An Off Week

I don't want to sound like Queen Compalainy from the Hawhiney Islands, but this week is not one I'd like to do over! I know lots of us are leading Bible studies or ministering in tons of other ways, so I'm thinking there's a good chance that a few of my siestas have also had an "off week" where serving the Lord is concerned.

On Wednesday night I hosted a shindig at my house to welcome our college girls back from their long winter break. I went to Central Market and bought all kinds of goodies to snack on - California rolls, chips and salsa and guacamole, and chocolate chip cookie dough. I know, it was a very weird assortment of food. I put The Tod to bed, rearranged our furniture to make room for a crowd, and waited for knocks on the door. Well, I got two knocks on the door. Thankfully, that was a total of four girls. But still. I normally have about fourteen on a Bible study night and I was expecting a comparable amount. (I guess it's a good problem to have that your college girls would rather study the Word than hang out!) Do y'all have any idea how much sushi is in my fridge? And that's not the kind of thing I really want to eat the next day. *Grin*

Today I drove out to Fort Worth to meet a new friend from church for lunch. This friend is in the area temporarily while a loved one is receiving treatment at a local hospital. Well, of all things, I drove out to the wrong medical center. I was supposed to have been in Dallas! Thirty minutes away! How in the world had I turned that around in my mind? We ended up having to reschedule.

Then, if that wasn't enough, I went to meet my husband for a spontaneous lunch at The Black Eyed Pea - comfort food at its best. And I needed some comfort. I'll spare you the details, but a toilet exploded water all over me. The bottom of my jeans are still wet. Please, someone put me to bed and let's call it a day!

My mom shared this little tidbit with me and it looks like I might not need to go straight to bed afterall.

One thing is for certain: if we’re looking for a position with automatic and instant affirmation, we might not want to go into ministry. God always blesses but He often applies the Law of Sowing and Reaping and sometimes it takes a mighty long time for that plant to show.

Well, amen, Mama!

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." (Galatians 6:9-10)

Dear Little Amanda,
I know just what you mean! I just finished blogging on my website and the picture I used was of Peter Rabbit's Mum putting him to bed with chamomile tea. I love Beatrix Potter and that was the most comforting thing I could think of.
No, I didn't suffer hardship this week...but for me it was just one of those tough ones.

Praying for you, Little One. You are a trooper! Thank you for all you do.

Blessings!!

Don't you just love (ha ha) those kinds of weeks? I've had a similar one and I feel your pain.

I'm learning (slowly) to appreciate delayed gratification... at least it lasts longer. Eternally in fact, when it comes to ministry.

I can relate a bit. I love leading our Sunday School class and going to church. But this last Sunday I was coming down with the stomach flu. We had to leave church early. :o(

I was sick for 3 1/2 days. By the time I began feeling better (Thursday Morning) and looking forward to getting some cleaning done I had an accident.

I was on my way home after taking the kids to school when I noticed an animal had gotten into our trash. I stop to get out and pick up the trash. When I go to push the trash into the can something in the bag cut a half inch gash in the top of my thumb. I spent two and a half hours in the ER--just to have them super glue it together. Sigh.

Somedays it's best to just go back to bed. :o)

Love, Anna

Ok can I just say thank you amanda! Your advice from your mom was needed by me also. My Yuck week was last week and God asked me,"do you serve Me or do you serve the cicumstances".I hate when He says stuff like that :)

Sometimes I feel like if it where not for how much I love Him or how much my Heart soars when I am serving Him I would hide in my closet and only talk to my husband. Teaching hurts sometimes...I dont know if that makes sense. Thank you for how honest you are ...I was going to say real but how else are you going to be? Our LORD has a amazing way of making us real

One more thing...

Thank you for the message from your mom. I also lead a class for forth grade girls on Wed. nights. Sometimes it's a bit discouraging because they don't seem to be listening or even care to hear what you have to say.

Many of them are from the neighborhood and come because their mom's drop them off on the way to the bar... or because they can get a free dinner... or their grandparents bring them...

I know that Jesus wants me to tell them how much he loves them and to sow those seeds your were talking about. I used to be a girl a lot like them and I'm so thankful God put people in my path to sow the seeds of his love in my heart.

It's good to be reminded that the reaping may be a long time coming. I just pray I have an opportunity to see some of it. :o)

May you have a blessed weekend.

