Sweet Tarts
Siestas! Mom has me worked silly today, so if my writing is that of a four-year-old, please do forgive me. As of today, to the praise of His glory, I will begin my very last chapter of research for the upcoming Esther bible study. I can’t wait to see what the final chapter has in store for me over the next few weeks.
Well, on a darker note, bless your hearts for having to read the previous post about spilled animal entrails. I didn’t even know what “entrails” meant, but after consulting dictionary.com, I was, like you, completely and utterly grossed out. To redeem our blog, I thought it would be timely to post something blissful, yes, something heavenly, and yes, so visually stimulating that you may never think of animal entrails ever again.
Well, in light of the wonderful summer weather, I have been making it my duty to learn everything I can about fresh fruit tarts. Yes, my compulsion for research goes beyond biblical studies to simple, everyday tasks. I am sort of like my mom, I can find joy in reading the label on a ketchup bottle. I have always been in awe of the fresh fruit tarts at places like La Madeleine and Whole Foods, not to mention Paris herself. Has it ever bothered you that the French totally monopolize all the amazing looking desserts? Well, I will stop the banter and take you on a little photo journey of my culinary dealings as of late. The picture below records the very place where my cooking obsession was born.
The Fitzpatricks' humble kitchen/dining room.
This was my very first tart - fresh chunky apples glazed on a puff pastry. Served with whipped cream, this thing was wonderful. My husband sort of stared at it like Smeagol stared at “the precious” in Lord of the Rings.
This was my second tart- a fresh mixed fruit tart on a homemade shortbread crust with vanilla bean pastry cream.
It was so fun to actually buy a real vanilla pod and scrape all the vanilla pulp out of it- I finally learned why vanilla bean ice cream has those little black specks in it! Oh the joys of learning! I have to say, this was not the easiest thing I have ever done but if you are looking for something fun and challenging to do on a quiet Saturday morning, then this fruit tart is a blast. I coincidentally took the fruit tart with me to dinner at one of Colin’s co-worker’s homes that evening…almost like I just happened to have a homemade fruit tart lying around my kitchen. Oh come on, please cut me some slack because after the two hours (standing I might add) it took to prepare it and the additional hour it took to clean the flour from the ceiling, I so needed the affirmation!
If any of you Siestas are interested in these recipes, then send me a shout out and if there is enough demand, I will try to get my head out of the book of Esther and post them up!

Your sweet tarts look delicious and I don't even like tarts.
Blessings to you.
They look delish!! I am so comforted and love you more b/c I too needed to consult dictionary.com. You're a true sister in Christ, YES RECIPES please :) Love in Jesus, Kim in PA
Ya'll are amazing. Where else can I find, on one page, information about summer Bible study, research on both the Book of Esther and a ketchup bottle, fruit tarts and animal entrails? Can we all say "random"?
Please do post the fruit tart recipe. In original and easy versions, preferably. Thanks.
That mixed fruit tart looks yummy. I would love the recipe. Hopefully others will too.
I would be interested in the apple glaze with puff pastry. It looks awesome! Great job! But Im sorry, Im still thinking of those entrails and the hot weather in Texas. Gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would love to have the recipes. Have made one similar to the fresh fruit one but your's looks tastier. I love to see a new bride who loves to cook. My husband had been married before and was used to eating lean cuisines. He was underweight so I had to fatten him up and absolutely loved learning to cook for him like my mother did all those years for me. But I didn't start until after I married. Have a blast in the kitchen!
I'll be interested to hear if very many Siestas are willing to take on those recipes. I don't think that I'm one of them - so if I was the only person responding to you I'd say - Stick with Esther!!
Now if either of those recipes had chocolate in them, that would be a different story. But it is fun to hear of your dedicated work.
And I love your kitchen! What a fun place to cook/bake. You must love it.
Melissa, bless your sweet heart! They look absolutely gorgeous and delicious! You're awesome! And all that while you're researching for Esther. WOW! You go, girl!
Blessings
Michelle
Yippee!!! Pictures!!!
Thank you for the pictures! And, ummm, while I would love the recipes, I bet it's anything I would ever make. The cleaning the flour off the ceiling sort of killed it for me ;).
Congratulations Mrs. Fitzpatrick on such beautiful craftsmanship!
Post away! They both look and sound delish! And they have fruit, so they're healthy, right?
Yes, the recipes please! Jeanette
MULTITALENTED!!!!! God is so amazing at how He hands out talent!! Bible Studies, humor, cooking, great hair all in that wonderful siesta known as AMANDA!!!
Praise God for you and please pass the recipes.

Ok--I so want the recipes and while you are passing out recipes--WILL YOU PLEASE GIVE US THE HOMEMADE QUESO RECIPE! (If I knew how to highlight and underline on the blog, I would have done it here!)!
My precious five year accepted Jesus as his Savior and on June 8 will be baptized. We are having a diner the night before in honor of it and would LOVE to add the queso to the "Mexicali Baptismal Fiesta" as my sister has so lovingly named it!
Thanks and I appreciate ahead of time all of the time taken to share the recipes as well as the time to study and work on a Bible study that I am sure will bless us all!
Love and prayers to you all!
I would love to have the recipe for the fruit tart. I was at the great market called Papa Joe's and commented that I needed to learn to make them. So please post it.
I am sooo impressed, Melissa!!! I have never even heard of a vanilla pod!! Those are beautiful tarts!!! And you are a beautiful sister! Thanks for sharing your wonderful creations with us!
@Melissa--those look delicious!! I just love fresh fruit during the summer. Please, post the recipes soon.
I've made a tart from a receipe from Paula Dean that was so yummy and I found that using a roll of sugar cookie dough works really good for the crust, might save you some time cleaning up the flour.
just food for thought
Heather
the one field Miss Esther didn't have to compete in......cooking!!!! Must not have been the way to a man's heart back then!!!!! (that was left for the red headed boys of older years!) Keep posting!
