Back to School Prayers
Happy Monday, Siestas! I've missed you! I have a long to-do list for today, and one of the most important things on it is "Blog!"
We had an amazing time in Wyoming. I have so much to say about it and a hundred pictures to share, but something else is pressing on my heart right now.
Back to School Day varies from district to district, but today's the big day around these parts. I can't get my sweet teacher friends off my mind. And don't even get me started about our dear co-worker, Jenn, who sent her firstborn to kindergarten this morning. Weren't we all crowded together in her hospital room holding that sweet baby boy just yesterday? Don't think I haven't imagined what this day will be like for me just two years from now.
I would love it if we could pray for all of our school teachers who are returning or preparing to return to the classroom. If you are a teacher, please chime in and let us know how we can pray for you. If you are a homeschooling parent or a college professor, please let us hear from you, too!
And, in honor of our Jenn and Nathan, I'd love it if we could also pray for our kiddos who are starting the year at new schools. Mamas, let's not mention school names, but do let us know if your son or daughter is entering a new school environment and could use some prayer.
Oh, I just can't stand the thought of leaving anyone out! If your student needs prayer for any other reason, I want us to pray for them, too.
Lord, thank You for the men and women who dedicate their lives to educating children. I ask You to bless them with strength, joy, favor with students and parents, and a strong sense of purpose. Make them fruitful in every way. Give them wisdom, creativity, patience, insight, and endurance. Give them Your supernatural love for each student, so much so that those kids go home each day with a keen sense of being loved by You. Use these teachers to make an eternal difference in the lives of their students. I pray that their families will have an easy and peaceful transition into the school year.
I also pray for all of our students, particularly those who are entering new schools this year. Father, please give them courage, peace, and joy. Let them make friends easily and connect well with their teachers. Let them find their security in You, Lord. Please sharpen their minds and help them learn. Build godly character in them. Use our Christ-following sons and daughters to draw others to You. Help them let go of what others think and to love the unlovely. Help them obey You even when it's really hard. Father, for our sons and daughters who have not yet made decisions to follow You, let this be the year. Let them see their need of You and surrender their precious lives to You.
Thank You in advance for the work You're going to do in our teachers and students' lives this year, Lord. I pray all of these things in the strong and mighty name of Jesus. Amen!

Please pray for my son. He's gonna be a Junior this year. I'm praying God would birth a greater desire in his heart for learning & God to bring a close Christian friend into his life. I pray that he would be a Leader & love the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind & strength.
Thank you!
Today is a hard day, but also exciting day for me. My firstborn became a teenager just THIS MORNING, and will start 7th grade tomorrow. He is such a godly young man who loves Jesus and has a heart for others. Please pray for "7th grade politics", he takes hurtful comments straight to his heart. Pray for a new friend this year that would bless him.
Thanks,
Christy
I am a teacher in Alabama. All public schools started on Aug. 10th in Alabama. Thank you for your prayer on the blog. It means so much.
I am looking forward to participating in the Simulcast Friday and Saturday. Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hazel Green, AL is the Host Church where I will be watching and worshipping. Two of my dearest friends will be joining me. We look forward to a fresh Word from our LORD.
God Bless LPM!
Amanda, my heart is so full right now I can hardly contain myself. My son started 1st grade this morning, and at 8:15 (about five minutes AFTER we should have left to take him), he just could not stop coughing. He'd been fighting a cough all weekend, and I sat him on the side of the bathtub with a glass of apple juice and told him to close his eyes. I started praying for a miracle right then and there, and asked God to do whatever He had to to get Corbin well enough to go to school. No sooner had the words left my lips, my sweet baby boy threw up all over the bathroom. All of the phlegm that had caused the cough came right out. The first word out of my mouth was horrifying, followed by a very quick glance heavenward to say, "Thank you, Lord!!"
Please keep my Corbin in your prayers. My heart is absolutely sick at the thought of his first day of 1st grade being hindered by a crazy, not-nice morning. I've been anxious all day!! (Even though I know I'm not supposed to be!!).
Thank you so much. Love, Leslie <3
My youngest is having her first day of college at the University of Oklahoma today! Prayers for our kids, no matter what age in school, are so important! Especially those that we have sent out into the world, hoping we did our very best in "training them up in the way they should go". Say a prayer, please, for my Sara.
PS: I have missed you girls something terrible!! You've been prayed over repeatedly!!!
My "baby" started college today. God's grace is abounding and neither of us has been crying :-) But this is a time when so many walk away from the Lord. My baby loves Jesus, so please pray for that to continue. Thanks so much!
I'd like to lift up my precious niece that is starting 2nd grade in a new school today. Thank You, Father, that she did not get upset this morning and I pray that she feels Your Presence and feels right at home! In Jesus Mighty name I pray!
Hi Amanda,
Thank you for the prayers for our students and children, I have one entering High School and one in College, still not sure what she is suppose to do...I know God has plans for her and that He will be guiding her...I look forward to seeing all the pictures of your Wyoming trip, I really have missed you all on the blog too! Talk to you soon... God Bless your day!

What a thoughtful and WONDERFUL BLESSING you've given us today with this post. Please pray for our granddaughter, Lily, age 11, who is starting that scary world known as "middle school". Giving thanks in all things! Donna in Kirkland, Wa
We're starting homeschooling for the first "serious" year (it was piddly pre-k/kindergarten homeschool w/o much structure up til now). I'm loving it, but my kids are really bucking the structure... we could use some prayer. :)
My son Cody goes to Tech college, first year student. He struggles with ADHD, so I esp ask for prayers for organization, remembering his assignments and not losing them before he turns them in, and for paying attention in class as well as special help in any assignment that involves reading. Also prayers for safety during the commute.
My youngest son Shelby needs prayers for attitude, applying himself, and positive friendships, as well as making choices that are honoring to those in authority and the law.
Both boys need jobs desperately as well as myself. Atleast we made it without any new school clothes or shoes. Cody's books and tools alone are costing $4750, I pray that we can somehow make the payments.
My sweet 3rd daughter is starting 1st grade tomorrow. She is very fearful of change and new environments. please pray for her. My older girls start 3rd/4th grade.
Thank you SO much for the prayers. I just sent my baby boy to Kindergarten and I've been praying all morning for the whole situation. I just love how you perfectly articulated exactly what I've been asking our sweet Jesus for all morning. THANKS!
If you would include my two college students in your prayers would be great..My sister-in-law who teaches kindergarten with such care and me who worries about the college kids..Thank you Amanda for taking time to pray for all of us.
I am a teacher. I have always wanted to teach, since I was old enough to watch my sisters go off to school. I recently graduated with my education degree and became certified, but due to the current economy, teachers are not being hired in my area. In fact, they are being layed off. Could you please pray for the next steps I need to take regarding a job, and for the possibility of fulfilling my childhood dream to teach? Your prayers are greatly appreciated!
I stand in agreement with you for all the kids returning to shcool. I have three beautiful grandchildren returning to school next week. One of which gave his heart to Jesus only this past week at VBS. Praise and thank you Lord! They will need God's ever protection during this coming year. Thank you for your prayer.
My grandson starts Middle (public)School in a few weeks. Please pray that he will stand strong (Dan.11:32) against peer pressure and will always remember where his Help comes from. My grandson's name is Timothy.
Thank you for praying.

I teach special needs children in Massachusetts. Thanks, Beth, for the 'shout out', and the prayers! Continue to pray for strength for us, as we are highly motivated in Sept, and lose energy as the year moves on and as our own families require more. It's a demanding job, but it is so rewarding! Keep those prayers coming all year!
my daughter started middle school this year. please pray for her. and my son is in 4th grade. thanks!!
Thank you for that beautiful prayer. If you don't mind, I will use it at least in part in prayer for my daughter who started high school this year. You are a blessing!
Please pray for my husband; that he will be encouraged and not overwhelmed, and given the tools he needs physically and spriritually to have a positive influence in the lives of his special education students.

I encourage any mamas who can to get involved in a moms in touch group for their kiddo's school (www.momsintouch.org). I prayed my 3 kids through college with other MITI moms; what an encouragement! thanks for the prayer, Amanda. I don't think you left anyone out.
My granddaughter Trinity started kindergarten last Thursday. Please pray that her excitement and enthusiasm for learning will continue. And pray for her mommy sending her firstborn to school.
We are just starting our very first year of homeschooling - my son is in kindergarten and my daughter is in preschool!!! It was a BIG day last week so I took photos and posted them on my blog here:
http://womenlivingwell-courtney.blogspot.com/2009/08/first-day-of-school-pictures.html
Thanks for your encouraging post - you reminded me to pray for all those other teachers out there including all those homeschooling mamas too!

My daughter, Hannah, is starting high school tomorrow, the 25th. She has high-functioning autism. She had a tough last year at middle school. Please pray that this will be a good year for her. She is VERY excited about going to high school.
Welcome back Little Momma!:)
Oh boy! Looking forward to your pics!:)
Lord, I pray for all the teachers and students in my district this year. From public to private and christian schools, You have placed your own to be salt and light in the world. To be in it, but not of it! I pray that those kids and teachers will be diligent to seek you everyday, knowing that they are there to reach out to those who need You so badly! I pray that they would show their peers a different way to live, and a love that can only come from You in them serving their peers. I pray also for my siesta, Bethany as she goes back to school, to a job she loves! I pray that her heart may be full of You as she serves those kids. May she know that for such a time as this she was placed in that school for an important reason. I pray for my nephews and my sisters, that they would continue in spiritual growth in school this year, and the ones that do not know You, would come to know you and not live in sin any longer. Use those who are Yours around them at school Lord! Glorify Yourself this year in our schools! In Your Precious, Holy Name, Amen!:)
Blessings, love in Him always, ((HUGS)) to you Little Momma:)

I am a home schooling momma of 2 boys that also works full time in our family business. Please pray for Jase, 6, and Carty David, 3, that they would obey and be excited to learn. Please pray that Jase will accept Christ's gift of salvation as soon as his heart is ready. Please pray for wisdom and patience for me as I try to teach them lovingly.