Much love,

Anna

Your exploding toilet wins! I had posted on the prior two and then wanted to add my issues with overeating - but didn't go back to post again. Then, through this bad-to-the-bone week, God showed me a HUGE example. The night after I stubbornly didn't share about my food on the post, a 1st grader at my school came to the office. He was having a horrible morning and burst into tears and blurted, "But I'm just so hungry, I can't even think and it hurts so bad." Did I mention I had just shoved a donut in my mouth as he came through the door? I've been studying out my abuse of God's grace ever since then!
Here's to praying that you weren't still at the restaurant when the toilet exploded!
Peace,

I am so sorry you have had such a yucky week. I am glad you had a nice lunch with your husband and were able to reschedule with your friend. Put on praise music and dance before the Lord, it's the best solution for a bad week. Here are uplifting words for you:

'I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart" Ps. 9:1

"I love you, O Lord, my strength." Ps. 18:1

"Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths" Ps. 25:4

"How priceless is Your unfailing love!" Ps. 36:7

"May Your love and truth always protect me." Ps. 40:11

"Send forth Your light and Your truth, let them guide me" Ps. 43:3

"Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin." Ps. 51:2

"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Ps. 51:10

"Be exalted, O God...let Your glory be over all the earth." Ps. 57:5

"Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You." Ps. 63:3

"My mouth is filled with Your praise, declaring Your splendor all day long." Ps. 71:8

"Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy." Ps. 86:6

"Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your Word." Ps. 119:18

"Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil" Ps. 141:4

"Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground." Ps. 143:8-10

Amanda,

"Queen Complainy from the Hawhiney Islands" That cracked me up! We all need to vent once in a while.

God has used this blog to really minister to me the past couple of weeks. With the "roll call" and then the BF posts I was praising and crying and praising some more. I spent a couple mornings of my quiet time meditating on the scriptures and/or spiritual truths from the "roll call." It was so moving I had to call a couple friends to make sure they weren't missing out on anything on the blog. Know that God is using this blog to minister to me and I know I am not alone!

Dearest Amanda,

I can relate to your pain, and if you don't mind me passing on a word to Beth I would greatly appreciate it.

I sent most of this through the form this morning, but feel a strong need to send this again.

It's Friday, February 1st and my heart is so brokenhearted over words I spoke to you recently in the comments section of your blog. I do not want to repeat what I wrote, but rather confess my error and sin to you, as I have our gracious Heavenly Father. I have judged you wrongly, and I am so very sorry for using such harsh and critical language. I'm sure my words didn't edify you, and for that I repent and am so very very sorry. I am so ashamed, and I have sinned against you. Will you please forgive me for having a critical spirit and for using language that wasn't edifying to you. When my comment wasn't published on the blog, I realized my sin there, and I felt so ashamed of what I had done. Beth, I am so very very sorry if I hurt you. I realize now that in my youth, and in my flesh I was so wrong. You truly are a woman of God, and I am so sorry for what I did. And even more so Beth, I am heartsick that I may have hurt you. I am so sorry Beth....and I have learned a valuable lesson. I hope you can forgive me.

Thank you for your time today.

Amanda,

I certainly do understand about rough weeks. I am very sorry about the toilet experience...you'll look back and laugh at that one of these days. My week has been tiring. I have 4 children ages 7 to 12 and my husband has been out of town since last Sunday. My kids are great, but I teach school full time and I just get so exhausted! I am doing the Psalms of Ascent study right now and last nights homework really hit me hard (in a good way!) It was the lesson about Psalms 125. It said "God is with us and for us even when His face and His favor seem hidden. Mountain-like security only comes from trusting God, not what He's done for us or given us." That was really powerful for me.

I hope that you have a truly peaceful weekend!

Blessings,
Angie

Toilet exploding on you?! Wow,I thought that only happened in comedies. Yes, I've had many days like you've described minus the exploding toiet. These are the kinds of things you can look back on and laugh about.

Last Dec. 23 I was helping at church passing out gifts for the Angel Tree project. Feeling good about being in God's will (pride?)and serving him, anyway, I happened to trip and fall and dislocated my shoulder. How's that for an off week!

Hope my little story encourages you ;) your week could have been like mine.

Can't wait to read the answers to the questions this weekend.

So glad to know I am not the only one... Went to the gym for a group exercise class - I'm the one who likes to 'hide' in the corner and be invisible to all of the young girls. During the first exercise I noticed that my shoes looked funny - on a second look, I realized I had on two different shoes - even different colors! So much for hiding...

I so know what you mean. This week has been a 'challenge' from start to finish. I am leading a women's Bible study on Wednesday nights and by the time I got there I was a complete wreck. I had one of those coughs where you are constantly clearing your throat - I hate it when people do that! I even had a picture in my mind of all 30 women laughing at me for my uncontrollable TB cough. Everything had gone wrong, while I was arranging chairs in the classroom my kids were not being 'their best' and when I finally took them to AWANAS and got back to begin class, I realized I had a hole right in the front of my cute little shirt (I think my bracelet must have gotten caught in the material). So on top of everything else, I thought everyone was staring at my shirt and feeling sorry for me because it was torn. Thankfully, even though I was self conscious the class went very well. And wouldnt you know it, after class was over one of the ladies in the class prayed to receive Christ.......goes to show that God can use us even when we are not at our best (I think I will call that shirt my 'holy' shirt). Sometimes I get so flustered over little things that God has to show me what is really important....like seeing people come to Him.

So, you are not alone! God sees the sushi in your fridge and He will bless you for your efforts to minister to those girls. I am sure you are making a huge impact on those girls and I know they really appreciate you. Your mom's advice is right on target for all of us.

