Back to Work
Hey, my sweet sisters! I've just hit my desk after two and a half weeks away from the office. Our holidays were extended so Keith, Melissa, Amanda, Curt, Jackson, and I could participate in Passion '07, a huge, life changing event for college students that was held in Atlanta, Georgia. 23,000 college kids from every state in the U.S. and at least ten other nations hit the city on New Year's Day and sought God, worshipped their hearts out, and poured over Scripture from early morning until late at night until the afternoon of January 4th. The entire family was involved in one way or another. Curt, my favorite young preacher, has been a community leader at the event for several years and Amanda and Melissa help me in a number of ways. Among other things, this year they participated in a question and answer session I got to do with the college girls in several breakout sessions. They sifted through a large number of questions then asked them from the platform and helped me answer a few. It was a blast to work beside them in that capacity. Jackson provided non-stop entertainment to everyone he encountered. He flirted with everyone he saw and adored anyone who would let him chew on their cell phones. (Mainly me. His mother is picky about whose cell phone he is allowed to gnaw.) Keith was all over the place lending a hand wherever he was needed. I was so glad he was there. He's one of those who thinks an ounce of pretention is worth a pound of cow manure so he keeps everybody honest.
Louie and Shelley Giglio, founders of Choice Ministies as well as Passion Conferences, are personal friends of ours and we've been watching this movement swell into a tidal wave since our first participation in 1998. For those of us who have done the conferences together for years, we also enjoy a family reunion. We get to meet back up with friends like Chris Tomlin and his band members, all of whom we dearly love and I actively mother whenever I feel the need. We also look so forward to getting to see what God is doing in the UK based on Matt Redmon's annual update to us. We are crazy about Charlie Hall (as a person and not just a worship leader) and who wouldn't be nuts about David Crowder? (His parents are some of the most wonderful people you've ever met.) If you've never had the occasion to meet any of those worship leaders personally, you'd be so pleased to see their personal integrity and warmth and the blatant reality of their own pursuits of Christ. I can tell you one thing about Louie and Shelley. They don't think much of fakes or of personalities just looking for a platform. Big egos are big no-nos. You would approve of the humility practiced there by people who the world would welcome to be completely full of themselves. They are each the real thing. As my husband Keith says, Texans can smell a varmint from a mile away.
Dr. John Piper brought a message that I don't think I'll ever forget on not letting guilt destroy your God-given dream of engaging in what God is doing in your generation. (I think most of the sessions are available by podcast and some by webcast on the official Passion website.) I got to hear Francis Chan for the first time. He is a fabulous communicator who pastors a thriving church in California with multiple plants elsewhere. He called students to not just love the Word of God because of the human instrument delivering it but to love God's words because they are HIS. I could have "Amened!" myself off the balcony. What God did among the students, however, was the unparalleled highlight. They brought such sincere heart-worship to the throne of God and studied the Word tirelessly in multiple sessions. Their unashamed proclamations of Jesus Christ reverberated throughout Atlanta. They gave titanic offerings...to see Bibles translated for the very first time in the languages of two people groups...to see a number of world mission organizations thrive...to lend relief in some areas of tremendous need. They also committed to the hard work of intercession for various missions for the next year. Refreshingly, their sacrifices came as a response to opportunity and not pressure. Literally thousands surrendered to be available to God to go to any nation at any time upon His call. It was stunning. I won't usually write this profusely on the blog but my heart was so full because of all I've seen that I couldn't hold it in. With such dismal things on the world horizon, I saw the God of Hope in spectacular glory this week. As surely as Scripture has promised, depravity of man and persecution of Christians will increase as the day of Christ draws near but it also promised that glorious things will happen through the outpouring of His Spirit in the last days. I marveled over what might happen throughout the nations in the name of Christ over the next decade because 23,000 college students gathered in the State of Georgia this week. I wanted to share the experience with you in hopes that somehow you could get a little glimpse, too. You and I inhabit Planet Earth at a time when God is in the process of fulfilling monumental Bible prophecies. Lord, give us eyes to see! "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." Matthew 24:14. Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!

WOW WOW WOW! THanks so much for sharing about your time in GA. Once again, you have inspired us to "get out there and do the thing!" I'll see you in Shreveport. May God shine brightly in '07.
Go God!
Thank you Beth for this post. Happy New Year and I am praying God's blessings on you and your family. I am happy that you had two weeks off and no one deserves time off more than you. The time that you give us simply amazes me and I thank you for being obedient to God's calling on your life. I was thinking the other day when we all are in Heaven, can you imagine all of us girlfriends sitting together and having the time of our lives and I can see or hear the laughter. I just know God has to allow us a Starbucks at that time. We chase Jesus together here and imagine being in his presence and worshipping our God together!!! It's funny that you talked about the Passion conference. Today, I bought a cd from the Passion 05 conference. My son downloaded it on my IPod Nano. It is encouraging to hear about the young adults with a passion for Christ. I wish that I could have been there. For weeks now I feel in my Spirit that I am to go to your San Francisco conference. I know it is the Deeper Still conference. You will be in Nashville on my birthday for the 2nd Deeper Still conference and I told God I don't understand but He has his reasons. Please join me in prayer about this. God made a way for me to attend the Phoenix conference and He will do the same for this one. The only trouble I had in AZ was that I couldn't get sweet tea. A lady at your conference in AZ asked me what sweet tea was! I love the South and praise God for sweet tea. I get such a joy praying for the sweet ladies at your conferences. Only God could place a love for them in my heart because I don't know them until I get to pray for them. It breaks my heart to see their pain but praise God he brings healing thru the messages you bring and His Word is Life! Your sense of humor is contagious as much as your passion for His Word! Again, thank you for being here for us and please know I love you and lift you up in prayer and your sweet family. Jackson is the sweetest baby. What a hertiage is has and he will love God's Word!! God bless you and I am excited that I have a divine release to increase. I found a verse in the Bible that says, may God increase me more and more, me and and my children. I thought of your message in AZ when I read that and I pray that for me and my 2 boys and for your family! Praise God!!
Love,
Patty
Dear Beth
I think it is so important that we minister to young college women. I teach in a private christian women's college and I know my girls need much encouragement and sometimes direction in their young lives. I praise the Lord that He has given me this place to minister. I also praise the Lord for you and your family and for the impact you have on so many lives. I hope some of my girls were there in Atlanta with you. I remember being in such a pit of sin during my college days and unfortunately it was not until many years after college that I was able to climb out. I wish I could have connected with someone like you back then. Thank you for all you do! I pray for you often!
God bless!
Much love
Kristi B.
Thank you Beth for sharing about your time at Passion. My daughter is a college student who will love to have the cd of the conference. I am so excited and counting the days till you come visit the northwest in February for LPL, please don't forget your umbrella! Thank you Beth for this Blog too!!!! God bless you dear sister.