Oh that fruit tart looks so good! Please post the recipe, my two year old and I like Saturday morning/Sunday afternoon challenges!

What I absolutely love about being a mom to 4 children aged 20 to 26 is that they are who they are even though they were raised by the same two parents. Praise the Lord...he created them UNIQUELY. I can tell that you are discovering your own way in life and as a mom, I know your mom is loving the chance to watch you do just that. Keep experimenting...It has served me well.
The apple one looks scrumdiddlyumptious!!
Those look delicious. Do post the recipes. I love fresh fruit.
Absolutely, pass it on please.
And, by the way, the baked sweet poatoe's w/rosemary, DELICIOUS!
Lovingy,
Yolanda
The mixed fruit tart is beautiful! Please share the recipe!
I love your kitchen!!!
And I would love a bite of that tart. Ummm... Ummmm. Goooood!!!
Recipes are always a good thing (as Martha would say). Your kitchen creations look absolutely wonderful. I am impressed!
Thanks for sharing
Blessings!
Kelli in Colorado
oh my goodness, I sure wish you could send my way...those looks scrumptious.
blessings my dear
I feel like your husband, I stared at them like "my precious" as well. Those are too pretty to eat.
They look wonderful! I might be able to manage the apple pastry but the other one sounds like more work and mess than I'm up for! I bet Colin is loving all this kitchen research you're doing!
Oh my goodness, my husband would devour that 2nd dessert...the circle fruity one. In your spare time you should just take some orders & ship them out fresh out of ATL!! I'll take the recipes for both when you have a minute. I just hope mine turns out as pretty. Aunt Rhody is right in her comment...you all are like the "google" of blessings where you can find everything you need...the FATHER, FOOD & FELLOWSHIP!:) lol...
Blessings,
Lelia
"It was so fun to actually buy a real vanilla pod and scrape all the vanilla pulp out of it."
Who in the WORLD would buy a real vanilla pod and scape all the vanilla pulp out of it THEN say it was fun??? WHO IS THIS CHILD? She has joined a cooking cult. That's all there is to it. I'm going to be shipping her little fruit tart home and have her deprogrammed...right after she fixes me that apple thing with the fresh whipped cream.
PS. I'm sticking with entrails.
I am a huge tart fan. I love to bake but have never had the courage to try something so delicate. I would love those recipes. Don't you just love making FOOD...I DO!
Far be it for me to ask you to look up from Esther long enough to post the recipes...but I would LOVE them! If it would push back Esther's release date, then please do wait on recipe postings!! Otherwise, I am waiting with blank recipe cards on hand!!
PS. love the kitchen!! sure beats my first 'married' kitchen! haha!
Ok. You are KILLING me!!!
Melissa, your desserts look amazing, and I'm sure tasted that way as well! I decided to start the summer off by learning to grill, although baking is sounding pretty good:) I spent the morning researching some yummy grilling recipes, so if you have any good ones, feel free to pass them along.
Well done, Melissa! They look fabulous! Cleaning flour off the ceiling is my kind of recipe...please post it.
Melissa,
Those look beautiful and delicious and please share your recipes. Because of your post on looking for new recipes, I have been getting those recipes and making them and enjoying every minute of it!!
I would have been proud to take that tart to my husband's co-workers home, if I had a husband that is. heehee
Working that hard on a beautiful tart needs to be shared.
Might I add that you look so cute standing in your kitchen and why do I see in the future a cookbook by Melissa Fitzpatrick?!! :o)
Love,
Patty
Amen, Beth, Amen.
Our mothers didn't know it when they named us, but we Beths have to hang together on this one.
And keep our favorite restaurants in business.
I am with your mom on the vanilla pod, but I would love the recipe for the apple thing it looks too good
Oh Ladies!
How I love this blog!!!! The apple one looks about my speed so I'm up for that recipe! But I have to go with your mom on the scraping of the vanilla pod!!! But then again I have twin 5 year old boys and I know I would be scraping flour off more than the ceiling if it took 2 hours to make something like that in my house! Ha! Cookies and cupcakes are our favorites right now!!!!
Much love and blessings!
Donna
oh.my.gosh. YES!! post those recipes!! LOVE the kitchen. I confess I read the bottles too (my secret is that they're usually the shampoo bottles...) Anyhoo, can't wait for Esther. God be with you as you study!
Your kitchen is sure cuter than our first one...it had cabinets painted BLACK and it was so small you couldn't get far enough away to take a picture!
So glad you're enjoying it so much. Maybe God knew I wasn't going to cook a whole lot no matter WHAT the cabinets looked like ; )
Two words: Recipes, please
Hi 'Lis,
I am a like minded woman with my heart in the kitchen.
I also am in the midst of a beautiful summer planting of sunflowers and veggies. Lots of color.
Okay, lets just talk about your fruit tarts. I want that recipe.PLEASE.
I have made the Sopapilla chessecake & with many variations. With pecans/Walnuts , with 1/2 brown sugar& 1/2 white granulated. I added Vanilla and or Almond exract. I have also...ta-da---made it with Philo dough...oh please go to the "Fresh Market" nearest you and check out the Philo Dough. Yumm-O!
So... I am now wanting to move to something else my guys would love as much as Sopapilla cheesecake. That apple tart. I think my fam. would love it this weekend.
Can't wait to hear from you with this new recipe.
Have you checked out
"cookthink.com" you will love it !
it is so YOU!
look at the fish tacos w/ avacados...yummmm
Love you!
Gigetgirl
...looking forward to Ester!
MMMM ~~ would love the recipe ~~ do tell!!
YUMMY ~~ And the pics are darling.
Dawn
Hi Melissa!
