Behold, There Were Many Moon Pies
I am a happy, happy woman. I got to spend most of the day with my mom, sis, and daughter. And this weekend some of my other best girls, Janelle and Ella, are coming to visit. How blessed am I?
Last night we were at church and after fellowship supper a sweet lady came over to our table and handed me this. I could not imagine what was going to be inside this great, big, orange Home Depot bag.

And behold, there were many Moon Pies!

I think it's safe to say that due to the generosity of our amazing blog community, the Moores now have a lifetime supply of Moon Pies. Thank you, sisters.
I delivered the goods to my parents' house this afternoon and took one home as payment. It got a little melty in the car, but I revived it through refrigeration. Now Jackson and I are going to split it for our snack. I'm having mine with tea, which is probably a sacrilege to both Moon Pie eaters and tea drinkers.

All I can say is YUM.

I recently stopped at a convenience store with my youngest son who said......look Mom, Moon Pies.....and there was a whole endcap display of them and I just started laughing and he had absolutely no idea what the joke was. :)

I live in the Northwest and am sad to say that I have never had a Moon Pie, but I have an intense craving for them now!
Amanda,
It just makes me smile that you all have to go to Home Depot and Bass Pro Shops to get Moon Pies!
I live in Tennessee...home of the beloved Moon Pie. In fact, I will be near the original factory tomorrow night!
So this wildly popular game of which is truly heaven or God's Country -- Tennessee or Texas -- may have just gotten a bit more interesting since, girl, we have festivals named for the delicacy that is the Moon Pie!
www.moonpie.com is quite fun and you can even go there to order your Moon Pies by the, ahem, CASE!
And for the record, I truly believe the only way to eat a moon pie is when it is a little "melty!"
Blessings,
Dori
I've seen Moon Pies everywhere lately - and think of you Moores every time! It's now a prayer reminder for me to pray for your mom.
We don't live too far from the official "home" of the Moon Pie! Glad you're blessed with so many. :-)
Y'all just crack me up!
Thanks for sharing.
~Dana
You are so sweet to share; I'd have been tempted to hide and eat the entire thing (with a Dr. Pepper, though)!
I am going to say, big gasp, I don't like the taste of moon pies as much as I LOVE spicy beef jerky. I am sorry to admit this very unforeseen truth.
It is with great regret that I say also...if I were given the option between moon pies or cool ranch doritos? Call me Benedict Arnold, but this girl is gonna choose the chip every time.
So, am I officially kicked off the blog as a reader? Snap!
Hardy har har.....
Can't leave without a scripture I adore: Psalm 63:-6-8. NLT Know that just as we dream of our precious King, He was keenly aware of us.....long before we ever danced with Him in our dreams....that's called prevenient grace, sister...

