You might be a redneck
We had a fish fry at my mom and dad's house last night. I just thought I'd share this heartwarming picture with you ladies.

If you serve your family ice cream with a garden spade because you couldn't find the ice cream scoop - say it with me now - you might be a redneck! (Note from Beth: The weirdest part of this is that Keith wasn't even trying to be funny. He was simply being practical. I saw his handiwork on the counter, motioned for AJ to look as fast as she could and she just happened to have her camera. I'm not sure he ever knew what the big deal was. Welcome to my home.)

Love it!!!!! We have redneck moments at our house all the time. For instance the gas tank on our lawn mower had a hole in it..my husband took the gas tank off of our neighbors lawn mower that he doesn't use any more and "made" it fit by using those plastic tie things. I can't even think of what they are called. Where is Jeff Foxworthy when you need him????
God Bless you Moore's, Joneses and Fitzpatrick's.
My husband would do that in a heartbeat...wonder if our men are related genetically as well as through Christ?
Mine hunts, fishes, and is a plumber...
That is so funny.
Here's a redneck story for you...
My husband had gone pig hunting and he shot a wild pig. I came home from work (we live in the city...in a neighborhood mind you) and the pig was hanging by a rope from a tree in our back yard! Our back yard is actually a side yard and a side street runs right by our house. Talk about stares! :)
My husband would take one look at that, give two thumbs up, and allow the word "repurposing" into his permanent vocabulary (even though it's on his banned list normally)!
I think I'd better hide the rake and the weed whacker... don't want my fella getting ideas on how to further repurpose around here!
Oh, bless you, Moores... you're about as real as they get!!!
Lisa in Western PA
OH MY GOSH!!! CLASSIC!!! I have so many of those moments but never a camera. That is Priceless. I have a few pics but can't post them what a great blog idea though. I think I am going to work on it right now. Siestas I will post the blogaddress when it is finalized and everyone please submit your version of the You Know Your a Redneck (Christian) when.... Oh Mark Lowry could donate some good ones!!!! Be blessed and thank you so much for that. Humor is God's Greatest Medicine.
Love ya'll
Kristin, Camden Alabama
Kudos to Keith for figuring out a way to serve ice cream! Gotta love a man that serves ya ice cream however he can.
And I bet it worked way better than an ice cream scoop
And PS amamnda,,,,I made that chhesecake thing for my work and everyone loved it, I mean really loved it, I felt like a star!!
And the mess up i had with it worked, cinn throughout tasted great
Well, I'd give ANYTHING right about now to be able to eat some Bluebell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream! I am a transplanted Southern girl living in the North East, and I haven't had Blue Bell in ages!
Enjoy it.....with a spade or a spoon! :)
God bless you!
Jen
Tee hee hee hee
At least you had the good sense to be eatin' Blue Bell!
I am rolling on the floor laughing!! Toooooo funny! Do tell me he washed off any dirt that might still be on it before sticking it in the icecream. Or as we say in the South, a little dirt won't kill ya! :D
Loved the other redneck stories from the other siestas, too!
Southern men are the BEST, in my opinion!! :)
Great stuff!!
LOL! That cracked me up, thank you!!
Welcome to Texas! I know you're just trying to warm everybody up for August! Nothing like BlueBell. Love you, Annette
This is great!! What is even better is the fact that it is not such a bad idea. It seems like it would be easier than the dinky little ice cream scoop.
yes!!! i love it!!!
i live in rural virginia (= redneck central!) and this would totally happen at my house with my husband...or some other relative that happens to be around! (i mean, if its time to eat, especially dessert, that usually means extended family is nearby, right?) :)
Hilarious! My dad could so relate to this!!
Hey, whatever works. Getting your ice cream is important!
As Larry the Cable Guy would say "Get er done!" How fun!
I just love it!!! And I thought we only did those things at our house. Living with all boys has been quite an experience! to say the least. Thanks for sharing that you are a real family!
Love you Moores
That is incredible. And hysterical.
I can see my husband doing something like that....I can't count the number of times I have said or thought, "Baby, do you think maybe that's a little hillbilly?"
Okay, I'm still laughing!!! Thanks for the *grin* today. It's just what I needed during a day of grading papers!
~Cheryl
My Chris, the Texan through and through, asks, "I don't get it. What's wrong with that?"
Do I dare share of our firstborn sitting in a high chair while I help his dad clean his wild hog kill? Or the darts from the blowgun (which we were given as a gift) that were in our ceiling as there was an attempt to kill wasps, flies, or whatever else was up there! I think heaven gets a kick out of us rednecks- I know I do. PS - We had chips & hot sauce at our wedding! Rhonda
Oh my goodness---that is such a HOOT!!!
hahahaha. too funny!
