You Think You Know People

Last night Curt and I went to pick up Jackson from the babysitter's house. That would be my mom's house. We had our dinner 8 group for Sunday school and Bibby was so generous to take Jackson for us. They even went to Chucky Cheese (Chunky Cheese, as we say in our family)! Jackson is so lucky! When we got to her house we were both feeling kind of crummy from a cold. I could see the gears turning in my mother's mind. She was deciding whether to reveal a secret about herself that could either shock and horrify us or help relieve our stuffy noses. Her mothering instincts overrode her self-protection instincts and she darted into her bathroom and emerged with this thing that looked like a small watering can-slash-tea pot. She said some of the girls at work had started using these things - neti pots they're called - and she had finally taken the plunge. (You can watch an instructional video here if you dare.) It worked wonders, she said. She may have even used the words "life changing." Now all of the LPM crew, minus one, are regular users.

We were somewhat amazed as she explained it. Curtis, who is one day more advanced into his cold than I am, not to mention more adventurous, was intrigued. So on the way home we picked one up at Walgreen's. Once Jackson was in bed, Curtis proceeded to irrigate his sinuses over my kitchen sink. Awesome. He also lost concentration during the process and didn't control his breathing correctly, which resulted in him losing his dinner in my kitchen sink. Super awesome. Personally, I've had enough of losing my breakfasts, lunches, and dinners in the last few months and I would rather not try this neti pot phenomenon. Curtis was sniffling again within 15 minutes. Totally not worth it to me, y'all. I declined using the neti pot. Well this morning when I woke up my head felt like it weighed 40 pounds. I started coughing and wouldn't you know that my body went into morning sickness mode. Fun times. So Curtis and I can bond over our stuffy noses and weak stomachs. We are a pitiful pair.

(I know, this is the worst post of all time. I was really hurting for something to say.)

So are you a natural remedy kind of person (not that there's anything natural about pouring water into your nose through a tea pot) or do you reach for the medicine cabinet when you get sick? If you're a natural remedy kind of person, what is the one thing you're always trying to get your friends to try?

I would normally sustain myself on DayQuil and NyQuil, but since I'm with child I'm just trying to make it on as little Tylenol as possible, chicken soup, and decaf hot tea. Okay, y'all are not going to believe this, but Curtis just walked in the door unexpectedly. He's home on his lunch break to use his neti pot again! He is so brave and wild at heart! As for me, I'm going to heat up some soup.

My husband, who suffers from allergies, has one of those little nose-washing doo-dahs. I am thankful for him that it works, but cannot bear to watch or think about it (and he has to do it over HIS OWN bathroom sink -- NO kitchen sink nose washing!!) I do all I can to take care of a problem naturally -- as in, does my head hurt from lack of sleep or lack of water, is my exercise routine causing my foot to feel this way... but I'm not really into natural 'remedies'. I don't really like taking meds, but will and am VERY thankful for modern migraine medicine!

I use something similar to the neti pot. It's more like a wash bottle. WORKS WONDERFULLY! I've never had it make me throw up though. :) I think you should give the neti pot a try!

I began using my neti pot a little over a year ago. I agree with "life changing". I have horrible seasonal allergies and am prone to sinus infections. I cannot believe I went so long without a neti pot. So go ahead and give it a try. Once you get passed the weirdness of it you can't help but love how well it works. Feel better soon. Blessings!

I've heard about those but I am too chicken to try them.

I've had a headache for several days...weather...sinuses...I go to the doc Wed for my annunal check up maybe I'll ask for soeme good old penicillian.....

Tylenol PM is my favorite! I broke my foot and have been using that for pain pills even though I have the real thing. I use it for headaches, I have chronic sinuses, shoulder pain, back pain...hey it's non addictive and cheap!

We are expecting rain starting tonight...I'm feeling it...

Hope you feel better....I thought you were going to tell us she was keeping Jackson to "protect" him from the germs.

I'm not sure I could ever bring myself to use that kitchen sink again, Amanda :)

For stomach problems, I'm a big believer in chewing a piece of peppermint gum before reaching for the Pepcid, etc. It works much more quickly for me, is cheaper, and tastes good to boot! :)

okay, you asked for it so here goes:
Natural Antibiotic - good for whatever ails you:
1 cup hot water and add -
1 Tblsp apple cider vinegar (the kind with 'mother' in it is best-Braggs)
1 Tblsp honey (local honey is better for you)

Sip this until gone and do as often as desired!! :)

AND, OF COURSE, I TAKE JUICE PLUS EVERYDAY....www.phardinjuice.com

Amanda, I plead with you, give the Neti Pot a chance, and tell your man to try again. It really is life-changing. The first couple times you use it are not very glamourous, but you'll feel instant relief.

Sister In Christ in Fort Smith said...

OK Amanda, here is what I recommend. First put a piece of fresh ginger in your chicken soup when you are cooking it. Powerful for a cold. Rub Vick's or Mentholatum on the bottom of your feet and put on socks at night. Also rub it on your chest and back and under your nose. That is what I do, cold medicine just doesn't do enough to justify taking it. Praying that you are all well very soon.

I find that Olive Leaf capsules (purchased from Wal-Mart) are a natural immunity builder/anti-biotic and that AirBorne works wonders - this is also all natural and can also be purchased at Wal-Mart.

I am always amazed at the things I learn about on this blog. I could have used one of those neti pots last weekend when I thought my head was going to explode! Thanks for the education. I think.

I use a plastic squeeze bottle that I think is way easier than a neti pot. It's not a pleasant experience but I think it helps! It's easier to do in the shower. I hope you all feel better soon!

Oh dear... I would have to be really desperate. The instructional video is just hilarious to me. I particularly love the stream of fluid suspended in midair on one shot... I wonder - were there many auditions for the position of "lady in Neti-Pot instructional video"?

The only thing funnier I think is the visual of Beth using this contraption... My goodness! :)

Funny post Amanda! Hope you feel better.

I have heard that the neti pot works wonders but had been too chicken to use it! We hate using medicine around our house, but when I was teaching I would use airborne. I couldn't decide if it really worked or was just in my head! :)

Don't knock the neti-pot until you try it! I actually started using it during my pregnancy and it worked wonders. I went from having weekly sinus headaches to only an occassional one.