I don't know about the recipe, but I'd like to sit in your third chair-the guest chair I would imagine-and eat a big piece with a giant cup of coffee. I'm generous with affirmation. Love your cooking/baking spree. My husband fixes bakery equipment(its a gift!) and he frequents a nearby Whole Foods. The baker is always feeding him because he's so skinny. He made this wonderful cake that was some sort of cross between lemon meringue pie and cake-wow If you're going to eat sweets-eat the good stuff!! Thaks for your enthusiasm-its inspiring. Love, Angela H
S.H.O.U.T - O.U.T!!!!
I am hungry now!!! I have lost seven pounds in the last week, but fir that yuminess I would gladly give up every other meal of the day!!!!
Yummy! I am so impressed! They look DELICIOUS!
When I first got married I worked so hard on my first casserole... the recipe called for me to cover and bake... well I covered it with Saran Wrap... needless to say when I pulled it out of oven I about cried it had melted saran wrap all over it... my husband just kissed me and laughed with that what were you thinking look!?! I said well you can put it in the microwave... why can't you put it in the oven!
Hopefully I am better now (20 yrs later) but I have to say THANK GOODNESS for Whole Foods! It is worth the drive! : )
Your desserts look amazing. I would love the recipes. I am so hungry right now. LOL! I loved the picture of you, btw. Very pretty!!Have a great day!!
PLEASE share you recipes for both tarts and any other recipes. I too had to look up entrails on dictionary.com.
I love reading your blogs. Thanks for being real!
Melissa,
I'm sure your mom is just giving you a hard time because she had to visit dictionary.com to look up "vanilla pod"! I'm thinking sun-dried tomatoes now...
Seriously though, your desserts look beautiful! I'd love the recipes.
They both look yummy! I love that they look pretty as well. You are really turning into a very good cook I believe.
When I was newly married I loved to cook but almost set our broiler on fire one night when I attempted to broil pork chops... it was quite the disaster!
I would love the recipe for the apple tart.
A confession...
I've just barely made it past Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I'm afraid my children would be suspicious should I pull out such an extraordinary treat! But as for me, I would love a taste.
I shared with you all recently that my daughter asked Jesus into her heart on Good Friday. Well, this past Saturday my son did the same. My heart is filled with such joy to have experienced this sacred moment with each of my 4 children over the course of 19 years.
For all of treats I could make for them in the kitchen, giving them and savoring with them the treat of Jesus Christ is by far the best.
Love you all so much! Your lives have changed mine.
peace for the journey~elaine
Bring on the tarts! They look delicious! Great job!
Yes, oh yes, please share the recipe. (btw - your kitchen looks absolutely adorable....why was I not surprised?!?!?!)
Love to the entire Moore clan,
Yvonne
Would someone out there pray for me. A lot of my land marks are gone. My Mom sold her house from which I lived in grew up. This week she will be moved. Having stuff over there I had to get out was painful. That is where God first spoke to me in my bedroom. That is hard to take being so very sentimental. Last year were other significant changes. Now a friend who has closed the door on the communication. Confusion, hurt, sadness, bitterness. Sorry for this not light hearted email with your lovely recipe, Melissa so that we could get our minds off of the visual. Maybe someone will think of me and say a prayer. EA
I'd like the recipes, please! I'm so happy you're happy! I love your kitchen! So pretty! I'm so excited about Esther! I've been reading it on my own just to prepare for when we get to enjoy the fruit of your labor. Thanks for all of that by the way! Your big siesta, Dana
Melissa....I love the Apple Tart!!! YummmY!!!

YES post those recipes! Great job! Looks like you are loving married life! :)
blessings,
steph.
Wow, you are so talented. Looks amazing!
I love dictionary.com! I didn't look it up earlier on there, but I thought about it. Then I decided I didn't want to know exactly what entrails are. When you mentioned it, though, I had to look it up! And ew... but the definition is the slightest bit better than what my imagination gave me.
I have to say I am very impressed! My first desserts 11 years ago were nothing of this caliber! Okay...am I brave enough to attempt?? My husband would sure love the fresh mixed fruit tart-maybe for Father's Day!! I could MAYBE do something like this once a year. Yes...please post the recipes! I am feeling bold!
Thanks for saving us from dwelling on the entrails! Yes! Please share those delicioso recipes!! Keep up the good cookin'! And bless you as you study Esther!
Your flour comment reminded me of the first time I "creamed" sugar and flour together. Only, I had no idea what that meant, and I certainly didn't know that the butter needed to warm up and get soft before you went and creamed it. Add to that the fact that I used a vastly undersized bowl, and I ended up with sugary buttery clumps all over my kitchen.
We've moves since then. But I bet if you looked real hard, you could still find a crystallized glob of butter somewhere in that kitchen.
Bravo on the fruit tart!
Vanilla Bean Pastry Cream?!?!?! Heck yes I want that recipe!!!
Yum! They look delicious...PLEASE post the recipe!
And don't you just love dictionary.com. I use it all the time!
jaye in MN
Oh I would LOVE both recipies. They look delicious. And by the way--your mama is a hoot!
I would love the recipe for the fresh fruit tart, it looks just like the tiny one at La Madeline! It's my daughter's favorite dessert. Thanks!
Ummmm.....im hungry now! Thanks melissa! They look amazing!
I'm always in need of a new recipe. However, don't know if I would have the stamina for the mixed fruit tart. But would love the apple tart.
Post, post, post!
There is nothing like a good dessert! :)
Those look fabulous! I am pretty sure that the fruit tart is beyond anything I would attempt but that apple one looks like a dessert I would impress the family with! So please do share your recipes with us.
Also, I love your kitchen! So pretty.
Cara
Post them, already, Melissa!!!
Warm (and hungry for a good tart) in Alaska.