While I am not a public or private school teacher, I homeschool my son. Thank you, Siesta Mama, for remembering our dear children as they go to school and for the amazing men and women that do teach other peoples' children. It is a hard job - we all know that - and though this is our third year homeschooling, I worked at the school (both on the payroll and as a volunteer) the several years he was in public school. My son had amazing teachers that I am still in contact with...but I often forget to lift them up in my hurries to get myself prepared. Thank you again for the reminder! Love you!
Great idea Amanda! Beautiful prayers. This will be a great school year with all the siestas lifting up prayers!
Looking forward to seeing all the pictures from your vacation. Bet it was filled with laughter and hugs!
I have missed you too Beth! With thinking about "back to school", I think of my mom. She just sent her baby (of 6 kids) to college. He starts today. She has had children in her house for 31+ years. "Empty nest" is hitting her hard. Could we lift up these mothers (like Jenn too) who are looking at family life changes, the fleeting of time, and finding their identity in God alone? Praise God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow!
thanks for the reminder to pray!
Could you also spare a prayer for those of us with empty arms and longing hearts, who desparately wish we had children to send off to school?
Thanks
Amanda, thank you for thinking about this, it is such a bittersweet time of release for many. But, please add to your prayers all of the Siestas who wear the hat of "Home-school Mom". I laughingly call myself the accidental home-schooler...b/c I never dreamed I'd be doing this. This is just my second year; my oldest is beginning 3rd grade! Last year I thought we were doing this simply b/c we couldn't afford private school. This year I believe there's a little more to it.
I think God is using this, home-schooling adventure- to work things in and out of my heart as well as the heart of my child. Why didn't that occur to me last year? He always uses the most surprising things...like donkeys, shrubbery, still small whispers...why not home-schooling?
So, that shared, please pray for us too! Can I get an amen from the Home-schooling Siestas? Holla!
Missed you so much, Amanda! Welcome home!
Praying with you for the teachers (I taught for three years, and prayers sustained me for sure!!) and the kiddos too!
Dear Lord, Thank you so much for our teachers. Lord they have so much influence over our children. I pray revival over each teacher who is a Christian that You would just be so evident in his/her life that fellow teachers and students alike would just be beside themselves over not having You.
I pray for our students. That they would learn what You want them to learn. I pray that You will watch over their minds. Give each student peace, confidence, and courage.
Be with us as parents that we would give encouragement and love to each of them in their specific need and circumstance.
Thank you Lord for hearing our prayers. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen
I am a public university professor... please don't forget about college kids too - this generation is so extremely vulnerable but yet searching (praise you Jesus)!
Please pray for wisdom, wisdom and more wisdom for us. Also discernment and favor. May we be a picture of peace and love, fill our hearts with compassion oh Lord Jesus!
Thank you so much for the prayers!
amen.
I have lots here!
My first born is starting her first day of College Today. Having your children come of age is soooooo much harder than raising them. Its painful! She has already moved out with 4 friends who are sharing an appartment. Needless to say, they are living like your average freshmen in college. I wont get off on a tangent, but believe me, I have soaked my pillow every night since crying out to the LORD.
My second born is a Sophmore in H.S. this year she is working on all advanced classes.
My third born started Middle School.
Let me tell you, school is NOT what it used to be. My children have already been exposed to sex, violence, and drugs thanks to the school culture, its RAMPANT on the bus, and in the school. I just pray every day that they will have the heart and determination that Daniel did! So far so good!
Then there's my little preschooler, he is only 4! He has Autism and is starting his second year of developmental preschool. Last year was a bit rough, but I am looking forward to a new year and a NEW TEACHER for him. Yeah! Thank You Lord!
Then there's me! I run a liscensed daycare in my home, and we start our preschool curriculm tommorow! Lots to do!
BIG REQUEST: I want to show all the children Jesus! The door is so wide open now with the tragic death of one of our precious daycare children who drowned in a boating accident. Please LORD let these precious little one experience you through me!
Thank you for your prayers. My daughter is entering High School and my son is entering Middle School. We've been praying like maniacs!
Hi Amanda! I am a homeschooler of two! I started school this morning. I have a special needs little boy and his older sister that I commit most of my day to teaching. It has been a good morning thus far. We are taking a needed lunch break right now and then returning to the books. They are only 7 and 9, both needing individual and joint attention. It can be challenging, but I know that God will teach them so much about themselves and Him this year. They are our little spiritual warriors of tomorrow and they need all the encouragement they can get. Thank you for your special prayers for all of our children, public, private and homeschoolers alike. Peace, -JH
And we've missed all of you! Glad to hear you were able to get away and relax with your precious family.
Praying over each of my children before they head out the door to school has been one of the best decisions I ever made. When my oldest left home, we hardly knew what to do because we could no longer embrace and pray every morning together in person! But even though he's in college now, he takes great comfort in knowing that I'm praying for him back home. My high schooler wants me to pray with her before she leaves for swim practice at 5 in the morning, so I do. My middle schooler and grade schooler both appreciate my prayers too and are quick to remind me if we somehow get too busy. When we do fail to squeeze it in on any given morning, then I just make sure and pray for them on my own when the house is quiet.
God bless all you teachers out there!! Every time I visit one of my kids' schools, I walk out and thank God for you, especially those of you who are teaching with the love of Jesus in your heart!
So excited for the simulcast this weekend!
My middle daughter is struggling to get back in our homeschool routine. Please pray for a willing spirit for her and wisdom for me! We're ramping things up a bit this year since the girls are older, so we all need some prayer.
Praise HIS name !
How this mama needed this post today. Isn't it wild how God cares enough to encourage through a blog ?! Yes ma'm comfort to my heart - thanks !
Today, my son started his 1st day of 7th grade. He has been homeschooled up until now, so a big adjustment for ALL of us. :)
The school is a wonderful Christian school, and he knows some of the kids already. He is a young 7th grader (11) but very mature.

Thank you for this post. Also I want to mention for HOMESCHOOL. I have been a stay at home mom for 4 1/2 years now. I remember just last year thinking ok My little girl is going to school soon and then it will be just me and my little boy (he is 3! which means they are 14 mths apart) Most mommys know how hard it is to stay home! So my flesh was praying that I would have to just stay home with my son and then the next year he too would go to school and finally i can paint my bathroom and finally get some cleaning done and maybe I could relax a little too! Boy was I wrong!! God has called me to homeschool!! No body in my family or husbands family had done this so this was BIG. So i do ask for prayers because I am learning as much as I can now, because in April, my little girl will turn 5. Little did I know, I have already began homeschooling both my 4 and 3yr old now. Setting the foundation of prayer time every morning and bible stories has everything to do with school. Since GOD is in EVERYTHING! Thanks for letting me share too. I will also pray for the public schools, teachers and children's education and even what they are learning.
God Bless!
In HIS Service,
April Lyon
I have homeschooled my three kids for 10 years and in two weeks, they will all be heading off to school for the first time...
My Junior to the local high school and my 5th and 8th graders to a Christian school. I am so excited for them and know it's "blossoming time" for them...I so appreciate your praying for all of us as we trust God through this transition.
Amanda, this post will be a blessing to MANY...your sensitivity to the Spirit is a beautiful thing! :)
Traci
Please pray for my son entering the 7th grade. 6th grade for him was a nightmare for him because he was bullied and he is so anxious about the new year. He is so bright and positive in the face of his trials, but I can see it wearing on his personality. I sure would love for him to connect with good friends this year.
My sweet girl should be starting kindergarten this year, but due to some delays she will be starting a special needs program in which, we pray, she will learn to overcome her social, speech & communtication delays and learn to survive in a classroom setting. She has been in a half day Pre-K program for two years but this will be a full day program. PLEASE pray for her adjustment, that she will get the help she needs, for us to be her strong advocates, for guidance as her parents and her prayer warriors. And, please, please, please pray for her voice to be released - I would like nothing more than to have a conversation with my 5YO child, please pray that she finds herself in this new program and can learn to effectively communicate.
And, please join us in praying for her teachers and those who will be involved in her care.
Thank you SO much!
Becky Jo
PS - I wrote a post this morning about the community that y'all have created here. I do not know if you had any idea how very MUCH this group of siestas would end up meaning to each other. Thank you for following His leading and for allowing these bonds and TRUE friendships to begin and flourish!
LOVE you ladies!
Please for my sister Sarah - she's a junior in college on a secular campus. I'm praying that loose ties she has with campus ministries will grow this year and that she'll make new Christian friends. She's a good girl who's interested in God but I'm praying He'll just wamboozle her!
Amen Amanda,
My youngest daughter is in her second year of college. I pray that she is surround by godly people in an ungodly environment.

Welcome back, I have missed the blog like crazy! I have a Senior in HS and twins in 8th grade, all boys. Also, a 20 year old son who is taking a semester off from college after two difficult, frustrating years at our huge university in town. Please pray for him specifically to have wisdom in making choices where and if to transfer colleges that will help him to best succeed as a student.
thanks, thanks, thanks.
Eva in Knoxville, TN
My daughter began 7th grade on August 17th. We can already tell that we will be facing some incredible challenges. She is in a public charter school that she attends three days a week and then works at home the other two. I teach her while at home. That makes me a teacher, I guess. The hardest part is watching her tackle what appear to be enormous mountains. I mean, really, Algebra, 7th grade? I don't remember even doing pre-algebra until I got into high school.