It's RC Cola, but for you, I'll make an exception.
Never judge a book by it's cover. LOL.
I bet your mom and dad are beside themselves.
I've never had a moon pie - but ya'll make anything sound good!
We ended our Women's Bible Study last night; The Patriarch's. All I can say is WOW! - And when Jacob was buried with...well I don't want to wreck it for someone else, let's just say, God healed my heart a little bit more with that info.
oooooo, I just had my first-ever Moon Pie, a week and a half ago, driving back to Calif. through Oklahoma...we stopped at a gas station in Weatherford, OK. I saw them and lol..I took it up to the man to pay, and told him this was my first one ever..He said, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds, and it will taste like a s'more"....yumo! he was right. wish we had them in California. thanks for sharing the simple pleasures of life. blessings, Pam in San Diego
You know, one more thing, you can let a good old bag of beef jerky hang out in your car, on the hottest day....I mean you could leave it in the car and shop for hours--and, you know what?
IT WON'T melt. It won't. No need for fridge resuscitation. No begging over a cool cup of ice. No need to peel it's smushyness out of the wrapper. Nope, you pop open that bag of beef jerky, and the smell.....praise the Lord....the smell. It just waftes through the car (yes, I see you squiggly red line-but I made the word up myself). Sorry, I digress, the smell WAFTES through your car like, well, a pasture. I know that sounds bad--but I promise it is like taste bud heaven.
Heaven....
Not dogging your moon pies, or anything--I was just saying...
(Snickering)
Don't tell...but I've never had a moon pie. ;)
BTW - Your china is awesome!
Started laughing even before I read the post! Chocolate is always good with tea and a wee bit of cream - Italian sweet cream for me with Earl Grey ----- yum!
Ummmm - where are the Disney pics????
My husband loved Moon Pies with a Pepsi...
My sons heat them in the microwave for a few seconds and say;;; some-mores..
Squishy chocolate moon pies are close to heaven,I hear.Lol
Sacrilege or not, I'm feeling the yumminess! :)
Glad you got to hang with all of your girls.
Moon pies and Snickers with a big glass of Coca cola. One week out the month . Have a Blessed weekend with your friends . Ya'll always make me smile!
All those moonpies and you only took one moonpie! I thought you took 1 box. Amanda, you are showing great restraint in only taking one. I am proud of you. Now if you could only teach me how to do the same. LOL Isn't it wonderful how one story can touch so many people. The power of blogland! Have a great day.
I must be delirious with hunger because when I saw that picture I thought, 'oh look at that yummy looking turkey sandwich I wonder what kind of bread that is. Did she put cheese on it? Mayo, or mustard?
I obviously have no first hand experrience with moon pies, and am obviously hungery for a good turkey sandwich!
Funny that you mention Moon Pies... I was at our local mom and pop grocery store in Whitewright, they always have moon pies. Anyway, when I saw them I seriously thought about grabbing a box or two and putting them in my cart for the Moore family. Sounds like you guys are set for a bit!
Blessings,
Georgia
Any good southerner (not southwesterner) knows that moon pies are best consumed with an RC cola.
There's a story about a purchaser for Wal-Mart who got a great deal on a truck load of MoonPies and they tried to sell them in Minnesota. They didn't sell one of them. So they had an event, and Walmart employees were tossing MoonPies to folks in the crowd. These folks who didn't know what Moon Pies were just let them fall to the ground. You know if that had been in the South, we would have been diving for those suckers!
Peace,
Kim
Hmmm, do we even have those things here? I've never had one...but if I ever see one, I'll buy it, and think of some of my favorite peeps.
Melana in Wyoming
I have those very same dishes - loved them 25 years ago - still love them today!
Very funny, Amanda! I have been anticipating a diesel bringing a load of moon pies to y'all ever since the tale began...that takes away the fun of the treasure hunt, though. I do like to search and find!
My Chris would say (with your picture of tea and a moon pie) that there's an RC Cola out there with its lip pooched out.
I have never eaten, seen, or heard of this Moon Pie phenomenon until you all mentioned it!
I live in the Pacific Northwest and I am wondering where I can get one of these things?
I've just got to try one!
You crack me up.
So cute! I LOVED the your mom's moon pie post and it was fun to hear how God is blessing you all with more of that yummy sweetness!
Never heard of one till this post, and the link back to the earlier post. hmmmm chocolate double decker in the original post, will have to check that out. :)
Fun post! I love "being in the loop" and knowing what this one is all about!!
Love y'all,