I had a head-cold a couple weeks ago and also don't like taking a lot of medicines. A friend of mine told me that pomegranate juice worked for her. I tried it (you can only handle about 4 ounces at a time because it is very tart/bitter) and couldn't believe the difference after just one day! It has to be 100% Pomegranate juice. It's in the juice isle and they have it at Wal-Mart.

I'm a little of both, actually. I hate pouring medicine into my body but I'm certainly not one to tough it out!
I love echinacea vitamins and zinc tablets. I take both when I think I'm just starting to fight something. And I swear they have helped me fight things off many times. Also garlic pills. Don't know if a pregnant woman could take those or not - check with your Dr.
I also use a hot rag on my cheeks when my sinuses hurt. My Dr. actually told me about that. You just wet it and put it in the micro until it's steaming. Don't burn your cheeks though! Even if you put it just off your face it feels so good.
I have heard about Neti Pots but am just like you. I don't like the thought and will never try it unless I'm desperate. :)

MITZI said...

Amanda, you're description of the "neti-pot" is enough to keep me away. No thank you! I ususally don't take anything for the cold. I just ride it out.

I don't take anything UNTIL my husband gets tired of my sniffing and sneezing and finally suggests I take something. He has been known to spray Lysol around me and anything that I touch, including our bed, my pillow, the door knobs, phone after I use it etc. :)

We are going the the cold/pneumonia thing at our house too. We have a regualar pharamacy, I think in my pantry. We were discussing all the things for my husband could take so he would not come down with my pneumonia; well, there's Airborne, and Apple-Polyphenols, Wellness capsules, echinacea tincture, and the tried and true, swallowing a whole garlic clove, but there is one tincture that only the truly brave take - anti-plaque! No, really, there is such a thing and it is in my refrigerator! Of course, it is a few years old - alright more than a few, but that should just make it better, right? We affectionately called it swamp water cause that is what it looks like. But if you are brave enough to try it - it seems to cure about any cold! *not reccomended for pregnant mothers* needless to say~! :~) After giving him all the options, I took my antibiotics and my ibprufen and went to bed!

Will pray for you two to get better fast!

i thought my friends were crazy when they told me about the net-pot! but i tried it (when no one was at home!) and wow, its amazing!! i would suggest the first time you use it to only use half of the little packet of stuff. i can't get my hubby to use it, he thinks i'm crazy. its sooooo good though! and then i still take a sudafed or something, just cause.

Ok, my hubby and I gave in to the "neti-pot" a few months back. Worked ownders for him, but as for me, I had the same experience your hubby did. I was "with-child" at the time as well, but didn't know it yet. While I'm not a huge medication fan myself, one thing I did find that is a miracle drug, and safe to take during pregnancy, is the Z-Pak! If you've never gotten one, please, do yourself a favor and try it out! My sinus infections/colds usually last upwards of 10-14 days. When I took the Z-Pak, I was back to work within 3 days, it was amazing!! Anyway, that's my plug! Good luck! Hope you both feel better soon!

My hubby uses the netipot too! YUCK! Even the thought of it sounds gross to me since I too have morning sickness. During pregnancy I stick to throat coat tea. But when not "with child" we always use liquid wild cherry bark. I always give it to my daughter first thing when I see symptoms appear. They usually disappear within a day of taking it! Works wonders!

You want some relief from congestion try the SudaCare plug-ins. It is like Vick's in a plug in form. It will fill your whole bedroom but it will allow you to breath without the greasy stuff on your neck. I love them and keep them around at all times when congestion hits. My kids even ask for them when they start getting all stuffy. They have a children's strength and normal.
I hope you feel better soon.

Amanda,

You make my heart smile as you keep us updated on the life and times of the Jones, Moore clan. The Hill household uses all types of remedy for our ailments. Our son who is 12 suffered from a severe sinus infection and ventured over the kitchen sink with a pump full of distilled water and sinus mix (the same company that makes the NetiPot). He was a trooper!!! He felt better, however a trip to the ENT was necessary. A daily dose of Claritin and nose spray is his poison.
I am praying that the Lord will touch your household and allow the pregnant girl a time of rest.
God bless you all.

I am sold on Zicam. It is a nasal gel that you use at the first sign of a cold. It works great for me but the only problem is you have to use it within the first 48hrs of a cold starting. It shortens the length of a cold and the severity of the cold.

Anonymous said...

First the tried and true: Boil water like you would make yourself a cup of hot tea, but instead of tea, put in 2 heaping teaspoons of seedless raspberry preserves and a little honey. The combo tastes great and there is something in the raspberry that cuts mucus.
Vicks is our tried and true for 25 years of child-rearing and 50 years of personal experience. the best!
Do not take herbal anything unless your doctor says you can. Just because things are called natural does not mean they are safe. There are herbal prepartions that cause miscarriage, purge stomacks, purge livers...you get the idea :)

Vaporizers to humidify the air also do wonderful things.

ok...awful as it may be...we also neti here. my 9 yr old son requests it when he's stuffy! Says it beats having to blow so much. my 11 yr old daughter isn't quite as brave...although her intense allergies may be getting the best of her! It makes sense though...flushing out the allergen that is making you react instead of just drying up the consequences of said allergen. Feels a little like getting water in your nose in a pool...but not painful...relieving. I have girlfriend that does hers in the shower! Washes right away...I know..way TMI!

BTW - I think during one of my pregnancies...the Dr let me use Afrin - nose spray at night to sleep. Although their allowances changed with each of the three pregnancies. :) Although the Neti might be just as useful! Come on...give the little teapot a chance.

I can not help you on the natural remedies. I am a grab any medicine with in reaching distance and take it for crying out loud kind of person.
The only thing that took away morning sickness for me was oranges, lots of them, and the best part is if you do bring them back up they taste exactly the same coming up as they do going down. A little gross I know, but what's a little upchuck between siesta's?
I hope you are both feeling better soon.

I am such a bliever in Sudafed it's not even funny. Even the kind now that doesn't have pseudoephedrine in it. I have avoided many-a sinus infection in recent years.

OK, I will be at the store today picking up one of these things. My husband has been dealing with allergies lately, working on a sinus infection, and is totally exhausted from lack of sleep. And now he's singing at a funeral tomorrow. So tonight we're trying the neti even if I have to hold him down screaming, "Baby, TRUST me!" while pouring into his nose. May God give me supernatural strength.

