While Edouard Drops By Town

Hey, Siestas! While many of you are doing the usual thing, a lot of us in the Houston-Galveston area are holed up in our homes waiting for Tropical Storm Edouard to drop by town. (What was someone thinking? If it's coming to Texas, it would be more aptly named Tropical Storm Bubba. If you must call it "Edouard," please roll a very long "r.") I was planning to take a much needed day off but I'd intended on doing it at the Galleria shopping with AJ while our darling Jackson was at Mother's Day Out. As it turns out, most of the LPM staff has been instructed to stay home and only a few that live just down the street from the ministry are going to the office. It's really not a day for getting your shopping bags to the parking lot of a large mall. It's that kind of day when your umbrella turns inside out (I hate when that happens) and you nearly do the Mary Poppins.

So here we are at the Moore home, rain peppering against the windows: Keith, Amanda, Jackson, Beckham (very large sweet, sweet Golden Retriever), Queen Esther (AKA: Star - 3 month-old very happy, very active Border Collie), Angelina (AKA: Geli, Keith's 2 month old German Shorthair - ADORABLE and has the cutest antics. She acts a lot like a bucking bronco at this point) and Little Fig (no trouble at all, mostly just causes AJ a few waves of nausea at this point). Curtis is speaking at a camp so he's missing all the action. Amanda adds: Pics of the puppies are coming soon! They're on my laptop but it's at my house.

These are some highlights from the morning:
*Amanda very sweetly and patiently to Jackson at the breakfast table with his fruit cocktail: "Son, when you need to wipe off your hands, can we use a napkin instead of your hair?" (There's not a bit of fresh fruit in the house. That's why he had to have fruit cocktail. I hate having to feel guilty. And I hate fruit. Come to think of it, I do have cherries but Amanda swears they were the very things that caused the Great Diaper Blow-out of 2008.)

*It is 10:40 and AJ is on her third breakfast. Amanda adds: First my toast and canadian bacon, then Jackson's uneaten toast, and finally some Cocoa Pebbles.

*The TV is messing up because of the storm so we're watching Lion King. Jackson loves it. It only took Amanda a record 17 seconds to start crying. That "Circle of Love" opener gets her every time. Amanda adds: Um, that would be "Circle of Life."

*I've given Jackson some multicolored stick notes to amuse himself and the room is well wallpapered in them. If you really squint, it kinda has that stained glass look. Now Jackson's mad. A green one is stuck to his heel.

*I'm hungry but I can't think of what I want to eat. Since Edouard decided to drop by at the very last minute, we just weren't prepared with the great snacks I prefer for a long hold up. Most of what's in the kitchen are the extra ingredients we didn't need for our LPM lunch feast by Melissa last week. Today we can eat all the Ricotta Cheese and dill weed we want. (Don't call CPS. We have plenty of Jackson food. It's me I'm whining about.) Amanda adds: I'm not gonna lie. I got excited when I saw Spaghetti-O's with meatballs in the pantry this morning. That's what I'll be having.

We love you. We hope you love us. Especially today. We need love.

UPDATES: (I know you are sitting on pins and needles.)
*Yes, Mr. Ed it is. Very good, Siestas. Very good indeed. I should have thought of that myself. I was late taking my vitamins this morning or I would have.

*Many rousing rounds of hide and seek. Oh, the joy Bibby brought Jackson when she hid in the dog crate.

*Keith went to the store! What a man!!! Groceries galore!! Fruit for the Mister: Grapes, nectarines, strawberries. Snacks for AJ and me: moon pies, stuff for queso. Real food for Keith to actually cook. Ick.

*AJ is eating spaghetti-o's with meatballs.

Please, stay tuned. This is liable to be a nail biter.

*Yes, that's exactly what we'll do with the Ricotta. Almond flavoring and almonds. Yep. Great idea. Y'all are brilliant. I'm not doing that tomato thing though. That would require cooking. And my oven mitt is out on the bike seat.

UPDATE FROM MELISSA IN ATLANTA:
UM, I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MY MOM. I ASKED HER HOW SHE WAS DOING AMIDST THE TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE EDOUARD AND SHE ANSWERED LIKE A THIRTEEN YEAR OLD. SHE SAID, "WELL, I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO BORED, MELISSA." AND THEN SHE SAID SOMETHING THAT REALLY SCARED ME. SHE SAID, "OH, AND I JUST BAKED A CAKE." YOU KNOW WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT THAT MY MOM IS BORED TO TEARS WHEN SHE BAKES A CAKE FOR NO GOOD REASON. WELL, I GOTTA GET BACK TO MY RESEARCH...SOME PARTS OF THE COUNTRY ACTUALLY HAVE TO GO TO WORK TODAY. LORD, THAT THIS EDOUARD WOULD PASS SO THAT I COULD GET SOME OF MY BRAIN CELLS BACK.

Beth: WELL, THEN ALL OF YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE REASON I AM SO BORED IS BECAUSE AMANDA AND JACKSON ARE SOUND ASLEEP AND HAVE BEEN FORRRRRRR-EVERRRRRRRRRR. AND YOU MIGHT AS WELL ALSO KNOW THAT I HOME MADE CHOCOLATE ICING FOR THAT CAKE, TOO. IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'D SMELL IT AND WAKE UP. MAYBE I'LL TRY TO TAKE A NAP, TOO. OR MAYBE I'LL JUST HAVE ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE.

3:00 PM. Amanda and Jackson still asleep. Watching Rachael Ray. (Why? Because I just baked a cake, didn't I???) Did you know you can get Ecoli (sp?????) from your purse?