I so want to "AMEN!" what Kristi said. I watched to Podcast, to see what Passion had to say to these young friends of mine, some of whom are my very own children. God so spoke to me, through you, to tell me that it is my lack of humility and my pride that is keeping me from taking a position as a professor, at a major university, because I want to wait until I am an expert in the field--(I believe you said, "Whatever God has called you to do, it is out of your comfort zone, and it is harder than you can do and you will have to press through your river of fear to get through to your promise land...We want to be good at something at the first go.") Well, after God slapped me in the head with this two or three times, I finally saw my pride in this. I may not be the best college professor, but God will make me better!
Thank you.
Hello sweet sisters in Christ! I just wanted to say that as a 22 year old college senior, I was a first-time attendee at the Passion conference last week. It was every bit of what Beth has just described here. I have been to women's conferences before with Women of Faith, but nothing on earth could compare to the experience that I just had with 23,000 of my closest friends. :) There is nothing like looking around an entire arena filled with people who are just like you--in the season of seeking Christ and figuring out the Lord's will for our lives--with their hands raised and singing at the top of their lungs for the only ONE who has indeed set us free. For us to grow together in Christ and literally become a FAMILY (in 4 days) of believers who understands that it's NOT about us and it never was--but that we were there to CATCH IT, and take it to the nations--was the most priceless experience I've ever had in my life. As a young woman of faith who looks up to everyone in this ministry and everyone reading, I say THANK YOU for your prayers, THANK YOU for your wisdom, and THANK YOU for making a way for us youngins (grin) to grow with you, be inspired by you, and be a dancing and shouting generation after you for the Lord Jesus Christ!
To Beth--if I never have the chance to personally tell you--I want you to know that Buddy's legacy will live on in me. You saw something in him that you wanted and ran with it--and now I have CAUGHT IT from you. In the Tuesday break-out session, Christy Nockels began by praying and thanking the Lord for raising you up as a spiritual leader and warrior for our generation. I am FOREVER grateful for the blessing of you in our lives, and I promise not to let the torch blow out. Please know that this small-town country girl in North Carolina prays for you often, and bodly, as you continue to fall more in love with Jesus and are used to teach us to do the same. Know that our gereration loves you dearly and our time with you last week was precious. Until next time...
Love you bushels ;)
Thank you Beth for allowing God to be HIS mouthpiece of hope and healing for so many in Atlanta. As I listened to God speak thru you, I watched miracles of grace come alive in college girls our Stephanie ministered to for so long. God was answering her prayers right before our very eyes. God bless you and to Him be the glory!

From a recovering (and recovering and recovering) pride-aholic, thank you for the message at Passion. The Lord, once again, confirmed the work He began in me a year and a half ago when He set Phil. 2 heavy on my heart. I am a pastor's wife who has been in a recovery program for nine months. It has been the most humbling experience ever. I questioned my sanity when I took my first chip (in front of many in our church). Then, I realized that I AM crazy. But crazy is a good thing...as long as I'm crazy for Him, His nearness and His glory! Thank you for your honesty and wisdom. May He be praised!

Hi Beth,
You will LOVE this..Our women's ministry is always in the middle of a study - mostly yours! The men have now announced they are going to do a study as well to which one of our darling 8-year-old baby girls replied, "I didn't know MEN could do Bible Studies!" HA! Stay in the Word, girls!
Good Morning Beth and Amanda!
I was facilitating the Daniel study last night and before we started a young college girl walked in (she had been away for the Christmas break) and she was smiling all over the place. She sat down and said I have a surprise for you. I thought she was going to tell me she was engaged, she pulled out this picture frame and the picture was of you and her from Passion 07'. I might add, you looked great!! She said she thanked you for changing her life thru your studies and you told her she had a teachable face. She cracked up over that and then I could see what you meant about that. Thank you for ministering to college girls!! She asked me to be their sponser next year. I understand they are doing it differently next year but I told her I would be their sponser.
Now one last thing, I teach a Women's Sunday School class with ages from 20 something to 50 something. Yesterday I was lead my the spirit to teach from Saul/Paul's conversion and the Wedding Banquet. I told God it was all him because there is no way I could teach what he wanted me to teach. I felt strongly that someone or a few someones were not saved or doubting their salvation. It concerns me and breaks my heart for them. Please pray for our class. God is moving in our class and taking us to deeper levels with Him! I don't want the enemy to have victory in our lives and I am believing God for these ladies who may be struggling with their salvation! May God give you an unexpected blessing today.
Love Ya,
Patty
I read that Piper talk on the Desiring God site--awesome!! I'm so glad you're blogging.