In other news...my husband and I have been trying to find a church that we both like since our wedding last year. Yesterday we visited First Baptist (even though it's a little far for us) since he grew up there, we were married there, and I've been going for your mama's Bible studies. We LOVED it. Everyone was so friendly and down-to-earth. I didn't want to leave and seriously considered just sitting in the lobby after the service soaking in the love, but then realized that my husband would question my mental stability and maybe just going home would be the best option. Anyway, I saw you in the bathroom but didn't want to bother you and be a blog stalker. And, quite frankly, nature was calling something fierce. So I passed up the opportunity, but will tell you now that you looked great and I never would have guessed that you weren't feeling well. Sometimes we women need to hear these things.

When I became ill earlier this year after visiting my dad in St Luke's for several weeks, I used the Neti Pot, about the 3rd try I got the method down, no mess, it works. Saline solution in a bottle works well at the beginning of the sniffles. Another thing I use is Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of my feet and then wear white socks, it works really well. I don't know why.

Amanda,

Try applying some Peppermint or just plain mint oil to a boiling pot of water, then place a towel over your head and allow the minty vapors to clear your head.

My parents are herbal junkies... They have been using them for years. They use a small but potent mint concoction from the far east called Tei-Fu oil nd Tei-Fu lotion - this stuff is good for what ails you. A drop of the oil under each nostril helps with stuffed up noses and even headache and the lotion is good for soar muscles and aching backs. Smells strong! I mean to High Heaven strong, but it works. Vita C is always a good thing to take and B vitas - but check with the baby doc first. Before Tei-Fu oil my mom used Mentholatum for her stuffy noses - always a glare of that gray cream across her flaming red nostrils during cold season.

I'm a Dayquil, Nyquil person, too. You might check with your OB about an OTC cold medicine that does not contain acetaminophin. I was not allowed to take tylenol or Dayquil and Nyquil while I was pregnant (oh, yes, it was 19 years ago) but they said I could take Actifed. So asking may not hurt.

I feel your pain my friend.

Raspberry Tea is an herbal remedy recommended to help sooth morning sickness during pregnancy - you can even drink it with honey! UMMM... cept I don't like Raspberries.

Blessings.

Um, I'm totally with you on the neti pot. That sounds super yucky. What I like to get when I'm starting to feel sick is a juice by RW Knudsen called Lemon Ginger Echinachea from their Simply Nutritious line. I really like it, but the ginger is very spicy. I usually just drink as much juice as I can handle! And use the virus Kleenex - it's got little blue spots on it that kill viruses to keep from spreading it, also use tons of antibacterial gel.

Anonymous said...

So sorry y'all are sick! I usually just reach for the medicine, and I can promise you I would not dare pour something into my nose.

I do like one herbal remedy, though. When I was pregnant, I drank ginger tea. It helped the nausea so much!

Hope you feel better soon.

I've quit dairy products, and that has tremendously helped my (and my children's) cold/allergy problems. Lactic acid helps produce mucous, so the more milk you're drinking, the snottier you get...we have converted to rice milk to drink to get our calcium in, and we make sure to eat avacado and almonds and other sources of good fatty acids. For my daughter, she was even able to come off her asthma inhaler when she quit "cow" milk.

LOL!! The neti-pot really does work well after you get the hang of it.

Here's a natural way to help the little babies in our lives, which in turn helps mom's of newborns get a little more peace and rest. A chiropractor who specializes in baibes or a doctor who is a D.O. not an M.D. Adjusting babies can help get rid of constipation, colic, acid reflux, helps burping and allows them to sleep better through the night. Do your research first though, I wouldn't trust my baby to just anyone :)

The Journey Continues ~

It is a VERY SAD DAY for our family.

Our cat Sassy was put to sleep this morning. Dr. Jeff found a inoperable stomach tumor and due to Sassy's age (15) recommended that Sassy be put to sleep. I know that there is so much going on in the world and that a cat seems so minimal compared to pains and suffering of our world. However, this has been a precious creature ( human in some form) to our family for the past 15 years. We are all so very sad and will miss our Sassy Cat so very much. REQUEST: Siesta's, PLEASE KEEP US IN YOUR PRAYERS TODAY AS WE DEAL WITH THE LOSS OF OUR SASSY.
THANK YOU!!!!!

Neti Pots work!!!

** Also, our Italian family has used this form of healing with colds.

Pour a small amount of salt in your hand and cup it as you place your hand over warm water flowing from tap, then, sniff the salt water from your hand and lean your head FORWARD so the salt water will go directly to your sinus (it will be uncomfortable & gross)but YOU will start feeling better in minutes!

My dad was an amateur herbalist so I grew up with natural remedies. I went almost my entire childhood (after chickenpox) without needing a doctor's appointment other than regular check-ups so it must have worked. =) As a matter of fact, when I use drugstore remedies I often get sicker, longer.

The only medicinal remedy I swear by is Mucinex. When I had pneumonia last winter it was the only thing that cleared my lungs out at all.

I use it when I feel just terrible, so I'm not as loyal a uses, but HIGHLY recommend it for Momma-to-be because it helps clean out your sinsuses without medicine. The more you and Curt practice the better the nose to mouth part will get. It take some practice to not have too much go down your throat...but think of it this way too...you get to wash out your nose and gargle with salt water all at the same time.

Hi Amanda-
Being as I am 13.5 weeks prego here and I am just getting over the cold stuff, when I went to the baby doctor two weeks ago he put me on Clairtin-D two times a day, morning and dinner. Plus Chlor-trimeton before bed if I needed it and I could take all the cough drops I wanted. Needless to say I was in bad shape. The Clairtin-D is nondrowsey, so don't take after 8pm, you will be up all night. I have also had the lovely nausea which was 10x worse with the cold, it has been 2 weeks now and cold seems to be almost gone. But daughter has it now, so it may come back :-( Oh and nausea is still here, but they put me on meds for that since with my daugther I ended up with zero weight gain from being sick so much with her. Hopefully that leaves in a few more weeks too! Sorry to be so long and it really makes me sound like a druggie, but I usually don't take much of anything, I usualy am one to let it work it course, but sometimes you have to give in.

Hi Amanda,

So sorry to hear that you are sick upon with child. I went through it twice and it is so hard to get well while your pregnant. As you mentioned, you can't take the good stuff and your body is already run down.

My mother-in-law told me about the neti pot several months. I am a constant allergy/sinus sufferer. Except, she called it a nettle pot, she did mention it looked like a tea pot (we call her speech "Drendaisms"). They are good, if you have to resort to one. However, I don't blame you for not trying it after what you witnessed with Curtis and considering your state.

