now you have to visualize this.) My 19yr old 6'1" son was sitting in the passenger seat of a dodge caravan with the dog that gets car sick between his legs. He was paranoid all the way home. The girl child told him not to worry unless Chocolate started licking frantically. Sooooo everytime that poor dog so much as move her tongue my son was freaking out and saying she was going to...well I am sure you could guess what. They did make it home ok but my daughter could not help giving her bro a hard time.

Beth,
Ya'll crack me up! Yes, I am from the south and thankfully our dogs clean up their own doo in the woods! Won't catch me with a black bag!
By the way, how do ya'll get your pictures on this thingy ya'll all look so cute!
One more thing I used to go to church with Travis and Angela way back before they were even Travis and Angela and loved worshiping with them.

Sounds like an episode of the Dog Whisperer (Caesar Milan) show!!! LOL--You know I have never met anyone who could tell such a visual story that even I could smell something that stinks!!! LOL

Jackie,
I'm praying too for Satan to be sorry for this one. May you summon strength from the One and Only to comfort your granddaughter and all those that love her.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:3-7 (ESV)
God bless you,
Lauri
Absolutely too funny! I'm also a very visual person and I can "see" this all playing out! :)
blessings Beth!

I'm sorry, I can't stop laughing. Isn't that the way life is sometimes?
Oh Beth, you made me smile with your story. I'm not a dog walker (not patient enough); I make our dogs go out in our fenced backyard, but I have a lot of neighbors who do. They stop their dogs along our fence to greet our dogs. :) Happy New Year to you and your family!
AWESOME RECIPE ALERT MELISSA
Iced French Coffee (wanted to do this before New Year's, but I could not find it).
1 gallon whole milk
4 pints heavy whipping cream-NOT 1/2 and 1/2 or anything else light.
8 tsp. vanilla
6 c. sugar
12 c. (measuring cups) brewed cooled (a little strong) coffee
Make coffee and put in large mixing bowl. Dissolve sugar, like when you are making sweet tea. Add the rest of the ingredients, stir and freeze. Take out a couple of hours before you want to drink it. I put mine in tupperware to freeze.
NOTE:THIS IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE AND SHOULD BE OUTLAWED! It takes a long time to freeze solid. I like mine slushy but sometimes I have just made it and chilled it. It is just however you like it, no rules. Also, this recipe makes A LOT, so, if you are just making it for yourself, my suggestion is to cut it in half (putting it in the freezer does not keep one from drinking it, it is like freezing Girl Scout cookies, does not work). This recipe makes enough to take to functions, such as bridal/baby showers, when you are entertaining, etc. You will be the belle of the ball. Seriously, I'm not a coffe drinker, but this stuff is good, just look at the ingredients. It is better than Starbucks Frappachino and if that's what you drink in the morning, you'll save yourself some money. I guess if vanilla is your fav. (it is mine). I guess you could always add some choc. syrup or something if you like the mocha..I've never tried that. Anyway, I've been wanting to post this recipe, but I have not had the chance.
Beth, that story is so hilarious. I cracked up and I needed it! I took down my tree today and I am still surrounded by ornaments, doing the tedious job of putting them back in the boxes. I'm a little OCD with it. I have to have the ribbons straight, etc. so I make it really miserable on myself. Yes, I know about how great the ornament boxes from Lowe's are, but my boxes are signed and I cannot get rid of them. We are all addicted to ornaments, so this is no small feet. I still have a couple of hours left to go.
The response to the Scripture memory is so amazing, God definitely has his hand on this and is smiling on this! My girl Rachel ended up participating. That is, Rachel M. from Hurricane, WV---best friend. I'm sooo happy. Now, we can talk on the phone and help each other out. I'm really bad at this, but I have been reciting my verse constantly.
Also, the cheesy picture is me pointing out my "Siesta Scripture Memory Verse Book," and the words showed up on the camera, but not on the blog. Oh well, I'm a dork and I'm not changing it until next December. Okay, back to boxes.
Love all you sistah's!!!
Thanks for sharing!! I needed the laugh!!
Jackie,
I am so, so sorry about your granddaughter...precious angel! I will pray. I know what she is going thru from personal experience and my heart broke as I read your post. It has comforted me so much to understand that the Lord knows, He saw, He wept over what happened to her and has her tightly in His arms. Praise Him that she has you!!!
Hold tightly to Him,
Melissa, in Concord, CA
Nana 2 four and Beth, just read your comments and I am learning to use white-out. My stomach just sank. I hate to. My OCD with stuff like that is bad and I have wasted so much paper that I am hurting the enviornment! I feel your pain.
Nana 2 four...type it, print it, and glue it on the index card!! and if for some reason you loose your cards, you'll have them saved on your computer!! ..and someone else will be blessed with your old cards!! ;0)
nothing wrong with a lil' OCD!
Beth -
You CRACK ME UP!!!! I just chuckled as I read about your "outing." I think the bag jostling back and forth ON me would have been just TOO much!!! One question. Did you pick up the stinky "treasures" that fell back out of the bag????? :) (grin) Shew - what a walk!!
Hoping your next walk is a little less adventurous,
Karen