7:40 PM. 20 minutes before Jackson's bedtime. All three dogs look like very happy drowned rats...and smell like them, too. Keith is watching the hunting channel acting like the rest of us aren't here. He earned that right after making King Ranch Chicken for all of us for dinner. And used every pan in the kitchen. I'm sending those to Washington State, too. All of our hair looks like lightening struck the house and we were all holding golf clubs. Amanda and I are in the corner of the kitchen floor playing matchbox cars with a two and a half year old who does not appear to be in the remotest ballpark of sleepy. We knew we were descending into delirium when, a few minutes ago, we broke out in an impromtu duet of the 80's version of "Pass It On" with our best Tiny Tim voices. To which Jackson yelled, "NOOOOOOOOOO!"

Oops. The matchbox car just broke.

Amanda's having more cake.

It's the circle of love.

haa haa haa

I actually thought about you all (oops, I mean y'all) when I was watching the news this morning.
You can always think of today as an investment day. Since you are not out shopping, you can invest in family time (which is a hoot), and save the $ you would have spent on a shopping spree...for a GRANDER shopping spree...woo hoo.

ps...don't those storms usually have female names?

Praying God's protection on y'all. Oh my, am I getting the Texas accent from hanging with y'all so much? I don't even hear BEth's accent anymore. I asked the ladies that I went to the simulcast with if Beth had lost her accent because i don't hear it like I used to. They resounded with NOOO! One said she had a hard time understanding at first but gradually got used to it. :)
Love your family so much and thanking God that you're able to ride Eduoarrrrrrrd out together.

Well, Moore clan, we do love you!! Hopefully Edouard will leave quickly and not cause too much angst!!

I wanted to tell you about something that happened at our simulcast location in Blairsville, Georgia--just a couple of hours north of Melissa. I posted this on Travis' blog but thought I comment here as well.

Our Director of Media Ministries, Wes, is such a godly man but he is also very quiet and very, very intense. Doesn't say much unless asked and then it is pretty low key. He did a fantasic job with the simulcast and seemed to enjoy it a lot.

On Sunday evening at church he told me that during Travis' invitation version of "In Christ Alone" he worshipped more deeply than he had worshipped in a very long time. That just blessed my little Georgia heart!! I had never thought much about it but the media people probably don't get to truly worship during most services and events because they are so focused on making sure everything goes well.

All the work of the simulcast from my end (I'm the Women's Ministries director) was soooooo worth it just to hear Wes say that he was able to worship!!

So, thanks to you and Travis for an awesome time this past weekend!!

Now, a bit of concern about our favorite Siesta. You look pretty darned skinny. Have you sworn off Mexican food and started dieting or are you having morning sickness with AJ?? Maybe it was just the beautiful swing coats you wore for the simulcast!!

See you in San Antonio!!

Hey can I have some spaghetti-o's and meatballs too!!??? That's good stuff, almost as good as the canned Campbell's spaghetti, which I buy "for the kids" but I love it too.

Praying you stay safe and snug, and that you get your shopping day sometime soon.

Love to all

Praying for y'alls safety today! Do you not have any rotel, velveeta and tortilla chips on hand? Seriously, I think I'm a little disappointed in you but I'll try to get over it.

I like a homebound day a couple of times a year so I'm a little jealous, I'll try to get over that as well. (I know I have issues :-0 )

Enjoy your time together and the Spaghetti-O's, Amanda...I'm sure Little Fig will love those!

Beth, God so spoke to me through you at the Simulcast. I can't even begin to tell you, tearing up just thinking about it. My hand is over my heart. God is teaching me so much. I pray my girls walk a different path than I did, but above that, I pray that they truly KNOW my Sweet Father and his unfailing, unchanging love. God has His hand on them.

I will stop now because I'm sure I could write you a book, you have no idea what your honesty and transparency have meant to me.
God bless you and your sweet family, today!!

I am competently competent, a woman of means and substance!

I am idiotically jealous. Yes, jealous. I would love to be holed up in a house with a storm brewing outside! Maybe I think that just because I simply have no clue. Okay, maybe I need to think this through a little more. Tropical storms can turn to hurricanes and they are no good.

I live in California, you see. We don't get storms that can blow you clear across the state. We don't even get lightening and thunder (okay, maybe once every 5 years). Our excitement comes through earthquakes and that type of excitement isn't the kind I like. I just want the rain and the lightening and the thunder. I miss that from my days living in the midwest!!

I'm thinking of all of you. Love to you, prayers for safety, and figuring out what nice little meal you can make out of ricotta and dill . . . good luck on that one! LOL!!!

Love you bunches,
Laura from CA

You had better believe that cherries make for some seriously hideous diapers. My son Ethan is Jackson's age, and we'd no sooner give him cherries than we would motor oil. Not that he'd eat them--if it's not Cheerios, an Eggo waffle or French fries he's not interested.

having lived 37 years in the panhandle of Florida, I can honestly say I love me a good tropical storm or category 1 hurricane. it's SO cozy in the house with all the wind and rain.
(the bummer is the tv going in and out though, you're right.)

one year, my little ones were
in their jammies with me in the kitchen while a cat 1 storm was outside... we had so much fun playing in the tupperware cabinet. I ended up reorganizing the whole thing and had MATCHING LIDS WITH BOWLS when we were done! anything that didn't have a match was put in a pile for the salvation army.

that was such a fun storm.

(we have friends from out of town here and are on our way to the army base where my husband works, so their little boys can play in the blackhawk helicopters!)

I know you're enjoying your day together there.
These are the best memory makers.