I find that daily doses of Claritin or Zyrtec help me with every day sinusues/allergies and helps prevent my colds. I've found that with me, meds like Tylenol Sinus, etc. etc. make it worse. I don't know why. I'm sure they work for most people. Sometimes I resort to just dumping salt water up my nose (I know it's gross, but I am usually desperate at this point). Sweetie, you sound sick though. If it does not clear up, go to the doc. You might need a antibiotic to clear things up. You may have a sinus infection. I am always in denial when I get sick. I say I am not getting sick, that I am going to will it away, after a good month of progressive illness, I finally go to the doctor and usually have bronchitus. I promise myself that I will not wait that long again, that I will take care of myself. After I start feeling good, I am back on the Coke, no exercise, fast food, no sleep, etc.

As for natural rememdies, I'm usually a med. person. I do believe in gingerale and chicken soup.I don't agree with doctors on that one...it's tried and true to at least make you feel better. If I'm not in shape to make it homemade, I just go with double noodle in a can or something. When I do make my soup homemade, I just do the chicken tenders, water, carrots, celery, onion, a pouch of veg. or onion dry soup mix, veg. and chick. broth, green or orange bell peppers, a spoonful of butter and of course, no-yolk egg noodles. It makes a really big pot.

Hope you feel better soon, I will pray for you.

My daughter (also with child) and her husband suffer TERRIBLE allergies. Hearing them cough and sneeze year round was (sorry to say) very nauseating to even be in the same room. Since they have discovered the "nose-purifier" miracle devise - and yes, using it in the shower works best - they are remarkably and amazingly healed. It has changed their lives completely. Off of medications and inhalers, and feeling like completely new people. It convinced me!! So give it another try, Amanda. Once you get the hang of it, you will love not taking meds. for instant sinus relief! God bless you, dear

Howver..I agree with the Siesta that uses Zicam...so easy. I use the little Q-tip thingies.....just lightly touch inside the nostril. It works before the cold if you use it in time....if not, they do have one for congestion. Works like a charm. I love them!!
Good luck, hope you are feeling better soon!!

Oh my goodness... you crack me up! This post tickled me to pieces.

I have always wanted to try a net-pot, but haven't decided whether plunking down the little bit of cash it would cost to purchase a neti pot would be worth it. After all... I could always find something I "need" for the $15 or so dollars. :)

When I am feeling crummy... chicken broth, hot tea and crackers.

If I lived closer - I'd bring you and Curt some of my homemade chicken soup!

Yay for neti pots!!! I tried it out for the first time last Fall when I began to experience allergies for the first time in my life. Wow....after using it for the first time, I felt like I was taking my first breath as an infant! In fact, my sinuses became so clear that I almost felt light-headed...kinda like when you come out from being under the covers for a few minutes. Buying some more saline packets is on my current grocery list. Try it Amanda, it is wonderful! And don't give up so soon!

Okay, the visual I have in my head of Beth (with her big hair) using a Neti-pot has just about killed me with laughter! Nothing is sacred in the sisterhood of the siesta's- Still got your funny on Beth? LOL
Anyway, I say, try it! Also, here's my remedy for a cold. I got it from a Chinese friend who came over and made it for our whole family. Got rid of the cold in record time- Who knew?

Go get some ginger root at the store. A couple of big ones.

Get some unprocessed (very important) honey at Whole Foods or some other health food store.

Get some lemons at the same time you get some ginger root. A couple of big ones will do.

Remedy:
Heat up the ginger root in a pan on the stove. Don't use oil, or anything else, just fully heat, smashing down the ginger root a little bit as you heat.
Heat water for "tea" on the stove. Make the following tea:
One full glass of water, one full lemon, and about one heaping tablespoon of the unsulfured, unprocessed honey. Drink this down slowly. As you do, take the ginger root off the stove, wrap it in a small towel, and put it on the back of your neck, at the base. Let that stay there for about 30 minutes or so. Drink the lemon/honey tea. Your shoulders and neck will warm up, but there is something in the ginger that does the job.
Maybe another blog for how to get rid of a bladder infection naturally. Honestly, one day, and they're gone!
Love you, hope you all feel better! Beth, why don't you just break down and tell the secrets now instead of having your children share them later! If they don't share, don't worry, your grandchildren will! (Paybacks are Great! Remember, the kids will tell you about their parents also!)

This is too funny!! I have used a variation of the neti pot for years and swear by it. I was scheduled for that hideous surgery on my sinus(es) and chickened out. I said to the allergy doctor - there must be an alternative. That's when he explained to me about nasal wash. It saved me from surgery. I did it 3X a day for a couple months. Now if I get sick and clogged up I run back to it. I've never heard of anyone actually getting sick while doing it. Poor Curtis. It must have messed with his gag reflex.

Sorry you're struggling with colds. Yea for chicken soup.

Isn't it funny how the natural remedy things always sound so kooky...but they usually work!

Two things I have tried:

Apple Cider Vinegar - at the first sign of a sore throat, or even if you're exposed to people who have come down with sore throat/cold symptoms, gargling with the stuff really helps. You can dilute it with some water or use it "straight up." The earlier into your symptoms you use it, the more likely it will go away. If you're closer or in the midst of the full blown systoms, you'll probably need to gargle several times. The best kind of Apple Cider Vinegar to use is Bragg's - though I don't think it's pasteurized. I'll warn it doesn't taste or smell that great but it's better than the cold.

Olbas Oil - this is a much more pleasant remedy. If you have the kind of cold that leaves you coughing through the night, put some of the Olbas Oil on the soles of your feet and put on some socks just before turning in for the night. Somehow, this seems to relieve the coughing and makes for a more restful sleep. The oil is has eucalyptus in it so it smells good and you can use this on young children. I've tried this on myself and my children and it seems to work really well.

You can get both of these items in health food stores.

I too used to be a skeptic about the neti-pot. My mother suggested it for me (she's an avid neti-pot convert) and I was grossed out for several years. But last year I had a cold about once a month and was desperate for some relief.. so I tried that creepy little pot and it makes SUCH a different. I did not lose my lunch, but I did lose a little dignity. My husband still thinks it's creepy. But I use it any time I feel a cold coming on and it's great.

Maybe you can try it when you're not pregnant with a sensitive tummy. :)

Also, Airborne or EmergenC on the hour helps get rid of a cold.