Okay, I couldn't keep my giggling to myself. I had to call my husband to look at this one. He didn't see why it was so funny. I think he thought that it was a fancy scoop. Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy that "thought we were trying to win something" when, as a newly engaged couple, I asked him to come with me to the mall to register.
sadly, this does look more like my Dad than I would like to admit. That is just too much.
wow. this is great.
reminds me of the time at my grandparents' lakehouse (in the middle-of-nowhere, TN) when we made pancakes one morning, just to find we were our syrup. we went to the bait-shop down the road, and all they had for us to purchase was one bottle of syrup- HALF GONE. it was a photo oppurtunity in our household as well.
OMGoodness, that's too funny! I so love this site - not only do you inspire us to seek harder after the heart of God, but also, give us the best laughs!
Thank you for being so real!
Um, I see nothing redneck about that picture at all.
Everything's sweeter in TN,
Amy Beth
Men, don't you just love 'em. Let me tell you my redneck story. A few years ago we moved up to a much nicer neighborhood. After we'd been here just a few weeks, I bought a scarecrow (the fairly large kind on a wooden stick) to decorate for halloween. I gave it over to my husband to put outside on a gas lantern. When I came home from work the following day he had put up the scarecrow. Much to my amusement, he had lashed that scarecrow to that lantern with about 10 ft of duct tape.
Can you send some of the blue bell ice cream up to North Dakota, please? I spent part of my childhood in TX and I do miss that blue bell ice cream. Nothing like it on the planet! Beth, you can just bring it to living proof live in Billings MT. 20 gallons would do just fine!
ain't nuttin' wrong wit bein' a God-fearin' Redneck. My father-in-law is a BIG-TIME bass fishermen, (who could use prayers since he is in his third year of chemotherapy for lung cancer), and he caught a "baby" bass on one of his outings -- he brought it home and put in the living room aquarium.
Thank you Lord for the gift of laughter! AMEN??
you might be a redneck if you and your two girlfriends are on a road trip and your rock guard happens to fall off the front of your car...and you stop at a piggly wiggly, buy some duck tape...and keep on driving :)
(and you might be just plain stupid if you attach the duck tape to the PAINT on the car...not that i would know...;) )
That is hilarious! Poor Keith, just trying to be helpful!
There are no words.
Just laughter. But only 'cause I think I married the same man.
o toooooooo funny!!! Good times!
Now this is one determined ice cream lover.
:)
We once used a screwdiver and knife I think to open a can of chili beans when we moved into our new house.....obviously it was no big deal to me either....because it worked just fine thank you!
You go Keith!
Oh my oh my - this picture confirms we are ALL a bit off balance! Truly funny!
The picture of the Blue Bell ice cream made me a bit "blue". We can't get the world's best ice cream here in Cincinnati! I will have to partake in REAL mexican food and Blue Bell when I come to Houston to visit family at the end of the month!
Now THAT looks like a fun party!
My youngest daughter and I made Sopapilla Cheesecake this afternoon....she stuck her finger in the cream cheese mixture after we spread it out and said..."Sweet Mercy this is good!" They can hardly wait for dessert tonight..:) Thanks for sharing!
stephanie
How many scoops equals one spade?
Warm in Alaska.
I guess spies in home groups are good for something!
I don't know what's more pathetic...Keith dipping his Blue Bell with an ice cream scoop or me walking downtown to the re-opened local soda fountain (the original owner closed it due to illness nearly 20 years ago, and one of his sons has totally renovated it and re-opened it with fancy retro decor and full restaurant seating instead of the pharmacy that used to take up the middle...I was just so sentimental that I HAD to take my kids by to get some ice cream the week after they opened) and then paying a BUCK-FIFTY for a skimpy SINGLE SCOOP in a little paper cup. I was wishing they'd have scooped it with the garden spade! I'd hate to spend ALL my economic stimulas package on Blue Bell Ice Cream...but my tastebuds wouldn't mind!
Hey, knowing what I know about Keith, I think you should be glad he didn't use his hunting knife.
What I want to know is, does he know you took the picture? I love it! I'm glad we siestas all can't post pictures of all the things that would make us all rednecks- Don't even get me started! Thank you for inviting us to your house,...at least you actually were trying to scoop out the ice-cream. In my family, that's about the size you use for their own personal spoon! God bless you all!
Lisa in Kirkland, WA
You guys crack me up! I was so hoping that your house wasn't near as crazy as mine. But it cheers me to also know that you're just as normal as we are too. keep on livin! carla
Way to go, Amanda! Keep that camera handy! :)
that's hysterical. I KNEW there was a reason I loved you.
I grew up out west, and am more cowboy than redneck, but the real question is how can ya'll live with only one ice cream scoop and how could it be lost?? Isn't that like losing your Bible?
Priceless! :-)
God Bless you all!
Anne in MO
Ok the mud may be on my face, but I was the official "Redneck moment" person last night at our home.