Sorry about the toilet water (I have to say that one of my nightmares has always been that a public toilet would flush out at me instead of in - I know, I need counseling). And also, too bad about the wrong hospital.....I do that sort of thing on a monthly basis, so I can totally sympathize (unfortunately). I think there is something that happens after childbirth that causes some of the neurons to ummmm, 'stop firing'. I have had two children so I am only thinking at half capacity at this point.

Hope next week is better!

I cannot believe how timely this post is (well, yes I can). You described my week exactly (different scenarios, same feelings). I needed to hear your mom's good word of encouragement. I had a little ministry-pity-party with myself today, thinking selfish thoughts like "I am SO under-appreciated". I got discouraged by some things that happened at the Stepping Up study I am leading, and in a few sessions (I counsel women at my church). But that is NOT what my ministry to women is all about, and I know that. It is so easy to let the mind go down that nasty path, though. I fought this all week long - looks like I have not been the only one!
Thanks so much for transparency and encouraging us who also minister in the trenches each week. I'm back on track now!
Blessings!

Amanda- I didn't have that week but I had that day... you see, despite my checking of this blog multiple times a day... usually TOO many according to my husband... you seemed to post in the 90 minutes I was homeschooling my children causing me to miss out on a golden opportunity.

So you see... I too found myself boo-hissing!!

Had I made it to the site in enough time I would have asked this question (which I wouldn't mention except noone else did and it's been on my heart for a while now)

How do we as parents share our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ with our children in a way that will cause them to BELIEVE in Him and not simply accept "Christianity" as routine and or history... How do we help them make this FAITH theirs????

SOrry about your week.

Wow, that post and scripture could not have been more appropriate. I have been in women's ministry for a short time (I had to overcome my fear of public speaking b/f I would answer the call although it still gets to me)
Last January I met a wonderful woman who decided to take the Breaking Free study I was leading. It was my first time leading a study and she was such an encouragement. In getting to know this woman I realized how troubled and tormented she was. Over the year I took her to a healing house of prayer, called her, e-mailed her and just tried to be a friend.
To make a long story short she ended her life on Wednesday night. It was a complete shock since I had already talked her out of an attempt a few months before. I had a team of people including her parents working with her but she just gave up. That was just the icing on an already really bad 7 months.
However, as scripture says we are not to grow weary and we are to look to Him for He is our redeemer and our strength.
Thank you for always encouraging us and loving us through.
Blessings,
Kim

Hey, Beth! Are there any more Wednesday's with Beth on Life Today? I'm not getting any new studies!Oh, and Amanda, I've had one of "those days" also! As I was driving during a rain storm my driver's side windshield wiper broke! As it was flapping in the wind and rain, I had to turn it on so I could lean to the right while I was driving to see out of the right windshield window!!! As I pulled into a Sonic which was right next door to a Auto Zone, to get my wiper fixed, I ordered some drinks for my girls and there were holes in both of the cups, so my cup holders were full of the "wet stuff" as was my windshields.!!! Love ya'll ! Bye and God Bless!!!

And I don't want to sound to sound like a winey hiney either- but can I say...... I understand.
We restarted our women's group last night and... I was the only one who showed up.
It ended up being a good thing because there were a couple of bold words from God while I was waiting.
A GOD thing.
So since I was not going to be teaching I decided to go and visit a local book store and browse-while there I ran into one of the women that was supposed to be at womens group. Hmmm. Could have been very awkward. I was very sweet and told her I was glad she was having a good evening with her daughter hanging out. And I meant it!
So I got a little me time.... away from home. And then instead of eating :) I went shopping. HA! But, to my credit it was necessary shopping.
Glad the week is over and now I am heading out on vacation. Yahoojah!
I am carrying my lap top with me and I will spend some time studying for next weeks study--just like Beth does. But I don't need a laundry basket of resource books like Beth.:)
Have a good weekend--refreshing will come.

You poor thing- I'm sorry!

Oh, how I wish I could be in your college group. I would've come for sure! (It's so great that you work with the college girls. I know I appreciate all of the young adults that work with us :))I'm in a small group right now with the guys and girls from my college group. I'm itching to do a girl's only Bible study too, though.

Hope next week is much better for you!

Have a great Saturday and Lord's Day. =) Jill

Leading Bible study can be challenging. Our group for the Stepping Up series is definitely smaller than I would've liked, but I feel like God always puts a group (certain mix of ladies) together for a reason.

I do love the musical pieces in each video in this series. I tend toward the demonstrative in my praise and it was all I could do not to raise my hands during the praise songs of the first two sessions while, in contrast, one of the other ladies was distractingly flipping through her workbook!

God will make a way,

Oh my dear Amanda... I'm so sorry to hear that you had such an awful week. Thanks for your honesty. =) I can't even imagine how you must've felt when that toilet exploded on you. =( Poor dear!

I am guessing that maybe God wants to remind you that He is still "in charge", hey?

So, just take a deep breath, rest for a while, and start over...

But, better yet, just remember that "His mercies are new every morning". I learned from some sweet lady's book called "Praying God's Word", and I bet you can guess who wrote it... =) Yeah, I know that your dear Mama isn't "perfect", either, but she does know the Word very well, and I can't tell you how much she has taught me from It and Jesus over these past 5-1/2 years.

