Siesta Bible Study Kick Off!

Siesta Summer Bible Study (Introduction) from LPV on Vimeo.

*If you're having trouble viewing the video, you may need to download a newer version of Adobe Flash Player. You can get it here. Thanks for the tip, Adrienne!

Hey, Siestas! Let’s kick off some summer Bible study, why don’t we? I’m a little over-excited, too, but hold up before you write back! DON’T COMMENT YET! Your comments to this post are meant to FOLLOW your group meeting as a way of sharing a highlight about your time together. Again, please DO NOT WRITE COMMENTS until after you meet. If you’re participating solo, please watch the video first and do the exercises for yourself, THEN comment with your brief responses.

Here’s how it goes:

Please watch the eleven minute video for instructions for your small group and, if you can’t watch it together, no big deal! Each of you try to give it a look before your meeting. These videos will be posted indefinitely, so it’s no problem if your group can’t meet until later in the week. I’ll always write the instructions in the post just like I did last summer in case anybody has technical difficulty watching the video.

Here are your 3 interactive exercises for today:

1. An icebreaker just so we can have the opportunity to be ridiculous: What breed of dog do you most resemble in demeanor and why? If you don’t know your dog breeds, describe your demeanor to your group and let them help you.

2. This one will help us get to know one another’s priority needs right now. Get out a pen and paper and craft a one-sentence text message with a limit of 160 characters that starts with (and includes) these words: Please pray for me. I…

3. Have one group member read Psalm 19 out of The Message to the rest of the group. (See below) After she reads the whole psalm, have members lock in on the section that describes what the Word of God (called by other names such as “revelation”) does for us. Mention each benefit of studying Scripture and have group members who have discovered one of those benefits give short and specific testimonies as an encouragement to the rest.

You’ll pray and dismiss then designate ONE GROUP MEMBER to comment with a report about your group. Please limit the comment to a normal size paragraph. Each member will then complete Weeks One and Two of homework in their Me Myself & Lies member-book by our second gathering in two weeks. If you can’t get all your homework accomplished, meet anyway! A little Bible study is FAR BETTER than no Bible study! Thank you so much for participating!

I love you like crazy.
Beth

Psalm 19
A David Psalm
1-2 God's glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon.
Madame Day holds classes every morning,
Professor Night lectures each evening.

3-4 Their words aren't heard,
their voices aren't recorded,
But their silence fills the earth:
unspoken truth is spoken everywhere.

4-5 God makes a huge dome
for the sun—a superdome!
The morning sun's a new husband
leaping from his honeymoon bed,
The daybreaking sun an athlete
racing to the tape.

6 That's how God's Word vaults across the skies
from sunrise to sunset,
Melting ice, scorching deserts,
warming hearts to faith.

7-9 The revelation of God is whole
and pulls our lives together.
The signposts of God are clear
and point out the right road.
The life-maps of God are right,
showing the way to joy.
The directions of God are plain
and easy on the eyes.
God's reputation is twenty-four-carat gold,
with a lifetime guarantee.
The decisions of God are accurate
down to the nth degree.

10 God's Word is better than a diamond,
better than a diamond set between emeralds.
You'll like it better than strawberries in spring,
better than red, ripe strawberries.

11-14 There's more: God's Word warns us of danger
and directs us to hidden treasure.
Otherwise how will we find our way?
Or know when we play the fool?
Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!
Keep me from stupid sins,
from thinking I can take over your work;
Then I can start this day sun-washed,
scrubbed clean of the grime of sin.
These are the words in my mouth;
these are what I chew on and pray.
Accept them when I place them
on the morning altar,
O God, my Altar-Rock,
God, Priest-of-My-Altar.

Psalm 19 is just what I needed this morning. "The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together." I placed those words on my morning altar and pray that God will work a miracle in my family.

Please pray for me. I just want to know Jesus.

The prayerful explanation that scripture can help keep me from saying "stupid things" seemed to prick my heart today.

Since I'm solo, I'm not sure how this will work out. But I sure do love Psalm 19 (my man read it to me at the top of a waterfall before he proposed! =D )

I just love that I can find so much wisdom to help me live and know more than I truly could in my own strength!! As we move, please pray that my whole family would have eyes and ears to see and hear where we should be "planted" in housing, schools, and Church fellowship. Thank you!!

Oh I do wish I was doing this study along with you, but no shops over here stocked the study book. Nonetheless, I'm still going to enjoy watching the videos and gleen some encouragement from them!

I am going solo -- so here is my coment on today's lesson. Ps. 19- a great reminder that i have all i need in the Word -- to be overwhemed by His words and not the worries of this world. Thank you God that you are in control - help me to remeber that when i try to take control.
Please pray for me as i am really struggling - to do the ministry He wants me to do and to know when to say "no" and when to say "yes" to the many opportunities that seem to arise as a servant of GOd and a mom of 3 kids . I just want to please Him.

We met at Katie's house to start us off. Katie, Stacy, Jennifer and Stacie(which is me) will be participating. We are alternating weeks between Jen and Katie. It was a precious meeting. We have 12 kids between us. Everyone had their kids there but myself. I am for sure bringing mine next time.(so they can babysit!) They are 14 and 10...The rest are 5 and under...You can imagine how are first gathering was. Praise God we got through it...Katie made a delicious shortcake with hand picked strawberries...How like God to inspire Katie to make it without knowing that Psalm 19:10 would say that we will like the Word of God better than Strawberries...I know we will...We have a tremendous group of women meeting!!!

What a great way to start my day...with you and in the word of God! It's my 44th birthday today and love the video. I am going solo on this and so excited about it. I am most like a stray dog...start out alone and migrate to those that love doing what I do and that nurture me. If i were to create that text, it would be; "Please pray 4 me, I always need them!" Psalm 19 is now my new favorite verse. God keeps me straight and in focus when I am in the word. "Father (God) knows Best"! Looking forward to spending time with you all! My blessings~

Oh the love of scripture...We are all women who love God's word and desire to know more of Jesus and be changed by God's word. As Psalm 19:14 says We want more of Him so we can bring him glory in our hearts, mouth and lives. Thank you for this new format of bible study to share hearts with other believers.

One of us said, "Please pray for me, I'm believing the lies I tell myself" and another responded, "and when I try to make myself NOT believe the lies, I believe I am deceiving myself, they are true"...what a great time of sharing around the "table" of Psalm 19...better than diamonds, emeralds and even strawberries. We look forward to this study! Pam, JoAnn, Barb and Cathy in Colorado

We ended our annual summer Bible study today, (this year was Loving Well), and then four of us remained for our first meeting for Me, Myself, and Lies. Our names are Marleis, Denise, Lynn, and Joni. Ages range from 30s - 50s. We can't wait to get started! Denise is leaving for Peru Thursday with our church's mission team. We would appreciate your prayers for her and the team as they minister by providing much needed medical and dental services. They will be gone 9 days.