We also deal with a tough health issue and two little girls running around. It is going to take a lot to keep us going this year. We are already tired and it has only been one week. Yikes!
As far as prayer goes, I agree with your prayer. Thank you. now, back to math...
Kels
How fitting. I just sent my firstborn to 10th grade after many years of homeschooling. Still crying, but clinging to my siesta verses which God preplanned for me in this season. Thanks for the sweet prayers for me and my son.
My daughter is a teacher. Her children go to the same school. I was a teacher as well as my grandmother and both of my husband's parents. It's extremely challenging more so now than ever.
This year my grandson started 1st grade and feels very "big". (I kept him most of his first year so...I cried!)
He has been in their system since 18 mo of age. His little 19 mo old sister started the 18+ mo group this last week. Yes, in this particular school they actually have some lessons - very creative! Lots of play too. However, she is almost traumatized and I cried of course, but would have cried anyway! (I kept her part time her first year.)
Big problem right now - since starting school no one but Elijah is sleeping at night. Lots & lots & lots & MORE lots of crying!!! Willa will be asleep and jerk...wide awake, screaming for her Mama. She's feeling very insecure and doesn't sleep more than 1 or 2 hours at a time - if that long, then she's up screaming and clinging. She adores her Dad, but it's her Mama she's clinging to. My daughter is making it on about 4+/-hours combined through the night. My sweet son-in-law tries to help but she wants "Mama!
I kept her one day last week b/c we felt she was just getting more and more worked up. (Good grief, she's not even 2 years old!) She asked for her Mama but I kept assuring her she would be back. That sweet little darling finally was able to fall asleep and she slept over 3 hours. She woke up in a wonderful mood.
THANK YOU for the prayer on the blog; my sweet baby girl whose name is now "Mama", her husband and her babies needs it for many reasons.
My girls have been out of school for a few years now, but my baby is in the midst of another first -- she just got engaged! I wrote about it and posted a pic on my blog if you'd like to take a peek. All prayers for our upcoming wedding planning appreciated!
We don't start for a few more days but I will have a First Grader and a Kindergartner. And that leave my youngest home alone all dday with Dad. I, of course, worry about them ALL!! I pray that the first grader will continue to get the attention he needs from the teacher to be challenged and enjoy school, that my kindergartner will be able to handle full days after having NO preschool at all and given is love of chatting. And pray that the time solo with Dad will be a great experience for my 18 month old and that they don't simply drive each other crazy alll day!
As a former teacher I can really appreciate this post! As a current mom of a new kindergartner starting in 2 weeks, I have a different perspective for sure!
I have yet another angle as a step-mom of two, Haley 14 and Adam 11, who have moved with their mom so they could be closer to their Dad. They will be adjusting to new schools and having their "other" family within striking distance.
Please pray for all of us--the kids as they adjust to everything, especially school, their mom as she gets used to a new job far away from her family in Colorado, their dad as he does his best to be Daddy to his big ones and his little ones and husband to me, the step-mom as she tries to balance step-kids and their mom, my kids and my husband with patience, grace and love. Thanks!
Oh my word, I can't say thank you enough to those who would raise a prayer on behalf of my kids.
We just moved to a new state so not only is my daughter starting middle school, but there's not a shred of anything even remotely familiar for her to take comfort in. And she's still dealing with her anger over having to move and the loss of all her good friends from back home.
My son has started 4th grade. He was nervous this morning but I'm hoping and praying his teachers will be nice and he'll make some good friends too.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Melanie
We need school prayers! God has led us to homeschool, and this morning my sweet firstborn, Breanna, started Kindergarten. I didn't anticipate being this emotional about it, considering she's not even leaving the house!! But I am...
And I am also terribly insecure concerning my role as her teacher! She deserves the best of everything, and yet she has a very, very flawed mother educating her.
Oy...we definitely need prayers!!
Please pray for my granddaughter, Trinity, who started 3rd grade last week. A few days before that, her "Papa" (her mom's father) passed away very suddenly in Oklahoma. This is her second loss -- Trinity's daddy, our oldest son, died when she was only 3 of an accidental drug overdose. Now she lives with a momma who has depression, and 2 twin brothers who are 5 (they were 3 months old when they daddy died). Their life is so hard!! I have prayed for Trinity's teacher all summer, that she would get just the perfect teacher to be a godly example to her. The twins will be in a wonderful Christian pre-K program, where they'll be loved on and taught about Jesus. Please pray for this sweet little family, that God will be HUGE in their lives this year!
A prayerful Grandma
Oh amanda, I can't tell you how much I have missed this blog. I hope your family had a great time of relaxation and just plain fun. Can't wait to see the pictures!
I am a paraeducator in an inner city school. We are starting our 3rd week. It is truly my mission field. So many kids (600 K-5th) and so many who are so needy for someone to show them they are not trash. I pray God can give me the heart of one who sees each of these kids through his eyes. Enough love for each and everyone and enough wisdom to know I can't take them all home with me. They are so precious and loveable. It's sad that only a small portion know it.
Pray for my son Zach. It is his senior year and he chose to change schools this year due to a move within the city. Pray God will put some good friends in his life and he will be able to discern which friendships to invest in. Wisdom to make the right choices.
Thanks for praying for our year. I can' wait for this weekend's Simulcast!
Jan
Please pray for my sweet girl, Lindsey. She is in third grade. Battles fear and anger -- has all of her young life of 8 years. Battled it strongly during the summer months -- right before asking Jesus into her heart. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Just having a tough time with her emotions and her attitude lately.
Amanda -- such a tender heart to think of this! Thank you.
Praying for the Simulcast this weekend. I'm neckdeep in plans as the coordinator for Thompson Station Church in Tennessee. But we are expecting God to do amazing things in the lives of the women there this weekend.
Blessings,
Dori
P.S. Guess I should ask for prayer for my 8th grade boy, too! Next year? High School!!
And yes, it was just yesterday that I was rocking him to sleep singing "His eyes are always upon you. His eyes never close in sleep and no matter where you go you will always be in His eyes."
(tears)
Blessings,
Dori
My sweet Cali is starting kindergarten at a public school in a couple of weeks. She attended Christian Preschool and we are making this choice with our eyes wide open and our knees bent in prayer. We ask for protection over her vulnerable heart and for boldness as she shares Jesus with her new friends.
Please pray for my daughter who is entering 5th grade. Her school closed down and the kids are being funneled into 2 different schools. She will be without her friends as they are going to the other school. Pray for courage, peace, joy, new friends and that she would be a light.
I'd love prayers for my daughters, both college students...the oldest starting her senior year. How did this happen?? I was just sending her to kindergarten.
I echo the commenter who encouraged moms to look for (or start) a moms in touch group in their school. You and your child will be blessed as will the teachers and other students in your school.
Amanda, this was beautiful and my cousin/bff Melissa is a school teacher and school started today!!! So I know she really needs the prayers!!! Thank you!!
Thank you for your prayers Amanda! Jenn, I'm praying for you and your son today.
Pray for my older daughter, she started college last week. My younger daughter is a Junior this year. She is a high functioning autistic, attending public school. She's had a difficult time making friends. Please pray for her to keep making progress and that God would bless her with the godly relationships she longs to have.
My two oldest grandchildren just started back up at the closest public school for them and it is on Indian Reservation. They are first and second grade and love going to their school, but it is a very l o n g day for them because of the bus route. They get on the bus just before 6:30 a.m. and get home a little before 4 p.m. Thanks! By reading the responses so far, I am reminded that we are always learning, and as Christians, growing up in Him. Proverbs 15:14 (NLT) says: "A wise person hungers for truth, while the fool feeds on trash." Lord, may all of our students be hungry for truth and have the wisdom to discern the truth. May the teachers that belong to you be careful with the knowledge that they pass on to others, and give them the strength and energy and all they need to teach truth and stay away from the lesser things (trash). Amen.
My sweet 12 year old girl started Middle School (6th grade)this morning. None of her dear friends from elementary school are going to the same middle school as her. So, new school, new friends, block schedule to get down, etc. She left this morning very anxious.
Thank you for your prayers for Cecily!
Jennifer
This is so thoughtful Amanda. Thank you for remembering all of us in education. I am a parent educator with the Parents as Teachers program in our district. My husband works about 1 1/2 hours away this year because of budget cuts to our district. So, this will be a new job to him and a new schedule for myself and my three kiddos. My oldest just started high school last week so this is also a "new" this year. I have every child in a different building this year with my husband off in his own new job, only coming home twice a week. It's hard, but we sure would appreciate the prayers.
Thanks again for your thoughtfulness!!
Anne in MO
All three of my children just started the year at a brand new school, the new launch of a Christian school. Pray for my kids and for the teachers and administration and provision as they try to start something to bless many generations to come.
ALso for my littlest, starting kindergarten, again. She tried for a couple months last year, and they just weren't ready for the whirlwind which is my daughter. :) We are trying again a year later, their second week of school this week, and so far so good.
Blessings to all the little ones with eager faces and fresh backpacks....and to all the teachers that impact hearts more than we can imagine.
Thank you Amanda, for this post...oh, how we need to be praying for the students (of all ages), teachers, professors, and all involved in the care and education of our precious children.
I am praying for so many as I read through these posts, and am requesting your prayers as well, siestas. My husband and I just moved this summer to a new city, and our children will be starting school on Thursday (I know, it's an odd day to start...); please pray for our daughter Dennika as she enters Grade 2, and our son Carter as he begins school with his first day of kindergarten - at a school that is over three times larger than the good-sized school that our daughter attended last year. Thank you all so much.