Are moon pies mentioned in the Bible? Siesta OC is that what Jacob was buried with?!? : )
How could my daughter have gone to Vanderbilt University and this Michigan mom never heard of them?!
Looks good, sweet girl! Enjoy!!! Just had dinner and there is nothing for dessert (not an accident) and this is looking very delish...
LOL! I was telling a co-worker about how I'd first heard about Moon Pies on this blog. Being from MN & WI, I had never heard of Moon Pies. My co-worker grew up in Florida and had enjoyed many a Moon Pie. Lo 'n behold, a couple of days later I came back to my desk from getting coffee and there was a package of Moon Pies. My daughter, Claire, and I enjoyed them for dessert that night. Yummy!
Mary Ann, Woodbury, MN
P.S. It was the new Peanut Butter Chocolate flavor. Siestas, you can go to Moonpie.com and order a gift pack that includes the St. Paul, MN, favorties, Nut Goodies & Salted Nut Rolls -- made by Pierson Candy Co., located in St. Paul.
Not to take the spotlight away from the Moon Pies... but I have to say, I love the Home Depot bags. The plastic clips clip onto the sides of the shopping cart.
As for Moon Pies, I don't think anyone in siestaville will ever see them again without thinking of Keith Moore and the Moore clan.
Enjoy your stash.
yum!!!! And RC Cola that was my favorite growing up! We lived across the street from a little cafe and I used to go over and get an RC Cola and do you remenber (not you Amanda - you're too young) the days when pop bottle caps had money under them! I used to get all the caps from the pop machine and peel off the cork to see what I had one, 5 cents, 15 cetnts and I think one time the BIG PRIZE $5!!!!
Going to Tennesse in October maybe I'll look for the factory...
Thanks for a fun story
I agree...YUM!!!
Girlfriends...I am so in agreement with y'all about the RC and MOONPIE combo...grew up with that here in Hoosier land...on a hot day...tern't nothin' bettuh!
Keith deserves all those moonpies! He's our favorite Bible Lady's Prince Charming!
I happen to have some mini ones in my pantry right now. Think I might have one before bedtime!
I have never cared for moon pies, they are usually stale, but my husband asked me out on our first date with an offer of an RC and a moon pie. I refused to go for several weeks...finally gave in and we've been married now 23 years in June. Still don't like moon pies!
If you have a chance, I would love for you to take a look at a Bible study I'm writing on my blog...lessons from the ladies room.
That tea looks yummy!
We have the same dishes - though mine would look better with a moon pie on them. ;)
moon pie on a fancy plate. beautiful :)
That is hilarious.
wow!! what pretty china! Love feeling so 'pretty' sometimes when I have my tea too!
LOL on all the moon pies! I bet your dad has never loved the blog or the Siestas more. ;)
Have a great weekend with all the Moore, Fitzpatrick and Jones women!
love,
rachel
totally pitiful.....(which in Texas is not necessarily a bad thing.) lol
Is life not just the absolute funnest thing ever?????
Here's to moon pies, wherever you can get them, and with whatever you drink! **toast**
In KY MoonPies must be a staple food...we still have them in our Krogers and WalMarts!
HaHaHa!!
Everytime I see them I laugh :)
What kind of tea do you drink? Do you put cream in it?
Does this mean that we can expect a moon pie at the conference in January. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.
I do declare, that is the fanciest moon pie I have ever seen. Just makes me want to break out gramma's china! :) I love it, great idea!
I can't see a moonpie now without thinking of y'all!! =)
I am at the Biltmore in North Carolina and I thought man the taping of Esther should have been filmed there!! =) I was giddy as I imagined the queen of persia and her quarters. I thought about the king of on his throne when I passed by what looked like a throne room. I also thought about pagan societies as I looked at some of the strange art...like a baby holding two snakes. WEIRD.
I was so sad when I thought about how distracted we are in our day. My husband, daughter, and I were on the road and he was listening to his i-phone, Morgan was watching a movie, and I had a praise cd on. I thought about the architectural history of that mansion and how much thought had to go into it. I really believe that when we look back on some very rich writings of the people of our faith and see such purity and depth that we are lacking so much of it because we are so consumed in our isolation of internet, tv, and etc. Most families don't talk anymore or sit around and learn.
Anyway, it so reminded me of Esther's day! All of the rugs were from Persia!! I just pretended I was at the royal palace.
This made me lol. :-)
Dori.....
Moonpie.com is crazy awesome! Ha! I live in Georgia and we were raised on eating these things too...but that website is serious about them. Ha!!!
The GRITS (Girls Raised in the South)that are referring to RC Cola and Moon Pies are right!! BUT, now I would have to have mine with a Dr. Pepper!! Amanda, we're headed to Disneyland on Wednesday, should I take my own Dr. Pepper?
Sasha, we just moved home to Texas from Seattle and we never found them there either. If you would really like to try them, let me know and I'll send you a box! I do like the idea of 30 seconds in the microwave, too.
Maybe we should have them in Houston in January!!!!!!!
I just want to say for the record that I've NEVER eaten a Moon Pie. Didn't even know they existed until you all enlightened me! I still haven't eaten one, but I'm apparently going to have to eat one soon. Are they frozen?
Ah, Moon Pies!!! I used to relish getting these as a kid and swigging an ice cold Delaware Punch with them. I can't find Delaware Punch anymore around my neck of the woods. I live in N. Texas and the Moon Pies are plentiful. Unfortunately, I can no longer eat them because of my gluten allergy =(
Eat a Moon Pie for me!!!
Love to all siestas,
Tishira
I bet the Moon Pie makers are trying to figure out what in the world they did right, because they are probably seeing a huge increase in sales--thanks to Keith Moore!
You know, I'm as southern as fried grits, but somehow I missed the moonpie gene. Glad y'all are all set if famine strikes. Thanks for the smiles tonight. I needed a few. Love you girls, Annette
So I just zoomed in on your picture of this thing you call a "Moon Pie" and I really wish I hadn't. It looks scrumptious and is causing me to feel snacky. However, I'm making the decision to stop the caloric rampage I've been on today...one Moon Pie at a time.
Have a great weekend with the girls!
(note: just found out that dictionary.com does not recognize "snacky" as a word, but I will continue to use it anyway
and define it as my constant state of being)
Ok, I know this is totally random, but I sent a shorter version of this poem to my daughter after reading your post to let her know that you'd written a new one and give her an idea of the topic:
Hi,
The moon pie
will never die.
No lie.
Don't even try
(like a guy)
unless you fry
it in the sky
and then cry.
(or sigh)
That's why.
Bye.
Tea in a beautiful cup and saucer! You are my kind of girl:-)