There are three young mommies and one married friend in my group. We met while my sweet husband played with our little girls downstairs and the babies slept. My favorite part of the meeting was hearing the girls pray for each other, even though they don't really know each other (they all know me). My eyes teared up listening to their prayers for one another. So precious and deep for just meeting each other today!

I'm so thankful that the Lord brought these girls to the group!

We had our first meeting this morning and we are all so excited to do this study and be a part of women doing it all over the world. There are 15 of us participating. We are looking forward to having better self-talk and lifting each other up. We will pray for those siestas flying solo.
We also laughed too hard when we saw our Siesta Mama wearing her Moon Pie Shirt. LOVE IT!!!

Psalm 19 really ministered to Kristen and Megan in KC, KS this morning. We are old, good friends (you know the kind), and it was so divinely appropriate to hear the priority prayer need of each other. We traded papers, and committed to pray for these needs this summer. Our kids were wound up and disruptive--we know it was spiritual--so we are even more determined to mine the gems that this study and community has to offer! Blessings and THANK-YOU!!

There are four of us, but one has the stomach flu today!! Between the three of us today, we have a labrador retriever, a Heinz 57 mutt and a malamute. We're currently without books as our local Christian bookstore neglected to tell us they were backordered!! So we're scrambling to get them over the internet... So excited to do this study and looking forward to digging in to God's Word this summer. Thanks, Beth!

Doing this solo, but I asked my husband and oldest son if I were a dog what breed would I most resemble and they both said a "Chihuahua". I asked why and they both said I "yap" a lot and am nosey. It kind of hurt my feelings but maybe that is my prayer. Please pray for me that i can control my yapping and quit being nosey.

Patty and I are long-time friends and co-workers at 3M in Finance. We are in our 40's and 50's. Thank you for sharing Psalm 19 with us. We were both drawn to versus 11-14, so powerful that each new day we start "sun-washed," fresh and new. We are so thankful to share in this study with all of the siestas.

We are both excited to start the

I have a group this year! I rallied a bunch of friends together from the school where I work. I'm so excited! We (Jennifer, Courntey, Debbie, Betty, Sarah and Kathy)met at my house this morning.

We decided these things:
1. We all have different doggie personalities - dingy, obedient, family oriented, center-of-attention and prissy were all words that came up.
2. Two of us had never sent a text message - ever!
3. We all have some struggles right now, we all need prayer and we all need Him!
4. We liked the term "stupid sins".
5. We love knowing that each new day dawns and we are "scrubbed clean" because of Jesus!

Praise you LORD!

My prayer need is to sincerely love the hard to love. To be the initiator in relationship when I don't want to. To be an encourager instead of the rebuker I feel that I have become. "That my sudden actions and reactions would be Godly".

I'm joining this study with a group of women from our church, but this week my husband I are (he's a youth minister) are spending a week with 40 of our high school students in TN. So, needless to say, I am going solo for this first session. I'm laying on a mattress on the floor in our dorm room, with my husband's laptop and just got done watching the video...excellent job with the graphics! :) Can't wait to join my siestas back home and looking forward to studying God's Word with you all! I definitely needed to read Psalm 19 today. I have been struggling with reading my Bible (I fall asleep, the phone rings, family members want to talk, someone at the door, etc…). I will just concentrate on all the guidance and strength available to me from God’s Word and make time to spend with Him each day without interruptions. Robin, Cayce, SC

We met on our lunch hour today and it was great getting to know one another outside of "work." After reading Psalms 19 we had several that felt like God pulls it all together even though we tend to try and pull away. Also, Debbie shared with us her thoughts on how awesome it is that we can just look at creation and know that there is a God.

1. While I wish I was like my bff who is like a golden retriever - loving, easy-going, I am actually like one of those skinny little scruffy dogs that are always shaking, filled with anxiety, and don't want anyone to get too close.
2. Please pray for me, I am trying a new thing – to love God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, which is so hard because I have never been able to trust him or anyone due to effects from childhood victimization. I want to get past the paralyzing fears and let God to be God in my life so I don’t have to be – I am not good at it anyhow. I hope that someday when I can trust our Good and Sovereign God, peace and love will finally replace anxiety.
3. While that Psalm stirs up conflicting emotions, I know that God's Word is medicine for me.

Praying that this study obliterates the terrible lies that many of us have long believed and leads to new freedom in Christ. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind!

Thanks Beth!

First of all I have to say thank you...God has answered my prayer about this study. He knows I tend to let my pride get in the way and not ask for help when I really need it. I cried tears of joy over several siestas and Siesta Amanda being an answer to my prayer.

Ok Mama Beth,
I am like a golden retriever. I like to take care of my family and be in the center of things like my adorable goldies are.

I so love Psalm 19. It was a blessing to my soul this afternoon. I need prayer for trusting God and letting Him have control in this storm I am in. I give it to him and then I try and grab it back. So I need to let go and trust Him with everything.

I can't wait to get started in this study, I know God and I need some serious time together. I look forward to all the wisdom from my fellow siestas that I love with all my heart.

hugs

PS Mama Beth the moonpie tshirt about did me in. I was laughing so hard that I nearly fell off my stool.

Patience seems to be our prayer need at this time. Couldn't wait, we started our week one homework together.

I chose to share question 2. With everyone since I am going at this solo and I thought maybe us solos could pray for each other on what we need prayer for…
I don’t want to go through the feeling of needing to start over with God. I want to stop thinking that I’ve screwed up today so I’ve got to start over tomorrow. I need to just repent and move on and get it through my thick head that God loves me and forgives me. I don’t have to “re-present” myself to Him every day.
I don’t know if this will make sense to anyone else but I REALLY struggle with this…I know it sounds stupid but I just can’t seem to get out of this cycle…it’s kind of like self-condemnation..I am hoping that through this summer bible study this is a cycle I will be able to break… FOR GOOD!!!

Since we are sisters who live next door to each other, we met during nap time in my kitchen. The verse that jumped out to us is Psalm 19:7 "The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul.." This is our verse of meditation for the summer. All of our souls need restoring....especially since all we can hear right now is Camp Rock songs! Here's to having 10 kids between us!

Watched the video - it made me smile! I'm really ready to dig into this study, because I've allowed Satan to whisper a couple of the same lies to me over and over and OVER again for the last several years. That would be my "prayer text" - I want to have the strength and wisdom to recognize the lies and shut my mind to them!

If I were a dog....Golden-Doodle! (You know - half golden, half poodle.) I'm loyal and love family like a golden, but I can be a little fussy sometimes like a poodle. :)

Love that translation of Psalm 19! I think I will take several verses at a time for my next few memory verses.