Please pray for my son, Jace, who entered High School this morning. I keep reminding myself, he was God's before he was mine. I am so thankful for that boy! I was only 4 years older than him, when I had him. God has used this precious son, to drive me straight to HIS SON.
I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him till that day! Amen Amen!
Thank you so much...love you all,
Amy jo
Almost forgot...please pray for my little man...4th grader today!
And I am still in prayer for your need that you mentioned last week. GOD is able. He is working.
Thanks again,
Amy jo
Amanda-
Thanks so much for the prayers and the avenue to shout out a few more!
My firstborn started college last week (when did that happen!) and the younger three started school this morning.
My second is taking on a lot of AP courses as a junior in HS, she is on the overachiever pathway and needs prayer for stress and sleep.
My sweet first boy will be a freshman in high school, can I just sit on that thought a moment, as a six month old baby he had a lot of development problems and the drs. told us to prepare for a child that would never walk. Can I tell you how big our God is, My Jackson walks has played water polo, cross country and manages "regular" school on his own. He does have learning issues but he will be just fine, he is a little quirky, but his older sisters, spent a lot of time with him making sure he would be just right for his first day of high school, bless their hearts! God is good and I am overwhelmed by his mercies, I never imagined this day!
Finally my youngest, also a boy started in first day of his last year in elementary school, and get this, he didn't want me to walk with him because he was going with the guys!! I had a little pity party for myself, but really he is such a good boy and "the guys" are good boys too!
So I pray for all the mamas and teachers and crosing guards and bus drivers out there, may we all reflect God's Glory to all we meet and be shining example of His Love to all the mamas babies going to school this year.
please lift up our former foster son. he is living w/his biological family again. his mother is still on drugs and he is sharing a bedroom w/2 other adults. he started a new school today and already got kicked out on the first day. please lift him up. we miss him so much and all we can do is pray that God will be with him in his unstable environment. i know he's hurting and acting out. he really needs our prayers. thank you so very much.
AMEN,
So well done!!
Thank you, Amanda for these tho'ts today. There aren't too many of us that this 'return to school' doesn't effect in some way! Our daughter is a teacher in So. California and her 15 yo sophomore and 11 yo 6th grader go back to school this Wednesday. I know they'll both do great, but I'm sure their tummies will be full of butterflies for the next couple of days!
It's obvious that classes are getting ready to begin here in Aggieland, too!! The stores are full of parents & kids picking up that last minute 'stuff' for their dorms and apt. It's great to see all the enthusiasm! The excitement notch went up 100 fold on Sunday afternoon!! We love being here to see it.
Hugs to all you Moms!
What a wonderful idea, Amanda! I taught school for 4 years before becoming a SAHM and I know how trying the first days and weeks can be for everyone. I'm also not looking forward to sending my oldest to school in 2 years. I just know I'll be one of the moms who cries on the way out to the car. Trust me, there are many of them. :)
Please pray for my sister. Today is her first day at Liberty University. She is 9 hours from home (my parents' 4 other kids-myself included-didn't go more than 3 hours away for college.) So pray for her as she adjusts to a new school, new state, and long distance from the family and pray for my parents in this adjustment too.
Thank you for your sweet prayer! My oldest started kindergarten today, and it is a blessing to know how many are praying....
My daughter starts kindergarden this year, she is my only child so I am sad to see the preschool years of my mothering career over so soon. On the other hand my ears will get a much needed break!
Thank you Beth! My darling little first grade g'daughter got the "mean" teacher. Have been praying for all of them. - Sandy
My youngest is starting 6th grade at a brand new middle school. The school is a Christian school but as we all know they aren't perfect. She is nervous and so am I. Middle school is hard in the best of circumstances. Please pray for peace for both of us! Tx,
I am soooooo happy to hear from you again, especially with such an awesome post, so fitting for today.
Please know you all were greatly missed.
Father God I come into agreement with Amanda's prayer for this school year for teachers, pupils and parents.
I also Lord offer you this homeschool year for you to have your way with. You know of the struggles and triumphs of last year and the hopes and prayers for this year. That we would-as mom and kids, teacher and students and a family as a whole draw nearer to you in every aspect of our life. That You would hold the highest place in our days and lives.
Teach us new ways to love you, to love others, to love ourselves.
Lord I am so grateful for you in my life and my family. Thank you for gently leading me down the path you have chosen for me. Thank you for the continued grace to come to you in my strenghth and weekness. I love you Lord and trust you with this precious family of mine and with my own fragile heart.
I have triplets and they started junior high back on the 13th. Been a little nerve wracking for me and have dreaded all summer-but so far and I do mean so far we are making it... I have a daughter and 2 sons-my first son is still nervous about his locker and such and my other son is Austic and at another school-but so far doing great there-my daughter been disappointed about some things already but I just pray that I can be the mom for them with encouragement and learning the process of letting go on some things and teach them to do more for themselves. Thanks.
My twins started kindergarten this year. Please pray for them as they adjust to school. Also, my son, Caden, is feeling overwhelmed by 5th grade. Please pray for peace, a great attitude, and an excitement for learning in him. Finally, for me as I adjust to being home w/o any kids and for God to make his plans for me this year clear. Thanks for thinking of this Amanda! So glad you had a nice time away.
~Kristin
Here is a verse I am clinging to for this start of the year.
"Don't worry about anything;
INSTEAD, PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING.
Tell God what you need,
and THANK HIM FOR ALL HE HAS DONE.
Then you will experience God's PEACE,
which exceeds anything we can understand.
His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:6-7 NLT

I am a teacher. Please pray that I will see my students as God sees them. Sometimes it is easy to think of those difficult students as "trouble makers." However, there is a reason they have been placed in my classroom. I yearn to see them through His eyes, but I must admit that it is difficult to do so at times. I want to be the light of Jesus not only to all of my students but to other members of my faculty as well. I have adopted the lyrics of Brandon Heath's song "Give Me Your Eyes" as my daily prayer.
Give me your eyes for just one second.
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing.
Give me your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the brokenhearted,
Ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten.
Give me your eyes that I may see.
We have 2 more weeks before school starts. My son had to change schools last year when we moved. He had such a hard time. He loved his school and to leave was very hard for both of us. He will start 3rd grade in 2 weeks, but still misses his old school. Please pray for him and all those that have had to change schools. It is sooooo hard on them to leave their friends and the familiar. Hang in there moms - God has a watchful eye over them all!!!
We started last Wens. and my new- to-middle-schooler ate lunch alone 2 days in a row. Please pray for a Godly friend & one for my 8th grader as well.
A huge praise for the 3rd grader - last year started with crying all the way home - but this year friends are in the same class (lunch & recess together).
Oh we want so much for each of them, Lord help us to be faithful to all the opportunities You provide - and we'll give You the glory for every bit. Thank You for your unending mercy to us parents!
Praying for all the homeschool siestas out there - currently schooling; not, but considering it; and homeschooled, but sent kids off into the "mission field."
I will be starting my 6th year of homeschooling in a few weeks - 6th grade, 5th grade, 2nd grade and K, along with a 13 month old to take care of. I need God's wisdom and strength for the long days. I LOVE TO HOMESCHOOl, but I'm so tired at the end of each day. Pray for God's strength to "mount up with wings like eagles" each day. May this year be one of success for all the students and teachers out there - public, private and homeschooled.

My baby (4) started Transitional Kindergarten on Thursday at a new school ... and, I started with her as a preschool teacher's assistant - an absolute first for me. My background before staying at home was as an assistant manager of a credit union. Big difference. You won't waste a prayer on our family. Also, my oldest is starting 2nd grade and crushed her best friend is in a different class. This child doesn't like change so the mornings are already hard.
Thanks, Amanda!
Please pray for my granddaughter Alexis as she is entering her freshman year in a new school. I pray for her to have Christian friends. Also, my grandson, Tyler as he is entering his senior year and has moved in with his dad. This is a blessing and our granddaughter Lauren, as she enters college. Pray for her safety and continued walk with the Lord. Thank you.
I don't real count for this post. I homeschool our five kids and this is our second full year. My oldest is starting high school online at home. She was going to go to real high school, but asked for one more year at home. As it turns out, she will be going to India on her first missions trip...something we could not have done if she was in regular school. The PS to my prayer request is the money part. Homeschooling isn't free. I know He will provide, I just like the idea of a chorus of Sieta's chiming in too! Thanks for letting me add in my request!
My firstborn started high school this morning. Thankfully, he is surounded by a great group of Christian boys, but I can't get over the fact that, just four short years from now, it will be college. Please pray for his younger brother as well. He is in 8th grade and really struggles socially. I am praying for God to surround him with the same kind of boys his brother has been blessed with.
aahhh your back.
I've missed you.
Becky
I have a feeling this will be a long post! Our kids started school on August 13. As a third grade teacher, I started on 8/11. Please pray that I will be a godly example to my students, and that I will effectively teach them what they need to know for "THE TEST" as well as life! Teaching school can be life teaching Sunday School, because often the only moral training that kids get is through the public school.
Please also pray for my children. My daughter is a senior this year. Please pray that she will continue to be a godly example to her friends and teachers. My son is a sophomore. I really do not think he knows the Lord, although he made a profession of faith as a young child. Please pray for his salvation, his commitment to school, and that he would make wise choices. My other son is in the 7th grade. Please pray that he continues to follow Christ, and not get sidetracked by worldly choices. Thank you so much for this post!