--------------------------------
I didn't get a chance to ask a question in your earlier post, as we were too busy snowblowing the silly driveway this morning. So, I don't know if you will let this one count as one to be answered, but I'm gonna try anyways, okay?

They are 2 simple questions, I think, at least for people like Y'all who have been studying His Word for decades now.

1)How have you learned to memorize Scripture?

2) How do each of you spend your "Quiet time with the Lord"?

Oh Amanda,

Gosh, what a week you've had! God sure has some strange and different ways to grow His fruit in us, doesn't he? Like patience for one. That seems to be what He's working on in me. ;-)

I pray you have a weekend that's nothing but fun and relaxation!

Love and Blessings,

It's not necessarily been an off week for me personally, but a LONG WEEK!!! I am a mother of three--all girls! This past week my husband and my two oldest girls, ages 6 and almost 5, came down with the flu. It was TERRIBLE! Thankfully I and my 3 month old did not get sick at all. Can I get a Hallelujah! :) I even put a post on my own blog calling it a Calgon story. :) I have just started the "Stepping Up" study and could totally feel the "Woe is me" day. I believe it was day 2, week 1. Needless to say I didn't have a hard time rewriting that Psalm as my own. :) I'm so thankful that God supplies all our needs. He filled me with everlasting strength as I took care of three sick ones and maintained a fairly clean kitchen. :)

Thank you for sharing your story!

I know how you feel. I was just so glad to put my kids to bed last night and just veg in front of the t.v. That was one thing I couldn't possibly mess up or have backfire on me.

But I did have one reason to rejoice. The reason I just wanted to sit on the couch alone was that my montly lady stuff was at work. But I was rejoicing because I had earnestly prayed last month if, just for one month, God would allow it to start on any day other than the one I teach Sunday school on. And bless God, yesterday was Thursday. I just had to praise Him for answered prayer!!!

Thanks for sharing, Amanda. I'm having a bit of a pity-party at my house. My wonderful, smart, hard-working hubby has been out of a job since August and I'm a SAHM.. we have been learning trust BIG TIME and God has been miraculously faithful in His provision, but man oh man.. I have been feeling flat out ignored by Him lately and I've never experienced that before. However, I know I've done my share of ignoring Him.. *blush*.. and in my head, I know He isn't really ignoring me.. that's just how it feels. I mean really.. we're just asking for WORK for a man with a wife and five kids to support and this is not a lazy man, but a man who wants to work!! I know God is teaching us and holding us in His mighty right hand and it is a season in our life, a part of our story, that we will always look back on and be thankful for - our faith has grown, our love for each other has grown, and our testimony is growing.. but it sure isn't FUN. I'm kinda rambling, I guess, but back to your post, I recently had my 12 and 13 year old kids memorize that verse with me - emphasizing IF YOU DO NOT GIVE UP!! Thank you for sharing your heart with us.

Love and prayers~

Thank you thank you thank you Lord Jesus for this precious Amanda!!

I too have been given this scripture over the last two weeks. I teach dance a a small "Christian owned" dance studio where the only one criticizing me is me...anyway I disciple college age kids and do my weekly Biblestudy ontop of a thousand other little things honestly I am not at all tooting my horn or think I AM anything...ok-ok get to the point Tiff:o)WEll I left in the middle of class one night feeling so desperately insignificant yet over run I came home and knew i needed to get myself into the Word. That week was the very scripture that you placed in your blog and I have been clinging to it every day. The whole sowing and reeping concept as well. But the importance of my taking the small insignificant (to me) seeds and since they are packed with kingdom power they posess the greatest potential. Small and hidden. Thank you Lord praise you Jesus!

We live so close to each other, I love Central Market too. I rarely get to go! All the Dallas siestas should get together. Ok I've talked enough. Tiff

I have been making noddles with my noodle maker and I spent lots of time making the dough etc. and sure enough, my two golden retrievers ate all of my noodles!! I cried!! Amanda,
I'm so sorry you've had a rough week. I wish more girls would have shown up for your college night. They missed out!
Last week was a little bit like that for me. I have a stress fracture on my foot and the dr. put me in a big, huge boot on my left foot. It's a pain....feels so huge.
On Wed. I'm doing a series with the youth girls at church. We're doing "Wild About You" and I was already feeling a little insecure and a couple of the girls were laughing and talking through the whole video. Then nobody would comment afterward....
Then, my daughter and I went to a friend's baby shower last Sat. and the mother-to-be told us her mom wasn't there because she found out she has cancer and was sick. We were both very emotional after that, knowing she was hating not being there. I pray she gets well soon and can enjoy that new baby!
Then the next day my 92 year old grandma was taken to the hospital.
This week has been better & the youth were SO MUCH BETTER this past Wed.
Hope your next week is better too!
Have a good weekend,
Valerie

Not an "off" week...just a week with too much "on!"