Thank you Beth for continuing to encourage us in the study and love of God's Word!

1. I guess I am most like my darling dachshund, Millie. She has short legs and she is kind of round. Both of us are in our early fiftys if I have calculated here age in dog years correctly. Millie wears a collar that is in "red hot chilli pepper" print because it describes her personality perfectly. I guess if I wore a collar, mine would be the same.

2. I am in a pit. I need your prayers.

3. "God's Word warns us of danger
and directs us to hidden treasure.
Otherwise how will we find our way?" For me, abiding in God's word is crucial to staying connected to Him. I have done some really dumb things and some of those could have been prevented if I had been a student of God's word. Hind sight is 20/20 it is also humiliating!

We met today at lunch time, at work, Tulsa, OK. There were nine of us in a conference room, and one from Texas on a conference call. Julie, Natasha, Ashlee, Miranda, Kalein, Judy, Kathy, Gwen, and Monica and on the phone was Marybeth. We had fun describing ourselves as dogs, we had a Mutt, golden retriever, beagle, and a black lab to name a few. I should have written them down...cute reasons too! When we wrote our prayer, we went around the room reading them out loud, and oh the tears...and compassion that showed in our group! It sure makes you feel not so alone to know everyone struggles in some way! And that we could be there for each other. We decided to email the list to all of us so we could pray for each other thru our journey together. Ps 19 we took turns reading. And honed in on the benefits of knowing God's word! I also put up your memory verse #4..Mal 3:16...you could see the revelation sinking in...How awesome is that!! God surely had his hand in pulling us all together, from a conversation with my daughter about how women think. I knew I was to do this study right away, then the Lord strongly urged me to see if the girls I work with would like to join me...I was hoping for one other, God has brought 10, and 2 more may join too!! He is an Awesome God! Thank you Beth!!

Hi Beth,
We had an amazing day today, I have to tell you a little about how this Bible Study is a God thing...A few weeks ago my dear friend, Mary Jo who has Lou Gherigs Disease, was heavy on my mind, and as I was on this blog and read about this Bible Study, there I was thinking about her again, so I thought maybe I am suppose to ask her if she would like to do this with me...she is only able to communicate with her eyes and her special computer that she taps with her knee...she was so very thrilled and has had a hunger to have felowship with other women so she helped me get together a small group of ladies. Along with Mary Jo and myself it will be 3 others and the nurses that will be taking care of her on the tuesdays we meet for this study, we have never done a study through a blog or online before so we were all a little nervous but when we did the "Please pray for me, I..." exercise it was amazing what came out from our hearts, I was expecting little things like "I'm having a bad hair day please pray for me" but it was so much deeper, we have some heavy hearts, and God knows it and I believe the girls in our group did not happen by accident!!!! PRAISE HIM FOR HIS NUDGINGS... and thank you Beth, for being our facilitator and that we can have good times, good laughs, and good cries with you... I also wanted to tell you that Mary Jo and her nurses are planning on being at your living proof conference at Fargo ND in Aug. She is a good and faithful servant of our Lord and loves Him with her whole life and her faith is an inspiration and witness to all who know her. Have a blessed two weeks til we meet again!

Our group met today -- there were 4 of us: Jeanette, Denise, Christine and Andrea. We are hoping 3 or 4 more women will be joining us. We enjoyed the video (Beth, what kind of dog do you see yourself as?) and the questions were a great way to learn a little about each other. We enjoyed listening to each other explain why we felt like we were each type of dog breed. Writing out our own prayer requests was a great way to "get real" before each other. We were amazed at how Psalm 19 spoke so directly to our individual needs. Christine had put out fresh strawberries and strawberry tarts for us, and we loved the part of Psalm 19 where it says that God's word is better than red, ripe strawberries. Our workbooks arrived just this afternoon, so we are anxious to get them to the other women and dig in to this!

Three of us who will be in a "Me, Myself, and Lies" study together this fall are viewing this independently because of especially busy summers. We'll be getting together, though, for debriefing and sharing of ideas before the summer ends. I'm so thankful that God's "life-maps" show the way to joy -- that's a lot better than our trusty GPS can do!!

Please pray for me and my marriage of 36 years… struggling with loneliness, depression, and anger.

I love that God’s Word pulls our lives together; that His signposts are clear and point out the right path… if only we will follow. He has shown me the way but I haven’t always followed which may explain my current struggles.

Tonight in our first meeting my mother, Nell and I, knew everyone. We had a combination of her friends and our friends from church that we did the Esther study with just recently. In discussion of Psalm 19 we agreed that God's Word is whole and accurate in giving us direction. It is a comfort to know where we can always find the ultimate truth and through the power of the Holy Spirit we can find hidden treasure each time we look to The Word. What was also remarkable for our group was that though not everyone knew each other well we all had a common bond already - the love for our Savior, Jesus Christ - and that allowed us all to open up and share with each other. We are so excited about the study and how God will reveal Himself to us in the next 6 weeks!

The mother/daughter bible study has met! We even had another mother/daughter duo join us. Now there are six. We had great discussion on Psalm 19 and everyone, including the daughters, shared how the Word has ministered to us at different times in our lives. The girls were very receptive and are excited about getting started on the study. So are the moms. By the way, we had a moon pie in honor of you all! :)

I just met with my dog :) She thinks she is human, so we must look alike. And she really seems to listen when I read the Word aloud to her! I need prayer to stick to my homework during this summer when I'd like to go out and play in the sun. Psalm 19, wow, that says it better than I could. I love His Word is better than a diamond. Single at 37, I need to know that HE is all I need.

It has been two months since our group, "The Peeps" have run together. Tonight we put aside everything that has kept us from running as a group and came together to share in this Bible study.
Because we all know each other pretty well, we decided what dog each of us would be. This was a light-hearted moment and we all had a good laugh. The mood intensified when we each shared our specific prayer text. Funny how we thought we knew each other until we voiced our prayers out loud. This was the moving moment of the evening.
Our last comment would be that we LOVE the Message transalation of Psalm 19.

9 of our 10-person group met tonight to kick off this study. We are a group asking for prayer regarding raising our kids, changing jobs, becoming moms, maintaining discipline and focus without being anxious, and praying for God's provision in our lives. We are busy women!!! We loved the scripture and the words the Message uses. Oh, and we are split b/t animal lovers who are jack russels, lab bulldog mixes, and mutts and non-animal lovers who are dalmations, mutts and the like!

Being in two different states due to vacations, our first meeting was a little different than the rest will be. We each read Psalm 19 separately and looked at the reminder that we need to be in the word. All the wisdom that God can speak to us through his word baffles us.

From Montgomery, Peggy, Karen & Leigh made it to our kick-off session. Nicole and Anita will join us for our 7/7 meeting. Our other potentials will be reminded and hopefully make it.