You are adorable!! I am AMAZED at the recipes you are attempting (and MASTERING!!) after cooking for such a short time! WOW...I've been in the kitchen for 27 years of marriage and there is nothing else that intimidates me like a difficult recipe!! If I had read the part of the recipe that called for you to 'scrape the pulp' out of a 'vanilla pod'?? wow...I think that recipe book would have gone into the donation pile! If recipes are going to require such foolishness they at least ought to include the free video session on how to do it and exactly where to look for it in the store!! ACTUALLY, I was so proud of myself because I tried that Sweet Potato recipe that you mentioned in one of your other posts! The one thing that almost got me was the 'fresh rosemary'....I had no idea how I was suppose to cut it up! So...I 'googled' it...AND I FOUND A VIDEO of a lady cutting fresh rosemary!!! I was amazed!
I think I would like to try that apple recipe if you would be so sweet as to post it. Think I'll hold off on the scraping bean pods...keep up the cooking and keeping us posted on your new adventures!
Please...do spill the vanilla beans!
Love your beautiful smile and home!
holly
PS Thank you for the tireless work you are doing--it's gonna impact some lives for Him! uh-huh!
You are absolutely precious and might I add a cook after my own heart. Although, unless I am making something particularly eye catching, I simply make all my food from memory to sight, taste, texture and delicious smell!
I once made this delicious Santa Fe Chicken with mango salsa and a fresh fruit cold Gaspa... Oh for heaven's sake... it's an Italian Soup that my hours of study the Name of God, "Esh Oklah," has left me totally flabbergasted that I cannot even spell it!
Please do put us together the recipes if you will! They sound deeee- lish!
Blessings.
My mouth is watering. I would love the recipes. I have always admired fruit tarts but have not dared myself. Maybe it is about time I tried, as long as flour on the ceiling is not actually part of the recipe!
Should I be ashamed that I knew what animal entrails are?
I am very impressed with your cooking /baking skills... What is a vanilla pod? :) Also, your glass see through cabinets are beautiful...
Blessings, and I will lift up a prayer for you while you finish up the Esther study research.
You are too cute! I love how marriage has flipped on a culinary light switch in your brain. Being a young mom and spending a lot of time in the kitchen myself, I'm loving this!
You show us the picture and ask do we want the recipe? Well...YES!!!
Those tarts look amazing. Way to go! And a kitchen with all new stuff makes me want to cook, too. I get way too excited about good knives or my newest small appliance. I get it honest--my dad gets a kick out of gadgets from Home Depot; I get a kick out of gadgets from Williams-Sonoma.
Your kitchen is adorable!! How could you not cook in there?!
The tarts look amazing...Martha Stewart who! :)
(I also love the outfit...too cute!)
I just want to know...what kind of mascara does one use to get their eyelashes that BEAUTIFUL!!!??? Please do tell...I so need some new eyelashes!!!
Beth in Atlanta Ga
Melissa,
ok that is just wrong - here I am reading this at almost 9pm and my mouth is watering like no tomorrow!!
YUMMY!!
You are rocking the wife thing
And yes I would love the recipes however I am not sure when I will find 3 hours to make the fruit tart thing but girl bring it on!!
Blessings,
Kim
Girl~ you crack me up. The wit does not fall far from the tree! But (and this does not stem from any jealousy in me ;)), I could have gagged myself with a spoon when you talked about scrapping vanilla from a real vanilla pod...give me a break! Who does that??? ;) As you probably already can tell, you've cooked more in your brief married life than I've cooked in my entire life. LOL! Keep sending the recipes, though. You're really starting to inspire me...for real! :)
Oh, BTW, your kitchen is so cute..love it when y'all share pictures!
Blessings girlfriend!
Missy in SC
Wow, they look very yummy. I would love to have the recipes.
You kitchen looks great too.
Have a blessed rest of the week.
Kim B. in AZ
Lis, I KNEW you did research, but you even research your food??? Girl!!!
That tart looked SO delicious, I almost was tempted to taste the screen!
Please post recipes! :)
I would LOVE the recipes. I am so impressed! I learned to cook, also, after I got married (15 years ago June 5th :). You should have seen my long-distance phone bill to my mom every night at dinner time asking her how to cook all my favorites!!
I am not interested in the recipes...only because I am in the throes of end of the school year stuff for three kids. BUT, I just wanted to say, Mrs. Fitzpatrick, you are gorgeous! OH...and the fruit tarts, they are pretty too!
So impressed, Melissa. Please do share the recipe....my husband would appreciate it but my two little boys would look like Scooby and Shaggy digging in.
Have you ever made Fruit Pizza using sugar cookie for the crust? It is pretty easy and so yummy!
You are quite the well-rounded Siesta! High five to you, Jill
Between these tarts and your sister's Sopapilla Cheesecake, my no-sugar diet is being blown to smithereens. Which I am totally okay with. So, POST, girl, POST!
Tarts, yum! They looked yummy and I would love to know how to make them, so please post the recipes.:)
I like your cute little kitchen!
Yummy...and the tart looks great too! I'd love to get the recipe....nothin' wrong with the young'ens teaching us old ladies a thing or two.
The recipes definitely look amazing but I found myself being so distracted by your eyelashes that I can hardly remember what the tarts looked like. Are those puppies real - the eyelashes that is? I sure missed the boat when they were passing those suckers out. Lucky you...for many reasons. Thanks for sharing your pictures!!
Melissa...I would love to have the recipes...they both look wonderful!
Kathy in Colorado
Are you kidding?? Of course we want the recipes! I know that my mouth fell open with each look at the pictures! :)
Absolutely divine! Bring it on sister!!
Blessings~
Fran
Are you kiddin' me????? Of course we want the recipes. Bring them on sista!!!!
beth...you had to mention the entrails and the TX heat, didn't you? *ewwwwwww*
I meant to say I would NOT be making the tart, but that's not what I typed.
I can't wait for the Esther study! I don't even know what that book is about. (I've learned alot of biblical knowledge from this one teacher, who LOVES to give A LOT of homework, but I'm not mentioning any names. You might know her, Melissa & Amanada, as Mom.) (All kidding aside, I agape that godly woman who has helped me learn and learn and learn and love the Lord so much!)
