Girls-Only Weekend

I think the Lord was in a very good mood when He created the West Coast. It is just ridiculously beautiful there. Sky? Blue. Ocean? Blue. Me going home? Blue. I have been there twice this year (Deeper Still - San Francisco in February) and this time I had to force myself to get on that plane back to Texas. Except that my hubby (aka Hubs) and son are in Texas and we've long since established that "Home is where the Hubs is." That has been my anthem since the Lord first told me to be ready to go anywhere He calls. I was well into my engagement when a veteran minister's wife broke the news to me that most ministers move around a fair amount throughout their lives. What? You mean, we won't always be at this church? Bless my naive heart. That fact had honestly never crossed my mind. When it penetrated the stubborn layers of my heart, I determined that not only was Curt Jones worth it, but my Lord was worth it.

Why was I talking about California again? Oh yeah. Mom, Melissa and I spent Labor Day weekend playing in Santa Monica. We had the most fun! Our last girls-only weekend was 2.5 years ago and I'd say this one was overdue. I'm sure you can guess what we did. My mom sent a text to Melissa and me that said, "Sweeties, don't forget to bring a larger suitcase with room to take stuff home." Translation? We are going s-h-o-p-p-i-n-g! Woo hoo! We shopped, ate, walked a ton so that we wouldn't feel bad about what we ate, and enjoyed being together so much. We were very close to the beach and got to visit the Santa Monica Pier and walk in the sand each day. I could kick myself, but we have absolutely no pictures. My sister and I both thought the other would bring the camera and neither of us did. So we're very sorry that we have nothing to show for our trip other than some fabulous new clothes.

Less than one year from now, hopefully many of us will be making our way down to San Antonio for our own girls-only weekend. We can't wait! I've read through your comments and I want to address some of the issues that were brought up.

1) I'm so very sorry if we were unclear, but the plan all along has been to incorporate the Siesta Fiesta into a larger, existing Living Proof Live event. Even though we will be within a large group, I don't think you will leave without feeling that you've had some quality time with your siestas. A better explanation will come closer to the event.

2) There is unfortunately no way to know whether this Living Proof Live event will sell out. These things are kind of unpredictable. This will be a large venue and I think you have some breathing room, but please don't wait longer than necessary to register. We want to see you there!

3) If you had trouble emailing your information to Beth, you can fax it to our office. The fax number is 281-859-3610. Here is the email address in case the link didn't work for you before: siesta@lproof.org. For the sake of your protection and our organization, let's email our info instead of leaving it in a comment.

4) Barring any family emergency, I will be there. I wouldn't dare miss it! I can't believe we have to wait eleven months!

Hi Amanda-
I live on the WestCoast (Seattle area) and I totally agree with you about the Lord being in a good mood. You went to a beautiful place! We have relatives near there,(Pacific Palisades, aka "the village") and it is indeed lovely! Thank you for your comments about the Siesta Fiesta, it clears up some confusion. I still want to know: Is Melissa coming also? I'm very excited about all of this. I am a pastors grandaughter and a former missionary kid (MK) and I do understand about the moving- I've prayed for you about that very thing in fact earlier on in your marriage. Love you all-

Amanda,

Thanks for clarifying on the Siesta Fiesta, but I'm holding out to register until I hear whether there will be a Tex-Mex all you can eat buffet for the Siestas. Yes, Beth's teaching is certainly a draw, but c'mon! You can't have fun and fellowship without food!

(Okay, you know I'm kidding!) I'm there unless it conflicts w/ college drop-off!

I just found this blog yesterday, and since you moderate all the comments, you can tell I've been reading and commenting like crazy! I've been crazy about your mom and how she teaches the Word for over a year and now I'm just crazy about you too! Thank you for sharing you and your life. Your little one is precious. I've enjoyed seeing all the pictures of him over the past year :). Thank you for being such a blessing (and not the kind in disguise). In Christ's love, Cathy.

I'm glad you had such a great time on your girls-only weekend! Too bad you don't have any pics :(

I'm kinda bummed that the Siestas thing is in San Antonio. I'm in ATL and don't think I'd be able to go.