It was my week to do the ballet carpool...meaning I had 3 LOUD preschoolers smooshed in the backseat of my PT Cruiser for a 1 hour (each way) drive to ballet at a church in Tallahassee. Talk about frazzled nerves.

I shopped online and ordered new furniture for one of the nursery classrooms at church...AND ordered materials for the new children's musical that I'm directing (starting next week!)

I've done TONS of stuff to get the ball rolling for an upcoming local "Miss Patty Cake" concert event.

I've written two 4-week Bible Story unit lesson plans to be used during 2 different children's church sessions.

I've shopped for baby shower gifts.

I've burned 6,000 stinking calories on the eliptical machine (our town has a "Biggest Loser" sort of contest going on, and of course, I've entered)

I've homeschooled.

WHATEVER POSSESSED ME to take on this many projects?!?!?! I barely have my head screwed on straight...I think I was far less busy back when I was a "working" woman!

Yes, I think we must ask God what HE wants us to do, commit to doing those things, and then do them well--the rest won't count for much in eternity anyhow.

Dear Amanda,
This is a week that I am so glad has come to an end. It all started Thursday Jan 24th when my sister in law Stacy (40 yrs old) went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. She had Huntingtons Disease which there is no cure. Then on Wed of this week I find out that my employers are considering moving the company to Atlanta and no longer may need my services. But I continue on pressing forward to our goal. I know as long as I keep my focus on the Lord and do as he would have me do ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE, But I would ask each of you to please pray for each of these situations. My brother Eddie who is a pastor and father of two teenager son 19 and daughter 15.
Thank God the days are new each morning with wonderful possiblities.

Dear Amanda,

First, I laughed so hard at your Hawhiney Island commment..I've never heard that! I'm going to use it with my kids! :)

I want to encourage you, sweet sister. For the past few years, I've been leading Precept studies in my little corner of the world. The group has been as big as 45 people ("LORD, Heal My Hurts" brought people out of the woodwork!), and as small as a handfull.

When our group started to dwindle, I took it all personally. But, God has used that to humble me and to grow me.

From the day that we started, He wrote it on my heart to be faithful if only one showed up.

That hasn't happened to me, but it did happen to the leader that took the baton for the summer. On one night, everyone but one person called to cancel. She the leader showed up and held class, even though she knew only one would be there.

I didn't know about this until just last week, and it happened months ago. Yet, as that "one" told me the story, I wanted to weep. That "one" is a new believer, and she was so ministered to when she realized that the leader KNEW she'd be the only one coming, and showed up and held class with a heart of joy!

Our own Lord worked through 12.

May we never be too prideful to show for one.

My sweet, humble, meek friend ministered deeply to me through her heart of service, and she solidified for a new believer just how much she matters to God and to His servants.

I hope this encourages you.

Press on. Your reward is in heaven.

In His Love,
Jes

I'm so sorry you had a bad week. Really I am. Mine was not so hot either (but my youngest did turn 6 and I got to spend the day at The American Girl doll store, so that was a nice ending!), but when you said you ate at the Black-eyed Pea, that stopped me in my tracks! We use to have Black-eyed Peas in my next of the woods and they all closed. I can not tell you how many times I've longed for those biscuits, sweet tea and chicken fried chicken. Black-eyed Peas was my favorite resturant!!! So, in my book (apart from the toliet water), having lunch at the Black-eyed Pea would make it a good week for me! I hope next week is better!

Amanda - Queen Complainey frorm the Hawhiney Islands is a hilarious "title"... Too funny. I'm so sorry you had a rough week.

I wanted to share two amazing blessings I received this week:

My hubby has been facing a difficult situation with his business, that could have become very ugly. This week it was resolved with the best possible outcome. A great stress relief and definitely answered prayer.

And yesterday I was driving my daughter (11), her best friend, and my son (9) from school. I had a CD of worship music playing, and those three kids spontaneously began singing along with the song:
"... and we'll all bow down. Kings will surrender their crowns, and worship Jesus. He is the love, the unfailing love, He is the love of God." It was just wonderful...

Hugs,
Adrienne

Amen on this post! Please know that the seeds you are planting go far beyond the college girls in your group!!

I also MUST share an "exploding toilet" story that I hope will make you feel better about yours. I was in high school in Plano, the year we had to play all our games at Texas Stadium because our field had been burned by our rivals. I was on drill team and we were getting ready to perform, using the visiting team locker room. I was in full regalia, putting the finishing touches on my 80's Texas hair (think BIG Siestas!) as I stood in front of the mirror above a row of urinals. The girl standing next to me said, "whew...that thing really stinks", speaking of the urinal in front of me. Before I could speak or move, she reached over and flushed it. We found out, as it splashed murky, beyond-foul liquid IN MY FACE, that it had apparently been clogged and "steeping" for some time. It was definitely NOT the bottom of my jeans that was wet!

You'll be happy to learn that, in Texas, the half-time show must go on. I cleaned up as best I could (we didn't have anti-bacterial anything back then, after all), applied a little more pancake makeup and Aquanet, and marched out proudly, flashing my dazzling smile made even whiter surrounded by blood red lipstick. Fortunately for the fans, the field is a long way down-wind from the stands! :o)

Praying that your weekend is a little better than your week and that all toilets in your vicinity are well-behaved.