I became the official MOUSE WRANGLER! I had just came in to our home from being outside feeding our basset hound. When to my utter amazement there was a MOUSE. I went for my husband out in the garage, but didn't get much enthusiasm from him, one way or the other. So I came back in and there it was AGAIN! I shut the door with myself inside the room, having cornered Stuart Little. My husband then nonchalantly walked in and I say, HURRY SHUT THAT DOOR. Next thing I know (Isn't that a song?) he is on his hands and knees using a paper plate as a ping pong paddle zinging Stuart Little my direction. I slammed a solo cup down...lo & behold....I had captured him. Out to the dumpster Stuart Little went!
Pray that there are NO more! We built our house 14 years ago, and this is the first mouse sighting! AND THE LAST!
NOT ON MY WATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had held out for a number of fancy cooking parties...not buying the cookie scoop. I finally took the plunge and purchased both the scoop and the hi-tech ice cream scooper. One day, my man hollers from the kitchen "that scoop you bought doesn't work right"...he came over to the couch with a big bowl of ice cream, still complaining about the scoop. Imagine my horror a few days later when I set out to make some cookies (that would be perfectly rounded, mind you) to see the metal wand that scoops the dough out of the bowl on to the sheet sticking straight out. Seems he thought that was the ice cream scoop. He broke it and I never got to use it...by the way, the ice cream scoop works perfectly! :)
Now that's the kind of "gardening" I could get into!
that picture mad me sad.
They don't sell Blue Bell here in DC. I just returned from a business trip to OK where I pigged out on Blue Bell, I even toured the factory! But I miss that ice cream. Nothing comes close.
Dare I ask? Was this a new gardening tool or had it been used?
Assuming it was new, I believe Keith was on the right track. Shucks, you can get a lot "moore" of a scoop with the spade!
From one ice cream lover to another- whatever it takes! Desperate issues call for desperate measures.
My husband is known to our family as "the Great White Hunter". There is nothing that moves , except people, of course, that he won't shoot at and try and eat!! And to top it all off..."if you can't fix it with duct tape it aint worth fixin'".
Isaac's Mom
My Mom and I had just been remembering the other day about some of my family that had vice grips instead of faucet handles in their house. My family is from the Ozarks in south Missouri and we would not have thought a thing about your fancy ice cream dipper! :)
Michelle
hy, hy, hysterical!!
The best part is the note from Beth... I can just see Keith thinking, "what's the big deal, it works doesn't it?"
Fried fish and Blue Bell? Oh, I gained an ounce just thinking about them. Please tell me you had cheese grits and fried okra as sides!
Would all of you blogging siestas in Christ please be in prayer for our church family and community. Our pastor, Dr. Forrest Pollock, and his son, Preston, were killed in a plane crash on their way to a conference in Texas. We know that they are face to face with Jesus right now, but our hearts are breaking for his family. There is info on my blog and a tribute from the SBC. Just pray...Kathy
A true redneck moment! I love being a Texan!
PS: the Blue Bell reminded me- thank y'all Siestas for introducing me to Skinny Cow Ice Cream! It's delicious!
I got one for you- I went to Walmart to get a Stud finder for my house(just moved in) The cashier looked at it and wondered what it was. I told her "It's a stud finder, see-I am single and if you put it on a guy and it lights up-he's a stud." She said, "really, I will have to tell my daughter about it." I laughed all the way to the car. Only in rural Georgia!
It's nice to see ya'll are "normal" people like the rest of us. I love "knowing" someone famous that is real!
That is hilarious! Sure hope he washed it really good before sticking it in that piece of heavenly icecream!
Oh my gosh, way to funny!!! I do wish my husband had tried that instead of bending 2 of my tablespoons so they don't even look like a spoon. However, my fear would be he wouldn't wash it and I would be horrified....:)
Have a Blessed Day ya'all!!
Georgia in MI
My husband thinks he MUST have Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream EVERY night before he can go to bed. I am serious, EVERY NIGHT! And he would not be beyond anything it took to get it out of the carton and into his bowl. Thanks for sharing the picture....it is priceless.
That is hilarious! Good idea for getting that wonderful Blue Bell ice cream. Being from GA I miss the Blue Bell ice cream! Thanks for sharing.
Oh my! Keith and my husband must never meet.
My husband grew up in a house where his dad once duct taped his sister's head when she cut it and needed stitches.
My whole family had a Mother's Day fish fry. Fun times. That is hilarious about your dad. We have red neck moments all the time! Family is the best!
-Ashley McWhorter
We landscape by profession...you should see what a spoon can do!
Thanks for the laugh, your family is great! Love you guys!
PS-- Amanda...we had the wonderful privilege of attending the Young Life all staff conference in FL this past January, where Jeff Foxworthy and his wife were guests. They are amazing people of faith, involved in ministry, testimony to the glory of God. He graciously did a stand up routine one evening that made us laugh so hard we were crying. Perhaps you should send him your pic.