We were touched by the People Magazine Conviction. Been there, done that ourselves in recent years! The Message was new to two of us. We enjoyed seeing the translation's wording for God's word. We are excited about getting started on our homework. See you on the 7th!

Five of the nine ladies in our group doing the Summer Bible Study met tonight. We laughed at the dog personalities each of us chose and determined there were NO “bite dogs” in the group (-: We shared our “texted” prayer requests and read Psalm 19. After discussing the benefits of studying God’s Word in Psalm 19 we realized that all our prayer requests are ANSWERED in His Word!

Deirdre/Me (39 years old)

Ginny: King Charles Spaniel cause she is happy all the time

Hubby: Scottie Dog because he is intensely loyal

Deirdre: Border Collie, because I herd and organize everything in sight.

Pray for
Ginny: to grow up to love Jesus, despite our inevitable mistakes.

Hubby: concerned about finances, especially long term

Deirdre: over weight, tired, and very frustrated about my parents getting older and developing problems.

We are a print the directions and do exhaustive research BEFORE you go on the road trip type family, so the whole "signposts, life-map, directions" section really resonated for us. Especially if you stay in the word, the sign posts will pop up. God is good that way.

I am going solo and I am also participating in a Facebook-wide group that was created for us by one of the siestas. ROTFLOL about the dog breed question.I asked my best friend and he said I remind her of a Border Collie cause I'm intelligent and have plenty of energy but not in an overwhelmingly-hyper way. My prayer request is that I've become extremely critical and bitter lately. And this was my favorite part of Psalm 19:

"The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life-maps of God are right,
showing the way to joy. The directions of God are plain
and easy on the eyes. God'sreputation is twenty-four-carat gold, with a lifetime guarantee. The decisions of God are accurate down to the nth degree. God's Word is better than a diamond."

I'm so happy that I get to do this study with y'all. :) And Beth, I LOVED the Moon Pie shirt, and all the props on set. Too funny! I almost wanted to go get coffee or tea.

Six of us got together tonight for our first meeting. We all shared how much we need to be in God's Word this summer--for encouragement, peace and instruction in the abundant life. We had to re-read Ps 19 in the good old NIV. Kristen shared her desire that the "meditation of her heart" be pleasing in God's sight that she might be kept from "willful sins." She connected the idea that right thoughts would lead to right actions and attitudes in her family life. How appropriate to this study--as we clean out our thought closets, we pray that our thoughts, words and actions would bring glory to Jesus.
We are so excited about studying together and with y'all! Love and prayers!

Thank you! This is just what we need to to dig a little deeper this summer! We are so excited to see what God has for us in this study. Never read The Message before, very different and still awesome. It is so good to be reminded that when we stay in God's Word we make it! No matter the trial we make it! God Rocks!
Our group was small and intimate. Katie and Connie. We are hoping to have a couple more but if not that's ok too! The Dog ID was hilarious and we were a Pointer(always getting distracted by something better out there) and a Bassett Hound(hoping to do a lot of "relaxing" this summer).
Over all we are very excited and just might do day 1 tonight!

I am the hostess for the group. I've been doing the memory verses on the 1st & 15th. I convinced my friends to start an index card spiral and begin with the Psalm 19:14 verse in our 1st week of homework. Then each week we will add the next week's verse. Everyone agreed it would be great to start to fill our thoughts with the sword of the Spirit. We will say our verses with a partner on the last night of study.

Marla and Rachel met today in Richmond, VA. We're moms who met at Mothers of Prescholers and are thrilled to be growing closer to each other and to God through this study. We love having something to keep us in the Word during the hectic summer months, and we both remarked on how the Bible truly is a living word. We are both amazed at how God reveals new lessons, comforts, and blessings from the same passages in different ways depending on where we are in life. Our God is awesome!

The Wagnolia Siestas have 6 members now, not just the five we signed up. We've added Pam, one of our good friends.
We're a PitBull, Great Dane, St. Bernard, Golden Retriever mix. (the absent one was probably our Jack Russell)
It was a blessing to share our prayer requests and get personal and sincere with each other.
Psalm 19 led us into a lively discussion. We love how God's Word is perfect and perfecting, pulling our lives together -- revealing, insightful, rewarding. We love how His Word is a map that leads us to joy, nourishes us and give us insight to life. Each day is a new beginnging, truly a gift from God. Every single day.
We have been encouraged and inspired to spend more time in this glorious Word.

Tonight, 8 of us gathered for our first session of Me, Myself, and Lies. We are a mixed group between the ages of late 20s to mid 40s (with the exception of my 15-year old daughter who joined us tonight). Most of us go to the same church and are in a Sunday School class together. We have one member who found us through your blog! Praise God, we are excited to gain a new friend. We all had fun comparing ourselves to a breed of dog and most of us chose the breed of dog we have or had. I guessed that's why we have them! We had a good discussion of Psalm 19 and are looking forward to studying God's word this summer and gaining new testimonies of how His Word has enhanced our life experience. We have another 3-5 people joining us for the next session, so we will upload our picture then:

We look forward to getting to know one another better, while drawing closer to LORD.

We aren't crazy about The Message so had to re-read in Holman, but learned much about how God's Word impacts us.
Loved the Moon Pies. I had to read the "Taste Buds of a 10 Year Old" post to my Pomeranian friend. My Dad suffers from Moon Pie addictions as well. (Check Cracker Barrel and Super Wal Mart). SO excited for this study!!!

Definite description of me and confirmation that my request was the right one. Looking forward to the study. Jackie

Our group has 9 women from all different backgrounds. It is so neat for me, because I just posted about the study on my blog and all of these women from my life just came together to form our group, and one even brought a friend!

We all had a great time eating, laughing, and sharing together.
The dog part was hilarious, of course, but my favorite part was sharing the prayer requests. I feel like it really brought us together as a group of believers to share our concerns with others who will pray to the Lord along with us. We even wrote down each other's information on notecards (with clips) to take home with us so that we can pray for each other specifically throughout the study.

The funniest thing was explaining The Message Bible to one of our members. Rachelle just said, "think of it this way, you can call it the dirty Bible because it's all in that contemporary language." I LOVE IT! We has a hoot reading from that dirty Bible - and I loved the strawberry part!

Our group had a little difficulty getting started on deciding our "dog breed" personality! But once we got started, it was hilarious. We even have a pit bull in our group! The prayer requests were precious and they seemed to overlap with one another since we're all about the same age. (40 somethings) Psalm 19 was right on target and threaded through our prayer requests. God is so good and we KNOW He brought our group together for His own special purposes.

We enjoyed the introduction video and are excited for day one tomorrow morning.