I appreciate this blog post so much! Last Monday, August 17th was my FIFTEENTH 1st day of Kindergarten (Public School). I LOVE what I do, and I believe it is my calling. The Lord has gifted me to be able to teach and love 24 five year olds every school year. Please pray for the stinky stuff that some of my five year olds have to deal with, every year I have kids who are greatly affected by their parents poor choices.
On another note, I can't wait for the simulcast! I am ready for a WORD via SIESTA MAMA! I pray that you have a good week as you prepare for the simulcast Beth.
Love you gals,
Noel

Our youngest daughter starts kindergarten tomorrow and the other two are in 2nd and 4th grade. I pray that our girls have a joy filled first day with much peace.
Thank you,
Nicole
Please remember to pray for those of us who are homneschooling moms, too. It requires a great deal of discipline and structure to balance schooling and housework, and there's an awful lot of internal stress for me about being certain I'm covering everything I need to with my children. My son has to learn how to hold a pencil and read this year! My daughter is a second grader, but reading far above that. How do I determine what books will challenge her but still be age appropropriate? Pray that God will guide us in this process. I know that if He has called me to do it, He will also equip me. But it's easy to get overwhelmed. Please pray, too, that I'll be disciplined with my time. I have to follow a schedule very closely in order to fit everything in, and maintain order in our home.
Thank you!
Please pray for my grandchildren. My oldest grandson started high school, the next grandson started middle school and a granddaughter in 4th. I have my youngest in another state being home schooled starting kindergarten. The oldest three are from a broken home and I'm praying for godly teachers and friends? They are not in church and need Christian people to care and to reach out to all of them! Please pray for them and their parents. Thank you for your prayer support and your service for our Lord!
My one and only child started high school last week. I cannot believe my "baby boy" is already in high school. How I pray for him to grow and become the godly man that God created and designed him to be. Oh Father, help my son to make good choices and to be a leader amongst his peers. Give him wisdom beyond his youth as he develops his character and integrity. Give me patience with him and help me to guard my tongue in my frustrations so that I am speaking life into him. Help me to be a "healer" in all situations concerning him. Oh Dear God, I get only one chance to do this thing. PLEASE HELP ME TO DO IT RIGHT IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS!!
Thanks for the third greatest gift you have ever given me!!
1. Jesus
2. My husband
3. My son
Blessings in abundance to every family and household associated with this blog and ministry!
mom of son 3rd college/apartment this time/other son graduated from college looking for his interview w/a christian company this friday
amanda..your words were HS led/written and i will print and pray back on behald of me/those posted so far and for the "empty arms" i am praying harder for you..9 years before my lst born (w/2 miscarriages before then)
John 11:40
may we see the glory of God
"Lord,
We lift up our students, teachers, administrators, parents and everyone involved in the education of your children. Please help moms and grandma's to unite together in prayer through Mom's- in-Touch or some other way they can stay connected to pray for their schools. Thank You for those special people we call "teachers." I pray for my grandson who just started kindergarten. Help him and all of your children to be a witness for You, Jesus. In Your blessed name we pray, Amen."
My son started his 3rd year at collage. please help me pray for him as he continues that he will:
Focus on his relationship with the Lord.
Focus on his studies more than he has the past two yrs.
use his time and money wisely. Thanks ya'll
RS
Please pray for my two grandchildren. Both are in kindergaretn. Bryan started today and Abigail started last week.
THANKS!
My family has recently moved to a new state after being "home" for 7 years. My husband is in the military and this is our first move since our daughter was born. We were blessed to be near my family for those 7 years so this move has been especially difficult. Our daughter has started 1st grade this year away from her friends and her precious Nanna and Pappy and it has been a difficult transition. She is adjusting well but has moments of intense sorrow and grief and the only thing we can do is hold her and pray. Thank you for your prayers for her as well as for all the other children who are in similar situations.
What a timely post. Thank you, thank you.
Please pray for my oldest son Michael who is entering high school today. It is my prayer that he would know that he can be unique and radical and totally in love with Jesus Christ.
I am so thankful for you.
Michelle
Pray for my youngest daughter, 16, entering 10th grade. She has a calling on her life for missions/orphanage work. I pray that she maintains that eternal focus in the midst of all the teen years angst and distractions.
I am excited to be a part of this blog. My beautiful granddaughter Kirsten started school this year. Her very words were "ITS SO AWESOME" nana Angie.
My Daughter was in tears, still is! But my little Angel did great, she was such a big girl.
Would you please remember my daughter Jennifer, and my baby
Kirsten. MAY GODS BLESSINGS SURROUND OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR COUNTRY. THANKS, ANGELA
Another homeschooling mama here. Please pray for God to grace us with more patience, wisdom and grace to share in abundance than we could ever anticipate. Exceedingly, abundantly. Right here. Right now.
Lord I echo these prayers and add a prayer also for the homeschooling mothers and fathers and their children. Please give those mothers grace and wisdom. Multiply their rest as they manage households and teach at the same time. Give extra measure of love for the moms who are schooling older children and caring for babies. Most importantly, give rest and energy and health to the mothers who are doing all of these things and carrying a precious babe in their womb. Keep them in the Word and fill them with Your love that they could then pour it out to their children. Strengthen these marriages. Bind them together with chords of love that cannot be broken. Finally, please protect the rights of all parents in this country to school their children in the way that God directs them. Thank you for your love and for your good gifts. I love you Father.
My baby girl starts kindergarten in 2 weeks.
My two boys are 5th and 8th grade and have made the change from public school to a new charter school. Thanks for the prayer! It meant so much. I feel this is going to be a very positive move but still a little anxious about all the changes. I can't wait to pick them up and hear all about their day!
My younger two started last week.
my daughter is a Jr.and my son 8th grade.
Please help me pray for them that they will keep the Lord in their thoughts all through each day, and not neglect their time with Him. That my daughter will not be so neg. and keep seeing the glass as half empty.
That they both will do their best and not get involved or give into the teenage pressures that are out there.
Thanks Siestas
Becky
My son Peter is entering Kindergarten this year, at our local public school. He did a couple days a week at a 4k last year, and loved it, but it was a smaller atmosphere.
We have is orientation this thursday, and I am hoping and praying that he won't get overwhelmed by the size of the building. Right now he is excited. It's his MOMMY that's nervous. Last year, I could come in with him and had to sign him in and out... this year, not the case. I am not talking about my nerves in front of him, and am trying to hide my anxiety. I am not "sad" at him going to school. I am happy because I know it will be so good for him. But I will be much less anxious once the routine is established and we are all settled into getting up early in the morning. (did i mention I am not a morning person?!)
(we got up early this morning and i think we all are tired)
Thanks so much for all your prayers for all of us. what a blessing.
Heather
I am staying home this year to be with our preschooler after 10 years of teaching. My oldest has started a new school today because of that. I praise God for the brave face he put on and the fear that was not there. Thank you for your prayers.
Please pray for my son who will be entering middle school this year. He is on the autism spectrum and is a very spirited child and has a sweet heart. I pray that this is a good school year...last year was not and I am a bit anxious (but I am pressing Phil 4:6 to my forehead and urging myself to let go).
Also, I ask for prayers for my sweet niece who will be in 7th grade this year and is having issues with "mean girls". I pray she makes friends this year with girls who are Godly, kind, and compassionate.
Thank you!
My oldest little boy started kindergarten a few weeks ago in Auburn, AL. The prayers are so appreciated.
We are also so excited about being with you all at the Simulcast this weekend at our church, AUMC. We can't wait!
What a beautiful prayer for our teachers and students. Gave me opportunity to pray for my son who is a teacher/coach in Missouri, my son and daughter-in-law who home school their children in Alabama, all the teachers in the school system where I work, and all the students that will cross their paths. Thanks for sharing! What an awesome responsibility and opportunity that teachers have! We definitely need to remember them and the students in prayer!
Please pray for my son who is a junior this year and is doing all of his classes online this year. This is very hard for him due to he is a very outgoing person but due to circumstances outside our control we feel this is the best thing for him this year. Please pray that God will use this time with him to develop a deeper passion for Christ and His Word in my son's heart. I in turn will be praying for all of our teachers, administrator, bus drivers, lunchroom workers and students this year. I will also be adding in a little extra prayer for all of the first time students and moms this year. Wow its great to be a part of such an awesome group of Siestas knowing that we all are in one mind and one accord helping to accomplish His purposes through prayer!
My baby starts pre-k tomorrow. I hope the teacher is ready =) I would appreciate prayers that he would be obedient and that he would make friends.
School here where I live in Canada has not started yet but for some it will be next week. I would like prayer for 3 of my grnachildren who will be starting school in a new city, they are moving to a different province and so don't know anyone yet at the school they will be attending. The youngest of them is starting kindergarten as well. Thanks for your prayers.
My 6 year old prince, Ray, starts Kindergarten this Thursday. He's excited and so anxious to be there, and as his momma, I wish I could say I was as ecstatic as he is but, well, that would be a lie. My 4 year old princess, Madi, starts preschool on the 15th of September. I know they will be fine but this year just somehow feels different......maybe because I see them developing so much of their own personalities and it's just another reminder that they are only entrusted to my care and aren't really mine in the first place. Funny how as mom's we can give up every dream we've ever had to God's will......but our babies.....that just always seems like a totally different story.
I would appreciate prayers for my four...oldest daughter a senior in high school who isn't quite sure what direction to go after that, oldest son in 8th grade, such a tender hearted boy who thinks of others before himself and smart as a whip...wants to be a sports doctor so that he can go on medical missions to needy places in the world, my youngest boy going into 3rd grade...this is the year when the rubber meets the road and he is very nervous, and finally my precious baby girl who starts 2nd grade this year..she is a real spitfire and we are waiting for her to really understand having a relationship with the Lord...praying this is the year!