Glad to hear ya'll are all safe. I couldn't help but think of you when they mentioned the storm on the news. I attended the simulcast at our church over the weekend and God spoke directly to my heart and soul. When I read my notes from the simulcast, I can't help but hold my hand over my heart because I know the enemy would love steal it all away. It truly is amazing how God finds us right where He wants us when we need it the most! Thank you for bringing HIS message to so many of us. God bless each and every one of you.

Sometimes God just gives us those "treat" days of being holed up with our favorite people. I'm "holed up" as well, here in Oklahoma, NOT because of a tropical storm but because it is so stinkin' hot! (Now who's whining?)
Enjoy your day in, and I'm praying for your safety, too.
I'd rather eat Spaghettios and watch Lion King with people I love in a hurricane than be pampered and miserable in a 4 star resort.

I'll be thinking of you stuck inside while I try to keep my babies (ages five and seven) from fighting like cats and dogs- what exactly is it about the heat that makes them fight? lol
Oh, and LOVED the simulcast. Took a friend who was going through a crisis, and she was deeply touched and recharged to keep on the right path! Thanks for getting up on that stage... So loved the simulcast and the word that God gave you. It so encouraged me to hold tightly to the seeds that God has placed in my heart. And the story of the pups and the stick was just priceless. I had to tell it to my small group and they had a good laugh to.

Much love, love, love to you!!!!

We all know what you are going through over here. (I live directly across the gulf from you, in southwest Florida, right next to the coast.) Our times to "hunker down", as they say here, are in late August. We feel you pain and your anxiety. Storms can change at any moment, and if it misses you, the relief you feel is followed by grief for the other people it affects. We will be praying for you all-- that God would use this time to bring everyone close together, without destruction. I can remember a storm that moved through a few years ago, and after we lost power, we lit candles and kerosene lanterns. When the power came back on a day later, the kids wanted to keep the candles burning, because it reminded them of Christmas. I pray that God will bless your time together and keep you all safe.

Ooo, and my first memory comes from Hurricane Hugo. I was 2-years-old and my brothers were looking out the window with flashlights. I slept through most of it, though. Beth,

Sending all of you some serious love! It's so hard to have to wait out one of those stormy days in Houston... especially when Westheimer is calling!!! :)

I remember when I was a student at HBU (back in the 80's... long before Curtis and AJ were there) that Fondren would flood like nobody's business! (Of course so did everywhere else in Houston!) I even remember once a couple of the gymnasts who lived next door to me in the old HBU apartments getting out a rubber raft when Fondren at Beechnut had to be closed after a large rain. They were having a big time dunking each other in the flood water and so forth... The Post came out and even got a picture of it!!! (I think I still have that tucked in one of my yearbooks...)

Hang in there... :) It'll all be over before you know it and you can go down to the Crate and Barrel to find something sweet for Lis... Is there still a Neiman-Marcus down there??? I used to love that place, but couldn't afford anything in the store... I think I bought a potholder once, just so I could say that I had something from Neiman's! LOL

Amanda you have to have a peanut butter sandwich with the S-Os - dip it in the sauce! Nothing better for a pregnant woman!

Here's a big hug for you all today including those precious puppies! Loved seeing their pictures during the simulcast. Speaking of simulcast...WOW! We did not want it to end. The Lord was very present and we received many NOW words. The table in front of ours was a group of hearing impaired ladies & when their amazing sign interpreter began her signing during the powerful music...the tears did flow. Their worship was just beautiful. You should have seen all those Greek words being signed! :)

Send some of that rain to North Texas...even a little breeze would help. We're melting here!

Bless you all...Your faithfulness to His call is such a blessing to soooo many! You and your family are loved & appreciated by so many.

Ya'll are so cute, I am so glad you can all be there together to ride out the storm. We are having storms here in WV today too, it is so dark. My daughter said she thought we were having a hurricane and I said no baby we don't have those in WV we just have thunder storms (she is 8). We are praying for all you guys in the tropical storm zone, be sweet and stay safe!

Wouldn't a big ole pot of homemade soup and Paula Deen's cheese biscuits just hit the spot right now? I might just have to brave the rain and go to the store.

Ricotta Cheese...Oh Girl, that could be heaven on earth. you could mix it with honey and some kind of almond and make a dessert or any kind of tomato and amake something italian. I KNOW YOU ALL ARE CREATIVE - DOWN TO THE DOGS!!!
The simulcast I hosted at my church was wonderful; we had a smidge of tech difficulty, but the women were so blessed and after talking to my pastor, who assured me NOTHING has ever gone perfectly for him at a church event (and he has been doing this for 10 years),I felt like the enemy tried REAL hard to get us derailed but the LORD was steady as a freight train and pushed through and we got a word (sometimes repeated - we were trying to find the channel for our time zone).
Beth you are always a blessing and the way you deliver never dissapoints, I talked to women who were not framiliar with you(WHAT!?)
and this was there very first time, they were BLOWN AWAY (sorry,EDOUARD).

God Bless, stay safe, and know that you ALL are always thought of.

LORD - we pray for the safety of Houston and surrounding areas. We pray for the storm to be gentle and dissappear. Keep everyone safe and dry and surrounded loved ones.
In Jesus name,
Amen

Beth,

We attended the simulcast this past weekend and was totally blessed. Every word spoken touched our heart. The declaration at the end where you had us speak over each other was so very precious. My daughter and I were there together so needless to say both of us crying and I can't remember the exact words of the declaration. Would you mind sending that on the blog. I have had several friends also interested.

By the way I have never commented before but I read your blog all the time. God is granting me a desire of my heart by getting to attend the San Antonio event with my daughter, and our two new daughters. (Our oldest son just married in May and our youngest son will be married in June 09). We are all coming from different directions but will spend the weekend together. I am so excited and blessed. Thank you for letting God speak a fresh word into our lives. Yes! You are loved and prayed for! Blessings over you all!

