Things Once Spoken

Four summers ago Curtis and I were wrapping up our time in Northeast England. We had volunteered to spend five months there working with teenagers. On our last Sunday at Thornaby Baptist Church, our dear friend Maxine presented us with two gifts in front of the congregation of about forty saints. I was doing an ugly cry and was desperately in need of a Kleenex. I kept turning around to face the other way because I was so embarrassed. Then in a moment that brought a bit of comic relief, we opened up the gifts to find these:

I started giggling immediately because I was a bit confused and I knew everyone was going to wonder if I was pregnant. At that time in our marriage we didn't have maternity insurance and we were not even talking about having a baby. Maxine realized that I was a little embarrassed and announced, "Amanda is not pregnant!" Actually, she called me "Amander" but I always loved that. There was a quick consensus that Curtis and I must be pregnant in the spiritual realm, meaning God had spiritual fruit and offspring that would come forth soon. I refused to believe that the father-son figurine was a prophecy of any kind. ;)

Later I realized that Maxine and I had been talking about Willow Tree figures one day and I had mentioned that I thought the one with the pregnant lady was beautiful. I had seen it at my friend Jennifer's house. She remembered that conversation when she saw the figurine and wanted to bless me with it.

We took the figurines back to America with us, but we didn't display them right away. I did not want any visitors to our house to think I was expecting. At some point during my pregnancy with Jackson I got them out and proudly displayed them at long last. It would be some time before Jackson was as old as the little boy in the second figurine, but he was a boy nonetheless.

Nowadays Jackson Jones is looking a lot more like the little boy in the picture. He's definitely not a baby anymore. Around April I noticed that I had stopped identifying with moms I saw with babies in strollers. I wasn't one of them anymore. It was such a strange feeling! We had graduated on to little-boyhood.

My heart is kind of pounding right now because I am so excited and blessed to be able to say that at this brief moment in time, both of those little Willow Tree figures are true of our family. A prophecy given to us four years ago has come to pass! We are expecting another Little Jones around February 12, 2009. Today I am 11 weeks along. We had an OB appointment this week and got to hear the little heartbeat. He or she seems to be doing well in there! I have so much to say, but it wouldn't be that fun to stuff it all in one post. I will save some for later.

By the way, I went into Baby Gap for fun after my appointment and I was blown away by the cuteness of all the fall clothes for baby boys. Oh my word. Pregnant Girl almost cried over this. I am so ready to shop in the 0-24 month section again. I've missed it so!

Congratulations, Jones'! What a blessing! I can't wait to meet him/her via the blog in February! If I remember correctly, (because I was at a living proof conference on Jackson's one year b-day) that his b-day is in Feb, too. So there will be a 3 year spread between them. Our 2 kids are 3 years apart as well, both born in April and it's been wonderful! I'll be praying for you and the baby through the pregnancy! I'm sure I won't be the first to ask this, but will you be trying to find out the sex of the baby and sharing the info with all us siestas? :)

Congratulations! That's funny how we automatically associate ourselves with the ages of our children. This is the first year I won't have any at the elementary school (we have Intermediate). And my oldest BABY is in the high school marching band this year. As I watched him march yesterday, all of a sudden the memories of his little wrinkled preemie body came back and I couldn't believe it has been 13 years and that he is 5'8" and 200 lbs. NO WAY! I was a bit embarrassed that I was sitting there crying over practice.

Praise God for your new blessing!

Oh dearie - blessings and congrats and mazel tov and a jar of pickles, too!

I just took my three kiddos school shopping (each got a day with Mom in our state's "big city": Anchorage - and thank You, Lord, that we do have a Nordstrom here - and thank You, also, while I'm on the topic, that it was the HUGE summer sale). Anyway. Please, do yourself the biggest favor, Amander, and just simply SAVOR (yikes! I almost typed Savior!)

Savor, savor, savor 'cause one day you'll wake up and you'll look in the mirror and that cute little baby inside you will walk up next to you and his (or her) head will be right at eyebrow level and you'll gasp and say, "How did this happen? Weren't you just inside my belly on Monday? And in the stroller on Tuesday? And in kindergarten on Wednesday? And in Little League on Thursday? And now it's Friday and we're going shopping for your 5th grade wardrobe and you wear - heaven help us - size 10 men's shoes?? And size 16 jeans? And it's time to look for football cleats? Glory." (Yikes, I almost typed "gory.")