Also one last thing.. a friend of my daughters who has been homeschooled all her life has chosen a state-run college to attend this year and is having a lot of difficulty...it is so hard for those leaving the shelter of home and church family...please pray that she finds a true friend there and can be courageous in the midst of the world. Thanks for the prayers and for lifting up our teachers especially!
TODAY was my little guy's FIRST day of preschool. he was so excited and i let him pick out the clothes he wanted to wear, we laid them out last night in preparation for this morning.
it's amazing how the time has just flown by. i liked how it was phrased in my mom-to-mom class last year. "the days can sometimes creep by but the years fly by!'. it's so true, especially when they are babies. today is the start of many many years of school. he's no longer mine during the school days anymore. it's sad but also a proud moment too. bittersweet is the word i'm looking for!
he starts kindergarten next year.
he loved it and while i was wanting to snap photos of him entering he was really 'done' with the mommy-shots and just wanted to get into his excited classroom!
Please pray for my two college girls and 4th grade daughter, that they will remain strong in Christ and continue to grow in Him each day. In particular, please pray for our middle daughter, that God would speak very clearly to her about decisions and that she would be able to listen and hear and know what is the will of God each day she wakes up. I guess that would be the prayer for all of us, wouldn't it? Also (sorry this is long)...I lost my dear sister Heather to breast cancer this past November and her two dear little ones Jack, age 5 (just started kindergarden) and Julia, who begins 3rd grade this year are without their Mommy this time around to take them to school. Their Daddy takes good care of them, but he doesn't know Jesus. Please pray he accepts Him into his life, so he can find peace and know how to raise the kids for Christ and maybe someday find a Christian gal to help raise them. Last I want to thank you Beth, Amanda, and Melissa for saying "yes" to Christ in your lives. He is everything to me...and it just warms my heart to read your blog entries...they are a refreshment for the soul and a positive addition to my day. Love in Christ, Lee
My neighbor is a kindergarten teacher and she had a not-so-good year last year. Please pray for her to have a much better year this time around.
This is the first year in 25 years I have not sent a child to school. My youngest graduated from college in May. Heads up, young Moms-it goes by quickly!
My older daughter is a public elementary school librarian, so I do so appreciate the prayers for our educators as they strive to be salt and light to the next generation.
As we pray, let's remember that for most schools this year there are tremendous budget constraints due to the economy, which will cause more stress for the teachers as they try to do their jobs.
My son has autism spectrum disorder and will be starting at middle school in two weeks. He has a new school and a new team of teachers and specialists. God has been faithful and merciful and gracious to Colin. We have every confidence He will continue to bless our child . . . but it still makes this mom a little unsettled.
Hey Amanda!!
We homeschool our children. Our almost 5 year old is entering Kindergarten this year, already reading(Praise God)!! I have a 10th grader who is a bit of a challenge this year and a 7th grader (they are both doing Beth Moore Bible Studies this year for their Bible curriculum.)
I just pray that my son (7th grader) keeps his heart that he has towards the Lord. My 10th grader needs the Lord in a deep way. She is saved, but needs to let the Word change her! My 5 year old loves the Lord and His Word. He just needs patience!! (as does his mother!!)
Thank you for your prayers!!
My kids do not start until Sept. 8 but please pray for them. My daughter, Claire, is going into 4th grade at a new school (due to boundary changes); and my son, Dan, will be in 8th grade at the middle school.
I ask for prayers for Jesus' guiding hands this year. That they make good choices and keep up on their homework. I pray for Dan to come to be tenderhearted by God as he enters his last year of confirmation.
Thank you and blessings to all,
Mary Ann, Woodbury, MN
Thank you for wonderful blog, I
just started blogging today, this is such a wonderful way to be
a part of such a beautiful Ministry, I am currently taking the "ESTHER" Bible Study it's
so POWERFUL, PRAISE GOD !!!!!!!
THANKS BETH, ANGELA LYNN
We're facing an overseas move this December and trying to fit in 18 weeks before we are packed up (home schooling); while I appreciate the flexibility, there are a lot of pressing issues to take care of in preparation for our departure and I want to be able to do everything well- not just "good enough."
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as to the Lord and not to men."
I would love prayer for my daughter who is secondary teacher wanna be - she graduated from college in May - all excited to start her "adult" life - the economy is such that no teaching job in site - discouragement has set in - she has been faithful in the Esther Bible Study this summer and I'm praying that God will open a door at some point this year for her to find a position and begin to teach - please pray for her faith to stay strong, for her to find some kind of job to tackle her student loans and ultimately for the Lord to find her just the job He has in mind for her. Thank you so much.
My eldest daughter started junior high today. She's an extremely bright and creative girl who doesn't quite fit. Praying she will find a place without losing her self!
You can pray for Punky Boo~ as she is forever that in my heart! :)
Thank you Amanda!!! School starts for us tomorrow. My son goes in the 4th grade this year. He stresses over the new changes in his little life. Ever year is a challange as he has ADHD. I pray over his new teacher all summer for them to be perfect for him and his challenges. But what is even heavier on my heart is for my best friends son who is entering kindergarden. He has Cerebral Palsy. He has physical challenges on one side of his boby. She has already had stares from new parents and students at orientation. He would steal your heart in a second. But for some his challenges are seen as a disadvantage for their child that will be in the same class or for the teacher who has to put out more effort then normal. I am praying for peace for his mom and that God will fight for him. I pray his teacher will have compassion and not see him as a burden and that this child would be loved!! We all suffer from handicaps you can just see his on the outside. I love him and his mother so much and pray this is a good transition!! He could use some prayers from everyone!!!
The Lord called us to move into a new community this summer. We sold our house without even having it on the market..after just building it 7 years ago. We know God called us, but with that comes a new school for my kids--who are a sophomore and 6th grade. I pray that they will find "their" place and that will God continue to be very clear for our family!
Please pray for my son. He started K4 this morning. He could very well be meeting the some of the people he will graduate from high school with! Please pray that he will make good friends and that he will have a close relationship with his teacher. Thank you!
Each year at the first "Parent's Night" held at school for my daughters (public school), I would meet their sole teacher in the early grades, and multiple teachers in later grades.
I was always last to leave the room, and spoke with them about my child.
I advised them that "each night during summer, we have prayed for the precise teacher for them, to lead them in knowledge and wisdom, from the last teacher to the next.
Indeed, the last teacher was the result of a summer of prayer to get the one teacher,... God knew who was best for my child.
And since we are meeting, and YOU are my daughter's teacher, God is in the mix, and He has chosen you as an answer to prayer.
I just want you to know that".
Every teacher every year was stunned.
At the end of the year, in the final week, I returned to the same teacher, to advise them that prayer, and their relationship to my daughter would continue.
Only now, instead of praying for provision of the precise and correct teacher for my child, we would pray Thanksgiving prayer.... that YOU were the answer to our prayer already.
Have a great summer!"
The entire prayer process, and subsequent announcement later in August/September to a new teacher went on every year.
ALL of them remember my daughters for that.
Consider doing the same for your child, through Our God.
My firstborn began first grade this morning. She is at a new school and was VERY excited and I must say that I was proud of a mostly tearless morning on this side! :) I did tear up just a bit when I walked in, but gulped them down and did not allow them to fall down my cheek. Thank you Lord for giving me strength!
I am praying my little girl to be a light to the kids around her and to be an example of Jesus. I'm also praying for to find some new friends! I've decided to do what my parents did with my sisters and I each morning before we went to school and that is pray before we leave the house. So, this morning, we did! And I loved it!
Thanks for your prayers!
Ashley
We started homeschool Kindergarden and PreK today, and I start teaching 2 days a week at a MDO (which all 3 of my kids will attend) next week. It will be quite an adjustment for us all. Thanks for praying for peace and knowledge and patience for all of us!
Praise God for praying mamas! Thank you so much, Amanda. My daughter is starting her junior year of college and leading a small group of freshman girls as well as working on the campus mission outreach servant team for FCA. Thank you all for praying that she will walk the walk and be a kind and growing leader to those whom God allows her to reach.
Thank you so much for putting into words the things that were on my heart this morning for my husband who is a teacher and starting school today. I emailed him your prayer and I truly hope it blesses him as it did me. Thank you all for this ministry and the blog. I look forward to and enjoy keeping up with you all! God bless.

Thank you so much for this! Schools started here in our part of Georgia a couple of weeks ago. My 2 girls have been in private Christian schools, but this is our first year homeschooling. They are in 6th and 2nd grades and they go to classes with other homeschoolers one day a week, so we are held accountable for the work we accomplish. Pray for us all as we adjust to new routines and make new friends. And I ask special prayers for me as mom and teacher to be an encourager, to set appropriate priorities, and to find the best way to reach each daughter.
Enjoy your time with your little ones, Amanda - it is fleeting!
Love and blessings to you all.
Today is the first day of school for many of "my" refugee kiddos. I work with a refugee resettlement agency in Texas, and all these sweet kiddos are starting school today, most not yet speaking English, and some having never been to school in their lives. Pray for these precious ones! They were tooooo cute in their little uniforms this morning! :)
I'm starting my Senior year in college and will graduate in May with a degree in Education, specializing in Exceptional Student Education. Please pray that I stay focused on my relationship with Christ and not let worries, anxieties and fears take hold of me as they have done in the past.
Well, we don't start school today, but in 2 weeks from now...and my firstborn 4 year old will be going all day! It's just how schools are here, they start so young! I'm trying to be strong :) Our second child will be going just for the mornings too. I would appreciate prayers for our girls, as we are in an inner city, multicultural, extremely diverse setting...which is cool...and we have many opportunities to explain to our children that we worship THE one True God! Amen!