A couple of years ago, we had owned a "fixer upper" house (100 years old and completely gutted down to the studs when we bought it) across the street from our home in the Historical District for about 3 weeks, when this couple from the big city of Tallahassee came beating on our door begging us to sell it to them...they were just in love with the beautiful southern charm of our historical district in Thomasville, and he had a degree in urban planning that made renovating this house seem like a dream-come-true....they offered to buy it from us at a price that gave us a small profit (not bad since we'd not even picked up the first hammer yet), so we sold it and looked for something else, but we soon became good friends with this classy Tallahassee couple (who did not share our Baptist roots whatsoever). Saw it as a great opportunity to attempt some relationship evangelism. I hope this doesn't disturb anyone's Baptist theology too much, but the couple gave us a bottle of wine for Christmas. Being the good "raised-up Baptist" Christians that we were, we said "thank you" and left it on a shelf in our kitchen. Within a few days, curiosity got the best of my husband. I was hoping to use the bottle (even if we poured out the wine) for a craft project to make a pretty vase for fresh flowers. He decided to open it and just taste it, since at 29, he'd never had a sip. Well, he didn't get to taste the stuff because we didn't own a corkscrew, and so he attempted to use his power drill to get the cork out...needless to say, there was crumbled cork and glass shards all in the wine (and all over our kitchen), and the glass neck was completely shattered. We only live 30 minutes north of a major city, but I think there's a little redneck left in us!
I'm not as impressed with the garden spade as I am the BLUE BELL! I was raised Texan and on Blue Bell ice cream. Now that Im in Albuquerque, NM....we don't get it here!! I MISS MY BLUE BELL!
that picture is cruel for all of us Texans not living in Texas!!
Too funny! I'll bet he would use the garden fork-thingy (you know - that hand tool with three prongs) along with the spade for serving salad in a pinch!
We're all rednecks here in this part of TN!
Hugs,
Adrienne
Now I'm just trying to imagine what he might of used to flip the fish he was fryin'!
:) Kelli
Ahhh...Blue Bell!
The only thing more redneck would be if he were eating it right out of the carton with that spade!
What is it about eating ice cream right out of its carton that's so gratifying for that rebellious streak? :) Just makes the stuff taste better, I think!
Sounds like something my dad would do. He's such a dork. But I mean that in the sweetest way possible. Gotta love dads! :)
This is great. My husband loves ice cream so much that he would probably use that as a spoon and not give anyone else any. His mom makes homeade peach every once in a while and he eats all he can hold with a big serving spoon. the sad part for the rest of us is he stays skinny and the rest of us struggle. It is fun for everyone to watch him eat!!
Thanks for the laugh,
Melissa in NC
That is too good!!!
My daughter-in-law is from Missouri and her dad and her uncle are real cut ups who love to tease us about being from the south. Example: Her uncle asked me at her college graduation party, "Do your feet hurt?" Not understanding, I asked why and he said he thought that us folks didn't usually wear shoes. The teasing went on about several things and we all got a good kick out of it.
Several months later, we had a plumbing problem at home and I was appalled when I drove up from work and saw our toilet sitting out by the street. But the ole wheels starting turning and I got my husband's hand truck and took the toilet back to my flower garden, put a big fern in it, took a picture and sent it to her dad asking him his opinion of our new landscape design. They got such a kick out of that!!!
Whatever it takes to get to the BLUE BELL:-) Gotta love the picture. Thanks for putting a smile on my face today.
LOL That's too funny!
That is ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!!!
I am all about being practical so I solute your man Beth!!!
Thanks for sharing all your fun, zanny, life moments!! I KNOW it makes all of us SMILE!!!! ;0)
Blessings to you ladies and gentle rednecks in TX and GA!!!
It takes one to know one and I don't even live in the south! :)
We Love you!!! ;0)
Oh no, now I am going to have to hide all my gardening tools. All too often my husband is reading your blog over my shoulder!! He will love this one. Ice cream is his favorite dessert and that would be one big heaping portion of ice cream!! Just think of what he could do with my bulb planter, one big deep helping of ice cream. I best go now I hear the garage door opening, I must rescue my tools!! (Thanks for always making my day!!) Lori
I'd eat Blue Bell's vanilla ice cream with a DIRTY garden spade!
Too funny!
Too funny! My hubby is a redneck through and through. I laugh and shake my head sometimes, but truth is, I know that if anything ever happened that took away electricity and modern conveniences, our family would survive solely on his ability to think outside the box!
I LOVE it! : )
Too funny!
That is too funny!
Hubby would have tried the same thing. Only instead of homemade vanilla it would have been Moolenium.
Thank God for Bluebell! \o/
Well, until it comes time to put on my summer clothes. :(
I am sooooo jealous (for you, not of you, but for you) to be eating Blue Bell ice cream! I live in Virginia, and much to my dismay, you can NOT get Blue Bell ice cream in Virginia. I had never heard of the Blue Bell Brand until I was visiting dear family in Baton Rouge. They could not believe I had never heard of, let alone tasted, Blue Bell. I assure you though, after the first spoonful, I tasted a lot of it while I was there (but that was June 2005!). Just delicious!
LOVE IT!