Hi Beth, Keith, Amanda, AJ, Baby Bump (I forgot her initials), and puppies!!

I am holed up too. Actually it's not storming here, but I was all set to fly back to AK today after a truly lovely visit with my Sister's family in Picayune, MS, but Tropical Storm Edouard (Bubba!) has changed our plans as well. Of course our connection is in Houston so nothin' doin' today. Now my son and I will be staying 2 more nights (no flight availability tomorrow). It's the good news, bad news scenario. It will be fun to extend our vacation a little longer, but my hubby and daughter are back home in AK and I am missing them! Plus my son (age 12) will miss his Taekwondo testing and have to wait another 2 months to test for his next belt. That's disappointing! But God is in control and we are going to make the best of it by partying. Ha!

I have to tell you that yesterday we went to a Lifeway bookstore in Biloxi (I think) and I had a "Beth Moore" field day.

Also, as soon as I got down here and my hair refused to do anything but misbehave (Frizzy & limp yuckness) I was trying my hardest to remember all your helpful hints. But sad to say, I hadn't paid much attention cuz I'm from AK and we just don't have to deal with hot and humid up there! Are you feeling my pain?? I also got some kind of alergic rash over my eyes and they were practically swollen shut yesterday morning. God certainly has a way of keeping us humble! ha!

Well, I've bladged on long enough. Thought you might like the extra reading material. Ha!

To steal a phrase from a sweet southern gal - I love you like crazy!

Jax in AK

I am very sorry to hear you are holed up! Between Jackson and the puppies, you should be entertained for some time. I have two Golden Retriever's (1 Year approx.)(Sisters, the oldest and the youngest from the same litter.) My parents used to give us Spaghettio's every time they got a babysitter for us! Yikes! As for the love: What's not to love? You are all so funny and loveable! I enjoy each of you so much. You act so normal (except you sweet Beth- you are abnormal, in a good sort of way!) Not to be alarmed Amanda- you and Melissa both can aspire to this abnormality! I am Weird and a bit Strange. I quote Bible verses at random, drive while raising my hands and singing "My Passion" with Travis in traffic, love deeply, and expect HUGE things from God. I keep Real Simple index cards with verses on them wherever I go. I have given away at least 10 full ones- about the time I finish one, He says:"Give it to such-and-such". I think so Highly of Him. My children (three girls, 17,12,10) are all aspiring to Weirdness. What a heritage! I have come to realize, that if you have Real Belief, you are Abnormal in a good way! I'm okay with that! I'd rather be Abnormal any day! God bless all of you Abnormally Normal Faith Speaking, Bible Praying, Declaring Praise People today. May the storm pass away from you, and may you get to the Mall soon! Love you all-

praying for ya'll today! I hope the storm goes by quickly and hopefully gives us some rain here in fort worth. This is my first summer in Texas, and OH MY WORD .. It's HOT and dry!

Just a little funny story! I'm from South Carolina and one of my college roomies was from Texas and we used to joke back and forth about which one was better. Of course, I fought saying SC was so much better and my roomie would fight back saying Texas was IT! She even gave me a magnet in the shape of Texas that said Don't Mess With Texas that I still have on my frig till this day. :) So.. all that to say when I moved to Texas in November I had to call her and she was OH SO THRILLED and hasn't stopped rubbing it in yet. She said she knew I would give in and just have to live in the great, perfect, most awesome state of Texas..

And for the record! I do like it here! :)

Beth,
My 21 year old son is in Houston for training and has never been in a tropical storm/hurrican! WE are from the Panhandle of Texas and all we have here is tornadoes and WE DONT NAME THEM! He called me from the Marriot downtown and was like...this is wierd (the hard wind and rain) and it has an even wierder name..but he couldnt remember what it was! He asked my just how in the world they name these things anyway so of course we had to GOOGLE to find out! :) (That was THE funniest story you told this weekend about the lady who was going to GOOGLE YOU!) We did not realize that they name them a boy name, then a girl name, then a boy name etc... you will be happy to know that the next one will be named FAY! But the one after that will be named GUSTAV! Now where in the world....???? From FAY to GUSTAV? Anywho... I will be praying for you and please pray for my little country son stuck down in the BIG CITY of Houston far from his momma! I love you girls to pieces! AJ, I LOVE pa-getitoes as that same son use to call them! Much love, Charlene Pampa, Texas

Hi! First time on the Blog. Went to the Simulcast in Lex, KY. Had a laugh this morning about the last day when you were talking about Keith....."...I'm getting mad just thinking about it...I know God's will for his life!!"

Oh you don't know how comments like that have been a blessing to me. I have one of those "uncontrollables" and sometimes I just think God is up there laughing (lovingly) at me. I also have a 4 year old boy who is showing signs of being just as uncontrollable. He was so sweet up until 3 and now, yes, James Dobson could learn a thing or two from him! :)

Anyway, you all keep safe and enjoy each other scrounging around for food!

Your Louisiana siestas know the feeling! And we could also use a little rain on our cotton and soybeans, but please, no wind to knock down our almost-ready-to-be-harvested corn! If I was close, I'd bring you my leftover chicken salad (prepared from one of Melissa's solicited siesta recipes - YUM!) But spaghettios sounds pretty darn good. Reminds me of my poor college days when a gourmet meal meant the chunky soup with the little tiny hamburgers with fake grill marks - remember those? Love and blessings to all (especially fig).

