Behold Him There - A Post from Melissa
Siestas! Greetings from Atlanta!
First and foremost, I want to say a big thank-you to the many of you who took the time to submit your tried and true recipes to this greedy siesta! They were all wonderful, and I can honestly say that I have tried more than a few already. I believe it was “Warm in Alaska” who submitted the recipe for the roasted sweet potatoes, please correct me if I am wrong. Wow! Who would ever believe that fresh rosemary and crushed red pepper could transform a sweet potato into something heavenly??!!! They were unreal…and to be true to myself, I also had to add a few garlic cloves in the mix. Wonderful, I really could go on and on, but I will stop, for all of your sakes.
I am not sure if I informed you siestas that since I moved to Atlanta, I now work from home. This has brought about quite a few challenges, not the least of which is that I really miss the camaraderie that I have in my co-workers at Living Proof. Well, I have embraced this season of change from the hand of the living God and so have my mind set on staying positive about the minor difficulties. This has been quite difficult since about a month ago, not one but two of my computers were stolen, and then after losing an entire month of work, my brand new printer completely broke down. Now you can see why I am attracted to the kitchen as of late, since apparently my home office has some kind of demon. I am seriously not exaggerating and this morning I woke up with such intense ambition to tackle my work day with both hands. Well, my BRAND NEW AND PRICEY computer apparently was not ready to wake up, because it honestly took an hour and a half to start the stupid thing. Well, as you can see, I did finally get the computer working, but as for my good attitude, it was completely shot out the window. I realized, after calling my Mom and vomiting my discouragement all over her at 8:30 in the morning, that something was going to have to happen or I was going to be a foul person to be around today.
The good news is that I know what almost always obliterates my bad attitude. This may sound silly, but when I know that I am inconsolable, I listen to the song “Before the Throne of God Above” about three or four times, or however many times it takes to change my bad attitude. I happen to listen to Selah’s version from the album “Hiding Place” but I am sure that there are many good versions of it since it was written in the mid-late 1800’s (written by Charitie Less Bancroft).
To use South Beach Diet jargon, these lyrics are not just white bread; these lyrics contain whole, unprocessed oats. I am humiliated by the metaphor I carved, but I mean seriously these lyrics are heavily saturated with great theological truths. Take a minute to read through them if you will:
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
A great High Priest whose name is love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart
When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin
Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me
Behold Him there! The risen Lamb
My perfect, spotless, Righteousness
The Great unchangeable I AM
The King of Glory and of Grace
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased by His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high
With Christ my Savior and my God
With Christ my Savior and my God
By the time I get to the third verse in this blessed song (“Behold Him there! The risen Lamb”), I can barely fight the tears back. My mind is always drawn immediately back to the vision that John sees in the book of Revelation of the risen Christ! If I could, I would take all day to break down the many wonderful theological truths that are offered in this song, but since we don’t have all day, I just want to record three of my favorite ones. To begin, the first verse presents Jesus very similarly to the way the book of Hebrews does, as our great high priest who is ever interceding for us. What could be better than that, I ask you? Next, the second verse reminds us of the great doctrine of imputed righteousness- namely, that when sinful man truly acknowledges Christ’s lordship and places faith in Him, that immediately the righteousness of Christ is transferred to his or her account. Truly, one of the major scandals of the gospel message is that just as Adam’s sin is imputed to every human being, Christ’s righteousness is imputed to every believer and subsequently they are being changed into his likeness (Rom. 5:12; 2 Cor. 3:18). What great news! Especially when I have been cursing the computer all morning long!
Lastly, the third verse lifts our eyes to focus once again on the unchangeable I AM, who is equated with the person of Jesus Christ, I might add. Okay, now that we’ve gotten to end of this, there is just one more theological truth I have to mention- our union with Christ Himself! This is one of my favorite doctrines ever! Romans chapter 6 is one of the main biblical sources that we derive this doctrine. I encourage you to read it today, it is just awesome. Our lives are hidden with Christ on high, and we have the privilege of identifying with Him in His life, death, and His resurrection. In a very real way, ladies, we not only died with Christ but the text says we were raised with Him in His glorious resurrection. Our lives are hidden with Him until the future age when we will reign with Him forever in the new creation.
Oh Siestas, take a moment with me to forget about flawed computers and broken printers and behold Him there! The risen Lamb! Our perfect spotless Righteousness! The Great Unchangeable I AM! THE KING OF GLORY AND OF GRACE!

Melissa, thank you. this siesta desperatly needed that encouragement today. taking my eyes off my dispair and setting them on Jesus!
Thank you, Melissa! So needed for today! I love what you said about Adam's sin but God's righteousness and being made into his likeness. I was reading Romans 5 this weekend and that part stuck out to me. I think God obviously wants me to hold on to that truth!
Thank you Melissa for my devotion today. I'm going to print it and study on it.
So glad your computer is working.
Thank you so much for checking in *today* and sharing this. I've been in some kind of funk and man, to read through that hymn is making me look to Him instead of myself!
Thanks Melissa for those words!!!I needed to hear them. With my husband leaving on Sun. for a 12 day trip to East Asia, money issues etc. that have robbed my focus today, I needed to take a moment to refocus on my God!
Believing God for Much!

Oh girl, I hear you! My go-to song is "Lord You Are Holy". That song jerks my butt right back in front of Him, at His feet, on my knees and full of praise and worship. It makes all the bad things disappear and reminds me of the wonderful things He has blessed me with, what this life is about - serving Him - and how great He is. Now I have to go listen to it...
Congrats on your move to The ATL. It's a great town (minus the traffic). Have you found a home church yet?
Melissa, that is one of my absolute favorite songs in the world. And I very much needed the lyrics right now. Thank you!!! Awesome entry....I should really start printing out y'all's entries and putting them in a binder so I can always have them to go back to. Y'all are so awesome for making this blog available to us and sharing with us.
♥
Amen and Amen! An absolutely beautiful remembrance of Christ and all that He has done for us. I love, love, love that song too! I just heard it for the first time a couple of months ago (I had no idea it was written in the late 1800's), but it has become my favorite! What a wonderful reminder that whatever we are going through dims in comparison to Christ. Amen, sister! Thanks for sharing with us today a Word! And thanks for "choosing joy" even amidst many technological difficulties:)
I put this CD on my computer weeks ago and I never noticed that song. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. I am learning thru the "Ascents" study that music is powerful and can change me even if it can't change my circumstances.
I have been having a really awful day at work (at one point I had to escape to the ladies room because I was starting to cry). After reading this post, I am reminded that God cares about us and is with us in our struggles.
Thanks for the reminder.
Melissa:
You have said it all and so beautifully. Thank you for pointing us toward God. He is truly worthy to be praised. I will be praying for you. Thank you Kim B. in AZ
Melissa,
I read about the sweet potatoes and wanted to offer another version: peel, cube sweet potatoes lay then on a cookie sheet or stone pan, drizzle with olive oil, kosher salt and pepper. Roast 450 degrees for 15-20min. They will be yummy. My kids love them too.
Oh how I thank God for ya'll. It is sublime to me the way God sends messages to us that are a THEME. I am at present doing Stepping Up. In fact I just finished my homework last night. I am on Psalm 124 WOW do I appreciate Miss Beth's speaking what I am thinking. (My mommy said, someday you will wish you could be doing homework..I had to be 40 to get to that point but PRAISE GOD I got there.) I was reflecting privately about how daily life consumes me so much I forget that I AM WORTH SOMETHING because of the sacrifice Christ made for me. God has a mighty purpose for each one of us. Satan so much wants us to live in defeat, lies and discouragement (The evil one's mightiest weapon in my opinion). I thank you for reminding me again today that my Savior lives within me and renews me daily to be more like Him. I am a Holy Spirit filled MIRACLE. Praise you Father and thank you for these wonderful women that keep "bringing it home"!!!!