Ok, sorry for hogging the comment box, but I just read Mrs. Moore's comment. HA HA HA HA HA "Who is this child???" HA HA HA HA HA
Amanda..yes, send the recipe on. It looks delish! I am so glad you are loving your kitchen and new found culinary gifts! Visit my blog for some more recipes if you like.
Alyce
Melissa - Congratulations on the tart, it looks perfect. Anytime I go away on a trip without my husband, I always take pictures of tarts for him, he LOVES them them. Please post your recipe. Also, Barefoot Contessa at foodnetwork.com has a lovely recipe for strawberry tarts that she made on her show not too long ago. The secret that I had not done before was to take 1/3 cup apricot jelly, heat, dilute with a teaspoon of water and brush over the fruit for a glaze that would make the sparkliest diamond ashamed. Waiting for Esther, but happy for talking about baking also. By the way, we were at the Dekalb Farmers Marketin Decatur on Saturday and they have whole vanilla beans, two in a jar for $4.99, whoohoo! If you have not been it is worth the trip. Unbelievable fruits and vegetables, fish, meat, breads, spices......
Love and Blessings, Debbie in Tennessee
Of course we want the recipes!!! And I want the salsa recipe too! :-)
It's official. I love the whole stinkin' family. I don't understand the whole fruit tart obsession (I prefer the pop tart myself) but I think the idea is aboslutely precious! Just don't look up any entrails recipes! Though I am sure they are cheap somewhere in Houston right about now!
Leigh ATL
you are so cute! I would love the recipes. those things are making me hungry esp the apple one and I just had a bone graft in my mouth so I am craving me some real food! Keep on in Esther girlfriend!!
For real?? Can you please take a pic sans makeup so that we can all really relate and feel motivated to make such a delectable delight.
I think I want to eat a vat of vanilla bean pod creme right now. Amazing...
Amanda those desserts look absolutely amazing! I think I gained 10 pounds just looking at them. I think it is wonderful that you are having so much fun cooking. Husbands love good food!!! Love the kitchen!! Please share recipes!!
Keep on cooking, Lori
"quiet" and "Saturday morning" is an oxymoron in my vocabulary! God bless your little newlywed heart! Now if you can give me a delish quick anything, I'm ready!!! And...YEAH ESTHER....I love her!
The Smeagol comment nearly slew me!
Yummy!
One of my newest "foodie" addictions is Hungry Girl (www.hungrygirl.com). Her new cookbook is awesome - and the Yum Yum Brownies are surprising "yum yum". Considering the recipe only has 2 ingredients (a box of Devil's food cake mix and a can of pumpkin...really, that's it) - it's pretty amazing!
Honestly, I don't even know what a vanilla pod is! I thought vanilla was in a little brown bottle! As you can see, I don't cook those sorts of things. I cook, but not like that! However; I do eat things like that! You know Melissa, you don't live far from me at all, I could be your official taste tester!!!
Maybe if you post the recipes, I would be inclined to try something new...maybe!
Bridgette
www.bridgetteholmesdiaries.blogspot.com
Oh my gosh are you cute as a button!! Yes recipes would be great! My mouth was watering just looking at them.
Please post! I'm in need of some new dessert ideas--although those tarts look pretty complicated (and delicious!)
Side note, my husband and I went out over the weekend and he made me try a FRIED Snickers! Ick!
OH MY-LANTA!!!! Would you please come make ME a fruit tart!!! Just beautiful to look at and I am guessing just as wonderful to eat!!!
I love to cook but those tarts have always intimidated me!!!
My husband loved your Lord of the Rings reference!!
And ABSOLUTELY on the recipes!!!
and CAN'T WAIT FOR ESTHER!! Woo Hoo!!
Melissa: Yes please post the recipes! They look absolutely scrumptious! I used to make a really yummy recipe from Pampered Chef that was called Taffy Apple Pizza that everyone raved about. Alas though, I no longer make it because it has peanut butter in it and I have a peanut allergic child now. If you haven't ever tried it and are interested, I could send you the recipe sometime.
Beth's previous post did not even faze me - living on a working farm/ranch for a while does that I guess. Grilling is fun - butchering is not.
Prayers and gratitude as y'all finish the Esther study. Can't wait for it to be published - I have always loved reading that book!
Melissa,
Consider yourself "shouted at"!!! Yes, I would appreciate the recipes. These pictures make these look very good and make me feel quite hungry just viewing!!
Couple of things I have to note...your kitchen is WAY TOO clean! Second, I see that your hair is much lighter. I like the darker color, but really like this lighter color also. :-) I know the camera flash didn't give you this light of hair!!
Continue to have fun and SHARE your fun with us...makes for very enjoyable reading!!!
Thanks for sharing!!
Janet
I so admire people who really cook - so much of what I do is thrown together stuff! And lately, my dear husband seems to be doing most of the cooking. We're about to be empty nesters and I'm thinking about cultivating a cooking habit - it just seems like a good southern woman's way of showing love and hospitality! Have fun in your pretty kitchen, but if the recipe involves scraping a vanilla pod, I doubt I'll make it!
Yes I would love the recipe. It looks grand, just would have to make mine a bit bigger.
Not sure if I could make it look as beautiful as yours!
Angie
You are absolutely darling, precious one! And, yes, you post those tart recipes!
Please don't take offense to my post Melissa but I laughed out loud reading how long it took to make the fruit tart. Not in the Leary house! With a high school teacher/coach for a husband, a 6 year old and a 2.5 year old, the closest thing we get to homemade fruit tarts are strawberry pop tarts - heated in the toaster oven. Not just out of the box!
LOL! Bless you! Has Lifeway considered launching a cooking show???
Wow, Melissa. These look great! Yes, please forward the recipes.
Anne in MO
Love your kitchen and desserts, Melissa!!!