Hysterical. I Love that. Too bad we can't get Bluebell here on the east coast. If we did I wouldn't serve it with a shovel, I'd eat it off a shovel. Dig in!!
I love that God brings such funny things into our lives. Thank you for sharing another of yours!
My dad would have done the same thing. My husband.... Not so much. He went to his first opera at the age of 6. He's not nearly as tightly wound as he sounds, but I think he had too much etiquette instruction to pull that off! Praying for God's protection!
Jina
I do believe that is a first for me. I have seen some redneck photo opps, even created my share of them, but that is one that would have never crossed my mind. I might have thought---wooden spoon, slotted spoon, tablespoon, measuring cup...but I am fairly certain that a garden spade would not have entered into the choices!
I love it though!
As an newlywed, I tried to stop my husband from cutting some carboard with "a bread knife." He informed me that he had often cut down trees with it!
if it works use it. it's a man thing and as long as they are willing to help don't question the motive.
This is hilarious...and totally reminds me of something my dad would do. He has a pocket knife he uses for EVERYTHING, and has often offered it to me to cut an apple or some other type of food. After seeing what all it has been used for..no thank you! :)
Love your posts! So glad I found your site :)
Did he clean the spade before digging it into the icecream?
~elaine
I don't get it-
Maybe because I was born and raised in East Tennessee- I am not a hillbilly however, I am an Appalachian American.
That is fabulous! I needed that laugh so bad! In response to Melissa's post yesterday....
Today was a horrendous day!!! A dear friend told me I needed chocolate and a gun. Well, I had the chocolate, got rid of the guns last month (true!) and I went for a coke which I have been off of since fall!!!!
The day did not get any better...
Had a horrible tongiht and did not go to choir either...
Thank you for sharing what could very well be my house as well!! I needed that!
If it's ice cream-- get me a shovel!
Love,
Steph
Very funny! Thanks for the smile today!!!
That is stinkin' funny! LOL!
Please tell me that was at least never used in the garden??
We've served punch out of a huge plastic paint bucket before, because it was the biggest thing we could find! Whatever works...
Tell Keith he has great taste utensils and in ice cream....not even diet Blue Bell! Way to go!!!!
Great post =)
And to think.....I get fussed at for using a coffee cup to hammer a nail into the wall!!!
Bluebell's Homemade Vanilla...does life get any better than this? I'd use a rake from the toolshed if that is what it took to get a scoop of Brenham's finest export!
hey when it comes to homemade vanilla ice cream by Blue Bell I say what ever works!
Creative and handy...love it :o)
Hilarious! Loved the story and I'm so glad that you included a picture- AJ, way to go! I'm so happy that you had a camera to capture that!
We have some friends from Texas who have told us about this Blue Bell ice cream- Must be good stuff if you need to dish it out with a spade! One smart fellow, I think:)
One question though: How did the spade get in the utensil drawer? He must be one serious gardener:) He he!
That is the funniest thing I have ever seen! I think he should get extra points for being so CLEVER! ;)
I am so jealous! I miss Blue Bell ice cream. Tell Keith we'll all come over and eat Blue Bell with the garden spade any day of the week ... transplanted Idahoians at the moment!
Amanda,
Thanks for having your camera at the ready! This picture is priceless--the best of both worlds! I would say your Dad's pretty smart or had quite a hankerin' for some Blue Bell!
Blue Bell could be served with any instrument and it would still be the very best there is!
For all of you (including myself!) misplaced Texans, if you have an Outback Steakhouse nearby, you have Blue Bell just as near!! They serve Blue Bell!!!!! We made this discovery about a year ago and go once a month-split a meal and get our own dish of BB! Yummy
Ya gotta love those Redneck's-they're so creative!
Bobbie
Too funny!!!
He'd be twice the redneck if he was eating out of the carton with the thing... You didn't see him take spadeful did you?
Eatin' BlueBell with a spade...whatever works in a tight spot, right? I love Bluebell Homemade Vanilla!! When I visited my sis in TX this past March, I tried it for the first time. I thought East TN didn't carry it, but lo, and behold, they do! I just can't eat too much, you know, everything in moderation:) Ya'll's crazy household antics are fine with me:) You make me smile:)
katiegfromtennessee
GOD BLESS BLUE BELL.
Since I don't actually use our gardening tools - that seems like a perfectly good use for that item. See, I don't even know what to call it. When we bought our first house, I decided to plant some flowers. Not having any "tools", I used a kitchen spoon to dig the holes. I believe my husband made fun of me. I don't think it's redneck at all. He's a very practical man!! God made all kinds of people - some who know how to use gardening tools for their correct usages and some who use those tools in ways that were never intended but oddly work out for that off-beat use. Usually, there is one of each kind of person in a marriage. "God loves you dearly, and he has called you to be his very own people." (Rom. 1:7) Some of us are just a little more "inventive" than others. I just hope he washed the "instrument" before using. I threw my spoon away after my one and only gardening attempt.
Priceless!