I love this song too!!! The first time I heard it was on Chris Rice's CD "Peace Like a River: The Hymns Project." I was so blown away by the picturesque lyrics I could have gone to be with the Lord in that moment. Shane & Shane did a rendition of it on "Pages" that is equally as soul stirring. Oh, the theology, the imagery, the passion of those old hymns written in days long past. Makes you wonder what it will be like to sit down at the table with so many saints that have gone before us. And, to ponder the throne of God above where I may touch the hem of the garment of the One Who lived and died for me...and whosoever. Glorious grace! Mmm...Mmmm...Mmmm
Okay, Melissa... your post just gave me goosebumps all over and made me start to cry here in my corner of the world. A selection of songs sung by Selah got me through a terribly dark and difficult season this past year (to clarify: God used Selah and those songs to minister to my heart and get me through), and Before the Throne was the single-most effective song in getting my heart enveloped in God's love, protection, and promises. It was particularly meaningful because one of the battles I faced was going before a head of school, board chair, and then members of the department of education and eventually a State Representative to plead our cause and try to get a poor policy changed and good law clarified that had a very difficult affect on our family. It was astounding to have God assure me through that song that no matter who I went before here on earth, and no matter the outcome - good or bad - when the most critical day of judgment comes, I will have a strong and perfect plea before God above because the sinless Savior who loves me and died for me will intercede and welcome me Home. Case closed.
SO, not realizing how much I could use that song again today, I went to open iTunes on my laptop (that crashed twice, and I too write from home -- which, I'm sure you will agree, has the wonderful benefit of allowing for audible cries and groans as the spirit leads) to listen to Selah sing after reading your post, and it's telling me I'm not allowed to listen. Not foiled because you encouraged me not to be, I retrieved my iPod, only to find it isn't charged. And my headphones are nowhere to be seen. But my iPod is charging now, and I'll find those headphones somewhere in this house. Until then, I'll sing to the lyrics on your post, and then maybe get down low to praise the God of all creation who LIVES and cares for me -- the Great Unchangeable I AM (even though my printer isn't working this week either!!!).

PS: Thank you Melissa, Amanda, and Beth for providing such wonderful, fun-filled, meaningful, inspirational work breaks. You're the friends I "chat" with as I write alone at home. : )
How we always need a little heavenly perspective when the things in this world break down!!
God is always on our side.
yesterday after a very hard day and a diagnosis at the dentist of large bill I just starting singing out "Jesus Lord of Heaven".
taking things with a grain of salt is such great advice.
The Lord will take care of it all!! And we learn from all those situations that confound us and irritate us.
Thank you Melissa. I needed to hear that and read Romans 6 so badly. I am teaching "A Heart Like His" and am struggling with some understanding in week 8. I love teaching Bible study but sometimes I need a word for myself and that is what I got from you today! Fly with Christ
Annie
Amen!!!
Melissa,
I'm sorry your day didn't start out very cheerful, but good job on hanging in there. I guess everyone has a song that is powerful enough to "snap them out of it". For me that song is "We are the Reason". I first heard it in the 1980's by David Meece sang it. I think Avalon has done a version of it. It is a very powerful song for me. A reminder of what Jesus did for a fallen world, what he would have done for me if I was the only person on this earth. It puts things in perspective for me when I think i'm having an unbearable day.
Another song that does it for me is Jesus Lover of My Soul by
Darlene Zschech.
Ok I will stop. Hang in there and remember that you are covered in prays everyday.
Okay I am at work waiting to go into a meeting and read that beautiful song. Yes and I am crying. I am going to take your advice and print it out and keep it with me...when I am irritated beyond words at my work place, I will read it. Love you Siesta!!
Oh, this song is a balm to my soul. I break out in fresh tears each time I hear or sing those truths! This line, especially, banishes my gloom and self-indulgent thoughts:
"Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me"
Thank you for sharing it today.
WOW!! Well said Melissa. This blog is such a blessing to my life.
Our God is just awesome! I've never heard this song, but have got to go download it now!!! Those are some pretty powerful lyrics.
Sounds like you have had quite a ride in Atlanta!! I'm so sorry to hear about your computers. That is so frustrating! Praying for a much better afternoon!!
Blessings,
stephanie
It is so nice to hear from you Melissa! Sorry about the "computer demons" being on the attack. But on the good side of that attack was you highly insightful post, that I am sure will mean so much to all the siesta's, myself included. the highlight for me was
"one of the major scandals of the gospel message is that just as Adam’s sin is imputed to every human being, Christ’s righteousness is imputed to every believer and subsequently they are being changed into his likeness"
I want to bask in that truth today (everyday).
Hows Alanta for you? I love the underground mall up there.
I had to say thank you, Melissa, and tell you that I'm certain that your blog post was in direct answer to the prayer I whispered this morning. As I sat down at my own computer, I asked my God to send me a word of TRUTH for my downcast and discouraged soul. (Okay... my specific prayer was "put something in my e-mail box that will encourage me today." But hey, He knows I check the blog daily!!) Your post has lifted me. Thank you, and Amanda and Beth!! You are all such a blessing to me.
Thank you for making my morning, what a wonderful reminder that I really needed. You must make your mother proud.
Melissa, My heart is overjoyed with the words of that song!!! Thank you for reminding me what cd it is on. I went immediately and got my Selah cd Now I am heading into the kitchen to finish up some cooking I am doing for my granddaughters graduation party and will bask in the great theology of Before The Throne Of God Above. I need to know this today!
It's good to hear from you. I pray strength & perseverance for you.
Because He Lives!!!
WL
Melissa, that song is new to me. Thanks so much for sharing the lyrics and your thoughts!
It is amazing how all our struggles, issues, and heart wrending circumstances pale in the presence of the King of Glory!! We are frail creatures of dust prone to wandering far away from our purpose of enjoying God's presence. For his good pleaseure, we were created. A vessel to display his glory, we were created.
Thank you for the great word!
Blessings,
Robin
Such good stuff, Melissa! I homeschool and did not have a productive morning. I hate when I am a grouchy mom! I really needed to hear this! As I read Rom 6, this is what stuck out to me.... and I love it in the amplified! SO thankful that I dont have to walk in my old, yuck flesh...
6We know that our old (unrenewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin. 7For when a man dies, he is freed (loosed, delivered) from [the power of] sin [among men]. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also LIVE with Him
Dearest Melissa oh how I hate to hear that you have had a thief problem. I live in GA (actually I am an original) and I was so hoping you wouldn't experience this problem. I am so sorry you have had to go through this. I hope you and Colin have safe days ahead and keep praising the Lord for His mercies on us and His blessings. Keep cookin' siesta. Better days are ahead. And speaking of that I must go BACK to my local Kroger and pick up some tomato sauce that I forgot to get this morning for dinner tonight.
It's good to hear from you. Looking forward to your next post.
God Bless
Amen and Amen!!! You said it so beautifully...I can truly understand why your mother is so proud of the young woman you have become and are becoming.
There is nothing like music to lift us out of a bad mood or attitude. I really like "Revelation Song" by Kari Jobe. WOW!! Sing that with her a few times and I dare you not to have a change of heart and attitude. It brings me to tears every time I listen to it.
Blessings to you Melissa,
Isaac's Mom
Melissa,
Thank you so much for the reminder today. Following a not so fun Mother's Day, conflict with the hubs, today we had a setback in our business. It so difficult owning your own business as each week has a crisis of some sort, although, each week brings opportunity for God to show Himself so faithful. I printed and am praying the lyrics to the song. I also work from home and yes it is a challenge, especially if you are a people person. God has taught me many things in the cave and I have come to appreciate the quiet. Grace and Peace, dear sister.
Oh, Melissa, God has graced you with the same gift for words that He gave your Mom. You paint such a vivid picture with words!
We watched the last day of "Stepping Up" today in my Bible study group. When Travis sang "God Bless the Broken Road," we all just lost it. That leads me to my question, how did you and Colin meet? I would love to know the story behind that!
Blessings to you from Alabama!
You Moore women have such a God inspired way with words. What a wonderful way to start my afternoon.
Melissa, I have been dying to see if you would post your queso recipe- I am on the great queso recipe hunt! If you would share, one siesta would be greatly blessed!
Shane and Shane just put out a great version of the song on their newest album, Pages... they sing it alright, I guess (:)), but the sound of my 12 year old developmentally disabled daughter singing it from the backseat, with words that few understand, but perfectly along with the melody, is way better than Shane and Shane, or anyone really!! and I'm quite certain the Lord agrees with me on that!!
Amen, Siesta! I need this song on my i-pod. It truly puts everything in perspective.
I work from home also here in Atlanta, and it can really be lonely sometimes. But thank goodness God is always close by. Hang in there. He never fails.
Melissa, I love that song too, and just about any song made of whole wheat. The white stuff I can do without most days. I like songs with fiber!
Darling, I wanted to raise both my hands in the air in praise while I read this. Powerful. What a beautiful Savior. Teach, Teacher.
Amen and Amen, siesta!! What wonderful teaching.
Keep it coming...
Thank you Melissa for that encouragement today. You said it beautifully and right at a time when I really needed it.
I will be praying for you.