It's almost midnight and I should be in bed...but now I'm craving moon pies for crying out loud.
Fun post!

Ohh - and the dishes look so pretty!
Warm in Alaska.
AHA!! How awesome is that timing! Had my very 1st moon pie today! Went all this time craving something I have never tasted. Went to all the groceries stores in Anchorage, Alaska. I even asked the Lord to delight me and to spare me from going into the convenience stores. Can't quite explain my hesitation w/convenience stores...
fear/laziness/pride. Anyhow, what a delight to have the sweetest Angel give one to me. Inhaled it! Home Depot here I come.

Since I read the original Moon Pie blog to my husband (named Keith) and daughter, it is an inside joke now at my house. We live in TN where there are plenty of Moon Pies. My Keith's birthday was May 1 so our daughter included 2 MP's with his gift. Being females, it was all we could do not to eat them before he did. Then the next week (being the good wife I am) I went fishing with my Keith. We stopped for snacks and, yes, he grabbed up 2 MP's. One for each of us.
Didn't think much about MP's before. We will never be the same!
Did you know they now have "mini" moon pies? That is what I buy for us...well, me. But my grandkids love them, too!! Especially our 3 year old..he still has speech challenges so when he comes to our home he always asks for a "ocolate ookie"....I just love it!!
~Beth
I'm suddenly wantin' a Moon Pie and a RC cola ;o)
Can't look at a Moon Pie without thinking of ya'll.
I am glad you all are home safe and sound. Glad to hear you all had a great vacation. Thankful to for the blessing of the moon pies. I may have to find myself one! In Jesus' Love Kathy Knoblock
Every time I shop now, when I see Moon Pies I think of you and consider buying them to send to you.
Like your family wasn't on my mind and heart enough already.*grin* I pray for you all the time anyway, but now I'm praying in the grocery store too.
The only way to eat a moon pie is to wash it down with an RC!!!
Everyone in North Carolina knows this!
We saw Moon Pies (a giant display of them) at the Savannah, GA Bass Pro Shop! They had orange and strawberry flavored ones and double deckers as well!!! I think of you guys everytime I see them now. ;o)
Amanda,
I am so happy to see you drink your tea in a pretty cup and saucer! It must be a remnant of the time you spent in England....
I would have to say that although you're supposed to have an RC Cola with your Moon Pie, the tea looks like a great choice too.
Does Jackson take after your Dad with a fondness for Moon Pies??
Hugs,
Adrienne
Beth and Keith--
Just a hint....the moon pie "surplus" stash can be frozen, if need be.
I don't know if anyone has posted this but here's a neat dessert made with Moon pies. We have it at Wednesday night church fairly often and everyone loves it.
Moon Pie - Pie
Crumble Moon pies in bottom of dish
Cover with Chocolate pudding
Top with Cool whip
Sprinkle Cool whip with chocolate chips!
YUM!!!!!
Enjoy