Thanks!
Amanda: Although I don't have any children, I would appreciate a prayer. We have recently moved back to the Dallas area, and I would love to "meet my best friend." I know quite a few people, but thus far, no one whom I could really call a best friend. Thank you for all you do.
Julie
Good job Amanada. Will continue to pray for the teachers. We don't start school until after Labor Day......then we go until almost til mid June.
Thinking of all you Moms that are putting your babies on the bus or taking them to school for the first time. May God Bless you day!!!!
Blessings,
Bible Bunny in NO MI
Please pray for my foster (soon to be adopted) daughter who is beginning 3rd grade. Her years in foster care have left her developmentally delayed, so she is really a 6 year old in a 3rd grader's body. This morning she prayed "thank you God for a second chance to make a friend." She did not make any real friends last year in school. Please pray with me that she would make a friend. She has been working so hard on her social skills. Pray for her teachers as well as she brings many problems to the table. May God heal this child quickly. (She is getting a lot of help with a great Christian counselor.)
Pray for my daughter who is a junior. May God use her mightily as a light to shine on her school campus.
Pray for my son who is beginning his freshman year at a Christian university today. May these next few years be glorious as grows in the Lord.
Amanda,
Good to have you back! Hope you had a wonderfully refreshing time! My girls start school in a couple weeks. Melissa will be in 10th grade. Please pray that she finds good, solid, Christian friends this year. Emily will be in 9th grade at the same public school as her sister, after 6 years of homeschooling. She is on the Autism spectrum so she is a little anxious. Please also pray that she would find Christian friends to hang around and that the transition will go well.
I echo the thought of including all the homeschooling families. Thanks for this idea, Amanda!
My niece started kindergarten at the beginning of the month. Natasha is her name. We all gathered at the bus stop with her.
Love y'all!
Please pray for my kids and my husband and I. We moved our youngest of 4 to college last week: twin girls going to Christian colleges in two different states. Our oldest is married, but starting his senior year at a neighboring state school, and our "middle" son is starting his 4th of 5 years at a state school as well. Pray for successful years for all of them, for Christian friends, roommates, professors, etc. Then pray for my husband and I as we adjust to this new phase in our lives. The house is going to be SO quiet!! Pray that we grow closer during this time and that we both are open to God's leading.
Waiting on Him,
Kathy W
Thank you so much for praying. I sent my firstborn off to his Senior year of high school. I am so weepy about all this time having passed. He was just a 1st grader.
I just found out that the principal where my girls go to school prays over each desk every year. Isn't that awesome? I love her! We are blessed!
Pray for my son who starts Jr. High in the next week or so. Remember how hard those days could be and how mean kids can be....We are praying for a love of learning, a year of growing and maturing, and a love of God that goes deep.
Wow - what good timing. Thank you so much!
We're venturing into homeschooling here (first time, so this will be adjustment for all of us).
Could you please pray for wisdom, insight and patience for me?
Not sure how it will all look with teaching older ones, while occupying twin 3-yr-olds.
Thanks again!
Please pray for my daughter who teaches English at Cedar Hill High in Texas that God may help her to be His light for others to seek to know Him through her. Also for my grandson who is starting 2nd grade in Texas as well, may God place a hedge of protection around him and give him a sharp mind and wisdom to know what is right and needs to be accomplished to be a good student. May this year be an exceptional one for all! Thank you from their California mama/grandma!
I am praying especially for our wonderful Christian school. . . due in part to the recession, many families are choosing public school. I totally get and understand that, but it is hard to see so many leaving and the challenges to the school. We would appreciate your prayers for us this year, and for our teachers to have healthy marriages and healthy spiritual lives as they tackle the wonderful job of reaching kids. Thanks for that!
Lots happening in our household today. First day back to school, my son's '16th' birthday and new schools for both my kids. My husband and I have been praying for a miracle for God to change my son's heart on some things he has been dealing with and just this past sunday our new sermon starting is EXACTLY in-line with our prayers. HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD?
Please pray for my sweet son. He started 2 weeks ago in a new school, new 1st grade class, and new situation. He has autism and began last year in a self-contained autism program. He's being mainstreamed with an aide this year at our homeschool and I pray for success, friends, and loving, nurturing kids and teachers around him. I also pray for God's strong hand of protection over him!
Also pray for my daughter who started her freshman year of high school two weeks ago. We moved and she is in a high school that most of her elementary school friends do not attend. She's wild about Jesus and I pray she'll be bold, strong, and a great friend to others!
Thank you!
I am a homeschooling mom. I have two at home. One of which is in college part time. My other two are in college. One of which will be going away to a school in Florida for the first time. (We live in AZ) This is the first child to leave home for longer than two months. I would like pray for her, and for the rest of us at home. Concerning our homeschooling please pray that my youngest will be able to stay focus and be delegent and that I will have much wisdom.
Welcome home Amanda.
Thanks
Kim B. in AZ
Ditto, wonderful prayers- I pray each child is protected and blessed in his/her educational setting-Welcome Home, Lots of love
My firstborn is going into 6th grade, which is the start of middle school in our city. Under normal circumastances a big change, but he is also in the special education system. New peers, new teachers, new aides, new (huge) building, new bus - and an overwhelmed young man who doesn't totally understand all of these changes. Along with a Momma just trying to keep a tough exterior so her boy will be brave. Thank-you...
I lift up my husband, a high school teacher and coach, and FCA huddle leader at his school.
I also lift up my sweet Dailey Rae as she moves from the Primary School to big 3rd grade (and End of Grade tests!) at the Elementary school campus. I say a special prayer for Dailey Rae's teacher.
Thank you for loving on our teachers and kids!
I'M JUST SO HAPPY TO SEE SO MANY WONDERFUL LADIES WRITING IN ON THIS BLOG, AND REQUESTING PRAYER AND GIVING PRAISES TO GOD. MAY THESE CHILDREN ALL, BE LIFTED UP TO
OUR GOD. THANKS FOR THE PRAYERS FOR MY BEAUTIFUL GRANDDAUGHTER KIRSTEN, THAT JUST STARTED SCHOOL THIS YEAR.
And her words "ITS SO AWESOME" nana Angie.
AND YES, MY DAUGHTER IS STILL IN TEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS, ANGELA LYNN
Sorry... have to post again. I posted then read through all the comments and am struck at how many of us have children with autism! My son, Jackson, is six and in 1st grade, and it's an agonizing and faith-building thing to let him go and trust God to take care of him. I'm so thankful that, as much as I love him, God loves him even more! To all you autism moms, I LOVE YOU!!! Knowing you're out there and facing the same struggles helps me to know that I'm not alone! :)
Amanda,
This prayer is so appropriate for my 3 babies! Thank you thank you for taking the time to post it today. My twin sons, James and Ethan, as well as my 6 year old daughter Faith are all entering a new school this year. Faith has started Kindergarten, and while the bittersweet feelings that gives me is overwhelming in itself, she is not struggling with adjustment as much as my boys. This is their 4th school in 4 years. We are a military family and move frequently. Although we have lived here for 2 years, the other school they attended just wasn't working out. So...they are at a different one this year. I ask that you hold my James, Ethan and my Faith in your prayers.
I'm printing your beautiful one out to recite when my own words fail me! Love y'all so much!!!
Please pray for my freshman daughter who started school two weeks ago here in Atlanta. We just moved here three weeks ago. She was TOTALLY involved in her youth group and had lots of wonderful, virtuous, high standard friends. She feels lost. We are praying and believing God for blessing beyond blessing for her...for godly friends who she can totally connect with. It is taking longer than we want :)) but we are being patient and waiting on the LORD. HE IS ABLE, FAITHFUL AND TRUE. I appreciate the prayers MORE THAN ANYONE CAN IMAGINE. We are desperate for God in this situation.
Thank you!!
Thank you Amanda for your prayer. My little 2nd grader actually already has one week under his belt, but I was in tears as I read your prayer. I think I will print it out and make a point to pray over him and his teacher every day. (School is not his favorite activity, go figure.) I know they both need to be covered in prayer. Thanks especially for praying that this will be the year our kids hear and accept Jesus' call. We pray he is a light for Christ every day. Thanks again. You really touched my heart this morning.
Career oriented homeschooling mom who doesn't really want to homeschool but trusts God will honor submission to husbands desires. Oldest in college far away, senior at school indepenent as should be. Home with junior highers missing the world outside and feeling lonely. Looking for a Beth Moore study in my area to have some woman fellowship. Maybe I'll have to start one!
Please pray for my son Patrick. He's my 1st and he's starting kindergarten on September 8th. I can't believe I'm getting teary eyed just writing that.
Thanks,
Kathleen
My boys start in 15 days, yes I am counting! My oldest 4th grade and youngest 1st grade! 3rd grade was a rough year. Learning disabilities started to surface. I was concerned. The Monday after school was out my son was diagnosed with a wheat allergy which is linked to having a foggy mind which is treated as a Learning Disability by doctors. Since it's a wheat allergy, the diet changed to wheat free/gluten free. The timing was God, I had all summer to work on his new diet and learn and find new foods for him. He's a different child. He talks more, he's more relaxed, calm, laughs more. I thought he was quiet and just naturally more irratable but that wasn't him at all.
The food was stressing him out! Can you believe that??? My heart aches for parents who are at the end of their rope with school and a student that is struggling through the subjects just barely passing. It could be as simple as a food allergy and has simple as fixing it through diet!!!!
I am looking forward to this new year. My heart is anxious!
Thank you,
Katy
Pray for my son. This is his first year teaching and it is so tough. He needs encouragement badly.