Please post the recipes - I would love to try both of them out!!
I think when I was first married I impressed my hubby with Hamburger Helper! Way to go, girl! Recipes please!
For the love of all that is pure, post those recipes! Both tarts look INCREDIBLE!
Of course, this won't help me lose that baby weight. But it's fruit, right? Fruit is good for you. In fact, I bet you could have a slice for breakfast and call it good.
Beautiful tarts, beautiful kitchen, beautiful girl... it's all just purely depressing. If I even attempted that all tarty fruit thing... it would so not look have as pretty. Sigh! I'll just have to live vicariously through you and run to Publix's or Kroger for the fake, not baked by me kind. Besides!... oldest child started driving (ALONE) this weekend and the twin daughters turned 15 and now want their permits.... Heck... I'll just call the spa and see if I can bathe in a tarty, apple thing!
I just love ya'll!
I made your crazy good sopapilla cheesecake for my ladies prayer meeting/tea today and you would have thought I had invented the Toll House Cookie. Thanks!
It looks like quite a step up from unrolling a can of crescent rolls to whatever it was that caused flour to get on the ceiling, but I trust you. I do.
Melissa, what a kindred spirit you are to me. I love Bible study and I love cooking! I believe I've got more cookbooks than bible studies however. I'd love the recipes. I love fresh fruit and if it can be made into a dessert, why that's perfect. Doesn't that qualify for a fruit serving anyway? ;o)
Please do pass along the recipes! They look good!
I would love the recipe.....although I am waiting for Esther, too. It's too hard to choose.
The decisions......
Stephanie
I request. I request. I would love to surprise my husband with this fresh treat after a hard day in the office. Every once in a while a girl needs to pull a new trick out of her sleeve:)
Melissa,
I'm so envious of those who are posting the recipe requests. I would love to leave that comment, but then I would feel guilty when you posted it and I didn't print if off.
So, I would finally print it off and it would sit on my desk for a few weeks. Then I would feel guilty and move the recipe upstairs where it would join all my other recipes -- in a binder that is bulging with recipes. A binder that just makes me feel guilty that I'm not cooking all these wonderful recipes.
So, I won't ask and then I won't have to wallow in the guilt. I'm off to open a can of something....
WOW, that looks amazingly tasty!! Yes please post the recipe, I will try it for my fam and they will think Jesus must be on his way (since I'll be trying to make somthing like that!:)
Ahhh, newly wedded bliss....I remember those days....although I never made anything like that! Beautiful job, Melissa! But I sure would like to try my thirty-something hand at that fruit tart if you'll be so kind as to share the recipe. You gals are so much fun - entrails and all!
Love y'all,
Veronica
Your "humble" kitchen looks like a dream to me! Our newlywed kitchen is old and grimey, no matter how hard I scrub.
Will you also post your queso recipe that you made at your Moms. I LOVE queso and desperately need a good recipe other than the old Velveeta and rotel.
Also...this is a really random question but what kind of flowers do you have on your kitchen table and did you plant them in that pot. I have a pot just like that and didn't know what to put in it...it looks wonderful and I want to do the same. You can post back on my blog or email if you wish.
Thanks for all you guys do!!!

I second "aunt rhody" yes, I believe random is the word I would use also!
Please, please, please post the recipes!!! (again quoting "aunt rhody" easy as possible!
love you, and your kitchen is darling!

Those look so professional! Way to go, Melissa!
And as for the entrails. Ew. Thank you for redeeming the blog! ;)
Lindsee
Oh, and your kitchen is too cute!
I'm with that Beth lady up there. The second one. :)
Oh yes please post the recipes! Those look fantastic - though mind you I'm gonna find a way around the vanilla pod. Love it when all three of you post. So fun to hear about your newly wedded bliss - with cooking and making a home. Brings back wonderful memories. Have fun!
Those tarts are gorgeous. I'd love the recipe for both, honestly. But the mixed fruit tart looks so amazing I have to ask for that one first!
Fruit is one of those things thats got a mega bar on the food pyramid right? And anything in the vegetable/fruit category is supposed to keep us healthy and we need a gazillion servings a day and so I definitely think you MUST post those recipes or the surgeon general might be called in to post a warning on the blog: Caution this blog does not have enough fruit related recipes posted...and the stuff about the entrails...oooh ick, (do surgeon generals say ooh ick?)
Hungrily awaiting dessert...
Leslie
I'd love those recipes! The closest thing I've ever made to fruit tarts is fruit pizza. I'm a big fat cheater, though, because I use store bought sugar cookie dough for the crust!
I also love that shirt you are wearing! How fun and cute you look!
Have a great day, and my prayers go out to you for some good productive time with Esther! I can't wait to see that study when it's all done!
Love,
Kristen
Darlin' Siesta you are trying things I've never dreamed trying in my almost 20yrs of marriage!! They look delicious!! I am quite impressed with you already!!
Sounds like Mama Beth thinks you've gotten off-track in some kind of cooking cult!! Ha! Ha! Ha! She busts me up how she jumps on and comments to her daughters...to cute!!
Little story: I can't sleep so I thought I would go to the kitchen to make some hot chocolate on the stove...I forgot it was out there until I heard it boiling over everywhere!! What a mess!!! I got distracted by your blog Melissa!! I am actually horrible in the kitchen, never been my thing, ya know?? Well, maybe you don't know, but I bet Bethie does!!! Maybe I'll just stick with
entrails also!!!!!
Love you girls!!
Angela in Redmond, WA
Melissa, your excitement and love for cooking inspires me. I am one who is culinary challenged in the kitchen, and I do not like to cook, but I must say your new-found excitement has inspired me. The fruit tart looks so yummy! I definitely don't blame you for taking it to someone's house for dinner. I'm right there with you girl, except I would probably would have been like, "I just wanted y'all to see it and tell me what a good job I did. It is way too pretty to eat." I would love the recipe. Thanks for sharing!