Just to let you know. I was at the Cracker Barrel off the Katy Freeway and they carry Moon Pies. Your dad will not have to go all the way to Bass Pro when you run out.

I found Moon Pies in Montana! Yes!
The odds of that are rather astronomical...
I bought two, a vanilla and a chocolate, and smuggled them home in my tote. I neededn't have bothered. The rest of the family looked on with great suspicion, as I ceremoniously unwrapped the vanilla one. "Want a bite?", I asked. Even the two year old turned it down!
I think they are better in the South. In their natural habitat. Warmer. With friends, who aren't poking at them and making "EWW" noises.
In scanning the comments, I didn't see any mention of Strawberry Moon Pies. Did you know there was such a thing? I'm not a fan of any of them myself, but I'm wondering if Strawberry flavoring is some kind of Moon Pie sacrilege or if sounds in the least bit appetizing to you who love them?
And of course Amanda, if you and daddy would like a sampling, I'm sure there's a siesta here in Alabama who would make sure you got a box or three. :)
When I was at the Sam's Club last weekend, I saw a large box of double stack Moon Pies and thought of y'all. So if the lifetime supply lasts a little less than a lifetime, you have another source for this treat. Enjoy!!
Sign me up for a tea time at your place!
I live in California and I had never seen Moon Pies here before. Well lo and behold I went grocery shopping a couple of weeks ago and there in the bulk food sections was a whole table of Moon Pies. My husband and I started laughing (I had told him about Keith's dilemma). I said no wonder Keith couldn't find Moon Pies in Texas anymore they sent them all to California. They had three flavors, chocolate, strawberry and banana and we bought two of each. They were doubles. MY my are they ever rich but they are tasty.
I am so glad to hear that Keith is getting a mighty supply of his favorite treat. God is good!!!!

Okay. Okay. I am admitting that heretofore I have not liked Moon Pies BUT if they are good enough for the Moores then I think I shall give them another try. :) And Tara G, I'm with you on the Dr. Pepper!

I love the picture of your tea cup and moon pie... Hope it was a yummy snack!
I love your dishes. I have had the same pattern for years and never tire of it!

I love your dishes! They remind me of my Oma's stuff. My moms parents were German... I miss seeing her things.