Beth - One more thing. I love how through your compassion and understanding for women all over, you help me see the beauty and possiblity in compassion and love. My pride can sometimes get in the way (Well, I've NEVER done that!!!) and I am always amazed how your style tends to soften my heart without seeing the attention in doing wrong and losing my focus. You are a powerful vehicle in which God uses to demonstrate that.
I just love you.

Sending gallons of LOVE your way!

Confession...Don't tell a soul. I'm Italian-American. Love Spaghetti-Os. My family would disown me if they found out. Yes, I make my own sauce and meatballs (not that I like to cook - just do it because it's expected)...and I love the good stuff, too. But sometimes, ya just have to open a can, nuke it and take a seat...God liked rest.

Okay...simulcast...fabulous! Glory, honor and praise to HIM! Boy, did He show up in a mighty way...even in hot and humid Jacksonville with dark clouds looming overhead...no signal problems PTL!

BTW, my mom asked me to kindly tell you, Sweet Beth, that you're getting too skinny. Now, granted...this is coming from an Italian-American mama, but she asked me to please mention to you to take care of yourself...Temple Maintenance. I was not going to mention it…actually made up my mind that it was not appropriate for me to mention it. I know it’s been a rough year for you. But, since another siesta brought it up...I was convicted. It is out of LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that I pass the concern along.

It's been such a great opportunity for us to share with each other the importance of God's word.

I love your illlustration of placing your hand over your heart to protect the Word.

Of course we love ya'll!!! Big hugs from Nashville today!! I have been wondering about you all and praying!!

What to comment about first: I think it's fun to hole up in the house sometimes, as long as no one gets hurt by a storm. This is why I always hope that God will bless us with one good snow every winter so we can hunker down and eat good food and watch movies , play cards, etc... of course if we get a dusting school is called off and all the bread and milk disappear off the shelves. CRACKS me up!!

I am excited to see pics of Geli!! I love dogs and they bring great joy and humor to our lives.

My special prayer for Amanda has been that God would stop the nausea and that she would enjoy eating! :) Blessings and prayers over Little Fig and Jackson. I am certain that little boys only know of wiping their hands in their hair and on their shirts. LOL!! I have 2 sons, I remember those days.

Way to go Keith for braving the elements and going to the store! I just got back from Kroger and had a buggy full. I have my third "son" visiting this week and I had to buy them a ton of snacks!! They are holed up in my youngest son's large room having a blast.

Moon pies, chocolate or vanilla? I lean toward chocolate. :)

ALSO, Beth, you have to know this and I have a question for you. This involves hair. For the first time I used root lifter today. I'm in love. heehee I think I heard your gasp! My question, can I use my mousse with it or not?

Okay Moore/Jones family, have a great day together and please update us on what Keith made you for dinner tonight!! I am thinking of making your pound cake but I am trying to go by your advice and stay out of the kitchen. So far I have done pretty good.
Much Love,
Patty

Stick notes, Beth? Aren't they stickey notes? I thought a stick note was the "get a clue" banter that Star had with Geli recently! (Loved that story from the simulcast... told my husband about, too. We so enjoy dog stories!)
Stay safe and have fun as you ride out the storm. I live on Florida's Gulf Coast... right where Charlie hit in 2004. That one turned out to be more than we bargained for, but, as a Gulf Coast resident yourself, you know that anticipating the storm is usually a time to hunker down with family, as well as get neighborly.
Sounds like you're doing just that and enjoying every minute of it (I hope AJ got a picture of Bibby in the dog crate!). LOL!

Howdy! Sorry about the change in plans, but I know it will be day full of fun memories you'll think of in future years. I have a 2 year old and if the time gets long today, I suggest an extra long bath- maybe with bubbles, some measuring cups etc. from the kitchen and just let him have water fun as long as he's interested!

I wanted to let you know how cool the simulcast was and I'm excited to be sowing the word during my husband's upcoming deployment and I generally feel more encouraged about the long separation coming up. In fact, I just got a booklet for spouses facing deployment from Officer's Christian Fellowship, guess what the verse is on the cover?? Psalm 126:6 "He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him." Is that cool or what?? God is just so neat! I think that will become my main verse to cling to for the next year.

Have a great day- I know you all will come up with some great memories! I hate to tell you it's still 72 and sunny here in San Diego.

Love,
Rebekah

I grew up in south Texas as a child and remember the excitement of a tropical storm. The highlights were gathering with as much family as we could squeeze into one house, putting on plays for the adults and eating loads of snacks without having to ask permission. Great Memories! Gotta love it! Stay safe, dry and playful!

Sweet Beth,

I just wanted to share a little miracle from the Simulcast. I attended the simulcast at a Church in Illinois. Before we left, the Womens Ministry director said that she, and the ladies that work with her had a little gift for us. It was a little card that had a seed attached to it in a plastic bag, but that was not all...On the card was printed one verse...LUKE 8:15... Can you believe that? I can!!! The WM director said that the Lord gave them that verse about 2 weeks prior to the event, and their mouths fell open when you first mentioned what scriptures you would be teaching on for the weekend. GOD IS AMAZING!!!

FYI: Your message from God this past weekend was a word for me (and countless others!). I will hide that word in my heart!!