The fruit tart looks heavenly - please do post the recipe!

I just used dictionary.com to help my husband with the difference between irritation and tribulation....Colorado Springs conference baby! I will trade my banana nut bread recipe for that puff pastry one in a heart beat. Giving it up to live it up,

Great job!! I would love to have recipes!!! Have fun studying Esther. We can't wait for the final product!
Melissa,
Where do you go for your resource material?
I would love to have the recipes! That apple tart looks like something the kids could do with me. Your fruit tart looks exactly like one I tasted at a party recently. Someone bought it from a local bakery though. I love making desserts. They're so gratifying. And these desserts have great presentation. Always a plus in my book.
You look great as always. And I love the glass doors on your cabinets.
UUUHHH, Yes, absolutely we want the recipe!!! I'm still thinking all of us Georgia siestas need to throw you a welcome to Georgia party!!
Leah
I've never had a tart... but I would love to know the recipe... especially after reading about the vanilla pod. Apparently I have a lot to learn. Vanilla comes in a pod? - toni in orlando
Please post your recipe and spread the "tart" love. :)
Melissa, those look great! I'd love to see the recipe for the mixed fruit tart. Maybe I could tweak it in a "Semi-Homemade" way to widdle down the prep time. Thanks, and your kitchen looks cute too!
I am VERY impressed, girl. I could never take on a project quite so big. It looks absolutely delicious. I give you a big applause, I could never do it.
wendy
Oh Beth, You are so funny. You left me in stiches - "cooking cult". I must confess I'm part of that "cooking cult" I love to gormet cook and my whole family, friends, and neighbors benefit. I have got them under my "spell". And thank you Lord for all the abundance of food in this great country to experiment with.
Love, Emily in Ocala, FL
Ok, Melissa what is your secret for baking such beautiful desserts and staying so thin! LOL
The fruit tart is beautiful, looks just like I would find in a bakery. My baking is more along cakes (I decorate, or try to.) and cookies.
Please send along the recipes!
Your tarts look delicious,I would love to have some recipes...
Cindi
Please do share the recipes! They look soooo good! I love to bake!
I want the recipes! Especially for your chunky apple tart. Looks delish! Way to go girl!
Count me in for the recipes. They look delicious. Thanks a bunch. Dee
Please post the recipes! They look delicious.
Dictionary.com is one of my all-time favorite sites.
I had to use it to look up Mensa the other day.
What does that say about me?
And recipes - yes!
ohhh, that looks yummy!! please share the recipe. by the way, LOVE your kitchen; its decorated so beautifully.
Ok, think I'd like both recipes. They are both gorgeous! I've been trying to figure out the Central Market recipe for a fruit tart. If you can do a tart, I can give it a try too!
yes! recipes please!
those look amazing melissa!
i am drooling over my keyboard at work as i type...
I'm interested. I need something elegant like that that is easy to make! :)
Your kitchen is darling - by the way. I think we have the same kind of countertops. :)
FYI - You might be interested in a magazine called "Simple & Delicious." It has quick and easy recipes and you get it monthly.
How cute are you?? Yes! I need recipes please. In our family we compete over everything! This past Thanksgiving we had a "pie contest", of course my Mother won! I need something new to impress my two sisters and my Momma with!! :~)
Yes, recipes are a must!!! Beautiful!!!
Cynthia in OK
Hey Melissa -
Send on the recipes, Girl!
Much love,
Sharon, NC
I can't believe these are some of your first attempts at cooking. That's amazing. I am all about food being tasty & PRETTY and your tarts appear to meet both of those criteria. (If they're half as tasty as they look then we're in good shape) So yes, please post the recipes although I might have to skip the vanilla bean part. KUDOS to you Siesta. Did you look that cute while making them as well?? If so, double KUDOS!!!
how much fun is that. I love to try new things in cooking. However, I am not always so successful. You can read the blog post I wrote at www.gingerbreadfam.blogspot.com about my attempt at making homemade cinnamon rolls for my mom on mother's day. Let me tell you after that long labor intensive process they weren't even good...Defionatly not worth taking pics of.
I would love the recipes! I actually have a fresh vanilla pod and I don't have a clue what to do with it. A fresh fruit tart would be a wonderful debut for the pod :)
Thanks!
Melissa: Please do share the recipe for the fresh fruit tart. I would love it. The pictures you posted look just like La Madeleine. It looks heavenly. Best of luck on Esther. I know it will be fantastic. Have a wonderful week, Julie
Oh Melissa, it just blesses my heart to see your pictures and read about your cooking escapades!
Please do post the recipes, I would love to try them. It is a good thing that you are so diversified in your talents, it will keep you from getting weary. I too would love your recipe for queso, my family loves Mexican food. So good to hear from you!
Both desserts look delicious! Please share your recipes, also the homemade queso recipe we have read about. Thanks!
Valerie
Bring on the yum!!!!
Girl, you ROCK!! Those tarts look delish! I love to try new recipes, especially desserts.
Please post those recipes. I've got a man here who would just love those fruit tarts. And the Good Lord knows I love to make my man happy!
Thanks so much for sharing.
Way to go Melissa!!! Welcome to the wonderful world of cooking!!! Your enthusiasm (and humor) is contagious and isn't is such a blast to watch the delight of your hard work savored by others. Please send the recipes - I can't wait to make them - although scraping out the seeds of the vanilla bean sounds somewhat arduous - how about Mexican vanilla?
BEBE
It's a good thing that your mother taught you to share...cause I would love to have these recipes...AND I am looking forward to hearing/reading what you have to share about your Esther study!!! God is good to allow us to feast on the 'fruits' of your study!
Hallelujah!
As a newlywed myself, of COURSE I want these recipes. Sounds like a great Saturday morning to me!