Anyway - Savor, Sweet Siesta. I think, in retrospect, with all my years of parenting backing me up - if I had to give you one piece of advice - savor your children. God savors me - and I know it. What it is to live life knowing we're deeply loved.

Best,

Warm in Alaska.

your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me
were written in your book before one of them came to be.

May God bless you and your family during this most precious of times.

Congratulations to all of you!

Amanda, the very first time I heard your mom speak was via a simulcast where she shared with us how you surprised her at the front door with your news about Jackson's impending arrival. (Sorry, Beth, I don't remember your main topic anymore but I'll never forget "Dancing with Granny" !!!! Wasn't that coming in February, too?)

Amanda! Congratulations! I remember thinking to myself that since I am pregnant, you might be too. We had our first babies a month apart (Jackson is a month older than Ethan) so I wondered if we would be doing this again "together."

I know just what you are saying about graduating into little boyhood mothering. My arms are aching for another infant to hold and inhale - admit it Siestas, you love to inhale new baby scent too!

I am 20 weeks today (funny how you are 11 today)and we will find out "who" is in there on Monday at our 8:15 ultrasound.

Enjoy this pregnancy! Hopefully you are feeling well!

Congratulations! And thanks for the BabyGap link. I am having a boy, too (due Oct. 6), and I need some help in knowing how to dress a baby boy! My 4-year-old daughter is a very girly girl, so my focus thus far has been on ruffles, flowers, princess outfits, etc. Buying for a boy is a new and fun experience!

I pray that you will have a safe and healthy pregnancy, and that you will not have too much morning sickness!

I am praying for this little one and your pregnancy. Dearest Little Prego Siesta and Growing family,
Congrats on this wonderful blessing from above. Enjoy all the aspects of motherhood as it is a true gift from above even the morning sickness. Oh the joy of 2. I hope Mama Siesta has told you that your life is now and forever changed with 2. And I hope you do take advantage of naps to build up the strength needed for a 2 child household. The double work is so worth the joys they bring into your life. Just remember that God does have a sense of humor and sometimes he will answer those prayers asked during pregnancy. For example, I struggled with the 2nd pregnancy thinking will God make me have enough love for the 2nd as I do the first. So I prayed that he would open my heart and let me love him as much as the first but to also make him different so it would be easier. Boy, did God laugh at this request and really answer the different child pray. I have 2 exact opposites pretty similar to Mama Siesta references to you girls. But I would not trade it for anything. May God blessing you in these new endeavors and continue to enhance your life with much joy and laughter.

Amanda,

I am so happy for you all! GOD is so awesome! Enjoy every bit of this pregancy. Relish every good and bad moment.

I know young women hate this, but it's so true - it goes by fast. Make the most of every minute that GOD gives you with both of your little ones.

Love and blessings on you all,
Teri

Congrats, Amanda, Curtis and Jackson! Ofcourse the whole family is excited, I am sure!

Amanda, thank you for the sweet words! My son is 2 years old today, and I am quite the emotional, sappy mom that I never expected to be. I too received some of those Willow Tree figurines while pregnant and having our children. Josh is my baby. My daughter is 3 1/2 going on 23!

Anyhow, I am so excited for all of y'all! I will be praying your pregnancy is smooth! I pray this one is easier on you than the last! I tell all my friends who are pregnant with their first to milk it for all its worth, because any future pregnancies, you're still a mom!

Love Ya'll!

Congratulations Curt and Amanda and family!

What a wonderful blessing. You and baby will be in my prayers, along with prayers that Jackson is fully potty-trained by February so you only have one in diapers! =)

P.S. I LOVE Willow Tree, though I'm usually buying it for someone else.

Amanda,

I'm also expecting our second child on February 15! How funny! If only we knew each other in real life, that would be much more fun. :) I'll keep your Little Jones in my prayers as I pray for my little one.