Love you so, Kim

Stay safe :)

As warped as this may sound I kinda miss those storms roaring into the Gulf! My kids used to LOVE it - relatives coming up from Florida (running for their lives from a hurricane), lots of junk food and snuggling up watching movies...(until the power went out) and then running outside to see who could get the wettest in the least amount of time or who could grab the biggest chunk of hail.
.
Jackson is way too young (and hopefully will think things through to their logical conclusion) but when Ivan was on the way in a few years ago my kids tied the corners of a sheet to each wrist and the other two corners to their skateboards (yes, worked exactly as you'd expect in high winds) and my youngest just hopped on the skateboard with an umbrella.
.
Snuggle up and enjoy some movies and be thankful he doesn't have a skateboard! :)

I'll pretend I am on the topic and mention your storm so I hope the rain stops soon... but right now I am really wanting to get to another point... I am so sad that next year's LP Live event for Charlotte has been cancelled! I took my 12 year old to her 1st LP Live via simulcast last weekend and what a treat to get to close the session saying those words to what I hope will be part of my 100 fold harvest! She was captivated and her favorite part? Getting an understanding of the wonder of the fact that the Bible is literally God breathed! So thanks so much for the teaching and please, rethink the whole Charlotte thing :) we would love to have you!

Lots of love comin' your way from Ohio! I LOVE the mother-daughter post wit corrections and side notes from Amanda. I am falling over laughing. My mother and I would be exactly the same way.
I love a good hold up with tons of food. Rotel and velveta is my main squeeze on those days.
We were watching the weather this morning and my 4 year old daughter saw the map of Texas with the storm on the screen and asked if that is where we live. I said no that is Texas. So she asked if we know anyone in Texas. I answered "Beth Moore lives there" (she watches you with me every wednesday and sometimes attends bible study so she knows Beth Moore) My husband just looked over at me with one of those man looks that spoke very loudly that he thinks I am nuts! He just does not understand out sietaville relationships!
Can't wait for more updates!

And if you have any pull with Mr. Ed could you ask him to send some of that rain down to Austin? We are dry as bones here... my grass is brown... now that's just wrong.

Hey Beth and Amanda! I'm always amazed at the fact that when a hurricane comes ashore near Galveston ... that means its headed to Houston. When we lived there as newlyweds in 1983, there was a hurricane that summer(forget its name now but not Bubba) that brought power outages and major flooding to the streets. We lived on Westheimer, and I was driving to the Medical center (near Rice)to work, and the water was literally at the bottom of my car door. The traffic was so bad that after two hours in flooded streets, my car battery died and I had to be rescued and taken home. Do you remember the name of that hurricane? Very eery and loud tornado like sounds around 5 am!!! Why was I along with so many people trying to go to work that morning? I'm glad you are safe at home, and by the way, as much as I cook, my grown kids still love a bowl of spaghetti'os with franks sometimes. Amanda, I'm keeping you in my prayers during your pregnancy. The time will fly by with a busy 2 1/2 year old.
Much love from Atlanta!!!

Just in case- Some Fun things to do during Mr. Ed with a 2 year old: 1. take a 9X13 pan and spread Cool Whip lightly on the bottom. Show Jackson how to draw shapes on the fun edible "paper." (also works with pudding!)And yes, it's messy, but I'm pretty sure your little guy came in a washable cover! :)
2. Take some small water bottles (they can be full or empty), set them up at the end of a hallway, and let Keith and Jackson bowl. Anything round can be a bowling ball... the key is to cheer like mad when something gets knocked over. He'll love it!
3. Wrap up some of the toys that you already have and let Jackson rip them open. Is it his birthday? Nope. Does that really matter in the grand scheme of things? Nope!
4. This is a fun one. If you have a new box of tissues, let your big boy pull them all out. I know some folks might find this wasteful, but watch the fascination on his face as the tissues just keep coming out... it reminds you how God's mercies are new every morning.
Hope you have a memorable day!

Beth, I wanted an opportunity to tell you that I was in Luavul KY this weekend and you absolutely brought the Word siesta! I try to make it to at least one conference or simulcast a year and this one stands out and spoke volumes over me and everyone (30 + women from Knoxville TN) I've heard talk about it. You took those of us in Christ to the next level, while still speaking to the hearts of those just hearing for the first time. God sent you forth and you ROCKED! Thank you for your willingness to share with us on the blog, through written studies and in person. God's glory reflects greatly from all you and all the Living Proof staff do. Thank you!

Have a wonderful day with your family, taking shelter in the storm.

Ok - I need help with the whole root lifter thing.... Everyone else seems to love this stuff, but it's not working for me. Is it possible to use it incorrectly???? Perhaps I am impaired! Ha ha ha. I'm suffering with seriously uncooperative hair, and if it doesn't behave, I am sorely tempted to buzz it off...with the dog clippers.

Other question. I ordered a CD set from LPM this morning, and after lunch, I had an email with the UPS shipping info, which means someone must be there at LPM working, during the arrival of Mr Ed. Yikes! I'm worried...and praying for saftey.

Beth - I loved the part about you hiding in the dog crate. Was Esther confused or jealous because of this???

Hi Sweet Beth,
To jog your memory, I got to meet you backstage in Louisville, twice actually, our work will cause our paths to cross every now and again. I was you siesta first, but now I am also a partner in ministry working in Nashville at LW. I am a passionate lover and teacher of God's Word and truly appreciated the 100-fold Word. I have not let it go.

Today finds me sitting at home too, but out of my own free will. I am typing a theology paper detailing everything I believe about the Nature of God, the nature of man, creation, etc. It's like I'm rewriting my Systematic Theology book from my perspective although God does not fit into any man made system. He's far greater than that, and I praise Him so!

It's been a good day-
woke the dawn to listen to Him and receive lovingkindnesses,
had lunch with our pastor's wife Jennifer, and I've nearly completed my paper :)

This is a long comment ;) but oh well. See in San Antonio--looking forward to our Siesta Fiesta.

Much love in Christ,
Regina

As we say here in the south, "sometimes a body needs to hunker down for a spell."