I love the fact that you are so real. We sometimes tend to put on that pedstal, but you won't let us. You have to deal with "crap" just like the rest of us!
Monday night - the kickoff to the Esther study at our church which I'm leading. I watched One Night with the King to get some visuals. I've learned so much from just your introduction! Thank you.
Oh Beth,
I can see you now.....what a hoot!
That's why we love you....sharing these stories......
Do your neighbors know who you are?
Happy New Year....
Beth, I feel your "pet" angst! My loveable lab, Bo, has yet to meet a mailbox, dog or fellow walker whom he doesn't love. I have recently lost 40 pounds. While doing my walk/intermittent run this summer with Bo, he took off rather unexpectedly downhill and my already loose pants began to slip. I was being pulled by a 105 pound lab on a retractable leash, shouting "Heel Bo! Heel!", and trying to keep my pants up. Needless to say, my neighbors had quite a laugh and I purchased new pants (a smaller size) that very afternoon. When walking with Bo, I have to keep a clear head. I have tried to listen to your podcasts on my IPOD while walking, but it has proved to be nearly deadly. I get caught up in what you are saying and, heaven help me, if Bo's attention is abruptly snagged by a squirrel- I am a gonner! Walking with a furry child is an adventure - for sure!
: )
Thanks Beth... I needed a good laugh...sorry it was at your expense! I am a rule follower and visual person too... with an unruly dog... it wasn't too hard to imagine! =) I am sure you are smelling like roses now!
ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha- oh my, ha-ha-ha
I know what you mean about a dog not getting walked at their needed time of day. That was a perfect description of my dog....except a 60lb squerrel on a leash while raining acorns.
The love we have for our dogs!

Jackie, I'm praying for your granddaughter and your whole family. What devastating, heart-wrenching news. Beth said it well: may Satan be sorry... and may Jesus be fully glorified and redeem it all.

Lol! I feel your pain, Beth! I have a beautiful retriever mix who was a "willful child" for 14 years. Then last year we got attacked by a neighbor's dog, and since then she doesn't leave my side (and still isn't crazy about leaving the yard). But almost 15 now, she's still the sweetest pup you'd ever want.
Thanks for sharing,

Beth!!!! I thought you said, Melissa had to go, and that you had Melissa's potty!!! I thought, surely Melissa wouldn't want you to tell all of us. (I know we are family, but this is a little personal!) Then, I re-read and whew.. I'm so glad to know you only have sweet puppy poo on you and not "someone" elses. wink wink. (I think I need to slow down when I read from now on)
Love you, Jacquelyn in S.D
Dear Jackie - we siestas join Beth in prayer for your family and your dear grandaughter - I am so sorry. As Beth said, "May Satan be sorry."
That had to be the funniest thing I have ever read! I laughed until I cried! I am at home tonight by myself (husband and children are watching the Sugar Bowl with some friends). I am watching "One Night with the King" (the Esther movie). I can't help myself. I am doing your new Bible study and I Love it! Esther has always intrigued me. Thank you for writing it for all of us!