P.S. What's for dinner?
Beth--doesn't your heart just turn "Mama cartwheels" when you read/hear something of this magnitude articulated through your daughters?
This morning, my nearly-3-year-old, Noah, brought me a metal cross that we keep on our entry table. He asked, "Mama, who died on dis twoss for aw hins?"
He had the most serious expression, like he was quizzing me just as I might quiz him when I teach his Sunday School class. I said, "Well, Noah, JESUS died on the cross for our sins because He loves us!" Seriously, he nodded his little head in approval and said, "Dat's wite...dood job, mommy!" I was so tickled, yet SO thankful, that my two year old "gets it!" I just had to rejoice right there in the middle of the playroom floor.
So, as I read Melissa's post, I can only imagine how you must wanna dance when you see your twenty-something daughter proclaim His Truth!
Siestas, may we all continue to talk with our children about the Lord when we rise up, when we lie, down, when we come in, when we go out, when we walk along the way....(all day, all day, as Miss Patty Cake would say)...may we always give Him praise! Lord, Jesus, we thank You for producing a harvest through the lives in which You've commissioned us to sow!
Melissa,
What a lesson!! I want to just fall face down right here...think I will. I, too, love that song -- lyrics that are so powerful and truth. Follow it up with "How Deep the Father's Love" and we can fight whatever comes our way.
Good Word today!! Thanks for bringing it.
Blessings,
Dori
You go, Girl!!! That was some good preaching. Thank-you!
Sorry about the computers.
I have the same feelings about "In Christ Alone". Can't hardly get through it without crying. AND, no one sings it like Travis!
Oh how I love Him who has redeemed me!
Melana in Wyoming
From the story your Mom tells of you having a new fresh notebook to this song, I identify with you on many things, Melissa. Yes. I even have motions my hands must do for this song. They are all a part of that surrendering process. Yes! Love it! Love you much and will be praying over that work space and the work itself (your offering before His Throne) for you, Sister!
Love,
holly
Y'all don't have to publish this, and I am not looking to publicize my blog, but I received an email today from my church about some of our supported missionaries in Myanmar, and I would like for you, at LPM, to pray for them. :(
Here is the address:

Hallelujah and Amen! Thank you Melissa....I have been blessed by your words!! I do have some go to songs to reshift my focus but my favorite go to passage is in Habakkuk 3....reworded a bit to fit the circumstance I am facing at the time:
Though the car does not start and there is no food in the fridge, though the computer crashes and there is no memory on the hard drive, though the dogs got out and are no longer in our yard,
YET I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. (Hab. 3:18-19)
Prayng that the details of our days begin to fall into place as we choose to rejoice and be joyful in God our Savior!
Melissa,
Thank you. I so needed this word today.
I just told a dear sister in Christ I was so tired my entire body ached and I needed refreshment before Bible Study tonight.
Reading the words to the beautful hymn and focusing on the King of Glory just took about 20 years off this old body!
The Risen Lamb, the Alpha & Omega, our Prince of Peace Whos is called Faithful & True...
I could keep going as we all could praising our dear Lord.
Melissa,
Thank you for sharing some of your gifts with us. Wow, there is a lot to chew on. How could I possibly take for granted these things and yet I do it every day
How could we not praise Him!
Bless you,
Jina
I have been stydying Romans 6,10 and 12 the past few weeks and have been falling in love all over again. Thank you for your keen insight, Beth's Mothers Day post was amazing, it reminded me so much of my own Mom...wish i could have spent it with her like you did.
Keep on COOKING girl, it soothes the soul. (And I swear, it makes me feel closer to my family that is far away.)
April
Dear, dear Melissa, I know God used you as a willing vessel to carry this message to many who desperately needed it today, myself included. I just listened to the Selah version on Godtube, and I hope you won't mind if I join you in listening to it over and over as my too-often-battered soul needs.
Praise Him for reaching us in so many delightful, wonderful, diverse, and amazing ways. I just never grow weary of wondering how He's going to reach me next.
And thank you to siesta Hillary who pointed me to Romans 5. I'm going to take a good, long look at that verse tonight.
Praise Him! Instead of looking downward and inward, I'm looking UPWARD!
Amen! Thank you!!
O Melissa! I so needed that today! Continue to set your eyes on HIM!
Melissa, once again I feel our "Siesta Bond"--Selah ministers to me like no one else. Their music has brought me into the presence of God many times and I believe "Hiding Place" is my all-time fav. Thank you for sharing your life with us. I'm an Atlanta Siesta, too, and I don't love to cook, so feel free to send your leftovers to my house. I am sure my hubby and children will be eternally grateful. ;-)
Awesome. Just bought the song on Itunes and it IS a perspective-shifter...thanks for sharing it. And if you're still in the sharing mood, I'd love your queso and quacomole recipes. :o)
Great word Melissa, and very timely. My husband and I both work at home and have a teething four-month-old son. Our water heater and air conditioning unit broke this week (it's a lovely 95 degrees in FL) I have been weeping and wailing more than a few times...I will go now and download Selah. I've annointed my household appliances, maybe now I desperately need to annoint myself. Thanks for the word. Cook on Siesta!
Thank you!
Just went to youtube to hear the song for the first time. WOW! Powerful, humbling, liberating!!
Thanks for sharing Melissa.
Melissa,
This Georgia siesta is so sorry you have had such a crummy morning but thankful that you turned your eyes toward our Lord and found victory over the crummy.
Thanks for the song--I've never heard it but will definitely go find it. It certainly is powerful and will fit beautifully with the study of the book of Hebrews that the Spirit is leading me through this summer.
Captured by His Grace,
Leah
Dear Melissa -
Thank you so much for these wonderful encouraging words. I have been in despair over being unemployed. Thank you for reminding to look up and not at my circumstances. God is so good!!
Much love,
Sharon, NC
Dear Melissa...I too LOVELOVELOVE this song--my sister came back from Bible college and I learned it from when she would sing it in the shower...
Thank you for the blessing of it and the rest of God's referenced Word today!!!
Praying for you...
~Deborah
I love, love, love this song!! thank you for sharing it with us today. all I need is a link to listen to it on my computer!!
Melissa, I can really identify with you. I, too, work at home on a computer. I am a medical transcriptionist for a large hospital in NC, where I live. I can relate to your computer frustrations. I love being at home, though. I have 3 school-aged kids and I am almost always the one who gets to take them and pick them up from school. I am completely available for them. I love that! I also have a song I listen to and sing with all my heart when I have a bad attitude. "Revelation Song" Recently I did your mom's study "Stepping Up" and learned why praising God seems to lift my spirits and attitude so much. The words to this song are straight out of the book of Revelation and are sweet praise to Jesus. You've got to listen to it if you've never heard it.---Lacy in NC
Just one word needed..."GLO-RY!!!
I can relate. Here is the song on You Tube for those who want to hear this and worship together with Melissa.

Dear Melissa, Thank you for the refocus. I need a High Priest who can sympathize with my weaknesses and is interceding for me right now. Thank you for the reminder. In Jesus' Love Kathy Knoblock
Melissa, thank you, thank you! I had one of those days at work and I was dragging a bit. I was thinking of wallowin' in a bit of self-pity, but now - now my focus is back where it's suppose to be! I've never heard that song, but now, I've got to find it! Music has been such a wonderful way to keep my thoughts where they need to be and not on my problems/failures/mistakes. Thanks again for bringing a word to us siestas ;o)
Melissa!
I enjoy thinking about you in Atlanta. I just moved from Georgia to New Mexico six months ago, and I miss Georgia so much! The Atlanta area is a great place with so much going on! Sorry about the traffic. It is the pits! There are lots of great churches out there, too. Good luck on your journey if you haven't found one already!
Your post is great and very helpful today. I am getting ready for Bible Study tonight, and everything seems to be preventing me from getting prepared! We are doing Jesus the One and Only, and it is good, but the enemy is fiercly opposing what God is doing.
Anyhow, I do need to try and finish, now that my kids are asleep!
Enjoy The ATL! It is great!
Love,
Holly in NM
Great post Melissa! It was so good to hear from you. You are one smart girl. Praise Jesus that we are one in Him!
Dear Melissa,
What a powerful word you've given! Thank you so much. I have never been the same since hearing Travis sing "In Christ Alone" back at my first Living Proof event. The words are so powerful and so true.
"In Christ alone my hope is found."
Need I say more. :o)
Wow! You go through despair too? :) just kidding. I am so blessed to have stumbled upon this blog site several months ago...thank you for being candid with us.
I love how you pointed out Romans 6...this morning I woke up with the song "Give Me Jesus" playing in my spirit. To be in union with Him...Christ crucified. That as He died, we died that we may have life as He is life.
Love it! Much blessings....
What blessed encouragement! Thanks for sharing.
By the way, your Chicken recipe was delicious. It is on our "Fix this AGAIN, soon" list!!
I hope the Siesta who was going to compile all the recipes onto a pdf format really does it... what a fun idea.
Thanks, Melissa, for your post...connecting the verses of the song to Scripture passages--I love it! Lots of stuff for my brain to chew on for awhile.
As far as our computers & other things that malfunction, I feel your pain. Our current computer is over 5 years old and it feels old and sensitive and outdated; there are some things I just can't do on it. (But at least I can read y'all's blog!) Several years ago, I prayed that the Lord would help our washing machine work right so that it wouldn't overflow anymore (husband was out of town when it started overflowing, and I'm *extremely* non-mechanically-inclined). I called in a repairman, too, but he couldn't find anything wrong with it. It just started working right, and I was very thankful!
Praying that your computer would be blessing to you (and not the other)...