Sounds like a fun day, except for the storm part.

Getting ready to leave for Louivul tomorrow for a conference at Southern seminary. I'll remember to say it correctly while I am there. (Thanks to you Beth)

I now have to vent, so please forgive me.
Been working with kids this summer and I caught ringworm. (Yuck) I have a rash all over my face, but the worst part is the doctor said no make-up for at least two weeks! I don't know if I can survive! At least I can still use hair gel! I better be able to wear make-up by the Siesta Fiesta and be able to hug everyone. Ring worm is contagious. I wish I had known that a little sooner, Doc.

Thanks for listening! Praying for you as always and wanted to say thank you for sharing a much needed word from our Lord this past week-end! I have my hand over my heart!

Much love
Kristi B.

Glad you got some rations. If you had to be stuck at home, atleast you are surrounded by people you love, right? Sounds like the only ones who are missing out is the Fitzpatricks and Curtis. Consider it Christmas in August, just a little hotter. Hope you find a cure for being bored. Thinking about you from OK.

I was one of the blessed 70,000 who got to take part in this beautiful weekend Beth. Just wanted you to know that I took such stellar notes, that I was able to teach the teen girls at church on Sunday. His word lives on and on and on and on...

After such a busy weekend, He is "making you to lie down in green pastures" today!

Enjoy your beautiful babies at home today...His gift to you.

Blessings, Joanne

Yall are in my prayers...and I am thanking God (as I'm sure you are) that Mr. Ed didn't get any stronger than what he did. Just the type of storm we all need...here for today gone by tomorrow. Just enough to wash everything thoroughly clean. LOL!

Though the perfect storm is the one you can stand under the porchfall ...you know that spot were the storm drain doesn't work just right and there's a water fall coming off the house...that's when you grab your bathing suit and the bubble bath...bathing in rain water is the most refreshing...though I haven't done it since I wash knee high to a grass hopper. (oooh my first GodStop...LoL!)

How refreshing to have a "TOTALLY" funny email today. Here in southwest Arkansas it is dry-as-a-bone with crisp brown dead grass-remnants, so the thought of torrants of rain sounds "totally awesome" to me. It's also a least 150-degrees outside (so it seems to me) so the thought of turning on an oven to bake a cake doesn't even sound delicious. So I guess I'll go stand in front of the window-air-conditioner and iron some clothes. "Cool", don't you think? I'll check on you later!

Set my alarm this morning to "sow the seed" in the morning and instead was woken up by my husband saying our baby had an "explosive" diaper and the evidence was all over the crib, sheets, blanket and her! Had to laugh (otherwise I'd cry)- so took the baby and bible to the bathtub at 6:14am. The simulcast was amazing......God is so using you girlfriend- He is good!

Thinking and praying for you all down there! Sounds like you are making the most of the day- sending our love from Kansas City!

Is this your famous Texas Sheet Cake??? YUM!!!!!

Why is Melissa researching? I thought Esther was complete???? ORRRRRR are you already underway for your next study??? CAN'T WAIT!

And Beth, I've got a couple of suggestions for next year's Simulcast workbook. Please give us more room to write...you have too many good nuggets of truth to fit on just a few lines! :) And, you'll have to update your LPM staff photo...CURTIS has got to be included next time! :)

On another note, thanks so much for giving us a glimpse of your study methods. I have wanted to read the Bible in a year, but I feel like I'm just reading to read...not to let the Lord speak to me, you know? Although I still have a goal of reading through the entire Bible, I found hope and reassurance in getting deeper in a few scriptures than just skimming the surface with chapters at a time!

I still would like a play by play on how you go about researching scripture. You know so much background information (as your teaching this weekend showed), plus you know the Greek, too! I want to do that kind of digging, but I just don't know how to go about doing it. Please help a siesta out!

Love you like crazy, too!

Y'all are cracking me up!! This blow by blow of the hurricane Edouard (such a snazzy name for tumult and destruction!) is just too funny! Out here in earthquake country we like to take our calamities in earth shattering 20 second chunks. noe of this hunkering down and cake baking for us! No sir! We just shake a bit, put the Preecious Moment sfigures back on the shelf and keep going! HAve a great day, wet thought it may be! Blessigns to everyone!

I was so blessed to see you in person in Louisville, KY. It was wonderful! Your testimony and words are an inspiration to us all! Having done some things in my past that I am ashamed of, I can only hope and pray that my daughters will not go down the path that I did. Your daughters seem wonderful!
Take care in the storm!

I prayed for you all this morning when I saw the weatherman for Good Morning America on the Texas waterfront!

And for the record, I would have been awake and in that kitchen once that cake started to smell! Now I've got to go and bake some brownies or something to satisfy the sweet tooth!

Praying that this storm is over soon!

Since you are homebound today, maybe you'd love to read some very positive comments about the simulcast! I attended at a church about 50 miles from my home near Tulsa in Bartlesville, OK, with a couple of friends. Since my 22 year old son lives in Bartlesville, I spent the night at his house, where he lives with 3 other 20-something guys! My sweet son gave me his room while he slept on the couch! Although I think they attempted to be quiet because "MOM" was there, I hardly slept a wink Friday night. There was a lot of coming and going at that house and of course they don't go to bed until 4 a.m. However, your teaching and great humor kept me wide awake Saturday! Thanks for being you and sharing such a great Scripture with us. I shared your lesson with my Sunday School class the next day.

spaghetti-O's and meatballs?? Talk about comfort food (though I like the ravioli better!)

Speaking of cherries and food in hair, my 9 yo (yes, he's NINE and should know better) streaked his hair with dark burgundy cherry juice. ON PURPOSE. I love him to death (pray it isn't literally! =)

You don't like fruit? All fruit? Wow.