So glad you all are dog people. My daughter and her 3 dogs still live at home. Seven weeks ago I was awakened at 5:00am to the sound of two of the dogs fighting. I tried to separate them and got a very serious bite on my finger (partial amputation which could be repaired and broken bone). I was AMAZED at the people who said "You got rid of the dog didn't you?"
Of COURSE I DIDN'T. It was not the dog's fault, it was mine for putting my hand in the way when she was trying to defend herself. She still sleeps in the bed with us.
LOVE the pictures your words paint.
kiss the pups for me.
Love, LINDA
I think I know Star's excitedness sounds like my beagle! And now I have a Heeler to walk too! With the 2 of them it gets pretty interesting! But I can't say I have gotten as dirty as you did :D
I think My husband has had some of Keith's ideas too! But I too am a rule follower ;)
Ewww! I'm so sorry...you poor thing!
Nothing keeps me remembering my own humanity like my pet! We have a cat that chews on everything from my [brand new, I might add] leather handbag to our clothes to the cords on our electronics. It's almost comical. My husband has fixed the laptop battery cord, a lamp, and our surround sound speakers, so there's black tape on them all...lol! I don't love that cat this much, I'm telling you, I don't... I am SO learning patience and perseverance.
Hi Beth, this is my first visit to your blog, and what a treat!! I have to tell ya, laughing that hard isn't good when you have a sinus infection, and even your teeth hurt!!! Ouchie..But it brought back fond memories of my dear red border collie who had some chow in him. He was great in his day!!! We have pugs now. Walking is their bag, but chasing squirrels, well that gives them all the exercise they need!!! Blessings,
Bevie
Only Christian Sisters can take a story like this one, laugh and put some sharing inside of it and then to read Jackie's comment and yours, Beth. I am tearing up--yes, may Satan be sorry. Praying for your family, Jackie, 'cause I love you Sister much in Christ. Praying for that young 'un. Jesus come soon.
Beth- That was just funny! I am not sure which part was funnier the bald dude or visualizing you being pulled by Star.
Lisa- Congrats on finding out that you are expecting #3. I found out earlier this year that I am expecting #3 and it was unexpected news. I went to the dr because of stomach pains and came home to tell my hubby I was pregnant. He said well that explains the stomach pains LOL!
However, I am trying to convince myself it will work taking a 3 month old in Sept to Deeper Still in Orlando. Someone tell me I am right :)

Hi, Beth
I just found out about this blog tonight. I haven't really ever done this but, I am excited.
I went for a walk today and it was freezing and windy, it would have been great to have seen you running down the rode behind your dog.
I just got done reading Get out of that pit and I want to say Thank you for all you do. It opened my eyes to see that I was in a pit and I never want to be in one again. Gods timing is awesome.

No one knows the hilarity of your story unless you have walked a dog with a pooper scooper bag. I didn't realize how much I would miss my dog BO until he was gone. He was always happy to see me, was happy to walk anytime I wanted to walk, and he listened as I walked and talked to the Lord. Dogs are a woman's best friend and they can teach you a lot about unconditional love.
Oh Beth - you CRACK ME UP!!! I tried to read it to my husband and ended up laughing so hard, I think he thought we were both crazy!
Beth,
We love you and thank God for you everyday!

Hey Beth,
That is the funniest story..I am sitting here in my chair laughing hysterically while my family looks at me like I am crazy. My daughter says, "Are you reading Beth's blog again?" Thanks for the laugh!

Oh my goodness... Crack me up! Too funny.
I think you need the dog whisperer. (GRIN)
BTW, My man & boy are doing well and joyfully serving the Lord with enthusiasm in India. :o)
Thanks for the prayers.

Hi, Beth
I am the same way about pens, journals, any type of office supplies. I've got one journal I use to take notes at church and it has a special pen, my personal journal has a special pen, my prayer journal has a special pen--I think you get my drift. If what I've written doesn't look quite right, I'll tear the page out and re-write it. Is that OCD, or what?
I can just imagine the scene with your dog. I've got a beagle that loves to go (we have to spell go and walk). When I put my walking shoes on she gets so excited she shakes, jumps, barks, howls...I wish you could see it. She is such a comical little dog, but soooo sweet. I saw "Marley and Me"--it's so good, and yes, I cried like a baby. I told my friend that I forgot my kleenex, she said to get extra napkins-I used every one of them.
Lisa, congratulations on your pregnancy--may God bless you during this special time and may God bless this special child.
We have a group in our church that will be starting "Esther" Sunday night, but I won't get to be a part of it due to a prior commitment. I'll catch it the next time it's done. However, on Wednesday nights, I'll be teaching a New Christians class for children. I'm so excited-I can hardly wait!
Blessings to all you wonderful siestas--I'm so glad to be a part of you
Sheri
"A bald dude with kind of a paunchy stomach (I'm visual. I need you to picture it) who looked to be in his late thirties and like he may not have had a girlfriend since '73"
=( i know i wasn't there, but surely looks shouldn't be the biggest qualifier for deserving a girlfriend or boyfriend.
That's funny kinda reminds me of a similiar story except the dog did I say( pit bull)and fightin roosters were chasing me! Well I about died and yes you know did the number 2! I work home-health which I love!:) you should pray for me from time to time and you wouldn't believe some of my stories!!!!! :)