ONE QUESTION- does anyone know if Jennifer uses C-L-O-S-E-T as an anagram??? We don't have the videos and on page 6 in the discussion questions we were to differentiate between them. If you know- please post. Thanks.

A shih-tzu, beagle, and collie reside in Marshville, NC. We had to take a 10-year old's dog book, "Dog Book for Kids", to figure out what breed we are and it took us half the time to figure it out. In fact, one of us is out on vacation so another is trying to figure out who she is. We are 4 moms of 12 children locked up in a kitchen. We are all in our 30s. It was awesome to see how this scripture is living out in our lives. Before we read it, we talked about how the stresses of adoption, building a farm, and building a new home were consuming our prayer requests. The scripture gave us peace about our decisions. Can't wait to dive in the study. BTW we picked a Havanese for our out-of-town mom.

We enjoyed all of the assignments and are looking forward to the next weeks together. After reading Psalm 19 from The Message one of the ladies said, "Now read it from the Bible." 8-) We laughed and read it from NIV. We decided that verse 7 was what spoke to us the most:"The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul." We want our souls to be revived this summer!!!!

Beth,
We had such a great time here in Leander! We started out eating the BEST fajitas and celebrating my 30th birthday! What a wonderful way to celebrate my day: in the Word with His daughters!

I am so proud of my girls for sharing their prayers with the group; some of them just met each other tonight! We needed prayers for strength in raising children, help finding God's path, and one of our girls needed help finding a church home. A couple of the ladies jumped on that and immediately invited her and her family to church with them on Sunday morning. I think she was very encouraged! Praise God!

We also had some good discussion about how the Word of God touches our lives. A few of us are waiting and trusting in the LORD and shared how that is renewing our strength and we are not growing weary. (Isa. 40:31)

We had a wonderful night and can hardly wait the two weeks!

Some of our prayer needs were health- physical and mental, financial, family relational issues, staying in the word daily, exercising, anxiety, worry, attacks of the enemey. The text messaging was a great fun way to do it.

Psalm 19 is amazing! A great reminder of all God has done, is doing and can do in our lives through His word. Two shared how through God's word changing lives He has saved marriages.

We also loved the message translation that He can "keep us from stupid sins"! Amen!

Also about how "God's judgements are true; they are all together righteous" or as Beth would say "God is not messed up!"

Woo Hoo! Let's get this thing started!

- Please pray for me...I know I need a huge change in my life, but do not kow what that is right now. I'm job searching and hoping for a move.

How beautiful to read the Psalm today. It has been too long since I have really soaked up the Word, and it was beautiful to think of the many things the Word can do.

All in our 30's and between us have 14 kids! Can we say we're starved for adult conversation and getting into the word together??!Coming to you from little ol' Sulphur Springs, TX (that's in East Texas :))

Mom group from Granbury, TX...

We met tonight and had dinner, cake, and some great discussion. We don't all know each other well so we loved the discussion time. Discussing Psalm 19 and the benefits of studying God's word was sweet for all of us. Such an encouragement to hear specifically how others have been blessed by diving into the Holy word.

Thank you for taking the time to facilitate this, Beth. I truly appreciate it!

We are a small group of four, ages 26-29. All are married with two of us newer mommies (15 & 16 month olds). We have all known each other for years and it is always a laugh fest when we get together!! We haven't all 4 been together in quite some time, so needless to say, it was a little scatter brained! We enjoyed the "dog" similarities conversation (much laughter!!), and especially the prayer request segment. We decided that we liked the NIV version of Psalm 19 a little better after comparison, although I do own a copy of The Message as well. We are looking forward to digging in to the study and having a better focus next meeting! It was just so good to fellowship together again! Thank you for the fun introduction, can't wait to see what is next!!

We really enjoyed our first meeting. Staying in the Word just resonated with each of us. I was sort of the link between the other two ladies who just met today. We added a time to tell our conversion story. Each was so different...I just love the way God does something different each time! Prayer requests were real and personal. We are all looking forward to getting into the study. Thanks for doing this. I plan to try and hook up a small speaker. It was noisier than I expected in the coffee shop, but it had free WiFi.
Ps. 19 in The Message was just great! Thanks.

Our group had a great start tonight. There are six ladies in our 20s & 30s -- Lisa, Robyn, Jennifer, Kate, Stephanie & Alexis -- in our Conroe/Montgomery TX group. We laughed over what dogs we felt like we resembled, shared insights into Psalm 19 and how God has personally used scripture in our lives to encourage us, then ended by celebrating Lisa's birthday by eating brownies and ice-cream. Bible Study and dessert can it get any better than that?!

left my comments about the session on the other post, but it was a good start. there's more homework than i originally anticipated, but i challenged my gals to invest in themselves and allow God to minister to them (us) through this.

one gal is struggling with body image issues, one with self-esteem, one with self-perception in God's eyes, one with finding balance between self-focus and family's needs, and another with maintaining a positive attitude in the midst of life's circumstances. we ALL need our thought closets made over, and God timed this study just for us, it seems!

1) I am most like my Cairn Terrier, Skipper. I belive it is because I am stubborn and snippy. I asked my husband and he said "you are like a Cairn Terrier because you are independant".
2) Please pray for me, I...am bitter and have control issues prohibiting growth. Trying to find place in this world and how to serve God more, me less.
3) God's word helps us find our way and keeps us from stupid sins. I have several examples of how God's word has specifially helped me in these areas. In short, I have survived my parents' divorce, my brother's death (he was 24 and I was 18), a personal divorce (due to spouse's repeated unfaithfulness), and just recently a long (2 year) struggle with an unsaved, difficult co-worker who tore our workplace apart with lying, backstabbing, and manipulation. Without God's word, I know that I would have lost my way a long time ago and probably would have given in to the lie that suicide is the answer. It's not and I haven't. Praise the Lord!

The Monroe, Louisiana, group just finished meeting. It was great! Our 9 ladies, from 20s to 50s, didn't all know each other but really opened up! The dog ice breaker was fun. We even included my dog in the pic of our group we will be uploading. To distinguish, our group will be the one that meets at Frenchmans Bend. The common thread was that everyone has some real needs and we want to turn to God for the answers! We used the answers from the "texting" activity as prayer requests we could pray for each other during the study! We met at the leader, Tina's house and had supper before watching Beth and doing the activities.

My mom and I are starting this Bible study together. I cannot wait to see how God is going to bless our relationship through this teaching! Psalm 19 spoke clearly to both of us... His word is so sustainable, pure, perfect, and sweeter than honey. I feel so blessed to wake up each day with new mercies lavished upon me!

Doing this solo. The meeting consisted of me in my pajamas at 11 pm with my dog by my side! As for breeds, I haven't a clue, but my beagle/bassett loves to eat and sleep more than anything and that pretty much sums me up.