Oh Man, yall really do things BIG in Texas, huh? ROFL.......
I live in an area where we buy milk at the bait shop...and non-locals think we be very strange! ROFL..............
sharon in alabama :)
what a HOOT! I LOVE IT! YEEEEEHI!
A
OK, I'm really tired from all the wedding planning (10 more days!) and end of year concerts and school programs, so I might have been laughing just a little too hard....but that's funny!!!!!
Melana in Wyoming
too too funny! We just bought an electric ice cream maker and are making the yummiest homemade! But, it is too soft to use a spade (wink), however sometimes we just stick a straw in it and slurp!
Question for anyone who can answer...I'm starting Daniel as a summer study, I got the book and my darling hubby bought me itunes so I could download the lectures. Should I do all 5 days of the first section and then listen to the lecture? Any help will be appreciated. THANKS GALS!
Wendy
How perfect!!! I can promise you we have all had redneck moments from time to time.
Blue Bell, my favorite!!
My husband walked by the PC and exclaimed..."WHAT IS THAT?"
ha!
How funny is that!!!! And of course eating the BEST ice cream on the planet!!!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Love YA!
Amanda in SC
That is hysterical!!
Oh my goodness, how funny is that??? Y'all just crack me up!!!
I only wish that we could buy Blue Bell ice cream up here in good ole Wisconsin. That is the Number 3 reason was I miss about not living in Tx anymore. Number 1 would be my former church "home/family" HFBC; and Number 2 are all of the friends that I met down there...
In Christ's Love,
Jennifer O
Southern Wisconsin
Oh, man I hope that was a new one! :)
I am loving it. At least it looks clean...but then again a little dirt never hurt anybody...RIGHT?
I don't know IF I can stop laughing.......
A friend of mine used a leaf blower in place of a hairdryer she left at home to dry her hair for a wedding. Is that redneck?
I only wish I could think of "creative ways" to get things done. I would have just used a spoon and bent it and ruined it. Some people call it redneck, I like the word creative. Thanks for the laugh!!!!
oh I wish I could post two photos here. Picture my 67 yr old father trying to open his first ever bottle of red wine (suggested by his cardiologist for his heart after 2 stints) -- mind you, he buys the wine, but not a bottle opener -- the first picture shows him and my husband using a 3" drill bit and pliers attempting to get the cork out... the second picture shows them using an 8" drill bit and a hand auger (it was successful I might add). Mind you, my dad lives right across the street from a Walmart where he could have bought an opener in half the time it took to do it his way! all of that, and then of course he didn't like the taste of the 'medicine' :)
Actually, that one pales in comparison to the photo of the ladder in the raised bucket of the skidsteer in order to reach the top branches in the tree he was cutting down...
Bless you all for being so normal! We a r e the normal ones, right??
(BTW, I will NOT take my Blue Bell for granted anymore after reading some of your comments... the Moolineum Crunch and Homemade Vanilla with Strawberries are my favorites.)
Love you all, and wish I could be with you at the Siesta Fiesta for my birthday,
Vonda in Atlanta
We are having "Tea and Testimony" at our MOP's group tomorrow. I am doing a okie theme (aka redneck;) Complete with sweet tea, bisquits and gravy, cornbread, blackeyed peas etc. Each table has a theme and most of them are traditional tea themes with finger sandwiches and complete tea service. That is too stuffy for me. It is my last year and day of mops and I am going out in complete redneck style! Love the spade. I miss blue bell icecream!
I didn't know that was a redneck thing to do. My husband and my son in law are both engineers and they use whatever tool works for the task.
When my family has redneck moments I normally follow it up with "Only in West Virginia" because we seem to have a lot of those redneck moments here in almost Heaven WV. So now I guess I will have to say only in WV or Texas would you see a thing like that. My husband loves to garden so I could just see him using garden tools in the kitchen. I have to ask though if your spade was new or used?
Michelle from WV
Oh, that is too funny!! Beth, I am so excited about this weekend at LPL in Boise. I'm going to drive you crazy on this blog telling you over and over again if Friday doesn't get here fast and then I'll probably drive you crazy telling you about it when I get back and what it meant to me. Plus, I'm going shopping. I have to admit I'm almost as excited about that. Shopping with other women, what a concept! See you this weekend, Beth.
Oh my! That reminds me of the Easter when we made resurrection cookies. They require 15 minutes of beating egg whites, and my mixer died in the middle. My husband put the beater in his drill and finished beating them. (worked like a charm!)

That's one way to "dig" into the ice cream! Classic!
Hahahah That was gr8! At least you got a bigger scoop :) I might have to start doing that when serving lasagna :)
Priceless!
That's okay, our son-in-law used a fishing pole last weekend to fly kites with our grand-daughters!

Have y'all ever heard of "Kitty Litter Cake".
It's made in a (brand new and not used! Ewww!) cat litter box and served with a (new again) kitty litter scoop! You tint coconut green for the top and roll small tootsie rolls in your hands and make them look like kitty poo draped around and on the edges!