Hello Siestas! Melissa, thanks for the encouraging words. I LOVE AND AM CRAZY AND SMITTEN BY HYMNS!! So for you to apply your theologically trained brain (and heart) to help exegesis a hymn was quite a treat. In fact I'm such a fan of hymns, a few years back my mother-in-law and I wallpapered our home's main hallway in hymns - taken straight from the hymnal. The line of hymns at eye level is the place where I put my most, most, most favorite songs; like Immortal Invisible, God Only Wise; O The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus; I'd Rather Have Jesus; Tell Me the Old, Old Story; He Hideth My Soul, and on and on.
If I can ever get smart enough to figure out how to start a blog, I'll post some pictures because this is the most commented on part of my house (and this is a house that showcases more dead animals on the walls than your average Sportsman's Warehouse). Isn't it Beth who prays the prayer, "Lord, make me smarter than I am?" Anyway, I really need to start praying this over myself so I can get smart enough to set up a blog - esp. before our Siesta Fiesta weekend this August!
Melissa - I'm glad you loved the sweet potatoes. Now I'll have to make some more and throw in garlic. Gracious, the first summer a friend brought these over I spent the rest of the season cooking these like every third day til my family practically begged me to lay off.
Also, Amanda, thanks for the Sopapilla recipe yesterday. I so proudly announced to my Former West Texan Husband when he walked in the door last night that we were having sopaDILLAs for dessert. He gave me one of those looks that said, without words, he was terrified to eat it since I didn't know how to SAY it.
One of these years I will morph into the Tex Mex Chef he dreams of, it will be the same day I overcome my aversion to cilantro, so, I'm not exactly holding my breath.
Best go,
Warm in Alaska.
Melissa, thank you so much for blessing us today! You have reminded me where my focus needs to be and how to give myself a big attitude adjustment now and then! Thank you!
Michelle
Way back in my single and career days, I traveled very often with my job as a corporate trainer. I trained at the companies who purchased our products. Many times, I would have sleepless nights and feel disturbed in my soul. I was convinced, too, that my laptop had a demon. It was my job lifeline as I trained using that computer. So often it would just quit working or start doing crazy things. Data would disappear, etc.
When I shared about these problems with one of mentors who asked me if I always cleaned my hotel room. You can imagine the quizzical look I gave her. They have cleaning people for that, and if you aren't happy, call the housekeeping department. She asked if I cleaned the room spiritually. She said that you didn't know who had been in that hotel room before you and what had happened and they may have left some demons behind. I thought she was crazy. Demons can't possess a Christian, but they can drive you crazy. After I started binding Satan, rebuking any demons, etc. and asking the Holy Spirit to fill the room or house with the resurrection power of our Lord Jesus Christ, you won't believe how many of my problems stopped. I slept like a baby most every night. Even the computer quit acting up!
Maybe it is just me, but I still do it now when we travel be it a home we rent or a hotel room. So, if you have only cleaned your apartment in the physical realm, try cleaning it in the spiritual one, too. Praying over anything can't hurt!
I understand if you don't want to post this.

Wow, Melissa, thank you. I needed this today. You have a flawed computer and a broker printer, I have flawed health and a broken marriage. But instead of focusing on those things... I will "behold HIM". God has used you today!
Melissa!:) Good to hear from you:) I love that song too! When I was reading the words, I could hear the song playing in my head-I wonder if I have on cd somewhere, I want to listen to it again...Hmm...My favorite part of that song is:
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased by His blood My life is hid with Christ on high With Christ my Savior and my God
With Christ my Savior and my God
Don't be lonely Melissa! My older sis in TX has felt that way too lately since she moved away from us back home. Moving around as a kid, I understand it takes a little time to get used to new surroundings:) It's all good, girl, it's all good. ((HUGS)) to you,
katiegfromtennesee
verse to comfort you with the computer issues:)

Melissa, your post was a reminder for me to fix my eyes on Jesus, my great high priest, my advocate, and my God. Too often I get distracted by the little things and they steal my joy.
Without a doubt you have the gift of teaching. Your insight and encouraging words refreshed my spirit.
Thank you for stopping by today!

I just love to hear good solid biblical truth. It's the rock I needed to stand on at this moment. Especially when I feel like I have chosen to stand on sand today instead. Melissa, your message helped me to choose to stand on the rock today, who is truth and forever praised, amen.
The enemy of our soul hates it when we start remembering the truth God has given us. And that makes me do a happy dance because it means we have just kicked some serious devil butt! Hallelujah! I will not let him accuse me anymore today!
Thanks Melissa!
Kari
Melissa,
That was so powerful and full of truth. Singing praise to Jesus always shifts our eyes to Him who has done everything for us! Thanks for sharing and I'll see you in August in San Antonio!
Love,
Dianne
Nothing compares to our God! What a beautiful post. I taught about our great Intercessor, always making intercession for us in my former Sunday school class. I often think on just that point alone, why do I worry and have anxious thoughts when Jesus is praying for me?
What a beautiful song. I had my praise music playing this morning instead of having the t.v. on and what a difference that made!!
Thank you for writing and sharing with us today and we can behold Him whereever we may be, whatever we may be going through, seriously, I have beheld His glory at the Wal Mart!! He is Good!!!
Have a great evening Melissa!
Love,
Patty
Melissa!
Thanks for being real with us! Going through it together is the only way to do this life! I thank God for you and everyone at Living Proof! And I'm right there with you...tough times...God can bring us through! Only God!
Love,
Donna (the mom of twin boys)
You know Beth, you are blessed with TWO incredibly talented and smart daughters. I remember Beth telling in the blog once that she told Melissa she would be a teacher herself one day...I think Melissa is closer than she thinks she is!!
So, Melissa, when is your first class....with LifeWay?
Janet
WoW Melissa!! You need to get fired up more often girl!! Somehow I think one day you may be following in your mama's footsteps of studies & books....bring it on! Thank you for being so REAL in life and for loving Jesus the way that you do.
Melissa,
I am so grateful that you took the time to post today and offer such an encouraging, strengthening word!
I immediately bought the song from itunes. I admit that I had never heard this song. It is incredible. I bought it with my husband in mind...knowing that he desperately needs TRUTH infused into him right now. I can't wait to share it with him.
Bless you!
From one adventurous cook to another,
Elaine
Melissa: I learned a trick AFTER a bad computer crash (short of being highly responsible and frequently downloading files to a removable drive): When I'm in the middle of important, involved writing project, I'll periodically save the file and email it to myself. Then if my PC crashes AGAIN, I can retrieve the file through my email account from any other trusty PC.
Hope that helps somebody out there!
This is really off the subject, but I just came across the "God's Word and Big Texas Hair" facebook page for Beth, and have to say how much I loved Amanda's entry there about "accomanying someone to the ship." Thank you so much for that, Amanda! - Linda
Dear Melissa,
Thank you so very much for teaching, sharing, exhorting, and leading me into worship. As a worship leader I intend to put this song in our next set.
You filled my mind and heart with such love for Jesus and what He has done for me.
Blessings on your head,
What a terrific post! Girl, you hardly ever post, but when you do...watch out! I agree with you 100%! I also believe that when you are able to try to grasp what Christ truly has done for us, you're right...IT"S SCANDALOUS! It actually makes my poor blond head spin..Honestly, not just sins, but imputed righteousness, seated with Christ in the heavenlies, freedom from bondage, release from the pit(or in some cases, pits), the power that raised Christ from the dead, all this and more (more than we will ever fully grasp)including but not ending with Life, more abundantly and eternal! My word-"what is man, that YOU are mindful of him?" It's too much LORD!
Thank you- you are a beautiful, bright, thoughtful young woman, who I can tell, takes after your mama!Love to you dear heart-
I'll pray for the de-bugging of your technical life!

I'm glad I stopped by today! Thanks!

Melissa, thank you for that great post. It was also good to hear from you....sorry you are so frustrated, whatever you are working on, the devil must feel threatened in some way. Thank You for that inspirational song. Our God is so faithful.
Now, could you send that recipe out someday when you do another post? It sound delicious.....
May our Father bless you richly....