How precious is that! My husband, who portrayed our ONE AND ONLY, got choked on the piece of bread during the Lord's supper. It was a very special evening Indeed!

Amanda,

I remember my first child at Jackson's age, but by this time I was entertaining a barely-a-few-months-old infant and my bustling two year old! I could not imagine a full boat of ministry in my life at the same time! I honor you, friend. The Lord is amazingly glorified in you. We are so blessed and encouraged by your posts, and your authenticity. It's not murmurring and complaining if you are just relieving whatever pressure you have felt this week! You were also sharing a godly perspective on such disappointments and difficulties - it is all to His glory, dear - and He loves you so.

Blessings beloved.

P.S. Sometimes it helps to express our frustration to others in words, it helps us to hear where we need to realign with God or where we have discovered some juicy revelation that we need to chew on for a while. It is amazing how the Lord works that out when we are sold out to walking with Him everyday.

I was so disappointed, until I realized how much God is using it to strengthen our friendships and help us share things we wouldn't with a bigger group. Hang in there!

I had one of those "bad weeks"...but mine was all cramed into one day....It was actually a year ago, but it was so bad that I remember it like it was yesterday! To comfort myself I bought a VENTI/FULL FAT w/ WHIPPED CREAM Mocha before heading into my Graduate class. I ended up knocking the entire pickin' thing over b-4 I even had a sip! I seriously was concerned if I was even capable of driving myself home! Oh, it was ugly!!! Thanks for sharing! Ü

To Taralynn, I am SOO sorry, please know that you and your family are in my prayers!

Wow ladies, I wonder it sounds like we have all had a rough week! I know I have - I wonder if it has something to do with how encouraging and major the BF post questions on areas of bondage still and victories won! I know I my heart was heavy over the bondage stories, but major lifted over the stories of victories!

Maybe we are all a little tender right now, and the enemy loves to pounce during those times! I am a homeschooling mom, kids were sick this week, home business was nuts, just really in the throws of life, with the threat of total defeat right around the corner. But, we didn't fall off the horse this week - kept doing battle, and now it is Saturday and tomorrow is the beginning of a new Lord's week!

Hang in there Siestas - His mercies are new every morning!!!

Ghee, what a week, sorry. I guess we've all had them.

My week wasn't great either. I live in Arkansas and we had 40-60 mph wind that resulted in several roofing jobs at some of our properties (I'm a property manager, we had property (subdivision) where the pipe to the community well busted, we had 4.5" snow, snow forced cancelatin of lunch with a friend, flu shut down our school (25% absent)and it's cold!!

I am h aving a pizza party for my S.S. kids tonight and I am hoping that with all that is going on I have a good turnout. I understand the planning for a group and then the disappointment when a handful show up.

On a good note, it is my rare weekend completely off and I slept til 11:00 this morning!

Have a great weekend!

Oh Amanda,
My heart goes out to you. I have to say that I am not suprised since there was so much accomplished in the eternal realm with the last couple post this week! (I'm still reading thru them!) They were so powerful, I sent the link to women who might not ever visit this blog. Many times there seems to be a backlash for all the territory gained - which I am sure there was. :)
But take courage, even this blog was an encouragement to God's saints. I know it sure fit perfectly for this household's week.
Be encouraged, even with your small group! I'm with you for the calf rolls - alltho my girls would love them!
We'll pray for God to show you a glimpse of the mighty things accomplished this week for His glory and for a great weekend!
love you
mk
PS - I'll be praying for the dear sister and her dad. I have been there and will pray!

Sorry about your week, I've had one myself. No details. No exploding toliet.

May I make a suggestion? Next time you open up for questions, give us notice and also do it when everyone has a chance to be a part, those of us at work could not be a part.

We are studying Psalm and it is very personal and exactly what I need at this point in my life. Last year was a very hard year for me and it was all personal.

I was working on Psalm 125 last night and I see that God delivered me from "someone and circumstances" after "enough" Psalm 123 and 124 with that person! God removed that person from this earth and unfortunately that person is not with our Father.

Enjoy your weekend. Treat yourself to that special treat.

Oh, Amanda! You have my sympathy! I'll share a little thing to hopefully help you feel better. I was to teach children's church one morning and I had the lesson prepared but I needed a fresh banana. I planned to get one from the Kroger's next to my church. I was early and feeling good about myself when I turned the corner and saw that the Kroger's closed down! Time was ticking so I decided to try the gas station (lot of prayers went up before I went inside). Spotted bananas. Gas station #2, spotted bananas. Gas station #3, spotted bananas. So, I decided to find another grocery store. Worship time had started, still had some time before children's church. I got so lost (lots of construction) and I couldn't find a grocery store. Nor could I find my way back to church! I called the Pastor (I was desperate) over and over thinking for whatever reason he'd pick up his cell phone. Finally I had a meltdown (did I mention I was pregnant?) and left a sobbing message on his phone. My husband was asleep at home - dead to the world so he didn't hear our phone ring a million times. I left several sob messages on our phones too. (He's a fireman and had worked a 24 hour shift). SO, I ended up making the biggest circle around the Beltway and made it to church - an hour later. Still no banana. I burst through the door and asked through tears, "Are there any children today?" Yes, I asked that as soon as I got in the door and yes, it was during the service. I was THAT distraught. And, you know what? There was not a child present. Can you believe?? We are a small church but WHAT IN THE WORLD??!!