Oh Beth! You crack me up! First of all, your descriptive words gave me a perfect mental picture of what happened...and I was laughing out loud! I bet something did stink!!!
This post is so timely because my Mom and Dad have been on a "Dog Whisperer" kick lately... They tape and watch every show and have even read Cesar's book! They are trying shamelessly to instill his dog training techniques into their 2 English Springer Spaniels... It is a riot! But your post reminded me of how much we love our animals...and how we are willing to do anything for them, even carry their No.2!!!!
Much love to you- So sorry to hear that something hurt you during the Holidays. But praise the Lord that God has used us and our Scriptures to encourage you. What a blessing to know that!
We do love you here in Siestaville and don't know what we'd do without you! Thank you for keeping it real.
Love,
Tara
I really needed to laugh 'til my sides ached....Thanks Beth, for the virtual "walk with dog/Melissa" today.

My best dog poo story . . . I had taken my weiner dog on a walk and she did her business halfway through the neighborhood. I put "the business" in the bag and put the bag in my coat pocket. Unbeknownst to me, the lining of my coat pocket was ripped so the poo bag fell in between the lining and outer layer of the coat. Three days later (yep, three whole days), we finally figured out where the smell in the hall closet was coming from.
I just want to thank everyone for making me feel better about my notecard neatness fetish. I really can't help it. I have actually recopied ENTIRE journals to another one because some of the entries were messy. I know, that's nuts! I usually put a hole punch in my index cards and then use a binder ring so I can easily remove one and put another in it's place. I am trying hard to overcome this....
I am praying for all the needs listed here. That precious granddaughter, the one injured in service, the Travolta family.
I am so glad the Lord has ordained this blog for His Glory and His people.
Seeking Him,

This gives new meaning to the phrase, "Have a little talk with Jesus..." I love it!
I'm a first-time mommy in my 40's... after 23 years of marriage and thinking it was just the two of us, we welcomed our gift 11 weeks early but he's now so healthy and growing strong - God has such a great sense of humor!

I just love you! You crack me up! Glad I am not the only person who can't get her dog to heel! We flunked that part of puppy training school.
Much love!

Oh Beth, I so needed that tonight. I have been dealing with my 17 year old hormone driven son who doesn't understand why his girlfriend can't stay the night or spend 20 hours a day with him. Don't figure.
I have already filled out the personal leave papers at work for Deeper Still in Oklahoma City. That hope along with the Bible Memory and the different Bible studies will carry me through until December.
Thanks again for sharing your life with us. (I think this Bible memory team is way cool idea and I can't even tell you how excited I am about it!!)

You all are too funny!
I smiled out loud Lisa, at what you said. Only because at my annual two days ago my doctor told me if we want anymore, NOW is the time -- and all I could think was, "Is he crazy? Get pregnant at this weight?? I'd never lose it!" No thyroid, chasing 39, and 30 pounds overweight? Yeah. Me and Jenny Craig need to have a meetin first.
Oh, but another baby! I'm so happy for you!
Beth, hatin that stanky for you. I can just picture y'all flailing down the street. I bet your hair still looked good when it was over though. You've got good hair, my friend.
Sweet Jackie, Oh how I'm praying for your family and your precious grandaughter. and I won't stop.
love everyone, and so happy to start the new year with you all,

This was hilarious. I have no doggie story, but years ago when I worked at a middle school while doing lunch duty, I got pooped by a bird - all over my hair. Needless to say all the middle school teenagers got a laugh at my shocked, embarrazed face. I will NEVER forget that day.
What a wonderful post... I guess we all get a little stinky stuff on us from time to time with all that we manage to step into ( not talking animal here) I wonder how many times I have smelled bad to God..too many times I am afraid.
I know this post was a light hearted one, but this is what came out..maybe it has some underlying meaning for me?!
anyway,
It sounds like Star had a tad bit more fun than you!
looking forward to this year
love, Delilah
Ahh...Nothing like a doggie-doo story to cheer you up while working at 1:30 in the morning!! My black lab would give Star a fun for her money! In her puppy days, she would literally drag me all over the park with me scrambling to keep up and screaming "Heel! Slow down! Wait for me!" all the way!
And, I must say, I think I should get the prize for the notecard OCD...I remembered I needed to pick up a new notebook while I was at Sam's, and there is no buying small packages there...I now have 12!! My 18 month old has been crayoning one while watching Blue's Clues (he's got his very own "handy, dandy notebook"!), but I can use all the pages I want in the other!!
Have a super weekend!