Beth you echo the prayers of my hear. This year brings change to our family...three kids, three different schools, all starting on different days. Last night my employment went from full time to "barely making it" part time. Please pray for me as I now go out and look for more employment and a different balance and challenges at home. Shel
I have an 8yo son heading back to school (4th grade), and a daughter beginning high school, and another entering college. My greatest desire is for each of mychildren to develop a deep and vibrant relationship with the Lord... that He would go from being MY God, to being THEIR God in a very real way. Some days I can see so much evidence of it... and other days I see the struggle. Please pray for them to not only know of Him, but to really KNOW Him... and to be a light for Him in their schools.
Wow! Thanks Amanda. :)
Please pray for my son who is a new transfer student at Belmont University. I am praying for many things. However, I am especially burdened that he find some solid Christian friends. He had trouble finding friends at his last school which was very uncharacteristic of him.
I'm a high school teacher in Indiana and started last week. This post comes at the perfect time as I just got home from day 3 and am EXHAUSTED! I reminded myself that this level of exhaustion continues until June - and that is why every teacher deserves the summer off! :-)
Prayers for ways to connect with each individual student (125 of them!) so that they know they matter to me and feel welcome in my classroom.
Oh, and prayers that somehow I'll become funny overnight. When I asked what they want out of me as their teacher EVERY class wants chimed in that they want me to be funny! :-)
I am the WMU Prayer Coordinator for the West Metro Baptist Association in GA and we just got done with a series of 3 School Prayer Walks for the tri-county area that we cover and, let me tell you siestas, prayer works and our children and those that work with them on a daily basis need it. Satan is on the war path and the only way we are going to defeat the strong hold he seems to have in our schools is on our knees! Sweet TX siestas, my prayers are coming your way for your schools, their workers and those precious children y'all are sending to school!
Love in Christ,
Stephanie Barnes
I absolutely love this blog. Jesus Christ is always lifted up and in turn, us in Him.
Last week in our Sunday night women's class one of the ladies from our church shared about a wonderful organization called Moms In Touch. It's Mothers praying for children and schools (or grandmothers, relatives, any body wanting to pray for a child). You can start a small group to pray specifically each week. I'm not in a group, just learned about it, but the tools and tips from this group are wonderful to have and keep you accountable to pray for your kids and schools. Here's their link...

Please pray for my Niece who is starting Jr High at a large public school whereas previously she has been in small private. Also please pray for her sister that will also be at public school for the first time as well - she is starting 3rd grade. And for my son whose first day of preschool is tomorrow. Thank you!!
My son is entering his 3rd year of college. This is his last semester to get his grades up or he will have to pursue another path. It is not due to partying but has always struggled academically. This is so hard as a mom but I know that God has a path for him. I pray for his guidance during this time. What he wants may not be God's plan. We have to trust in Him.
Please pray for me as I enter back into the workforce full time (economy). I will be teaching 8th grade math and leaving my baby at daycare for the first time ever. I really need the Lord's strength during this time. Thanks.
Please pray for my youngest daughter who is about to begin student teaching high school Spanish.
Also, please pray for my oldest daughter who is a high school teacher, and is expecting her first child in late October.
We have been on a huge emotional roller coaster since the oldest found out about her pregancy.
While it didn't take God by surprise, it has been a difficult process since she is unmarried, and is not in a stable relationship. Please pray for her...that God will guide her, and that she will listen for His voice. Please pray that she will follow God, and His will for her life, and for her baby boy. The enemy's voice is very close to her ear, and is driving her from her family, and her church. Please pray that the enemy will not win this battle!
Thank you in advance for your prayers...I'm a desperate mother right now!
Kathy
Welcome back!!! I am another homeschooling mom. We just started the year off today. Michael is in first grade, Sam is in Kindergarten, Josh is doing Preschool and my twin girls, Sarah and Abby, are just being cute distractions;)! Thank you for your prayers. I do not want to lose focus of my Lord and get too caught up in the "school". I am so thankful that I've been given the opportunity to teach my children, not just the regular school stuff, but more importantly how much they are loved by a beautiful God.
My husband just moved to another state for a new job. We will join him when our house sells here or whenever God moves us to be with him in the new state. This means our children will change schools during the school year. My son will be in 5th grade and my daughter will be in 2nd. Our current school doesn't start until Sept.8th but the new school starts Wed. Thank you for your prayers!
Love, Christine
Mrs. Beth,
Thank you for praying for all of us. My kids attend a private school and started two weeks ago, way before everyone else here in our great state.
My oldest is 8 & in 3rd grade. I am praying daily over her female friendships as this is the year when a lot of "stuff" begins in that area.
My youngest, a 4 year old boy, started Pre-K and is adjusting nicely so far. Please pray for his sweet teacher. She has a class full of 11 boys... not a single girl.
Again, thank you.
Please pray for my four. They've been homeschooled for six years. Last Wednesday they started a university model school where they go MWF and I teach them TTH. It's an adjustment for all of us. Prayer is always coveted.
Thank you!
Stephanie
My son will be a senior and we just moved him across the country! He is starting at a brand new school next Tuesday (9/1) and I would appreciate your prayers. Also my niece just switched schools and was so nervous her first day that she threw up twice and had to go home early! Please pray for her - she is a sophomore in H.S., and her brother is an 8th grader and is also at a new school! Thanks!!!!
I helped a young Christian woman from Pakistan register for high school today. Her family left Pakistan just a few weeks ago to escape the terror inflicted on Christians. Loud noises and sudden movements are frightening and flood her with memories of what she has experienced, yet she is so hopeful for her future and plans to become a doctor. Please pray that her first weeks will be peaceful and that she will adjust well and make friends easily.
Amanda, thank you for "not leaving anyone out" :) My son is a SENIOR in high school this year! I get tears just thinking about him leaving home. have NO idea where he wants to go to college.
He and my daughter started school the Friday before last - they've had 7 days of school now already. Last week was full of homework for my daughter. She's in 8th - and had 5-6 hours of homework every night last week. Pray that it will get easier for her. She gets blocks, it shouldn't take her that long.
Could use some industrial strength prayer! This is our first year homeschooling our 5 children. I have a great peace about this...now I just need some great patience!
Melissa
We dropped our daughter off at college last week! It was so difficult for me and her father, however we know she is blanketed in prayer! Her room mate is not a christian so please pray that my daughter can be the shinning light that she needs to be! Also, that she finds godly friends to hang around with and lastly, that she can handle the huge academic load!

Thank you so much for this post!!! Our paster called all the teachers in our church to the altar yesterday and prayed for us. Today starts my 3rd week back at school. I've taught for 17 years - the last 11 were in kindergarten and this year I went to the middle school - 6th grade reading/lang. arts. I am loving it! It has been amazing to see God's hand in it. I accept His calling to the "middle child". They all need us, but Jesus has put a Godly compassion in my heart for them. You have no idea what the prayers mean to us. I know the parents of former students I've had have prayed for me and I always sense the presence and power of God in my classroom (public school). The harvest is ripe.
My kids started school July 31. They are both in Middle School. Please keep them in your prayers. I add my prayers with all the other precious children, teachers, and Mammas. God Bless!
Abigail - 6th grade in a new school
Nathan - 7th grade
The Lord knows the specifics. Thank you so much for your post, and for praying.
This was written for this school year by one of my dearest friends.
A PRAYER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR BY LEA ANN McCOMBS
As kids head back to school this week, there are a few things that we can all agree on as we pray for them and their year, no matter what schooling situation they may be a part of. Having had a child in almost all of these at one point, I'm well aware of the pitfalls and potential for Satan's snares inherent in each.
For the public school students:
Lord, give them strength and nobility of character to stand alone, no matter what friends, teachers, or the cool kids say or do. Let the Scripture that's been planted in their hearts rise to the surface with every challenge. Let your truth come from their mouths as they answer their tempters, and with every true word spoken, let their hearts grow stronger. Allow them to see their school as a mission field, filled with hurting people who long for truth and not be swayed by the popular opinion of the day.
For the Christian school student:
Father, even within the supposedly Christ-centered hallways, darkness lurks and temptation waits, hiding in the hearts of those who are not there to learn truth, but to disrupt. Protect our children from themselves, and the tendency to become careless or shallow in their faith, assuming that anything they hear or do must be Christian, since that's the name of the school. Let them see clearly the difference between those professing the Name, and those with You entrenched deeply in their hearts. Let this time of growth and discovery prepare them with the ability from now on to tell the sheep from the goats and to never be led astray by false prophets.
For the homeschooled student:
As hard as we try, Lord, no parent can train the sin nature out of a child. They are each your unique creations with a free will. Guard the homeschooled child from puffed-up pride and self-centerdness. Rebuke the tendency to assume spiritual superiority. Just because they can quote whole chapters of your word doesn't meant their hearts are any more tender than the most hardened criminal. Let them see the struggle others must face and develop compassion for the lost and hurting who they may not see as often as they would in another mode of schooling. Help them to recognize that their relationship with You is not based on Mom's relationship with you and that God holds each one accountable for what he's been given.
For the college student:
Lord, this is a tough time in the life of any kid. The buffet of the world's choices is spread before them, tempting, inviting them to just "have a taste." Deepen their convictions now, Lord. Strengthen their minds that they can make the standards they were raised with their own. Bind the spirit of confusion that will try to muddle Your clear mandates and let them think clearly and rightly and refuse to be sidetracked. Give them a vision for their future, for a path You've created for them. One that will excite and motivate them to finish the race. Deliver them back to us whole, stronger and wiser, ready to use all they've been given to impact their world.
We pray that this school year will produce mighty warriors for God's kingdom from every school in the nation and from every family. Amen.