Get better soon!

Amanda;

I do not like to take meds, at all. We had the cold an sinus thing going at our house a couple of weeks ago. Two of us ended up with sinus infections. Well when I went to the doctor ( who happens to use both natural and traditional meds) handed me a neti pot. Have I tried it yet? No, I am trying to get my nerve up to do so. I have allergy problems and I think it might help. I am just having a problem getting past the weirdness of it all. Now the funny thing a bout all this is that my mom(who has not had the never to try one), has been trying to get me and my middle daughter to use one for about a year. So I guess you could say I am right there with you on this one.

That last line- "He's so brave and wild at heart." Cracks me up completely! That is hilarious! I am so, so sorry that you are feeling so lousy. I also agree that nasal irrigation is disgusting. I think I would throw up just at the thought of using that thing, no matter HOW I was breathing. My husband has used it before...I think maybe it helped a little? But I was too grossed out to talk to him about it much. And I did NOT let him use it in the kitchen, because I want to be able to eat in there again without, as you say, losing my lunch.
I've known many a natural remedy gal, and I think that's fine, it's dandy for them, but I don't like it when they become all militant about it. I think it was Dr. Dean Adell who once said "What do you think tylenol is made out of?" Um, it's naturally occuring things, folks.

I am not a fan of the netipot, perse, but I am a fan of the sinus rinse. Neil-Med (in this part of the world) sells a nice little plastic squirter accompanied with 50 pre-made saline packets. Just add some warm, distilled water and voila.

My daughter, a chronic asthma/allergy sufferer was facing steroids to do away with chronic acute sinusitis (at age 6). The ENT sent us home with the Neilmed system ($12 at the pharmacy). After 30 days, her CT scans were clear.

If a 6 year old can do it... :)

I use it as well. It's very easy. The bottle is made to squeeze - none of the head tipping, uncomfortable gig of the netipot.

Someone bought me the netipot last Christmas. I swear by my neilmed. I use it ALL the time. That and 10,000 MG of vitamin C when I feel a cold coming on, green tea and some black elderberry capsules.

Seriously..Neilmed. It works. But it won't cure a cold. It (or the netipot) has to be used all of the time to keep things clear and healthy.

Enough already, eh? :)

I am laughing out loud, Little Momma! I have never in all my days have heard of a neti pots:)Since we are discussing interesting health remedies, I have heard of ear candles, have you heard of those? Never tried em, myself:)

What I have found to be a fabulous cold cure and preventative is two things: daily vitamins, and/or Cold Care teas by Traditional Medicinals. My husband and I started taking Garden of Life vitamins, the men's and women's formulas, about 2 years ago. I have not had hardly any colds since then, and the stuff Luke and I do get, goes away a whole lot faster, and the symptoms aren't as bad. Also, we've maintained and lost weight since we started taking them-interesting, but welcome side effect. Then, Gypsy Cold Care Tea and Cold Care P.M. by Traditional Medicinals does a good job of shortening colds (I think both the vitamins and teas are ok for pregnant women too:) Now, my mentor has got me started on Juice Plus, the choc and van that you add to milkshakes. Since I'm doing the whole fertility thing, I have been taking pre-natal type vitamins also, but I didn't like the prepackaged stuff, so I cont. to take the Garden of Life vitamins, folic acid, DHA supplement and cod liver oil for the vitamin D. (you just have to make sure ya don't overdose) I hope this helps. I guess I'm a wannabe health freak nerd. More info than you will ever need, but I love helping people be healthy!:)

I had such trouble with the neti pot at first, but I've been using it everyday for over a year now. I even bring it with me when I travel. Sometimes, I use it multiple times a day if it's allergy season, or if I feel myself getting sick. I've cut down on allergy medicine, which is nice.
Presently, I've been under the weather, but my big problem is coughing. Too bad the neti pot doesn't help so much with that!

I'm a big believer in using both natural and medicinal remedies. I go to an acupuncturist regularly, too.

Hope you all feel better! Hope Curtis is successful with the neti pot.

I love my neti pots. I have one for each of my kids - ages 8 and 6 - and they have been using them for about 2.5 years! We have bad allergies at our house with both the kids and myself and this has been a life saver for us. We also started taking Oil of Oregano and have been enjoying the best (if that term can be used) allergy season as of yet.

Enjoy and remember to breath with your mouth open otherwise you'll feel like you are drowning!!

Kim S.--So sorry about Sassy. Prayed for you today!

Okay, I have a couple GREAT tried-and-true natural remedies.

First, for hiccups--if you're not allergic to peanuts, a heaping spoonful of peanut butter coats your throat and, in our experience, hiccups almost always go immediately away (Besides, what a great excuse for a scoop of peanut butter right out of the jar!) I have another one for peanut-allergic friends, but it's a little more complicated.

Second, for colds--this one needs to be taken on the FIRST day of a cold, so it may be too late for this round. But for next time. . . when you first get symptoms, combine 1/2 mug of straight lemon juice fresh-squeezed, 1/2 mug hot water, 1 clove of garlic, some honey, and a sprinkling of chili powder. Tastes a little nasty, but totally works. There are reasons for each ingredient, but I'll spare you all that.

Also--my doctor told me I should NOT take raspberry tea or chamomile tea during my pregnancy, as it could induce labor early and cause a miscarriage. Has anyone else heard that?

My husband uses his neti pot too. He's not allowed to use it if I'm within 50 feet though ( we have not been to court to make this official, but he knows to follow through, or else there are severe consequences) Our three children have watched this procedure in our downstairs bathroom that only they use, and have tried to explain it to me. I cut them off before they give me details though. I'm glad we can "come out" with this now. I'd been feeling somewhat alone and now feel freedom with you siestas. It's nice to not be alone.

When we were in language training in DC, our Ukrainian teacher gave my husband an entire procedure she promised would clear up his cold which involved the steaming of the sinuses (his got worse- she said it was because he didn't follow the directions). One thing that was in the "rules" was to wear a neck warmer at night (like the kind you use for skiing). He did, he does. I am personally skeptical (I mean, the old Soviet textbook taught that two portions of ice cream meant a guaranteed cold!), but he swears by it.

I have a friend who swears by eating a clove of garlic, but I'm not sure it would be good for those with a queazy stomach. If you have a cough, I suggest a teaspoon of honey. It works wonders....I give it to my kids instead of cough syrup at night when they start those coughing fits from cold/flu. It works better than cough syrup in my opinion.

velma96 said...