Ooh, I like your china.
This one's for Melissa:
I just received my family cookbook from my aunt Lisa. She included her family, of course (in-laws, and I love her in-laws--they are Greek!)and her friends. There are people in there I do not know, but most I do.
It doesn't matter b/c you don't know any of them. Now, I know why it took her so long past Christmas. She included photos on almost every page. It is also a very thick book. Lots of diversity! I consider myself to be "in the know" when it comes to food, but I did not know a lot of these. There are many new one that I can't wait to try.
I am going to get a copy made when I get time. I will have to find a great place around here where people can do it right! I'll also include a note, explaining a few things. You can say that my family is, uh, SPIRITED, and not all of them in the Holy way.
However, you are gonna' love these recipes and I can't wait to share them with you. I'll try, let me emphasize the word try, to get it to LPM in a couple of weeks with your name on it. I have no idea how many gifts, etc. y'all receive there. I'm sure it's a lot. I've never thought about stuff like that. I just never send stuff to people I don't know personally.
I did send a card to Ruth Bell and Billy Graham years ago "General Delivery--Montreat, NC" and I really think it got there b/c I never got it back and I always put my return. I'm so glad I did it b/c I just let them know how much they've meant and what an impact they have made. I know they have gotten a gazillion like it, but I'm glad mine was one of them.
One time, I sent a card to the White House, to W with a Texas ranch look on the front. I still lived in WV. I got a very nice certificate back thanking me. I felt so sorry for him. As much as me and W love D.C. I knew he missed Texas with a serious ache in his heart. I let him know that we all loved he and Laura and always would.
Anyhow, I will get it to you as soon as I can. My life is pretty busy, but I want you to have a copy, you blooming chef you. These recipes are from some very serious cooks. You will defintely be able to handle it! Seriously, I can't eat certain dishes at restaurants, high-quality restaurants, b/c I'm sooo spoiled with Italian food. My fellow Italians will know what I'm talking about.
Okay, I've written a letter-post and I still need to get my verse up. And clean, and get ready for a B'Day party at my house tomorrow and get ready for everything!!!
Have a great week girl!
Much Love,

You know what, I just found some Moon Pies at my local grocery store. They weren't there before. I know they weren't, cause I always look in that section to see what kind of goodies they have. They must have read the blog, too! My husband wouldn't let me by any, though. Boo Hoo! I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I feel so left out. Boo Hoo!
Walking through the Piggly Wiggly grocery store today, I passed by the Moon Pies and had to back up and take a second look. I seriously considered buying a couple of boxes and sending them to Keith. But then I thought I would need to send him some RC Cola to go with them and I couldn't find any.
Can't pass by the Moon Pies without thinking of the Moores.
Hope y'all enjoy your stash.
Did you know there are mini Moon Pies? I saw them in a shoe store today, of all places! I didn't know such things exsisted!
TEA goes with everything, doesn't it Melissa?
I have those same (or similar?)dishes!! My husband bought them as my first Christmas present (of us together) 10+ yrs ago which he purchased on a mission trip in Romania. Then fast forward many years to our time here back in Europe and we came across a similar pattern in Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. May I ask the origin of yours? Never eaten a Moonpie on ours though... might have to try it! :)
God bless you!

I have to admit that I love the timing of this story! At about 2:30 Thursday morning I bought a Moon Pie at a gas station in some little town in Alabama (passing through on the way from MS to South Carolina) and thought about y'all. AND I saw a flavor I've never seen before - orange. Had a nice little chuckle to myself as I bought a chocolate one to go with my cup of coffee.
I live in the PacNorWest, Seattle area, and had never known what they were. They look really, really good! I would eat one with my Starbucks latte for sure! And there's plenty of those here!
Glad you all got some moon pies, I thought about getting some myself and sending them on down to Tx. Enjoy!
I am a an addicted tea drinker and I can't think of anything better to have with a cup of earl grey.
I am an avid tea drinker, china cup and all. All I can say is that the thought of a moon pie and a cup of tea make we want to cry tears of joy. Sniff...sniff...hey...THROW ME SOMETHING MISTA!!!! Enjoy a whole one for me next time and not a dainty half!
Love your dishes -- I have the same (25 years now).
Blessings,
Penny
I am seriously perplexed that people have never had moon pies. I've nevah heard such a thing!
We were in Corpus Christi this weekend for a family vacation. I saw that Dotz by the USS Lexington has Moonpie Sundaes. Just in case you are in the neighborhood. :)