I can picture it well -- so funny!
I experienced a new thing while writing out my memory scripture. I used pencil but completely refrained from erasing and rewriting! It was not easy. I'm so glad to know I'm not alone in my OC-ness about things like that!
Jackie, I am so very sorry about your granddaughter and the heartache your family is experiencing. May God protect her precious heart, heal her soul, and lead her to plunder all that the enemy has tried to steal and destroy.
And Beth and Siestas - I was so disappointed that I missed the New Year's Eve solo siestas post. I was busy making a chocolate cream pie for Thursday's dinner and logged on just a little too late to participate. I loved reading all the comments. Thank you for sharing your evening with us. I loved the "year of the Boaz" - Amen! :)

I love that you are visual because I could picture the whole thing!! You are too funny! I had a Lab that pulled me around like that. I took her for a walk when I was trying to induce labor with my first born (it worked)!
You so make me laugh! It's refreshing to see that there are so many "visual" ladies on this blog!! It can take me a looong time to tell a story--no detail is too small.
Thanks for making me laugh.

hilarious!!! For the sake of research, could you elaborate on Keith's alternative means of deposit disposal? (just kidding!!)
...and speaking of "good pens"... I think I'm dangerously approaching obsession level as far as I'm concerned.. suffice to say that with each pay day, my cubicle buddy says to me: "Right, Maria ! Time for your monthly journey to the stationery store!" You see, THAT stationery store is a pen lover's paradise. There, I get to try all sorts of pen color and width, their grip and weight... (my personal favorite is rigorously blue medium-ballpoint!)... see.. I knew I'd go overboard with this comment, but there it is!

Dear Jackie,
I am praying with you too. My heart just aches for you all. We too just found out over Thanskgiving that my son had been molested when he was 8 to 9 yrs. old and waited till this year to tell us (he's 16 now). It was bottled up in that poor boy all these years. As awful as this is I praise God that you found out early, I think healing comes a little easier and faster the sooner it is out in the open.
May God Bless you all with His Healing Power this year!

Sure hope you went right home and soaked in a nice hot smelly bath(smelly yummy bubble bath that is)!!
Your Keith sounds a bit like my Jeff, always having these GREAT ideas who we can gift the package to!! Just Gross!!
Your word picture made me "bust a gut" laughin' though!!

This sounds like it is fresh out of Marley and Me. If you have not read book or seen movie, do so. I like both but if hard pressed, I would go with book.
Hi Beth
This story really encouraged me in a way you may not have expected. I was thrilled to hear that you walk and have spiritual conversations with your grown daughter. I have heard you say before that as a young girl Melissa was 'a whirlwind' and a 'spirited child'- and I've got me one of those. She is just three and is lovely but can be a real handful who knows her own mind, and doesn't respond to any punishment I've found!! As I was reading your blog I felt the Lord say to me "Stick with it kid, she's gonna turn out just fine and be a strong woman for Christ!" -
Right now the nearest I get to a spiritual discussion is "Night baby- mummy loves you, daddy loves you, Jesus loves you" "Jesus doesn't love me, he's never even met me- where does Jesus live anyway?!" - You provided me with light at the end of the tunnel!
Your studies are really inspiring me to raise my two baby girls better, and I want to be the generation that makes a differnce for her children and her children's children.
God Bless
Ems
Well, at least you can say your walk was not "uneventful"!!
That is one reason I do not have pets....I do not want to have to deal with their....ummm...business, so to speak!!
I have a mental picture of your ordeal and all I can say besides..." I'm so sorry" is "thank God I have a Yorkie!" You are hilarious!! Hope your next walk goes better.