Sounds like a redneck dessert if I ever heard of one! Our youngest daughter made it when she was in high school. The girls were all grossed out but the guys thought she was the coolest girl they'd ever met!
Connie
Too funny! Glad to see you are eating ice cream (my husband and I are dairy farmers)!! :) I've really enjoyed reading your blog...godly wisdom, meaningful, and great humor.

That is hilarious! We are having an event next spring for my women ministry and gardening is the theme! Wonder if I should ask Keith if I could borrow his garden shovel for a scooper? :)
I'm married to a redneck myself!
You know the saying..."if the spade fits...use it:)
Had to check in early today, busy day! Dr. aptmt and baby shower planning for my best friend from high school and my lil sis' high school graduation tonight!!
I want to dedicate a song to LPM today and all you crazy Siesta's out there that are crazy about our Lord! "Crazy" by Mercy Me, off the the Spoken for album. Have fun with this one-dance a little if you want, it's good exercise and praise all in one!:)

oh-my-goodness Rhonda - my husband suggested chips and salsa for our wedding, & I thought he was kidding!!! Maybe he wasn't ... ? Oh, our men are wonderful! Such a blessing (a hilarious one) to try to live with them.
That is too funny! God bless him. He was just being practical. I love that we are created in God's image so HE must have a wonderful sense of humor! Being a Texas girl myself, I love me some Blue Bell ice cream!
God Bless you all and thank you for sharing that!
Oh, now that is funny stuff!
Yes, sweet Beth, I'm with you. Years ago I wanted so badly to buy a spotlight for our house at Christmas...my husband said his outdoor light (the yellow ones with a CAGE around them) would work just fine. How, I ask, do you even think such a thing? It was like a gazillion watt bulb to begin with, our home glowed from 3 blocks away. I had intented for a softer, more subtle look. One night we were sound asleep when a neighbor frantically rang our doorbell. He was letting his dog out in the wee hours of the morning and saw that our "spotlight" was smoking and sparking. The two got the situation under control and I am now the proud owner of, not one, but multiple...ACTUAL...spotlights for my windows and door. Does it get any worse I ask you?
With a hope laid up in heaven,
Lisa
Keith - Beth - Amanda:
Garden spades and homemade vanilla Bluebell ice cream - it doesn't get much better than that!
I LOVE Y'ALL - THIS CRACKED ME UP & CONFIRMED WHY I LOVE Y'ALL!
All you needed was one of my delicious homemade PEACH COBBLERS warm and right out of the oven with that ice cream on top!
Love and Blessings,
GEORGIA JAN
HILARIOUS! I absolutely LOVE this! Sunshine
Fish fry, Blue Bell, garden spade...man, I miss the south!!
Hooray for Keith!
That is absolutely priceless!
Bless your little redneck hearts!
I wish I could show you all a picture of the cake my husband just made me for my birthday...mostly frosted (with some bald spots) with multiple kinds of frosting-- because he didn't have enough of the one kind. And -- he broke up one of those giant matches to poke in the top so that the foil wouldn't mess up his frosting!!! He told me 'at least I didn't put the red part (sulfur) of the the match in the cake!"
Thank you Jesus for a man who helps in the kitchen! Gives us women a break and a marvelous laugh!!
Love, love, love it! Isn't it just a man's way to never even know the difference or that it made a ripple in the pond.
He just wanted some ice cream. Thankfully the trowel/spade was clean!
I showed this picture to my hubby and he said "Well, guys are just more resourceful than women. I don't see why it's so funny." Which made me laugh even more! Praise the Lord for these resourceful men!
Thank you for making me laugh!!!!! I really needed it!
I love it! That is too funny.
THAT IS GREAT!! haha!!
I never thought of using that Thank the Lord it was clean LOL!
God Bless you!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if Keith knows it's on the blog Hee Hee!
Love
susan La
Umm, I would totally do that. Our motto around here is anything for ice cream.
I so love this! Rednecks rule the roost in my home, so I'll just have to tell my husband about this handy-dandy little usage for a garden spade. heheheh :)
Too cute! Thanks for making me smile this morning!
Rebecca
I would swear (if I swore) that our husbands were blood kin!!!! Oh my goodness Keith you are the best! Perspective: But GOD hath CHOSEN the foolish things of the world to confound the wise and the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of this world, and things which are despised, hath GOD CHOSEN, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that NO FLESH should glory in HIS presence. But of HIM are ye in CHRIST JESUS, who of GOD is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification and redemption: that according as it is written, he that glorieth, let him glory in the LORD. 1 Cor. 1:27-30 THE GOD OF GLORY CHOSE, HE HAD A CHOICE AND THIS WAS IT HE LIKES SIMPLE THINGS TOO Shalom
Love it!! I can see my side of the family doing this. We're from southern Ohio (ok...I know it's not Texas, but we too have an accent) but there we're called Hillbillies. This most definitely could have happened in my house growing up.