WE need to pray harder for you and for God to just cover your work! I loved the song and the lyrics written out for me to just meditate on...I love sound theology, and I love the way God works through it and in us.
I am tickled to read from you! I just love you bunches!
You do not know what this has meant for me! I'm so glad you're computer started working and I'm so thankful for God speaking to me through you! WHOA as Joey from friends would say! I needed this!
WOW - amazing! SO amazing and true. THANK you for sharing this! Sunshine
Thank you so much, Melissa, for turning my focus back to what it needed to be on. After some minor things that had me feeling sorry for myself and one big thing that I was worrying over for a friend in a medical situation, I really needed to read and think about what you wrote in this point! Thank you again--many blessings! SJM from the Big D
I've never blogged on here before, but I just only started the whole blogging thing a few weeks ago. First off, what God is doing through LMP is awesome! It's so amazing how God can use the internet to minister to people all over the world. Secondly, Melissa, I hope you keep writing. This is the second post I've seen from you, and I can tell you have a special gift. God's blessed me today through you!
Thank you,
Amber Ploof, SC
Melissa,
I needed the encouragement! Thanks so much for sharing. I had forgotten about this song. I'll listen to it tonight as I decompress after a hard day.
Truth...
How refreshing!
Praise and Worship followed by some teaching of the Word....I'm so glad you are hooked up again....keep working from home More Often!!!!! I Love these lessons!
Melissa,
You couldn't have written this at a better time. I've been so frustrated today with my temporary, carnal problems. I was flucuating from being angry to condemning myself for being so angry. BUT, ah, just to remember that He is on the throne above and He holds all things in His very capable hands!! Thanks for the uplifting reminder!!
Thank you Melissa! Beautiful! I love how praising Him takes our eyes off our circumstances! Such a blessing!
Melissa,
Thank you for letting God work through you and giving me exactly what I needed at precisely the right time!
Peace,
Kim in Apex, NC
Melissa I must say thank you for your words. I just finished my finals tonight at seminary and one was a paper on the customs of the passover in Exodus 12: 1-28. Not only did I have to write about the customs but once that was complete I had to go about and show the comparisons of Jesus Christ and the Passover lamb. Wow can you say touching. And your post goes so well with me. I have been on a high ever since I finished it last night. I so much enjoy digging deep into our Heavenly Father's word and have Him reveal himself in such away. Thank you again for your words and I will be praying for you as you adjust to working at home.

By the way I thought I would let you know I to have my degree in interior design and now have just completed my first year at Covington Seminary.
Melissa,
I was at school/work today when I commented on your entry, and went through my jump drive absoultely positive that the song was on there. It wasn't, but I'm transfering it right now so I can have it tomorrow! =)
Hey Melissa, we're getting ready to be relocated to Atlanta ourselves, and was just wondering if you have found one or more churches that you really like that you would reccomend? Thanks!
Wow, what an awesome post, full of the Greatness of our God, thankyou!
Blessings to you and your home Melissa!
So needed this - have been so discouraged. Thank you for your honesty Melissa.
Amen, Siesta!
Melissa, that hymn made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, and it brought tears to my eyes. Those old hymns that are packed tight with great theology are just amazing, aren't they? This one is new to me. Time to get my daughter busy with her ipod stuff to get me a copy.
Thank you for breaking out the truths like that. I hesitated a bit when the word "doctrine" appeared; for a long time, that meant "intellectual assent to a philosophical system" while I sadly wondered why Christianity was so dull and dry.
Now (praise Him!) it means a way to get to know my living Lord better. What a difference! He is so merciful...
Being able to say "Jesus, my passion is You" (like Travis' song in the first Stepping Up) is such an awesome blessing.
Thanks for posting. Sure gave my day a huge boost...
And thanks, Beth, for nurturing such a contagious passion in your girls and in your siestas.
Thank you so much for your encouragement today. I had a not so fun mothers day considering my mom didn't come for the dinner I had prepared for her. I wasn't surprised but, it still hurts. The song reminded me where my focus should be...THANKS!
Called, challenged, lonely, uncertain, bold, courageous, fearful, confident. Remembering what He has said, certain of what I am to do. Uncertain if I will fail or succeed.
Thank you for the encouragement and the doctrine you shared. I really needed these reminders this morning.
He is the goal. Not my success or whether or not I make a fool of myself. He simply calls me to obedience with the understanding that He is the reward....
Keep doing what you do.
As Annette said, I too desperately needed encouragement today as well. I have some pretty heavy stuff going on with a friend who needs all of your prayers!!! God will know who you are praying for without giving out her name. Also, I visited audreycaroline.blogspot this morning and it's such an incredible story! But, sad too. We need to focus our eyes on Jesus - live through the good and the bad knowing HE is right beside us, loving us.
The perfect way to start a day! Thank you!
Love,
Steph
what a great word to one who is also fighting computer trouble today!! I may through my laptop from the second floor window and spend the day praising Jesus for Who He is! I am off to re-read Romans 6!!
Blessings to Melissa for this timely and beautiful word!
Dear Melissa
I am not glad you had all those problems but it is so refreshing to hear that someone else has those days now and then! Music speaks to my heart like nothing else when I am weary and that song was so so beautiful. I had never heard of it.
My song of songs(i have many) is "In Christ Alone!" He is my hope, my strength, my song and my solid ground, praise Jesus!
THanks for sharing. You certainly inherited your mom's writing ability!
love you and can't wait to meet you in San Antonio!

That EXACT cd is in my car now and that EXACT song is my all time fave. I can scarce drive when it comes on for the hand-raising and weepinng going on. Every single time. I never get over it.
(Obviously the roads are not so safe when I'm having a spell.)
Excellent thoughts to begin this rainy day!
Dear Melissa, thanks for being transparent on a hard day! I am a pastor's wife and am oh so tired. I appreciate the reminder of "refocusers" and "attitude changers" that will bring me back to the foot of the cross. It's so easy to get caught in the quagmire of day to day needs. I'm off to study Romans 6 and Habakkuk 3, and I'm renewed to win the war for replacing Hannah Montana in my car's cd player with some whole grain music!! In Christ and for His glory, Jen
Thank you for such encouragement and Truth! I love that hymn but I have to confess I have never pulled it apart like you did. It makes me want to dig into it even deeper! I have to go, I want to re-read your post and read Romans 5!! What a blessed redeemer we have! Thanks again for your words...and thank you for your passion for Christ. Oh He's just too wonderful.
Lisa
Stop looking in my windows before 9am. lol.
I needed that and I'm off to download the song while I deal with the unpleasantries that woke with me.
Fixing my eyes BACK on Jesus.
Melissa -
Thank you for your post. This song is one I love to sing, preferably by myself since I am not much of a singer and I can really emphasize the "Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me" part. How can anyone not get EXCITED and accept His wonderful gift to us! Believe siestas, He is alive, real and wanting to be your Savior, your all in all.
Love and Blessings to you all,
Debbie in Tennessee
Love it! What a great reminder. I am going to have to download that song on my ipod!
Prise His name! Thank you for the uplifting words. I needed to hear that. Selah is wonderful and their music is to inspirational. God bless and sustain us in our times of need!
Melissa, I found the song on my Shane and Shane "Pages" cd! I had to play it for my man and I. Another song popped into my head this morning as I was getting up, "Trading My Sorrows" of an i Worship cd I got years ago. "I'm trading my sorrows...:)...I'm laying them down, for the joy of the Lord...:)...yes, yes, Lord, Amen!" I'm going to go listen to that now.
Also, Beth, one of my mentors thought it would be good for me to do "Living Beyond Yourself" so we had our first session yesterday, and I had to finish it up this morning here at the house. I'm really not trying to "Beth Moore" myself out! I do read other authors, I promise!:) But, learning that sign language was the best! I love the sign language for joy and self-control.:) You and your hair-you are precious!
Love ya'll,