I am so laughing with you! Our dog, a cocker spaniel, but a tad too intelligent at times that can drive me crazy. I mean I know that parents have to out think thier kids at times, but I have to my dog too.
We were on our walk which like Star, external stimuli is not good. Someone dropped a bag of old chicken pieces/bones on the road, and of course I was not going to let her have it. She fought a good fight all the way to the stop sign (about 1/8 mile with her pulling and tugging and looking back). We have different routes that we take each time. So, three days later on that route, she stops at that spot and does not move, just sits! Sitting is good but she is not getting the chicken left overs. I had to carry her all the way around the corner before she would walk again-hehe.
Wow! Puppies at heart still!! My 7yr old weim STILL pulls :) I recommend short leashes, trust me, i have a burn on my leg from those retractable things (weim and choc. lab playing with random leg in the way doesn't mix) we too have our daily walks, and if not look out house... this is with a large yard too ;)
Mine only seems to get the best of me now when we turn the corner for home, i can almost feel my shoulder loosing it :) haha...
Thanks for the laugh, and reminding us of how wonderful these 4 legged blessings that touch our lives are super hysterical at times :)
We are in the looking mode for a new puppy-our faithful part border collie friend will be 15 soon. Part of me wants a new puppy-the isn't looking forward to toddler antics. I hope I can keep a positive attutude.
On another note-I've been waiting for a posting where this is appropriate. The week before Christmas, my hair, by my standards, was out of control. I looked at it one morning and realized, really it looks very nice, just BIG. I thought Beth Moore would like my hair today, but I need it shorter- four days til my haircut. I told my friend that I had Beth Moore hair-she agreed and laughed. I told my hair dresser, it's growing out really nicely, but it's too big. Her co-worker, who goes to my church, said "Have you ever heard of Beth Moore?" I laughed. So, please don't take this wrong- I love your hair. It's just that I'm a bit of a meloncholic, introvert, who pays for her natural chestnut tresses from the midwest!
We all love you here.

This is totally random and has nothing to do with your post, (although I love how you painted the perfect picture). I was right there with you! I simply cannot get it out of my mind how sweet you were on New Year's Eve with the solo sisters. I wasn't solo this year, but was in the past and to read how you kept responding to those women made my heart melt. Your compassion and love touched me more than you will ever know. I've told you a million times, but THANK YOU for your obedience.
Love you,
Angie xoxo
p.s. I hope you get another chance to have that talk with Melissa!
Hi Beth and Siestas!
Thanks for the laugh! That story ranks right up there with the one about the screaming man on the plane (from Get Out of that Pit). I almost die laughing every time I read that story! My husband has heard it every time we have flown on a plane! Anyway, what an interesting way to start the New Year- mine started off with me dropping a plate on my lip- don't even ask! Thanks for the refreshment today!
Beth, thank you for the best laugh I will probably have all day...laughed until I cried!! Sorry it was at your expense :)
Do you think the way he was treating his dog could be the reason for not having a girlfriend since '73? Just a thought :)
Our little group will start Esther on the 11th...CAN NOT WAIT!! Love you.....
Can I just say I have index card envy? The siesta with the pink ones? I have the colorful pens, and I have had to add stickers, but I really wish I was writing on cute pink cards!
Also, I have made a commitment to a year long study and so Esther has to wait. However, I did get the audio CD's for Christmas, oh happy day, and have been enjoying them as a preview for the real deal in video form.
Can I just say I have not stopped giggling over the "pantie" comment in the first CD. That is some honesty girlfriend and my teenage daughters would tell you that there mom still has lots of room for improvement in the "line" dept.
I can so relate to your story Beth. I have two Corgis that act the same way as Star. There are times I wonder if I have entered some kind of sleigh pulling contest with my two dogs. I suppose I haven't since I live in Florida. Yes, I have stunk too and it wasn't from a hard workout of my own.

Thanks for making me laugh right out loud at my computer desk.

Beth,
Your stories thrive at keepin' it real, honey. So nice to know that someone who seemingly has it all together has those days...just like the rest of us.
Blessings!

Bless your stinky heart!!!
Okay, this is HYSTERICAL!!!!!! Thanks for the humor Beth :) :)
I have a spastic yellow lab who does that run/dash thing! It can really give you an upper body workout! ;-)
I have found that the doggie gentle lead is the best thing going. He is trained and lives to please but sometimes his little doggy brain gets overwhelmed with the stimuli and he can't hold it in anymore!
God bless and thanks for the laugh! Way to go Star!!! :)
Love,
Esther
Melissa Clark,
Welcome to Siestaville !! Hope you keep checking in with us :)
Beth, that was TOOO funny. God really does have a sense of humor !
I LOVE that you and Melissa have your theological talks :)