I use both - meds (or "drugs" as I lovingly refer to them), as well as "Sinu-Rinse" which is a squeeze bottle that you squirt up your nose. It does the same thing as a neti-pot. The main thing I've learned is to make sure the water is warm (but not too warm). If it's too warm, you burn the inside of his nose, if it's cold, you feel like you're drowning...

Prairie Rose said...

I've read about this neti pot thing elsewhere, and I have to say, it just sounds too disgusting to me to even try, and I am ALWAYS looking for natural remedies to avoid taking any kinds of meds if at all possible, so if I'm not willing to try the neti pot, that's really saying something.

That said, who NEEDS a neti pot when you don't ever get a full-blown cold? At the first hint of a cold (a sore throat, or a few sneezes) I go through the following regimen:

1) 1000 mg of Vitamin C every few hours

2) echinacea (370 mg) about 3-4 times throughout the day

3) peroxide in ears, and also a swish of it in the mouth and gargling.

And it never goes any further than a slightly runny nose for a day or so.

I work with toddlers who snot around constantly, sneeze on me, put their mouths all over everything we're both touching, and other things too gross to mention, and seriously, this works. I don't get full-blown colds ever since beginning this plan.

And that means -- no neti pot! :o)

But you gotta catch those colds EARLY.

This is going to sound like the craziest thing but this works for me.

1 pound of bacon
1 can of stewed tomatoes

Cut the bacon into 2" pieces and fry "soft" in a large soup pot. Drain the bacon greese off and add the tomatoes & corn. Heat.

Serve as a soup; delicious, smells wonderful and you will feel so much better the next day.

I am also a rabid fan of Airborne and take it at the first hint of a sniffle.

Oregano is the understated natural miracle herb. I buy "Oregomax" which comes from the Mediterranean and is most pure. No one in our family has been to a doctor to get antibiotics in well over 7 years. You can get Oregomax at any health food store. We start using it at the onset of a cold or sinus infection before it has a chance to take hold. We always keep a bottle on hand, we travel with it, and send it off with our son as he heads off to college. It's a sure cure and beats an office and prescription co-pay.

Ok, this is an awesome opportunity (Thanks Amanda ;0) ) to tell you all about Chiropractic care. I know I know...you are thinking what is a "back" doctor going to do with my headcold, or my asthma, or my indigestion??? Well, actually chiropractic has EVERYTHING to do with your body. Chiropractic is not a head or neck pain reliever, chiropractic takes care of your nervous system. Every organ, tissue, bone, whatever, your body is controlled by the health or lack of health of your nervous system. If your nervous system has ANY sort of hindrance - the nerve flow...power from the brain carried all throughout the body - your body is not going to function properly. Chiropractic care removes those hindrances to your nervous system, allowing your body to naturally fight off any dis-ease that attacks the body...thus the NATURAL remedy.

May the Healer touch your bodies quickly and mightily!

Hi Amanda,

Yes, we have one of those netti-pots, and after my first time using it, I decided I wouldn't use it again, if I could help it! Bleah!

I'm not sure about colds, but for a sore throat, my Mom always tells me to warm up some water, then add lots of honey and lemon juice. Then, drink it while it is still warm to "hottish". Also, gargling with salt water helps somewhat, too. And, the ultimate stuff that my Mom says to use for sore throats is vinegar and water, warmed up and to gargle with it... It gags me, but it does help some.

Praying you all feel better soon.

I take Juice Plus religiously, but I still get sick once or twice a year. It has helped me to drink Echinacea tea several times a day when I am sick, and if I take AirBorne right as I start to get sick, it usually does the job.
My mom is a big honey and vinegar concoction person, but I don't use it. My kids are all big, but I remember those colds when I was pregnant. I'm so sorry!!!!!

I have found that eating by your blood chart not only helps you lose weight naturally, keep it off with no trouble, but also you will never have another food allergy again. If you know your blood type, mine being O+, you can go to most health food stores and ask them for a blood chart for your type. On that chart it will tell you by your blood typing the foods that your body likes, will endure, and does not like at all. The foods that your body type agrees with are actually healing foods and when you eat them, lets just say broccoli for instance, the more you eat the more you are naturally healing your body and making it better. If your body rejects let's say corn or wheat, then the more you eat, the sicker you stay or become. Your body will renew itself in a short amount of time so why not feed it food that will make it stronger and stronger instead of sicker or staying the same.

And also as a sidenote, I have a prayer request for my Pastor and his wife, which is one of my closest friends. There five year old son Isaac or "Ike" is very sick right now in the hospital with nephritis and a couple of other things. His kidney is swollen to the size of an adults and his urine is purple. He is so tired of getting stuck and probed and his momma and dad are being troopers but they are really tired and really need your prayers. Thank you so much...

I have to second the recommendation for the Neil-Med sinus wash as opposed to the neti-pot. I can't quite wrap my mind around the pot (and don't want to), but the sinus wash can be helpful. If you can't stand the thought of that, there's always the saline sprays (brands are Ocean, Little Noses, or your friendly generic). You just spray the saline up your nose - much easier than the neti pot, my very sensitive 5-year-old doesn't even mind it. I have year-round allergies and I'm 7 months pregnant, and I very much rely on the saline in addition to Claritin, Sudafed and occasional Benadryl. As you can tell, I have nothing against the medicine side of the house, just want to use whatever works!

I am a natural remedies person. I jumped on the bandwagon about a year ago and I ma not getting off without a major shove!! I love it!! The one thing I try to get everyone I know to do is the neti pot. It really does work, you just might be so clogged up it is having a hard time getting through all the gunk in there. I got all three of my brothers to give it a try on our family camping trip this summer. I even held a bowl to collect the stuff so they could see how gross it was. Good family bonding!!

Hope you all feel better. I don't think I'd be brave enough to try one of those pots. I'll stick to my over-the-counter cold meds.

Push beyond the weirdness of the Neti pot and use it. The end result is wonderful! Really opens you up so you can breathe! I mean it, it works!

I am also pregnant and due in February. I just got over a really bad cold and both my OB and the pharmacist say regular Sudafed (NOT Sudafed PE) is okay to take and it saved me. I was able to breath and sleep at night. You have to ask for it behind the pharmacy counter. Good luck.

That is so funny. I can't believe you posted about the neti pot. Some folks my hubby works for have been trying to convince him to use it. He has frequent sinus infections so he's thinking it couldn't hurt. It does sound good in theory but he's not quite convinced.