Please pray for me. I have an unreasonable amount of fear in my life.

I love Psalm 19. I couldn't help but read it thinking, why haven't I made more time for studying scripture? I sure make time for a lot of other meaningless things.

We just had a great meeting!

Some of us thought that perhaps we were more like cats than dogs. We're independent and more likely to retreat to a safe place to watch the action. We have one pretty Yorkie and a Golden Retriever who can be a Doberman if the need arises.

Most of us have been together for previous Bible studies so there is already some trust. Everyone really shared what was on their heart and why they need this study right now. I was inspired to be with women who desire to follow God and who recognize the necessity and value of community with other believers.

We started out with our own "What's in your closet?" mixer. Contents of closets varied from dirty laundry to a bullet proof vest and shotgun. Then we watched a couple of clips of Jennifer Rothschild to introduce the group to her. One of the ladies who deals with a disability was encouraged by Jennifer's story. After viewing Beth we enjoyed sharing and ended with prayer and refreshments. We are all really looking forward to our time together in the Word. Thanks for "facilitating" us.

The Closet MakeOvers from Poteau OK met this morning and had a lively group discussion. Five ladies joined our hostess though one had to leave early for a family emergency. We all felt that a thought makeover was something we need in our lives. The discussion on dogs was especially appropriate as the hostess had 4 dogs in the home. One dog nearly knocked over the camera and tripod when taking our group picture. Thanks for choosing to do this during the summer. Roberta

Diane, Vanessa, Pat, Renee, and Vicky (the Bremen Summertime Siestas) met tonight at Vanessa's for supper and then Bible study. We are so excited to begin this study and enjoyed the conversation and support for each other the most.
1. Diane - Mixed Corgi - protective, affectionate, companion; Vanessa - first said the Beverly Hillbillies Blue Tick Hound (retired from teaching and loving the reading she gets to do) but then decided on a black labrador - loyal, loving, and loves the water; Pat - chihuahua - always doing something; Renee - Basset Hound - always running at other's commands; Vicky - beagle - energetic - affectionate - good companion.
2. It was amazing to see that even though our requests were different that ran along the same themes.
3. By this time, we had been together 2 1/2 hours!!! We read several translations and didn't realize "The Message" translation was on the blog! We got into a discussion about how it seems that society today is "anything goes" with no standards and Psalm 19 should be our mantra.

We could have stayed all night just basking in each other's support. Ages 40-58. Three grandmothers, one mother of three young children, and one mother, friend, blessing.

Thanks Beth

I am one of those working dogs-- I am really friendly and loveable, but those characteristics are off-limits when I'm on duty! Please pray for me because I'm exhausted (obviously)! The phrase that caught my attention was that God's direction is "plain and easy on the eyes." As a long-time believer and faithful student of the Word, lately it feels like the pursuit is too hard-- or that I'm making it harder than it should be. And that wears me out too-- the idea that I have to keep working harder, digging deeper, when maybe it's right there in front of me? I'm solo, so I'm sharing with the universe... Thanks.

Let me just say that I am convinced that this is going to be a wonderful study because Satan has certainly tried to thwart it every way he can. As our Ladies Ministry team got together tonight to do the first study, Lisa, after a tutorial from our pastor regarding hooking the laptop up to our projector system, could not get the system to work no matter what she did. So after about a half hour we ditched that idea and just placed the laptop in the middle of the room and watched the video.

This was the first time that the whole ministry team has been together for a long time. It was great! We had breeds of dogs that included chinese crested, labradors, beagles, st. bernards and jack russells. What a mixture, right? But that's just like God! The time sharing our prayer requests was wonderful as well as it gave us a chance to catch up on each other and struggles we are all having. I brought them all home and will send them out to our team so we can remember each other's requests/needs. Psalm 19 from The Message was an interesting version that took some of us to our good old NIV version. Can't wait to get started in the study and see what God is going to do in our lives!

We spent so much time describing what kind of dogs we were, we almost didn't get to the scripture. How profound of you to know that the dog question would bring out every fear, insecurity and passion we have in our lives. We are two passionate, messed up but God fearing, loving women. And we are soooo excited to see what He is going to reveal to us in the next few weeks.

Keep us from stupid sins and help us let YOU do Your work in us. And keep us from taking over Your work Lord, cuz we haven't done so good in this department. We want to let go of those things that keep us from trusting You and start fresh each morning!

I got so caught up in reading everyone's posts! My heart was touched deeply and I'll be praying for everyone. I'm doing the study alone physically but feel spiritually connected thanks to this website! My dog type? A Great Dane: loyal, playful, patient with kids, needing my own little space, needing obedience training (!) and must be kept on a leash! Please pray for me, I am an almost empty-nester with a 19-yr-old still home and a husband who travels. I feel that this is a new season in my life and know I'll need God's direction. Psalm 19 has so much about the revelation in God's Word - I especially was touched by the verse that said His maps show us the way to joy. Love to everyone <><

Our small group is made up of college age women. The meeting went well. Our most experienced texters took the texting idea to a whole new level, trying to see who could use the least amount of characters and still get the prayer request across.

Something different that I did was at the end I played the track called "Listen" off of FFH's cd, "Voice from home". It talks about listening to God as He tells you your true identity.

Lastly, this is a cool story along the lines of the benefits of God's Word: One of my girls mentioned later on after the meeting that God had given her a memory verse prior to a tragic event she experienced. She said she did not fully understand why He gave her the verse until after the tragedy happened a month later. She realized that God gave her that verse ahead of time to prepare her for the grief she would experience(it was Psalm 57:1). Praise God for His Word!

When I heard about the summer study I emailed several friends and family hoping I could get a few to come. There are 16 of us and we had a ball eating chicken enchiladas, watching Beth and Jennifer and looking at Psalm 19! The dog assignment was great too. We all left more conscious of how we talk to ourselves and can't wait to learn more of God's truth.

Many of us quote Psalm 19:14 as a specific need in our lives.
Thank you for encouraging me to work on the self talk area (thought area) of my life and confidant enough to facilitate this study in my home.

As four recent Baylor grads, we started the study tonight here in Dallas. Some of us are looking for jobs, and some of us are going to grad school--or both! Needless to say, our prayers were asking for guidance for our futures and patience with many things, especially with our siblings since we are all back at home momentarily. We all are realizing the importance of being in God's Word, and we're praying

We got quite a laugh out of God's word being better than strawberries, and Katie said that it was even better than pineapples. :-)

We're looking forward to this Summer study!

we texted our prayer requests to each other so that we would have them to look at during the week, and we decided to meet every week and also do jennifer's videos. we are both struggling so much with this topic and decided to get all we could out of this opportunity! it is amazing, though, how different our struggles are and how completely differently we react to the negative things we say to ourselves.

thank you for this opportunity. terry and i are forging a brand new friendship, and we are both so thankful that this study has brought us together as friends centered on God's word.