Oh, how I can relate! My year old golden loses his mind when we walk. We have a lot of wind in our neck of the Texas woods and he chases everything that blows. I honestly don't know how I keep my arm in its socket.
We must have a lot of smokers in our neighborhood and we are trying to help him break the nicotene habit.
He has no self-esteem issues. He believes everyone he sees wants to pet him. He lunges at them in love, but they think he wants to eat them.
But I am happy to announce that he is a gentleman and only does number one on walks. :o)
Beth,
I read the story of your dog yesterday and ended up dreaming about your dog last night (except she was my dog).
I felt strongly pushed by the Lord to give you a word of encouragement. I've longed to tell you this face to face while sharing a pot of coffee but I'm thinking it may be on the other side of eternity before that happens. Nonetheless, I've longed to tell you that no other person (besides my husband) has had a greater spiritual impact on my life than you. It was in Minneapolis in 2000 at a Woman of Faith event that I heard you talk about how much we are loved by the Lord. I'd been a Christian since I was 17 and a pastor's wife but it was at that moment that I really got it. I heard that Lord really speak over my heart and I finally understood how much I was loved by Him. And then it has been your love for Jesus that has set the example in my life of what it means to be in love with Him. You gave me a picture of what a relationship with Jesus could look like. I find myself falling more in love with Him everyday and I'm so grateful to you for being vulnerable enough to share your life and share your story. When you have shared about what your walk with Jesus has looked like, I thought "I want that. I want to know Jesus like that."
I think Satan must want to tear you down and discourage you but I want to say with my whole heart "You changed me. You gave me Jesus in a way no once else did. Thank you!!!"
Oh, Beth - you had me laughing out loud and as I have read through the comments, I have laughed, cried, and done battle over the innocent ones whom Satan tries to devour. I am so thankful we can all share in the journey here together and draw strength both from each other and our prayers. Thank you for your obedience.

What a riot! Have you seen the movie Marley & Me? They had a few scenes where Marley pulled her owners and a dog trainer around. Too funny! On second thought, you may not want to see it. We saw it on Christmas day and my husband had to pull his hat over his eyes so he could gain his composure and hide his tears. I, of course, didn't mind letting the world see and I bawled like a baby. We have an old yellow lab too so it was hard to watch.
About your incident...I always tie the bag shut with a knot when I carry it and hope that it's enough to keep it contained. It's such a humiliating thing carrying a bag of dog poo much less carrying a bog of dog poo on you. :)
Hi Beth,
Thanks for the laughter. I sure needed that.
Also I want to thank you for being real and sharing that you struggle with things. I am so thankful for God and His Word that can change our lives.
Blessed New Year to you and your family.
Ok. I've just watched the Wising Up video where you talked about being honest and how we say we are lol when really we are just amused...I''m telling you, right now I'm laughing out loud! In October our dog of 12 years died, and it was comforting to me what you had shared about Beany. We just got a new dog yesterday, so we are back in the dog life too. Thanks for the laugh! Love you!
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!
Beth, thank you for the laughter! I still laugh (sometimes out loud) about your blog concerning the church service you attended that was so good you would have thrown your shoe if someone would have thrown it back. In fact, since I read that, I've been using it myself to describe something good (as in "This chocolate cake is so good I'd throw my shoe if someone would throw it back.")
P.S. I hope the Lord has applied His healing balm to your hurt feelings (you mentioned in previous blog). I've been praying for you.
Hugs,
Betty R. - Laurinburg, NC
If you haven't seen the movie "Marley and Me", take the girls and go see it together. You'll love it! Happy New Year!

Oh my. Dogs you gotta love 'em. They teach us humility in sooo many "fun" ways. :)
When you started talking about the other dog my first thought was oh no. lol I've got one of those goofy dogs too that ANY bit of stimulus and I'm going for a drag. We have to be careful not to use the word walk or ride in front of her. If she hears it she starts whining and circling by the door! :) She loves a good drag, er I mean, walk around the block. lol
You have a good day Beth!
Melissa
I love your stories...hahaha
Oh my! That is hysterical! I can so picture it - what Kodak moment! I am curious about how the other dog reacted and his master? LOL Thanks for the smile!
love-n-hugs,
We are in the process of training our own little border collie (16 weeks) and boy can I relate to the whole walk experience. I know exactly how to pray for you as I venture out every day for our expercise and p**p break. Blessings!
HA!!!!!!!!
Awwll.. that is so funny!
I have a PLEASANTLY PLUMP CHIHUAHUA that I JUST sent off to be with a friend for the next four months (as I have an internship at CMT in Nashville starting the 12th)
It was so great to hear your puppy stories.... as I MISS MINE SO MUCH!! It was soooo hard to let her go. I sent a prayer request out to all my friends for her. I'm so scared she will think I'm abandoning her or forget me. Afterall...she's my FIRST BORN!!! LOL
But then God places people like you in my path to delight me! (Even if ya do stink... *wink*wink*)
Blessings Ma'am!!!
Putting off the inevitable housecleaning and thoroughly enjoying not only your post, but these comments! First off, I'm typing my verses (experimenting with the right font/color combo) and using the ring linky thing! But more amazing than that is the way God is using the verses ALREADY to renew my heart/mind. I'm doing some key word studying too, which has been rich! Thanks for issuing the challenge! Our women's group will probably start Esther by the end of the month or beginning of February and we're very excited! Also, know that my prayers are with Kathy's precious granddaughter.
Last night my husband went and saw Marley and Me--armed with my kleenexes in hand. It motivated me to come home and hug, and then blog about my dog!
Then, I come to your site and read your dog post.
What gifts from God!!
Hey Beth,
TOO FUNNY! Thank you so much for being real and willing to share your life with others!
Trusting Him Completely,