I'm sending you a starbucks coffee one of your favorite with an extra shot in it. It must be the time of the year as I feel very spiritually down these last 2 weeks. Not a week I want to repeat either. It can only get better thankfully with the Lord in our lives. I often wonder if he helps out with our fun or not so fun week, he probably chuckled up in heaven about the toilet, you have to admit now that was funny. I now not when it happened. God has a good sense of humor. I'll be praying for you and remember
"HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU."
That's what God has been teaching me no matter what happens in our lives " His grace is sufficient for you."

I am having kind of a rough week, too. Our family is moving from Europe back to the U.S. in 2.5 weeks, and there is a somewhat mountainous list of things that need to be done before we can get on that plane ("we" being me, my husband, our 4-year-old and 4 cats). I have had a nasty cold for nearly a week, and have not been able to work on much of anything on the list. Then on Thursday, I found out that I am pregnant. I am 36 and have lost 3 babies previously, so finding out I am pregnant usually brings at least a little anxiety. This time I'm kind of overwhelmed with thinking about trying to make such a huge move while pregnant. But the Lord knew what He was doing, so I am trying to trust and not be afraid.

Siestas, if the Lord brings us to your mind, would you please pray for me and my family? Please pray for us not to be anxious about anything, for peace in our household and for us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts rather than lean on our own understanding. Oh, and that God will help us find the house He has for us in the States. Thank you so much for your prayers.

I am totally with you on the bad week topic. My 6-year-old, independent minded, strong-will child, had 3 behavior episodes this week complete with time outs, etc. She was sent to the office as well. Needless to say, she went to bed earlier than normal two days and lost dessert (Moose Tracks ice cream) all week. I was ready to send her off to a boarding school, but she's so darn cute! We are having major discussions about self-control and asking God for help! I'm seriously hoping NOT to repeat any of this next week!

Aj,
Thanks for the words! My husband is a pastor and we often wonder if ANYTHING we are doing is reaching anyone!!! Your Mom knows just what to say.

We just have to remember that all we have to be is obedient. It is not our fault if people choose to not get involved. My husband often reminds me of Jeremiah. He says we just have to do and say what God wants us to, and if the people choose not to listen that is their problem.

It does grow very weary in ministry though! I whole heartedly agree!!!!

Have a great weekend!

Hello Beth and Amanda, I am new here. I have been reading for some time now but this is my first post. I just saw this little poem and felt that you girls just had to read it. I am a new mommy and this just touched me heart!

BABIES DON'T KEEP

Mother, oh Mother,

come shake out your cloth,

empty the dustpan,

poison the moth,

hang out the washing

and butter the bread,

sew on a button and make up a bed.

Where is the mother whose house

is so shocking?

She's up in the nursery,

blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little

Boy Blue (lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

Dishes are waiting and bills are past due

(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).

The shopping's not done

and there's nothing for stew

and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo

but I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.

Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?

(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing

will wait till tomorrow,

for Children grow up,

as I've learned to my sorrow.

So quiet down, cobwebs.

Dust go to sleep.

I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep......

Hello Siestas

I do not know how many of you read connorcolesmom's post, but I met her last year at Deeper Still and she is a precious young women!

Please pray for her! I have been in ministry 14 years, have facilitated Beth Moore studies, including Breaking Free, but have never lost anyone to suicide. I cannot imagine what she is going through, but I know the Lord is preparing her for great things!

The enemy cannot and does not win! We know how The Book ends!

To all of you in ministry, especially those of you young ones, the enemy will try to derail you any way he can, but remember you have been set free for eternity and one day Satan will be bound for eternity! Stay strong and in His Word!

Love ya so much!

She lost her eldest daughter to bowel cancer, her husband was diagnosed with the same cancer, her second daughter 's husband left her and her child alone and her son was fired. I know the previous blog question is closed so feel free to delete this question but I soooooo want to ask it, that I thought I'd try anyhoo.

I've been doing 2 Beth Moore studies a year w/my church but in the summer we stop our studies. What process do you use when you are studying to make the Bible come alive and be so dynamic? Do you read a portion of scripture and then ask lots of questions concerning it? I need to begin to feed myself (at least through the summer) and not depend solely on your wonderful studies. Any suggestions would be great.

Your exploding toilet reminded me of an incident I had with my teenager years ago when he was just a tod. We went to the zoo and he was in his stroller and we were watching the lions. The big King of the Jungle started coming towards us and I thought I was going to have a perfect Kodak moment. Much to our surprise, when he got about 3 feet from us in front of the wire fence, he did a complete turnaround and urinated right in my tod's direction and soaked him down! It was disgusting, shocking, and downright hilarious all at the same time! Needless to say, that was one stinking day!