Enjoy your cooped-up time. Sounds like fun, even if you're suffering a bit from boredom.

What a great blog!! Love these conversations. Will be praying for all of you to be safe and not to wet. I agree with some of the others, we could use some rain up here in NO MI. Very Dry.....
Beth, I can't believe you baked a cake and frosted it with homemade frosting.....look out Betty Crocker!!
Looking forward to pics of those darling new puppies and of course more of Jackson. What is it about grandchildren that just pushes us over the edge.....they are so great. Must be because we don't have to live with them. At least not all the time.
Amanda, I am praying you get to feeling better soon. Did you have this kind of morning sickness with Jackson? I had evening sickness with both of my kids. No eating for several hours. Kinda weird I know.
Thanks Keith for saving the girls and Jackson from "starvation".
Blessings to all of you!!!

If I remember correctly, our puppy absolutely despised going out in the rain. She was so prissy! So, I hope your pups are cooperating with that! Y'all crack me up and God bless Keith for going to the store for some groceries. Queso? Bless his heart! What would we girls do without our cooking men?! Although, in this record heat in Oklahoma, my hubs has deemed every night as sandwich night this week! Ham or PB & J?

Could you all help out a sister Siesta? How can you speak of loving thunderstorms? I have a phobia about them and go into panic mode even if they're only PREDICTED several days out. It's so embarrassing, and each time it happens I feel like such a failure and such a disappointment to my Father God because it means I'm not trusting Him. This is a serious problem about which I have sought counseling (hasn't helped) and at times have to take an anti-anxiety. Would appreciate your fervent prayers, and any advice.
Love to you all....

well, super bummed to hear that there is a tropical storm in texas, but it sounds like either way you'd not have been at work today and i was so excited for you to get a "crazy praisey" package that i sent (usps said it finally got to LPM yesterday after being forwarded and then missent by them to who knows where about 10 days ago-- i think satan is causing serious "mail delay") it's too bad it's sitting somewhere at LPM cause it would have been fun to have it at home today with the fam! anywho... god's perfect timing! :) but i do hope you get it sometime soon! it's a pretty big box so be on the lookout!!! PRAISE HIM IN THE STORM! :)

You are a downright hoot, Beth! Love all the updates. Praying for everyone's safety...having grown up in CA, I've never experienced any tropical storms. But, I will chime in on the earthquake discussions!

BTW, I just have to praise God for VBS. Our church is right in the middle of our week and it is so much fun to be a kid again. Although, as a craft leader, my nails have never needed a manicure more! Oh well..

Oh My Goodness... I loved every minute but that last line left me in heaving laughter.

E-Coli from our purse? Do tell?

Sanguines do hate rainy days, don't we?

Your man gets the red badge of courage for his store adventure. Mine would have said - EAT TOAST -- ALL DAY!

That reminds me - I deserve a red badge of courage - I drove home twice this past winter in a SNOW STORM - and I survived! God is soo good! Is He not?

I'm praying and tell you I definitely <3 (Love, according to my daughters) You, too!

Hey Beth, family, and everybody else!
A few things-
1. Sometimes God makes you take a day of rest, even if you weren't ready for it!

2. A malapropism from sumer camp this morning while playing cards, "Oh look, I got the Ace of Space!"

3. You are sending "Eduardo" our way and I bought the stuff to make homemade Almond Joys! We'll see how it goes.

4. Tell you man good job for taking care of y'all. I just love it when my hubby cooks for us! It just tastes better! Made with love I guess...

5. I have been walking around like the Pledge of Allegiance so Satan doesn't steal my word! He worked really hard when I got home from the simulcast, but it didn't happen! I got some notecards already!

6. I didn't think I could love you and Jesus anymore than I already did, but y'all made me do it! Thank you thank you thank you for being obedient to him!

Melissa, I'm so sorry you're having to work while everyone else naps!

Oh, and WAKE UP Amanda and Jackson so Bibby will have someone to play with!

We just got back from our local Menonite Bakery. Our girls wanted to go there before school starts back tomorrow. I tell you, those brothers and sisters can sure cook! Their chicken salad is out of this world! We brought home homemade wheat bread, rolls, poppyseed bread, and cinnamon rolls full of pecans. Come on over to Alabama and we'll share them with you. We went through Ivan and Katrinia so I know what you mean with boredom and snackdom. Hang in there!

Thanks for making me laugh today in the midst of your mundane. I went to school with a kid named Bubba. He was from Texas. We lived in Oregon. His real name was Granvel. I mean, really. Who in the world??? Bubba has since become a household name around here. And I try really hard not to think of a former president when I hear it. That's all I'm going to say about that. Cake sure sounds good.

This morning while I was watching the weather report on MSNBC (shout out to the other Morning Joe fans), I said to my husband, "Oh my gosh, I hope Beth Moore is okay" He said, "Who's that...the blog lady" I replied, "Yes, and she lives near there and I think her daughter is traveling somewhere...I hope they are all okay" My husband just gave me this funny look like: How do you manage to keep track of the travel plans of some lady's daughter who you don't know--and still loose your keys about 2x's a day.

I am glad you are alright and I will let my husband know your status!!

Y'all are just too much!!!! Ecoli from a purse? haven't hear that one yet. maybe just in Texas. I think it's so funny that this little family of Moores/Joneses in Houston Texas has this whole country of siestas on pins and needles waiting for the next bit of news/antics. All we need is a video camera in your home to watch, like that movie I think it was TRUMAN with Jim Carey or the Truman Show, something like that. Even Melissa can't get her research done!