Seeing Mama Beth in Moon Pie shirt, and Moon Pies displayed on sofa, we two siestas traveling North to Alaska knew for sure we were in the anointing! We had just pulled in to Moon Mountain RV, Grants Pass, Ore, and hooked up on Wi-Fi to begin our Summer Study. Ps. 19 said what we had observed all day, imagine seeing 14,000ft. plus Mount Shasta all gleaming in white glory! To realize His Word is more valuable than diamonds hit home, since I lost my diamond earring last night down our RV commode, my husband refused to sift through in order to find the earring. Ps. 19 gave me the insight I needed, God's Word is far more precious! We two siestas had a lesson in patience trying to listen to Beth on Wi-Fi, her beautiful face freezing mid-sentence. His Word pulls our life together, everyday speaks something new. Just to think we are united with our Siestas all across country and around the world is thrilling for us and makes our journey to Alaska all the more exciting, as we put God's Word first and foremost.

Our group, formed specifically for this study, met in Laramie WY Tuesday night. After getting to know each other a bit with the ice breaker and "Pray for me, I..." exercises, we also told each other a little bit about ourselves. I knew all but one of the gals that came, but not everyone else knew each other.

We had 14ish gals meeting, ranging from early 20's to 50+, and various relationships with Christ as well, ranging from recently finding Christ to knowing Him as long as you can remember.

We discussed Psalm 19, we watched the video on the big screen TV thanks to my technological husband, and were able to discuss in relative quiet due to wonderful husbands watching all babies and kids older than 6 months old!

Can't wait to distribute the books (They're due to arrive tomorrow) and work on the homework--and to stay accountable. Until July,

There are five of us in our group, and we're all family! My mom, two sisters, a cousin and myself - how blessed are we? (Ages 24-52)

We loved the Message translation of Psalm 19 and had a great discussion around that. We are so looking forward to this study! Our prayer requests are pretty heavy: two who desperate for babies (one having trouble getting pregnant and the other just lost her baby in her 18th week of pregnancy, one would love a man and another dealing with raising two children(ages 3 and 1) while being very lonely due to church issues and lots of hurt there. But we are trusting in God's word to be all He says in Psalm 19!

We are a group of four in our late 20s to early 30s (down by one tonight, but also praying for one more to join us!). The three of us that were here this evening enjoyed dinner (take n bake pizza – high on fellowship, low of stress, right!), great fellowship, and dessert, too!

We are cat people but did bring up being Chihuahua-ish, a whole lot of Mutt and all agreed to be very similar to herding dogs - very protective of our flock and herding them from here to there!

Loved the text messages. We all relate to mommy guilt and (lack of) patience issues. We used our texts as a way to close in prayer and I am typing them up to email to everyone so we can continue to pray for one another until we meet again.

In addition to the benefits of the Word of God outlined in “The Message” we also loved a benefit listed in the NIV translation – “revives our soul”. We spoke of other benefits not listed in the Psalm such as a reminder of God’s love and power. We all loved and could relate to “Keep me from stupid sins, from thinking I can take over your work”.

Hugs from Bellingham, WA!

We have a group of 21 ladies in Pampa, Texas that are doing the study together. We had a variety of "dogs" tonight... St. Bernard, Pit Bull, German Shepherd, Chihuahua to name a few... but my favorite was the analogy of the Bird Dog: focused only on what she is trained to focus on and ignoring all the other distractions, not chasing after the things that she isn't supposed to but only following the directions of her Master! WOW! I loved that one! I'm only paraphrasing as she put it so much better! We've decided to try to add Jennifer's videos as well (we'll watch them while we eat our meal).

We are soo excited about this study and so thankful that this is what you chose!

We are the only ones that can clean out our thought-closets (through His grace). If someone else cleans our closet for us, we won't learn & we won't grow & we WON'T experience the change that He is wanting for us.

Our group meeting last night was awesome! Psalm 19 was such a wake-up call for some of us and a reminder of God's promise to us. It was interesting to compare The Message translation to our bibles in NIV and KJV. Some phrases in The Message really stood out to us, such as "whole and pulls our lives together" and "twenty-four-carat gold with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE!"

We were reminded while reading Psalm 19 that we must stay and live in the Word of God to be guaranteed our hidden treasures, earthly and heavenly. God will always show us the right direction and steer us from our dangers.

Can't wait to dive into the first two weeks of our workbook! See you in 2 weeks!

Us 2 missionary mommies in eastern Congo, Kim and Suzanne, met for 2 blessed kid-free hours of fellowship. Ps. 19 was interesting. We were thrown a bit off-track about the leaping bridegroom, but we recovered. We opened our thought-closets wide, and yuck! It turned into a sweet time of confession and real look at our emotional soundtracks and finished with prayer over our 'stupid sins' using our little text messages. (and the world map put us out in the atlantic ocean! what is that?)

We met at Tammie's home and enjoyed dishes brought by everyone for our evening meal. We then watched Beth's video and did the interactive questions. We each read Psalm 19 from a different translation and marveled at the word pictures it created. Brenda mentioned the following quote and we felt it was worth sharing with the group:

A poem used in Adrian Rogers sermon.

“Who is it knocks so loud?”

Just a lonely little sin.

“Slip through”, I answered

And soon all hell was in.

Our group met last night and it was so enjoyable having a variety of ages and background of ladies discussing Psalm 19 and our dog breeds. Definitely a good ice breaker since there were a couple faces that we didn't know too well. Let's see we ended up with a lab, golden retriever, shitzu, peek-a-poo, mini Din (short for something else) and a couple mutts. We really gleaned from Psalm 19 and shared some times when God's Word was more valuable than diamonds, strawberries or watermelon in the summertime. We saved our prayers until end and had a very special prayer time. Our group is SO excited to be doing this study together and with you. I think it is going to be very valuable. There are a couple in our group and this is their first Bible study ever. Can't wait to get started!

Hi ya'll
Our group started out as 7 but 2 decided to not participate in the end because they were leaving today on a 2 week mission trip to Mexico. Prayers for them. Another was sick and the other had to work so it wound up just 3 of us but we had a wonderful time eating all that food that was prepared for 7. I am going to love this study. Never thought (no pun intended) much about how our self talk affects who we are. I have set up a google group for us to connect with each other during the week to discuss. So we will be meeting a lot!
Thank you Beth for being willing to facilitate. A nice bonus to the study I must say.
God Bless, Dianne, Brenda, Mitzi

Well, our seven are scattered this week, but we've got discussion going on a Facebook thread and in pairs! Psalm 19 struck us in a variety of ways - one was drawn to "God is whole and pulls our lives together" and how that related to the past couple of years of deconstruction and reconstruction in her life. A couple of us were drawn to "The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road." As someone with zero sense of direction, this speaks to me! We also appear to be a group of mostly mutts (and one cat lover!)!
On a side note, I'm preparing to teach junior high girls Bible study at a camp this summer, and God has already used THIS study to help me prepare! It feels like God is redeeming my time by multiplying the meaning and application of His Word - does that make sense? I've just felt His pleasure as I've studied and it's a sweet thing - sweeter than honey AND strawberries!