As for me, give me the meds. Afrin for my stuffy nose, mylanta for my upset stomach and prescription cough syrup with a touch of codeine for good measure for my chest congestion. All of that in addition to my mama's recipe for homemade chicken soup which is totally good for what ails ya (and for what doesn't ail ya, it's just good!).

Hope you're both feeling better soon.

I have allergies and bad sinuses. The combination had me getting at least six sinus infections a year. Five years ago an ENT told me to try the irrigation thing. I do it every morning while my coffee brews. I now have a max of two sinus infections each year. Totally worth it.

Oh honey,

If you think that neti pot is strange, you DO NOT want to hear about this granola chick's favorite natural product!!! I LOVE it (and I am not even kidding!!) and am always trying to convince my friends to get one too. Trust me - it will change your life too! (And make your mom's neti pot seem oh so pale and normal in comparison!)

Check it out:
http://www.divacup.com/

(And I do own a neti pot - just got it and haven't had to use it yet).

Don't worry - my feelings won't be hurt if you choose not to approve this message. You probably don't want to advertise feminine hygiene products on this site. But just remember - you asked!!! :) :)

All I can say is you've got to be pretty miserable to intentionally put water up your nose! Isn't that what we normally try to avoid? It makes my eyes water and gives me the urge to sneeze just thinking about it... Ouch!!

I was leery of the neti pot as well. Made me gag the first time, but the next time I was a pro. :)

Nasal spray (not just saline solution) is my VERY BEST FRIEND when I have a cold. Used it with all four pregnancies and my kids all turned out fine. :) (For the most part.)

The neti pot does work!! Be brave, be adventuresome. Stand over that sink and pour it in! You will be thankin' later, I am tellin' ya :)

Anyways, I am a natural remedy kind of gal and I got a remedy from a friend that is good for ears, nose or throat stuff. It is equal parts white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol. Mix together and put about 2 drops in each ear a couple of times a day. Now you have to make sure it gets in the ear canal. I do it for my kiddos also, anytime there is a slight sniffle, the ear drops go in. It is usually best to do it when you first get symptoms to kind of nip in in the bud, but you can still do it this late in the game as well. One tip though the mixture is only good 24 hours because the alcohol evaporates out of it so that is why I usually only mix a 1/4 teaspoon each. Neti-pot paired with ear drops and you got a winning team!!

I work with some ladies who think the netti pot is wonderful. I just feel that while at the pool I work very hard to keep water out of my nose, and don't feel that I need to shoot any up there. Although that had I heard of the thing when I was pregnant, i might have tried it. I got the worst allergy/cold right at the beginning. I hated taking meds too, but my doc said that tylenol cold/allergy was ok.

Enjoyed the story thoroughly. So sorry about the sink. I have a doozie about my dh, tick fever and my vehicle, but I'll spare you.

Hope you all start to feel better, and that Jackson is spared.

Oh, I'm sure none of these are ok when preggo, but echinacea and zicam work well. Also, they make these things that you plug into the wall and it disperses vicks into the air - works well for my son.

Thanks for the story.

Ew! I have horrible allergies but I'm not doing anything that my make me upchuck. I avoid that like the plague. Of all the issues I've encountered in the recovery ministry I'm involved in I really don't get bulimia. Why would anybody do that on purpose? I do anything and everything to avoid it, even when I know I'd probably feel better if I did. I hate it! I really, really hate it!! I do like some natural remedies if they work and don't make me hurl. Otherwise I'm heading to the medicine cabinet. I'm a big believer in drugs. My mother in law is a big believer in everything natural including natural childbirth. After doing that "natural" once I wasn't even in hard labor when I went to the hospital with the next 2 I told them to call the anesthesiologist (or whatever they call him. I call him the candyman.) as soon as I walked through the door. Cause I may not have been in a lot of pain right then but I KNEW what was coming!! In fact, halfway through my first labor I grabbed my husband and said, "I know I said I was going to try to do this natural, but I can't do this. I'm dying. I need drugs." Unfortunately he was in surgery and by the time he got out it was too late. Even while they were setting up for delivery I was saying, "I can't do this without drugs. I can't do this without drugs." They assured me I could and of course I did, but I'm still in shock. Anyway, I've gone off on this natural vs. drugs thing. I'll shut up now.

If you are still reading comments, I want to add to the "keep trying the neti pot" camp. It does it easier and it DOES work! Also, putting Vicks on your chest and neck before bed is the best way I know to keep everything "loose". The secret is to put layers on top--a dry wash cloth, a tight fitting tee shirt, then a nighty. In the morning get into a steamy shower--you will cough up nastiness, but you will feel much better and heal faster. Praying you both have a speedy recovery.

Oh Amanda, I am cracking up right now! I am not laughing at you...I am laughing with you!

You see, my husband too is enthrolled with the neti-pot. He was first introduced to it by an 89 year old woman in our church! He was doing a pastoral visit and explaining about his allergies and stuffy noses. She said that she saw it on Oprah and that it really works! So, he went out that day and bought one.

He too first used it over our kitchen sink... And breathing at the right time is critical! Now he uses it in the shower and says that he feels like a new man! He is so funny talking about this new phenomenon!

But like you, I'm not about to take this challenge yet. The best thing that I can offer you is prayer- Being pregnant and not being able to take anything with a cold is not fun!

Hope you feel better soon!!!!

I love this post! You make me laugh so hard.

BIG TIP--I've been through two sinus surgeries gals. The first one didn't work. Awesome. I'm a medicine cabinet gal, but my second ENT (one of the best in the country) recommended NeilMed Sinus Rinse Kit. Cut & paste to search on walgreens.com. Still natural, but much easier than the neti pot. Sorry Beth.

I suggest Curtis moves the operation from the kitchen sink to the bathroom, and never, ever do it in front of one's spouse. Unless it is your intention to kill the romance for a night or two.

I'm praying that you feel better, Amanda!

Chicken soup is what you need, girlfriend. And the best chicken soup in the world is the Vietnamese variety called “pho.” It is so aromatic and has a little bit of heat (always good for congestion). Give yourself a minute to “linger” over a steaming bowlful and you will be feeling better in no time. As for the stomach thing, when I was expecting my first, I lived on saltine crackers and tea.