Oh! and I just started Beth's "Believing God" study and I am loving it already!!

Your weekend sounded like a blast! I have 3 little girls 8,3 and 2( and 2 boys- 7and 15 mo) and i look forward to when we can have girl weekends! My oldest and I shared a manicure/pedicure and shome shopping just last night. We had a blast!

Cant wait for SA for two reasons:
1. Get to see your Mom teach in person and hopefully some of the Siestas too!!
2. I get to bring my Mom who is saved but has never been really gotten plugged in to a church or done a Bible study-EVER!! As she says, "I am just not into the Bible Study thing." I am believing that will all change when she hears some great teaching and sees thousands of women being transformed by His Word!
The only bummer:
11 months does seem too far off!!

I am hoping to come but unsure. Where can I get the shirt I saw on the Deeper still blog? Love it!

Your trip sounds like it was wonderful!! You can't go wrong with the beach and shopping!! I know the siesta fiesta is 11 months away but I had my Deeper Still ticket for almost a year and I can't believe it is here!! Also, for anyone going here is a little info.... my siesta friend Kim made reservations for us and we tried the 1st Marriott that was mentioned and it is sold out! Fed-Ex and Loreal have most of the rooms booked. I thought I would pass this along to you. I have found in the past that it is very important to book your room early. I better get off of here and get packed. I am so behind.

Ohh....shopping in Santa Monica with your best girls ... good times!

Glad y'all had fun :)

And I agree with Vicki's (joking) comment. Can we have chips/salsa at the venue for sell instead of pizza :)?

Hopefully, all of us siestas will be able to meet up before hand, I think that doesn't have to be incorporated by the Moore ladies, I am sure we will all figure something so we can make sure we all stick together.

I know on some of the blog siestas are already planning...

I know Jenny is already all about meeting up for mexican food( silly siesta:-) ...

Oh and siestas I am on myspace now too..its not spectacular, but figured it was easier for people to talk:)

Does anyone have any idea where the San Antonio event is "likely" to be held. I like staying close enough to walk to the event, so you don't have the nightmare of traffic. I've already ordered my tickets, and we are going to make this a part of our family vacation. Truthfully, I would have driven the whole way alone from Wyoming! I've been blessed to take 5 other friends to SLC and my oldest daughter to Omaha in the last year for LPL's. Just about everywhere Beth goes is a loooooong drive for us. Is it worth it? Oh Yeah!!

So glad you had fun with your mom and sis! I know that my "me" times are few and far between but so worth it when they do come! Love my family but Love when I can get away with friends/family as well! :) no pics ... my heart would be so sad if I were you (I'm a picture freek) Glad you have your memories and clothes to hold on to :)

Oh, how fun! (Especially the shopping part.) You know none of my friends here like to shop. I've really got to get out of here. But every time I think we're going to move Josh finds a job right here and God keeps us here. When we first moved here when we got married we were only supposed to be here for 2 years. Ten years later here we still are. All our kids were born here and everything. By the way, I'm definitely not going to make it to San Antonio. My hubby talked me out of it.

What!! You were in Santa Monica and didn't tell me!! I live about 20 miles away. I could have reached out and touched you three!! Just like I missed Beth when she was in Long Beach on the Queen Mary for the Daniel film footage. LB is my stomping ground. I could've had lunch with your mom!!

The three of you were here when we had such a HOT spell. But being Texans you were probably used to it. :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed your weekend.