Phil. 4:13
With tears in my eyes, how AWESOME is He!!
Amen and Amen siesta
Thank you so much Melissa for your insightful and encouraging words! Isn’t God so generous to show Himself through any circumstances we may be encountering? One of my favorite verses in Romans is 6:14‘For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.’ Praise Him that we are not under the law and can be lavished in His grace! May you be blessed today with a fresh revelation from the Almighty!

Melissa,
I had never heard that song. So I opened i-tunes and bought the song and listened to it while I read the words on your post. No wonder you love it so much!! It is so full. Plenty to think about. Thank you for introducing it to us.
Hope today is a better computer and printer day for you.
Wow, girl, you're deep! Loved that post! I have to confess, I'm not sure I've ever heard that hymn (and I would've sworn when I was 13 that I'd heard them all at least a thousand times) so I Googled it. I just love the internet! I was able to Google that exact version and listen to it. It's a beautiful hymn. Powerful words! I just love to hear old hymns, especially when they're redone.
About your struggles adjusting to the move and change in work environment...We're a military family and move a lot. One thing I've learned is that even though we may not like it, God has placed us where we're at "for such a time as this." Soak up all God has for you! He is good ALL the time.
Great post Melissa! I love that song as well and the Selah version is amazing. I also love the Shane and Shane version on their newest album. I'm very sad about your computer drama and even more sad that this is your 3rd one after having 2 stolen??!!?? How did that happen? Thanks for sharing! We all hope you are enjoying newlywed life!!
Hello! Melissa, please post the recipes for your fabulous queso and quacamole! I can't wait to try them!
Thank You for sharing! Thanks for being so transparent! I am single...and have my dreams sitting on God's shelf...i was encouraged by your mom mentioning about your Broken road...i can identify...and now a new road, w/ the same self...that HE loves and Redeems...With His Righteousness! thank You!
Thanks melissa! My printer has been down for 3 weeks and I have been out of sorts with the darn thing. I have tried numerous times to make it work myself to no avail! Thanks for reminding me that Christ the high priest will stand me back on my feet! Especially when I've been on the floor staring at plug-ins, trying to figure things out!
Wow! You are definitely your mother's daughter! That was a great reminder. Thank you!
Sacred perspective on a day when I don't feel like that there is much of Him living in me. I will take some time and behold Him this day.
peace~elaine
May the Lord bless you as you persevere for HIM!
Blessings in Christ--
Melissa,
I have been on "blogger sabbatical" due to end of year overload in nursing school...HOWEVER...
I had a moment to check the blog today and I'm am so grateful I did.
Melissa, you are such a gifted teacher and I am not just complimenting you. I wish somehow you could do indepth study with women who want both - Bible Study for the closeness that it brings us to HIM and HIS word and love for both. But the Bible studies that are expository and take apart verses and get really meaty with it.
Have some of your Mom's Sunday School CD's like Ephesians, Romans, and 1 Peter.
I love that so much now and I can't believe that I do!
You would be so awesome with your tremendous love of HIM and your knowledge.
Please share when you can. There are people out there, but I just feel like I can trust someone completely that is not hyper anything and not totally sensationalist or totally cessasionist. It's so hard to find someone to teach doctrine that is right there in that spot!
If you guys feel it's better not to post this because I mentioned something that might offend someone of whatever faith...just delete.
Thanks so much
Love and prayers for you and Colin,
Teri
Wow I love the God is so awesome, and he has a perfect plan, and he always, sets us right when we need it, he uses what ever means that are avaible, as long as we are open to his word... Thank you
Connie

WOW! What a message! It appears as though there is more than just one preacher in your family.
Thank you for this awesome word. This is one post that I will print and keep.
Thanks for the blog. I am in the midst of a computer with a spider spyware virus that is about to drive me crazy. I'm just amazed always at how God gives us exactly what we need when we need it. Hope things get better. Thanks.
I feel the same way about that Hymn - it is very special to me. Check out Shane & Shane's version - it will give you goosebumps!
Thank you soo much for sharing....i tend let a few mishaps affect my day and attitude so your post was such an encouragement....on a side note...I know you miss TX but I know you will love living in ATL...
Praying for you!

Hi Melissa - and greetings from a fellow Atlantan! I'm not sure what part of the city you're in, but if you love to do a little shopping, I have an art gallery and custom frame shop, Avery Art, on Miami Circle in Buckhead. The street is FULL of great little shops. The Diet Coke's always cold here!
Thank you for that Melissa :)
It's funny how God knows what you need when you need it! Today my devotional was on taking our eyes off our problems and focusing them back on HIM, and then I read your post. I praise Him for feeding my spirit through you today and for encouraging me! And I'm going to hunt me down that song so I can download it! Funny thing...also this morning, I got out one of Travis' CDs from a LP event and played Shackles..haven't heard that in a while and needed to hear it again!
Thanks :)
i was JUST introduced to the LPM blog and this was the first thing i read. kudos to my friend katie for the heads up.
*my perfect spotless righteousness* there is the great exchange- my sin for His righteousness. that is enough for me to sing Hallelujah for eternity!
Thank you Melissa for sharing a WORD!!
I can wait to hear that song.
Resurrection power! Glory to His Name!
girl music has healed my attitude more than a time or two! :)
haven't read through all the comments to see if anyone else already said this, but have you listened to the Shane & Shane version of this song? it's amazing and adds a swelling hallelujah chorus (not like the one you sing at easter haha)...it's amazing! (so is "embracing accusation" from that same CD if you haven't heard it! i cry every time!)
Hi Melissa!
I have been blessed by that song too lately-Selah is my favorite also. I know every word-talk about doctrine! Chris Rice also has a great version-but I can't sing with it because there's too many harmonies-it's greatly soothing and beautiful to listen to though! Thanks for sharing-Love, Angela
Amen Sister! The part of the song that gets me is "To look on Him and pardon me." And of course, it's repeated twice for emphasis! Praise His Name! Shane & Shane do an awesome version too. Hang in there Siesta- you are dearly loved! Kim in PA
Thanks Melissa, I am going to copy these words. We all need to hear encouragement in this crazy world.
Glad you have a new computer.Mabye it likes to sleep in. Ha Ha!!