I think your dog and my dog are probably relatives.....
Just this morning he went spazoid over the neighbor's adorable little puppy. Nearly pulled my arm out of its socket (and the same bag of you-know-what went flying).
My question is, once you've picked up the you-know-what from it's original "deposit", and SAID you-know-what gets plopped around due to over-excited flailings, are you obligated to pick it up again?
Or does the original "pick up" cover all subsequent "droppings"?
Oh brother....I'm blogging about poop.
That was stinking hilarious! Bahwah! ha ha ha (pun intended~ tee hee)
You are too funny. Thank you. I needed a laugh this morning.

OH, MY!!!! So glad you are REAL... :) And really glad I have a CAT! LOL
Blessings on you in the New Year!
That's hilarious.
I have two dogs, an old, blind, diabetic, cocker spaniel named Bailey, and a jack russell terrier mix who belongs to my daughter who has moved back home. Sadie is awful. Just awful. You name it, if its awful, she's done it, but then today, she did the sweetest thing I've ever seen her do. Bailey was out in the yard and I was trying to call him back in, but being blind and old, he was confused, so Sadie went and got him and led him back into the house. Amazing! Normally she just beats Bailey up!
I don't care what anybody says, I think all dogs go to heaven. Even the awful ones.
That's not sound theology, is it?
Oh, my gosh that is HILARIOUS! Thanks for the smile this afternoon!
You, Sweet One, are a HOOT and a half! :) :) :)
I already knew you were a normal gal just like the rest of us, but now I'm certain!!!!
You have tickled the insides of my soul with this story!
Rebecca
Beth,
I'm sorry I didn't read the post first where you said your feelings had been really hurt! I was skimming through and missed something crucial. YES, it is crucial to women when their feelings are hurt (and alot of men as well).
Sweet Precious Siesta, I am praying for you right now about this even though I don't have a clue what was said or who said it.
(In my flesh nature I would backslap them for you, but my new nature would not allow it)
Just a week ago someone I hardly know in my little town of only 3240 people give or take a few, said something awfully meanspirited.
She told me someone from "my church" said or "may" have said that I sure had gained alot of weight lately...I looked like I weighed at least 100 pounds more than I used to. They were sure it was not true..just some gossip.
I would love to tell you I rose above it and prayed and read and spoke scripture. However, I did not.
I had me an old fashion "snot slinging, ugly cry". But, then I prayed and I'm still praying because there is some truth to the gaining of weight and I haven't been taking care of myself (that's why I chose ROMANS 12:1 to commit to memory.)
Also, we can encourage, speak the truth in love, etc., but sometimes we have to make sure we are coming from a spirit of true agape love before we go speaking out something.
Alot of time it is truth, but we are more than happy to speak it out of a sense of meaness or a need to be right. Right truth...WRONG heart.
Well, this is too long already so if you don't post it to the blog I understand.
BUT, I wanted you to know that I pray over your hurt feelings that GOD, HIMSELF will soothe them and you will find everything in HIM...and that the person who hurt you...GOD would convict their heart and show them the error of their ways
Blessings and love for all you are and have been in my loving walk with HIM,
Teri S.
Dear Beth - this has nothing to do with this particular post and for that I am sorry, but I just had to send you a message from my sweet Bobby. This morning I was watching the intro to Esther. About half way through my husband got up and was sitting there watching with me. After it was over, I lovingly looked at him and said "Baby, it's TOUGH being a woman!". He wanted me to let you know "it's tough living with one too!". ha!
I'm so excited about Esther! Other than Believing God, I don't think I've ever thought a bible study was written JUST for me!
Love you. Rebecca
What a good belly laugh that was for me!! I have to admit that reading your blog is one of my favorite things to do. I LOVE YOU!! How can you be so cute, funny and anointed too??!!! You must be God's favorite. Oh, I forgot, I'm His favorite!! Isn't it nice that He's God and we can all be His favorite?!!