Hope your week goes better next week.

I find such great comfort in the shadow of His wings. "Draw near to the Lord and He will draw near to you."

It's lovely to know I'm never alone....not even in the mayhem of day to day life. My 6 year old started our week with the FLU accompanied with a 103 fever; I thought it was over on Wed until he threw up all over my car which he then refused to ride in until I could prove it was clean. Not to mention I'm the self appointed chairman of his kindergarten school's 1st ever BBQ lunch fundraiser that more than doubled our goal selling 2300 lunches to be delivered next Thursday(praise God,I think, lol). We are also in the final stage of building a house where almost any thing that can go wrong usually does. Oh, man! You know. Suddenly I think I had a pretty good week. We had a huge snow storm this week and my kids only had one day of school this week. I was stuck at home the whole week, cause all of my normal activities were cancelled, so I was stuck in our tiny trailer house with all 3 of my children. I thought for sure I was going to lose it. And now I'm not feeling well, so I'm sitting around at home while my family is at church. Although it's a lot quieter than it has been all week. That's kind of nice. I'm a very social person, so it's driving me crazy. After one day it drove me crazy! That's how bad I am about needing to be around people. Especially other women. Not just children and my husband, but the toilet thing really would've gotten to me. Like they would've had to lock me up!!! So I feel for you. I love you, girl.

I pray Jesus makes His presence obvious and overwhelming to you in the weeks and months ahead. That your entire family may know His comfort and peace, regardless of the day's news and decisions. And that you are strengthened each day and reassured that you are never alone in walking through this trial and grief. He is mighty and in control - when nothing else makes sense, I found peace there. Love, Elizabeth

Amanda and Beth

Couldn't find an e-mail address to send this to for either of y'all, so I am posting it in hopes you will find it here. I'm not sure if you have seen it yet, possibly so, but if not, please go to the following website, www.rickandbubba.com and listen to "A Father's Heart".

Rick Burgess, popular southeastern radio personality, gave the most phenomenal testimony at his 2 year old son's memorial service a couple of weeks ago. Such a blessing to hear the Lord speaking through him. And bring a box of kleenex with you!

Thanks for the blog---I thoroughly enjoy it and some days it is the biggest blessing to hear from you both.

Bless Your Heart!!!!! Thanks for sharing. Isn't it funny how when one thing goes wrong, it seems like everything else goes wrong too?! You have such a good attitude. I remember when my kids were little, one of my toddlers had diarrhea at Chuck E. Cheese all over her clothes so I took my sons shirt off of him to put on her. We had to go to K-Mart next because there was only one Big Bird costume left. While in K-Mart with a shirtless son and a pantless daughter, my other daughter was sitting in the cart and said, I feel sick and proceeded to throw up all over the floor. On impulse, I tried to catch it, so I had red Koolaide throw up all over me, my hands and the floor of K-Mart. We were quite a sight, but did get the Big Bird costume. I look back now and laugh.

I'm so relieved that I wasn't the only one who had a rough one last week (and weekend!). Thanks for your encouragement...really needed it this morning.

All the best!

Oh..those kind of weeks....I love the comment you put at the end of your entry about what your Mom said. I wish I had had that wisdom a long time ago in my ministry!!!!

You are such a blessing even in a bad week!

I don't know if anyone will come back and read this, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who said they would pray for me and my family. I was so encouraged and blessed by that!!

I don't get to read too many of the comments, but I did see those. Thank you so much!

Okay, maybe because I'm pushing 40 and have been in a reflective mood lately, but I think God's given me insight into my own paralyzing thought-life...

I have weeks like yours, and then some. And my initial thought is almost always to say, "As soon as things settle down, then..." And the "then" is to do the things I should be doing (reaching out to someone else, serving in a new way, etc.).

I think God is showing me that I need to act now, in the moment, because things will never settle down!

I read a quote from Rick Warren who said he used to think of life as a series of hills and valleys (high and low points). Now, he thinks of life as two parallel tracks of blessings and trials...the blessings and trials run side-by-side all the time. This visual really resonated with me...I'm not waiting for the next "hill" anymore...instead, I'm focusing on the blessing amidst the trial.

You seem to have figured this out long ago (and good for you! especially since you are nowhere near 40 - I love when younger women hit on a truth that people like me take years to understand)! I admire your attitude and am cheering you on!

Amanda,
I just wanted to thank both your mother and you for all that you have done through Living Proof Ministries. I have read Get Out of That Pit and been a part of women's bible study: A Heart Like His, When Godly People Do Ungodly Things, Believing God, Living Beyond Yourself, The Patriarchs, and Daniel. I have completed Breaking Free on my own. I am currently in a women's bible study group completing Stepping Up. Everyday, I am humbled to my knees and face down knowing where my life would be without the Lord and God's Word.

Phillippians 4:7-And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus.