Unfortunately I'm one of those that medicine does not help. Over the years I've tried every pain killer, sinus medicine, allergy medicine, you name it I'm used it. Nothing works. I have learned that when I get sick.. which is rare... just let it run its course and it will go away eventually. Not really my choice but there is no sense in spending money on medicines that do not work. I'm in my 50's and I've learned to just deal with it.

Airborne! Airborne! Airborne!
It works best for me when I start taking it at the very first sign of a sniffle or scratchy throat.
(once in the morning for a good week). If I start early enough, I'm convinced it often keeps me from getting sick.

But if you're full blown sick already it will still help - then I do one in the am & one late afternoon.
I use about 1/4 cup of water to dissolve one tablet & then I add some ice & drink it down. (just tastes like a lemon-lime soda that's only got a little fizz left in it)
FEEL BETTER!
Blessings & prayers....

My husband and I both 55 years old/married 34 years started going to a MD/ND in 2004. She was a doctor in the Air Force for 20-some years before opening her own practice. She blends traditional and naturopathic medicine. The ND side has given us life and changed our lives for the better. She doesn't use any meds which are synthetic. She's all natural. It works every time and protects our bodies rather than stressing them. We've learned that what God intended (natural) is better than what man sometimes creates when using chemicals and synthetics. Since going to this doctor we hardly ever get colds or get sick. It's a matter of applying a raised level of consciousness about what goes into or on to our bodies that has made the difference. Check out your area for a organic/health food store. They will have healthy remedies. Try adding honey, fresh squeezed lemon juice and fresh shredded ginger to bowling water. Sip it down. The ginger is hugely healing and of course natural. With flu season coming and colds already going around it's good to keep this homeopathic medicine at hand -- Oscillococcinum. Again, find a health food store and access what they offer for colds, etc. They will know what is safe for someone who is pregnant. By the way, we are Nana and Granddaddy to two beautiful grandsons. One is soon to be 3 in November. The other just over 1 year. Wishing you all health and soul-deep joy!

I have the nasal irrigation thingy. Same thing really but it squirts the water into your sinuses, a little more pressure. I started using it when I was pregnant and couldn't do anything else to help the congestion. For me a constant sinus sufferer it has been awesome. There have been 4 times since when I felt a sinus attack coming on, used the nasal rinse system twice a day and never got a full on sinus infection. I didn't just feel a little better it seems to downright cure it. Still it took maybe a week of using it before you see "progress" and yes you can lose your lunch over it but again it was worth it long term!

I was surprised at how well it did work though and use it as maintainance, since I clean houses for other people and sometimes the dog hair is terrible!

I forgot to comment that having an auto-immune disorder like I do (ITP Ideopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura-my immune system kills off my blood platelets) I have to be super careful about what I take (Vitamin C is a big no-no for me). I can't take anything to stimulate my immune system since it's already aggressive and kills off everything, even the good stuff. Suggestions are good but like anything, check it out first and make sure that you don't take anything that reacts to another.

Dear Amanda & Siestas,
I think the neti pot works better for some than others depending on what the congestion is from. I have chronic sinusitis with no allergies, had roto-rooter surgery and tried the neti pot - no luck. Best thing for me is a decongestant on overcast days and a nasal spray that seems to keep the passages open to (hopefully)keep infection from starting.
On a different note, could we siestas be in prayer this week for the upcoming election and the financial crisis we're hearing about? God is really burdening me what a serious time this is for our country.
Thank you!

My husband does the Vicks on the bottom of his feet at night - and that seems to help his sinus problems. Don't know why.

And one day when I felt a cold coming on pretty strong, I got a 2-liter bottle of Sprite Zero and commenced to polishing it off over the course of the afternoon. The next day I was all better. Coincidence? I don't think so!

I have a cold right now! I'm a firm believer in Zicam. Not the sissy stuff you spray in your throat... the kind you spray up your nose (read the directions or someone might be losing a meal over someone's kitchen sink). It is just zinc... but it goes straight into the sinus passage & actually shortens a cold by about 70%. So... I only have to suffer a couple of days, rather than a week and a half.

Now, my manfriend thinks I need to try one of those neti pots. I'm still thinking about it.

Well, I do something similar with a bulb syringe and warm salt water. This works wonderfully. But, my most favorite remedy that works like a charm is: a spoon for cramps. Yes, I said a spoon. I know this is going to sound horribly faithless of me, but because I always get hit so hard, my mantra is usually "Give me drugs!" Don't get me wrong, I hold out without them as long as I can. And while I'm still coherent I manage to string together a few sentences of prayer, but once it really hits me I'm knocking folk over on my way to the cold/allergy aisle at the CVS... I do go back and repent later!

I'm with you with the Dayquil/Nyquil combo works wonders and allows me to function and to rest.

As for the neti pot... I have issues with putting my head under water in the pool, so I'd say it's safe to assume I won't be trying that method... LOL!

Sometimes they throw off my balance for a couple of hours but all in all I recommend them (of course check with the doctor first as I didn't use mine when I was prego). I will say that a cold causes junk in the trunk all over your head. Clearing that junk out is the only way to go!!

Some things I do for me and my kids when we're trying to minimize the use of over-the-counter medicines (our issues may differ from yours; we deal with stuffy noses and chests, sometimes a sore throat, allergies, asthma-type symptoms)....
-- Drink lots & lots of water to increase the fluids going through our bodies, like maybe about a half gallon in a day (for an adult, less for a child).
-- Drink orange juice for vitamin C, preferably fresh-squeezed.
-- Have chicken soup; the hot broth opens up some breathing passages; the salt helps sore throats.
-- Avoid dairy products (milk, cream, mayonnaise, cheese--not helpful at all when you have congestion or a stuffy nose) and rich foods like chicken fried steak with cream gravy; fats are harder for the body to digest, I think.
-- Avoid sugar and sweets in general, as they might make it harder for your body to recover...they aren't so good for sore throats, as bacteria feeds on sugar.
-- Eat simple, light foods. We try to eat more veggies & fruit (without butter or creamy sauces/dressings), whole grains & rice/pasta, lean meats, chicken broth.
- Get some steam, maybe from a shower, to open up breathing passages.
- Try to get a little extra rest/sleep.
- Try to get decent quality air, if possible (esp. if symptoms might be allergy-related); we turn on the HEPA air purifiers at home a little more.

I've heard great things about the neti pots, too. (But I'm not motivated enough to try it just yet.)

Hope y'all feel better soon!