My niece is a traveling nurse and has been in the Pismo Beach, CA area the past few months. My mom, my sister (nieces's mom), and her daughter and I went to visit (from OK) & stayed right on Pismo Beach. It was up on a cliff overlooking the ocean. We had a two bedroom condo that had the most wonderful view of the ocean and pool from the living room & of course had a balcony and then both bedroom had balconies with a different ocean view. From my bed I could pull open the drapes and there was the ocean. God blessed this time with my family. His favor was all over our trip. I forgot to mention we always have good food too! I love the ocean and the weather couldn't have been nicer.
I'm so glad you girls were able to have some time together. We usually incorporate a Living Proof Live Conference into one of our girl trips.
I have my two tickets for the Siesta Girls Get-Away, but still am a little uncertain if we are supposed to go ahead and make our own hotel reservations or will y'all have rooms blocked off at a certain hotel?
Thanks,
Valerie

and double ditto on the chips n salsa...

i would say i can sort of relate to the moving around because my dad is a minister...but my parents are very blessed to have been in the same town at the same church for almost 20 years! i was able to go to elementary, middle, and high school with all the same friends! so maybe the Lord will have you stay put for a while too! :)

My confirmation came in the mail today and it says the Alamodome is the venue. We booked our hotel rooms too. Siestas book now, the first hotel on the list has already sold out! Wow!!! I can hardly wait to see what God does. If all of us are praying for an event that doesn't happen for 11 months, glory, something amazing is sure to happen. I have goose bumps thinking about it! See ya in San Antonio!

Dear Amanda,
I really hope I can come to San Antonio, but that is an iffy time of year and I am hoping that you and Beth will choose another city on the East Coast that could have another Siesta Fiesta! Please think about it and let us know. Now that we know you are incorporating the Siesta Fiesta into a LPL event, please consider doing 2 Siesta Fiestas. Thanks a billion! We so want to join you. Love to all of you....

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES ~

Amanda, Beth and Melissa, PLEASE DON'T HATE ME BUT ~
I live on the coast in California!
I walk on the beach every morning, have coffee or tea on the deck and watch the ocean go back and forth, back and forth ~ I love you for ever, I like you for always... sorry, that book came into my thoughts! The seals, whales, otters and seagulls come to visit alot. The birds eat peanuts out of my hand ( sometimes my mouth)~
just kidding! I am pleased to hear that the "3" of you were able to enjoy the sunshine of California since you "3" help all of us siesta's "CARRY THE LIGHT" of Jesus Christ! Life is very precious and I smile knowing that you, your mother and sister are taking time to "stop and smell the coffee, clothes, and oh yes roses!"
Come see me anytime!
I love shopping too ~
With "Heaven Bound" blessings,
Kim Safina ~ Cayucos

Hi Amanda,

The Westcoast really is one of the most beautiful places on earth! There is an old song that says "The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle" (that's where I'm from), but California is definately a close second!! My husband and I lived in West L.A. our first 3 yrs. of marriage and have some WONDERFUL memories of the Santa Monica pier and surrounding shops. There is nothing quite like that scenic view of the ocean is there!!!!

So glad you three girls enjoyed yourselves so much!! I have some great memories of shopping with my mom and sister when they came to visit me when I lived there, so I hear you loud and clear on the enjoyment level this weekend brought!! A little "siesta fiesta" you three had!! Can I be a little bit jealous???

Really, really, really looking forward to San Antonio and "our" siesta fiesta with you all!!

I have already purchased my ticket. I have not started looking for a hotel room. I do know all the hotels listed are on or around the River Walk area. So wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk, shop, laugh, ride the boats and enjoy the experience.

How fun to have a girl's weekend with your mom and sister!!! I am a missionary in Venezuela and I miss so much those girl weekends with my own mom and sister--they always include shopping and eating! The Siesta Fiesta sounds amazing! Wish I could be there! Too bad we won't be on stateside assignment--I'll have to watch the 2010 schedule (that's when we're scheduled to be back in the states!
I so love this blog--thank you for taking the time to keep it update--it is blessing people around the world!

Oh how I love a girl weekend. My girlfirends and I get together for a long weekend at least once a year. Getting away together is so much fun--and that time away helps me come back home with a renewed sense of purpose and a renewed energy to serve my family.

So glad ya'll had fun together! Much love to all three of you!

The details are not as important to me as the WORD, chips and salsa. Looking forward to a huge helping of all three!

Can we PLEASE do another one on the East Coast sometime? It's a bit hard to get someone to keep my 3 little ones and my man and my house while I trot across country! Not that I don't think ya'll are worth it, but I hope you understand! Just a thought! Love to all!