Welcome to Atlanta!
Glory!!!
Melissa, I can empathize...my sis posted yesterday about my recent move to TX from TN. It's an adjustment, but there is comfort and confidence in knowing the Lord's design for this season of our lives. You wrote out my feelings exactly...I thought there were so few who were experiencing that level of separation from family. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of our Lord!! Praying for you.
Love the version from Steve & Vicki Cook. You might enjoy it too.
Melissa, As worship leader I just introduced this song to my church this week! I first heard it sang by Rescue and then by Selah. Both groups do a wonderful job on it. The words that say "my name is graven on his hands, my name is written on his heart" touch my soul so much! Thank you for bringing it to our attention!
Melissa, you have no idea how God has used your comments to bring deeper freedom, especially in Romans 6. I'm still shaking my head in amazement! Thanks for being such a deep godly young woman! I finish a 30 year teaching career tomorrow and the very next day I get to hear your mom in Boise. I think God had a very sweet retirement present for me in the timing of her coming here. Thanks for all you and your family are doing to bring even more freedom to former captives!!
Melissa thank you I needed this having a really hard time with my fourteen year old son being so rebellious at the moment. I'm the only one saved in my house besides my four kids and I feel alone like Hello Lord remember ME!
Glad your computer is working, My husband still owes me one for the fall when I got back for Nursing pre-reqs.
God Bless,
Love,
Sue-La
DEAREST MELISSA,
THIS MAY BE TOO LATE TO POST, OK BY ME, I JUST WANT YOU TO SEE THIS, IF YOU CAN CONQUER YOURSELF ALONE AT HOME YOU CAN DO ANYTHING. MAY THE LORD POUR GRACE ALL OVER YOU (THAT IS ALSO ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONG NEVER HEAR IT WITHOUT TEARS AND REPENTANCE) SHALOM
What beautiful and powerful words, Melissa! I just love the words to that song! I'm sorry you had trouble with your computer but if that is what it took for this post to come to be, then Praise God because I needed it!!
Blessings and love to all of you!
OH...my heart
Melissa,
I almost woke up my napping two year old a hearty shout of "Amen" and "Halleujah"!!!! I have the words of "Before the Throne of God" written on the inside cover of my Bible, and our church sings it often as part of our worship. You are right, it is a "meaty" song!
Also, I have been reading in my quiet time and thinking about the Corinthians passage you mentioned, "being changed from glory to glory"! OOps, there I go again, about to wake the baby up!
Melissa, I've been listening to Selah hymns and songs on my iPod since reading your post and have been humbled and blessed.
There's a line of another song sung by Selah that gets me every time and I just had to share:
The song "All My Praise" talks about praising God through the good and the difficult; through dark disaster and through the shadow of death. But then in great crescendo they sing,
"All this is just part of Your GLORIOUS design! HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH!" (Praise to I AM!!)
I just can't listen to that without giving God glory and praise for all the frustrations and difficulties of my day - because they are part of His glorious design. I just love how He foils Satan's attempts at despair and moves everything into glorious perspective. - Linda
I don't know if you read all of these there are a lot of comments!! But there is an amazing Church near Atlanta that you should check out www.northpoint.org you may have a church you love but I think it would be amazing to connect to really amazing things in my life. Northpoint with Living Proof!! Thanks for the encouraging word! what a blessing you Melissa are. I feel like I know you just from your mom's stories and I know I may never meet you here on earth but I am excited to meet you in heaven some day!!
Melissa, this is also one of my very favorite songs. a few weeks ago I sang it to one of my deer friends, Melena, she was crying the whole time I was singing. I'm going to sing it tomorrow to another dear friend. I can't stop singing about His great salvation and love for us. To top all this I'm not a singer, but it is all about being free in Him. Alleluia! And I've got to add I'm from France so you can imagine the cute accent that goes along.
Melissa, Thank you so much. We have been going through a computer conversion these last few weeks and I find my nerves on edge so often I wonder why they haven't changed to locks on the doors to keep by grumpy self out! I am going to put this song (I do love this song! When we sing it in choir at church I always fight the tears)on my computer so I can do what you did this morning. I may turn it up really loud, open my office door and let everyone else chill with it also! God just used you to answer the prayer I cry out to him every day on my way to work(Lord don't let me loose it today!)
I have no doubt this will be a great help! He has placed a sweet little female cardnal in the court yard outside my window and everytime I think I am going to yell and hurt someones feelings that little bird will show up out there doing something so funny. she must be building a nest. I just stop and watch her until I calm down. I think I like her because she is overwight like me. :) Maybe you have hit on something here....what calms us down when we are STRESSED????
Melissa, I'm so sorry you're having computer issues. We had a laptop stolen from our house last week too- we also live in Atlanta. It's just awful to lose work. It is hard to make the transition to working from home- I just started last July and it's really different from working in an office. You should set up a video chat with your co-workers back at Living Proof headquarters.
Melissa-
I read your post earlier this week. Every month, I take turn about with 4 other people putting together all of the worship for our church (2 services, around 400 people on a normal Sunday morning). This was my week to "lead", and by lead I mean pray hard, seek God's face, choose songs, gather a team of musicians, and then on Sunday morning lead our body in worship with the assistance of the team. It is normally a grueling week, and this was no different. After reading your post, I decided to include "Before the Throne of God Above" as our call to worship. It was gorgeous with strong voices from us and the crowd, guitar, and the rest of the band. When our pastor got up to speak, he spoke about the encouragement we get from Heb 11 and 12:1-2.
v1. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. v2. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
All of the songs I "chose" were orchesrated by God to go along with what our pastor shared just as well as that one. Amazing! So, your blog entry was used in a mighty way in my life to remind me that God is ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS.
Thanks!
Melissa, this is powerful, inspiring stuff, which i *sorely* needed to read **TODAY**!!!! thank you.
in gratitude,
maria cristina
Thank you so much for this entry, Melissa. We just heard this song on Sunday during the service (a new one for me) and I felt tears sting my eyes as I absorbed the words on the screen. Then, to read your blog the next day...wow. God did that. Thank you, Father. Thank you, Jesus. How good you are to us, to me.
Hi Melissa -
I want to thank you for your honesty and encouragement. I always wish I had friends like you and your sister. Its hard for me to find people here in OC, CA that I have a lot in common with or are my age. I was wondering how did you and your sister deal with making friends that were both fun and honorable.
Thank You and God Bless,
Molly
I wish I could get this: what you said, "The Great Unchangeable I AM! THE KING OF GLORY AND OF GRACE!"
Don't understand this at all. Just a mechanical broken person and don't even know how broken I am
"When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin"
This is the very reason I am still out of depression today. Because of my Lord Jesus, my precious Jesus, I am able to live free of condemnation and find my mind's peace, my soul's consolation, and my heart's joy in Him. "Thank you, Jesus," doesn't seem enough, but it's all I have.