I read Psalm 19 in the Message, NASB, NIV, KJV, and NLT.
What jumped out to me was 'the joy' referred to in verse 8. (NASB and KJV translate as 'rejoicing'.)

That is my prayer; to have joy and rejoicing in my heart.
It says right there as plain as day that God's word is joy to the heart...I love the scripture and live and breath it, but yet I don't have joy. I choose to believe the lie that I am incapable of it.

I am so looking forward to this study!

We discussed Psalms 19 after reading it from "The Message". It was interesting to think of God's glory in the skies while we were having a storm outside. Lightning is deadly but really lit up the skies and showed us the power of God. We also discussed Matthew 12:34 and realized whatever we put into our heart is what is going to flow from our mouth. Some of us agree that we have to be particular about the things we allow ourselves to read or watch. On a side note we can't get together without eating so we had a delicious Strawberry Salad and pizza rolls. Then for dessert we ate homemade "EASY" apple dumplings and strawberry cake. It was yummy. We had food for our souls and our stomachs last night. Can't wait for the next one...Love in Christ, Tonya Lawson from Plant City, FL

Our group met last night at my new home. My old friends met my new friends..how cool!! Our ages are from mid 30"s - mid 70's. We loved Psalm 19...so much in that passage for each of us. We're all facing different challenges and yet this passage binds us together. Looking forward to the next six weeks.

doing this alone. I asked my kids what kind of dog I would be and they both said a lap dog (because I am loving) and a pug/poodle because I want things my way and I can turn on them ( I have no idea what that means). Please pray that this summer I can grow as a mom with both of my girls (15 and 10). I am so happy about doing this study.

Any sister's in Tampa, Fl need a study buddy?

Nikki & I had a great meeting last night. It was good to get to know each other and talk about Scripture and how it's influenced our lives. How great is the unity in the Body of Christ that two strangers can meet up and still connect and encourage one another's hearts. Thanks!

We have a small online group made up of a Golden Retreiver, a Doxie, and an Akita! We range in age from late 20's to mid-30's and are in different stages of our lives, but we do have one thing in common that knits us together: a love for God! Our prayer requests included: Knowing & following God's will in our lives; having the strength, courage and obedience to do it. Having a body, mind and spirit that is right before God, a clean heart. Also, selling a house. We gleaned some profound truths from Psalm 19. I'm so grateful we're going on this journey together!

What a fun start for us!! The four of us are coworkers and lunch buddies, but we're so excited about getting to know each other even more intimately!!

We determined by collaboration that our team consists of a poodle, pit bull, shih tzu, and a "mature" lab. It should be a great summer!!

We dove right in to the Word and had a great time discussing. We are looking forward to our next Tuesday night meeting!!

Hoping and praying that God blesses all of our socks off this summer!!

Our group of 6 ladies (in the 40s range) met last night - 5 of us know each other, but haven't seem much of each other and one is a friend of one. We had a hard time with the dog exercise, but I think most of us have some yippy chihuahua in us. We had some incredible transparency sharing our text prayer requests and will email them to each other so we can be praying specifically. We are all needing to be in the Word so badly - we are anticipating great things this summer.

Great time yesterday. Dog breeds were funny. One was a lab, one a golden retriever, and one a mut dog at the description of her mother (apparently the dog is loved by little kids and takes nothing off no one- aka - the daughter:)). The Message version was tough for a couple of the members- prefer the KJV. Good discussion and ready for the homework!

We had a great "kick-off" night last night. We ended up having a great group of ladies who had much more in common than we had ever known. We went around and answered all the questions (even had a couple dog lovers to help out the others!). Prayer requests were shared and we not only read and meditated over, but also encouraged each other through the reading of Psalm 19. We took our picture (not without a few self-timer mishaps =), shared snacks and laughs, and had a great time in true fellowship. (And that is hard to find). We are looking forward to a great study!

How I love the transforming power of God's word! "God's Word vaults across the skies from sunrise to sunset, Melting ice, scorching deserts, warming hearts to faith."

Please pray for me to inch closer to God's desires for me and for His Word to light a fire in my heart. Also, pray for me to find more pleasure in daily life. I am most like a working-dog...whatever breed that would be!? :)

Thank you, Beth and Jennifer, and to all of you who are sharing your experiences and wisdom through this study.

1. unsure

2. Always seem to return to a mindset of wanting to live in past successes "forever" instead of enjoying the present!

3.Psalm 19 Testimony: Feeling the pressure of society to sometimes measure a person's "worth" on professional success, material wealth, looks, health, relationships with family/friends, etc-never feeling that I "measured" up in any/all areas and getting "caught up" in all of it- trying to change that mindset & growing each day (baby steps) in learning God and His Word is enough!

My group of four met last night at my house. I am so glad that we agree to participate in this summer bible study, I can already tell that this is going to be a great six weeks. Our church does participate in your bible studies in the fall and spring but in a large group. I think having the small format is going to allow us to be really open and free to speak what's on our hearts. We had a great first week with lots our interaction.

Going solo...

My dog breed: golden retriever. people person and loyal.

My txt: Plz pray 4 me. I deeply need God 2 b my defender and refuge n a season of struggle b/c the enemy attacks. God is my rock!

My insight from Scripture: Thank God His Word is WHOLE -- not lacking anything and easy as pie to understand (though not always to follow). He loves us so deeply He hand-carved the roadsigns straight to Him. Praise His name!

I have three daughters. The oldest, Andrea, is 25. The youngest, Hannah, just turned 4 this month. Last night our ladies group met at Andrea's house. We live out in the "boonies" and she and her husband live right next door. Hannah saw everyone arriving and came over. I explained to her that we were having a ladies Bible Study and I sent her back home. A few minutes later the back door opened again. It was Hannah. She proudly held up a copy of The Boxcar Children and announced, "I have my Bible!". We had five ladies (not counting Hannah who had to go home again)and we enjoyed the time together so much. We are looking forward to an awesome summer in God's Word. Ruth, Andrea, Frances, Candy, and Mamie in Pawnee, TX.

That psalm says it all and as I'm learning to replace my thoughts with God's truth, I find that the difference is truly amazing. His truths are awesome and overwhelming. Please pray that I learn to fully trust Him and His truths. What a Glorious God we serve.