Melissa - I lived in France for 15 years before moving to Savannah and Strawberry Tart is my familys favorite. I don't know if you know to do this or not but once you have finished the tart you can "glaze" it - put about a tbsp of either raspberry or strawberry jam with maybe 3-4 tbsp of water in a pan. Heat it till it melts and becomes syrupy and thin - stirring constantly. Then just brush the fruit on your tart with a pastry brush. It gives it an extra little sweetness and makes it shiny. I just pass this along as many American receipes don't mention this. Also - do you know about pie weights? Definately get those to make your crusts. I have somewhat of a reputation as a pie/tart queen and would DIE before I used a store bought crust - perish the thought! Your tart is gorgeous! Proof again that the Lord loves us to give us such tasty things!
Your sister in Savannah - Susan
I must agree with the other Siesta's...such fun on this blog. Bible Study, fellowship, entrails, and fruit tarts....Whoohooo!!
I would love the recipes, but would also like someone to come and fix them...
Please hurry on Esther...we are all waiting breathlessly...sort of.
You Moore's are the best. Next time you get together I want to be the fly on the wall and enjoy you all.
Georgia (Bible Bunny in MI)
I too feel the French have monopolized the market on desserts for long enough. Of course we do called deep fried potatoes French Fries so who can blame them? I would love it if you could post the the fruit tart recipe?
Melissa,
Thank you for sharing your pictures and delicious descriptions- You redeemed the LPM blog from the land of disgusting yesterday!
I loved seeing your beautiful kitchen. I can completely see why you are into cooking now- With such a beautiful space to work, who wouldn't be creative?!?
And I am so glad that you took that tart to show off- After all that hard work, you deserved it! Boy did it look good (and I bet it tasted heavenly too!)
Thanks for sharing- Praying for you as you embark on your last chapter of research for Esther!
Yes, recipes please!! Your cooking obsession sounds a bit like my own...and I've found it's a wonderful way to make friends :-)
Melissa,
I also want to echo the sentiments of our Sister in Christ in Fort Smith. While you're sharing recipes, please share your queso recipe with us as well or tell us where to find it. Thanks!!!
Wow I may gain a few pounds just looking at them.
I do have a question? I have never done a study threw a blog, and I was wondering if you could explain how it works...
Thank you
Connie
GBU
I was looking back on the blog, do you all remember when we bacame siesta's
a post from Beth:
One More Thing, My Dear Siestas
A few minutes ago, I jotted AJ (Amanda) an email to let her know that I had posted the commissioning for our "Sistas" and my spell-check objected and insisted that I call you my "siestas." It made me laugh.
And made me hungry for an enchilada. Then ready for a nap.
(may 22, 2007)
Melissa- I definitely don't have the patience or time to attempt the culinary masterpieces you have created here but it sure would be great if you could whip up a few batches for the siesta fiesta! (just kidding). You my dear are a true find - a woman of the Word and a chef. Wow, Colin is so blessed.
Melissa: First I want to THANK YOU for sharing the song and posting the words to "Before the Throne of God." It has so ministered to my soul. There is enough doctrine in that song to make me SHOUT! I immediately ordered the CD from Amazon when I read your post and have played the song over and over and over.
Your culinary skills are amazing, especially as you are a young bride! You have attempted some wonderful desserts that are amazing and so pretty. And so are you!
Loving to cook will make you a great cook - I love it too. Wait until you have children - it's so fun to feed your family. My boys still love to come home and ask "what are you cooking, Mom?"
Hey - since you live in Georgia now, would you like my homemade biscuits recipe?
I love your kitchen - so beautiful. My granite is identical to yours - I saw it under that beautiful apple puff pastry.
Your Southern Siesta,
GEORGIA JAN
Totally want the recipe!!!!!
I LOVE fresh fruit tarts but have never attempted one myself. OH, and we have munchie nights in class on Wednesdays...I've been wondering what I will bring 'cause I work & then travel an hour for class...this would work perfect!
Mellisa and Siesta's:
I am searching for a TRIED AND TRUE DELICIOUS hummus recipe.
Can any of you help me, and I'm sure that Mellisa would enjoy it also! ;0) And, any good books that you ladies have read lately?
Love you all,
Yolanda
xrogersh@pld.com
I would LOVE the fruit tart recipe. Looks yummy!
I have a recipe for a chocolate raspberry truffle pie. Oh my word, that stuff is sin in a crust! Too bad my darling sister, who gave me the recipe, didn't warn me about the hand-squeezing of raspberries, stirring melted chocolate ON ICE, the fact that the "topping" is really homemade Cool Whip, or that it takes a few HOURS to prepare.
That said, is is heavenly....
So if the fruit tart is that involved, you'd tell us like a good Siesta, right?
Melissa,
Your kitchen is beautiful!! You do have a knack for decorating. And your cooking skills, well, the pictures speak for themselves. Your husband has got to be lovin life!
Love you
Laura

So many darlin' things on one post, your kitchen, your tarts and of course You! Would love the recipes--they look delicious. Thanks,
Patti
I'm always ready for a culinary adventure... my last one took about three hours... but I'm ready for the next. Could you post the recipes, they looked delicious!
Yes, yes, yes... give us the recipes! You are a culinary inspriration! I am blowing the dust off my Kitchenaid mixer and getting to work!
Ooooooooo! I want the recipes!!! Mostly so that I can call my husband and ask him to stop by the store and get me a vanilla pod ... and he can ask, "a WHAT?" and then he can be totally amazed at his wife, wondering what she is going to surprise him with this time ....... ah,yes. :)J/K! But they look awesome. Delectible. Yummy.
Also, where did you get the scalloped plate that you served the mixed fruit tart on? So cute.
Beautiful tarts. Very impressive!!! You totally deserve accolades, for presentation & I feel sure taste but most of all for diving headfirst into the art of baking.
Recipes, please....
please - oh please - posts the recipes! your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL! and so are you :) Sunshine
You are the bomb.