The cutest thing is when Grace has asked me..."Mom, are we hillbillies?" To which I replied, "You bet!" She thinks it's cool. :o)
At least it looked fairly new...my precious man drinks from the milk carton. I have to buy "company milk" and regular milk because he thinks a glass is a waste of time when he wants milk... I figure it could be much worse!
When I was first married, I asked my hubby to help me in the kitchen. We were making grilled cheese sandwiches. He offered to slice the cheese and I looked over to see him pull out his pocket knife out of his pocket to slice the cheese. No telling where that knife had been. I think that's one of the last times I asked for his help in the kitchen. He also had no idea why I was freaking out.
That's hilarious...I have to say, though, that if Blue Bell ice cream is a taste of heaven, that Sopapilla Cheesecake dessert of Amanda's has officially seen me through the pearly gates and propped me up fat and sassy on my mansion's front porch! From the heavenly realm, I tell you! I'd eat that stuff off a shovel!
You might be a neck.............
If you have to wash your hair in a garbage can by pouring water from the ice bucket, if there is NO HANDICAPPED ROOM available!!!
Been there, done that many times!!!
Well, at least it doesn't bend trying to get the ice cream out like our regular spoons do. I have got to remember to buy a new scoop. Then again, there must be some garden tools in the garage.
Thanks! I needed a good laugh today.
Looove IT!!!! Sounds just like something my family would do :)
Ok question. Is that the price tag still on the handle?! ;-) LOVE IT! If you could walk thru my home you just wouldn't even believe the "Appalachian Engineering" around here. That's what my man calls it!! God love 'em! ;-)

I have to say, having grown up in Texas with Blue Bell ice cream, I'd probably take it any way you can serve it to me!!!
Thanks for the photo!
Amy in California
Now that's what I call Jonesing for some icecream! Pardon the expression AJ...lol.
Dear Beth, Amanda, Melissa, LPM, and Siestas -
Please pray for me. I have a 2nd phone interview on Monday at 3:30pm. I appreciate it so much!
Much love,
Sharon, NC
...I'm just wondering...did you serve it in flower pots?
Blue Bell? Here in Siouxland it is Blue Bunny...we have the self-named Ice Cream Capital of the World just a little way north of here.
When we were kids, my sister used to ask my mom for some ice cream. Mom would say, 'Just a spoonful so you don't spoil your supper.'
Susan got to where she could balance almost a whole half gallon of ice cream on one spoon...who needs a trowel??
This post and the comments were a hoot to read. Thanks for the laughs!
Personally I think that is a great use for the spade. :)
Siesta Marita
Love it!!! Y'all are so real and that warms my heart so much!
Oh, seriously! Anything to get the Blue Bell out works for us. The bigger the serving, the better. Good thinking Keith! And the fish fry...I am so jealous...It's been so long since we've had a family fish fry. That's some good eatin right there!
Ya'll are doing it all right over there!
Too funny!!! I'll have to keep that in mind for the next time my ice cream scoop goes missing.
It also cracked me up to see that the kind of ice cream was Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. That's my man's favorite!! I induldge with him occasionally, but try to control myself. It is YUMMY!!
Sheri in NC
LOL! That is too funny y'all!! :)
*giggles*
What a great idea, I just hope he washed it!!!
Ever used a plastic hanger in a drill to stir paint? mmm-hmmm
So, I showed my man the picture and he said "what? Oh, I get it, he couldn't find the scooper." and walked away like it was nothing.
Yep, we are married to the same man.
Is it redneck for my husband to have delivered our eldest son using his Swiss Army knife to cut the cord? If it was a girl should it have been sewing scissors?
That is too funny! I'm a serious ice cream eater...I have three ice cream scoopers!
i want to know why a garden trowel was easier to find than a spoon or scoop in your kitchen?! (chuckling) i've heard blue bell is good, maybe even w/ a dirt topping? : )
Ice cream is just as good on a spade as it is on a scoop. Great Idea!!
I am not sure my hubby is a redneck but he would eat ice cream tht way if I let him :)
Thanks for the belly laugh... that goes to the "duck tape" siesta's and the "using the drill to open the wine bottle"... TOO FUNNY GIRLS!!! Guys, gotta love 'em!
Extremely funny. I love it! This is what makes life funny.
Thanks for the info on "Daniel" Lisa!! You are awesome!
That is hilarious. Our big red kneck moment has been since we moved into a new house, we now mow our yard with the weed-eater, there is no grass growing, just the weeds. Needless to say the neighbors just smile and wave
Nicole

That is hilarious!
I love you guys....I thought my man was the most precious, off the hook redneck in the south but I think yours has mine beat on this one!
You know you're a redneck when your man wants to visit the Blue Bell Creamery on vacation!=)
that's stinking hystarical! ;)
Boise today and tommorow!:) I know Beth tends to get butterflies, so I ran into these verses today:
1 Peter 4:19
1 Peter 5:7
Psalm 121
all in the Amplified version
